-Self-Protection Tips for Ladies
BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS AT ALL TIMES
This is the best way to remain safe. No matter where you are, be vigilant. Keep your eyes and ears open for people in the area, possible hazards, and available escape routes. That means if you’re walking home alone at night, no mindless chattering on a cell phone, and no listening to an MP3 player. Anyone looking to commit a crime of opportunity will be searching for the easiest target, and headphones are a sure sign that you’re distracted and vulnerable. Your hearing is a valuable tool—don’t shut it down when you need it most.
PROJECT AN AIR OF CONFIDENCE
Criminals seek to target women who look like they won’t fight back.
Walk with purpose; even if you don’t know where you’re going, pretend that you do. If someone appears to be following you, don’t meekly avoid his gaze. Turn around and look him in the eye. Not only does that give you a chance to get a good look at a potential attacker (thus making it easier for you to identify him later), but making eye contact is also an aggressive gesture that suggests you’re not afraid.
KNOW THE REAL RISKS
The majority of rapes occur 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., and 41 percent of rapes take place in the victims’ homes. The survey reveals that assaults and rapes in deserted parking lots or garages are relatively rare (comprising only 2.2 percent of attacks). 73 percent of sexual assaults are actually committed by someone the victim knows, not a stranger, and that women are much more likely to experience violence in or near their home than in a public spot.

TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS
If your gut tells you that a situation is unsafe, get out as soon as
possible. If your gut tells you that a person has bad intentions,
listen. Your intuition is responding to outside stimuli you may
not comprehend or even notice, so even if you don’t
understand why you feel fearful or hesitant, don’t dismiss the
feeling. But remember—your instincts could also tell you that a
person means no harm or is not a threat.
8. Self-Protection Tips for Ladies
DON’T FEEL PRESSURED TO BE NICE
Many opportunists prey on women’s natural inclination to be helpful.
If you’re alone and a stranger asks for directions, the time, or help
looking for his keys/car/contact lenses/puppy, it’s okay to say, “Sorry,”
and keep moving. While not every man who requests assistance is a
potential attacker, many potential attackers do use these tactics to
distract their victims.
NEVER CARRY MORE THAN YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOSE
If you’re the victim of a purse snatching or mugging, don’t risk injury
fighting to save your possessions—let them go. A wallet’s worth of
cash can make you think you have to put up a fight, but your life is
worth more than the contents of your purse. Keep your house keys in
a pocket when you’re walking, so that if a mugger or robber gets your
purse, you’ll still be able to get into your home, and the assailant won’t
have access to it.
9. Success Guidelines for working women
Publicize your work: The priciest diamond has no value while buried in the
earth. Similarly, an executive's achievements are not recognised till they are
communicated to the world. Know that you have to highlight your contributions
and blow your own trumpet.
Find mentors : Seek people who are willing to teach and can compress your
learning time from years to months. From their wealth of experience or
understanding, they help you master better work attitude and skills and
negotiate challenges
Learn to be assertive: Stand up, and speak up as well. Assertiveness is not
just a good skill to have, but an essential tool for a professional.
Go for results: What are the results expected of you? Which targets will get
you promotions, increments and awards? Know them well and chart out a route
to get there. During the performance review, who you are matters less than the
actual results you have delivered
10. Success Guidelines for working women
Invest in your team : Help your team members succeed. A career path is much
like climbing the Mount Everest; you can reach the top only with competent team
members who deliver results
Manage the breaks : Whether it's maternity leave, illness or extraneous
circumstances, you can manage your break keeping your career needs in mind.
Returning from a break, you will only need to convince potential employers that
you are as sharp as ever and an invaluable asset
Be a professional : Professionalism knows no gender. Pull up those socks; the
results and reputation are worth the effort. Show up on time for work, meetings and
events every single time. Treat each deadline like an airline flight and make sure
that you deliver at least an hour before it
Multitasking doesn't work : Stop multitasking and your effectiveness will shoot up
dramatically. Focus on the present moment and immerse in the task at hand. If
unable to complete, reschedule and remove it from your mind.
11. MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR TIME
• Save 4 hours a month. Automate routine expenditure and investment tasks. Link regular bill payments
to your credit card or bank account. Link your bank account to an automatic/recurring deposit scheme.
Automate
Ask service providers to send online bills/statements. These save you the time to record and file.
finances
Work the
commute
• Add up to 10 hours a week. If you commute by car, invest in a driver or join a car pool. Use this time to
answer e-mails, make calls, write notes, catch up with friends or even take a nap. If you travel by public
transport, try juggling your travel schedule to get a less crowded ride and elbow room to use the time
productivity.
• Add 1 hour every day. Invest in a good smartphone, Internet on the go, and learn how the phone works.
Treat your device as a mobile computer that also makes calls. Now, put empty, wasted minutes during
the day to good use—catch up on reading books, answer routine e-mails or research your industry

Reward
the staff
• Save 4 hours a month. Reduce the time spent in travel and at the brick-and-mortar stores. Explore the
world of online ordering for all your shopping needs, including books, electronics, clothing, even
groceries.
• Save 2-6 hours a month. Much time can be saved if you get better service from the people who work for
you—the maid, cook, parking lot attendant, waiter at your regular lunch joint, office secretary, techsupport team, etc. Choose to acknowledge and reward desired service levels.
