2. Accepting Ourselves
Everyone grows up seeing the „perfect‟
person in the media.
Children and adults need to realize that
that person is not real.
The first step to growing up and excelling
is accepting yourself.
3. How you see yourself!
Adolescence is the prime age of judging
ones self.
We often look in the mirror an see
something different from what others see.
If we do not see ourselves in a positive
light, it can greatly effect our emotional
and mental wellbeing.
This state of mind can ultimately lead to
different health risks. (bulimia, anorexia)
4. Changing your mind.
Every time a
negative thought
arises about yourself
write it down, then
proceed to write it in
a positive way.
For every negative
thing you think about
yourself there is
always a positive
counter thought.
5. Overcoming negative
thoughts!
Training in self assertion, don‟t let anyone (even
yourself) say something negative about you.
Beginning to overcome fear, slowly wean yourself
into your fear and eventually you will overcome it
Testing reality, if there is a judgmental person
around don‟t be afraid to be yourself.
Do things that please yourself, take time to relax
each day and get your mind on the right track.
6. Exercise
Exercise is one of the
most positive things
you can do for your
bodies.
Consistent exercise is
extremely good for a
person.
But exercise can also
be self destructive
(people become
obsessed with
exercising)
7. Don‟t focus on the scale!
People concentrate on the number on
the scale too much.
Starvation, people will see a number they
don‟t like and stop eating.
Not eating when hungry is an up and
coming issue, either people eat too much
or too little (ignoring the bodies natural
capacity for food)
9. Continued……
Women are shown as perfect models in
the media.
They are made into these „ideal body
images‟ which cause many girls to strive
for something that is unattainable.
This is what causes shyness, body
distortion, low self esteem, eating
disorders, and anxiety.
10. Celibacy
Today is meant as a term to describe not
having sexual relations with anyone for a
certain period of time.
This in some cases even include that
person.
Celibacy is linked in many cases with
religious beliefs or cultural emphasis.
11. Asexuality
A type of sexual
orientation.
Not having any type
of urge to have any
type of sexual
relations with
anyone.
Same emotional
needs as people, just
with out the sexual
drive.
12. Virginity
A virgin is a term
used in todays
society for someone
who has not had
sexual intercourse.
There is no scientific
way to determine if
someone is a virgin.
Social pressure is put
on young girls to
partake in sexual
intercourse.
13. “Quote”
“In other words, accepting and liking our
own appearance is a healthy state of
mind because it helps us feel content with
ourselves and with our lives.”
This quote is inspirational and should be
shown to every young girl growing up, it is
something to live by.
14. Discussion question?!
Should the media
be able to
advertise and
idealize these
„perfect‟ women
to young
adolescent girls?
