2. Overview of Terms(Don’t worry about memorizing them) Knit = k Knit Two = k2 = k+k Knit Two Together = k2tog Purl = p Purl Two = p2 = p+p Purl Two Together = p2tog

3. Make sure you pull enough string to have a long tail (about 6 or more feet) End of Tail Attached

4. Then make your Slip Knot, with the tail on the left and attached on the right Slip Knot

5. Begin by Casting On WITH THE TAIL

6. Cast On 94 stitches Hint: This will shorten your tail, but there should be 24 inches left afterwards

7. Row 1: a series of Knit 2 Purl 2. For the first two stitches, only knit Use attached to knit, not tail

9. After 2 Knits, move the attached end between the two needles Hint: it is important to move the yarn after each 2. If not, you will have more than 94 stitches Move behind needle to front

16. Your hat should look like this after Row 1 of alternating Knit 2 Purl 2 Hint: your last 2 stitches should have been k2

17. Row 2: a continuation of Row 1. So this row begins with PURL 2 KNIT 2 Move to inside for p2 Hint: this row should end with Purl 2. k2 p2

18. Repeat Row 1 and 2 three more times. The hat should be 1 inch length.

19. Row 9: this row will be ENTIRELY KNIT Remember the yarn is on the outside

20. Row 10: this will be ENTIRELY PURL Remember the yarn is on the inside

21. Continue repeating Rows 9 and 10. The next row is entirely Knit Yarn Outside

22. Then the next row is entirely Purl Yarn Inside

23. Continue repeating Rows 9 and 10 until the hat is 6-7 inches total. Hint: the length will depend on who will wear it.

24. The next row is ENTIRELY Knit Two Together. Hint: to k2tog, insert the needle through 2 stitches instead of 1 and Knit as normal

25. By Knitting Two Together, this will reduce your stitches amount by 1/2 k2tog

26. Your hat should look like this, with a total of 47 stitches. Hint: in case you had more/less than 94 stitches, k2tog until complete. If there is an odd number, Knit the last stitch by itself

27. The next row is ONLY Purl. DO NOT p2tog Hint: you will still have 47 stitches after this row

28. For the next row, Knit 2 Together. This will reduce your stitches by ½ again Hint: for the last stitch of your 47, Knit it by itself

29. Your hat should look like this with 24 stitches left.

30. The next row is ONLY Purl. DO NOT p2tog Hint: you will still have 24 stitches after this row

31. For the next row, Knit 2 Together. This will reduce your stitches by ½ again. Hint: if you have an odd #, simply Knit the last stitch by itself.

32. Your hat should look like this with 12 stitches left.

33. For the final row, Purl 2 Together. This will reduce your stitches by ½ Hint: to p2tog, insert the needle through two stitches then Purl as normal

34. Your hat should look like this with 6 stitches left.

35. To finish the hat, cut the attached end so that 10 inches remain.

36. Using a bobby-pin or large sewing needle, weave the yarn through the stitches.

37. Now remove the needles and tighten the string that you weaved through.

38. From the inside of the hat, knot the string near the top and cut off the remaining yarn.

39. Using the original tail and a bobby-pin or sewing needle, seam the two edges

40. On the side without the tail, weave the yarn through a horizontal stitch. Hint: horizontal stitches can be found behind the outside pattern by stretching the sides

41. Tighten to join the bottom of the hat.

42. Now weave the yarn through a horizontal stitch on the other side. Continue alternating sides and moving upwards.

43. Once you pass the rim, continue weaving through horizontal stitches. Hint: when you reach this point you must choose whether to weave through the Vs or s. For symmetry, you must go through the same on each side. V

44. Once the entire hat is seamed, weave the yarn through the inside and knot until secure. Cut off the remaining tail. knot seam
