The Tell Tale Heart Human Instinct
The bases of human instinct are profound into its history and encounters. At the point when in people
s own particular lives they are to discover the premise of human instinct, they should look to their
infant years, the developmental years. Presently take for instance in the event that an infant is in the
wild or in high class, all around mannered, affluent family. The human instinct of the infant in the wild
will be precisely that, wild and riotous. While then again the infant in the all around mannered society
will be very much mannered and moralistic. Human instinct is characterized by the qualities that are
taught and the qualities that society characterizes. Throughout these short stories culture, ethics, and
characteristics are portrayed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More often than not there is an obscure parity and the wickedness is quelled; be that as it may, when
there is a movement, for reasons unknown, the dim or insidiousness side of human instinct can
surface. In human nature often times a person wants to rid their conscious of ill thoughts often times
by committing violent acts. In The Tell Tale Heart, the storyteller chooses to kill this pulse. He plans
to execute his thoughts of the eye, I made up my mind to take the life of the old man and thus rid
myself of the eye forever (Poe 1843). The storyteller is threatened by the conferred ethics of the old
man. This can be reached out into the bigger representation of the contention in mankind and the
conferred profound quality of the heart inside. Mankind in strife with itself shows a mystery; is this
inner voice regular, as well as the restriction to it, is additionally common. Humans often value their
picture and practical status is more vital than their honesty. Poe sets up his stories in the space between
the assurance of brutality in humankind and the questionable way of where this savagery originates
from. In The Tell Tale Heart, the wrongdoing itself is portrayed in computed subtle element for the
reader to appreciate, yet the setting, inspiration, and general work are covered up. The Tell Tale Heart
displays a novel affirmation that the value of other s opinion exists; How, then, am I mad? Hearken!
and observe how healthily how calmly I can tell you the whole story (Poe 1843). Here the narrator is
trying to prove to the readers that he is not insane. He would rather tell the readers that he is sane and
have them on his side rather than proving he is not insane. Human instinct includes focusing on
insignificant things, in the narrator s case, an eyeball. Putting his potential franticness aside, the
narrator focuses on the old man, and how angry he was with him over something as absurd as his

Minimal Risk
What We Know About Minimal Risk In the determination of risk, there are two major components for
IRBs to consider (BCEHI, 2013). The first component is the risk that may result from research, as
distinct from the risks that may be associated with the therapies that participants would endure if they
were not participating in research (U.S. Department of HHS). For example, in the calculation of risk
for a study that is measuring the effects of a brain operation on memory for the purpose of epilepsy
relief, only the risks associated with the memory test should be considered by the IRB (U.S.
Department of HHS). Thus, some research studies can present minimal risk even when higher risks
are associated with the therapeutic procedure (U.S. Department ... Show more content on

Vulnerability factors include, but are not limited to, the participant s mental, emotional, and cognitive
capacity, socio economic status, age, and the existence of power relationships (BCEHI, 2013). As the
federal regulation title 45 CFR part 46.111(b) stipulates: When some or all of the subjects are likely to
be vulnerable to coercion or undue influence, such as children, prisoners, pregnant women, mentally
disabled persons, or economically or educationally disadvantaged persons, additional safeguards have
been included in the study to protect the rights and welfare of these subjects. However, the National
Research Council (2014) asserts that because this definition does not differentiate between social and
research vulnerabilities, this definition encourages IRBs to estimate the research harms faced by any
population considered to be vulnerable. Therefore, the risk caused by the vulnerability of a group
should be examined in conjunction with the specific risks posed by the research (Fisher Goodman,
2009). This relationship between the continuum of risk level and participant vulnerability, which can
be used to determine if a study may require full IRB review, is provided in Figure 1. This means that
when a study s potential risk is being assessed, the harm that may be caused by the actual research
participation and the harm that may be caused by the situation or participant characteristics should be
uniquely contemplated (National Research Council, 2014). Thus, the current paper advocates for the
integration of considerations on the potential harm caused by the research procedures in conjunction
with participants

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tax Haven
A Tax Haven is defined as, a place that seeks to attract business by offering politically stable facilities
to help people or entities get around the rules, laws and regulations of jurisdictions elsewhere .
Tax havens also refer to countries which have a system of financial secrecy in place. It should be
noted that, financial secrecy can be used by foreign individuals to circumvent certain taxes (such as
inheritance tax on money, and income tax of the interest on the money you have on your bank
account. Because the requirement of paying taxes on these funds can not be transmitted, as the funds
themselves are invisible to the country the individual is from, such taxes can be avoided. Earnings
from income generated from real estate (i.e. by renting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
FACT: According to data compiled by the State Department, the CIA, the IRS, and the Financial
Action Task Force, low tax jurisdictions are less likely to engage in money laundering. This is likely
due to the fact that revelations of illicit activity would be very damaging to the reputation of small
economies, so there is a much greater incentive to weed out wrong doing. Moreover, criminals tend to
avoid taking stolen money offshore because cross border transactions raise red flags and create paper
trails .
 Tax havens encourage tax evasion.
FACT: Excessive tax burdens in welfare states such as France encourage tax evasion. This leads to
capital flight to places such as Hong Kong, Switzerland, the United States, and the Cayman Islands. If
French politicians do not like capital flight, they should lower France s oppressive tax rates. Moreover,
tax havens play a key role in protecting people victimized by crime, corruption, and ethnic or religious
persecution precisely by shielding them from venal governments .
 High tax jurisdictions are unable to compete with tax havens and therefore have little choice but to
push for protectionist policies in order to retain entrepreneurial talent and

Participation Awards Should Be Banned
The notion of participation awards in childhood activities have raised a spark debate; while awarding
each child with a uniform trophy supports equality, what s there to say about the detrimental effect on
motivation if everyone is labeled a winner? The expectation of an award or certificate, in conclusion
to any activity, is viewed as a guarantee; often, they serve as the sole motivation point for those
uninterested in the activity itself as they re aware they ll be a winner regardless. This inflated sense of
self worth brought upon by miniscule awards, most especially participation, leaves children
unprepared for adult life as a functioning member of society. While generous in thought, participation
awards support a distorted view of reality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In developing nations, there are winners and losers; there are people who succeed in life, and people
who simply fail. This is an accepted thought amongst nations such as Brazil, China, India, and
Lebanon. The culture of these nations believes that there are no rewards for doing what is expected of
you. Simply showing up does not warrant you an award of any kind, it s the unique work ethic and
efforts you push yourself to achieve that result in success. For example, the culture of India places a
high importance on education; there are no rewards in place for students that simply show up to class
every day, which is merely an expectation you must uphold. In the United States, school systems
reward their students with participation trophies at the end of the year for merely showing up! The
award culture in the U.S. has altered the expectation of success within the nation; the younger
generation feels they re entitled to much more than they are possibly responsible enough for. The
culture of Middle Eastern, and Asian nations execute an entirely different expectation of success;
awards are reserved for those who exhibit unique traits and actions, not to those that simply participate
by showing up. These up and coming nations are quickly replacing America in several industries,
which is perhaps due to award system they have in place that only celebrate those that work

Marketing Strategy At The North American Market
Strategy
As we close Q3, we move forward with our plan to expand our offices in the North American market.
Our next office expansion will take place in Chicago. The market potential in Chicago, for the
workhorse computer, is relatively high; in comparison to our initial other locations such as Los
Angeles and Toronto. According to market research, these markets have great potential to effectively
meet customer needs. The pricing strategy used for Workhorse, which is our first priority product in
the market, is to provide a technologically advanced computer at an affordable price. In addition, to a
good retail price, we will offer a $100 rebate as an incentive to purchase a Pentabytes workhorse
computer.
Brand Design
Our main objective is to increase market potential by designing brands attractive to Workhorse,
Traveler and Innovator segments. The executive team analyzed the customer needs and use pattern to
determine the design. Based on the research, our firm decided to add a new segment that targets a
different clientele. The strategy to design a desktop computer for our Workhorse customers was based
on their top three preferences of having a computer easy to use, but still does a wide variety of tasks at
a special price deal. We introduced a laptop for our Traveler segment. The idea of the design is to
provide a portable computer that features office applications. We realized how important is to
accommodate their portability concern. Our latest addition is a desktop

Theme Of Prejudice In 12 Angry Men
Back in 1957 MGM released a film directed by Sidney Lumet that is considered a masterpiece today
same as it was back then. There is a very good reason for that, this film has aged very well. It deals
with the same topics we have to deal with in today s society. Today it seems people are just as divided
as they were in the 50 s. That is what 12 Angry Men does so well, it handles the topic of prejudice.
How does it show this? 12 Angry Men shows us different jurors with different prejudices that are
revealed through their attitudes, beliefs, and words.
It is easy to spot prejudice through attitude because of the way they act around or talking about the
person or a community they have a prejudice about. Prejudice is an unjustified or incorrect attitude
(usually negative) towards an individual based solely on the individual s membership of a social group
(McLeod 1). In the film almost, everyone is ready to sentence an eighteen year old boy to death for
murder. Most do this just because of the evidence, but jurors three and ten have different attitudes
about the situation. Juror three has a different attitude because of his son and the relationship he
created there. He abused his son and now he has left him, the guilt he has is more than apparent
through his anger. Juror ten also shows anger and it is not apparent as to why until later when he starts
speaking.
The beliefs of the individual characters can say a lot about them because it reinforces their prejudices.

1800 s Locomotive Headlamp
The artifact shown in class is an 1800 s locomotive headlamp. The headlamp on the locomotive had
several purposes. One of the most important purposes was to make it easier for the driver to see in
front of the train and make sure they were not approaching any obstacles. The headlight was also used
to alert anyone ahead that the train was coming. There were several attempts and prototypes of the
locomotive headlamps. One that was used for some time after the civil war was a large box that was
almost two feet by two feet, with glass in the front. It was sometimes decorated to make it more
visually appealing, but it did not last. The one that became the most popular was much smaller and
round. To identify the headlamp engine numbers were stamped out of the metal and ... Show more

In the late 1800s many locomotive companies began using electric headlamps instead of oil lamps.
There were multiple problems that came with using the electric lights instead of oil. It was very
difficult to supply electric power when the train was in a station (Presentation Magazine). The light
was extremely bright and made it hard for the drivers of others trains to see when they were arriving at
the station. In the early 1900 s the arc lamp was invented and made it much easier for other train
drivers to see and it allowed people to safely cross. The headlamp shown in class was made using
black metal, possibly iron, with a glass plate in the front which allows the light to pass through it. The
glass is on a hinge so it could be opened and closed. The artifact relates to what we are learning
because the locomotive industry became one of the largest and most important industries in America
for a long time during and after the civil war. The trains were used to transport supplies to the troops
all throughout the war, and after the war they were used as transportation for people. There were many
investors in the trains that made huge amounts of

Over the past three years Chicago violent has kept at a steady rate causing terror and for a generation
to lose hope. According to the 2013 FBI Crime Report; someone is shot in Chicago every three hours
and 16 minutes, an individual dies from a gunshot every 18 hours. The black on back crime rate is
about 90%. In 2014 the FBI Crime Report, reported that even though Chicago s population is one
fourth of the size of New York, it has nearly five times the homicides. This year Chicago crime has
taken a turn for the worst, with a devastating murder that was truly shocked the nation and was a first

Trade Between Australia and China
Many products we use today are made in China. Trade between Australia and China has heightened in
the last couple of years. China has one of the world s largest economies. It has an increasing role in
shaping the world economy, accounting for a third of the increase in the world s gross domestic
product and imports for the period 2000 to 2003 (The Economist 2004). It is also home to a population
of 1.3 billion inhabitants, consuming a variety of goods from food items to luxury commodities, toys,
clothing, gifts, most car parts and many more things Australia benefits from. For non agricultural
goods, Australian import tariffs are generally low. The most notable exceptions are on motor vehicles
and textiles, clothing and footwear imports. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Labour costs are lower, and more importantly, labour is largely subservient.
In contrast, China s merchandise exports to Australia are mainly labour intensive manufactures, with
the major categories being textile, clothing and footwear products, as well as machinery and
electronics. Together these items amounted to $4 billion in 2003, around 70 per cent of China s
exports to Australia. China s gross domestic product has been growing annually at 7 per cent on
average over the past five years, reaching $6.4 trillion (in purchasing power parity index) in 2003 (
Anderson K., 1995). China s integration into the world economy through trade was one of the key
drivers of this strong economic growth. China has adopted measures to transform its economy from a
centrally planned system to a more market oriented one. These measures included the opening of
China s economy to world trade. Many of the Australian companies such as Black Decker, makes
many of its power tools and locks in a factory it owns in Suzhou, outside Shanghai, and a separate
50/50 joint venture plant in Shenzhen, southern China s manufacturing boomtown. Ford Motor also
planned to buy up to $3 billion worth of auto parts from Chinese suppliers. Wal Mart also spends more
than $18 billion annually on products made in China (D. Uren, The Australian News, 2008).

Comparison Of Howl And Song Of Myself
Howl by Ginsberg and Song of Myself by Whitman, have different and similar variances on the take
of the world. Howl is more technical and gets straight to the point of the world whereas Song of
Myself starts off with a happier side of the world. Whitman describes world as heaven and Ginsberg
describes live as dark and evil. Where Whitman is less harsh and Ginsberg is very harsh. Also,
Ginsberg uses a raw language to describe the world in a deeper perspective. In Song of Myself ,
Whitman describes the world as a hopeful place in which a lot can be done. He states, The atmosphere

Essay about Marital Differences between India and the...
marriages that occur in India and the United States have several dramatic differences. Marriages in
India are based solely on parental decisions, whereas in the United States a marriage is based on
individualism. Who, why and how the spouse is chosen, is very different in both countries. Most
Americans date to discover who their future spouse is going to be, and they know the person very well
before marriage. In India, dating is not something that occurs. Most individuals in India do not have
any interaction with the bride or groom prior to their wedding day, therefore, they do not personally
know who they are marrying (Nanda 624). Though these differences exist, pros and cons reflect on
each of them. In India, most marriages are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Depending on the parents, qualifications can consist of areas such as age, physical features, beliefs,
occupation and much more. For example, in one situation, a sister and brother in law invited
correspondences from North Indian professionals only and preferred that the man be an immigrant
doctor who was between 26 29 years, for their relative. (Nanda 623). Sometimes the bride and groom
will meet one time for a brief conversation, but in most cases the bride and groom s first appearance of
each other is at their wedding (Nanda 624). However, some parents are becoming more lenient in this
area and allowing their son or daughter to meet at least one time before making any final marital
arrangements to see if the two individuals are in agreement to get married to one another. This is not
like a date in the United States where a couple goes out to dinner and to a movie and hangs out. This is
more like a formal meeting, chaperoned by a guardian. It is sometimes classified as having tea
together. As Americans, we probably think this is an absurd way of getting married but those in India
find arranged marriages by their parents very satisfying and a better way to choose a spouse.
Marriages in the United States are vastly different from those in India. In the U.S., most marriages are
based on individualism; parents do not decide who their son or daughter is going to marry. In the

EGO There was a very real cousin rivalry in the house I grew up in, from who could do more push ups

this, our grandfather transformed our backyard into half a basketball court, which in turn took our
rivalry from friendly competition to must win by any means necessary. We literally left our blood,

There s absolutely nothing wrong with having the utmost confidence in yourself, and if it offends
people? That s their problem! Why is it that people with confidence have to wait for other people to
champion them before they re allowed to celebrate themselves being extraordinary? One of my
missions in life is to empower as many people as possible, instead of telling them to be humble. The
only thing humble people get is a humble life, which is cool if that s how they choose to live, but that
isn t enough for my ego...at all. Nothing about me is humble, including especially my goals. I want to

Comparison Of Jim Crow Laws And Mass Incarceration In The...
In The New Jim Crow, Michelle Alexander maps out the parallels between the old Jim Crow system
and the new racial caste system of mass incarceration. There are many profound similarities between
these two systems, such as historical parallels, closing the courthouse doors, and racial segregation.
There are many historical parallels between Jim Crow laws and mass incarceration. Both of these
systems were made due to a desire among white elites to exploit the resentments, vulnerabilities, and
racial bias of poor and working class whites for political or economic gain (Alexander 191).
Segregation laws were made to deflect social tensions from whites to blacks. Another example is
making laws more discriminative. In the Jim Crow era whites competed by passing harsher laws to
keep blacks in prisons. Currently legislators looking to make drug laws harsher to incarcerate more
blacks and latinos. The most obvious parallel between the Jim Crow laws and mass incarceration is
the legalization of discrimination. During the Jim Crow era blacks were denied the right to vote by
poll taxes, literacy tests, and grandfather clauses. The fifteenth amendment states the rights of citizens
of the United States to vote should not be denied on the account of race, color or previous condition of
servitude (Alexander 192). African Americans were not able to pay poll taxes or pass literacy tests, yet
if a white male could not pass these hurdles he could still possibly be able to vote due to the

Leonid Frridman s Essay America Needs Its Nerds
In the passage, America Needs Its Nerds, by Leonid Fridman he develops his argument by using the
three pillars of literature: pathos, ethos and logos.
Firstly, in lines 20 23, 28 pathos was used to develop the author s argument about children who prefers
learning or creating things versus children who play sports. He used this as an example to appeal to his
readers emotions because these children who preferred invention over sports are known as social
outcasts and are ostracized for being intelligent or wanting to show off their talent. The author was
clearly showing his emotion in line 28 Enough is enough to get his readers to understand the feeling
by putting yourself in that child s position.
Second, ethos was used to try and convince

Exploration For A New Route
In one such exploration for a new route to Asia, the VOC in 1609 employed Henry Hudson, an
Englishman, to locate the legendary Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific oceans. The
VOC had hoped that it would provide a safer and quicker route instead of having to pass through the
Cape of Good Hope or going around the tip of South of America. While Hudson never did discover
the supposed Northwest Passage, he did explore a vast area of modern day northern US and Canada.
These explorations gained the VOC a foothold in North America as they established trading posts in
1614 at Manhattan and Albany; however these posts were only half heartedly promoted. Nonetheless,
the VOC participated in the slave trade by establishing a route ... Show more content on

The overall part that the Dutch played in the Atlantic slave trade was never much more than 5 7 per
cent, which is estimated to be about 550,000 slaves. The economic aspects of the Transatlantic slave
trade were relatively meagre as far as the Dutch were concerned; therefore asking the question of
rather or not it was worth the bother. While the Dutch West India Company took part in the typically
less profitable aspects of Dutch Trade, the VOC was turning enormous profits all across the East
Indies and Asia. The VOC were the only Europeans allowed to conduct trade with Japan throughout
their isolation during the Edo period (1603 1868). The VOC were only permitted to trade at the
designated port, Dejima, on the island of Nagasaki and there were only ever a select few allowed to
come temporary onto the mainland. One of the reasons why the Japanese permitted trade with the
Dutch was because the Dutch were only interested in the acquiring of Japanese silver and copper, not
incorporating Dutch ideologies and culture onto Japan. Furthermore, William Adams, who worked for
the Dutch, had travelled to Japan before the start of their isolation and became an advisor to Ieyasu,
the head of the Japanese government. Due to these two reasons when Japan closed its borders off to
the outside world, the Dutch were one of the three countries, Korea and China being the other two, the
Japanese were permitted to trade with. The Dutch East India Company was not only formed for

when glucose is consumed it is dispersed throughout the body via insulin and the extra is sent to the
liver to be stored. Glucose consumed at low to moderate levels will not have an overly detrimental
effect on the liver. Fructose, however, circumvents insulin and is directed straight to the liver
(Stanhope, Sugar Consumption... ). When the fructose reaches the liver it is stored as fat cells, which

Though there is truth in this statement, as aforementioned, if sugar truly is addictive as shown in some
studies, there may be a correlation between overeating and sugar. Even more concerning, in recent
years, there have been multiple discussions arising concerning the sugar industry s involvement in
skewing research conducted on the effects of sugar. These exposés found in both scholarly journals as
well as in publications like Time Magazine suggest great lengths have been made to hide the negative
impacts of sugar from the public. In the article Sugar Industry Influence on Dental Health Policy
Examined, Karen Rosenberg writes, The researchers found a consistent pattern of efforts by the sugar
industry to divert attention away from limiting sugar intake. Why would the sugar industry try to
prevent this information from spreading? Money is most likely the answer. The sugar industry is a
twenty four billion dollar industry worldwide, a market that would be greatly harmed if sugar stopped
being consumed at excessive rates (Keating, The World Sweetener... ). In recent years, the medical
world has begun to address the links to sugar and poor health. An article written to optometrist doctors

Anne Frank Childhood
Anne Frank was a normal girl in a not so normal time period. She was born in a time of war and
unjust, prejudice and racist thoughts. In a world of hate, she was able to keep her good spirit and faith
in humanity until the end.
Born June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany, Annelise Marie Frank was the youngest in a family of
four. A mother (Edith), a father (Otto) and a sister, (Margot) Anne seemed to have a pretty good life.
She was a citizen of Germany until 1941 when the Nuremberg laws took effect. Her family moved to
Amsterdam in the early 1930 s when Nazis gained control over Germany. When Anne turned 13, on
June 12, 1942, she was given an autograph book. She decided to use it as a diary. In July of that year,
Margot was called to a work camp. The family decided they would go into hiding. July 6, 1942. The
Frank family puts on as many layers as they can, as no Jew would be caught dead with a suitcase.
Anne had Some of the items Anne packed were; her special diary called Kitty , curlers, hankies,

English Language Learners For My Assessment
Profile
The intended English language learners for my assessment would be primary aged students who are at
the beginning level, according to WIDA. Primary aged students are students in kindergarten through
grade 2, and WIDA describes students as beginning if they (a) understand and speak conversational
and academic English with hesitancy and difficulty, (b) understand parts of lessons and simple
directions, and (c) are at a pre emergent or emergent level of reading and writing in English,
significantly below grade level. (http://ell.dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/ell/pdf/elp levels.pdf).
Although my students would be young, they could be classified as significantly below grade level if
they cannot identify letters and perform poorly on the kindergarten screening and running records.
Most ELL students at this age are not literate in their native language, which may make learning
English literacy more difficult.
Rationale
The test I designed I could currently use with some of the students in my classes. I teach kindergarten
and first grade English Language Arts and Social Studies and we have a moderate number of
immigrant students whose parents do not speak English. Although we do not have an ESL program,
our bilingual program draws many native Spanish speaking students to our school because their
families want them to maintain their Spanish. We also have immigrant students from other countries,
such as Middle Eastern and African countries. This exam covers some of

Battle Of Gettysburg Pennsylvania Essay
The Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania was a major battle of the American Civil War. The Battle of
Gettysburg was fought from July 1 to July 3, 1863 and is studied to be the most important
commitment of the American Civil War. A hamlet, whose claim to fame was the convergence of
several Pennsylvania roads, was about to become the most recognized battle site in the entire world.
The Battle of Gettysburg was one of the turning points in the War Between the States. This battle was
very tragic and had an impact on a lot of folk s lives. There were many confederate and union soldiers
that fought in the Battle of Gettysburg and many lives were put at risk. The southern states wanted to
break away from the northern states but the north did not want them to. Robert E. Lee, a Confederate

Lee wanted to push the north into Union territory to relieve pressure on Virginia. In the back of Lee s
head he knew that the success in Union territory would put pressure on President Lincoln to end the
war. After a great victory over Union forces at Chancellorsville, General Robert E. Lee marched his
Army of Northern Virginia into Pennsylvania in late June 1863. We can see that Lee was determined
to push his troops to try and get the victory. Pennsylvania changed forever after two armies clashed on
the streets and fields. On July 1, the Confederates clashed with the Union s Army of the Potomac,
commanded by General George G. Meade, at the crossroads town of Gettysburg. As reported by the
history channel of A E Television Networks with his army in high spirits, Lee intended to collect
supplies in the abundant Pennsylvania farmland and take the fighting away from war ravaged Virginia.

The Gift of Fear
The Gift Of Fear, a psychology book written by Gavin De Becker, is an extremely useful and
informative read. It gives valuable advice about how to act upon human intuition, how to recognize
threats, and defines what real fear is and it s purpose. I found the book to be extremely interesting.
This book provided me with a sense of understanding on violence and fear and I feel much better
prepared when it comes to recognizing dangerous situations.
My favorite part of the book was the warning signs to know when a stranger is a potential threat. This
was fascinating to me because I ve been told since I was just a little boy to beware of strangers. But
with all these warnings about strangers I had never been told how to recognize when a ... Show more

When a person gets that gut feeling that something just isn t right, it should never be ignored. Our
natural human intuition is giving us that gut feeling for a reason. And that sensation of danger can save
lives. One example of how human intuition works was given in the book; a man walked into a
convenience store, had a gut feeling he needed to get out of there, left, and found out later that day the
convenience store had been robbed and the cashier had been shot and killed. This seemingly random
feeling of danger that spared this mans life was not random at all. His intuition let him know to have
fear because the cashier looked as if he was fearful when the man walked into the store and also there
was a second nervous looking customer wearing a long concealing jacket while it was hot outside. His
intuition let him know that there was a potentially dangerous situation even if he wasn t looking for
the signs that were there. This applies to my life because everybody can experience these gut feelings
from human intuition; I know now to act upon them and to never ignore them because they have the
capability to save your life. One thing I learned about fear is that it can basically act for us. With fear
humans can make critical decisions that they wouldn t dare make without fear edging them on. A story
that particularly shocked me was the story of a young woman named Kelly. She followed her

Pride has many benefits and many downfalls. Many qualities of pride can be beneficial, to be proud of
family or friends can be uplifting and can form strong bonds. But pride can also mask genuine human
emotions; stop those who feel pride from showing vulnerability, or weakness. The qualities of pride
itself can be complex and inconceivable, like many human qualities. Each particular emotion has
diverse and opposite effects, pride for example can be a word used to describe utter happiness and
fulfillment, while others can use pride to close themselves off. In the book Stone Angel, written by the
well known author Margaret Laurence, pride is often portrayed as a negative quality. It is used as a

The Duality Of Filipino Culture In The Philippines
As we all know, Philippines is considered the largest Christian nation in Asia. In fact, the country has
86% of the population as Roman Catholics and 6% represents variations of other Christian cults and
denominations. In the Filipino setting, the extended family is a huge part of his societal unit. The
children s closest friendship often come from within their own families. It is also a social norm where
the Father is in charge of making decisions for their home. It is also common that one child remains at
home with the parents and grandparents to take care of them. This child, given the fact that he is at
home with his or her family, is not necessarily living with a spouse. For in the Filipino setting, even
the extended family may stay at home with their grandparents. Some grandchildren may be given to
their grandparents at times to raise. And indigent family members are also there to help to raise and
take care of the children. Filipino families are so close that cousins treat each other as siblings and
nieces and nephews are referred to as one s one child. It is also a trend wherein young children are ...

Ways Of Seeing Analysis
In ways of seeing John Berger invites us to see different works that so many museums present as
sacred relics based on 160 reproductions of paintings and advertising images. This critical
reinterpretation of our cultural heritage aims at getting the reader to question the images that surround
him on a daily basis. In seven essays, John Berger recalled the modalities of ordering paintings of the
Renaissance and thus demonstrates the power of the ruling class. It analyzes the relationship between
these modalities and the development and omnipresence of advertising codes in our contemporary
capitalist society. It encourages the spectator reader to question the images that surround him on a

(It can not be considered as if it were isolated in this small part of the process which concerns the
retina of the eye.) One sees only what one looks at. To look is to choose. And it is by this choice that
what we see appears in our field without being nevertheless within reach. It is a touch that places us in
relation to things. (Take a few steps with your eyes closed and you will realize how touching is to see,
although in a less mobile and less extensive way.) It is never on a single object that our gaze is focused

from our time, Ways of Seeing sees some interesting ways to study what is common in images, which

Eating Disorders Essay
Eating Disorders Eating disorders are sweeping this country and are rampant on junior high, high
school, and college campuses. These disorders are often referred to as the Deadly Diet, but are often
known by their more popular names: anorexia or bulimia. They affect more than 20% of females
between the age of thirteen and forty. It is very rare for a young female not to know of someone with
an eating disorder. Statistics show that at least one in five young women have a serious problem with
eating and weight (Bruch, 25). The Deadly Diet appears to be a mostly female problem. Eating

The regular dieter is in control of the diet. The Deadly Dieter is controlled by the diet. There are five
basic types of Deadly Dieter. Although there are probably as many variations of these basic types as
there are people in the world, all eating disorders fall into one of the Deadly Diets. Fasting. This type
of Deadly Dieter will often try to exist on only 500 calories per day, even though most nutritionists
claim that a starvation diet is no lower than about 1200 calories a day. This person can get so upset
over any extra calories that they begin to see calories where there are virtually none. For example,
some Deadly Dieters are afraid to chew one piece of gum for fear they would take in too many
calories. Binging. People who just binge, and consequently are obese, can also be called Deadly
Dieters. They, too, are out of control. Their diet is constantly on their minds. It begins to kill them (not
only in terms of their health, but socially and personally). Binging Purging. These people often begin
their Deadly Diet as fasters. They soon learn that fasting also cuts them off from most social functions.
In our society it is rare when people get together and don t have some type of food available. The
solution to being thin and yet being able to eat is to get rid of the food they have eaten. The most
common form of purging is vomiting. A much less common method is the overuse of laxatives.
Fasting Purging. This form of the

Controversy Of Euthanasia
Euthanasia has been one of the most controversial and debatable topics in recent years. Even though
the debate about euthanasia seems to be very complex and problematic, it is important to analyze very
deeply some problems and questions related to this issue in order to indicate adequate solutions in
terms of possible legislation. First step is to identify the proper definition of euthanasia as an act of
causing a person s death to end unbearable pain and suffering. In addition, there are many forms of

In fact, according to a recent poll almost 42% of surveyed supported euthanasia and 37% opposed (Fig
1). A lot of controversy surrounding this issue stems from the fact that euthanasia has been analyzed
not only from juridical perspective, whether or not it should be legal, but also from various medical,
social, philosophical, religious points of view. The topic seems to be extremely relevant not only
because it is related to the basic principles of society regarding life and death, but also it affects every
person, especially who suffers from a terminal illness. This study tries to indicate possible solutions
for some questions related to euthanasia in order to show that in many cases euthanasia can be avoided
by adequate treatment and that proper and clearly legislation is necessary to protect patients. For the
purpose of this paper, euthanasia can be defined as conduct that brings about an easy and painless
death for persons suffering from an incurable or painful disease or condition (Muckart, Gopalan,
Hardcastle, Hodgson, McQuoid Mason, 2014, p. 259). Even though the issue of proper definition of
euthanasia is still debatable, the question of classification of euthanasia seems to be less problematic.
In fact, many scholars agree that euthanasia may be classified as voluntary (because of the will), non
voluntary (without specific will), involuntary (against the will) and divided according to active (use of
lethal substances) and passive options (termination of treatment). Euthanasia differs also from assisted
suicide. The former means to help someone to die, the latter means to help a person kill him or

Martin Luther King Just Law Analysis
Justice is considered a consequence for an acted committed by another, that benefits the most amount
of people. My personal interpretation of what justice means is different from Martin Luther King, as
he describes just laws as laws that uplift personality. What he means by this is that there should be
laws in place that do not dehumanize people, whether it is done physically, socially, or legally. He
specifically touches upon justice and injustice in regards to law. He defines an injustice law as one that
degrades human personality; dehumanizing, in my own words, is the process of making a person feel
less than others or giving unequal benefits or deficits based on traits that are out of the average person
s control. On the contrary, just laws is the opposite of doing this, making it the act of evening out a
wrongdoing, and preventing such acts from occurring in the future, from a societal standpoint.
Furthermore, this includes equal opportunity and treatment in regards to traits out of our control. This
double edged sword also comes with justifying punishment for action we have control over. If an
action someone performs while exercising free will is considered by the majority to be immoral, then
it is justifiable to punish them for it. If there is no choice made by a person, how can a person justly
punish them for it? These injustices in society are the responsibility of the people, supported by
inquiry by Dr. King in his Letter From Birmingham Jail.

LLUSM Personal Statement
I discovered Loma Linda University School of Medicine through a friend who urged me to apply
knowing how much of a devout Christian I am. I am aware that LLUSM educates its students in the
teachings of Christ, and teaches them to heal patients and make man whole as Christ did. This in itself
requires an understanding of Christianity and its application to medicine as a career. As a future
medical student, I recognize that I will be required to act according to these Christian ideals, a
privilege that I look forward to. I admire LLUSM due to its ability to spread love to its patients and
inform them of Christ s ministry. I wholeheartedly agree with the philosophy; healing a patient is
much more than treating the symptoms.
I was immediately attracted to LLUSM upon discovering it was a Christian oriented medical school. I

perfect opportunity. As a young child, I was raised to serve others through Christ. I believe LLUSM

Naturalism Vs Supernaturalism

case, making a straw man of my claims does nothing to substantiate claims of a supernatural realm. To
refute weak naturalism the supernaturalist needs to provide positive evidence of a supernatural world.
It is not sufficient to present semantic disagreement on what the terms mean or to attempt to puncture
weak naturalism by conflating and straw manning the concept. It is trivially true that the world exists,
and undoubtedly true that we have no compelling evidence of a world beyond. The question is: what
sort of evidence would be adequate to refute weak naturalism? And by degree, this question becomes,
what quantum of evidence would be sufficient

On Friday, April 25, 2014, I attended the event Global Climate Change Symposium organized by the
West Valley College Global Citizen and Suitability Committees from 1:00 to 2:30 PM. In this event,
the speaker was Dr. Daphane Miller, MD., family physician, writer, and Associate Professor in the
department of Family Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Daphane Miller is
also a family physician. One thing that I believe that is striking to know first is that she is a doctor, a
writer, and a discoverer that has found a new science named Farmacology. She sits at her office three
days a week and she sees patients all day long and takes care of them. One of her many prescriptions
to her patients is good eating. The major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Daphane explained that Erick s dream was to wake up every morning and look at his plantations. This
dream was truncated at first, as soon as Erick started to plant on his farm he noticed that his soil was
depleted, in other words it had no nutrients or minerals in it. In order to solve this problem, Dr.
Daphane explained that Erick went to the agronomy books since he was a smart man as he went to
Yale. In the agronomy books, Erick found out the technique called testing and replacing that is what
he did. Dr. Daphane compares this technique like a routine blood test, but for the soil. In this test, he
had to send off testing tubes containing soil, to an agronomy lab to get reports as a person would get
for his blood from the medical lab. The results he got from the agronomy lab contained information
from his soil. For example, if the soil needed more minerals or if it had too much of a mineral, as well
as how much minerals he needed to replace. After sometime later, Dr. Daphane explained that Erick
started to wonder and imagine where these minerals came from. As well as why these mineral the
manufactures recommended the user to wear a mask and gloves while spreading them. Then she
explained that Erick also heard stories that adding too much of one element can lock up other
elements, which could create worst soil problems than the ones he already had. Someone could

The Likely Cause Of Earthquakes In The United States
Name: Olawale Oluwakoya
Media report: The likely cause of recent southeast US earthquakes.
The southeastern part of the United States should not encounter too many seismic activities because it
is located in the interior of the North American Plate, a good distance away from plate boundaries
where earthquakes mostly occur. However the southeast have seen some seismic, the latest was the
2011 magnitude 5.8 earthquake at Virginia.
Scientists recently reported in a new study a likely explanation for this unexpected incident, some tiny
pieces of the mantle under the region have been breaking off and moving deep down into the Earth.
Thereby weakening the remaining plates and making it more prone to slipping that causes
earthquakes. Most study authors have concluded that this process is ongoing and very likely ... Show

Earthquakes does not often occur in the middle of plates, however they do happen when old faults or
rifts far below the surface reactivate. These areas are weak compared to the surrounding plate, and can
slip easily and cause earthquake.
A CAT scan of the Earth
To find out what had been happening below the surface, researchers created 3D images of the mantle
portion of the North American Plate. Seismologists image the internal part of the Earth by tracing the
paths of seismic waves created by earthquakes as they move through the ground. The waves move
faster through colder rocks and less quickly through warmer rocks. Rocks cool and harden as they
become older, so the faster seismic waves, the older the rock.
The researchers used tremors created by earthquakes a little more than 2,000 miles away to create a
3D map of the mantle. They discovered that plate thickness in the southeast U.S. is uneven, they saw
thick areas of dense, aged rock stretching down and thin areas of less dense, younger

Case Study Of BIMS
Introduction The company (BIMS) Ballard Integrated Managed Services, Inc. is a company that does
housekeeping and food service for many companies. The company has come up with some issues in
the last four months, which was an increase in turnover. The company has an average turnover rate of
50 to 60%. With now a 64% rate of turnover BIMS knows there is a problem. Management is not sure
as to why the turnover rate has risen so much. They have failed to find the origin of the problem.
Another problem is that the morale in the company is low, and the sick leave is increasing.
Management is determined to figure out what is causing the problem to find a solution. An approach
that the company will take is to give all 452 employees a survey.
Data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The survey was created to help employees in BIMS to help management find what is causing the turn
over by giving their opinion with the company. There are ten questions in the survey, the first one asks
employees to express how they feel with their employment. Communication is also pointed out in the
survey, to see how communication is between employee and management. These questions have to be
answered by circling a number from one to five. One for very negative and five for very positive. That
s is for questions one to ten. There are also four extra questions that need to be answered different,
there is one that the employee has to state what sex they are either male or female, also about how
long they have worked for the company, so these questions can not be answered in a one to five
format. As well as to in what area they work in. taking a look at the answers one can connect points
and see that there was a small communication between employee and manager. Also another point is
that there are many hours assigned to workers and they are not satisfied with the pay.
Levels of measurement BIMS used nominal, ordinal, and interval levels of analysis in the survey. In
the Nominal level there was classification done. Then followed the ordinal level, which took care of
classifying and ordering in the survey. Then followed the interval level which classifying, ordering
and distance. Interval was applied in the question which

2) The marketplace condition after World War II that gave rise to the need for consumer orientation by

6) Firms using mobile marketing to reach out to its customers may benefit from this type of marketing
because it provides timely information to its customers as they go about their days activities. This
would be especially useful for short term sales on products. If I was to get an e mail notification of a
two day sale at thegolfworld.com, I am able to use the link to view sale items right away.
7) The significance of the shift from transaction based marketing to relationship marketing is that
firms realize that just attracting customers to buy their products is not quite as important as
establishing and maintaining relationships with them so that they will turn into loyal repeat customers.
Relationship building begins early in marketing. It starts with what customers want and need, and then
developing high quality products to meet those needs.
8) The two exchange functions of marketing are buying and selling. They are important to the overall
marketing program for the following reasons. Buying is important because marketers must figure out
how and why consumers buy certain goods and services. Retailers and other intermediaries must seek
out products that will appeal to their customers. Selling is important because it involves advertising,
personal selling, and sales promotion in an attempt to match the firm s goods and services to customer
needs.
9) The physical distribution function creates place utility through transporting and storing.

The Affect Of The Six-Day War On Israel
Terrorism and war have affected Israel, and the people living there, ever since they became their own
nation. Over the long history of Jerusalem it has been destroyed twice, besieged 23 times attacked 52
times, and captured and recaptured 44 times. Jerusalem was established by King David as the capital
city of Israel, however there has since been a struggle of which religion should occupy the region.
Christians and Muslims have been fighting a long time to control the land of Israel because they both
feel they are entitled to it. The Muslims believe Muhammad s armies founded Israel. On the other
hand, the Christians feel positive that the land should be theirs because they founded it first.
Numerous people have died over the years for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Arab nations were trying to eliminate Israel and take away the shame they felt after they were
defeated a few years earlier when they fought Israel. The countries against Israel united together and
planned out the war thinking it would be a piece of cake. Moreover, Israel fended off the countries and
won the war in six days hence the name the Six Day War. General Mordechai Hod, who was a
commanding general for the Israeli Air Force, said about the Six Day War, The dangers of Israel s
extermination was hardly present before the Six Day War (Dodd and Mead Co). The Six Day War
increased the number of terrorist attacks that Israel has now, this is because many countries are not
fans of Israel and are upset about the way they lost the war. The countries that fought Israel used a
billion dollars worth of supplies during the war, causing serious debt. The Six Day War changed the
events that happened in Israel and the ones that are still occurring in Israel. Israel gained some respect
because of how they won the war against all the countries facing them in the Six Day War.
Furthermore, Israel gained respect from some of the countries. Even though Israel had a small
population they put up a tough fight. Israel showed resilience during the Six Day War, and since the
war they have been able to protect their

John Eldredge s Wild At Heart
The premise behind Wild at Heart by John Eldredge is simply put: astounding. A book that dives into
the male psyche of today. Who we are, why we re here, what we do; or sometimes rather don t do.
Wild at Heart works hard to break the stereo type of what men are taught to be by the world around
them, and in doing so, helps self diagnose why you, as a guy living in todays world, might feel
unfulfilled. Long story short, I feel as though Eldredge communicated the premise of Wild at Heart
quite effectively. The hypothesis is proved several times throughout the book, actually, each chapter
helps prove the belief. However, the three main points in Wild at Heart are the most potent. As men,
we are innately wired for adventure, bravery and beauty. So the main focuses in this book are as
follows: A Battle to Fight, A Beauty to Rescue, and An Adventure to Live. Somewhere along the way,
so many of us fall along the way side of these points. As Eldredge puts it, we hang up our six shooter
and cowboy hat and grow up just as the world has told us to do. We now see adventure as trading
stocks and going to meetings at a different coffee shop than usual. Society in large can t make up its
mind about men. Where are the real men? The world asks us. The answer that ... Show more content

Eldredge has done a phenomenal job of exposing men where they fall short, and an even better job of
explaining why we fall short! Even in my experience, having been on staff at two churches, around
church my entire life, and surrounded by genuinely good people, I can now see how at times men are
degraded. Not even intentionally in most cases. Though, as stated in my opening remarks, the world
really can not make up its mind about what it wants men to be. Perhaps if the world could decide we
could follow that. However, in my opinion, it s better that the world not make up it s

The Radio Frequency Identification Device ( Rfid ) Essay
The Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) is a powerful technology for companies in the
logistics and supply chain management industry. According to Jakobs (2000), he states that the RFID
system use tiny tags with embedded microchips that contains data. This data contains the location and
information about the product/item and transfers the data to RFID readers through radio signals.
The RFID system is my innovation solution to improving the technologies Hunzal currently use in
managing their logistics and supply chain. RFID was introduced as a radical innovation, with a
significant impact in the logistics and supply chain industry. Now RFID is seen as an incremental
innovation as large firms in the logistics and supply chain industry are constantly making minor
improvements on the RFID. (Wamba, 2013).
2.5 The process of RFID
The process of RFID is relatively simple and does not take a long period of time to become an expert
with this system. Basically the Radio Frequency Identification system has three parts (see appendix 2):
1. Firstly, a RFID tag this piece holds data including an identification number. This data is manually
entered from the reader to help identify an item. The rest of the tag consists of an antenna that
transmits radio waves between the RFID readers.
2. Secoundly, a RFID reader, which is a transceiver with a decoder to interpret the data. Whenever the
sensor tag is activated on the reader, it will interrogate and decode the data on the

A Historical Critique of Homosexual Exclusions from the Armed Forces using the concepts of Michel
Foucault
From 1989 to 1999, the time period of the Clinton Administration, a homosexual force entered the
American consciousness. Court cases and rhetoric of the 80s incited a discourse in which
homosexuality was re articulated, re negotiated, and unmistakably re repressed (Davis 3). Supreme
Court judgment and actions taken by Congress with the Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy exemplify
theories of sexuality and power expressed in the philosophies of Michel Foucault.
Foucault was a French born ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Foucault saw the importance of the matter to lie in how the discourse on sexuality in our culture has
paradoxically produced repression.
Repression in modern society is a complex process. Foucault s work divides pre modern sexual acts
from modern sexual identities and sexualities (Lochrie 86). Foucault explained that the discussion of
sexuality itself was restricted in a few areas. After the eighteenth century he noted an institutional
incitement to speak about [sex]... a determination on the part of the agencies of power to hear it
spoken about, and to cause it to speak through explicit articulation and endlessly accumulated detail
(18). This proliferation of discourse had the effect of increasing encroachment of state law onto the
issue of private sexuality.
Foucault s analysis was considered radical. This aspect of societal repression and subsequent
obsession plays an important role in understanding the reactionary political movements concerning
homosexuals in the military. This will be examined after a discussion of the functions of sexuality and
power.
In The History of Sexuality, this examination also focused on the functions of sexuality and power. He
created the term Biopower, which refers to the regulation of subjects by the state. This regulation
occurs through an explosion of numerous and diverse techniques for achieving the

Reflection Of Journalism And Writing
I know that the Master of Science program at Columbia will fit my needs as a student and as a
budding professional. Journalism and writing have not been lifelong loves of mine, and throughout
high school I was a math and science student. I took an introductory journalism course as a senior in
high school, and I quickly learned that journalism is more than writing about yourself and topics you
like. Even with the light requirements of the class, I got my first taste of the process of writing a story.
When I arrived to campus, I decided to apply to the journalism program in hopes of simply becoming
a better writer, regardless of what I would end up studying. Nearly three years later, I am thankful that
I decided to take the first steps toward becoming a better writer. The undergraduate journalism classes
I took piqued my interest in the field, and the potential graduate courses at Columbia will culminate
my learning experience. As an undergraduate, I was particularly influenced by a class I took during the
2016 election. The class was described as a seminar discussion on recent election news, but it turned
out to be something entirely different. I soon found out that the class was going to be responsible for
creating and maintaining a new website similar to Politifact. Each student was assigned a local or state
senate race and a national race to follow and fact check. This task, while interesting, seemed daunting
at first. The local race seemed too small for anybody to

  • 2. The Tell Tale Heart Human Instinct The bases of human instinct are profound into its history and encounters. At the point when in people s own particular lives they are to discover the premise of human instinct, they should look to their infant years, the developmental years. Presently take for instance in the event that an infant is in the wild or in high class, all around mannered, affluent family. The human instinct of the infant in the wild will be precisely that, wild and riotous. While then again the infant in the all around mannered society will be very much mannered and moralistic. Human instinct is characterized by the qualities that are taught and the qualities that society characterizes. Throughout these short stories culture, ethics, and characteristics are portrayed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More often than not there is an obscure parity and the wickedness is quelled; be that as it may, when there is a movement, for reasons unknown, the dim or insidiousness side of human instinct can surface. In human nature often times a person wants to rid their conscious of ill thoughts often times by committing violent acts. In The Tell Tale Heart, the storyteller chooses to kill this pulse. He plans to execute his thoughts of the eye, I made up my mind to take the life of the old man and thus rid myself of the eye forever (Poe 1843). The storyteller is threatened by the conferred ethics of the old man. This can be reached out into the bigger representation of the contention in mankind and the conferred profound quality of the heart inside. Mankind in strife with itself shows a mystery; is this inner voice regular, as well as the restriction to it, is additionally common. Humans often value their picture and practical status is more vital than their honesty. Poe sets up his stories in the space between the assurance of brutality in humankind and the questionable way of where this savagery originates from. In The Tell Tale Heart, the wrongdoing itself is portrayed in computed subtle element for the reader to appreciate, yet the setting, inspiration, and general work are covered up. The Tell Tale Heart displays a novel affirmation that the value of other s opinion exists; How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily how calmly I can tell you the whole story (Poe 1843). Here the narrator is trying to prove to the readers that he is not insane. He would rather tell the readers that he is sane and have them on his side rather than proving he is not insane. Human instinct includes focusing on insignificant things, in the narrator s case, an eyeball. Putting his potential franticness aside, the narrator focuses on the old man, and how angry he was with him over something as absurd as his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Minimal Risk What We Know About Minimal Risk In the determination of risk, there are two major components for IRBs to consider (BCEHI, 2013). The first component is the risk that may result from research, as distinct from the risks that may be associated with the therapies that participants would endure if they were not participating in research (U.S. Department of HHS). For example, in the calculation of risk for a study that is measuring the effects of a brain operation on memory for the purpose of epilepsy relief, only the risks associated with the memory test should be considered by the IRB (U.S. Department of HHS). Thus, some research studies can present minimal risk even when higher risks are associated with the therapeutic procedure (U.S. Department ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vulnerability factors include, but are not limited to, the participant s mental, emotional, and cognitive capacity, socio economic status, age, and the existence of power relationships (BCEHI, 2013). As the federal regulation title 45 CFR part 46.111(b) stipulates: When some or all of the subjects are likely to be vulnerable to coercion or undue influence, such as children, prisoners, pregnant women, mentally disabled persons, or economically or educationally disadvantaged persons, additional safeguards have been included in the study to protect the rights and welfare of these subjects. However, the National Research Council (2014) asserts that because this definition does not differentiate between social and research vulnerabilities, this definition encourages IRBs to estimate the research harms faced by any population considered to be vulnerable. Therefore, the risk caused by the vulnerability of a group should be examined in conjunction with the specific risks posed by the research (Fisher Goodman, 2009). This relationship between the continuum of risk level and participant vulnerability, which can be used to determine if a study may require full IRB review, is provided in Figure 1. This means that when a study s potential risk is being assessed, the harm that may be caused by the actual research participation and the harm that may be caused by the situation or participant characteristics should be uniquely contemplated (National Research Council, 2014). Thus, the current paper advocates for the integration of considerations on the potential harm caused by the research procedures in conjunction with participants ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tax Haven A Tax Haven is defined as, a place that seeks to attract business by offering politically stable facilities to help people or entities get around the rules, laws and regulations of jurisdictions elsewhere . Tax havens also refer to countries which have a system of financial secrecy in place. It should be noted that, financial secrecy can be used by foreign individuals to circumvent certain taxes (such as inheritance tax on money, and income tax of the interest on the money you have on your bank account. Because the requirement of paying taxes on these funds can not be transmitted, as the funds themselves are invisible to the country the individual is from, such taxes can be avoided. FACT: According to data compiled by the State Department, the CIA, the IRS, and the Financial Action Task Force, low tax jurisdictions are less likely to engage in money laundering. This is likely due to the fact that revelations of illicit activity would be very damaging to the reputation of small economies, so there is a much greater incentive to weed out wrong doing. Moreover, criminals tend to avoid taking stolen money offshore because cross border transactions raise red flags and create paper trails .  Tax havens encourage tax evasion. FACT: Excessive tax burdens in welfare states such as France encourage tax evasion. This leads to capital flight to places such as Hong Kong, Switzerland, the United States, and the Cayman Islands. If French politicians do not like capital flight, they should lower France s oppressive tax rates. Moreover, tax havens play a key role in protecting people victimized by crime, corruption, and ethnic or religious persecution precisely by shielding them from venal governments .  High tax jurisdictions are unable to compete with tax havens and therefore have little choice but to push for protectionist policies in order to retain entrepreneurial talent and ... • 5. Participation Awards Should Be Banned The notion of participation awards in childhood activities have raised a spark debate; while awarding each child with a uniform trophy supports equality, what s there to say about the detrimental effect on motivation if everyone is labeled a winner? The expectation of an award or certificate, in conclusion to any activity, is viewed as a guarantee; often, they serve as the sole motivation point for those uninterested in the activity itself as they re aware they ll be a winner regardless. This inflated sense of self worth brought upon by miniscule awards, most especially participation, leaves children unprepared for adult life as a functioning member of society. While generous in thought, participation awards support a distorted view of reality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In developing nations, there are winners and losers; there are people who succeed in life, and people who simply fail. This is an accepted thought amongst nations such as Brazil, China, India, and Lebanon. The culture of these nations believes that there are no rewards for doing what is expected of you. Simply showing up does not warrant you an award of any kind, it s the unique work ethic and efforts you push yourself to achieve that result in success. For example, the culture of India places a high importance on education; there are no rewards in place for students that simply show up to class every day, which is merely an expectation you must uphold. In the United States, school systems reward their students with participation trophies at the end of the year for merely showing up! The award culture in the U.S. has altered the expectation of success within the nation; the younger generation feels they re entitled to much more than they are possibly responsible enough for. The culture of Middle Eastern, and Asian nations execute an entirely different expectation of success; awards are reserved for those who exhibit unique traits and actions, not to those that simply participate by showing up. These up and coming nations are quickly replacing America in several industries, which is perhaps due to award system they have in place that only celebrate those that work exceptionally ... • 6. Marketing Strategy At The North American Market Strategy As we close Q3, we move forward with our plan to expand our offices in the North American market. Our next office expansion will take place in Chicago. The market potential in Chicago, for the workhorse computer, is relatively high; in comparison to our initial other locations such as Los Angeles and Toronto. According to market research, these markets have great potential to effectively meet customer needs. The pricing strategy used for Workhorse, which is our first priority product in the market, is to provide a technologically advanced computer at an affordable price. In addition, to a good retail price, we will offer a $100 rebate as an incentive to purchase a Pentabytes workhorse computer. Brand Design Our main objective is to increase market potential by designing brands attractive to Workhorse, Traveler and Innovator segments. The executive team analyzed the customer needs and use pattern to determine the design. Based on the research, our firm decided to add a new segment that targets a different clientele. The strategy to design a desktop computer for our Workhorse customers was based on their top three preferences of having a computer easy to use, but still does a wide variety of tasks at a special price deal. We introduced a laptop for our Traveler segment. The idea of the design is to provide a portable computer that features office applications. We realized how important is to accommodate their portability concern. Our latest addition is a desktop ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Theme Of Prejudice In 12 Angry Men Back in 1957 MGM released a film directed by Sidney Lumet that is considered a masterpiece today same as it was back then. There is a very good reason for that, this film has aged very well. It deals with the same topics we have to deal with in today s society. Today it seems people are just as divided as they were in the 50 s. That is what 12 Angry Men does so well, it handles the topic of prejudice. How does it show this? 12 Angry Men shows us different jurors with different prejudices that are revealed through their attitudes, beliefs, and words. It is easy to spot prejudice through attitude because of the way they act around or talking about the person or a community they have a prejudice about. Prejudice is an unjustified or incorrect attitude (usually negative) towards an individual based solely on the individual s membership of a social group (McLeod 1). In the film almost, everyone is ready to sentence an eighteen year old boy to death for murder. Most do this just because of the evidence, but jurors three and ten have different attitudes about the situation. Juror three has a different attitude because of his son and the relationship he created there. He abused his son and now he has left him, the guilt he has is more than apparent through his anger. Juror ten also shows anger and it is not apparent as to why until later when he starts speaking. The beliefs of the individual characters can say a lot about them because it reinforces their prejudices. Juror ten ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the most important purposes was to make it easier for the driver to see in front of the train and make sure they were not approaching any obstacles. The headlight was also used to alert anyone ahead that the train was coming. There were several attempts and prototypes of the locomotive headlamps. One that was used for some time after the civil war was a large box that was almost two feet by two feet, with glass in the front. It was sometimes decorated to make it more visually appealing, but it did not last. The one that became the most popular was much smaller and round. In the late 1800s many locomotive companies began using electric headlamps instead of oil lamps. There were multiple problems that came with using the electric lights instead of oil. It was very difficult to supply electric power when the train was in a station (Presentation Magazine). The light was extremely bright and made it hard for the drivers of others trains to see when they were arriving at the station. In the early 1900 s the arc lamp was invented and made it much easier for other train drivers to see and it allowed people to safely cross. The headlamp shown in class was made using black metal, possibly iron, with a glass plate in the front which allows the light to pass through it. The glass is on a hinge so it could be opened and closed. The artifact relates to what we are learning because the locomotive industry became one of the largest and most important industries in America for a long time during and after the civil war. China s gross domestic product has been growing annually at 7 per cent on average over the past five years, reaching $6.4 trillion (in purchasing power parity index) in 2003 ( Anderson K., 1995). • 15. Essay about Marital Differences between India and the... marriages that occur in India and the United States have several dramatic differences. Marriages in India are based solely on parental decisions, whereas in the United States a marriage is based on individualism. Who, why and how the spouse is chosen, is very different in both countries. Most Americans date to discover who their future spouse is going to be, and they know the person very well before marriage. In India, dating is not something that occurs. Most individuals in India do not have any interaction with the bride or groom prior to their wedding day, therefore, they do not personally know who they are marrying (Nanda 624). (Nanda 623). Sometimes the bride and groom will meet one time for a brief conversation, but in most cases the bride and groom s first appearance of each other is at their wedding (Nanda 624). However, some parents are becoming more lenient in this area and allowing their son or daughter to meet at least one time before making any final marital arrangements to see if the two individuals are in agreement to get married to one another. This is not like a date in the United States where a couple goes out to dinner and to a movie and hangs out. This is more like a formal meeting, chaperoned by a guardian. It is sometimes classified as having tea together. As Americans, we probably think this is an absurd way of getting married but those in India find arranged marriages by their parents very satisfying and a better way to choose a spouse. • 17. Comparison Of Jim Crow Laws And Mass Incarceration In The... In The New Jim Crow, Michelle Alexander maps out the parallels between the old Jim Crow system and the new racial caste system of mass incarceration. There are many profound similarities between these two systems, such as historical parallels, closing the courthouse doors, and racial segregation. There are many historical parallels between Jim Crow laws and mass incarceration. Both of these systems were made due to a desire among white elites to exploit the resentments, vulnerabilities, and racial bias of poor and working class whites for political or economic gain (Alexander 191). Segregation laws were made to deflect social tensions from whites to blacks. Another example is making laws more discriminative. In the Jim Crow era whites competed by passing harsher laws to keep blacks in prisons. Currently legislators looking to make drug laws harsher to incarcerate more blacks and latinos. The most obvious parallel between the Jim Crow laws and mass incarceration is the legalization of discrimination. During the Jim Crow era blacks were denied the right to vote by poll taxes, literacy tests, and grandfather clauses. The fifteenth amendment states the rights of citizens of the United States to vote should not be denied on the account of race, color or previous condition of servitude (Alexander 192). While Hudson never did discover the supposed Northwest Passage, he did explore a vast area of modern day northern US and Canada. The VOC were only permitted to trade at the designated port, Dejima, on the island of Nagasaki and there were only ever a select few allowed to come temporary onto the mainland. One of the reasons why the Japanese permitted trade with the Dutch was because the Dutch were only interested in the acquiring of Japanese silver and copper, not incorporating Dutch ideologies and culture onto Japan. Furthermore, William Adams, who worked for the Dutch, had travelled to Japan before the start of their isolation and became an advisor to Ieyasu, the head of the Japanese government. Our natural human intuition is giving us that gut feeling for a reason. And that sensation of danger can save lives. One example of how human intuition works was given in the book; a man walked into a convenience store, had a gut feeling he needed to get out of there, left, and found out later that day the convenience store had been robbed and the cashier had been shot and killed. This seemingly random feeling of danger that spared this mans life was not random at all. His intuition let him know to have fear because the cashier looked as if he was fearful when the man walked into the store and also there was a second nervous looking customer wearing a long concealing jacket while it was hot outside. His intuition let him know that there was a potentially dangerous situation even if he wasn t looking for the signs that were there. This applies to my life because everybody can experience these gut feelings from human intuition; I know now to act upon them and to never ignore them because they have the capability to save your life. My personal interpretation of what justice means is different from Martin Luther King, as he describes just laws as laws that uplift personality. What he means by this is that there should be laws in place that do not dehumanize people, whether it is done physically, socially, or legally. He specifically touches upon justice and injustice in regards to law. He defines an injustice law as one that degrades human personality; dehumanizing, in my own words, is the process of making a person feel less than others or giving unequal benefits or deficits based on traits that are out of the average person s control. On the contrary, just laws is the opposite of doing this, making it the act of evening out a wrongdoing, and preventing such acts from occurring in the future, from a societal standpoint. Furthermore, this includes equal opportunity and treatment in regards to traits out of our control. This double edged sword also comes with justifying punishment for action we have control over. If an action someone performs while exercising free will is considered by the majority to be immoral, then it is justifiable to punish them for it. If there is no choice made by a person, how can a person justly punish them for it? These injustices in society are the responsibility of the people, supported by inquiry by Dr. King in his Letter From Birmingham Jail. In the letter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am aware that LLUSM educates its students in the teachings of Christ, and teaches them to heal patients and make man whole as Christ did. This in itself requires an understanding of Christianity and its application to medicine as a career. As a future medical student, I recognize that I will be required to act according to these Christian ideals, a privilege that I look forward to. I admire LLUSM due to its ability to spread love to its patients and inform them of Christ s ministry. I wholeheartedly agree with the philosophy; healing a patient is much more than treating the symptoms. I was immediately attracted to LLUSM upon discovering it was a Christian oriented medical school. I ve always desired to garner a greater scope of knowledge in theology and realized this would be the perfect opportunity. As a young child, I was raised to serve others through Christ. Allow me then to clarify so that any further discussion can be clear. My claim that As far as we know, the natural world is all there is, is not, pace Gary s claim, a knowledge claim about fundamental reality. It is agnostic about fundamental reality. This is a crucial distinction, as Gary is at pains to maintain the position of false equivalence between weak naturalism and supernaturalism. Examples of where I had previously used weak naturalism to posit a prima facie case for naturalism, provide no contradiction or suggestion that my definition of weak naturalism is anything less than clear. Ie. Naturalism makes a knowledge claim about fundamental reality whereas weak naturalism does not. Gary appears to think I was arguing that naturalism can be proven from premises that (1) nature exists; and (2) there is no evidence of a supernatural reality) that nature is all there is (which, of course, does not follow) . My essay argued that there was a false equivalence between the two metaphysical views, not that I considered naturalism proven by the limits of our knowledge. In any case, making a straw man of my claims does nothing to substantiate claims of a supernatural realm. To refute weak naturalism the supernaturalist needs to provide positive evidence of a supernatural world. It is not sufficient to present semantic disagreement on what the terms mean or to attempt to puncture weak naturalism by conflating and straw manning the concept. It is trivially true that the world exists, and undoubtedly true that we have no compelling evidence of a world beyond. Somewhere along the way, so many of us fall along the way side of these points. As Eldredge puts it, we hang up our six shooter and cowboy hat and grow up just as the world has told us to do. Foucault saw the importance of the matter to lie in how the discourse on sexuality in our culture has paradoxically produced repression. Repression in modern society is a complex process. Foucault s work divides pre modern sexual acts from modern sexual identities and sexualities (Lochrie 86). Foucault explained that the discussion of sexuality itself was restricted in a few areas. After the eighteenth century he noted an institutional incitement to speak about [sex]... a determination on the part of the agencies of power to hear it spoken about, and to cause it to speak through explicit articulation and endlessly accumulated detail (18). This proliferation of discourse had the effect of increasing encroachment of state law onto the issue of private sexuality. Foucault s analysis was considered radical. This aspect of societal repression and subsequent obsession plays an important role in understanding the reactionary political movements concerning homosexuals in the military.
