2. Photosynthesis
• Photosynthesis – is the process that plants cell use to
change the energy from sunlight into chemical
energy
• Takes place in plant cells that have chloroplast.
• Chloroplast contain chlorophyll, green pigment the
traps energy.
3. Steps
• The plant takes in carbon dioxide from the air
and water from soil
• Chlorophyll captures energy from sunlight
which is used to change carbon dioxide and
water into new products.
• The plant releases most of the oxygen into the
air
6H2O + 6CO2 + Light Energy = C6H1206 + 6O2
4. Cellular Respiration
• Cells use oxygen to release energy stored in
sugars such as glucose.
• Takes place in mitochondria.
• Both in animal and plant cells
5. Steps
• Starts with glucose and oxygen
• Glucose in cytoplasm is broken down into smaller
molecules. Releases small amount of energy. They
move into the mitochondria. Also oxygen enters the
cell and into the mitochondria. Smaller molecules are
broken down even further, hydrogen is released in a
way that allows cells to capture energy hydrogen
combines with oxygen to make water.
