Crime And Containment Theory Analysis
Reflecting back on when I was 18 years old I walked out of a pizza place without paying. It was over
the summer before school started up again, and I was with two of my best friends from high school.
After this class and covering many different understandings of crime and delinquency, I was able to
integrate some ideas on why I committed the crime and possibly why others commit crime. Focusing
on Jack Katz Chapter 2 Cheap Thrills, Cohen, Reckless, and Hirschi s theories I was able to analysis
my crime compared to an overall reasoning of why people commit crimes. Comparing my crime to
Sneaky Thrills of Katz ideas on crime and why people steal, specifically why did I steal. Sneaky thrills

In my understanding, there is no true way of knowing why people commit crimes, but there can be
explanations or inclinations to show a process or system that is not working or shows patterns that can
help prevent crimes. In the beginning I tried to justify my crime, but acknowledging the different
theories and how some overlap with one another and even contradict shows that human behavior can
simply be just sporadic, in the moment with no real intention. Katz discusses this sporadic moment in
which people steal for the thrill as a general overarching idea, which can lead to looking more
specifically at Cohen s idea that in my case there was some peer influence that could have lead me to
committing the crime. There was also a connection between Reckless and Hirschi in how they both
talk about family, school, and community which again can relate back to peer influence or subcultures
that could occur when people feel secluded or how the minorities being lead into a life of

The American Red Cross And Other Organizations At Purnell...
On Monday, October 17th I volunteered to help the American Red Cross and other organizations at
Purnell Swett High School. I was directed to a woman named Priscilla who oversaw a portion of the
outdoor area. Our group was quite diverse. It consisted of young high school and college students,
middle aged parents, some senior citizens, and even a girl who appeared to be no more than nine years
old. Everyone was in good spirits despite the recent tragedy. Our task seemed to be simple enough,
however, we would soon discover it was going to take more planning. We were assigned to the rear of
the school where we would sort through various bags and boxes of donations. Priscilla directed some
of us to carry items to different rooms based on their size and whether the clothes were designed more
males or females, children or adults. As organized piles began to form, these volunteers posted signs
indicating the sizes in those piles. Priscilla asked a different group to take the flat boxes and fold and
tape them to allow packing of the clothes. Another set of people were instructed to write the names of
the recipients on the boxes. The final group, which later consisted of those who completed their share
of the work already, was assigned to fill the boxes with appropriate items and seal them for delivery.
Thanks to the strong leadership skills of Priscilla and the tireless efforts of the volunteers, we were
successful! She was wise to divide our large group into smaller substations.

A. Urie Bronfenbrenner’S Ecological Systems Theory Looks
A. Urie Bronfenbrenner s Ecological Systems Theory looks at the development of a child as
happening within an intricate system of relationships affected by various levels of their environment.
Bronfenbrenner called his theory a bioecological model because the child s biological attributes mesh
with the environment to further development. There are 5 different systems that make up the child s
surrounding environment. The distinct systems are the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem,
macrosystem, and the chronosystem. The microsystem is the first layer of the environment. It consists
of the child s immediate surroundings and the direct interactions involved within. ... Show more

Some examples include the parents workplaces, religious institutions, and even any place they receive
government help. Some more informal surroundings of the exosystem include the parents social
networks such as friends and extended family who provide advice, assistance, and friendship to the
parents. The fourth layer of the environment is the macrosystem. The macrosystem contains cultural
values, customs, resources, and laws. The more the macrosystem prioritizes children s needs, the more
support they get at the more inner levels of the environment. It also works the other way around. For
example, in countries that emphasize laws which give generous benefits to employed parents or even
laws that prioritize a higher standard of education, children see more support and have more beneficial
experiences in their immediate surroundings. The last system is the chronosystem. According to
Bronfenbrenner, the environment is a dynamic influence on a child s development. There are always
new environmental conditions being created for the child. The timing of the ever changing
environment also matters in terms of the child s circumstance and age at the time of environmental
change. The chronosystem consists of temporal environmental changes and

Essay on The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien
The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien is a short story written about the Vietnam War. The title has
two meanings. The first is their duties and equipment for the war. The second, the emotional sorrows
they were put through while at war. Their wants and needs, the constant worry of death were just a
few of the emotional baggage they carried. During the Vietnam War, like all wars, there were hard
times. Being a soldier wasn t easy. Soldiers always see death, whether it be another soldier or an
enemy. In The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien explores the motivation of solders in the Vietnam
War to understand their role in combat, to stay in good health, and accept the death of a fellow soldier.

If the soldiers found a weapon worth carrying they would pick it up such as, captured AK 47 s and
black market Uzis. All of the men in the platoon carried sentimental items. Some carried good luck
items and some just souvenirs from their tour. For example Jimmy Cross carried pictures and letters
from a girl that didn t love him like he wanted. Kiowa carried a bible. Henry Dobbins carried his
girlfriend s panty hose around his neck. Norman Bowker carried a thumb from a corpse that was given
to him by Mitchell Sanders. Towards the end of the story Lieutenant Cross realizes he is not doing his
job well if he is thinking about Martha. After Lavender is shot, Cross decides that he is going to
straighten up and be the leader he should have been all along. Cross blames himself for Lavender s
death. He felt shame. He hated himself. He had loved Martha more than his men, and as a
consequence Lavender was dead, and this was something he would have to carry like a stone in his
stomach for the rest of war. (O Brien 101) Immediately, Cross has a talk about his new expectations.
Commencing immediately, he d tell them, they would no longer abandon equipment along the route of
march. They would police up their acts, they would get their shit together, and keep it together, and
maintain it neatly and in a good working order. (O Brien 105) After Lavender is killed, Cross has the
motivation to fulfill his role in war as the leader of the platoon. In a war

The Effects Of Video Advertisements On Society Essay
Introduction
Video advertisements are quick and momentary but their influence is pervasive and prolonged. The
power of video advertisements shape norms and common societal expectations on how a person
should look and behave. Overtime these gender roles (societal expectations associated with men and
women) and behaviors become implicit thus implying normal (or in some instances ideal) men and
women should exhibit these qualities and characteristics. Subconsciously, video advertisements
impact a person s perception of what it means and what it takes to be a man or woman. The objective
of this paper is to observe secondary socialization, ...learning behaviors and attitudes associated with
specific situations and roles... , in YouTube video advertisements by comparing recurring patterns,
symbols, statuses, and roles directed to men and women (Lecture Notes Nalkur 7). In addition, this
paper seeks to explain how YouTube video advertisements act as socializing agents by portraying
arguably exaggerated yet stereotypical traits of men and women that influence watchers perceptions
and beliefs about their own gender identity and that of others.
Methods
The approach of this study was to obtain a total of eight YouTube video advertisements. Four of which
focus on women/women s products and the other four video advertisements focus on men/men s
products. The YouTube video advertisements were obtained randomly by watching the YouTube
channels I normally visit. All video ads were obtained

Renewable Energy For The Changing World
Karina Vanous Smith
Political Economy 13 January 2015
Renewable Energy for the Changing World
Currently, there is a call for alternative energies to replace our harmful energy sources that are
bringing the world closer and closer to global warming. As of right now, America s economy is mostly
dependent on destructive fossil fuels for its energy supply. Our country is producing a quarter of the
world s pollution. Usage of fossil fuels has increasingly contributed to the CO2 emissions, which is
polluting our environment. It is destroying natural habitats and causing an increase in health problems.
If our harmful methods continue, our planet will eventually become uninhabitable. Fossil fuels are
considered a nonrenewable resource, which means we are required to find a new and clean renewable
energy source. These new energy sources must be readily available for the world s energy demands.
Our vision should focus on environmentally friendly and efficient energies such as wind and solar
power. Becoming more dependent on wind and solar power would mean having an infinite amount of
energy and create more job opportunities, which would help the world s economy as well.
Americans use wind and solar energy because they are not only environmentally friendly, but are
affordable and an abundant source of energy. The United States has some of the best wind resources in
the world, with enough potential energy to produce nearly 10 times the country s existing power needs

Improving Airport Security
How can airport security be more advance and safe around the world? Airport security attempts to
prevent any threats or potentially dangerous situations from arising or entering the country. If airport
security does succeed in this, then the chances of any dangerous situations, illegal items or threats
entering into aircraft, country or airport are greatly reduced. As such, airport security serves several
purposes: To protect the airport and country from any threatening events, to reassure the traveling
public that they are safe and to protect the country and their people. There are many ways to improve
airport security, but it will take a lot to do so. One way is hiring and training TSA different. The way

Beginning in December 1972, the Federal Aviation Administration required airlines to scan all
passengers with metal detectors in an attempt to stop hijackers from carrying concealed guns and other
weapons onto flights. Aside from x ray screenings of baggage and metal detector screening of
passengers, TSA officers are empowered to perform pat down screenings and baggage searches for
any passenger that they feel requires additional screening. If the owners bag is locked TSA can cut or
break the lock if the owner is unwilling to open it can open it. In addition to TSA screening measures,
airlines are still responsible for checking passenger information against government issued watch lists
intended to flag potentially dangerous travelers. Just fifteen years ago on September 11, 2001 four
U.S. planes were hijacked. Two of the hijacked planes crashed in the world trade center, while another
one crashed in a field in Pennsylvania, and the other one crashed into the Pentagon. Airport security is
a really big problem in the world. Almost three thousand people were killed on that day. That was one
of the saddest days in America, but it also made the country stronger and realizes that airport security
is a major thing that needs to be addressed. Hijacking started in about 1933 and is still going on to this
day. In 1933 a U.S.

Limited Partnership. Limited partnerships, or limited liability partnerships, are created when 2 or more
individuals come together to form a partnership in which each partner is liable only for the amount of
money each one invested into the business. LLC
An LLC, or a limited liability company, is an attractive business structure for those not wanting to
have any personal liability for the company s losses. An LLC carries many benefits, including the
ability to operate as a sole person through a company in which you have no personal financial ties to
the losses that your company may incur. Therefore, should you lose a significant amount of money
thrugh your LLC, you will not be held personally liable, thus, your personal assets are protected at all
time. Furthermore, creating an LLC can help you gain popularity with the public if selling your
services or goods. It can also help you obtain loans or financial assistance should you need the help.
LLCs are formed under state laws which vary state by state when an individual files the Articles of
Organization with the Secretary of State s office in the state you choose to register. A name availability
check can be conducted on the Secretary of
State s website in order to ensure that the name is not currently being used. An LLC business owner is
required to report any changes in address, membership, or service and must also file an annual report

Englishmen and Colonization in the Seventeenth Century Essay
Perception, understanding and judgment of humankind were far backward in the sixteenth century.
The English Empire was a huge colonial power in that era. They were discovering the places that have

Essay on Poverty in Social Classes
Poverty in Social Classes
The world contains a lot of societies, cultures, and classes. Each household belongs to some social
class that represents their level of education, their work position, and their financial status. These
different classes have created a conflict between people. It fills rich people s minds with the thought
that poor people are criminals, and that conflict ended up with creating poverty. The authors Gilbert,
Kahl, Magnet, and Gans are discussing the important causes and reasons that created poverty in
comparing and contrasting these points with each other.
Weber believes that educated people are more likely able to make a better society than non educated
ones. This is seen when the authors say, Weber was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Crimes were created from this class throughout the years. In contrast, the authors say, So even as men
regained a measure of security from criminal impulses that had arisen among them, the unjust
inequality of wealth that had given the birth to crime in the first place was institutionalized in society
at the very moment of its foundation. (qtd. in Gilbert and Kahl 449). This shows the belief of the
authors that the underclass people are more likely to be criminals than happy secure people.
Magnet alludes to statements made by Plato, St. Augustine, Hobbes, Burke, and Freud and points out
that each of these thinkers concluded as men come from the hand of nature, they are instinctively
aggressive, with a built in inclination to violence (451). Magnet, though, examines poverty s
underlying causes, identifies the conditions necessary for its reduction, and offers the more sensible
analysis of the condition. On the other hand, Gans, however, sees things differently. He believes
poverty is caused by mainstream society, which suppresses the poor and creates a social climate
hostile to the poor.
Clark takes an utterly uncompromising tack. Crime among poor blacks... flows clearly and directly
from the brutalization and dehumanization of racism, poverty, and injustice. (qtd. in Magnet 450).
In contrast, Gans believes that black troubles and misbehavior are caused more by poverty

The Meaning and Implication of Oral History Essay
The Meaning and Implication of Oral History
In the United States the institutional beginnings of oral history can be traced back to Allan Nevins s
Oral History Project at Columbia University in 1948. As a field it developed in the early 1980s and at
this time advocates started to seriously reflect on its methods and implications. Today oral history and
public history are considered the growth engine of the historical discipline, absorbing many historians
who are competing in a tight job market. However, the importance of oral history goes beyond
practical considerations. Its methodological innovations enhance yet at the same time challenge the
discipline. In this paper I will discuss some of the key issues anyone who intends to do ... Show more

It has also been viewed as an alternative that allows scholars to get around the historical discipline
altogether. For Michael Frisch, who has reflected on the craft and implication of oral history for two
decades, these two visions of more history or no history are not entirely satisfactory. Oral history has a
greater potential because it can make history more meaningful it can be a qualitative improvement, it
can make for better history. Functioning within the realms of history, this approach can enrich an
already extant knowledge base. It can also be more responsive and reciprocal than the history that is
written exclusively for an academic audience and lacks relevance for the public at large.
Even if oral history is conducted within institutional confines, it has potential to reach the masses. In
other words, oral history can be used for social and political purposes more readily than a monograph
on an obscure study that is only interesting to a handful of scholars. Frisch sees the challenge of oral
history in learning how social history, community studies, and public presentation can combine in
scholarship that is at once intellectually trenchant, politically meaningful, and sharable with the
communities from which it comes.
Frisch s call for political sensitivity and the democratization of history has been echoed by many of his
colleagues, including the British sociologist Paul

The Dictator s Learning Curve By William J. Dobson
Bouazizi exposed the real truths behind the rampant inflation, unemployment, and police brutality
problems that were really plaguing Tunisia. Once the few videos and comments started to get through
the Internet blocking efforts to the world media then the movement gained national attention and
became a bigger influence on toppling the existing government.
In Egypt we saw the blocking of Twitter and Facebook happen; this seemed all too common and even
fueled the emotion driven actions of the people not only of Egypt, but in Tunisia, Libya, Syria, and
even into China later on. We saw countries pay their way out of the Arab Spring, block social media,
and force propagandized local and international news. In the book The Dictator s Learning Curve by
William J. Dobson, there is a chapter where he visits China during the Arab Spring and states that
CNN was blocked throughout China to stop any threats, and to stop the Chinese citizens from seeing
the outside world with the current situation unfolding. Dobson talks about in his book how on edge
some of the governments were when he was visiting; stating that Omar Afifi had several cell phones at
which he could be contacted on and skype where officials kept him informed about the unfolding
uprisings in Egypt.
When we consider the social and technological reasons for the uprising we also have to start thinking
about where the uprising started and its significance to the geographical locations of the countries that
were affected. When

A Brief Note On Conflict Management And Negotiation
Option 2: Exploring Negotiations Gender Tanya Schankel MGT470 Conflict Management and
Negotiation Colorado State University Global Campus Dr. Bonnie Adams February 5, 2017 Option 2:
Exploring Negotiations Gender Why are women reluctant to negotiate? In a country that values self
reliance and independence, there appears to be a cultural divide between men and women when it
comes to negotiation and its practice. According to Babcock, Laschever, Gelfand, and Small (2003), in
business, women are less likely than men to negotiate for themselves and as a result see their male
coworkers earn higher salaries and receive quicker promotions. But women s avoidance of negotiation

Women should have a clear idea of what a win will look like and the point in which they will stop
negotiating or their resistance point. According to Lewicki, Barry, and Saunders, (2011) good
preparation is having a clear goal. For example, a 10 percent salary increase rather than I want a raise.
However, to identify this goal, one must also do research to determine the value of the item to be
negotiated. For example, when asking for a raise, women should research what salaries others are
receiving for similar work by checking the bureau of labor statistic and web sites like glass door. Once
a market value has been determined, women can have a better idea of what is a realistic and
achievable goal and then determine their opening bid and resistance point based on this information.
According to the Kellogg School of Management. (2015), women often start negotiations with too low
of an opening bid. Women s undervaluation of worth perpetuates the cycle of never quite catching up
to what men achieve. This also communicates to the other party that women believe they deserve less.
One way to combat this common pitfall is through strategic negotiation actions. Strategic Planning
Second, women must be strategic in determining if they will negotiate; what tactics they will utilize in
order to achieve a successful outcome; and how they will handle the various negotiation styles one can
encounter in a negotiation and preserve their reputation, power, and/or

League Of The Iroquois Research Paper
The League of the Iroquois is a historic confederacy comprised of the Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga,
Oneida, Mohawk, and later the Tuscarora tribes. Coming with the message of peace, Deganawida tried
to convince the tribes to become one mind, one heart, one law. He saw the advantages of coming
together as a united people and the foolishness of the constant infighting. Upon the formation of the
league, the Mohawk chief Hiawatha made strings of wampum as a symbol that became significant in
diplomatic meetings and treaties.
The tribes came together to form the league for several reasons: because of their devotion to the law of
retaliation, tribes were constantly at war with each other. In addition to internal warfare, Europeans
were beginning to appear in North America, and it is speculated that the tribes agreed to form the
confederacy in order to seem united to the foreigners encroaching on their land. They could not defend
their land from the Europeans while fighting with each other at the same time. It is still being
discussed today, however, whether the league formed before or after European contact. To this day, the

Genius Hour Essay
Greetings and welcome to my Genius hour project! This is a project I have chosen because I am a very
intuitive person, and with an abstract object such as the brain to study, I feel inspired to learn more and
investigate the brain s actions, jobs, abilities, and the overall science behind it. The human brain
shapes the way we perceive and think about our everyday lives based on the experiences we gather
and live through. My genius hour project is about where the best learning happens. For my genius
hour infographic I decided it would be appropriate to learn about what also happens to the human
brain when problems are formed inside. This lead me to the complex field of neurology. This field
inspired me quite materially.

Native American Binary System
Gender is a complex socially constructed idea. Often people interchangeably use gender to refer to
someone s sex. This is not the case. Sex is the biological characteristics that makes someone a male,
female or intersex. Gender however is made up of expression, identity, and sexual orientation. Gender
identity is how one views themselves such as a woman, man or transgender. Gender identity does not
correspond to the sex of that person. Gender expression is how one expresses their gender identity.
This could be through a masculine , feminine or androgynous expression. In Western societies,
although there has been a push for change in our gender system, the gender system as been a binary
system. This binary system only believes that there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout many Native American societies there have been a variety of sex/gender systems. As
Europeans came over to the Americas, Native people lost their gender systems and were forced to
conform to the binary system. Violence was sometimes carried out on these people such as being put
to death by dogs. Europeans were shocked to find Native men perform the work of women, dress like
women and have sexual relations with men ( ). These native men were not understood and were
labeled berdache which meant male prostitute ( ). Even early anthropologist were not able to grasp the
concept of not having a binary system and ultimately associated these men with homosexuality,
transvestism, and hermorphaism ( ). The term two spirit was adopted in 1990 to get rid of the term
berdache. Two spirit was adopted to get rid of the binary negativity associated with berdache and
embrace the spiritual diversity of the Native people. Two spirit people have both a masculine and
feminine spirit. An example of this is the third gender of the Navajo called the nadleeh. The nadleeh
acts as a another gender in the Navajo s gender system. The nadleeh could be a male gender who takes
on women s roles such as language and work or a masculine female bodied ( ). Sexual relations with
nadleeh were not stigmatized as though they may share the same biological sex, they were a different

Integration Of Math And Science
Integration is a topic should be talked about because it is a topic that has multiple view points some
negative and some positives. No matter the viewpoints it is important to consider how integration
impacts the students. At the end of the day what students retain is what matters and retaining
information can happen in a variety of different ways. Integration provides a way to connect multiple
subjects and allows students to make connections. Integration can be difficult for teachers to teach
because the integration does not fit well, but the outcome of integration is beneficial. With the heavy
weight of assessments and standardized, tests teachers need to make sure that whatever they teach
needs to connect to standards and unites. Science has become a subject that has been put on the back
burner because tests like Maps and Paws testing do not assess science. There are many factors that
affect what and how teachers teach. Integration of math and science is one way to teach that allows
teachers cover more than one major subject. Integration allows teachers to teach science and math in
the same environment that allows students to flourish. The classroom is filled with a variety of
different objectives and lessons and as teachers we need to make sure we are using our time the best
ability. The big question of this research is whether integrating math and science is beneficial for
students in the classroom. Each lesson and activity needs a purpose in the classroom and

B2B eCommerce Best Practices Guide Accepting Online Payments
Accepting Online Payments from Multiple Gateways
Traditional B2B invoicing, on account arrangements and payments by check prove increasingly
inefficient when companies can get immediate payments using credit cards and integrating other
mobile payment systems into their eCommerce platforms. Technology and faster communications,
secure encryptions of financial information and growing acceptance of mobile payments are
influencing business to business organizations to offer more payment options to their customers.

Studies show that eight billion invoices paid by check cost U.S. businesses $100 billion in annual
processing costs.[1]
Most B2B companies struggle to implement electronic payment systems primarily because of the
challenges of integrating with out of the box accounting software and antiquated legacy systems.
However, 91 percent of all adults now use mobile phones and can easily pay companies directly with
check cards, credit cards or other mobile payment options.[2] Customizing a B2B website for multiple
payment options provides long term benefits that will only increase with time and enable increased
automation of company processes. These include automated options for recurring billing, interactive
voice response or IVR technology for confirming orders and taking credit card or billing information
and Virtual Negotiation technology for speeding agreements and handling payment disputes. Mobile
payments grew more than 9 percent annually in 2013 and now account for more than 40 percent of
global revenue.[3] McKinsey predicts a sustained annual growth rate for mobile payments in excess of
6 percent that should surpass $2 trillion annually by 2020.
Accepting multiple payment types increases the value of any eCommerce platform by empowering
customers and simplifying the billing payment cycle. It s a new world for B2B companies that stand to
benefit from these technologies, but there are

Comparison Of Peanut Butter And Jelly Sandwich
The most well known sandwich in America is by far the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It s
straightforwardness, and palatability, have contributed to this iconic sandwiches prominence in the
American house hold. Whether it be for lunch, or as a quick snack, PBJ s will surely not disappoint.
Adhering to these instructions will produce a trouble free, and delectable sandwich. The first step to
making the sandwich is choosing the type of bread that will be used. A traditional peanut butter and
jelly sandwich is made on white bread, but there are so many others to choose from. For the health
conscience person, they can choose to use wheat, or any whole grain breads, bagels, and muffins. To
add extra flavor to their sandwich, they can use breads that are infused with any number of flavors
including cinnamon, brown sugar, and raisin. Choosing the bread used, is the first step in making a
fantastic sandwich. Next is arguably the most important step, choosing their peanut butter, and jelly.
Peanut butter comes in all types, and doesn t have to be made with peanuts. Almond butter and cashew
butter are very popular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When constructing the sandwich, it is important to note that the peanut butter to jelly ratio will greatly
affect the taste of the sandwich, and the overall consistency. To start they must set up a suitable work
station, this includes a clean surface, and a butter knife that they will need to spread the peanut butter
and jelly with. Once that is done, they will lay out two pieces of bread, and open the jars of peanut
butter and jelly. Using the butter knife, they will scoop a generous amount of peanut butter, and jelly
onto one of the slices of bread. Next, they will spread the peanut butter, and jelly across the surface of
the bread, making sure to cover the entire slice evenly. Now that the bread slice has had peanut butter,
and jelly applied to it, it can now be mated to the other slice of bread, to be

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Servals
The Serval enclosure provides adequate functioning and living throughout the enclosure through the
use of already implemented enrichment techniques. This includes climbing structures as well as
shrubs to provide cover and the use of heat lamps. Despite these enrichments the Adelaide Zoo
enclosure does not seem to meet behavioural needs. Stuart and Stuart (2016), state Servals are found
throughout swamp and grasslands with areas that provide vegetation for coverage, however the
Adelaide Zoo has provided a very dry environment for the Servals. As Servals are found throughout
landscapes that contain a permanent water source the enclosure seems insufficient, until water and
vegetation aspects are made available to meet behavioural needs. This was also proven when visiting
the zoo as the Servals were displaying abnormal behavior such as pacing. Canniff (2011), state that
Servals are solitary animals due to their territorial nature however the enclosure at the Adelaide Zoo
has them housed with other Servals. As these Servals are raised in captivity and not in the wild, it is
difficult to determine whether this species will benefit from being housed with others, therefore more
research will need to be conducted to determine this effect. (b) Keeper Point of View (4 marks)
Climbing structures and logs throughout the enclosure would need to be maintained to ensure that left
over food on the branches or inside the log, does not rot through the wood or attract unwanted insects.

History Of Land Protection Regulation On Urban Development...
Farmland protection has become a contentious political issue in China due to the loss of cultivated
land in rapidly growing urban centers. In response to new information about rates of farmland
conversion, the national government placed a national moratorium on arable land conversion in
1997 and imposed stringent regulations on the encroachment of urban land on agricultural lands in the
Land Management Law of 1998 (Lin and Ho 2005). There has been speculation about the efficacy of
the regulations, which are challenging to enforce. Others have expressed concern that the regulations
could severely distort China s most productive urban land markets (Lichtenberg and Ding 2009, Ding
2003).
This paper estimates the causal effect of the primary farmland protection regulation on urban land
development across China. I use a satellite based data set that measures time varying rates of
agricultural and urban land change before and after the regulatory change in 1998. Satellite data have
played an important role in assessments of farmland loss in China for over a decade, but have not been
used to examine the impact of the regulatory policy. I make use of an important feature of the
regulation s design, the no net loss rule, which provides an arbitrary discontinuity in the likelihood
that the regulation will bind in different provinces. I estimate effects using the province level as well
as across discontinuities at provincial borders. The simultaneity of regulatory decision making and

Low Interest Rate Long Term Effect
Low Interest Rates Long Term Effect
The prolonged low interest rate environment is transforming the banking industry from savings and
loans to service and loans, said Dan Geller, executive vice president of research firm Market Rates
Insight in San Anselmo, Calif. (Fitzpatrick) Consumers may think that the continued low interest rates
are a profound thing, but banks on the other hand think much differently. Consumers are refinancing
their houses at rates as low as 2.875%, while big banks like Hudson City Bancorp Inc., a mortgage
lender, are being forced to sell themselves to M amp;T Bank Corp. These super low interest rates are
complicating the industry s journey to a recovery from the financial crisis. In the article Low Rates

As we learned in the book, the negative inflation causes an increase in the demand for bonds, because
of the decrease in expected return on real assets. This in turn caused the demand curve to shift to the
right. The negative inflation also raised the real interest rate, thereby causing the supply of bonds to
adjust, moving the supply curve to the left. In the end this led to an increase in the bond price and a
decrease of interest rates. In the book it explains to us that the interest rate is negatively related to the
bond price. In other words, when the equilibrium bond price rises, the equilibrium interest rate falls
and vise versa. There are other factors which led to the down fall of interest rates in the Japanese
market. For example, the lack of profitable investments opportunities in Japan, and the business cycle
contraction and the decrease of wealth during the business cycle contractions. These all would lead to
the increase in bond price and the decrease of interest rates. This application shows us that low interest
rates are not a good thing. In Japan s case, the low and negative interest rates were a sign that their
economy was in trouble with falling prices and a contracting economy. The interest will only rise back
to normal levels when their economy returns back to a better economy. Fitzpatrick goes on to explain
that because of the low interest rates banks will have to consider new ways to make money like

Hispanic And Hispanic Racial Discrimination
Does it matter what we are called: Latino or Hispanic? Does it change who we are as people? To an
extent, most people do not know the difference between either. Typically, people group both terms as
one singular item. However, Hispanic and Latino racial classifications are more than a broad category
for people from Spanish speaking countries. The words connote and represent a history of colonial
terminology that based its success on the failures of innocent, historically peaceful, cultural groups.
Hispanic and Latino terminology are political and economic in every sense. This paper will show that
colonial leanings to control and govern people s lives have yet to culminate, even though the era of
imperialism ended a century ago. The United States, although far from its heyday as the singular
house of power, still manages to achieve control and influence over the imperialized minds of groups
of people, specifically Hispanics and Latinos.
What is the difference? Hispanic denotes the culture and people of countries formerly ruled by the
Spanish Empire (Gause, 2011, pp. 22). On the contrary, Latino means an individual of Mexican,
Cuban, Puerto Rican, Central, South American descent or other Spanish origin or culture, regardless
of race (Gause, pp.22). However, the terminology is not very important to most in the United States,
as members of either group typically refer to themselves by their country of origin: Mexican,
Dominican, Cuban, etc (Taylor, Lopez, Martinez, Velasco,

As you read this paper you will find out about this issue. You will be engaged in the Marine Corps

There are definitely a lot of descriptions that accurately describe the act of hazing according to the
definition. It is important to know the specifics and intricacies of hazing in order to fully understand it.
Of course hazing is not exclusive to the United States Military, it has a wide effect on civilian life like
college students, band members, high school upper class men, and professional athletic teams are also
involved in some form of hazing. Hazing is not something to be ignored, countless of overqualified
honorable service member s careers have been destroyed for times when hazing has turned into a bad
situation even lives have crumbled due to being involved in such a heinous offense. The definition of
cruel hazing is able or disposed to inflicting pain or suffering, examples include mass punishment for
the wrong doing of one individual to be included in a team, group, or members of any certain party.
Another example of cruel hazing is making harmful or abusive threats to an individual. Over a period
of time, telling threats can emotionally damage the person. Hazing through physical means is not
uncommon. It is called violent hazing and it is the most common form of hazing. Most people

Stroke, Ischemic And Ischemic Attacks
STROKE A stroke is a disease that affects the arteries leading into as well as within the brain. Strokes
are the 4th leading cause of death in the United States. Approximately 800,000 people have strokes
every year about one every 4 seconds. 1 A stroke may cause lasting brain damage, long term disability,
or possibly even death. There are three main types of strokes, ischemic, hemorrhagic and transient
ischemic attacks and each come with many warning signs. A person may have an increased chance of
having a stroke depending on their lifestyle and risky behaviors, and treatment is determined on what
type of stroke a person has. During a stroke, the brain is not receiving enough blood: Blood is carrying

An embolic stroke happens when the clot develops away from the brain, perhaps in a limb, and is then
carried into the brain by the bloodstream. This type of clot when the moving clot then is lodged within
the narrower arteries within the brain is called an embolus The second major type of stroke is labeled
as a hemorrhagic stroke. Hemorrhagic strokes are caused by arteries in the brain rupturing open or
slowly leaking into the cranium. The rupture or leakage of blood then puts pressure on the surrounding
brain cells. There are two types of hemorrhagic strokes; intracerebral which occurs when a blood
vessel in the brain bursts and spills into surrounding brain tissue damaging brain cells. Brain cells
beyond the leak are deprived of blood are also damaged. 2 The second type of hemorrhagic stroke is
called a subarachnoid hemorrhage. With a subarachnoid hemorrhage an artery on the surface of the
brain bursts and spills blood between the surface of the brain and the skull. This bleeding is often
signaled by a sudden, severe headache. 2 This type of stroke is usually caused by an aneurysm. The
third type of stroke is called a transient ischemic attack, or a mini stroke. With a transient ischemic
attack, there is only a temporary decrease is the blood flow to the brain, and thus is the least severe

  • 2. Crime And Containment Theory Analysis Reflecting back on when I was 18 years old I walked out of a pizza place without paying. It was over the summer before school started up again, and I was with two of my best friends from high school. After this class and covering many different understandings of crime and delinquency, I was able to integrate some ideas on why I committed the crime and possibly why others commit crime. Focusing on Jack Katz Chapter 2 Cheap Thrills, Cohen, Reckless, and Hirschi s theories I was able to analysis my crime compared to an overall reasoning of why people commit crimes. Comparing my crime to Sneaky Thrills of Katz ideas on crime and why people steal, specifically why did I steal. Sneaky thrills refers to non violent crimes that have no personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my understanding, there is no true way of knowing why people commit crimes, but there can be explanations or inclinations to show a process or system that is not working or shows patterns that can help prevent crimes. In the beginning I tried to justify my crime, but acknowledging the different theories and how some overlap with one another and even contradict shows that human behavior can simply be just sporadic, in the moment with no real intention. Katz discusses this sporadic moment in which people steal for the thrill as a general overarching idea, which can lead to looking more specifically at Cohen s idea that in my case there was some peer influence that could have lead me to committing the crime. There was also a connection between Reckless and Hirschi in how they both talk about family, school, and community which again can relate back to peer influence or subcultures that could occur when people feel secluded or how the minorities being lead into a life of ... • 3. The American Red Cross And Other Organizations At Purnell... On Monday, October 17th I volunteered to help the American Red Cross and other organizations at Purnell Swett High School. I was directed to a woman named Priscilla who oversaw a portion of the outdoor area. Our group was quite diverse. It consisted of young high school and college students, middle aged parents, some senior citizens, and even a girl who appeared to be no more than nine years old. Everyone was in good spirits despite the recent tragedy. Our task seemed to be simple enough, however, we would soon discover it was going to take more planning. We were assigned to the rear of the school where we would sort through various bags and boxes of donations. Priscilla directed some of us to carry items to different rooms based on their size and whether the clothes were designed more males or females, children or adults. As organized piles began to form, these volunteers posted signs indicating the sizes in those piles. Priscilla asked a different group to take the flat boxes and fold and tape them to allow packing of the clothes. Another set of people were instructed to write the names of the recipients on the boxes. The final group, which later consisted of those who completed their share of the work already, was assigned to fill the boxes with appropriate items and seal them for delivery. Thanks to the strong leadership skills of Priscilla and the tireless efforts of the volunteers, we were successful! She was wise to divide our large group into smaller substations. ... • 4. A. Urie Bronfenbrenner’S Ecological Systems Theory Looks A. Urie Bronfenbrenner s Ecological Systems Theory looks at the development of a child as happening within an intricate system of relationships affected by various levels of their environment. Bronfenbrenner called his theory a bioecological model because the child s biological attributes mesh with the environment to further development. There are 5 different systems that make up the child s surrounding environment. The distinct systems are the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and the chronosystem. The microsystem is the first layer of the environment. It consists of the child s immediate surroundings and the direct interactions involved within. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some examples include the parents workplaces, religious institutions, and even any place they receive government help. Some more informal surroundings of the exosystem include the parents social networks such as friends and extended family who provide advice, assistance, and friendship to the parents. The fourth layer of the environment is the macrosystem. The macrosystem contains cultural values, customs, resources, and laws. The more the macrosystem prioritizes children s needs, the more support they get at the more inner levels of the environment. It also works the other way around. For example, in countries that emphasize laws which give generous benefits to employed parents or even laws that prioritize a higher standard of education, children see more support and have more beneficial experiences in their immediate surroundings. The last system is the chronosystem. According to Bronfenbrenner, the environment is a dynamic influence on a child s development. There are always new environmental conditions being created for the child. The timing of the ever changing environment also matters in terms of the child s circumstance and age at the time of environmental change. The chronosystem consists of temporal environmental changes and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Towards the end of the story Lieutenant Cross realizes he is not doing his job well if he is thinking about Martha. • 7. The Effects Of Video Advertisements On Society Essay Introduction Video advertisements are quick and momentary but their influence is pervasive and prolonged. The power of video advertisements shape norms and common societal expectations on how a person should look and behave. Overtime these gender roles (societal expectations associated with men and women) and behaviors become implicit thus implying normal (or in some instances ideal) men and women should exhibit these qualities and characteristics. Subconsciously, video advertisements impact a person s perception of what it means and what it takes to be a man or woman. The objective of this paper is to observe secondary socialization, ...learning behaviors and attitudes associated with specific situations and roles... , in YouTube video advertisements by comparing recurring patterns, symbols, statuses, and roles directed to men and women (Lecture Notes Nalkur 7). • 8. Renewable Energy For The Changing World Karina Vanous Smith Political Economy 13 January 2015 Renewable Energy for the Changing World Currently, there is a call for alternative energies to replace our harmful energy sources that are bringing the world closer and closer to global warming. As of right now, America s economy is mostly dependent on destructive fossil fuels for its energy supply. Our country is producing a quarter of the world s pollution. Usage of fossil fuels has increasingly contributed to the CO2 emissions, which is polluting our environment. It is destroying natural habitats and causing an increase in health problems. If our harmful methods continue, our planet will eventually become uninhabitable. Fossil fuels are considered a nonrenewable resource, which means we are required to find a new and clean renewable energy source. These new energy sources must be readily available for the world s energy demands. Our vision should focus on environmentally friendly and efficient energies such as wind and solar power. Becoming more dependent on wind and solar power would mean having an infinite amount of energy and create more job opportunities, which would help the world s economy as well. Americans use wind and solar energy because they are not only environmentally friendly, but are affordable and an abundant source of energy. The United States has some of the best wind resources in the world, with enough potential energy to produce nearly 10 times the country s existing power needs (Clean Line ... Today oral history and public history are considered the growth engine of the historical discipline, absorbing many historians who are competing in a tight job market. It has also been viewed as an alternative that allows scholars to get around the historical discipline altogether. For Michael Frisch, who has reflected on the craft and implication of oral history for two decades, these two visions of more history or no history are not entirely satisfactory. Oral history has a greater potential because it can make history more meaningful it can be a qualitative improvement, it can make for better history. Functioning within the realms of history, this approach can enrich an already extant knowledge base. It can also be more responsive and reciprocal than the history that is written exclusively for an academic audience and lacks relevance for the public at large. Even if oral history is conducted within institutional confines, it has potential to reach the masses. In other words, oral history can be used for social and political purposes more readily than a monograph on an obscure study that is only interesting to a handful of scholars. Frisch sees the challenge of oral history in learning how social history, community studies, and public presentation can combine in scholarship that is at once intellectually trenchant, politically meaningful, and sharable with the communities from which it comes. Frisch s call for political sensitivity and the democratization of history has been echoed by many of his colleagues, including the British sociologist Paul ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Once the few videos and comments started to get through the Internet blocking efforts to the world media then the movement gained national attention and became a bigger influence on toppling the existing government. In Egypt we saw the blocking of Twitter and Facebook happen; this seemed all too common and even fueled the emotion driven actions of the people not only of Egypt, but in Tunisia, Libya, Syria, and even into China later on. We saw countries pay their way out of the Arab Spring, block social media, and force propagandized local and international news. In the book The Dictator s Learning Curve by William J. In a country that values self reliance and independence, there appears to be a cultural divide between men and women when it comes to negotiation and its practice. Women should have a clear idea of what a win will look like and the point in which they will stop negotiating or their resistance point. According to Lewicki, Barry, and Saunders, (2011) good preparation is having a clear goal. For example, a 10 percent salary increase rather than I want a raise. However, to identify this goal, one must also do research to determine the value of the item to be negotiated. For example, when asking for a raise, women should research what salaries others are receiving for similar work by checking the bureau of labor statistic and web sites like glass door. Once a market value has been determined, women can have a better idea of what is a realistic and achievable goal and then determine their opening bid and resistance point based on this information. According to the Kellogg School of Management. (2015), women often start negotiations with too low of an opening bid. Women s undervaluation of worth perpetuates the cycle of never quite catching up to what men achieve. This also communicates to the other party that women believe they deserve less. One way to combat this common pitfall is through strategic negotiation actions. He saw the advantages of coming together as a united people and the foolishness of the constant infighting. The tribes came together to form the league for several reasons: because of their devotion to the law of retaliation, tribes were constantly at war with each other. In addition to internal warfare, Europeans were beginning to appear in North America, and it is speculated that the tribes agreed to form the confederacy in order to seem united to the foreigners encroaching on their land. These include automated options for recurring billing, interactive voice response or IVR technology for confirming orders and taking credit card or billing information and Virtual Negotiation technology for speeding agreements and handling payment disputes. Mobile payments grew more than 9 percent annually in 2013 and now account for more than 40 percent of global revenue.[3] McKinsey predicts a sustained annual growth rate for mobile payments in excess of 6 percent that should surpass $2 trillion annually by 2020. Accepting multiple payment types increases the value of any eCommerce platform by empowering customers and simplifying the billing payment cycle. It s a new world for B2B companies that stand to benefit from these technologies, but there are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Servals The Serval enclosure provides adequate functioning and living throughout the enclosure through the use of already implemented enrichment techniques. This includes climbing structures as well as shrubs to provide cover and the use of heat lamps. Despite these enrichments the Adelaide Zoo enclosure does not seem to meet behavioural needs. Stuart and Stuart (2016), state Servals are found throughout swamp and grasslands with areas that provide vegetation for coverage, however the Adelaide Zoo has provided a very dry environment for the Servals. As Servals are found throughout landscapes that contain a permanent water source the enclosure seems insufficient, until water and vegetation aspects are made available to meet behavioural needs. This was also proven when visiting the zoo as the Servals were displaying abnormal behavior such as pacing. Canniff (2011), state that Servals are solitary animals due to their territorial nature however the enclosure at the Adelaide Zoo has them housed with other Servals. As these Servals are raised in captivity and not in the wild, it is difficult to determine whether this species will benefit from being housed with others, therefore more research will need to be conducted to determine this effect. • 29. History Of Land Protection Regulation On Urban Development... Farmland protection has become a contentious political issue in China due to the loss of cultivated land in rapidly growing urban centers. In response to new information about rates of farmland conversion, the national government placed a national moratorium on arable land conversion in 1997 and imposed stringent regulations on the encroachment of urban land on agricultural lands in the Land Management Law of 1998 (Lin and Ho 2005). There has been speculation about the efficacy of the regulations, which are challenging to enforce. Others have expressed concern that the regulations could severely distort China s most productive urban land markets (Lichtenberg and Ding 2009, Ding 2003). This paper estimates the causal effect of the primary farmland protection regulation on urban land development across China. I use a satellite based data set that measures time varying rates of agricultural and urban land change before and after the regulatory change in 1998. Satellite data have played an important role in assessments of farmland loss in China for over a decade, but have not been used to examine the impact of the regulatory policy. I make use of an important feature of the regulation s design, the no net loss rule, which provides an arbitrary discontinuity in the likelihood that the regulation will bind in different provinces. I estimate effects using the province level as well as across discontinuities at provincial borders. The simultaneity of regulatory decision making and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Low Interest Rate Long Term Effect Low Interest Rates Long Term Effect The prolonged low interest rate environment is transforming the banking industry from savings and loans to service and loans, said Dan Geller, executive vice president of research firm Market Rates Insight in San Anselmo, Calif. (Fitzpatrick) Consumers may think that the continued low interest rates are a profound thing, but banks on the other hand think much differently. Consumers are refinancing their houses at rates as low as 2.875%, while big banks like Hudson City Bancorp Inc., a mortgage lender, are being forced to sell themselves to M amp;T Bank Corp. These super low interest rates are complicating the industry s journey to a recovery from the financial crisis. In the article Low Rates Pummel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As we learned in the book, the negative inflation causes an increase in the demand for bonds, because of the decrease in expected return on real assets. This in turn caused the demand curve to shift to the right. The negative inflation also raised the real interest rate, thereby causing the supply of bonds to adjust, moving the supply curve to the left. In the end this led to an increase in the bond price and a decrease of interest rates. In the book it explains to us that the interest rate is negatively related to the bond price. In other words, when the equilibrium bond price rises, the equilibrium interest rate falls and vise versa. There are other factors which led to the down fall of interest rates in the Japanese market. For example, the lack of profitable investments opportunities in Japan, and the business cycle contraction and the decrease of wealth during the business cycle contractions. These all would lead to the increase in bond price and the decrease of interest rates. This application shows us that low interest rates are not a good thing. In Japan s case, the low and negative interest rates were a sign that their economy was in trouble with falling prices and a contracting economy. The interest will only rise back to normal levels when their economy returns back to a better economy. Fitzpatrick goes on to explain that because of the low interest rates banks will have to consider new ways to make money like Hudson City ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Hispanic And Hispanic Racial Discrimination Does it matter what we are called: Latino or Hispanic? Does it change who we are as people? To an extent, most people do not know the difference between either. Typically, people group both terms as one singular item. However, Hispanic and Latino racial classifications are more than a broad category for people from Spanish speaking countries. The words connote and represent a history of colonial terminology that based its success on the failures of innocent, historically peaceful, cultural groups. Hispanic and Latino terminology are political and economic in every sense. This paper will show that colonial leanings to control and govern people s lives have yet to culminate, even though the era of imperialism ended a century ago. The United States, although far from its heyday as the singular house of power, still manages to achieve control and influence over the imperialized minds of groups of people, specifically Hispanics and Latinos. What is the difference? Hispanic denotes the culture and people of countries formerly ruled by the Spanish Empire (Gause, 2011, pp. 22). On the contrary, Latino means an individual of Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Central, South American descent or other Spanish origin or culture, regardless of race (Gause, pp.22). However, the terminology is not very important to most in the United States, as members of either group typically refer to themselves by their country of origin: Mexican, Dominican, Cuban, etc (Taylor, Lopez, Martinez, Velasco, ...
