Issue Reparation Essay
The issues reparations bring are multifaceted and complex, ranging from how reparations will be paid
to dealing with varying public responses. A thorough investigation is required to fully identify the
problems and provide any solutions. The issue of reparations is not singular to the current debates in
the US. Both in other countries and in the US before, some semblance of reparations have transpired.
After the Second World War, both the United States and Canada enacted legislation for reparations for
the interned Japanese Americans and Japanese Canadians (Wood). Canada s laws focused on
rebuilding the affected communities, while the USA focused on reconciliation and education to
hopefully prevent a repetition of Executive Order 9066. Canada created the Japanese Canadian

40 (Coates). The bill, which was re introduced every session of congress since 1989, would initiate a
four step plan towards reparations (Conyers). The injustice and inhumanity of slavery would be
acknowledged, a commission would be established to research the effects of slavery economically and
socially, then the commission would look into the effects of those forces on current day African
Americans, as well as recommend appropriate remedies to Congress based on this research. This four
tiered plan would be capable of implementing reparations after studious research, backed by the
government and therefore the people. However, this bill has never made it past this early stage, despite
the 28 years put into making it an accessible debate topic. Even outside of politics the issue isn t
widely debated or discussed. How has such a well thought out plan not been given any recognition or

Impact Of The American Revolution On The United States Of...
The United States revolution is one of the most important revolutions to occur in history because it
can be seen as the most significant revolution to transpire in modern time. This can be shown through
the role that the revolution had in creating the country that we know today. Why was it that the
American Revolution occurs, was it for independence or was it based on something else? In the
American Revolution there were many leaders who aided in creating the United States, who were they
and what was the costs that came out of the revolution they helped start. What kinds of impact did the
American Revolution have on the rest of the world at the time? Throughout this paper it will examine
the impacts it had on the entire world, which had a role in starting the revolution and how did it help
build the country we know today as the United States of America.
In the year 1776 there were many things occurring in the Americas that created what we now know as
the United States of America. A few of those things include the emancipation that the United States
was trying to get from the British Empire. This separation can be seen as the society now known as
the United States trying to fit the model that had been starting to occur in many places. The model that
was used for the Americas to try and create their new country was that of Enlightenment.2
Enlightenment is the model that all human beings are equal which brought about the reasoning for the
colonies to break apart from the

Benefits Of Cooperative Learning For Student Engagement
Moreover, despite all those well documented benefits of cooperative learning, many teachers still do
not prefer to use this pedagogical practice in class, stated by Baines, Blatchford, and Kutnik (2003).
The fact is that the cooperative learning requires teachers to have high awareness of students learning,
good control of students challenging behaviors.
Based on the knowledge on cooperative learning, the approach of group work is introduced in the
following paragraphs as the chosen pedagogical approach for language teaching practice in stage 4.
Group work is an instructional strategy that allows teachers to address both intellectual and social
learning goals (Cohen, 1994; Galton, Hargreaves, Pell, 2009). The approach will be analyzed from
two aspects, one is the impact on students social and attitudinal improvements, and the other aspect is
on the academic gains.
Generally, Stage 4 is known as the transition stage. As emphasized in the Melbourne Declaration, the
effective transitions between primary and secondary schools are an important aspect of ensuring
student engagement (2008, p. 12). Student motivation and engagement in these years is critical, and
can be influenced by tailoring approaches to teaching, with learning activities and learning
environments that specifically consider the needs of middle year s students.
As required by the K 10 language syllabus (2003) for language learning in Stage 4, the learning ought
to promote a fair and just society that values

Invasion Into Italy Essay
The invasion into Italy was when he Allies decided to target Italy, which lay to the north, across the
Mediterranean sea. On July 10, 1943, the Allies began their invasion of Axis controlled Europe with
landings on the island of Sicily, off mainland Italy. Encountering little resistance from demoralized
Sicilian troops, Montgomery s 8th Army came ashore on the southeast part of the island, while the
U.S. 7th Army, under General George S. Patton, landed on Sicily s south coast. Within three days,
150,000 Allied troops were ashore. On August 17, Patton arrived in Messina before Montgomery,
completing the Allied conquest of Sicily and winning the so called Race to Messina. In September

Monte Cassino in the mistaken belief that it served as a German observation tower. The Allies were
wrong and their misguided attack alienated Catholics around the world. In September 1944, the
invasion of Italy came to end. Allied commanders on the ground believed they were poised to crush
the German line that stretched from Pisa to Florence. Allied commanders in Washington and London

Southern France. Therefore, divisions were transferred from Italy to this new theater. The complete

Most organizations do not like to implement strict password policies as this is relatively undesirable
by the organizations users. However, failure to implement such a policy leaves the organization very
vulnerable to someone being able to gain unauthorized access. There are several courses of action that
can be taken by the organization to mitigate this threat. One that would practically eliminate the threat
would be implement a multi factor authentication system. This requires that the user attempting to
authenticate must have multiple items to authenticate whether it is something they have such as an ID
card combined with something they know such as a PIN, or something they know such as their
username, and something they are such as a fingerprint. This form of authentication makes it almost
impossible for an unauthorized user to gain accesses, because if they are able to obtain one part of the
equation, say the part that someone knows, they must also obtain the second part which is something
that person has or is. Without these two separate keys, the unauthorized user won t be able to unlock
the door and obtain access to the organizations information resources. Although implementing a multi
factor authentication solution can be relatively expensive and time consuming. So if the organization
chooses to stay with a single factor authentication system, then they need to implement a strict
password policy that requires complex passwords, along

The Harlem Renaissance Of The 1920s
Hues are properties of light by which colors of objects are classified in reference to the spectrum. As
people, we decide what hue is intriguing, how it makes us feel, and unfortunately how it makes us
different. We are calmed by the blueness of water, and we are awakened by the yellowness of the sun.
It was not until the evil intentions of slavery crossed mankind s thoughts that hue became our
downfall, our separator. White supremacy eroded the idea of equality, and darker hues began to
symbolize worthlessness, inferiority, and ugliness. The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s evoked the
idea of black consciousness and pride. It was a movement established to express black literature, art,
music, and culture. Blacks began to wear their dark hue like a badge of honor. Art, literature, and
music became the centerpieces of black expression and culture. Blacks began to see themselves as
equals in their quest for status, fame, and acceptance from Whites. However, racism was still
abundant, lynches still occurred, and Blacks were still just as inferior as before. To make matters
worse, segregation still existed, but the color line was not only a separation of black and white; it
became a separation of black and black. Artist associated with the Harlem Renaissance, such as Zora
Neale Hurston, James Weldon Johnson, Claude McKay, and Jessie Fauset, often told stories of the
other with the purpose of gaining the attention of white Americans. Their works expose the racial

Hierarchy In America
Hierarchy, a system or organization in which people or groups are ranked one above the other
according to status or authority. In the United States, hierarchy is not uncommon. In Americanah by
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Ifemelu an African immigrant from Nigeria experiences the reality of
what the American Dream truly is like for an immigrant. Adichie uses her character s life as to show
how race affects her in America. Ifemelu moved to the United States with the illustration that she
would easily be able to get a job, go to school, find love and be able to send money home in Nigeria.
Instead, she was faced with many obstacles like racism. Racism is one of the major social issues of the
modern world. It affects millions of people worldwide and is one of the deepest social problems in the
United States.
Many Americans retain their belief in a race based hierarchy. When immigrants think of America they
think of the American Dream . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ifemelu didn t see herself as black and only became black when she came to America. In the United
States, the term black encompasses anyone with darker skin, despite origin or nationality. Ifemelu
exposes the ridiculousness of the term, which has no meaning apart from that which is assigned to it
socially. On her blog, she posts about what race means in America and says that race is not biology,
race is sociology. Race is not genotype, race is phenotype. Race matters because of racism. And
racism is absurd because it s about how you look. Not about the blood you have. It s about the shade
of your skin and the shape of your nose and the kink of your hair (337). It really doesn t matter where
Ifemelu comes from because she will always be considered black in America. No matter how hard she
and other African immigrants work to achieve their perfect American Dream . Their blackness will

Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse-Five Essay
A piece a cake, this is a phrase commonly used unlike the phrase so it goes. In the novel
Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut the phrase so it goes is used 106 times. This three worded
phrase does not seem like it has more meaning than the four worded phrase, a piece a cake, but it
actually plays an important part in the novel. The phrase so it goes is specifically used after a person
has died in the book, which occurs frequently. Vonnegut uses this phrase to demonstrate that whatever
happens in life happens and so it goes. Kurt Vonnegut starts off with the main character, Billy Pilgrim,
trying to find a meaning in this war world because he finds life meaningless. Tralfamadorians however
simply reply to a corpse by saying so it goes. Soon enough Billy starts seeing corpses the same way
and feeling nothing. He does not waste time to feel bad about the death of somebody, he just moves on

Wilson And Myrtle s Power In The Great Gatsby
Secrets can serve as powerful weapons, which Fitzgerald proves to be true throughout the novel and
Chapter Eight in particular. Daisy is the one driving the yellow car when it fatally hits Myrtle.
Although Daisy chooses to be with Tom over Gatsby, Gatsby still protects her. He lets Tom and
eventually Wilson think that he was the one driving, and Daisy does not tell anyone that she was the
one actually driving the car when it struck Myrtle. The only other person who knows who was really
driving the car is Nick, who does not tell anyone that Daisy was the one driving. Wilson is furious that

Wilson had no friends, and his only true relationship was with Myrtle. However, she did not love him,
and was cheating on him with Tom. Wilson also thought that Gatsby was the one who was in a
relationship with Myrtle, and that he is the one who killed Myrtle. I find it interesting and disturbing
the lengths the characters went to either protect the ones they love, or to keep themselves from being
alone. Gatsby was in love with Daisy, and did not cease to protect her even after she chose to be with
Tom. He did not want Daisy to get in trouble for killing Myrtle, and would rather take the blame than
have Daisy face the consequences of her actions. However, I am not sure if Gatsby did this because he
loved her, or because he was still clinging onto the hope that Daisy would choose to be with him.

Milk, Check-Personal Narrative Analysis
Toilet paper, Check. Milk, Check. Once again I ve caught myself ticking off a shopping list, it seems
like only yesterday I did the same thing. I was caught in the weekly drag, doomed to repeat the same
day over and over again, my own figurative Ground Hog Day.
Though, outside of my life, this day, or last couple of weeks however, has been far from normal; just
10 minutes down the road, the shopping center of Tiananmen Square staged a thousand body strong
protest for a democratic China. I myself joined in the protests for a day. Oh how great I thought it

The insanely loud firecrackers that I heard previously weren t something so innocent, but it was the
sound of automatic gunfire. These tanks, claiming to be part of the Chinese People s Liberation Army,
were heading to massacre their own people that they were sworn to protect. This war for democracy, is
now a literal, war for democracy; although I must say, calling it a war is unfair, because for it to be
war, both sides need to have a chance. 15 meters away now, and I still have no idea what to do, except

I thought wanted the best for it s people, is bringing tanks to fight against rocks. But if this was a war,
then that meant that I was the frontline, that I was the last chance for the people of China. Perhaps this
was a sign from god, he heard my whining about having a boring and repetitive life, and sent me this

Internal Changes In England During The 16th Century
During the sixteenth century England experienced many political, social and religious changes.
England was still recovering from the turmoil of the Hundred Year War (1337 1453) as well as dealing
with many other internal conflicts. Soon after the end of The Hundred Year war, civil wars now
referenced as the War of Roses broke out. These civil wars were a result of rivalry between branches
of the royal house of Plantagenet; the House of Lancaster and House of York who fought sporadically
for many years between 1455 and 1487. Other internal problems were related to the unstable
monarchy, and conflict between leading religions of Protestants and Catholics in England. Henry VIII
Edward VI and Mary I were all rulers following the Hundreds Year War. As a result of all the financial
strain from this war as well as tensions from internal conflict, these leaders rules were ineffective in
terms of finding compromise and rebuilding England. The sixteen hundreds in England was referred
to by historians as The Golden Age or Elizabethan Era. This was the era in which Queen Elizabeth I
(1558 1603) rose to power and ran a monarchy that was able to temporarily settle conflicts and
establish a sense of peace in a country that had been fighting both external and internal forces for
decades. The Elizabethan era was also a time of renewal and development in music and the arts of
England. It was during the sixteenth century that Italian culture, art, and music became very popular in
England.

Descriptive Essay On Christmas Eve
Have you ever spent hours and hours making and decorating cookies only two days before Christmas?
I have because every year on Christmas Eve my mom s whole side of the family comes to our house
for a party. I get to see some cousins that I barely ever get see. We spend the whole day from sunrise
to sunset together. Seeing them is amazing because sometimes you don t realize how much you miss
someone until you finally see them again.
Every Christmas Eve when we have the party everyone brings an amazing dish and almost everything
is completely gone by the end of the night. My aunt makes a ton of food and it is always so good that
just the smell can make your mouth water. Also, everyone brings food and it is so hard not to sneak
some food before everyone eats. My family and I go to my aunt s house and our two families decorate
enough cookies for everyone to have some. Last year I got to bring a friend and we had a lot of fun
decorating cookies. Everyone loves the taste and the design of all the cookies because they are all
different and delicious. We all spend time together then we eat dinner and we always leave snacks and
desserts out and they are so good. We always have soft sugar cookies with frosting on them and
usually we have someone bring brownies and they are so chocolatey they taste amazing and I can t
keep my hands off of them since they are so great.

Estate Planning Decisions
Creating an effective estate plan can occasionally feel daunting, but it doesn t have to be. Taking a few
simple steps today can help ensure that you and your family gain the maximum benefit from your hard
work and hard earned assets. By making the right estate planning decisions in your working years, you
re more likely to enjoy a successful retirement in the future while protecting your assets for
generations to come. Here are some basic strategies for starting, fine tuning or updating your estate
plan.
1) Create a Will
A surprising number of successful people including doctors, executives and business owners lack a
basic will. Others forget to sign their wills or update them regularly. Make sure you have a basic will
and that your document is up to date, has been signed and notarized. In addition, make sure that your
executor has a copy that can be easily found in the event of your death. Without a signed will, your
estate will be settled according to state laws in your state of residence, which may or may not reflect
your personal wishes.
2) Write a Letter of Instruction for Personal Belongings

trust offers privacy. Wills are public documents once they have been filed with your state of residence.

Bruce Ismay Essay
Remember when the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank? Well maybe it was not the icebergs fault. The
Titanic sank on April 14th, 1912. J. Bruce Ismay was the English businessman who served as a
Managing Director of the White Star Line of steamship. He traveled and survived the maiden voyage
of the RMS Titanic. Some remember Bruce as a coward that should have went down with the ship like
the other heroes did and others see him merely as a scapegoat who had some rather influential
enemies. Bruce got rescued in Collapsible Lifeboat C. J. Bruce Ismay is mostly at fault for the 1,500

The text states, The Titanic designer, Thomas Andrews was pushing for 48 lifeboats which would have
been enough to carry anyone on board. Ismay was footing the bill for the Titanic, and for whatever, he
said no to the 48 lifeboats. The text also states, Only twenty were placed on board. Because of his
choice, it puts him under some obligation to stay aboard the ship and take whatever comes. This
shows how if the 48 lifeboats didn t get footed, all 2,208 would have been able to make it out of the
Titanic. When ships put in lifeboats, they need to insure that they would have enough to get everyone
off the boat if something were to happen. On the contrary, some may say that Joseph Bruce Ismay is
innocent and Stanley Lord, captain of SS Californian, is mostly at fault. They say that because the SS
Californian was 19 miles away from the Titanic when it hit the iceberg, they were sending large white
lights in the sky and radio calling Stanley. Well they are wrong. They are wrong because Stanley Lord
s ship was surrounded by ice and tried contacting the Titanic. To say it again another way, Joseph
Bruce Ismay is mostly at fault for the 1,500 lives lost on April 14th, 1912. The reasons are he
demanded food right after the incident, lowered the amount of lifeboats, and he took a spot on the
lifeboat knowing women and children go

The Importance Of Personal Worldview And Personal Worldview
One man s kids describe a man with a passion for teaching younger kids. He really has an interest in
learning about kid s personalities and he has noticed that females and males act differently towards his
teaching position. People distinguish class worldview and personal worldview. Classical worldview is
the social consciousness of the class. Personal worldview is a system of views about nature, about
society and about oneself formed in each individual. It regulates the political, ethical, and other
ideological tendencies. It is a manifestation of the whole personality that governs the individual s
perceptions, attitudes and actions. In classed society, the personal worldview is classier. Therefore, in
the teaching process, it is necessary to pay full attention to the establishment of the scientific world
view for students so that they have the right thoughts, attitudes and correct actions. It is not easy to
change the doubts of men who are going to elementary education when there are very few of them.
This article emphasizes the different thoughts between women and men, how do men treat him and
how to be a teacher.
The concern for the care of the children is that the man in the story really cares about the kids by
dressing them up when they get hurt, sewing their dolls and finding shoes for them. When he went to

Women s Rights Are Human Rights Speech
When First Lady Hillary Clinton delivered her speech Women s Rights Are Human Rights at the
United Nations 4th World Conference in 1995, she focused on giving voice to the inequality of
women in countries around the world. Hoping to raise awareness about women s rights Clinton says,
We are focusing world attention on issues that matter most in our lives the lives of women and their
families. She expands on the statement by helping the men identify with the women in their lives such
as their mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters. Hillary effectively persuades the audience of delegates,
government officials, and people from around the world to identify with the need to empower,
strengthen and support women in their lives. In this speech, Hillary uses ethos, logos, pathos, and
repetition to successfully deliver a compelling argument for revolution. Admittedly, Hilary Clinton has
spoken around the world about the challenges that women have faced. However, it is the continued
struggle of American women that inspires and fuels her passion and fight for equality in this male
dominated culture. Also, while married to bill Clinton who was actively involved in women s right,
Hilary advocated for a standard of equality that embrace all colors and cultures. . Clinton establishes

Understanding Bipolar Disorder and Evaluating the Possible...

for. But, imagine a world where you cannot see the good one day, but then the next every single detail
of life is good. In order to understand what it is like to have your emotions throws around like they are

understand bipolar disorder, he would have to look at the life of a patient with the disorder, and

Bipolar I disorder may be defined as experiencing severe mood swings ranging from extreme
happiness to depression, and bipolar II disorder is a milder form of bipolar I disorder. Cyclothymic
disorder is the result of hypomania followed by intense phases of depression. Mixed bipolar disorder
is one of the most intense forms of bipolar disorder since patients experience signs of hypomania and
depression at the same time, but this differs from rapid cycling disorder because in rapid cycling
patients go through four or more phases of mania and depression in the same year (Goldberg, n.d, pp.
1, 5). Bipolar disorder may affect people of all ages, including children, and it affects men and women
equally. Finally, according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), 5.7 million Americans
are bipolar, and because of this, bipolar disorder is the sixth leading cause of disability in the United
States (Bipolar Disorder Statistics, n.d, p. 1). In addition to general information on the disorder, the
causes should be mentioned as well. According to Christian Nordqvist, ...bipolar disorder has no
single cause. However, it has been determined that genetics, chemicals, and the environment play a
role in the development of bipolar disorder. Furthermore, almost half of bipolar patients have a family

independent will that does not allow genetic influences or the environment to dictate our actions. We
have an infinite creative imagination that allows us to create beyond our reality but perhaps the most
uniquely human endowment we all possess is self awareness. Self awareness is the recognition of how
we feel and how we behave. It also allows us to examine why we exist and ultimately, that we are
going to die. While self preservation is a characteristic to both humans and animals, the understanding

While this study suggests that there is no need to be around similar people during times of
vulnerability, the researchers recognize that the individuals in these groups were mere observers and
not actually interacting with each other.
Another hypothesis that emerged from TMT research is the anxiety buffer hypothesis. This hypothesis
stresses the importance of high self esteem and how it can shield individuals from experiencing death
anxiety. Individuals with high self esteem feel that they are an ideal example of their culture and enjoy
the protection from the mortality concerns that their culture offers (Hirschberger et al., 2002).
Studies that exemplify the anxiety buffer hypothesis are those that link TMT and risky sexual
behaviors. In a 2004 study, researchers noted that by making mortality salient, a willingness to engage
in life threatening behaviors, such as unsafe sex, was reported (Orit Taubman, Ben Ari). This study
suggests that engaging in risky sex represents two facets of vulnerability related to the threat of death.
One is the absolute fear or extermination which is associated to having the risky sex and the other is
the need to love and have intimacy, a uniquely human trait that is related to self esteem. Basically,
when faced with mortality, humans yearn to fulfill their basic needs of love, even if that means risking
life itself (Orit Taubman,

Example Of A News Article Analysis
The news article I have chosen to analyze is an article in The Telegraph called Father kills sons friend
in revenge for drug death . In this news article, it tells the story of how a loving father, Roy Allison Sr.,
killed Duncan Bell, a friend of Roy Allison Jr, because of a suspicion that he supplied his son with
drugs that lead to his death. It was Roy Jr s birthday and close friend, Duncan Bell had drunkenly
given him ecstasy like drugs, which then led to his death. The father had so much overwhelming hate
and anger towards Bell that he had stabbed him to death. This is a very extreme case of revenge
because of the rash actions that Roy Allison had taken. I could certainly understand the anger at Bell
that Roy had, because he had loved

The Role Of Social Expectations Of A Role In A Social System
Concepts
RT classifies every individual as an actor that carries out a role (Kahn Fellows, 2013). Actors
perspective of social expectations leads them to formulate scripts for behaviors in a situation outlining
the actions of their role (Kahn Fellows, 2013; van der Horst, n.d). These social expectations direct
interactions with other actors of a group or system with the intention of gaining rewards or avoiding
consequences (Kahn Fellows, 2013). Each role within a social system has a role set, specifically the
many multiple relationships associated with a role (Kahn Fellows, 2013; McEwen Wills, 2010). For
instance, a foster parent has a role set consisting of other foster parents, biological parents of foster
children, social workers, guardian ad litem, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People occupy more than one role at any given time in their daily lives, as a consequence, can lead to
role strain. Role strain is when the expectations of one role affect the role expectations of another
(Kahn Fellows, 2013; McEwen Wills, 2010). For example, a foster mother, who is also a lawyer, has
to take off from work to stay at home with a foster child who has been suspended from school. The
role strain in this example is the foster mother is not able to be in court to carry out the role of a
lawyer, because she is at home in the role of a foster mother. Unfortunately, role strain can lead to role
conflict. RT explains that role conflict occurs when the expectations of one or more roles are not
compatible with another role (Kahn Fellows, 2013;

Gulag which stood for Glavnoc Upravlenie Lagerei or Main Camp Administration. In an extended
version Gulag could also stand for Glavnoe Upravlenie ispravitel no trudovykh LAGerei which means

Orientalism in M. Butterfly
She is petite, submissive, and great in bed, the greatest combination for the perfect woman. Yellow
fever is the psychological inclination towards Asian woman that has been expressed by a portion of
the male population. This stereotype is a part of orientalism that continues to be discussed amongst
today s society; it is deemed odd or labeled as a fetish. M. Butterfly a Tony Award playwright written
by David Henry Hwang consists of ideas related to orientalism through the layers developed in gender
identity, global politics and art forms. The play begins in the present 1988 with Rene Gallimard sitting
in a Paris prison. Gallimard declares himself as a celebrity, and relishes that his fame has spread to

Butterfly does not reflect the complications between the U.S. and China, but certainly depicts secret
intelligence being traded among the Chinese from an outlier source, French diplomat Rene Gallimard,
who did not realize this deception from his Perfect Woman , Song Liling. Before the full context of M.
Butterfly can be explored, it is important to establish the oriental stereotype that is expressed in the
play.
Oriental women have long been fetishized into a stereotype; they are depicted as submissive and
passive, and are silenced by the double pressure from race and sex , Oriental woman, as Said (1979)
states in Orientalism, is usually viewed ―with sexist blinders and serves as ―the creatures of a male
power fantasy and Asians as a whole are considered to be inferior and emasculated, easy targets for
exploitations and dominance. Asian woman, always caged and subordinate both in the patriarchic
society and in the Oriental rhetoric tradition, are natural subjects for the White s desire (Weilin).
This stereotype is still regarded in todays society. According to Prof. Dr. Opfermann and Prof. Dr.
Wippermann from Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, their thesis Orientalism in Contemporary
Asian American Literature Mounting Madame Butterfly on the Asian American Needle implies that
David Henry Hwang had two objectives in mind ... (1) Negating

Observation and Measurement in Human Services Research
Observation and measurement in human services research Types of reliability The theory of reliability
states that it is impossible to calculate the reliability of a study in an exact way. Instead, reliability is
estimated and this creates an imperfection in research. There are four major types of reliability. The
first is inter rater or inter observer reliability. This means the reliability that is used to assess the
degree to which the different people who are observing or rating the items being studied give
estimates that are consistent regarding the same phenomenon. A good example is the popular example
of a glass half empty and one that is half full. This is to mean that people who are in essence similar in
every nature may have different ideas or views of the same phenomenon. This kind of reliability is
estimated by using a pilot study which is used to establish the expected reliability in the main
study(Rosnow Rosenthal, 2012). The second form of reliability is the test retest reliability. This kind
of reliability is used to assess the consistency of a measure from one period of time to another. This
reliability is estimated when the same test is administered to the same sample group but at two
different periods in time. This approach makes an assumption that there is no substantial change in the
construct that is being measures in the two different occasions(Rosnow Rosenthal, 2012). The third
form of reliability is the parallel forms reliability. This form

A disaster can strike at any time. In fact, there are more than 35 types of disasters, ranging from the
most common – power outages to the most catastrophic – earthquakes. In essence, a disaster includes
any type of interruption of service that results from some force beyond the organization s control.
Disaster recovery provides systematic procedures for how to react to and how to recover from that
ominous external or internal force. Disaster recovery planning, which complements business
continuity and contingency planning, ensures the ability of the organization to function effectively if
an unforeseen event severely disrupted normal operations.
The following template will help the key individuals in your organization to go through the thought
process for preparing a disaster recovery plan, which s aimed at restoring all critical business
functions, rather than disparate functions such as the data center, alone.

Organize the Project
A successful initiative of this magnitude requires these things: support from senior management
associated with the organization, a dedicated disaster recovery team whose members have knowledge
of critical business systems, and a well thought out planning strategy and testing strategy. The disaster
recovery coordinator, working with the appropriate team leaders, should perform steps 3 to 7. Senior

Willard T. Sears Analysis
A boy, about five or six years of age, stands holding the reins of his black pull toy horse, complete
with leather reins, saddle and whip. Dressed in a blue top with lace detailing around the neck and
wrists with white pants and small black shoes, the boy stands upon an intricately detailed mustard and
brown patterned floor. To his left stands an elegant wood table and a dramatic dark red drape behind it.
An aura of power, privilege and wealth seems to surround this young boy as he stares at his audience
with captivating deep brown eyes. Although young, he seems to have already taken the reins of his
life, both figuratively and physically. His name is Willard T. Sears.

Maximilien Robespierre And The Reign Of Terror Of The...
Maximilien Robespierre was a revolutionary who significantly influenced and justified the Reign of
Terror. The Reign of Terror was a dark and violent time during the French Revolution. It began when
the Girondins were overthrown by the Jacobins, who were led by Robespierre. Later, the members of
the government had lost to the Jacobins and sans culottes, thus the king was executed. The Jacobins
were the driving force of the Reign of Terror, while Robespierre was the mastermind. The Girondins
were a branch of the Jacobins but they were conservatives and less radical. The Jacobins were the
most radical and ruthless of the political groups, and they identified themselves with the common
people, also known as the sans culottes. In response to their poverty stricken life under the Ancien
Régime, most of the sans culottes became revolutionaries and militant supporters of the French
Revolution. The sans culottes saw popular violence as a political right, therefore they attacked
anything or anyone who was against the revolution. They were determined to avoid street violence,
hence taking violence into their own hands as an instrument of the government. (Linton, Marisa 2006)
In association with Robespierre, the Jacobins started the Reign of Terror. Robespierre and the Jacobins
began to concentrate their power in spreading the Reign of Terror when they dominated the National
Convention. Without delay, they made various harsh laws to frighten anyone who disagreed with
them.

The Relationship Between Ethical Consumerism And Hebden...
Throughout the investigation that we conducted in two different locations we found out that possibly
ethical consumerism and awareness is more popular in more affluent locations such as Hebden Bridge
due to a higher budget for the average person, in addition I have realised in lime square ethical
products are cheaper therefore stillgiving it a chance in todays market. On the other hand we also
gathered that the majority of non ethically produced products are made in LEDC regions therefore
ethically produced products could spare people the hardship in certain circumstances . In lime square
there is a need for affordable and descent quality products due to lower budgets thus less ethically
produced products thus leading to less ethical awareness as people may regard ethical products such as
fairtrade (products) to be overpriced thus a less attractive option. Sugar in lime square costs £0.99
which is non ethically produced and sold in cheap quality paper bags however sugar from Hebden
Bridge which also is produced in Mexico costs £2.00 but is organic and ethically produced, this is a
good example of how in more densley populated and commerically aware locations products may be
cheaper and non ethically produced furthermore only benefitting customers.

The Value Of Fair Value
The fair value option allow all entities to select and measure eligible items at a fair value at a specified
date. The decision involved in whether to elect the fair value option have following conditions. The
conditions include that it could be applied instrument by instrument, could be irrevocable which
means it cannot be changed and the last condition is applying only to instrument and not to only
specified risks, specific cash flows, or portions of that instrument. The fair value option allows
business entities to use fair value to measure specific financial assets and financial liabilities in
accordance with their own needs and in the initial and subsequent measurement. FASC 825 10 25
One of the main advantages of fair value accounting is that it provides a basis for reporting financial

My Little Sister, By Lizbeth Galarza
Dear teacher, allow me to provide you with some insight on who my little sister, Lizbeth Galarza, truly
is. At first glance, she might look like every other Ecuadorian girl with her thick dark brown hair,
deep, small brown eyes, and her short legs; but don t let that fool you her small legs have already
taken her so far in life. At 15 years old, she has learned to identify herself as being both Ecuadorian
and American and being proud of both parts of her, which wasn t so easy for her. She has achieved this
by being surrounded by two completely different environments, one at home and the other at school.
Being Ecuadorian has helped my sister out since the early stages of her life. This was most evident
when as a baby my mother made sure she swaddled her as tightly as she could so in the future she
would have a straight back and know how to stand straight in order to hold her head up high when
facing those who tried to discourage her. Because my mother knew that being latin and coming from a
big family, her little girl was not only going to have to face the judgment of people who thought they
were better than her simply based on race but she would also have to face the judgment of those
closest to her who would judge her because she didn t meet their now obsolescent expectations of who
she was supposed to grow into. My mother also made sure Lizbeth knew how lucky she was for
having all these opportunities to become whatever she wanted in life. As a baby, my sister was

Secondary Data
Tips for Collecting, Reviewing, and Analyzing Secondary Data
WHAT IS SECONDARY DATA REVIEW AND ANALYSIS?
Secondary data analysis can be literally defined as second hand analysis. It is the analysis of data or
information that was either gathered by someone else (e.g., researchers, institutions, other NGOs, etc.)
or for some other purpose than the one currently being considered, or often a combination of the two
(Cnossen 1997).
If secondary research and data analysis is undertaken with care and diligence, it can provide a cost
effective way of gaining a broader understanding of specific phenomena and/or conducting
preliminary needs assessments.
Secondary data are also helpful in designing subsequent primary research and, as ... Show more

only what is happing in a particular area but also why it is happening (which will be discussed in
greater detail on page 6 of this document).
SOURCES OF SECONDARY DATA
Official Statistics: Official statistics are statistics collected by governments and their various agencies,
bureaus, and departments. These statistics can be useful to researchers because they are an easily
obtainable and comprehensive source of information that usually covers long periods of time.
However, because official statistics are often characterized by unreliability, data gaps, over
aggregation, inaccuracies, mutual inconsistencies, and lack of timely reporting (Gill 1993), it is
important to critically analyze official statistics for accuracy and validity. There are several reasons
why these problems exist:
1. The scale of official surveys generally requires large numbers of enumerators (interviewers) and, in
order to reach those numbers enumerators contracted are often under skilled;
2. The size of the survey area and research team usually prohibits adequate supervision of enumerators
and the research process; and
3. Resource limitations (human and technical) often

on South Vancouver Island has been an on going issue since its conception back in 1861 when it was
built as a cattle trail, then up graded to wagon road status in 1884 and eventually paved in 1911

Why is United States Voter Turn out so Low
Question 4) What are some explanations for why voter turnout is so low in the U.S. compared to other
wealthy, literate and democratic countries?
INTRODUCTION Voter turnout is the rate by which people vote in elections. The simplest way to
calculate a given election s turnout rate is to compare the actual number of voters with the voting age
population. Voter turnout in the United States is among the worlds lowest. (E.S. 371) The graph below

The Decline of Social Capital in the United States This factor is often overlooked as a reason
impacting voter turnout but it is important nonetheless. The term social capital has been subject to
various definitions over time. Basically, what this term refers to is the variety of social ties between
individuals, and the differing connections that arise between individuals as a result of participating in
various activities and organizations. It should be noted that membership in civic organizations has
steadily declined since the late 1950s. This decline in social capital means that people participate in
group activities less, trust others less, and are generally more cynical, just to name a few of the
symptoms.
Many scholars believe that falling civic organization membership and the general decline in our Social
Capital has negatively impacted voter turnout. (Kaufmann. 145) To summarize, people in the United
States are less involved with other groups and other people as a whole, so it is only logical to feel they
would be less involved or interest in our political and governmental future.
The weakening of our political parties Unlike parties in many other countries, political parties in the
U.S. are relatively weak in terms of their ability to mobilize voters to register and ultimately vote on
election day. This inability to mobilize voters has direct correlation to the fact that membership and
affiliation in political

  • 2. Issue Reparation Essay The issues reparations bring are multifaceted and complex, ranging from how reparations will be paid to dealing with varying public responses. A thorough investigation is required to fully identify the problems and provide any solutions. The issue of reparations is not singular to the current debates in the US. Both in other countries and in the US before, some semblance of reparations have transpired. After the Second World War, both the United States and Canada enacted legislation for reparations for the interned Japanese Americans and Japanese Canadians (Wood). Canada s laws focused on rebuilding the affected communities, while the USA focused on reconciliation and education to hopefully prevent a repetition of Executive Order 9066. Canada created the Japanese Canadian Redress Foundation which then gave more than $17 million to housing for the elderly and to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 40 (Coates). The bill, which was re introduced every session of congress since 1989, would initiate a four step plan towards reparations (Conyers). The injustice and inhumanity of slavery would be acknowledged, a commission would be established to research the effects of slavery economically and socially, then the commission would look into the effects of those forces on current day African Americans, as well as recommend appropriate remedies to Congress based on this research. This four tiered plan would be capable of implementing reparations after studious research, backed by the government and therefore the people. However, this bill has never made it past this early stage, despite the 28 years put into making it an accessible debate topic. Even outside of politics the issue isn t widely debated or discussed. How has such a well thought out plan not been given any recognition or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Impact Of The American Revolution On The United States Of... The United States revolution is one of the most important revolutions to occur in history because it can be seen as the most significant revolution to transpire in modern time. This can be shown through the role that the revolution had in creating the country that we know today. Why was it that the American Revolution occurs, was it for independence or was it based on something else? In the American Revolution there were many leaders who aided in creating the United States, who were they and what was the costs that came out of the revolution they helped start. What kinds of impact did the American Revolution have on the rest of the world at the time? Throughout this paper it will examine the impacts it had on the entire world, which had a role in starting the revolution and how did it help build the country we know today as the United States of America. In the year 1776 there were many things occurring in the Americas that created what we now know as the United States of America. A few of those things include the emancipation that the United States was trying to get from the British Empire. This separation can be seen as the society now known as the United States trying to fit the model that had been starting to occur in many places. The model that was used for the Americas to try and create their new country was that of Enlightenment.2 Enlightenment is the model that all human beings are equal which brought about the reasoning for the colonies to break apart from the ... • 4. Benefits Of Cooperative Learning For Student Engagement Moreover, despite all those well documented benefits of cooperative learning, many teachers still do not prefer to use this pedagogical practice in class, stated by Baines, Blatchford, and Kutnik (2003). The fact is that the cooperative learning requires teachers to have high awareness of students learning, good control of students challenging behaviors. Based on the knowledge on cooperative learning, the approach of group work is introduced in the following paragraphs as the chosen pedagogical approach for language teaching practice in stage 4. Group work is an instructional strategy that allows teachers to address both intellectual and social learning goals (Cohen, 1994; Galton, Hargreaves, Pell, 2009). The approach will be analyzed from two aspects, one is the impact on students social and attitudinal improvements, and the other aspect is on the academic gains. Generally, Stage 4 is known as the transition stage. As emphasized in the Melbourne Declaration, the effective transitions between primary and secondary schools are an important aspect of ensuring student engagement (2008, p. 12). Student motivation and engagement in these years is critical, and can be influenced by tailoring approaches to teaching, with learning activities and learning environments that specifically consider the needs of middle year s students. As required by the K 10 language syllabus (2003) for language learning in Stage 4, the learning ought to promote a fair and just society that values ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Encountering little resistance from demoralized Sicilian troops, Montgomery s 8th Army came ashore on the southeast part of the island, while the U.S. 7th Army, under General George S. In the first phase of this newest campaign, Allied bombers destroyed the ancient monastery on top of Monte Cassino in the mistaken belief that it served as a German observation tower. The Allies were wrong and their misguided attack alienated Catholics around the world. In September 1944, the invasion of Italy came to end. Allied commanders on the ground believed they were poised to crush the German line that stretched from Pisa to Florence. Allied commanders in Washington and London decided that the cross channel invasion of France launched the previous in June. An invasion of Southern France. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most organizations do not like to implement strict password policies as this is relatively undesirable by the organizations users. However, failure to implement such a policy leaves the organization very vulnerable to someone being able to gain unauthorized access. There are several courses of action that can be taken by the organization to mitigate this threat. One that would practically eliminate the threat would be implement a multi factor authentication system. This requires that the user attempting to authenticate must have multiple items to authenticate whether it is something they have such as an ID card combined with something they know such as a PIN, or something they know such as their username, and something they are such as a fingerprint. This form of authentication makes it almost impossible for an unauthorized user to gain accesses, because if they are able to obtain one part of the equation, say the part that someone knows, they must also obtain the second part which is something that person has or is. Without these two separate keys, the unauthorized user won t be able to unlock the door and obtain access to the organizations information resources. Although implementing a multi factor authentication solution can be relatively expensive and time consuming. So if the organization chooses to stay with a single factor authentication system, then they need to implement a strict password policy that requires complex passwords, along ... • 7. The Harlem Renaissance Of The 1920s Hues are properties of light by which colors of objects are classified in reference to the spectrum. As people, we decide what hue is intriguing, how it makes us feel, and unfortunately how it makes us different. We are calmed by the blueness of water, and we are awakened by the yellowness of the sun. It was not until the evil intentions of slavery crossed mankind s thoughts that hue became our downfall, our separator. White supremacy eroded the idea of equality, and darker hues began to symbolize worthlessness, inferiority, and ugliness. The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s evoked the idea of black consciousness and pride. It was a movement established to express black literature, art, music, and culture. Blacks began to wear their dark hue like a badge of honor. Art, literature, and music became the centerpieces of black expression and culture. Blacks began to see themselves as equals in their quest for status, fame, and acceptance from Whites. However, racism was still abundant, lynches still occurred, and Blacks were still just as inferior as before. To make matters worse, segregation still existed, but the color line was not only a separation of black and white; it became a separation of black and black. Artist associated with the Harlem Renaissance, such as Zora Neale Hurston, James Weldon Johnson, Claude McKay, and Jessie Fauset, often told stories of the other with the purpose of gaining the attention of white Americans. • 8. Hierarchy In America Hierarchy, a system or organization in which people or groups are ranked one above the other according to status or authority. In the United States, hierarchy is not uncommon. In Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Ifemelu an African immigrant from Nigeria experiences the reality of what the American Dream truly is like for an immigrant. Adichie uses her character s life as to show how race affects her in America. Ifemelu moved to the United States with the illustration that she would easily be able to get a job, go to school, find love and be able to send money home in Nigeria. Instead, she was faced with many obstacles like racism. Racism is one of the major social issues of the modern world. It affects millions of people worldwide and is one of the deepest social problems in the United States. Many Americans retain their belief in a race based hierarchy. When immigrants think of America they think of the American Dream . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ifemelu didn t see herself as black and only became black when she came to America. In the United States, the term black encompasses anyone with darker skin, despite origin or nationality. Ifemelu exposes the ridiculousness of the term, which has no meaning apart from that which is assigned to it socially. On her blog, she posts about what race means in America and says that race is not biology, race is sociology. Race is not genotype, race is phenotype. Race matters because of racism. And racism is absurd because it s about how you look. Not about the blood you have. It s about the shade of your skin and the shape of your nose and the kink of your hair (337). It really doesn t matter where Ifemelu comes from because she will always be considered black in America. No matter how hard she and other African immigrants work to achieve their perfect American Dream . In the novel Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut the phrase so it goes is used 106 times. This three worded phrase does not seem like it has more meaning than the four worded phrase, a piece a cake, but it actually plays an important part in the novel. The phrase so it goes is specifically used after a person has died in the book, which occurs frequently. Vonnegut uses this phrase to demonstrate that whatever happens in life happens and so it goes. Kurt Vonnegut starts off with the main character, Billy Pilgrim, trying to find a meaning in this war world because he finds life meaningless. The only other person who knows who was really driving the car is Nick, who does not tell anyone that Daisy was the one driving. He did not want Daisy to get in trouble for killing Myrtle, and would rather take the blame than have Daisy face the consequences of her actions. • 12. Internal Changes In England During The 16th Century During the sixteenth century England experienced many political, social and religious changes. England was still recovering from the turmoil of the Hundred Year War (1337 1453) as well as dealing with many other internal conflicts. Soon after the end of The Hundred Year war, civil wars now referenced as the War of Roses broke out. These civil wars were a result of rivalry between branches of the royal house of Plantagenet; the House of Lancaster and House of York who fought sporadically for many years between 1455 and 1487. Other internal problems were related to the unstable monarchy, and conflict between leading religions of Protestants and Catholics in England. Henry VIII Edward VI and Mary I were all rulers following the Hundreds Year War. As a result of all the financial strain from this war as well as tensions from internal conflict, these leaders rules were ineffective in terms of finding compromise and rebuilding England. The sixteen hundreds in England was referred to by historians as The Golden Age or Elizabethan Era. This was the era in which Queen Elizabeth I (1558 1603) rose to power and ran a monarchy that was able to temporarily settle conflicts and establish a sense of peace in a country that had been fighting both external and internal forces for decades. The Elizabethan era was also a time of renewal and development in music and the arts of England. It was during the sixteenth century that Italian culture, art, and music became very popular in England. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By making the right estate planning decisions in your working years, you re more likely to enjoy a successful retirement in the future while protecting your assets for generations to come. Here are some basic strategies for starting, fine tuning or updating your estate plan. 1) Create a Will A surprising number of successful people including doctors, executives and business owners lack a basic will. Because of his choice, it puts him under some obligation to stay aboard the ship and take whatever comes. We have an infinite creative imagination that allows us to create beyond our reality but perhaps the most uniquely human endowment we all possess is self awareness. While this study suggests that there is no need to be around similar people during times of vulnerability, the researchers recognize that the individuals in these groups were mere observers and not actually interacting with each other. Another hypothesis that emerged from TMT research is the anxiety buffer hypothesis. This hypothesis stresses the importance of high self esteem and how it can shield individuals from experiencing death anxiety. Individuals with high self esteem feel that they are an ideal example of their culture and enjoy the protection from the mortality concerns that their culture offers (Hirschberger et al., 2002). Studies that exemplify the anxiety buffer hypothesis are those that link TMT and risky sexual behaviors. In a 2004 study, researchers noted that by making mortality salient, a willingness to engage in life threatening behaviors, such as unsafe sex, was reported (Orit Taubman, Ben Ari). This study suggests that engaging in risky sex represents two facets of vulnerability related to the threat of death. One is the absolute fear or extermination which is associated to having the risky sex and the other is the need to love and have intimacy, a uniquely human trait that is related to self esteem. Basically, when faced with mortality, humans yearn to fulfill their basic needs of love, even if that means risking life itself (Orit Taubman, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Observation and Measurement in Human Services Research Observation and measurement in human services research Types of reliability The theory of reliability states that it is impossible to calculate the reliability of a study in an exact way. Instead, reliability is estimated and this creates an imperfection in research. There are four major types of reliability. The first is inter rater or inter observer reliability. This means the reliability that is used to assess the degree to which the different people who are observing or rating the items being studied give estimates that are consistent regarding the same phenomenon. A good example is the popular example of a glass half empty and one that is half full. This is to mean that people who are in essence similar in every nature may have different ideas or views of the same phenomenon. This kind of reliability is estimated by using a pilot study which is used to establish the expected reliability in the main study(Rosnow Rosenthal, 2012). The second form of reliability is the test retest reliability. This kind of reliability is used to assess the consistency of a measure from one period of time to another. This reliability is estimated when the same test is administered to the same sample group but at two different periods in time. This approach makes an assumption that there is no substantial change in the construct that is being measures in the two different occasions(Rosnow Rosenthal, 2012). The Reign of Terror was a dark and violent time during the French Revolution. It began when the Girondins were overthrown by the Jacobins, who were led by Robespierre. Later, the members of the government had lost to the Jacobins and sans culottes, thus the king was executed. The Jacobins were the driving force of the Reign of Terror, while Robespierre was the mastermind. The Girondins were a branch of the Jacobins but they were conservatives and less radical. • 35. My Little Sister, By Lizbeth Galarza Dear teacher, allow me to provide you with some insight on who my little sister, Lizbeth Galarza, truly is. At first glance, she might look like every other Ecuadorian girl with her thick dark brown hair, deep, small brown eyes, and her short legs; but don t let that fool you her small legs have already taken her so far in life. At 15 years old, she has learned to identify herself as being both Ecuadorian and American and being proud of both parts of her, which wasn t so easy for her. She has achieved this by being surrounded by two completely different environments, one at home and the other at school. Being Ecuadorian has helped my sister out since the early stages of her life. This was most evident when as a baby my mother made sure she swaddled her as tightly as she could so in the future she would have a straight back and know how to stand straight in order to hold her head up high when facing those who tried to discourage her. Because my mother knew that being latin and coming from a big family, her little girl was not only going to have to face the judgment of people who thought they were better than her simply based on race but she would also have to face the judgment of those closest to her who would judge her because she didn t meet their now obsolescent expectations of who she was supposed to grow into. My mother also made sure Lizbeth knew how lucky she was for having all these opportunities to become whatever she wanted in life. As a baby, my sister was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Secondary Data Tips for Collecting, Reviewing, and Analyzing Secondary Data WHAT IS SECONDARY DATA REVIEW AND ANALYSIS? Secondary data analysis can be literally defined as second hand analysis. It is the analysis of data or information that was either gathered by someone else (e.g., researchers, institutions, other NGOs, etc.) or for some other purpose than the one currently being considered, or often a combination of the two (Cnossen 1997). If secondary research and data analysis is undertaken with care and diligence, it can provide a cost effective way of gaining a broader understanding of specific phenomena and/or conducting preliminary needs assessments. Secondary data are also helpful in designing subsequent primary research and, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Analysis of data gives you the information that you need to make judgements, recommend areas of intervention, and/or design follow up studies. Cross analyzing data will also help you understand not only what is happing in a particular area but also why it is happening (which will be discussed in greater detail on page 6 of this document). SOURCES OF SECONDARY DATA Official Statistics: Official statistics are statistics collected by governments and their various agencies, bureaus, and departments. These statistics can be useful to researchers because they are an easily obtainable and comprehensive source of information that usually covers long periods of time. However, because official statistics are often characterized by unreliability, data gaps, over aggregation, inaccuracies, mutual inconsistencies, and lack of timely reporting (Gill 1993), it is important to critically analyze official statistics for accuracy and validity. There are several reasons why these problems exist: 1. The scale of official surveys generally requires large numbers of enumerators (interviewers) and, in order to reach those numbers enumerators contracted are often under skilled; 2. The size of the survey area and research team usually prohibits adequate supervision of enumerators and the research process; and 3. Resource limitations (human and technical) often ... • 38. Essay on How to Make the Malahat Safer How to Make the Malahat Safer The debate about how to improve the treacherously narrow and winding Malahat Mountain Highway on South Vancouver Island has been an on going issue since its conception back in 1861 when it was built as a cattle trail, then up graded to wagon road status in 1884 and eventually paved in 1911 (Commission). Currently vital safety upgrades are underway such as concrete barriers to divide the road lanes and stabilization solutions for falling debris. The presence of physical law enforcement units on the highway to manage problems like cell phone usage, impaired drivers and vehicles that are ill equipped for weather conditions is a necessary and crucial part of maintaining safety on the Malahat (Unit). However, due ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Construction will encounter further delays due to the precautions that need to be taken to ensure the safety of workers and travellers while work is completed on the busy highway. These delays add to the already significant financial cost of implementing these ideas for widening and improving the existing highway. The economic cost associated with the different proposed options of development for the highway range from an estimated 200 million dollars to 1billion dollars (Transportation). The cheapest option includes upgrades to only a total of 18.8 km (Transportation)of road, and does not allow for a alternate emergency route, as well as still maintaining an inadequate capacity rate and limited improvements over all (Transportation). There are several different options that fall somewhere in the middle of these two extremes both in cost and improvement outcomes. These options vary in estimated costs of 300 million 600 million dollars and would improve anywhere from 19.1km 26.2 km of the current highway. (Transportation) These proposed options have a range of different outcomes, the majority do not fully address all of the issues and the ones that do, do so with significant ... • 39. Why Is Voter Turnout Low in Us FA13 SOCI 101 1099 Prin. of Sociology Online Essay Why is United States Voter Turn out so Low Question 4) What are some explanations for why voter turnout is so low in the U.S. compared to other wealthy, literate and democratic countries? INTRODUCTION Voter turnout is the rate by which people vote in elections. The simplest way to calculate a given election s turnout rate is to compare the actual number of voters with the voting age population. Voter turnout in the United States is among the worlds lowest. (E.S. 371) The graph below taken from an article written for the Huffington Post in 2012, illustrates how poor United States voter turnout has been as compared to other industrialized nations. Our voter turnout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Decline of Social Capital in the United States This factor is often overlooked as a reason impacting voter turnout but it is important nonetheless. The term social capital has been subject to various definitions over time. Basically, what this term refers to is the variety of social ties between individuals, and the differing connections that arise between individuals as a result of participating in various activities and organizations. It should be noted that membership in civic organizations has steadily declined since the late 1950s. This decline in social capital means that people participate in group activities less, trust others less, and are generally more cynical, just to name a few of the symptoms. Many scholars believe that falling civic organization membership and the general decline in our Social Capital has negatively impacted voter turnout. (Kaufmann. 145) To summarize, people in the United States are less involved with other groups and other people as a whole, so it is only logical to feel they would be less involved or interest in our political and governmental future. The weakening of our political parties Unlike parties in many other countries, political parties in the U.S. are relatively weak in terms of their ability to mobilize voters to register and ultimately vote on election day. This inability to mobilize voters has direct correlation to the fact that membership and affiliation in political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
