LEADING YOUR BUSINESS STRATEGICALLY
               10 Stops Toward Success
As a business leader, your main
responsibility is shaping your organization
to achieve its vision. To accomplish this
task, you need to sharpen your
organization’s skills at designing and
executing superior strategies. Here is a
simple 10-step roadmap to follow. Be sure
you do not forget to make any of the
following stops along the road to your
destination.
Stop 1
Build superior knowledge about the
markets you are competing in
(size, growth, structure, players, relation
ships, needs, issues, trends, etc.)
Stop 2
Inspire a clear and shared vision of the
business future that creates valuable
difference for the customer and
uniqueness of your organization.
Translate this vision into clear
strategies.
Stop 3
Define a small set of non negotiable
core values to support your positioning
and vision.
Stop 4
Catalyze commitment to the
vision, values and strategies through
clear, and consistent communication to
everyone in the organization.
Stop 5
Create a strong team of self-disciplined
individuals, foster collaboration, and
align them all together behind the
vision. Put the people at the center of
your plans, not a the periphery.
Stop 6
Organize human, material,
technological and financial resources
toward the effective and efficient
strategy execution. Adopt a lean
structure with clear lines of authority /
responsibility. Define clear strategy
execution plans.
Stop 7
Establish clear standards of excellence
aligned with the vision and extend them
at every level in the organization.
Stop 8
Follow your profitability per product,
service, market, division, distribution
channel, and/or brand. Communicate at
all levels the importance of high profits
for the organization's longevity and
growth. Make the difficult strategic
decisions required.
Stop 9
Follow tightly the details; make sure the
strategy execution job is well done.
Never be complacent about
quality, time, and efficiency. Celebrate
progress and anchor it into the
organizational fabric.
Stop 10
Adjust your strategy roadmap to
changing conditions while always
keeping in mind your targeted
destination, your vision.
