This document discusses the effects of a child's self-respect from an Adlerian perspective. It contrasts highlighting a child's negatives versus positives, conditional acceptance versus trusting a child's abilities, overprotection versus experiencing life, perfection versus progress, passive participation versus active participation, pessimism versus optimism, feelings of being unloved versus feelings of being loved, giving up versus having courage when facing problems, and feelings of inability versus feelings of being able to meet life's challenges. The goal is for children to feel important, valuable, and useful rather than unimportant and worthless.
