John was shot with a 38 revolver four times in the
back by Mark David Chapman at 10:50pm
Monday 8 December 1980 in his apartment
building in Manhattan,New York.He had just
returned from Record Plant/Studios with his
wife and John was pronounced dead on arrival at
St.Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center.The doctor
said that nobody could have lived for more than
about 10 minutes with such injuries.

Crematory in Hartsdale, NY. He did not have a
funeral service; instead, Yoko Ono asked that
everyone who wished to do something in his honor
spend ten minutes in silent remembrance of him the
following Sunday (December 14, 1980) at 2pm
EST.
