Brandon Bostian Case Study
Brandon Bostian was a 32 year old railroad engineer who was in control of a train on May 12, 2015,
when his northbound train suddenly accelerated just before approaching on a curve by more than
twice the speed limit. The train derailed, killing eight passengers and wounding more than 200. Four
days after the accident took place, 17 travelers were proceeded to be hospitalized. However, Bostian
was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital on the same night as the crash. Investigation
a train carrying 243 passengers from Washington, D.C., to New York accelerated around a curve in
Philadelphia at approximately 100 miles per hour, double the speed limit, once combined with the
sharpness of the curve, the train s high speed caused

Comparing Susan B Anthony Dares To Vote And Making Sarah Cry
In the stories Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote and Making Sarah Cry share a common theme which is
helping others. Both characters help others in the stories. For example in Making Sarah Cry she
helped the boy and he helped her. And in Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote she tries to help women.
Even though the passage and the poem have the same theme they have some differences. Like in
Making Sarah Cry She helps her, and the boy but in Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote she helps
thousands or millions of women get their rights. In the story Making Sarah Cry it shows the theme of
helping others many ways. A couple of example are when the boy or narrator was getting bullied
because of his scars sarah said leave him alone you bullies, because he s a friend

Why Do Some Parents Have The Biased Experiences Of Their...
Why do some parents still have the limited biased experiences of their daughters not being able to take

what my brothers can do because I m a girl. My brother and I go out every other weekend with our
own friends. As soon as it s midnight I start getting phone calls from my parents asking where am I at,
and what time am I getting home. If I say I ll be home in an hour or so they flip out and tell me that I

Since the moment of birth we are placed on the dual track. A newborn is wrapped in a pink blanket
emphasizing that the newborn is a female and a newborn wrapped in a blue blanket shows that the
baby is a male. After this moment the newborn male or female are gender scripted. A female is
typically on the pink side of the dual track expected to be sensitive, feminine, dependent and to stay
home to clean the house and take care of her children. On the other hand, a male is on the blue side of
the dual track and suppose to be strong, masculine, independent, head of the household, successful and
aggressive. We are gender intensified three times in our lives, the first time is when we are born we
are place on either the pink or blue side of the dual track emphasizing which track we belong to based
on our gender. The second time is when we are beginning adolescence, during this time one is going
through puberty and is in search for his or her identity leading to once again basing on one s genitalia,
clarifying whether you are a female or a male. The third time is when a couple is going through a
pregnancy, gender scripts are clear indicating that the female will be giving birth to the child therefore
is expected to stay home, while the male is expected to provide and protect in all ways for his family.
These expectations lead to why men and women are considered as the opposite sex, meaning that
these two genders have no overlap what so ever. It is

Content Reading Inferences
This week s reading covers many areas of content reading instruction such as the inferencing, word
recognition, explicit instruction in comprehension, strategies to increase comprehension and retention,
strategies to partner reading and content routine, and how to love and nurture our students with God s
word. All these areas play a vital role in growing independent readers.
Kaylene Beer pointed out several significant areas of reading comprehension that help students
increase their fluency. Inferences is a skill that helps students with their understanding of written text.
Content area teachers must model and give large amounts of practice for developing this skill. Bear
also discussed in chapter eleven word recognition which has a direct connection with fluency and
reading comprehension. As she pointed out students need a repertoire of skills beyond sounding it out
to help struggling readers with recognizing unfamiliar words (Beer,2003). We need to teach students
strategies that can be used to comprehend the text not just give the meaning of ... Show more content

Developing study skills is one way the content area teacher can help with retention of information.
Specific strategies discussed included knowing the purpose of the reading, rereading the text, check to
make sure you understand the vocabulary associated with that text, connect the big idea of the text to
your life, and identify any organization patterns present (Roe, 2014). He went on to discuss specific
strategies such as PSRT, SQ3R, RIWAC, AND SQRQCQ (Math and Science). He provided key areas
of preparation such as: following and rereading directions and using visual aids such as graphic
organizers and maps to help students retain information. Students must also develop a skill for
determining what is important and what is not important. Having effective study skills is necessary for

Similarities Between Structured Situational And...
Introduction Conducting an interview within a human resource department is part of the
prequalification process used to sift through a myriad of applicants. Different modes of interviews are
present and have been used for various reasons. This investigation delves into an analysis of the
structured situational and nondirective interviews. Moreover, this investigation explores the benefits
and the detriments of utilizing management assessment centers during a selection process. Structured
Situational Interviews vs. Nondirective Interviews The first similarity between structured situational
interviews and nondirective interviews is that they both seek additional knowledge or information

These assessment centers allow employees and recruits to feel an aura of investigation or probe into
their personal and professional lives as a prerequisite for employment or promotion. Thus, an
assessment center acts as a professional environment. Secondly, a management assessment center is
used to help candidates find their strengths and weaknesses due to the rigorous training exercises
involved at the center (Appelbaum, Harel, Shapiro, 2006). Candidates can then work on their
weaknesses to turn them into strength while reinforcing their strong areas. Also, an assessment center
can be used by the management to assist a candidate to improve on performance. The training
exercises carried out at the assessment centers are aimed at assisting candidates to become more
efficient in discharging a given mandate by increasing in areas that they are strong and eliminating
points of weaknesses (Appelbaum, Harel, Shapiro, 2006). Furthermore, a management assessment
center is more valid to the extent that the candidate is judged by a panel rather than an

What Liquefied Natural Gas ( Lng )
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of the Research Topic The initial part of this thesis
provides, through selective reference to some of the literature, a clearer understanding of the question
of what Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG hereinafter) is and how its transportation system works from the
production plants to consumers all over the world. The aforementioned analysis will constitute the
basis of understanding the main international technical and geostrategic changes taking place in the
LNG industry and the factors which lead to the contemporary augmentation of the spot market. In
particular, this chapter includes an analysis of the technical characteristics of LNG and its
transportation process on the one hand, and an analysis of the legal background focusing on
chartering. More specifically, it provides a brief analysis of the definitions and the main characteristics
of the Time Charter Parties (T/C hereinafter), and Voyage Charter Parties (VCP hereinafter). The
remainder of the chapter is devoted to the presentation and discussion of the main chartering routines
followed when trading a vessel under different charter parties (C/P hereinafter) and special C/P forms.
1.1.1 Technical Background Analysis Definition and basic properties of LNG This introductory
subsection provides a brief overview of LNG basic properties, a pre requisite for accurately assessing
potential LNG safety hazards and risks. Before proceeding to examine LNG properties, it will be

The Psychological Cost Of Children During The American...
Lt. Col. Dave Grossman is a former army Ranger, paratrooper, and west point psychology professor.
Grossman is a world renown expert in the field of human aggression and the psychology of combat
(Grossman et. al, 2007). In his book, On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War
and Society, he talks about non firing rate. Non firing rate is the percentage of soldiers who freeze up
during combat, and do not fire their weapon. There has been documentation of non firing rate dating
back to 1863, during the American Civil War. There is even documentation to prove that both World
War I and II soldiers displayed the same consistence in failing to fire their weapons; but why is this
important? The weapons had the proficiency to kill, but the soldier holding the weapon did not. All the
documentation of soldier s inability to fire their weapon indicates that there is a psychological power
greater than military training (Gorssman et. al., 1995). This force acts as a blockade, preventing man
from standing before man, and engaging in the conscious act of taking the life of a person. Even when
faced with the decision to kill the man standing before him, or be killed, evidence shows that man will
be killed before he kills (Grossman et. al., 1995). Thus, providing the evidence needed to indicate
humans are not born with the capability to kill. Engaging in combat has taken a tole on the mental
well being of the military service members.

Hamlet And Once Were Warriors Comparison
Good literature hold a mirror up to nature . They force the audience to reflect on themselves and the
world they live in. The playwright William Shakespeare and director Lee Tamahori understand the
conditions that our world is in and the flaws we have as human beings. They explore complex realities
that some face on a daily basis. Dysfunctional families, frailty, and redemption are realities reflected
Tamahori s Once Were Warriors, and Shakespeare s Hamlet. The realties teach us the flaws about
ourselves, yet it gives us hope and inspiration to change through redemption. Dysfunctional families is
a reality reflected in the play and the film that teaches us the flaws about ourselves. The play primarily
focuses on the despair in Hamlet s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamlet seeks redemption through revenge. Hamlet needed to redeem himself, only way to do this was
to put an end to Claudius. Laertes also redeemed himself by him and Hamlet forgiving each other, all
Laertes wanted was to avenge his father s death. Laertes says before he dies, Exchange forgiveness
with me, noble Hamlet. Mine and my father s death come not upon thee, Nor thine on me (5.2.322
324). Claudius also tried to redeem himself, after watching the Murder of Gonzago, Claudius
conscience intensified. He realized the evil in his deed of killing his brother and even says a complete
soliloquy about it. Oh, my offence is rank. It smells to heaven. It hath the primal eldest curse upon t, A
brother s murder. Pray can I not. Though inclination be as sharp as will, My stronger guilt defeats my
strong intent, And, like a man to double business bound, I stand in pause where I shall first begin, And
both neglect. What if this cursed hand Were thicker than itself with brother s blood? Is there not rain
enough in the sweet heavens To wash it white as snow? (3.3.37 47). He is seeking redemption and
forgiveness from his own sin from a higher power. In the end, Horatio is the redeemer to tell the story
and preach the lessons of this tragedy to the unknowing world. O, I could tell you But let it be.
Horatio, I am dead. Thou livest. Report me and my cause aright To the unsatisfied (5.2.330 333). Beth
in the end of the film had found redemption. She tells Jake, You have nothing I want Our people once
were warriors. But unlike you, Jake, they were people with mana, pride; people with spirit. If my spirit
can survive living with you for eighteen years, then I can survive anything . This shows how she
finally stood up for herself and realized how Jake is not good for her family. Nig and Boogie also
found redemption; Nig left the violent gang and returned to his family to help support his mother.

4 Functions of Management
The management process contains four basic functions; planning, organizing, leading and controlling.
By using these key tools, one can create an organization as a whole consisting of unified parts acting
in harmony to achieve goals, both successfully and proficiently. It is vital for an organization manager
to implement these functions to ensure the success of the company. The functions of management are
described, according to (Bateman, Snell, 2004) as follows: Planning is specifying the goals to be
achieved and deciding in advance the appropriate actions needed to achieve those goals. Planning
activities include analyzing current situations, anticipating the future, determining objectives, deciding
in what types of activities the company ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One guy has the job of inventory. He has to take inventory of all equipment. He has to gather all users
names and assign them with a workstation. And the last guy has to work with the other IT
departments, with the information at hand from the inventory, and associate each workstation with a
printer package and workstation object. Our manager has to also organize the rollout. How are we
going to get to the new location and what is the time frame which this needs to be completed. Leading
is going to also be an important factor with this project. Our manager needs to motivate us to actually
wanting to work very late on Friday and all day Saturday. Our manager needs to be able to
communicate with us and let us know what we have to do at that very moment. The leader needs to
keep us on the right track and focus on the goal at hand. This entails him to be present during the
rollout. I believe we will be motivated if he is present during the rollout, giving a helpful hand where
ever he can. Even if it isn t much, anything is better than nothing at all. The final function is
controlling. Management will have to monitor our progress during the rollout and decide what actions
need to be taken to improve. In past projects similar to this one, we ran into a few problems and
management had to reconfigure its game plan to make everything work out fine in the end. In one
instance, the cubicles that were

The Influences of Niccolò Machiavelli’s The Prince on...
Richard the Third was a power hungry tyrant, willing to do whatever it took to become the most
powerful man in the land. He lied, schemed, and ran down anyone who stumbled across his highway
to fame and fortune. His exploits, though morally deplorable, were highly successful for him up until
his fateful end. Many of his actions were taken straight from Niccolò Machiavelli s The Prince, which
is famous for its hard hearted philosophies on achieving power and ruling. Richard followed
Machiavelli s advice in that he was ruthless and careful to cover his tracks, but he failed to heed one of
his warnings: he made himself unpopular.
Richard was pushed far back in the line to the throne, being a third child and the present King already
having his own heirs. To even have a chance at ruling, his brothers and the oldest brother s children
would have to be killed. Richard saw to this quickly and methodically, as if murdering family and
children were completely natural to him. Near the end he did recognize that what he had done was a
damnable deed, but he consoled himself by saying that it was a neccisary evil for him to ascend the
throne. By using this justification, he was able to kill anyone who he thought was a threat to his
kingship. Machiavelli advised his Prince that if he wanted to gain a position that didn t belong to him,
he would have to be ready to kill the defenders of that space. He warned the Prince that the deed might
anger God, but implied that there was no other way

Violence In Video Games
To a lazy onlooker, violence in art has no other meaning than that of a primal nature. The use of
violence in abstraction is akin to the use of color in a painting. Video games and films in particular are
subject to such scrutiny as the use of violence is common in these mediums. The point of art such as
these is to express ideas, provide entertainment, and persuade the audience to think. Therefore, it is
absurd to think that video games and movies could invoke violent feelings onto someone. There is no
concrete evidence that supports the claim that society is negatively affected by violence in video
games and movies. The evidence that those of the opposite opinion consistently cite are weak
examples that can simply be attributed to other things than entertainment. For instance, the Columbine
shooters played video games frequently and this is used as one piece of qualitative data that many
opposition members cite. However, this cannot be used when describing the greater populace; the
Virginia Tech shooter never played video games and was seen as strange for not doing so by his peers.
Another typical point that the U.S. has the highest homicide rate in the world and Americans have
significant video game use. However, the Japanese are extremely avid gamers, more so than
Americans, and have an annual homicide rate close to zero. There is, however, no doubt that many
forms of media, written or visual are bloody. As Dr. Eugene Beresin says in a research article,

Zechariah Essay
Zechariah
Zechariah is one of the Minor Prophets of the Old Testament. His book is located between the books
of Haggai and Malachi. Zechariah is thought to have preached from about 520 518 B.C. The book of
Zechariah deals with the restoration of Jerusalem, the Temple, and God s people. Chapter 11 verses 4
17, which is a story of two shepherds, is one of the most difficult passages in the Old Testament to
understand. From the New Living Translation, the passage reads as follows: 4 This is what the LORD
my God says: quot;Go and care for a flock that is intended for slaughter. 5 The buyers will slaughter
their sheep without remorse. The sellers will say, Praise the LORD, I am now rich! Even the shepherds
have no compassion for them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, this shepherd will eat the meat of the fattest sheep and tear off their hooves. 17 Doom is
certain for this worthless shepherd who abandons the flock! The sword will cut his arm and pierce his
right eye! His arm will become useless, and his right eye completely blind! quot; The commentary
Obadiah through Malachi begins by commenting on the ambiguous nature of the passage. This vague
language makes it very difficult to interpret; thus the details remain elusive. The author feels that this
passage goes in accordance with the earlier situation described in Zechariah 10:3. In both passages it
is made clear that the leaders (shepherds) of Israel have made the Lord angry. Zechariah is describing
the social disorder and the peoples dishonesty toward each other that has overwhelmed the community
before it will be restored by God. This commentary is certain that the doomed flock is in fact Israel,
but is unsure whom the sheep merchants represent. Their guess is that they may be the workers in the
temple who have hired Zechariah. The shepherd is understood as symbolizing a ruling, most likely a
prophetic one. Zechariah is telling his audience that Israel is in total disarray and the leaders aren t
doing anything to help, in fact some are making the situation worse. God is permitting the corruption
by sitting on His hands. While doing so, he stresses the need for repentance so the corrupt community
may be restored. The prophet

Jewish Immigration In Argentina Essay
Argentina, as the second largest country in Latin America, contains approximately 42 million
individuals. Containing over 181,000 Jews, Argentina obtains the largest Jewish community in the
region. From unrestricted immigration policies to the quartering of Nazi criminals in Argentina, there
had been a wide spectrum of events that Argentina s Jews have endured. They have persevered
through both seasons of coexistence and seasons of heightened anti Semitism prejudice,
discrimination and hatred of Jews as a national, ethnic, religious or racial group. It all began in 1492
when Father Tomas de Torquemada expelled all Jews from Spain due to the fear of Judaism
influencing new Christian converts in Spain. Facing religious oppression, they were forced to flee, and
many consequently landed in Argentina. These secret Jews (also known as conversos) fused into the
Argentine population, many forsaking Judaism altogether, leaving a small amount of Jews left in
Argentina by the mid 1800 s. In 1810, President Bernardino Rivadavia set a foundation of freedom
and respect for Jews by implementing policies promoting liberated immigration and recognition of
human rights; he befittingly annulled the Inquisition which was formally depriving Jews of their
freedom. With this tolerant environment came another influx of Jewish immigration .The third ...

Human Beings Possess A Distinct Consciousness
Feuerbach first says that since human beings have religion and animals don t, there must be something
that human beings possess that essentially differentiates them from animals. Human beings possess a
distinctive consciousness which he calls species consciousness that animals don t possess. In other
words, a man that possesses a species consciousness he is capable to take its own essential nature as
an object of thought. In addition, the human individual has the capacity of thought which means that
he can engage himself in an internal dialogue and thus the human individual stands a relation to his
species. When a human being is conscious of himself as a human, he is also conscious that he is a
being that is able to feel, to think and to will. In other words, the three mental faculties that Feuebarch
identifies as crucial in the development of Christian consciousness are reason, will and affection.
Furthermore, reason, will and affection are absolute perfections of the human. However, they are not
powers that human beings possess, they are rather constituent elements of his nature . For example,
those constituent of the human beings manifest themselves when an individual is moved by the
emotions expressed by music; when an individual feels the desire to gain knowledge; when the
conscience of an individual dictates him to moderate his desires in order to avoid limiting other s
freedom.
Moreover, the human individual recognizes himself as an intellectually, morally,

Distributing Organs
Distributing the organs among the patients should be done in an ethical way. Not everyone in need of
an organ transplant gets what is needed for him because there is a shortage in organ availability.
Actually, there should be a fair distribution plan and everyone should be aware of it. Most likely there
are two types of distributive rightness. The first type is called equal access, which means the available
organs should be fairly divided among the waited patients no matter the sex or the race, and the
waiting time length should be considered. The first on the list be treated first. Another type of
distributive justice is called maximum benefit, which means that the doctor give the priority to the
patient who the doctor sees that he/she will live longer or the transplantation will be successful. It is a
way to avoid wasting the organs because they are rare. UNOS encourages the transplant centers in the
United States to use those methods in distributive the organs: the medical need, probability of success,
and time on the waiting list. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many arguments that shows it has no fairness between the patients simply because no one
has the ability to determine how long the transplanted patient will live after the surgery. How many
years the organ will function. I believe that the second type is an unethical issue in the distribution
because there is no equality between people, and it gives its back to the older people, and not giving
them the opportunity to get the organ they are needed for. as a result, they may lose their

Sports have always been a major aspect of my life. My passion stems from my own parents who
played sports throughout their lives and encouraged their children to do so. Many of my earliest
memories are of me watching my brother play little league baseball and wanting nothing more than to
be on the field with him. This desire was what prompted me to sign up for softball. I have played
softball since the 3rd grade. Although this may sound cliché, it really has taught me the importance of
working as a team. One player cannot win the game, it takes the team to throw a runner out at first or
sacrifice bunt in order to score a run. From a leadership perspective, I have learned that in order to be
a good leader, you must lead by example first. It

Booker s Influence On Jesus
UNLIKE THE TWELVE, he never left Jerusalem. History says he was appointed as overseer there by
the apostles. Not only did he not leave Jerusalem, but surely he was the most Jewish of the apostles.
(James is called an apostle in Scripture e.g., Gal. 1:19 but he was not one of the twelve.)
While he acknowledged that the Gentiles did not need to keep the Law, he was always the one most
on the side of the Law. Peter refused to eat with Gentiles out of fear of James (Gal. 2:11 12), and
James asked Paul to buy the sacrifices for men about to take a Nazirite vow (and Paul complied Acts
21:18 26). James remained the leader of the Jerusalem church until his death around A.D. 69. There is
no indication that he followed Jesus at all during Jesus earthly lifetime. After the resurrection,

After all, it would be hard for any of us to be convinced that our big brother is the creator of the world.

After a while, James influence became so strong that even some of the rulers believed, which horrified
the scribes and Pharisees. They became afraid that soon the people would be flocking to Jesus as the

Somehow, perhaps because of his strict observance of the Law, the Pharisees thought they could get
James to discourage the people from believing. They asked him to stand at the pinnacle of the temple

The Importance Of Aerobic Life On Earth Essay
Introduction:
Aerobic life on earth is only possible thanks to the oxygen produced by the cellular respiration of
plants and other photosynthetic organisms. This crucial service was recently demonstrated in a 2012
study by Martin et al. titled A paradigm of fragile Earth in Priestley s bell jar. The experiment was
based off of Priestley s now famous bell jar experiment where Priestley first placed a mouse in a
sealed jar without plant life, leading to the mouse s eventual asphyxiation, and placed another mouse
in a sealed jar this time with the addition of mint sprigs. This second mouse survived unscathed and in
an effort to replicate this experiment on a large scale Martin et al. s study focused on keeping a healthy
47 year old man in a small, well lit, and sealed greenhouse filled with a variety of plants for 48 hours.
Their experiment was a success and the oxygen content in the greenhouse actually rose from a
deliberately reduced initial concentration of 12.4 % O2 to an 18.1 % concentration more
representative of our atmosphere.
In our study we sought to compare the oxygen output of three different types of photosynthetic
organisms, a strain of pea plant, a lichen, and an Elodea sp. to find which species yielded the most
oxygen per gram of mass. We hope that the information acquired in our study can be used in a similar
way to Martin et al. s study and hope it will be of especial service those seeking to transport or keep
aerobic organisms in confined spaces,

The Sermon On The Exodus
In the book of Exodus, we see how God takes the children of Israel out of Egypt, He Baptizes them in
the Red Sea, leads them through the desert for forty years, works signs and wonders, and he
personally meets them at the top of a mountain where he gives his Law (Ex 13:16; 14:16; Jos 5:6; Ex

the Jordan River, goes to the desert for forty days, works signs and wonders, and finds himself
personally with Israel on a hill where he delivers this same Law but amplifies (Mt 2:20; 3:13; 4:1 24;
5:1). Jesus walked through the history of Israel, and in it all the promises of God s covenant with
Israel were fulfilled. The Sermon on the Mount Is quite simply the most celebrated discourse by Jesus
of Nazareth, the incarnate Word. His words influenced his immediate listeners. However, it is not just
about listening to this sermon; we also must apply it. We will see what Jesus said in the Sermon on the
Mount and how we can apply his words to our lives. The beatitudes are the crowning achievement in
the Christian s life on earth. And since the world cannot be transformed or offered to God without the
spirit of the beatitudes, therefore, we must also try hard to assimilate it so that in this way our life,
labors, and trials make us worshipers that in every place we act saintly and consecrate the world to
God. This page of the Gospel of Saint Matthew expresses admirably all the elevation

The Observation Of Elephants
What species performs burials, has the ability to cry, and form many complex relationships throughout
their lives? Elephants. Since many individuals might have guessed humans or primates first, this one
question shows the complexity of this species. Transition This paper tries to answer one main
question: How does elephant behavior, both in captive and wild settings, provide data that can lead to
evidence based practices for building captive enclosures, daily activities, and help with conservation
practices, both in captivity and in the wild. For this discussion, I am going to focus on the family,
Elephantidae, as a whole. Though some might argue that the genus Loxodonta (African) and Maximus
(Asian) should be analyzed separately, I find the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is hard to create and provide hard evidence to support this ideal when there is not a linguistic way to
communicate between humans and other species. For the purposes of this discussion I will use Breed
and Moore s definition: Cognition is the ability of an animal to separate itself from the moment in
which it is living and to contemplate the past, predict the future, and act accordingly (2016). Cognition
experiments on elephants did not begin until the late 1950 s, starting with Rensch s study on memory.
Since than scientist s have tested/ studied problem solving, rituals, emotions, deception, casual
reasoning, tool making, and tool use within elephants with many having positive results (Plotnik et al.,
2010). One aspect of cognition that has been tested in many primates in the recent years is the mirror
self recognition test; this is considered the basic level of cognition. Plotnik and colleagues completed
this test with three female elephants at the Bronx Zoo (2010). This test involves three stages, where
each shows a level of recognition. Though none of the elephants passed the mark part of the test, they
showed many other characteristics that indicated self recognition (that was in other species like
chimpanzees and bottle nose dolphins). However, the discrepancy could be due to the way elephants
identify one another: through touch, sounds, and smell, which a mirror cannot replicate (Plotnik et

Pre-Kingdom Hawaii
Hawaiian Culture went through many rapid changes between the arrival of the first Europeans in the
late 1700s and the fall of the Kingdom in 1893. With the quick transition from many Chiefdoms to a
European styled monarchy, then lastly being enveloped by a larger democracy, the Hawaiian people
experienced significant and sudden changes in their social relations of production. First a description
of pre kingdom Hawaii to the unifying conquests of the first Hawaiian king, Kamehameha, will be
looked at analyzing the social relations of production. This is followed by a similar analysis of The
Kingdom of Hawaii and how the social relations of production where effected by the conquest. The

As the barkcloth was produced by the women but intended for use by both men and women. The
barkcloth was utilized to create malo for men and pa u for women, or loincloths and skirts. The
barkcloth when given as tribute had to go through another differentiating step. As the animals given to
the Ali i needed to be blessed before consumption the barkcloth had to undergo a process of
meditation by men who also stored and were responsible for distributing them. For the Chief, the
surplus tribute given from far away, represented the extent of his power and influence, and as these
goods went through the hands of lesser chiefs they showed how expansive the Chiefs network of
people was and thereby his own greatness (Sahlins 1992: Pg:28). The Maka ainana however would

from a few days to weeks but these trips were rare (Sahlins 1992: pg. 29). The amount of recorded

It s Time To End Poverty In The United States
Throughout years poverty has been an ongoing situation that has only been increasing throughout the
years. Many efforts have been issued by the government over the situation; but yet many of those
efforts have failed to succeed. Increased dependency is the only long term impact that government
efforts have had on poverty. By solving poverty the government could make the economy grow more
for everyone , because many people would be going back into the workforce. The government has a
responsibility to end poverty through providing education, better programs, and jobs.
Poverty is the condition of being unable to obtain socially money or possessions. Poverty has been

Their are some drawbacks to ending poverty; If the government were to end poverty in the united
states it would take a lot of time and money. Their would also be many arguments over the topic
between wealthy people and poor people because the wealthier people would not benefit from it.
Which would eventually lead to a communism because if they were to solve poverty throughout the
united states there would have to be a tax implemented for it. Which is where the argument would lead
to; the tax that the people would have to pay. There would also be arguments over blaming the poor
because people against the situation would make the argument of it being the individual s fault for
putting themselves in a position like the one they are in. Overall solving poverty has its pros and cons.
Its pros would be that it would give many people a better life and by providing education; they can
have the opportunity to get better jobs. Solving poverty would also bring our economy closer together.
The cons of solving poverty would be that it would take a lot of time ,money and it would lead to

A Dream Deferred By Langston Hughes Meaning
After poetry is written, published, and circulated, analysis of the poem must take place. It unveils and
discusses the themes, figures of speech, word placement, and flow of the piece, and A Dream
Deferred, is no exception. In Langston Hughes s poem, A Dream Deferred, the theme is that no really
knows to dreams if they are not reached, and very realistic figures of speech help convey this idea; the
poem can be surprisingly related to Mr. Hughes s life through the subtitle and quotes from Langston
himself. The meaning of, A Dream Deferred, is that no one really knows what happens to dreams that
are not fulfilled. The poem starts with the line, What happens to a dream deferred? and this plainly
asks what happens to dreams that have not been paid attention to. The next line in the poem is, Does it
dry up like a raisin in the sun or fester like a sore and then run? meaning does a dream simply wither
away until it is no longer prevalent, or does it sit and stew until it becomes unbearable enough that it is
fulfilled out of convenience. The following stanza is, Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar
over like a syrupy sweet. This means that dreams could possibly be attainable, but people put them on
the figurative back burner making them rot and smell like a constant reminder. A scholarly review
written by Marie Rose Napierkowski proves my point by saying, With the smell of rotten meat,
Hughes suggests that dreams deferred will pester one

Assess The Impact Of Globalization On The Chinese Economy
Globalization is a process that refers to the increased integration between different countries and
economies as well as the increased impact of international influences on all aspects of life and
economic activity. Over the last 50 years, globalization has had a tremendous impact on the Chinese
economy. The impacts brought forth by globalization can be both positive and negative and effect both
economic performance, economic growth and the development of China s economy. Globalization is
the main factor responsible for China s significant growth that has taken place over the last two
decades. However, globalization itself is not entirely responsible. The Chinese economy has also
implemented strategies which have been very effective in promoting economic growth and
development. These strategies include the implantation of Open door policy , Reformation of China s
agricultural system and joining the World Trade Organisation.
The impact of globalization on the Chinese economy can be seen through the increase in economic
performance. Over the last two decades, the Chinese economy has experienced significant economic
growth due to globalization. Globalization is responsible for reducing the barriers to trade and
increasing the integration between different countries and economies. The reduction of trade barriers
as well as the increased integration between different countries and economies resulted in an increase
in foreign investment and international trading which leads

Abstract
During this assignment I will talk about three types of Work of Art from three different artists from the
Baroque period through the postmodern era. 1). Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio; 2) Rembrandt
van Rijn; and 3) Peter Paul Rubens, these three artists were known for their religious theme in their art
work. The naturalism that was visibly demonstrated in each of the artist work with high contrast of
lighting that noticeably appeared in these paintings. Each artist was well known and respected for their
work.
The three artists Works of Art that I have chosen are: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Until the late 19th century many biographers and art scholars deliberately ignored Caravaggio work.
Some people felt as if his work was to natural or just ordinary. (Sayre, 2010) His work of art was
characterized by displaying weakness or humankind. Sometime people had a difficult time trying to
figure out if his painting was religious or not. In fact the contrast in his paintings between light and
dark tones was evident in the spiritual content and its representation in the painting. (Sayre, 2010)
Caravaggio became ill on a beach in Port Ercole. Caravaggio passed away July 18, 1610 after battling
with malaria which he fought to overcome.
Rembrandt van Rijn: The Resurrection of Christ c. 1635 39 (Oil on Canvas)
Description of Rembrandt Work of Art
The Resurrection of Christ is from the Baroque period. This work of art portrays the sense of dramatic
antagonism that Caravaggio achieved by manipulating light across full range of tones, changing the
intensity and transforming its radiance this was done so that every beam and shadow expressed a
dissimilar emotional content. (Sayre, 2010) In Rembrandt painting he focused on using emotional
contrast between light and dark tones to emphasize the emotional difference. Here you can see pure
light radiating out of the tomb of darkness. Christ himself begins to rise from the tomb in the light of

Bleacher Couch Man Analysis
Jess Walter s short story, Bleacher Couch Man is about a 42 year old man named Cole Griffith. He has
two kids, Rita and Alexandra, who he no longer visits due to his divorce with their mother, Andrea. He
lives in a loft apartment just above a furniture store with leftover food scattered around every room,
and to make facts worse, he doesn t even have his own bed; instead he sleeps on a three decker
bleacher couch. A majority of Cole s day to day life consists of him playing basketball with other
middle aged men who are just as sizable losers as him, because each one of them chose basketball and
drinking over a real occupation. Each game commonly results in a loss and a traditional trip to the
local bar. Cole never comes to terms with how sorrowful his life really is until his ex wife, Andrea, ...

something he hadn t done in quite some time. He arrives to Andrea s house right at 6 with his

that ended due to his disrespect towards Claire s father. As soon as Cole left the dinner, tears fall from
his eyes, and he immediately calls Claire to invite her and her father over to

The Role Of Women In House On Mango Street By Sandra Cisneros
Mouse traps, they aren t the most pleasant thought but it gets a point across. Tiptoeing and jumping
are what people do when attempting to no sett off the mouse traps, so imagine penniless women
having to tiptoe around circumstances almost everyday of their lives that would get them sucked into
bad situations. In Sandra Cisneros book, House on Mango Street , well thought out motifs and
symbolisms become very useful in order to convey the expectations of women in a poor community
make the women more susceptible to becoming trapped inside this environment.
The expectations of the women in House on Mango Street repeats throughout the story in the form of
shoes. One very prominent vignette is The Family of Little Feet where Esperanza, Rachel, and Lucy
are all given high heeled shoes to try on, they excitedly decide to walk outside in them because the
heels made them feel powerful and mature. The girls walking around doesn t result well due to
multiple men sexualizing them though, especially when a man looks at them and scrutinizes their
appearance, Them are dangerous, he says. You girls too young to be wearing shoes like that. Take
them shoes off before I call the cops, but we just run (Cisneros 41). This along with a bum who asks
for a kiss and a boy who shouts at them to lead him to heaven, give Esperanza, Lucy, and Rachel a
small glimpse of what the men see them as sexual objects. As much as people want others opinions to
be irrelevant, it still inevitably takes a

Advantage And Disadvantages Of Sunscreens
i) Sunscreen products:
What are sunscreens?
Sunscreens are products that combine multiple ingredients that help prevent the sun s ultraviolet (UV)
radiation from reaching the skin. Understanding UV radiation:
UV radiation is an electromagnetic radiation that reaches the earth from the sun. It is classified into
UVA, UVB and UVC according to their wavelength. UVC is usually absorbed by the ozone layer not
penetrating to earth while UVA and UVB penetrate the ozone layer and play an important role in skin
photo aging, sun burns and skin cancer. Most of the UVB IS filtered by the atmosphere. UVB can only
cause damage to the epidermal layers as it cannot perpetrate beyond the superficial skin layers. UVB
is responsible chiefly for skins reddening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the sunburn protection increases by increasing the SPF value. There is a misconception stating that
SPF is related to time of solar exposure not to the amount which is not true. Although solar energy
amount and solar exposure time are related, other factors impact the amount as an example the
intensity. (A 9:00a.m one hour exposure is equal to 1:00 p.m. 15 minutes exposure). In general, more
frequent reapplication is associated with decreased absorption of solar radiation and more protection.
So SPF is a relative measure of the amount of sunburn protection provided by sunscreens. It isn t a
reflection of time.
Sunscreen history and timeline:
It all started with the ancient civilizations used plant products to protect themselves from the sun
damage. Ancient Romans used olive oil while ancient Egyptians used extracts of jasmine and rice
plants that are still used in some products today. Zinc oxide creams have always been popular for
thousands of years but it was an opaque paste that left an unacceptable appearance in the skin which
led to the decrease in its use. It was popularly used as a sunburn preventative.
1928 Introduction of the first chemical sunscreen a combination of UVB absorbers benzyl salicylate
and benzyl

Theme Of Animalism In Animal Farm
I read a book called, Animal Farm written by George Orwell. The book is about animals on a farm
who are overworked, and aren t treated well. Then, an insurgency made up of animals with pigs as
their leaders, rebel against Mr.Jones (owner of the farm) by driving him off his farm. The animals try
to make the perfect life for themselves, but that doesn t go as planned. Animal farm then, starts to fail.
The farm fails because of the pigs not being fair to the other animals, and the animals being too dumb
to realize it. The other animals made mistakes, by not speaking up when they thought something was
wrong. Animalism starts to fail because pigs start to make power grabs that screws the perfect life
vision the animals have. . These reasons and many more are why ... Show more content on

One reason animalism fails, is because of power grabs by animals. There are many examples of this
throughout the book. One power grab that failed animalism, was when the pigs take the milk and the
apples for themselves. So it was agreed without further argument that the milk and windfall apples
(and also the main crop of apples when they ripened) should be reserved for the pigs alone. (P.g 36)
This is unfair because the pigs being selfish, but they are the leader, it immediately grants them
permission to do so. This shows why animalism fails because the pigs don t do anything for the
wellbeing of animal farm, they do things only for themselves. Another example of a power grab is
when Napoleon (a pig) takes the puppies so that they will obey and protect him. It happened that
Jessie and Bluebell had both whelped soon after the hay harvest, giving birth between them to nine
sturdy puppies. As soon as they were weaned, Napoleon took them away from their mothers, saying
that he would make himself responsible for their education. He took them up into a loft which could
only be reached by a

Mothers Against Drunk Driving Laws
If drunk driving laws were stricter there would be fewer death rates for intoxication manslaughter
around the world. More than 17,500 Americans lost their lives in drunk driving accidents in 1993 and
another 1,200,000 were injured, according to Mothers against Drunk Driving. That is one death every
30 minutes, and an injury every 26 seconds. (USA today magazine p.8). Sadly, those deaths would be
preventable if we had more severe laws against this issue. Drivers are aware of the laws and
consequences, but they re not aware of how they are destroying families. Victims Family s entire lives

Why do some parents still have the limited biased experiences of their daughters not being able to take on the full plate of both pink and blue? As soon as it s midnight I start getting phone calls from my parents asking where am I at, and what time am I getting home. If I say I ll be home in an hour or so they flip out and tell me that I m a young lady and she be home no later than 12am. So I rush home because I m a descent young lady. Since the moment of birth we are placed on the dual track. A newborn is wrapped in a pink blanket emphasizing that the newborn is a female and a newborn wrapped in a blue blanket shows that the baby is a male. After this moment the newborn male or female are gender scripted. A female is typically on the pink side of the dual track expected to be sensitive, feminine, dependent and to stay home to clean the house and take care of her children. On the other hand, a male is on the blue side of the dual track and suppose to be strong, masculine, independent, head of the household, successful and aggressive. We are gender intensified three times in our lives, the first time is when we are born we are place on either the pink or blue side of the dual track emphasizing which track we belong to based on our gender. The second time is when we are beginning adolescence, during this time one is going through puberty and is in search for his or her identity leading to once again basing on one s genitalia, clarifying whether you are a female or a male. The third time is when a couple is going through a pregnancy, gender scripts are clear indicating that the female will be giving birth to the child therefore is expected to stay home, while the male is expected to provide and protect in all ways for his family. These expectations lead to why men and women are considered as the opposite sex, meaning that these two genders have no overlap what so ever. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Content Reading Inferences This week s reading covers many areas of content reading instruction such as the inferencing, word recognition, explicit instruction in comprehension, strategies to increase comprehension and retention, strategies to partner reading and content routine, and how to love and nurture our students with God s word. All these areas play a vital role in growing independent readers. Kaylene Beer pointed out several significant areas of reading comprehension that help students increase their fluency. Inferences is a skill that helps students with their understanding of written text. Content area teachers must model and give large amounts of practice for developing this skill. Bear also discussed in chapter eleven word recognition which has a direct connection with fluency and reading comprehension. Different modes of interviews are present and have been used for various reasons. This investigation delves into an analysis of the structured situational and nondirective interviews. Moreover, this investigation explores the benefits and the detriments of utilizing management assessment centers during a selection process. • 8. The Psychological Cost Of Children During The American... Lt. Col. Dave Grossman is a former army Ranger, paratrooper, and west point psychology professor. Grossman is a world renown expert in the field of human aggression and the psychology of combat (Grossman et. al, 2007). In his book, On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society, he talks about non firing rate. Non firing rate is the percentage of soldiers who freeze up during combat, and do not fire their weapon. There has been documentation of non firing rate dating back to 1863, during the American Civil War. There is even documentation to prove that both World War I and II soldiers displayed the same consistence in failing to fire their weapons; but why is this important? The weapons had the proficiency to kill, but the soldier holding the weapon did not. All the documentation of soldier s inability to fire their weapon indicates that there is a psychological power greater than military training (Gorssman et. al., 1995). This force acts as a blockade, preventing man from standing before man, and engaging in the conscious act of taking the life of a person. Even when faced with the decision to kill the man standing before him, or be killed, evidence shows that man will be killed before he kills (Grossman et. al., 1995). Thus, providing the evidence needed to indicate humans are not born with the capability to kill. Engaging in combat has taken a tole on the mental well being of the military service members. Mine and my father s death come not upon thee, Nor thine on me (5.2.322 324). Claudius also tried to redeem himself, after watching the Murder of Gonzago, Claudius conscience intensified. He realized the evil in his deed of killing his brother and even says a complete soliloquy about it. Oh, my offence is rank. It smells to heaven. It hath the primal eldest curse upon t, A brother s murder. Pray can I not. Though inclination be as sharp as will, My stronger guilt defeats my strong intent, And, like a man to double business bound, I stand in pause where I shall first begin, And both neglect. • 10. 4 Functions of Management The management process contains four basic functions; planning, organizing, leading and controlling. By using these key tools, one can create an organization as a whole consisting of unified parts acting in harmony to achieve goals, both successfully and proficiently. It is vital for an organization manager to implement these functions to ensure the success of the company. The functions of management are described, according to (Bateman, Snell, 2004) as follows: Planning is specifying the goals to be achieved and deciding in advance the appropriate actions needed to achieve those goals. Planning activities include analyzing current situations, anticipating the future, determining objectives, deciding in what types of activities the company ... Our manager has to also organize the rollout. How are we going to get to the new location and what is the time frame which this needs to be completed. Leading is going to also be an important factor with this project. Our manager needs to motivate us to actually wanting to work very late on Friday and all day Saturday. • 11. The Influences of Niccolò Machiavelli’s The Prince on... Richard the Third was a power hungry tyrant, willing to do whatever it took to become the most powerful man in the land. He lied, schemed, and ran down anyone who stumbled across his highway to fame and fortune. His exploits, though morally deplorable, were highly successful for him up until his fateful end. Many of his actions were taken straight from Niccolò Machiavelli s The Prince, which is famous for its hard hearted philosophies on achieving power and ruling. Richard followed Machiavelli s advice in that he was ruthless and careful to cover his tracks, but he failed to heed one of his warnings: he made himself unpopular. Richard was pushed far back in the line to the throne, being a third child and the present King already having his own heirs. To even have a chance at ruling, his brothers and the oldest brother s children would have to be killed. Richard saw to this quickly and methodically, as if murdering family and children were completely natural to him. Near the end he did recognize that what he had done was a damnable deed, but he consoled himself by saying that it was a neccisary evil for him to ascend the throne. By using this justification, he was able to kill anyone who he thought was a threat to his kingship. Machiavelli advised his Prince that if he wanted to gain a position that didn t belong to him, he would have to be ready to kill the defenders of that space. • 12. Violence In Video Games To a lazy onlooker, violence in art has no other meaning than that of a primal nature. The use of violence in abstraction is akin to the use of color in a painting. Video games and films in particular are subject to such scrutiny as the use of violence is common in these mediums. The point of art such as these is to express ideas, provide entertainment, and persuade the audience to think. Therefore, it is absurd to think that video games and movies could invoke violent feelings onto someone. There is no concrete evidence that supports the claim that society is negatively affected by violence in video games and movies. The evidence that those of the opposite opinion consistently cite are weak examples that can simply be attributed to other things than entertainment. For instance, the Columbine shooters played video games frequently and this is used as one piece of qualitative data that many opposition members cite. However, this cannot be used when describing the greater populace; the Virginia Tech shooter never played video games and was seen as strange for not doing so by his peers. Another typical point that the U.S. has the highest homicide rate in the world and Americans have significant video game use. However, the Japanese are extremely avid gamers, more so than Americans, and have an annual homicide rate close to zero. There is, however, no doubt that many forms of media, written or visual are bloody. As Dr. Eugene Beresin says in a research article, Consider one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Zechariah Essay Zechariah Zechariah is one of the Minor Prophets of the Old Testament. His book is located between the books of Haggai and Malachi. Zechariah is thought to have preached from about 520 518 B.C. The book of Zechariah deals with the restoration of Jerusalem, the Temple, and God s people. Chapter 11 verses 4 17, which is a story of two shepherds, is one of the most difficult passages in the Old Testament to understand. From the New Living Translation, the passage reads as follows: 4 This is what the LORD my God says: quot;Go and care for a flock that is intended for slaughter. 5 The buyers will slaughter their sheep without remorse. The sellers will say, Praise the LORD, I am now rich! Even the shepherds have no compassion for them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sword will cut his arm and pierce his right eye! His arm will become useless, and his right eye completely blind! quot; The commentary Obadiah through Malachi begins by commenting on the ambiguous nature of the passage. This vague language makes it very difficult to interpret; thus the details remain elusive. The author feels that this passage goes in accordance with the earlier situation described in Zechariah 10:3. In both passages it is made clear that the leaders (shepherds) of Israel have made the Lord angry. Zechariah is describing the social disorder and the peoples dishonesty toward each other that has overwhelmed the community before it will be restored by God. This commentary is certain that the doomed flock is in fact Israel, but is unsure whom the sheep merchants represent. Their guess is that they may be the workers in the temple who have hired Zechariah. The shepherd is understood as symbolizing a ruling, most likely a prophetic one. Zechariah is telling his audience that Israel is in total disarray and the leaders aren t doing anything to help, in fact some are making the situation worse. God is permitting the corruption by sitting on His hands. While doing so, he stresses the need for repentance so the corrupt community may be restored. The prophet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Jewish Immigration In Argentina Essay Argentina, as the second largest country in Latin America, contains approximately 42 million individuals. Containing over 181,000 Jews, Argentina obtains the largest Jewish community in the region. From unrestricted immigration policies to the quartering of Nazi criminals in Argentina, there had been a wide spectrum of events that Argentina s Jews have endured. They have persevered through both seasons of coexistence and seasons of heightened anti Semitism prejudice, discrimination and hatred of Jews as a national, ethnic, religious or racial group. It all began in 1492 when Father Tomas de Torquemada expelled all Jews from Spain due to the fear of Judaism influencing new Christian converts in Spain. Facing religious oppression, they were forced to flee, and many consequently landed in Argentina. These secret Jews (also known as conversos) fused into the Argentine population, many forsaking Judaism altogether, leaving a small amount of Jews left in Argentina by the mid 1800 s. In 1810, President Bernardino Rivadavia set a foundation of freedom and respect for Jews by implementing policies promoting liberated immigration and recognition of human rights; he befittingly annulled the Inquisition which was formally depriving Jews of their freedom. Human Beings Possess A Distinct Consciousness Feuerbach first says that since human beings have religion and animals don t, there must be something that human beings possess that essentially differentiates them from animals. Human beings possess a distinctive consciousness which he calls species consciousness that animals don t possess. In other words, a man that possesses a species consciousness he is capable to take its own essential nature as an object of thought. In addition, the human individual has the capacity of thought which means that he can engage himself in an internal dialogue and thus the human individual stands a relation to his species. When a human being is conscious of himself as a human, he is also conscious that he is a being that is able to feel, to think and to will. In other words, the three mental faculties that Feuebarch identifies as crucial in the development of Christian consciousness are reason, will and affection. Furthermore, reason, will and affection are absolute perfections of the human. However, they are not powers that human beings possess, they are rather constituent elements of his nature . For example, those constituent of the human beings manifest themselves when an individual is moved by the emotions expressed by music; when an individual feels the desire to gain knowledge; when the conscience of an individual dictates him to moderate his desires in order to avoid limiting other s freedom. Moreover, the human individual recognizes himself as an intellectually, morally, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not everyone in need of an organ transplant gets what is needed for him because there is a shortage in organ availability. Actually, there should be a fair distribution plan and everyone should be aware of it. Most likely there are two types of distributive rightness. The first type is called equal access, which means the available organs should be fairly divided among the waited patients no matter the sex or the race, and the waiting time length should be considered. The first on the list be treated first. Another type of distributive justice is called maximum benefit, which means that the doctor give the priority to the patient who the doctor sees that he/she will live longer or the transplantation will be successful. It is a way to avoid wasting the organs because they are rare. UNOS encourages the transplant centers in the United States to use those methods in distributive the organs: the medical need, probability of success, and time on the waiting list. ... My passion stems from my own parents who played sports throughout their lives and encouraged their children to do so. Many of my earliest memories are of me watching my brother play little league baseball and wanting nothing more than to be on the field with him. This desire was what prompted me to sign up for softball. I have played softball since the 3rd grade. Although this may sound cliché, it really has taught me the importance of working as a team. One player cannot win the game, it takes the team to throw a runner out at first or sacrifice bunt in order to score a run. Not only did he not leave Jerusalem, but surely he was the most Jewish of the apostles. (James is called an apostle in Scripture e.g., Gal. 1:19 but he was not one of the twelve.) While he acknowledged that the Gentiles did not need to keep the Law, he was always the one most on the side of the Law. Peter refused to eat with Gentiles out of fear of James (Gal. 2:11 12), and James asked Paul to buy the sacrifices for men about to take a Nazirite vow (and Paul complied Acts 21:18 26). James remained the leader of the Jerusalem church until his death around A.D. 69. There is no indication that he followed Jesus at all during Jesus earthly lifetime. They became afraid that soon the people would be flocking to Jesus as the Christ. Somehow, perhaps because of his strict observance of the Law, the Pharisees thought they could get James to discourage the people from believing. They asked him to stand at the pinnacle of the temple on Passover and speak and sure enough James agreed. • 19. The Importance Of Aerobic Life On Earth Essay Introduction: Aerobic life on earth is only possible thanks to the oxygen produced by the cellular respiration of plants and other photosynthetic organisms. This crucial service was recently demonstrated in a 2012 study by Martin et al. titled A paradigm of fragile Earth in Priestley s bell jar. The experiment was based off of Priestley s now famous bell jar experiment where Priestley first placed a mouse in a sealed jar without plant life, leading to the mouse s eventual asphyxiation, and placed another mouse in a sealed jar this time with the addition of mint sprigs. This second mouse survived unscathed and in an effort to replicate this experiment on a large scale Martin et al. s study focused on keeping a healthy 47 year old man in a small, well lit, and sealed greenhouse filled with a variety of plants for 48 hours. Their experiment was a success and the oxygen content in the greenhouse actually rose from a deliberately reduced initial concentration of 12.4 % O2 to an 18.1 % concentration more representative of our atmosphere. In our study we sought to compare the oxygen output of three different types of photosynthetic organisms, a strain of pea plant, a lichen, and an Elodea sp. to find which species yielded the most oxygen per gram of mass. We hope that the information acquired in our study can be used in a similar way to Martin et al. s study and hope it will be of especial service those seeking to transport or keep aerobic organisms in confined spaces, ... The Sermon On The Exodus In the book of Exodus, we see how God takes the children of Israel out of Egypt, He Baptizes them in the Red Sea, leads them through the desert for forty years, works signs and wonders, and he personally meets them at the top of a mountain where he gives his Law (Ex 13:16; 14:16; Jos 5:6; Ex 16:4; 20:1 17 TNOAB). Plotnik and colleagues completed this test with three female elephants at the Bronx Zoo (2010). This test involves three stages, where each shows a level of recognition. Though none of the elephants passed the mark part of the test, they showed many other characteristics that indicated self recognition (that was in other species like chimpanzees and bottle nose dolphins). • 26. A Dream Deferred By Langston Hughes Meaning After poetry is written, published, and circulated, analysis of the poem must take place. It unveils and discusses the themes, figures of speech, word placement, and flow of the piece, and A Dream Deferred, is no exception. In Langston Hughes s poem, A Dream Deferred, the theme is that no really knows to dreams if they are not reached, and very realistic figures of speech help convey this idea; the poem can be surprisingly related to Mr. Hughes s life through the subtitle and quotes from Langston himself. The meaning of, A Dream Deferred, is that no one really knows what happens to dreams that are not fulfilled. The poem starts with the line, What happens to a dream deferred? and this plainly asks what happens to dreams that have not been paid attention to. The next line in the poem is, Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun or fester like a sore and then run? meaning does a dream simply wither away until it is no longer prevalent, or does it sit and stew until it becomes unbearable enough that it is fulfilled out of convenience. The following stanza is, Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar over like a syrupy sweet. This means that dreams could possibly be attainable, but people put them on the figurative back burner making them rot and smell like a constant reminder. A scholarly review written by Marie Rose Napierkowski proves my point by saying, With the smell of rotten meat, Hughes suggests that dreams deferred will pester one ...
