Spiritual Nuggets: Our Words
1. Our Words
When Solomon became a king, he asked for special wisdom from God. He was granted
that, and he turned out to be good with words. In his poetic way he says in Proverbs
25:11:
“Timely advice is as lovely as golden apples in a silver basket”
Words can start a war or lead to peace.
Words can create problems or solve them.
Words can stir up bad feelings or calm the situation.
Words can lead to hatred or love.
Words can cause people to feel bad or good
Our words are very important in our society, in our homes, in our daily lives and when
we meet people. Our words can have an unseen power that passes on our thoughts
and attitude.
In Matthew 12:34 (last part) Jesus says:
“For whatever is in your heart determines what you say”.
At a time where the pressure is

encouragement can make a big
change in someone’s life.
Words of encouragements can
give courage, comfort and
delight to our fellow human

In James 3:5 the apostle gives
us a vivid picture of why we
need to be careful how we use
our tongue:
“The tongue is a small
thing, but what

a great forest on fire”.
Our words can cause a big
disaster, like a fire that has
come out of control. That is why
2. it is so important to fill our hearts with what is good, with positive values and to take the
advice and guidance that is given to us through the Bible.
There are so many people around us that have a very low self-esteem. They feel that
they cannot measure up, that everyone else is so much better. God, who created us,
equipped us, saved us and who loves us says that we are valuable in His eyes. We
should help those who think that they are not worth much to see that. We are all so
valuable to God! Let us use our tongue to say words that help give restitution to those
who are weighed down.
