The product can range from web designing tools, graphic creativity, sales products, music, law, a song or a new therapeutic tool. Whatever it is, the plain fact is that it has to be marketed.
Word of mouth about the talent someone has and the product someone else has is actually only the beginning of what is really a long production line or a continuing process and it sometimes leads to success and sometimes not. If the creativity is stuck then possibly there is pressure to survive sapping the creative juices or there could be shyness and reticence about self-promotion.
What can alleviate the tension is to collaborate with likeminded people and colleagues so you do not feel isolated and out of touch with your market. This collaboration can often give you the added stimulus needed to keep going when times look too dismal to contemplate.
One of the greatest impediments for the creative flow is the survival tension that accompanies our society, and the pressures of living in a small survival unit like a family, relationship or small group of friends. Whilst these units can be very nourishing, often the nourishment turns sour when the pressure is on to make ends meet or achieve more.
So, for a professional or creative approach to be successful, the survival heat needs to be off for a while. Creativity flows out of abundance and it is critical for the mind to be turned down or slowed down once in awhile. When this is achieved the creative or professional ideas can find an outlet or space for expression.
Creativity and professionalism can be like a roller coaster of excitement or like the eye of the cyclone. It is not a boring avenue and it can be realized; it just needs wings to fly.
Improving the Situation
The situation can be improved immediately by seeing what is needed for fulfilment. Often the ego drives us to do something or pursue some line of work we may not really want to do and at the time it even looks reasonable to us. But ask yourself, “Is this really what I want to do?”
If your professional endeavour is really what you want to do there will be no hesitation to do whatever it takes to continue. You will wash windows, clean toilets, sell real estate or do anything else to give you the freedom to fulfil your passion. It has been found many times by many people that what looked like failure in the beginning was exactly what was needed to spur the person on.
If your enterprise has been under capitalised from the outset you may have to borrow money. This is not a step to be taken lightly or one for the faint hearted. When money has been borrowed it has to be paid back and this can bring its own inconceivable pressures.
When some financial burden is taken on it is important for you to have some physical, mental or emotional discipline to give distance from the intensity generated from being in debt. The emotional and mental toll, which relationships suffer from financial strain, is often too much for the relationship in the long run. It can have devastating effects so be aware. There are numerous ways to improve the situation in your professional or creative life and we will look at the problems and what can be done to rectify them.
Generally a more balanced outlook can immediately improve any situation and especially if that situation lies in the professional or the creative realm. Creative people have for hundreds of years been undervalued and appreciated only at the peak of rock glory, pop fame, or operatic excellence and in recent years, ballet and the arts.
If the creative urge is genuine the desire for fame or recognition will not play any real part in why you are doing the work. This can never be the reason for the creative urge and in fact the creativity itself is enough reward. The rest is persistence and perseverance. As Van Gough said about his work, “it is ninety percent perspiration and ten percent inspiration.”
Refining Skills
You will find that the refining of skills is a lifetime affair and you should never get lazy about creativity always striving for excellence and knowing that there is more.
Often when we get efficient at something and begin to make some good money, there is a tendency to compromise. We think that now we should be rewarded for all our labours and take the easy way out.
It is usually at this point in a business, enterprise or endeavour where things are going smoothly that a faint whisper comes like a breeze. This whisper can be the stirrings of intuition and the call comes to do something entirely different just when we were getting settled.
It is for each person to decide what is to be done. Some will settle for keeping the routine as this way has become efficient, easy and makes money. Others will go for the new and think to try a completely radical approach and one with some risk involved. It is wise to get feedback from friends or colleagues because at this stage you can settle for the old because it is convenient or you can go for the new even if the old is gold.
There is always someone who might be ready to take over from you now that you are ready to try something new. There is no need to sabotage yourself and remember the excitement and growth is in the process not in the achievement of some long forgotten ideal.
