The document outlines three initial ideas for music videos:
1) A video for "Hardest of Hearts" by Florence and the Machine showing a man and woman walking together at a distance that changes with the lyrics.
2) A video for "Go on" by Jonsi showing two groups documenting a trip with handheld cameras that juxtapose their perspectives and show a relationship developing between a boy and girl.
3) A video for "Spanish Sahara" by Foals depicting a relationship from beginning to end through still images, showing the couple meeting, arguing more over time, breaking up, and eventually reconciling.
2. Initial idea 1
Hardest of Hearts – Florence and the Machine
Narrative/ abstract
The video shows a man walking in front of a woman following him as the camera
follows both of them at each side of the frame walking in the same direction. The
woman lip-syncs the song as she follows him. The distance between the two people
changes in relation to the lyrics of the song. Another shot is also used of the man in
the centre left of the frame and the woman can be seen behind him and at the end of
the video the man approaches another woman and the first woman stops walking and
the camera dolly's away from her as it finishes.
3. Initial Idea 2
Go on – Jonsi
Narrative/abstract
The video is shot with two handheld cameras and shows two groups of people
documenting a trip out with their friends. One group has a boy holding the camera
while the other has a girl holding the camera. The boys camera has the word “Boy” in
blue on the corner while the girls has the word “girl” in pink in the corner. The two
videos are juxta-positioned together so the events all happen at the same time. The
two groups meet on a train as the boy and girl holding the camera see each other
down the carriage and film each other. The video then shows them all meeting up and
the relationship between these two people growing closer and closer as they go round
a new city on their trip, at this point only one camera perspective is shown with the
phrase “boy meets girl” in the corner of shot. At the end of the video the boy has to
stay and the girl has to leave on the train. The perspective then shifts back to two
cameras with the phrase “sad boy” or “sad girl” in the corner of shot
4. Initial Idea 3
Spanish Sahara – Foals
Narrative
The video shows a relationship from start to finish through a collection of still images.
The two people meet at a party and then get to know each other but they then start
to argue more and more and eventually break up. Each persons reaction to the break
up is shown. The guys is to meet up with lots of other women while the girl gets upset
and talks to her friends. Eventually they start to meet each other as friends again and
start to make up again.
