RAINN: Rape Abuse and Incest
             National Network

              By: Rocio de la Parra
ABOUT US
RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the
nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization and was
named one of "America's 100 Best Charities" by Worth
magazine. We created and operate the National Sexual
Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE and online.rainn.org) in
partnership with more than 1,100 local rape crisis centers
across the country and operates the DoD Safe Helpline for
                 the Department of Defense.
OUR MISSION
To prevent and educate individuals and their communities to stop sexual abuse
                                  before it happens.

Our prevention and education efforts include working with the entertainment
industry, the media, colleges and local communities to help raise awareness about
                          issues related to sexual assault.
We also carry out programs to prevent sexual violence, help victims and ensure that
                           rapists are brought to justice.
 The entertainment industry has regularly supported us, stars like Christina Ricci, Tori Amos,

Mariska Hargitay, Jennifer Aniston and Kevin Smith to television networks such as NBC, FOX and

Lifetime, entertainment provides a great way to reach people with important messages about

                                               sexual assault.

 Our speaker’s bureau is Comprised of sexual assault survivors, friends and family members from

communities all over the country, members frequently share their personal stories with local

community groups and hometown media. Hearing about sexual assault from people who have

experienced it is a vital element of public education.


 -Our hotline has helped more than 1.5 million
people affected by sexual violence since 1994.
 -We raise awareness about issues related to
sexual violence reaching over 120 million people
  each year
 -Working with the media on a daily basis allows
us to provide expert commentary and accurate

                                                     Output
  statistics and messages about crime
 -We work extensively with entertainment
industries and television networks to reach
people with important messages about this
  issue.
 -RAINN day educates over 1 million students on
over 1000 campuses about sexual violence
  prevention and recovery.
 -We are credited for contributing in the
astonishing 50% decline in sexual violence.
HOW WE HELP OUR COMMUNITES

We help communities by preventing sexual violence, helping
victims, and bringing justice to the rapists. There is a 24
hour hotline for the victims, whether they feel more
comfortable seeking help online or over the phone is up to
them. We want to help our victims heel internally and bring
peace to their hearts and safety to their homes.
Critical reading is a huge part of our
foundation, a tremendous amount of victims
approach our foundation through our online
hotline. Because of this we have to dedicate
           ourselves to:

CRTICAL *to read reflectively, separate our ideas from
           the victims
           *to understand someone else’s thoughts
READING *to engage in a skilled dialogue with the text
           and decipher its meaning
*to find a thought, locate a key emotion
*to evaluate, analyze, and understand each
           concept
           *to persevere through difficulties
 To be an active participant in
  shaping one’s community; as
  college students we are more
likely than any other age group
  to be sexually assaulted, let’s
  spread the word!
Join RAINN day; annual
  campaign to raise awareness
                                     CRITICAL
  and educate students against
  sexual violence on college
  campuses. Each year, RAINN Day
  reaches over 1 million students!
                                      ACTION
To become a responsible and
  committed learner
Just Just think teaches young
          people to lead healthy,
        responsible, independent

Think lives in a culture highly
            impacted by media.
JUST THINK AND RAINN
  BOTH ARE ENGAGED IN HELPING
YOUNG TEENS. EDUCATING THEM TO
BECOME ADEPT INDIVIDUALS. WHAT
   BETTER WAY OF PROPAGATING
  SEXUAL VIOLENCE PREVENTION
 THAN USING THE MEDIA? THESE
   TWO FOUNDATIONS CAN WORK
      TOGETHER AND MAKE A
     TREMENDOUS IMPACT ON
COMMUNITES AND WORK TOGETHER
         IN UNIFORMITY.
Personal Connection
Males and females are equal, we are both in charge of
our bodies and what we decide to do with them. Some
people dissipate and see women as objects, because of
that feel they can take advantage and make women
feel subordinate. I want there to be equal treatment
amongst genders and feel very strongly about women
being able to walk down the street and not be afraid.
Thank you for your time!!!
