Create Front Cover and Contents for School Magazine
1. Task Brief
• As a class we were asked to create the front
cover and contents page for a new school
magazine, we were told to use a medium long
shot of a student.
• I thought that this would be a fairly easy task
as I knew how to use Photoshop but was
aware that there may be some issues ensuring
I adhered to the correct conventions.
2.
3. Person on the front with
a medium long shot
showing the whole torso
and head.
Small brief headings
and stories to
attract as many
students and
parents as possible.
Some sort of colour
recognition to show a
district feature on each
magazine from every
month or week.
The main eye piece
being the person is in
front of the title
showing that he is
more important and
is meant to be the
main center piece of
the cover
4. This magazine goes
for a slightly different
approach and
chooses more of an
action shot for their
front cover this shows
there keen sports
attitude.
The title is not in front or
behind anything apart
from the background
making it seem less
important than anything
else but still quite clear
bright so people see it.
Contents page is
included I the front cover
which is surprisingly
effective and it is also in
red and getting technical
shows, compassion and
danger. May be showing
the school is very good
and professional.
Logo and motto in
the front cover so
that people
recognize distinct
things that are
related to the
school.
5. What do you want from your school magazine?
• Comedy
• Information
• Revision tips
• Facts about teachers
• School changes like lunches
prices and new teachers
• New clubs and activities
• Fundraisers and events
• Form behavior pints and
attendance

6. I added an image that I
took on my camera
phone. I then cut it with
an eraser tool, I made it
so that it looked like the
grey was the
background to make the
cover seem softer and
cool.
I added very stereo
typical blogger font and
added stereotypical and
unimaginative heading
and stories that parents
and the more studious
students would be
interested in.
I added the priory school
logo to make the whole
thing seem legitimate. I
then added a stamp sort
of ting in the middle to
add some sort of
knowledge of editing and
understanding if
Photoshop, I put exam
and revision techniques
and also added the
students in all seeming
happy and confident.
I made the students
picture and the rest of
the editing not touch
because I thought it
would be interesting to
not be completely
stereotypical of a normal
magazine.
7. I made the backgrounf
the same colour as the
front to make it seem
relatable and
professional. The
simplicity of using the
priory school logo at the
to again seemed like a
no brainer for a school
magazine.
I added the student with
a full shot of the body
and head, I decided this
time that I would add
him over the logo at the
top to make him seem
more important because
a lot of the time you see
this in the front and not
the contents.
Again I added stories and
headings that parents and
studious children
wouldn't’t mind taking a
look at. I made it quote a
short magazine to make it
seem more realistic.
I added the two
companies that priory
work with to make it seem
more important I made
them quite big not only to
fill the page but also to
make them seem more
important, not more
important that the student
but more important that
the logo and badge.
8. What I learnt from this task…
• I knew how to use Photoshop so I learnt…
• Organize time
• Follow conventions
• Difficulty in organizing photo shoots.
• The importance of layers
• Colour used as a indicator of mood and genre.
