1. Q3) What have you
learnt from audience
feedback?
By Shafiqur Rahman
2. Audience Feedback
After completing our ancillary texts and documentary, we decided
to conduct research with a group of 15 people. They were made
to watch the documentary, listen to the radio trailer and view the
article for the Tv Listings magazine. All people involved were both
male and females that were within our Target audience age range
(13-18). We gave out the questionnaires so that people could
answer truthfully so that any concerns raised would be dealt with
in any future productions or straight away.
After watching/listening/viewing our products and answering the
questions,we conducted all of this together and analysed the
answers. I tallied down the feedback so that itd be easier to
display the results of the feedback through charts/graphs.

9. After listening to the radio trailer, would you want to watch our documentary?
10. Does the article interest you?
4. After watching the 5 minute opening of the documentary, would
you continue watching the rest?
Yes
No
Everyone said that they would continue to watch the rest of the documentary, after they
Had watched the first five minutes.
5. What did you like the most about the documentary?
Because the question couldn’t
be answered with one single
answer, I have decided to
present the actual answers
people provided in the
questionnaire. There was a
variation in the answers, some
people liked the facts and vox
pops, whilst others appreciated
the background footage
6. What would you change anything about the documentary?
Because there was no majority decision about what they’d like to change about the documentary
, I decided to look out for some of the more important things people pointed out.
Here are a list of things people wouldve changed:
• Less text screens with facts
• They felt the start was too slow and needed to be sped up
• Structure of questions
• Adjusting the focus for some of the scenes
• Add more ‘fades’ etc.
• Adding background music to interviews
Many of those who filled out the questionnaire felt that the documentary needed no changing
But some suggested some critique. The issues which viewers said should change were
Minor things such as adding music to the background and speeding up the start of the
documentary.
7. Do you feel that the sound used in the documentary suited the
topic of the documentary?
Yes
No
The majority of people (13) said that they felt the sound suited the topic. They said that the
Music doesn’t distract them from the content of the documentary and this is exactly what
We wanted. They also liked the upbeat feel the music had. On the other hand two people
Didn’t feel as though the music suited the topic and also thought this was the reason for
The transitions going too fast.
8. Do you think there was a flow in the documentary?
Was it composed well?
These are some of the
Answers from the
questionnaire
One person felt as though the
documentary was cut off at
certain parts, therefore the flow
was disturbed because of this.
The rest (14) had said that the
documentary flowed well and
that the sound/content combines
Yes the documentary as a whole
which results in an identity for
No
the product. The results are
something im happy with as the
majority felt there was a
continuation and flow
throughout the documentary.
9. Does the documentary make you more aware about the topic
of cyber-bullying?
All 15 people that took part in our questionnaire answered YES to this
question. They all felt the documentary had made them more aware on
the topic of cyber-bullying. In our research & Planning our main aim of
this documentary was to raise awareness on the topic as we felt it is an
issue that looms in modern day life. I am very pleased that everyone felt
this way about the documentary as I feel our initial aim has been achieved.

10. What did you think about the quality of the interviews?
In our research and planning when we analysed previous students documentaries, we found that their weakness and downfall was the quality
And sound of their interviews. The interviews were therefore a priority to us and something that we wanted to get right. The majority of our
Opening consists of both vox pops and formal interviews so we felt that this couldn’t be something that we made a mistake on. Hearing the
Subject being recorded is very important and our audience felt that the quality was high and the sound was clear; something we targeted.
Background noise was also an issue in the students work we watched, the way we avoided this; is by pointing the microphone in the direction
Of the person and trying to get it as close to them as possible without the mic being seen in the frame.

13. Does the article interest you?
The article was for a tv listings magazine and it was one of the ancillary texts to promote
Our documentary. This question was once again a question that couldn’t carry one set
Answer, therefore I have attached the comments people made on the question. Overall
There was a positive response and those who watched felt there was an interest.
14. Conclusion
Gaining audience feedback was a very important part for our whole process.
It enabled us to get an idea of how well we did and where we could improve;
such as more of an upbeat radio trailer (although the majority liked it). The
audience that we asked were all within our target audience (male/female
aged 13-18). It was crucial we got their opinions as they are the market we
were aiming our documentary at. During our Planning and Research our
intention was to create a documentary that gave more information and
insight into the issue of cyber-bullying; everyone said that they felt more
informed and I am very happy with this as this was our aim.
One thing I am surprised by is the mixed reaction on ‘facts’ we used. Some
said that this was their favorite part of the documentary whilst others said
there was too many. This is the only thing i feel was a downfall in our
documentary. In Hindsight the use of more background footage may have
interested viewers further, but overall I think the main product and the
ancillary texts were successful and our initial objective was met.
