The XAT exam is a difficult entrance exam for business schools that tests verbal logic, reasoning, and decision making abilities. It will take place on January 5th, 2014. Students must practice a wide variety of questions related to puzzles, sentence correction, logical reasoning, figures of speech, and mathematical and general awareness topics. Thorough preparation is needed by practicing with past papers and mock tests to perform well on the challenging XAT exam.
2. • The Xavier Aptitude Test, XAT, is the competitive
B-school entrance exam conducted by Xavier's
Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur. It
is considered to be one among the difficult
entrance exams in India, and it is considered so
because of complex questions on verbal logic,
progressive negative marking, difficult logical
reasoning questions and an essay on a topic which
is completely unpredictable. XAT will be conducted
on January 5th, 2014.
3. What sets XAT apart from the other B-school
entrance exams is the section on Decision
Making. Students are tested on their ability of
making business decisions. Students of all
streams can write XAT, and those who are not
as strong in Mathematics as in other areas can
focus on scoring in the Essay Writing and
General Awareness sections.
4. XAT is known to be lengthy, difficult and
tricky, with the occasional easy question.
Intense practice is required. Questions
on puzzles, sentence correction, logical
reasoning and inference based questions
should be focused on. Another important
area to focus on are the figures of
speech, as there are questions on
identification
of
the
metaphor,
personification, oxymoron, and other
figures of speech.
5. There is no set theme for the reading
comprehension passages and can even
be movie dialogues. This section is
mainly to test deductive reasoning
capabilities,
and
understanding
of
syllogism
and
connectors.
For the mathematical section, it is good
to have lots of practice, both in terms of
speed and in terms of answering
accurately. It is wise to strengthen
mental ability in this section as some
questions can be tricky and complex.
6. The General Awareness section requires the
same amount of preparation as the Symbiosis
National Aptitude Test for Post Graduation
(SNAP), and candidates should focus on
general knowledge, organizations, business
knowledge national and international, India,
current affairs, sports and personalities that are
in
the
news.
It is important to attempt as many mock tests
and previous papers, not just for XAT, but of
other exams with similar patterns.
7. Five important things to keep in mind while preparing
for XAT 2014:
1. Have a planned approach so that the whole
syllabus is covered and nothing is left out.
2. Keep the syllabus and exam format in mind so
that if any last minute change occurs, you are
