This session will report on the major findings from two unique BEMS case studies. Context of the studies that utilised TerOpta’s innovative BEMS, specifically adapted for small-scale modular implementation, will be outlined. Details of the power line carrier technology that was used to control connected devices and enable communication throughout the buildings will be shown. Further, the lighting and BEMS energy savings identified will be presented, as well as future energy saving potential.

Removing carbon from the processes which are essential to our modern world will be one of our generation's defining challenges. Central to this goal will be the role of Energy Storage within our modern infrastructure. Energy storage will need to be placed at all parts in our infrastructure - both in front and behind the meter applications will be key. These diverse applications will need a portfolio of technologies to deliver services to a range of customers. In this talk we explore some innovation possibilities with a focus on (a) Li-ion roadmap and the role of digitisation, (b) Flow batteries for longer term storage and finally (c) Power2X technologies for Energy Reserve and Chemical Industry.

The Port are working in partnership with National Grid Gas Transmission for an innovation project submitted for Funding under the Network Innovation Competition 2016. The project is expected to utilise renewable generation from the Port’s 5MWp solar farm to produce hydrogen, for storage and to demonstrate the flexibility of hydrogen as an energy carrier, relieving grid constraints and enabling more generation onto an alternative energy network that address’ the UK’s carbon plan.

In phases, they installed 85 kW Rooftop solar system. And they are proud to say that there was a reduction in energy consumption from more than 830 units per day to 340 units per day within a span of six months. During recent summer, the electricity bill even came down even to Rs. 5000 from the initial bill of Rs.3,59,000 a year ago. And at the same time, the maintenance charges came down to around to Rs.10,500 per quarter in place of Rs.54,000.

It is more than 40 years since the technology of variable-speed drives (VSDs) entered the market. Yet despite electric motors accounting for some 65 percent of industrial energy consumption, only 5 percent of installed motors are speed controlled. While not all motors are suitable for speed control, there is still a large proportion that could be. Yet when asked what is the most effective way to reduce energy, UK business responded with “change energy supplier”. Without doubt the most effective way to get real energy savings is to install energy efficient motors and VSDs. In this presentation John Guthrie looks at the impact of VSDs on a diverse range of sectors, offering real examples from hospitals and swimming pools to data centres and car parks.

Thin film, silicon, concentrated solar power (CSP), concentrated photovoltaics (CPV), ... These are just some of the terms demonstrating that solar technologies are rapidly entering the electricity system in countries such as the United States, Spain or Australia. Furthermore, the largest improvements, which will bring generation cost closer to competitive prices are just around the corner. This webinar is dedicated to utility scale and baseload solar technologies: CSP and CPV. What is the status of these technologies, their improvement potential and perspectives for the future? What are the running projects and expectations in terms of market development? How is the levelized energy price expected to evolve in the near future to reach grid parity? Additionally, more practical aspects will be presented, as the conditions required by a CSP project to be viable or the keys to successfully finance the project. After this briefing presentation, a discussion with participants will be launched on questions such as storage capabilities and system operation. Other questions from attendees are welcome to guide the discussion.

Teesside Collective has been developing a financial support mechanism to kickstart an Industrial Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) network in the UK. This project would transform the Teesside economy, which could act as a pilot area in the UK as part of the Government’s Industrial Strategy. The final report– produced by Pöyry Management Consulting in partnership with Teesside Collective – outlines how near-term investment in CCS can be a cost-effective, attractive proposition for both Government and energy-intensive industry. The report was published on Teesside Collective’s website on 7 February. You will be able to view copies of the report in advance of the webinar. We were delighted to welcome Sarah Tennison from Tees Valley Combined Authority back onto the webinar programme. Sarah was joined by Phil Hare and Stuart Murray from Pöyry Management Consulting, to take us through the detail of the model and business case for Industrial CCS. This webinar offered a rare opportunity to speak directly with these project developers and understand more about their proposed financial support mechanism.

Created by Mozilla Research in 2012 and now part of Linux Foundation Europe, the Servo project is an experimental rendering engine written in Rust. It combines memory safety and concurrency to create an independent, modular, and embeddable rendering engine that adheres to web standards. Stewardship of Servo moved from Mozilla Research to the Linux Foundation in 2020, where its mission remains unchanged. After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine. In this presentation, Rakhi Sharma reviews the status of the project, our recent developments in 2023, our collaboration with Tauri to make Servo an easy-to-use embeddable rendering engine, and our plans for the future to make Servo an alternative web rendering engine for the embedded devices industry.
