Working together, fundraisers in
communities all over England, Wales, and
Northern Ireland, combine to raise over
£300,000 for Shine each year!
The average donation from these amazing
supporters is £80, with some determined
individuals raising over £10,000! Whatever
amount you can raise, it all contributes to
this total, there really is no amount too small!
Getting started as
a Shine fundraiser...
Dean Godwyn, who
has spina bifida,
completed the
Virgin Active
London Marathon
in 11hrs 50mins
and raised £10,409!
So, you’ve heard of Shine, maybe you’ve benefited from some of our
unique services, maybe you just want to make a difference by helping
some of society’s most vulnerable individuals – whatever your reason for
being here, we welcome you!
Fay Dovey and Aaron
Ratcliffe and their daughter
Maya, who has SB/H.
We are excited because we
know that so many people
like you are passionate about
helping others. We know that
when you fundraise for a
charity you want to know
that your gifts improve
thousands of lives every year.
We know that with a little
support from us, you can
achieve great things.
We also know that, for many,
starting to fundraise can be
a daunting challenge. There
can be lots of questions that
you don’t know the answer
to; that is what we are
here for.
From the very first contact,
whether it is a phone call, an
online enquiry, or a personal
meeting, we will give you
what you need to be
successful for Shine.
We have a dedicated
Marketing and Events Team
which will give you all the
materials, merchandise, and
expertise you need.
There are endless ideas for
how you can fundraise and
we love to hear of your
creative ideas too.
You make the difference
We have been working to positively impact the lives of everyone living
with spina bifida and hydrocephalus since 1966. We have a long heritage
of community fundraising and we are excited about the future of our
work in this area.
Don't just take our
word for it, here are
some comments from
last year’s participants:
“Seeing everyone in yellow at school
was amazing! We made yellow cakes
and took donations, altogether we
raised over £200 for Shine!”
“We all dressed in yellow tops for the
day at our primary school, the school
assembly was a sea of yellow! Everyone
paid 50p and we made £150 for Shine.”
“Our nursery group all wore something
yellow for the day - bibs, baby grows,
wellies … anything yellow! We raised
£65 for Shine!”
You can contact us
by phone, online, or
at a Shine event.

We’re very proud of our
distinctive colours of yellow
and orange. Wear Yellow and
Shine is a simple but very
effective way to stand out
from the crowd and Shine!
Every school, college, community
group, and workplace can get
involved by choosing a day when
everyone wears yellow for the day
and makes a donation to Shine.
We have several fundraising initiatives which give a framework to
our most popular activities, they include:
Wear Yellow and Shine
WinnersWearYellow™
*Cycling and Triathlon events only
When you sign up as a WinnersWearYellow™
fundraiser for Shine you then choose your own
vest, jersey*, or t-shirt and, with our team, begin
to plan out everything you need to make the
event a success.
This includes; establishing a training plan,
setting up your sponsorship profile, deciding
the best way to share your event, and keeping
in regular contact to make sure you have
everything you need to succeed.
All of our active fundraising
challenges are grouped into our
WinnersWearYellow™
fundraising initiative.
This includes activities such
as: Running • Cycling
• Triathlons • Swimming
• Parachute Jumps
• Walks • Treks
Every July and August we encourage you
to pick a date and then get a group of
people together to fundraise through
Shades for Shine.
Shades for Shine is the perfect summer fundraising
event, all you have to do is wear your sunglasses to
school, work, or wherever else you might be, for
the day.
The more adventurous you can be with your
designs the better.
We then ask you to take a photo and share it
through a variety of social networks with the hash
tag #ShadesForShine – at the end of the summer
the person with the best photo which is tagged in
this way will win a great prize!
Benny is very fortunate in that he can have a
birthday any day of the year! All you have to
do is organise a Benny Bear themed event
and make part of the experience a
celebration of Benny’s birthday.
There are various ways to fundraise with
Benny including cake sales, face painting,
and games with small prizes.
Here at Shine we have lots of experience of
Benny Bear Birthday parties, we are always
on hand to help with your Teddy Bear’s
Picnic, Bear Hunt, or any other Benny
themed event you can host!
We have a adult sized Benny costume which
can be delivered for your event too!
Benny Bear’s Birthday
Benny Bear is the bear with hydrocephalus. Benny
helps hundreds of children every year to understand
and live with their condition.
