Using Freading on Your
Smartphone or Tablet

2. How is Freading different?
 eBooks can be read by many people at once – no
waiting!
 Freading is a service to which the Library subscribes;
the selection of books is left to the folks at Freading.
 There are over 16,000 titles available in the Freading
catalog!

3. Getting Started
You will need:
 A Waukegan Public
Library card
 Your smartphone or
tablet
 Wi-Fi connection

4. Open the App
Store.
Search for
Freading and
download the free
app.

5. When the app
opens, you will be
prompted to enter
your Adobe ID.
If you don’t have
an Adobe ID, tap
Create a free
Adobe ID.

6. Enter the required
information and tap
Create.
Your device will only
need to be
authorized once.

7. Tap Back once the
ID has been
successfully
created.
Tap Get Books to
view the Freading
catalog.

8. You can browse for
eBooks by title,
author or keyword.
You can also browse
by category by
tapping the menu
button in the top
left corner and
tapping Categories.

9. Let’s tap
Categories and
then search for
Crafts & Hobbies.
Tap the cover of the
book you’d like to
read.

10. Tap Login to
Download.
Search for the
Waukegan Public
Library under
Library Name,
then tap Find
Library.

11. Select the
Waukegan Public
Library and enter
your library card
number when
prompted.

12. Tap Download
EPUB.
When the
download is
complete, you can
choose to Read
now or Read
later.

13. PDF books can be
downloaded in the
same way.
Tap Download
PDF, then tap
Read Now or
Read Later.

14. General Information
 Because eBooks are returned automatically at the end of the loan
period, it is impossible to accrue overdue fines.
 eBooks not owned by Waukegan Public Library cannot be obtained
through interlibrary loan. Freading adds new titles every month, so
check back often.
 Only patrons with Waukegan Public Library cards may download
eBooks.
 Freading eBooks are available in EPUB or PDF format only.
 Each library cardholder is allowed to download 3 titles per week.
Any unused downloads will roll over to the next week, for a period
of four weeks. Cardholders can have a maximum of 12 unused
downloads.
