There has been a lot of conversation on Jolt & Bolt about the importance of social media on a successful Internet Marketing strategy. We are seeing the shifts in search now with Google and Bing paying attention to social signals. Maybe you and your company just aren’t ready for (click) Facebook, you really don’t get the whole (click) Twitter thing and you have a basic empty profile on (click) Linkedin. You get that social may be important but what can you do if you don’t wish to do the other platforms?OR maybe you are working all of these platforms, what can you do next . . . How can you tie it all together and make it stronger? (click) Blogging.Today we’ll specifically talk about Blog Comments. Plain and simple, leave comments on the blogs you read. I’m betting you all read blogs. Some are specific to your industry, some are specific to your personal interests and some are news or political. We all read blogs. Many of us read a ton of blogs. But for some reason a significant portion of people who read blogs don’t leave comments. It’s a huge point of frustration for those of us that do blog. But it is a common across all industries people are afraid to step out and comment. So - four significant reasons to comments.(click)Link Building, Website Traffic, Branding and Networking
(click) Link Building: First let me define for anyone who may not know what is an inbound or inlink. It is a link to your website from another website. No one in the world of SEO argues the importance of quality inbound links. The better the website that the link originates from the more quality the inbound link offers to your website or SEO efforts. Good quality, clean HONEST links (I mean non paid truly given links) are very hard to come by. It is labor intensive to get good quality links. But that is exactly why Google places so much emphasis on them. One solid credible way drive some quality links is to comment on blogs relevant to your industry. You must follow blogs and leaders within your industry who blog. No you need to start engaging with them.
You can see the links included in the blog comment. There is a sincere comment on the blog as well as links back to his site and other relevant content. (click)And our own Marcom Czar the amazing Gillian Kenny takes advantage of a blog comments on our own blog to offer a link to our YouTube channel.
This is a snap shot of one of our clients reports where put a lot of effort into link building. We utilize our clients industry relevant blogs to help support our link building efforts and you can see here that we show a significant increase in Referring Sites traffic, which is attributable to our linking efforts.
BRIAN SFINAS TO NARRATE
Stephane registered and attended our Jolt & Bolt on Social Media ROI.(click) After the webinar he commented on my blog post about Social Media ROI,…then he emailed me as his company DashThis.com has an innovative dashboard for Google analytics.(click) Now we are connected on Twitter (click) and Linkedin. While Stephane isn’t a potential client he is a valuable addition to my network community.Additionally, we are in conversation with him about his company’s services, clearly it worked for him. The only reason I didn’t perceive Stephane as a spammer as he offered honest genuine feedback on my presentation and blog post. He then followed up with an email through our website and then followed us on Twitter. (click) Most recently we have also connected on Linkedin.
Utilize your efforts with blog comments to build your brand. Either build your corporate brand or your personal brand but utilize it consistently. One easy way to do that is to utilize a Gravatar. Go to www.gravatar.com and create your gravatar. It is a globally recognized avatar and most websites and blogs now recognize them.
So now you know all the reasons why it can be a valuable use of your time to comment on blogs. Here is HOW you do it. Remember your cocktail party social rules of engagement.Actually read the articleDon’t make it about you, make it about them and their contentMake your comments relevant, agree or disagree politely but engage in their topic, NOT YOURSComment to other commentersAlways follow up to responses you receive to your commentFurther the conversation if appropriate: Linkedin, email, twitter, facebookDon’t spam or be inappropriate.
