2. Trombone
The camera angle which is shown
here is a trombone shot. This is
where the camera moves forwards
whilst adjusting the zoom angle to
keep the subject the same size in the
frame. This shot creates an
unnatural effect, as it is something
your eyes will not normally see.
This makes the background seem to
grow and become dominant. This
effect is quite emotional and is often
used to convey sudden realisation
and reaction to a dramatic event. In
this context, the death of Sarah's
daughter. This shot also emphasizes
Sarah’s fear of the darkness in the
corridor.
3. Close-Up
The shot which is present here is a
close-up. This is where a photograph
or film image is taken at close range
and is showing the subject on a large
scale and is focused on the subjects
face. The effect that this has is that it
shows the subjects emotion and
expression on the subjects. In this
context, it shows the fear of the
darkness in Sarah’s eyes. Also, a close
up of a face is a very intimate shot.
Furthermore, this shot shows the
state of confusion and panic she is in
following the car crash.
4. Medium-Shot
The camera angle which is present here
is a medium-shot. It shows the key
character of the scene from a short
distance and the camera does not
move. The main idea of this shot is to
show the main character or object in
the scene and idolize the importance of
it to the viewing audience.
Here the shot is used to show Sarah’s
daughter who is most important to her
and her daughters 5th birthday and
highlights the importance of Sarah’s
daughter. This is also used as an
indication that Sarah’s daughter has
died in the car crash, this also shows
the significance of the effect that the
death of her daughter is going to play
on her in the film.
5. Arc
The camera angle which is used here
is a arc shot. An arc shot is when the
camera angle moves around and
circles the subject. This camera shot
shows all of what's happening around
the subject, but still focuses on the
subject. The effect that this shot has
is that it emphasizes what is
happening to the subject, such as
emotions and feelings, whilst showing
what is happening around her. This
sometimes can also show time
passing.
In this context, an arc shot is used to focus
on the subject of Sarah and emphasizes how
she is dealing with the death of her husband
and daughter. In the background, we can see
how Juno is also effected by the tragedy and
all the people in the hospital passing by. This
also shows that setting in more detail.
6. Steadicam
A steadicam is used here to follow
the subject in fast motion without
shakiness. A steadicam involves the
use of a camera mount and stabilizer
to prevent the camera from shaking
by isolating the cameraman's
movement, which prevents it from
effecting the shot taken. It also
allows fast motion or fast movement
shots to be taken swiftly.
In this context, the steadicam is used
to focus on Sarah as she runs
through the hospital corridor without
the camera being unsteady. This is
done so that the audience is able to
see the distress Sarah is in and the
state of emotion is shown from her
face.
