2. • History
• Projectdescription
• Application
• Field Reports
• Outlook
3. • Map Your World Project since 2009
– Problem: complex (infrastructure, time-wise)
• Strategic Initiative FHNW, School of Teacher
Education:
Promote the interest of secondary school
students in technical professions
• Limitation: 4 lessons!
4. • Students record their daily routes (~ 1 Week)
• GPS data is uploaded, stored and processed
in a central database (PostgreSQL)
• Web application provides results as maps
showing spatial-kinesthetic behavior and
motion patterns:
– Heatmap of GPS tracks
– Hotspots
– Indoorlocations
5. • Objective
– Introduce map and navigation technologies
(GPS, map navigation and interpretation etc.)
– Create an awareness of Privacy and how Privacy
is related to spatial data
• Privacy Policy
– Project requires credentials;
– Data is deleted after 1 month
– Project-name…
6. • Functionality Web application
– Computation of heatmap / hotspots etc.
– Filter options (time of day, day, age, sex)
– Movie / Animation of tracks (5‘ Interval)
7. • Requirements:
– Hardware: GPS Logger or Smartphone etc.
– Software: just a standard Webbrowser (FF,GC)
8.
9. • First Week: 2 Lessons
– 1 Lesson Introduction
– 1 Lesson GPS test data collection & data upload
• Second Week: 2 Lessons
– 1 Lesson upload collected data & analysis
– 1 Lesson discussion & privacy issues
14. • Secondary Schhool, Wildegg (2 classes)
– Successful project kick-off
– Minor browser problems
– Very interesting and animated discussion
15. Students comments:
• “Which café in town did the most boys or girls go to? How long
did they stay there? What day of the week was it?”
• „On Sunday afternoon, Carlo did a bike tour in the forest. You

• “There is no crosswalk in front of Migros, even though many
people cross the street there.”
• “You could figure out where to place a kebab stand.”
• etc.
16. • Spread information…
• Find out about relations based on GPS tracks
• Optimise GPS-Track‘s Geometries
• Evaluation of other areas of application
(urban planning, bike couriers, etc.)
• Projects ahead:
– Request of Prof. Dr. J.P. Mund (Forestry)
– August 2012 Lucerne (2 Classes)
– Schaffhausen (Q3/2012)
17. • We offer GPS-Logger
• Investigate demo applications at
app.see--you.ch (‚demo‘/‘demo‘)
• Get credentials via info@see--you.ch
• Upload and analyse your data:
