2. Fairy Tale: The Three Little Pigs

3. Objectives:
Students will be able to name three
qualities of a Hero based on the
Three Little Pigs fairy tale.
Students will be able to identify at
least one person who has hero
qualities in their personal life.
4. A hero is anyone who can and does make a
difference in their communities.
A hero chooses to help others.
A hero is open and is willing to listen to other ideas.
A hero is a positive role model for others in the
community.
A hero is someone to look up to and a person in
which you can model their behavior.

The hero themes is usually associated with comic books
Jack Kirby – comic book artist of Captain America, Fantastic
Four and Thor which have a hero theme.

7. Guided Activity:
• After writing some qualities of heroes on the
board, encourage students to reflect on
someone in their life who has these qualities
(can be personal or not personal) but must be
an actual person.
• After reflecting, ask students to write down on
an index card who their hero is and what
qualities they posses and why they are a hero
to them.
8. Project
• In this project, we will use our guided activity hero to create a portrait of
them using bright colors and black thick lines like Jack Kirby’s comic
artwork. After complete with border, hang in hallway to create a hero
“hall”way of fame for supervisors, parents and guardians to view.
10. Extension and Modification
• As and extension to this activity, children can
write a personal letter to their hero thanking
them for the impact they have had on their
life.
• Another extension activity could be using the
children’s personal hero and making a comic
strip about them.
11. Evaluation:
• Informal: Asking questions such as
what qualities heroes have and
having students compare their index
cards with one another so their hero
qualities match those which we
discussed earlier.
