How Drone Technology Is Revolutionizing the Marketplace (with a demo), presented by Lloyd Garden and Brad Flora
Tahoe Silicon Mountain, a network of technology professionals who live and work in the Tahoe-Truckee area, is pleased to welcome Lloyd Garden and Brad Flora to present: “How Drone Technology Is Revolutionizing the Marketplace.”
Aerial videography and photography, traffic reporting, environmental surveys, and product delivery are just some of the ways the now widely-available drone technology can be used. Despite controversy over the personal and commercial use of drones and a lack of proper FAA regulation, companies are racing to take advantage of opportunities made possible by drone equipment that has become available to the mass market over the past few years.
Lloyd Garden and Brad Flora, co-owners of Drone Promotions LLC, a local company that provides aerial photography and videography, will talk about drone technology, FAA rules, and how drones can be used in a variety of markets. They will also discuss Drone Promotions’ quest for innovative ways of using their drone outside the video production realm and will have their drone on hand for a demonstration (weather dependent).
You can learn more about Drone Promotions at: http://www.drone-promotions.com/.
The meeting will be on Monday, September 8th, 6-8 pm at Pizza on the Hill, in Tahoe Donner at 11509 Northwoods Blvd., Truckee. A $5 fee includes pizza and salad. Before and after the presentation, there will be time for networking with other technology professionals who live and work in the Tahoe-Truckee region.
This month’s event is sponsored by New Leaders and the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce.

9. FAA
Who is the FAA?
The FAA is the Federal Aviation Administration,
responsible for the safety of U.S. airspace from the ground up.
Current Laws
• All commercial flights are illegal unless they obtain a
COA (Certificate of Authorization) – difficult to obtain.
• “The FAA’s position is as simple as it is absurd.”
The laws are currently based on commercial vs. non-commercial,
not safety.
• The FAA is overwhelmed with the rise in drone use.
Congress is giving the FAA a 2015 deadline to establish
laws.
10. FAA
Current Situations
• The FAA has the right to impose fines on any
flight that enters in the National Airspace that
puts public safety at risk
• Yet, everyday drones are being flown for
commercial and non-commercial purposes
with no penalty and minimal regulation.
• In cases where the FAA has gone after
commercial pilots, the courts have ruled in
favor of pilots.
11. FAA
The Need For New Drone Laws
• Drone are now more easily accessible due to
lower costs and higher quality.
• Today, commercial pilots held to higher
standards than hobbyists’ are.
• To allow for new drone research and technology
• New regulations to include:
• Interim guidelines for drone use
• Air traffic control for below 400 ft.
• Drone awareness
• Drone licenses & certificates
12. FAA
Drone Promotions and the FAA
DP code of ethics is based off of the 2012 FAA modernization and Reform Act & The Academy of Model Aeronautics.
