Nikon external flash
1. Nikon External Flash?
Question by Emily: Nikon External Flash?
I have a Nikon d60 & am looking into a dedicated Nikon flash. I don’t want to spend over $
200. I’m a student but I do A LOT of shooting on my own that would be greatly improved
with a flash. I use the SB800 at school but that’s a little out of my price range. I heard the
SB24′s good but will that work in program??

Look for a good used SB600 or even SB400. Look on pages 150-153 of your user manual

How to set up an external flash on
Nikon D3100?
Question by Patrick S: How to set up an external flash on Nikon D3100?
I have a d3100 and found an external flash at my friends house. Its a Bower SFDS. I
mounted it right to the hot shoe but I can’t seem to figure it out. I know the flash is on but
theres no test button. I just need to figure out how to actually make it work with my D3100.

don’t use the flash unless it was specifically made for Nikon DSLR cameras
the reason is that each flash has its own trigger voltage, meaning, to trip the flash, an x
amount of electricity from the camera has to come. If it is too high it can basically fry your
DSLR

I don’t see a hot shoe for a flash on the pictures of your camera, so you have nowhere to
put an external flash.
The only thing you CAN do is to use your built in flash as trigger to an external optical slave
flash.
