minimum of four hours a month to the
program may participate as a mentor
• mentors may sign on to offer very
specific expertise to any narrow
segment of the community
• mentors must agree to abide by a
standard code of conduct as
representatives of the STC

are encouraged to participate as
protégés within the program
• Students enrolled in technical
communication programs or studying

• Like our mentors, protégés must agree
to abide by a standard code of conduct

7. • the STC Toronto Chapter will support a
mentor program committee to develop
and administer the mentor program
• The program committee will track the
effectiveness of the program and make
improvements as needed
• The program committee will oversee
the program and recruit volunteers and
mentors into the program
• The committee will deliver training and
networking opportunities to equip our
mentors with the tools and knowledge
to better deliver their services
• The program coordinators will do their
best to match the needs of the protégés
with the abilities of the mentors

– contacted by one of our program
coordinators
– Sent a package by email that
explains the program and includes
a protégé profile questionnaire and
standard code of conduct form
• You send back the profile questionnaire
• Coordinator matches you with a mentor
• First meeting at monthly STC breakfast
for icebreaker
– Set date and time for first mentor
session

WHEN I SIGN
UP FOR THE
PROGRAM?
11. • One-on-one meeting in a quiet public
place such as a coffee shop, food court
or library
• 60-90 minutes in length
• Usually once per month as agreed upon
by the mentor and protégé
• Mentor may assign tasks or homework
as needed to help the protégé
• Mentor pairings can run up to one year
and will end when the chapter
concludes the program year at the AGM
