- As the slide says, different generations had a pretty simple approach to retirement…Save for retirement, take that savings and invest conservatively using CDs and Bonds, but for the most part, count on Social Security and their Pension to meet their retirement income goals.Thanks to their pension, they had a check in their mailbox every month.
- However, pensions are not as prevalent as they once were. The pension has been replaced by the 401k.So what does that mean? With a 401k you get one check. And it’s up to you to make that one check last a lifetime.

- First lets discuss Longevity.Everyone knows that people are living longer, healthier lives. But lets take a closer look at some data to back up that statement.At age 65, men have a 52% chance they’ll live until 85 and a 13% chance they’ll live until 95; women have a 59% chance they’ll live until 85 and a 20% chance they’ll live until 95.A healthy couple of ages 65 has a 50% chance of at least one spouse living beyond 92 and a 25% chance one will live beyond 97. That means there’s a strong possibility the retirement income for you and your spouse will need to last 25 years or more!
