The political bans during the 1990s (until
28 February 1997) allowed and provided
greater visibility to Islam both as a style of life
and as political formation. Political Islam
during this period became a social movement
which based its discourse and praxis on tebliğ
– notification.

With the so-called “postmodern” military intervention of
“28 February,” by which political Islamists received a
