PRESIDENTIAL
ELECTIONS
The United States presidential election of 2016 will be
the 58th quadrennial U.S. presidential election. The
current electoral vote distribution was determined by the
2010 census. Presidential electors who will elect the
President and Vice President of the United States will be
chosen; a simple majority (270) of the 538 electoral votes
are required to win the election. The incumbent president,
Democrat Barack Obama, is ineligible to be elected to a
third term due to term limits established by the Twenty-
second Amendment to the United States Constitution.
There are numerous potential candidates in the
Republican Party, Democratic Party, and among third
parties. Assuming Barack Obama serves out his full term,
the winner of this election will become the 45th President
of the United States.

the first Cuban American or Latino to hold the office of US
Senator from Texas. Cruz is a member of the Republican Party.
He served as Solicitor General of Texas from 2003 to May
2008, after being appointed by Texas Attorney General Greg
Abbott. Between 1999 and 2003, Cruz served as the director of
the Office of Policy Planning at the Federal Trade
Commission, an Associate Deputy Attorney General at the
United States Department of Justice, and as Domestic Policy
Advisor to U.S. President George W. Bush on the 2000 Bush-
Cheney campaign. Cruz was also an Adjunct Professor of Law
at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, where he
taught U.S. Supreme Court litigation, from 2004 to 2009.
M V S SAI HEMANT 14
TED CRUZ PROFILE
Cruz was the Republican nominee for the Senate seat vacated
by fellow Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison.
On July 31, 2012, he defeated Lieutenant Governor David
Dewhurst in the Republican primary runoff, 57–43. Cruz
defeated the Democrat, former state Representative Paul
Sadler, in the general election held on November 6, 2012; he
prevailed with 56–41 over Sadler.
Cruz openly identifies with the Tea Party movement, and has
been endorsed by the Republican Liberty Caucus.
On November 14, 2012, Cruz was appointed vice-chairman of
the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the committee
that seeks to elect more Republicans to the Senate.
M V S SAI HEMANT 15

of Florida and Democrat Bob Menendez of New Jersey.

MARCO RUBIO PROFILE
Marco Antonio Rubio (born May 28, 1971) is the junior
United States Senator from Florida, serving since January
2011. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served
as Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives (2007–
2009).
A Cuban American native of Miami, Florida, Rubio is a
graduate of the University of Florida and the University of
Miami Law School. In the late 1990s, he served as a City
Commissioner for West Miami and was elected to the Florida
House of Representatives in 2000, representing the 111th
House district. He was elected Speaker in November 2006.
M V S SAI HEMANT 18
MARCO RUBIO PROFILE
Rubio announced a run for U.S. Senate in May 2009 after
incumbent Republican Mel Martinez resigned. Initially trailing
by double-digits against the incumbent Republican Governor
Charlie Crist, Rubio eventually surpassed him in polling for
the Republican nomination. Rubio won the Republican
nomination after Crist opted instead to run with no party
affiliation. In a three-way split against Crist and Democratic
candidate Kendrick Meek, Rubio won the general election in
November 2010 with 48.9 percent of the vote. He is one of
three Latinos in the Senate.
In June 2012 it was reported that the Republican Presidential
candidate of that year, Mitt Romney, was vetting Rubio as a
possible running mate, but Romney ultimately selected Paul
Ryan.

Lady Barbara Bush, and is the younger brother of former
President George W. Bush. Jeb Bush is the only Republican to
serve two full four-year terms as Governor of Florida.
Bush grew up in Houston, Texas. He attended the University
of Texas, where he earned a degree in Latin American affairs.
Following his father’s successful run for Vice President in
1980, he moved to Florida. In 1986, Bush was named Florida’s
Secretary of Commerce, a position he held until resigning in
1988 to help his father’s successful campaign for the
Presidency.
M V S SAI HEMANT 23
JEB BUSH PROFILE
In 1994, Bush made his first run for office, narrowly losing the
election for governor by less than two percentage points to the
incumbent Lawton Chiles. Bush ran again in 1998 and beat
Lieutenant Governor Buddy MacKay with 55 percent of the
vote. He ran for reelection in 2002, and won with 56 percent,
to become Florida’s first two-term Republican Governor.
During his eight years as governor, Bush was credited with
initiating improvements in the environment, as well as
reforming the education system. He was also responsible for
ending the Florida high speed rail initiative.

47%.
In the 2014 Ohio Gubernatorial Elections, Kasich defeated Cuyahoga

HILLARY CLINTON
PROFILE
Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton (born October 26, 1947) is a former
United States Secretary of State, U.S. Senator, and First Lady of the
United States. From 2009 to 2013, she was the 67th Secretary of State,
serving under President Barack Obama. She previously represented New
York in the U.S. Senate (2001 to 2009). Before that, as the wife of
President Bill Clinton, she was First Lady from 1993 to 2001. In the
2008 election, Clinton was a leading candidate for the Democratic
presidential nomination.
In 1994, as First Lady of the United States, her major initiative, the
Clinton health care plan, failed to gain approval from the U.S. Congress.
However, in 1997 and 1999, Clinton played a leading role in advocating
the creation of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, the
Adoption and Safe Families Act, and the Foster Care Independence Act.
Her years as First Lady drew a polarized response from the American
public.
M V S SAI HEMANT 33
HILLARY CLINTON
PROFILE
The only First Lady to have been subpoenaed, she testified before a
federal grand jury in 1996 regarding the Whitewater controversy, but
was never charged with wrongdoing in this or several other
investigations during the Clinton presidency. Her marriage endured the
Lewinsky scandal in 1998.
After moving to the state, Clinton was elected the first female Senator
from New York; she is the only First Lady ever to have run for public
office. Following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, she supported
military action in Afghanistan and the Iraq War Resolution, but
subsequently objected to the George W. Bush administration’s conduct
of the war in Iraq and continued to oppose most of its domestic policies.
Clinton was reelected to the Senate in 2006. Running in the 2008
Democratic presidential primaries, Hillary Clinton won far more
primaries and delegates than any other female candidate in American
history, but narrowly lost the nomination to Senator Barack Obama, who
went on to win the national election.
M V S SAI HEMANT 34
HILLARY CLINTON
PROFILE
Obama nominated Clinton to be Secretary of State and she was
confirmed by the Senate in January 2009. She was at the
forefront of the U.S. response to the Arab Spring, including
advocating for the U.S. military intervention in Libya. As
Secretary of State, she took responsibility for security lapses
related to the 2012 Benghazi attack, which resulted in the
deaths of American consulate personnel, but defended her
personal actions in regard to the matter. Clinton visited more
countries than any other Secretary of State. She viewed “smart
power” as the strategy for asserting U.S. leadership and values,
by combining military power with diplomacy and American
capabilities in economics, technology, and other areas. She
encouraged empowerment of women everywhere and used
social media to communicate the U.S. message abroad.

States Senator from Vermont. Before serving in the Senate, he
represented Vermont’s at-large congressional district in the United
States House of Representatives and served as mayor of Burlington,
the largest city in Vermont. Sanders is a self-described democratic
socialist, and has praised Scandinavian-style social
democracy.Sanders runs for office as an independent but caucuses
with the Democratic Party and is counted as a Democrat for purposes
of committee assignments. He was the only independent member of
the House during most of his service and is the longest-serving
independent in U.S. Congressional history.
In an interview with The Nation on March 6, 2014, Sanders stated
that he is “prepared to run for President of the United States” in

DONALD TRUMP
If Donald Trump were to win in November, he would be
the first man to take the White House without having
previously held public office or served at a high level in
the military. Because his election would be without
precedent, it's difficult to predict what a Trump
administration would look like.
Mr Trump has generated political shockwaves with his at-
times bellicose campaign style and controversial
proposals on US border security and a temporary halt on
the entry of all Muslims into the US, but he's started
offering a more measured, conciliatory tone.
M V S SAI HEMANT 40
TOP PRIORITIES OF DONALD
TRUMP ADMINISTRATION
1.Halting illegal immigration.
2.Improving border security.
3.Policing trade with China.
M V S SAI HEMANT 41
TED CRUZ
Republican Party veterans are concerned about a Trump
administration because he's a political unknown. They are
worried about a Cruz administration, on the other hand,
because they think they know exactly what he is - a true-
believer who places ideology over party fealty. He would
easily be the most conservative president elected in the
modern era.
Mr Cruz has made countless enemies with his fellow
Republican politicians, who are unlikely to get plum
spots in his administration. Instead, he could look to the
activist base and right-wing think tanks to fill out his
executive team.
M V S SAI HEMANT 42
TED CRUZ
Unlike Mr Trump, Mr Cruz hasn't floated many names of
possible high-ranking administration officials. He's mentioned
Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, a former federal prosecutor, as
homeland security secretary and said he'd be interested in
offering Mr Rubio, a presidential rival, a cabinet position.
He may have fewer top cabinet spots to fill, however, as he's
pledged to do away with the departments of energy, commerce,
education, and housing and urban development. He's also said
he wants to abolish the Internal Revenue Service by switching
to a flat income tax.
Before their falling out, Mr Cruz also suggested Mr Trump
could help him with trade negotiations and be put in charge of
constructing a wall on the US-Mexican border
M V S SAI HEMANT 43
TOP PRIORITIES OF TED
CRUZ ADMINISTRATION
1.Instituting a 10% flat tax.
2."tearing up"Iran nucleardeal.
3.rolling back Obama administration's
healthcare reform.
M V S SAI HEMANT 44
MARCO RUBIO
Mr Rubio has talked about how he presents a "generational
choice" for voters seeking a new style of politics and fresh
ideas. A Rubio White House, however, would likely be
populated by many familiar faces from previous Republican
governments. After six years as a US senator, Mr Rubio has
strong ties to the party establishment.
Mr Rubio's campaign staff is full of veterans of Mitt Romney's
2012 presidential campaign and others in the Republican Party
hierarchy. Many of his advisers, particularly on foreign policy,
are old Republican hands like author Robert Kagan and
throwbacks to the George W Bush administration, including
Elliott Abrams and Stephen Hadley.
M V S SAI HEMANT 45
MARCO RUBIO
In a November 2015 interview he told the Wall Street
Journal's Gerard Baker that he would use his "political
capital" as a newly-elected president to "give our nation a
clear foreign policy with moral clarity" and do
"everything possible to ensure that America fulfils its
potential in a 21st Century economy". He went on to
mention a laundry list of actions, including reforms to the
tax structure, energy policy, government regulations,
entitlements and healthcare.

HILLARY CLINTON
Hillary Clinton served in the most recent Democratic
administration and was first lady in the one before that.
More than any other candidate in the field, from either
party, the former secretary of state is a known entity.
Mrs Clinton said during her campaign kick-off speech in
June that her administration would be defined by "four
fights" - to make the economy work for "everyday
Americans", to ensure US security, to strengthen US
communities and to end political "dysfunction".
M V S SAI HEMANT 48
HILLARY CLINTON
At the most recent Democratic debate, Mrs Clinton
detailed her top three goals for her first 100 days as
president.
She mentioned job-creation and infrastructure
programmes, raising the minimum wage and
"guaranteeing finally equal pay for women's work". She
also said that she would expand Mr Obama's healthcare
reform, including lowering the costs of prescription
drugs.
M V S SAI HEMANT 49
TOP PRIORITIES OF HILLARY
CLINTON ADMINISTRATION
1. Criminal justice reform.
2. College affordability.
3. Comprehensive immigration reform.
M V S SAI HEMANT 50
BERNIE SANDERS
Bernie Sanders has been clear about the kind of people he
doesn't want in his White House.
"My cabinet would not be dominated by representatives of
Wall Street," he said during a television interview last July.
"There are a lot of great public servants out there, great
economists who for years have been standing up for the middle
class and the working families of this country."
Past Democratic and Republican presidents have frequently
turned to New York financial market insiders as economic
advisers, including Jack Lew for Mr Obama, Henry Paulson
for Mr Bush and Robert Rubin for Mr Clinton.
M V S SAI HEMANT 51
BERNIE SANDERS
his first 100 days as president would look like, Mr
Sanders said he would push to enact universal healthcare,
raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour and increase
investment in infrastructure.
"What my first days are about is bringing America
together to end the decline of the middle class, to tell the
wealthiest people in this country that, yes, they are going
to start paying taxes and that we are going to have a
government that works for all of us and not just big
campaign contributors."

  • 19. MARCO RUBIO PROFILE Rubio announced a run for U.S. Senate in May 2009 after incumbent Republican Mel Martinez resigned. Initially trailing by double-digits against the incumbent Republican Governor Charlie Crist, Rubio eventually surpassed him in polling for the Republican nomination. • 23. JEB BUSH PROFILE John Ellis “Jeb” Bush (born February 11, 1953) served as the 43rd Governor of Florida from 1999 to 2007. He is the second son of former President George H. W. Following his father’s successful run for Vice President in 1980, he moved to Florida. In 1986, Bush was named Florida’s Secretary of Commerce, a position he held until resigning in 1988 to help his father’s successful campaign for the Presidency. M V S SAI HEMANT 23
  • 24. JEB BUSH PROFILE In 1994, Bush made his first run for office, narrowly losing the election for governor by less than two percentage points to the incumbent Lawton Chiles. Bush ran again in 1998 and beat Lieutenant Governor Buddy MacKay with 55 percent of the vote. He ran for reelection in 2002, and won with 56 percent, to become Florida’s first two-term Republican Governor. During his eight years as governor, Bush was credited with initiating improvements in the environment, as well as reforming the education system. • 27. DONALD TRUMP PROFILE In 2010, Trump expressed an interest in becoming a candidate for President of the United States in the 2012 election, though in May 2011, he announced he would not run. Trump was a featured speaker at the 2013 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). In 2013, Trump spent over $1 million to research a possible run for President of the United States in 2016. Trump is expected to make a formal announcement on whether he will run for President of the United States on June 16, 2015. M V S SAI HEMANT 27

  • 31. CANDIDATES WHO ARE LIKELY TO BE NEXT PRESIDENT OF USA FROM DEMOCRATIC PARTY 1.HILLARY CLINTON 2.BERNIE SANDERS M V S SAI HEMANT 31
  • 33. HILLARY CLINTON PROFILE Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton (born October 26, 1947) is a former United States Secretary of State, U.S. Senator, and First Lady of the United States. From 2009 to 2013, she was the 67th Secretary of State, serving under President Barack Obama. She previously represented New York in the U.S. Senate (2001 to 2009). Before that, as the wife of President Bill Clinton, she was First Lady from 1993 to 2001. In the 2008 election, Clinton was a leading candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination. In 1994, as First Lady of the United States, her major initiative, the Clinton health care plan, failed to gain approval from the U.S. Congress. However, in 1997 and 1999, Clinton played a leading role in advocating the creation of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, the Adoption and Safe Families Act, and the Foster Care Independence Act. Her years as First Lady drew a polarized response from the American public. M V S SAI HEMANT 33
  • 34. HILLARY CLINTON PROFILE The only First Lady to have been subpoenaed, she testified before a federal grand jury in 1996 regarding the Whitewater controversy, but was never charged with wrongdoing in this or several other investigations during the Clinton presidency. Her marriage endured the Lewinsky scandal in 1998. After moving to the state, Clinton was elected the first female Senator from New York; she is the only First Lady ever to have run for public office. Following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, she supported military action in Afghanistan and the Iraq War Resolution, but subsequently objected to the George W. Bush administration’s conduct of the war in Iraq and continued to oppose most of its domestic policies. Clinton was reelected to the Senate in 2006. Running in the 2008 Democratic presidential primaries, Hillary Clinton won far more primaries and delegates than any other female candidate in American history, but narrowly lost the nomination to Senator Barack Obama, who went on to win the national election. M V S SAI HEMANT 34
  • 35. HILLARY CLINTON PROFILE Obama nominated Clinton to be Secretary of State and she was confirmed by the Senate in January 2009. She was at the forefront of the U.S. response to the Arab Spring, including advocating for the U.S. military intervention in Libya. As Secretary of State, she took responsibility for security lapses related to the 2012 Benghazi attack, which resulted in the deaths of American consulate personnel, but defended her personal actions in regard to the matter. Clinton visited more countries than any other Secretary of State. She viewed “smart power” as the strategy for asserting U.S. leadership and values, by combining military power with diplomacy and American capabilities in economics, technology, and other areas. She encouraged empowerment of women everywhere and used social media to communicate the U.S. message abroad. M V S SAI HEMANT 35

  • 40. DONALD TRUMP If Donald Trump were to win in November, he would be the first man to take the White House without having previously held public office or served at a high level in the military. Because his election would be without precedent, it's difficult to predict what a Trump administration would look like. Mr Trump has generated political shockwaves with his at- times bellicose campaign style and controversial proposals on US border security and a temporary halt on the entry of all Muslims into the US, but he's started offering a more measured, conciliatory tone. M V S SAI HEMANT 40
  • 41. TOP PRIORITIES OF DONALD TRUMP ADMINISTRATION 1.Halting illegal immigration. 2.Improving border security. 3.Policing trade with China. M V S SAI HEMANT 41
  • 42. TED CRUZ Republican Party veterans are concerned about a Trump administration because he's a political unknown. They are worried about a Cruz administration, on the other hand, because they think they know exactly what he is - a true- believer who places ideology over party fealty. He would easily be the most conservative president elected in the modern era. Mr Cruz has made countless enemies with his fellow Republican politicians, who are unlikely to get plum spots in his administration. Instead, he could look to the activist base and right-wing think tanks to fill out his executive team. M V S SAI HEMANT 42
  • 43. TED CRUZ Unlike Mr Trump, Mr Cruz hasn't floated many names of possible high-ranking administration officials. He's mentioned Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, a former federal prosecutor, as homeland security secretary and said he'd be interested in offering Mr Rubio, a presidential rival, a cabinet position. He may have fewer top cabinet spots to fill, however, as he's pledged to do away with the departments of energy, commerce, education, and housing and urban development. He's also said he wants to abolish the Internal Revenue Service by switching to a flat income tax. Before their falling out, Mr Cruz also suggested Mr Trump could help him with trade negotiations and be put in charge of constructing a wall on the US-Mexican border M V S SAI HEMANT 43
  • 44. TOP PRIORITIES OF TED CRUZ ADMINISTRATION 1.Instituting a 10% flat tax. 2."tearing up"Iran nucleardeal. 3.rolling back Obama administration's healthcare reform. M V S SAI HEMANT 44
  • 45. MARCO RUBIO Mr Rubio has talked about how he presents a "generational choice" for voters seeking a new style of politics and fresh ideas. A Rubio White House, however, would likely be populated by many familiar faces from previous Republican governments. After six years as a US senator, Mr Rubio has strong ties to the party establishment. Mr Rubio's campaign staff is full of veterans of Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential campaign and others in the Republican Party hierarchy. Many of his advisers, particularly on foreign policy, are old Republican hands like author Robert Kagan and throwbacks to the George W Bush administration, including Elliott Abrams and Stephen Hadley. M V S SAI HEMANT 45
  • 46. MARCO RUBIO In a November 2015 interview he told the Wall Street Journal's Gerard Baker that he would use his "political capital" as a newly-elected president to "give our nation a clear foreign policy with moral clarity" and do "everything possible to ensure that America fulfils its potential in a 21st Century economy". He went on to mention a laundry list of actions, including reforms to the tax structure, energy policy, government regulations, entitlements and healthcare. M V S SAI HEMANT 46

  • 48. HILLARY CLINTON Hillary Clinton served in the most recent Democratic administration and was first lady in the one before that. More than any other candidate in the field, from either party, the former secretary of state is a known entity. Mrs Clinton said during her campaign kick-off speech in June that her administration would be defined by "four fights" - to make the economy work for "everyday Americans", to ensure US security, to strengthen US communities and to end political "dysfunction". M V S SAI HEMANT 48
  • 49. HILLARY CLINTON At the most recent Democratic debate, Mrs Clinton detailed her top three goals for her first 100 days as president. She mentioned job-creation and infrastructure programmes, raising the minimum wage and "guaranteeing finally equal pay for women's work". She also said that she would expand Mr Obama's healthcare reform, including lowering the costs of prescription drugs. M V S SAI HEMANT 49
  • 50. TOP PRIORITIES OF HILLARY CLINTON ADMINISTRATION 1. Criminal justice reform. 2. College affordability. 3. Comprehensive immigration reform. M V S SAI HEMANT 50
  • 51. BERNIE SANDERS Bernie Sanders has been clear about the kind of people he doesn't want in his White House. "My cabinet would not be dominated by representatives of Wall Street," he said during a television interview last July. "There are a lot of great public servants out there, great economists who for years have been standing up for the middle class and the working families of this country." Past Democratic and Republican presidents have frequently turned to New York financial market insiders as economic advisers, including Jack Lew for Mr Obama, Henry Paulson for Mr Bush and Robert Rubin for Mr Clinton. M V S SAI HEMANT 51
  • 52. BERNIE SANDERS his first 100 days as president would look like, Mr Sanders said he would push to enact universal healthcare, raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour and increase investment in infrastructure. "What my first days are about is bringing America together to end the decline of the middle class, to tell the wealthiest people in this country that, yes, they are going to start paying taxes and that we are going to have a government that works for all of us and not just big campaign contributors." M V S SAI HEMANT 52
  • 53. TOP PRIORITIES OF BERNIE SANDERS ADMINISTRATION 1. Raising taxes on the wealthy, 2. breaking up large financial companies, 3. free college education for all Americans. M V S SAI HEMANT 53
