3. WHAT IS M2M?
M2M refers end to end data communications between
two or more machines with NO HUMAN intervention.
The capability to communicate with both wireless of
wired devices of same ability.
Most often, M2M systems are task-specific.

4. MACHINE TO MACHINE
•Device could be a water meter,
electricity meter etc. monitored
by means of sensors or a device
instructed to actuate.
•Key words: Sensors and
actuators
Machine
To
•Network which facilitate end to
end connectivity between
machine composed of radio,
access network,
gateway,corenetwork,backend
server.
•Key Words: hardware,protocols,
end to end delay and reliability.
•Device (computer) which
extracts processes and gathered
information automatically
control and instructs other
machines.
•Key words: middleware
software, application

5. SMART FRIDGE TO MANAGE FOOD INVENTORY
M2M could be your fridge contacting the grocer asking for fresh
oranges that you just ran out of.
5
6. ELECTRIC VEHICLES EXCHANGE
It is your car exchanging maps and traffic information with other
cars to choose the best road in order to drive you to work or to
school.
6
7. PUBLIC COFFEE MACHINE
Service
provider
It is the public coffee machine contacting automatically service
provider because it will be out of milk or water after X operations!

15. M2M MARKET PROJECTIONS
“There is expected to be phenomenal growth in M2M over the next 10
years. Almost 50 billion Internet-connected devices by 2020”
Harish Viswanathan
Alcatel-Lucent, New Jersey, USA
By 2020 there will be
around 2.4 billion road
vehicles (including cars,
motorcycles and
commercial vehicles) in
the world with
approximately 1.8
billion M2M
connections between
them.

35. M2M SMART GRID ADDED VALUES
Permitting Smart Grid Monitoring and control.
Providing Reliability, Efficiency, Security , and Instant feedback.
Smart metering :Automatic collection of consumption, diagnostic,
and state information data from water- or energy-metering
devices.
Data communicated to a central database for billing,
troubleshooting, analysis, and load management.
Demand response: Adjust and distribute dynamic price
information for peak-load minimization.
35
44. M2M FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES
Charging control, billing information, exchange of
Data traffic or maps and usage of the EV as a
grid storage device V2G.
