Revision: Techniques & Tips
WHEN SHOULD YOU START TO REVISE? ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
WHAT DO I REVISE? 5 .  Work out a revision timetable.  1 .  List all the topics & sub-topics of each subject. 2 .  Ask yourself : ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],3 .  Select topics to revise: don't revise everything 4 .  Decide the order of your revision and whether you  start  with  an easy task, then a difficult one or vice versa.
SEVEN STEPS TO REVISION ... 1 .  Play to your learning style. 2 .  Avoid long spell of just reading – don’t be passive 3 .  Start each revision slot by reviewing what you revised previously 4 .  Take lots of short breaks, don’t work for more than 20 mins at a  time; take 5 mins break then after two hours take a longer break  and a treat. 5 .  Make use of short bits of time – e.g. on the bus, before lunch.   6 .  Give yourself variety – don’t get stale & plod on with one topic for too long.  Use the revision circle. 7 .  Practise important things many times .
USE ACTIVE REVISION ... 1 .  Read with a purpose  2 .  Mind-mapping 3 .  Concept mapping 4 .  Note taking 7 .  Revision groups   6 .  Invent mnemonics  5 .  Test yourself – get someone else to test you . ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
TAKING THE EXAM ... 1 .  Check where and when and how long  2 .  Have an early relaxing night before 3 . Expect to feel nervous! It’s normal.  4 .  Avoid conversations before the exam which you know will wind you up. 7 .  If stuck don’t panic – leave it and go on to another question.  If time come back to it.   6 .  Answer the best question first – this will give you confidence. 5 .  Read the questions carefully ,  select the questions you are going to do and work out how much time to spend on each. 8 .  If running out of time finish the question in note form.   9 .  If you have time proofread and check your answers.

SQ4R Review:  look over the notes when you have finished.  Quiz yourself. Look at the notes the next day and then each week before the exam Question:  turn the first heading into a question   Read:  with the aim of finding the answer to your question Recite:  when you have completed that look away and speak out the jist of what you have found Rite:  make notes of the answer in abbreviated form – just enough to jog your memory Survey:  look at the headings and sub-headings and  summaries
