Q7
1. Q7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from
it to the full product?
Looking back from my preliminary task to our finished product I can say I have learnt a lot more from
this project than with the preliminary task. Since our film opening was a different genre than our
preliminary task we had to research more into what possible ideas we may come up with and how
we would go on to show it. So for conventions we looked into what makes a superhero film, we
looked at powers, costumes, how they handle with being superheroes and villains. However instead
of making our character the superhero we have focused more him being a villain and then him
progressing into a hero, this makes it stand out and different from other superhero films in general.
It was a challenge also to find out what powers he will gain and how he’ll get them, so planning was
more in depth than before and some ideas worked and some didn’t. In the end we found a suitable
way for how he will gain and what particular power he’ll get, that being from a meteor and Quantum
tunnelling (walking through objects).
When we made our video for our preliminary task I only knew a few basic skills to do with editing
and directing a short film. I knew how to crop video footage down and add effects and transitions,
but during the process of our film opening I have learnt some new techniques such as overlaying
images to fit in with scene and how to remove its background so it looks like it fits the scene. Since I
was able to overlay images, creating titles and credits became easier. I was able to create detailed
titles and credits and then place them with the video and then make them a different size or add a
transition.
We had to plan out when we were able to film and if it was possible to get a location or not. We
used Aidan’s house for all the indoor scenes as it was close for us all to get to and was good as there
was no one in so we wouldn’t get interrupted or disturbed when filming. We had to find empty class
rooms when it came to doing the voice over’s, we found one where we able to record all the voice
over’s we needed in a quite area.
Creating and planning out the storyboard was easy for us once we knew what powers our character
would gain and how he gets them as well. It took a few days to get a finished plan done and then to
go and create the story board. We used post-it notes so that we could change or move certain
scenes if they were too long or short, so remove detail plus adding was simple enough.
Overall I think that myself and the group I’ve been working in have made a good film opening and
that now I feel more confident if I was asked to go out with the group again and make another film
opening or even something different.
