UK G-Cloud: The First Instantiation of True Cloud?

The UK G-Cloud aims to be the first true instance of cloud computing by creating a central market (App Store) for standardized IT services from multiple providers. It allows public sector organizations to access resources and workloads from various providers and pay based on usage. While not a true cloud by NIST's definition requiring interoperability of utilities, the G-Cloud defines a "Private Cloud" as infrastructure dedicated to the government using amalgamated computing utilities.

This work is about how both private enterprise and government wish to improve their data value and how they deal with this issue. The talk summarizes the way of thinking about Big Data, Open Data and their use by organizations or individuals. Big Data is explained from collecting, storing, analyzing and put in value. This data is collected from numerous sources including sensor networks, government data holdings, company market databases, and public profiles on social networking sites. Organizations use many data analytical techniques to study both structured and unstructured data. Due to the volume, velocity and variety of data, some specific techniques have been developed. MapReduce, Hadoop and other related as RHadoop are trending topic nowadays. Data which come from government must be open. Every day more and more cities and countries are opening their data. Open Data is then presented as a specific case of public data with a special role in Smartcity. The main goal of Big and Open Data in Smartcity is to develop systems which can be useful for citizens. In this sense RMap (Mapa de Recursos) is shown as an Open Data application, an open system for Madrid City Council, avalaible for smarthphones and totally developed by the researching group G-TeC (www.tecnologiaUCM.es).

In 1999, Salesforce.com started delivering of applications to users using a simple website. The applications were delivered to enterprises over the Internet, and this way the dream of computing sold as utility were true. In 2002, Amazon started Amazon Web Services, providing services like storage, computation and even human intelligence. However, only starting with the launch of the Elastic Compute Cloud in 2006 a truly commercial service open to everybody existed. In 2009, Google Apps also started to provide cloud computing enterprise applications.

In computer networking, cloud computing is a phrase used to describe a variety of computing concepts that involve a large number of computers connected through a communication network such as the Internet. It is very similar to the concept of utility computing. In science, cloud computing is a synonym for distributed computing over a network, and means the ability to run a program or application on many connected computers at the same time. The phrase is often used in reference to network-based services, which appear to be provided by real server hardware, and are in fact served up by virtual hardware, simulated by software running on one or more real machines. Such virtual servers do not physically exist and can therefore be moved around and scaled up or down on the fly without affecting the end user, somewhat like a cloud becoming larger or smaller without being a physical object.

Swiftly increasing demand of computational calculations in the process of business, transferring of files under certain protocols and data centers force to develop an emerging technology cater to the services for computational need, highly manageable and secure storage. To fulfill these technological desires cloud computing is the best answer by introducing various sorts of service platforms in high computational environment. Cloud computing is the most recent paradigm promising to turn around the vision of “computing utilities” into reality. The term “cloud computing” is relatively new, there is no universal agreement on this definition. In this paper, we go through with different area of expertise of research and novelty in cloud computing domain and its usefulness in the genre of management. Even though the cloud computing provides many distinguished features, it still has certain sorts of short comings amidst with comparatively high cost for both private and public clouds. It is the way of congregating amasses of information and resources stored in personal computers and other gadgets and further putting them on the public cloud for serving users. Resource management in a cloud environment is a hard problem, due to the scale of modern data centers, their interdependencies along with the range of objectives of the different actors in a cloud ecosystem. Cloud computing is turning to be one of the most explosively expanding technologies in the computing industry in this era. It authorizes the users to transfer their data and computation to remote location with minimal impact on system performance. With the evolution of virtualization technology, cloud computing has been emerged to be distributed systematically or strategically on full basis. The idea of cloud computing has not only restored the field of distributed systems but also fundamentally changed how business utilizes computing today. Resource management in cloud computing is in fact a typical problem which is due to the scale of modern data centers, the variety of resource types and their inter dependencies, unpredictability of load along with the range of objectives of the different actors in a cloud ecosystem.

In this paper, fast, efficient, simple and widely used Set Partitioned Embedded bloCK based coding is done on Multiple Descriptions of transformed image. The maximum potential of this type of coding can be exploited with discrete wavelet transform (DWT) of images. Two correlated descriptions are generated from a wavelet transformed image to ensure meaningful transmission of the image over noise prone wireless channels. These correlated descriptions are encoded by set partitioning technique through SPECK coders and transmitted over wireless channels. Quality of reconstructed image at the decoder side depends upon the number of descriptions received. More the number of descriptions received at output side, more enhance the quality of reconstructed image. However, if any of the multiple description is lost, the receive can estimate it exploiting the correlation between the descriptions. The simulations performed on an image on MATLAB gives decent performance and results even after half of the descriptions is lost in transmission.

Cloud Computing is growing rapidly, and it is likely to become part of the dominant computing infrastructure for individuals, start-up firms, small-medium businesses, and large enterprises. However, as it is still an emerging set of technologies and business models, discussions of Cloud Computing have not reached the level of clarity or shared conceptions of more mature areas of computing. The purpose of this document is threefold. Part I can be used as a standalone introduction to Cloud Computing for general audiences. It provides an operating definition of Cloud Computing, with an overview of the logic behind competing definitions. Part II introduces a set of conceptual tools that helps map US competitors and understand their strategies. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) definition of Cloud Computing distinguishes between service and delivery models. To the discussion of service models, we contribute a conception of ―stacks‖ that enhances the NIST definitions to better understand the realities of the market as it unfolds. Part II also presents Cisco‘s conceptions of delivery models, which are enhancements of the NIST definitions. Part III examines the market and regulatory issues facing different sets of users and providers. It concludes with a brief overview of emerging regulatory issues.
