Assistive Technology Expo – 19 October 2011
What is Assistive Technology? “Assistive technology enables people to communicate,
receive instruction, learn, play, move about, achieve and be independent”
(Blackstone, 1990). It’s technology used by individuals with disabilities
to perform functions that might otherwise be difficult or impossible.
Assistive technology can include pencil grips, mobility devices
(walkers/wheelchairs), hardware, and software. Basically any device
(homemade, purchased or modified) that is used to help an individual
perform daily tasks of living.

Fort Rucker is hosting an Assistive Technology Expo on 19 October from 1000 – 1400
at the Soldier Service Center (Bldg. 5700). Representatives from the Wiregrass
Rehabilitation Center and Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind will be present.
