What Is The Theme In The Conference Of The Birds
Introduction
This essay will attempt to delve into the meaning and thus, deliver a commentary on one of the
greatest Sufi poems of all times, The Conference of the Birds (Manteq at Tair) written by the
great Persian Sufi poet Farid ud Din Attar, who was born during the twelfth century in
Neishapour in north west Iran and spent his childhood being educated at the theological school
attached to the shrine of Imam Reza at Mashhad. (Darbandi Davis 1). The poem written by Attar
can be seen as an allegory of a spiritual pilgrimage, like that of Dante s Divine Comedy and
Chaucer s Canterbury Tales. (Davis et al. 401).
However, before moving forward, it is imperative to clarify that since the poem is composed of
4500 lines, only a stanza has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Conference of the Birds is an epic Sufi poem, owing to it long length and the narrative that it
attempts to knit together. One of the rhetorical devices used frequently by the poet Attar in his
works is that of anaphora, which is the repetition of a certain word or phrase over and over again
within an extended paragraph or few lines. (Darbandi Davis 9). Moreover, Attar also uses the
common masnavi metre of Persian narrative poetry; where the rhymes occur within the line and
each line has a different rhyme thereby, rendering it almost identical to the English heroic couplet.
(Darbandi Davis 9). Not only that, he also makes use of Persian metaphors in his work which are
quite different from that of the metaphors found in the English poetry, as the former juxtapose
words in such a way so as to deepen the meanings implied by the passage. (Darbandi Davis

Summary Of Utiima By Ultima
In the novel, Antonio s uncle, Lucas, was on the verge of dying due to a curse placed upon him by
witches. A priest and a doctor had tried to deal with Lucas illness, but were unsuccessful at their
attempts at doing so. It was noted that Lucas had witnessed Tenorio s daughters performing a
satanic ritual, also known as the Black Mass . Afterwards, Lucas had tried to test whether or not
Tenorio s daughters were indeed witches, but they had ran away once they noticed a makeshift
cross. As all other measures had been taken, Lucas brother, Pedro, had asked Ultima to help.
Ultima had agreed to help, but before Ultima would attend to Uncle Lucas, she has a confrontation
with Tenorio. Within the story, the reader comes to understand that Ultima blames the curse placed
on Lucas on the daughters of Tenorio. I have come to lift a curse. It is your daughters who do evil,
that are brujas. (Bless Me, Ultima pg.39). This upsets Tenorio, and creates an argument between the
two. Ultima goes on giving Tenorio an ultimatum if he does not try to convince his daughters to lift
the curse on Lucas. After Ultima, threatens the daughters with an ultimatum, Tenorio goes on to call
Ultima a bruja . Later in the novel, news arrives that Tenorio s daughterhas died. Narciso had told
everyone in the MГЎrez home that Tenorio and a mob were on their way to see Ultima, as they
have claimed to have found Ultima s herbal pouch under the daughter s bed. Once the mob has
arrived, it was noted that a

Hip Of Hip Hop Music
Hip Hops Redemption Hip hop music is described as, a subculture especially of inner city youths
who are typically devotees of rap music . (Merriam.com) Hip hop music is one of the most
listened to genres in history. Hip hop music started in the mid 1970 s, but some say that it
started much earlier. Many people today would argue that Hip Hop is disgraceful now a days,
and that it has no positive message given. Me personally, I would agree since the days have
changed over time. I could also argue that music as a whole has changed and wouldn t always be
the same, but that s not the main point. The main point is to show how Hip hop music is
actually positive. For starters, music has always been very special to people. Music can affect
people, even more than people affect people. Think about it, even in the bible days, Lucifer was
the ruler over music. God s most beautiful angel controlled music and the music set the tone in
heaven. Yes, music has a very strong impact on humans, animals, and deities out there. Hip Hop
is an awesome form of music. Hip Hop started off from poetry. Yes Langston Hughes would be
known as a lyricist in today s era. It was meant to express the troubles and sadness throughout the
lives of blacks. Hip Hop has gone through it s changed throughout time. As technology advanced
Hip hop has also advanced too an extent . Usually the older generation, when hearing todays Hip
hop musicwould say, How do you listen to all this

Summary Of The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock
In T. S. Eliot s The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock , the title alone is ironic because throughout
the poem Prufrock struggles with being unable to talk to anyone, yet the poem is supposed to be
a love song (Eliot). The epigraph of the poem is quoted directly from Dante s Inferno , the
translation says If I thought that my answer were being made to someone who would ever
return to earth, this flame would remain without further movement; but since no one has ever
returned alive from this depth, if what I hear is true, I answer you without fear of infamy (qtd.
in Eliot). This quote correlates to the way Prufrock tells us his fears and feelings due to the
reader being unable to tell the people in the poem what Prufrock says. In the first line, Prufrock
says Let us go then, you and I (Eliot, ln. 1), the you in the poem is not directly referred to as the
reader or the recipient of the love song (Eliot). The first stanza sets in place that this is not a love
song like the title says. It begins by comparing the sky to a patient etherized upon a table (Eliot,
ln. 3) and offers to take the you in the poem down half deserted streets, .... Restless nights in one
night cheap hotels and sawdust restaurants with oyster shells (Eliot, ln. 4 7) which are not places
you go for a romantic setting. These thoughts lead him to an overwhelming question, but begs
do not ask, What is it? (Eliot, ln. 11 12). In the third stanza, Prufrock switches from the present
tense in which he says Let us go (Eliot, ln. 1) to saying there will be time (Eliot, ln. 23) which
shows how the question he doesn t want to answer is causing him to prepare a face to meet the
faces that you meet (Eliot, ln. 27). Every decision he tries to make leads to a hundred
indecisions, and time yet for a hundred visions and revisions before the taking of a toast and tea
(Eliot, ln. 31 34). This indecisiveness to a lack in self confidence beginning with Do I dare?
...With a bald spot in the middle of my hair (Eliot, ln. 38 40). He asks Do I dare disturb the
universe? ...for decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse (Eliot, ln. 45 49), he is now
beginning to feel like he is very insignificant in the universe and that he has

The Giver Dystopian
In our English class we read The Giver . Usually novels that are obligatory at school tend to be
boring or too technical, but honestly this novel was different. I loved it. From the first chapter I
wanted to continue till the end. I was mesmerized by the core topic and once we analyzed it, that s
when I decided I would choose this as my written task topic.
What is a utopia actually? A utopia by definition means a perfect world with no flaws where
everyone lives a perfect life. In the book The Giver people discuss whether it s a utopian setting or
a dystopian setting. A dystopiais the exact opposite of utopia. A world that is imperfect with flaws.
Basically, the world we live in. We live with war and pain and with a political system full of flaws.
Whereas a utopian world is an imaginary world, best described as paradise.
I chose to write my own utopia, a small short story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well because my people have to experience everything; the heat of the sun, the freezing cold of
the snow, and sunny days in the fall. There are certain rules in my world. Families here can only
have two children to avoid mass population and anything that contributes to global warming does
not exist. We have a good education system where pupils are divided in groups to learn only
what they want. They start school at the age of ten and have two years to learn all subjects.
They then decide what they want to study to perfect it. I have tried to simplify life for my
people and don t want them to suffer. Everyone gets a job and no one is homeless. People get paid
the same and live like one. I don t differ between men and women. I don t have rich or poor. They
are all equal. As for the political system we follow democracy as you would call it but our motto
here is live life to the fullest. We have acres of lands and everyone is taught the art of farming so
as to avoid hunger. Our food is all freshly grown, so people avoid eating unhealthy

Social learning theory has already been begun to find its place in criminology. Various models
and tactics are being tested among criminals or individuals with deviant behavior. Within the
field of criminal justice there is always a task to try to understand the behaviors or intent of an
individuals and this is often achieved by understanding social learning factors. Social learning
theory is growing a place when it comes to government policies or agencies. This is because
many times before an agency, government funded program, or policy be implemented in regards
to learning or education social learning and purpose are vital. Educational programs and agencies
before receiving government funds need to provide explanation how models such as social
learning will be used and the results expected in addition to why there is a need. Klasen Crombag

Trajan In Dacia Research Paper
The elaborate triumph following Trajan s conquering of Dacia took place over the course of two
days. In the early morning, the procession started with musicians leading the way through the porta
triumphalis, located at the porta carmentalis (Coarelli), singing ballads of Trajan s victory. This
excited the crowd and readied them for the procession, as well these ballads played a role in
commemorating this triumph for years to come.
After the musicians, the procession continued with the display of the captured Dacian treasure.
This procession included wagons of gold and silver taken from Decebalus s treasure, hidden in the
river Sargetia. As well, there were wagons and platforms carrying other trophies found in Dacia, like

In their tattered uniforms, they were a pathetic looking crowd. Trajan did ensure although that these
captives continue through the procession unchained. Trajan wanted them to be unchained to show
that their defeat to him was so consuming, that they did not need chains on to stop them from
attempting to escape, just the thought of Trajan scared them into obeying.
As the army walked to the forum, the generals of the Dacian army, were brought forward and
executed in front of the crowd. These generals were chased down by the jackals, brought from
Dacia, which brought the Roman citizens immense satisfaction.
After the army passed, the Dacian elite and family of the ruler, Decebalus, shuffled by. There
were forced out of their regal wear into clothes fit for slaves. This was done to show the complete
lack of power left to the Dacian Citizens. To further the dehumanization of the Dacians, the
personal robes of Decebalus were carried on a platform behind his family, along with his severed
head decked with a diadem. This was put in the triumph to mock the cowardice and memory of
Decebalus.
Following the captives came trumpeters and oxen heavily ordained in jewels and garland like no
sacrifice had ever been before. In addition to the oxen, there was a beautiful lynx taken from Dacia

she didn t have any, so she offered him her apples for him to sell. The boy/man would always come

The main idea is that the boy is selfish. The tree represents a parent and how the boy would go to
his parents for help and the parent does anything in their power to help. The boy wanted a house

Health And The Healthiness Of Their Organisations
Work stress is recognised worldwide as a major challenge to workers health and the healthiness
of their organisations (ILO 1986; 1992). Workers who are pushed are additionally more prone to
be morbid, inadequately spurred, less gainful and less protected at work. Their associations are
less inclined to be effective in a focused business sector. Stress can be realized by pressures at
home and at work. Businesses can t more often than not shield labourers from strain emerging
outside of work, yet they can shield them from the strain that emerges through work. Stress at work
can be a genuine issue to the association and in addition to its labour force. Great administration

Managers would be very much encouraged to acclimate themselves with the pertinent law in

requests and pressures that are not coordinated as far as their understanding is concerned and
capacities and which challenge their capacity to adapt. There is frequently disarray between
pressure or test and stress and at times it is utilized to reason terrible administration practice.
The pressure at the work environment is unavoidable because of the requests of the
contemporary work environment. Pressure seen as worthy by an individual may even keep
workers ready, stirred, ready to work and learn, contingent upon the accessible assets and
individual attributes. Be that as it may, when that pressure gets to be over the top or generally
unmanageable it prompts stress. Stress can harm your labourers wellbeing and your business
execution. A sound occupation is prone to be one where the pressure on staff are fitting in
connection with their capacities and assets, to the measure of control they have over their work,
and to the bolster they get from individuals who matter to them. As health is not merely the
absence of disease or infirmity but a positive state of complete physical, mental and social well

Men on Display
Throughout society, the portrayal of men and women has always differed. Women have been
illustrated as sexual, gentle creatures while men have been illustrated as the strong, authoritative
figures in our culture. However, these stereotypical portrayals have changed drastically over the
years. In past culture, women have always been the center of advertisements, while men have
stayed in the shadows. In present day culture, men are starting to play a larger role in
advertisements. However, many ads showcasing men have proved to be controversial. Susan Bordo,
the author of The MaleBody: A New Look at Men in Public and Private (1999) discusses the
different ways men have been used in campaigns throughout our history. Susan Bordo... Show more

According to society, men are supposed to be strong and athletic, however sensitive and
understanding at the same time. Both genders have equal pressures of their own, so each sex
should be seen in an equal state. I believe many companies use women for most ads is because
men are so respondent to visual senses. Studies of men show that men respond best to pictures. In
Susan Bordos essay, Deborah Blum states that testosterone is wired for visual response. (Bordo,
132). Even though this may be true about men, it still should not shock society as much when men
play the role women have for so long. I believe advertisements should stop using men and women
as sexual targets all together. These campaigns tell nothing about the product being advertised, and
companies need to start getting more creative with them. One advertisement that was displayed in
Susan Bordo s essay was one for Gucci underwear. In this ad, the man is not wearing the
underwear, he is holding them while the back of his body is exposed. When I look at this ad, It
does not make me want to learn more about the product and buy it because of the indecency of
the male. It makes me shy away from the product rather than become enthralled in it. I do not
believe this advertisement is beneficial and I do not believe it will make people buy the product. I
believe the Calvin Klein ad found on page 132 is much more effective. It catches people s attention

TRICARE Health Plans is the replacement for CHAMPUS which was the provider of health care
services for military dependents. TRICARE not only replaced CHAMPUS but its purpose was
also to facilitate members with access to better health care. Unfortunately, TRICARE has gone
through many changes and upheavals since its inception in 1997. First, they began by dividing the
company into regions. Each member was placed into a region based on where the military member
was stationed. If the member was stationed in Maryland then his family belonged to the East
Region. Unfortunately, there were many problems with this plan. First, some military members and

TRICARE has had many learning curves to overcome. In the beginning, the contractors were not
prepared to handle the amount of members that serve the United States Military. Also, they were
unprepared for the multitude of health issues that were plaguing the families. One such issue was
the Gulf War Syndrome which the United States Government was attempting to cover up. Over the
years, their service to members has improved but has a long way to go in order to compete with
some of the private health insurance plans that are available. Many families who have major health
issues find it more convenient to pay for private health insurance. This also allows for those
families to get care without going through the bureaucracy and red tape that surrounds TRICARE s
policies.
However, not all has been lost. TRICARE is striving to succeed in providing optimal care for their
members. They have taken the initiative to enact new policies and benefits that allow for members
to see many private and local physicians and dentists. This has had a great impact on how
TRICARE is being perceived not only by their members but also the surrounding communities.

Health Care Reform In Canada
Health care reform has been the main factor of parting between Canada and the United States, with
the different political systems of the countries influencing how the molding of the system occurs. A
Social Democratic Third Party in Canada had created the foundation of reform, the influence that a
third party had on the government of Canadawas significant (Maioni, 1997, p.415). The working
class banded together to support the third party in Canada to push for their rights in a way that the
major two parties were unable to do and unconcerned with doing, the third party that was supported
created essentially a voice that gave the working class a prominent position in their country with
concern to reform in health benefits. Within the United States... Show more content on

Beginning in Saskatchewan with the help of the Co Operative Commonwealth Federation in
coalition with the New Democratic Party holding control in the province of Sasakachwan and
acquiring great influence through the support of labour workers in other provinces they were
able to pressure the government towards reform and grasp the attention of the working class
(Maioni, 1997, p.415). The joining of an organization like the CCF and the political party of
NDP created great influence that led to the formation of universal health care by means of a third
party. As opposed to the United States who were unable to convince the organization nor the
political party to get involved in the reforms of health services, this stood in the way of reform,
the inability to form a coalition between these two groups and inability to convince them of
reforms in healthcare led to the rejection (Maioni, 1997, p.420). It was not solely an issue of the
lack of third party representation rather that health care reform was not an idea that had an
opportunity to be tested in a state under a trial basis therefore they were unable to weigh the
benefits or consequences as had happened in Saskatchewan, in which they essentially had senn how
the system worked and drew up the conclusion that that universal health care would be a benefit to
Canada (Maioni, 1997, p.421).

Argumentative Essay On Screen Time
Technology has been part of our daily live more frequently than before. Screen time has been
more popularly used on kids and adolescents. On a daily bases many kids seem to spend more
time inside on their tablets, instead of having to spend time with other kids. This is a problem that
is becoming more popular over the years,on whether kids need to spend that much time on
technology or not. Parents either seem to have strict technology usage, or they either don t. There
has always been a huge controversy with experts, who either think that screen time is beneficial or
could cause problems later on in life. There are many views towards this topic, from hurting kids

In order to balance both there has to be comparative with the parents. Technology isn t good nor
bad. It can only benefit the child if the parents put a limit to their time in the screen. Parents need
to set up a schedule in where the kids will follow the time the kids will be using the tablet
/ phone. As well have time to play with other kids, and just interact with there own family
member. In the article, Screen time: A guide for parents states, keeping computers out of the
bedroom, and keep them in a common area in your house. This will make sure that the child isn
t using their computers/ tablets during the time they have to rest. Kids need to have a good rest,
and not having technology in their rooms because it could cause irregular sleep. Just having the
parent take action in how much kids need to spend time in the screens can be a good start.
Luscombe argues, Take away the idea that all screens are bad, but the face to face time for young
people is an important part of the socialization process . Parents seem to not understand that
children need to develop good social skills, and that can only be done by interacting with others,
and get a sense on others points of views. Parents need to stop giving the kids technology to keep
them quiet for a while, because at the end it s hurting the child

August 2026 There Will Come Soft Rain And A Sound Of...
Both short stories, August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rain, and A Sound of
Thunder are written by Ray Bradbury. In these stories Bradbury describes futuristic details relating
back to a historical event that happen during the time he wrote the stories. These pieces of
literature were influenced by the political, social, and cultural climate of that time period. This
helps the readers view both stories through a lens of new historicism by revealing the relation of
past wars and the upcoming of new presidents in Bradbury s short stories.
In A Sound of Thunder, Ray Bradbury starts his story in the 2055 and time travels backward. The
story tells about a group traveling back in time to hunt dinosaurs, but one of the travelers, Eckels,
steps on a butterfly and then sets off a ripple in time. Before they began their travels, Eckles and
the man behind the desk talk about the recent election. They converse about how happy they were
that keith won the election and not Deutscher because Deutscher would have been the worst kind
of dictatorship. The man behind the desk was thrilled about the win for keith, just as Eckles was.
This creates a comparison to when Bradbury wrote the short story, which was in 1952. In 1952,
there was an election between Dwight D. Eisenhower and
Adlai E. Stevenson which concluded with Eisenhower s victory by a landslide. Stevenson didn t
get many votes due to his views and beliefs, just like Deutscher. Which is a key point and why

WORLDCOM headquarter in Virginia, USA.
WORLDCOM S ACCOUNTING SCANDAL
WorldCom, established in 1983, whose CEO was Bernard Ebbers, was the second largest long
distance phone company in the US after AT T. It could be seen as a pride of America until it got
into one of the biggest accounting scandals in the American history which finally led to its
bankruptcy in 2002. On July 21st, 2012, WorldCom filed for bankruptcy, which was worth 103.9
billion USD and became the largest filing at its time. Its CEO, Bernard ... Show more content on

There would be no effect on current net income as increasing in Equipment means increasing in
depreciation expense. Instead of being spent in the current year only, the cost is spread over many
years. At the moment, you may have the general image of the tactics that WorldCom used to cook
their books.
WorldCom announced $3.8 billion in improperly booked expenses for 2001 and 2002, and an
additional $3.3 billion in accounting errors. Moreover, WorldCom officially filed for bankruptcy
when found an accounting fraud with the amount up to $11 billion. So how did it happen? As
having mentioned, WorldCom s CEO Bernard Ebbers was convicted of being guilty for the stock
and accounting fraud, so it was obvious that the fraud occur from the management level of the
company. WorldCom s major operating expense was called line costs, which means cost paid to
lease other telephone operators network, phone lines and so on. In short, just remember that line
costs are its main operational expense. In 2000, WorldCom was actually not doing a good business,
and they somehow tried to cover the current reality by performing some magic with their
accounting stuff, and here is the thing: WorldCom was managing to cover the truth behind its
business, so according to his indictment, Mr. Scott Sullivan former CFO tried to move around the

Disease and Pathology
Human Herpesvirus 8 (HHV 8) is commonly known as Kaposi s sarcoma associated herpesvirus
(KSHV). A disease will become an emerging infectious disease when the incidence in humans
has increased in the past two decades (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). KSHV/HHV

Playing Video Games Is Not Only For Kids Anymore
Training up to 50 hours every week with your team in order to make it to the big leagues,
competing against other teams for fame, glory, money, and a chance to join one of the
professional teams. Does not sound like an especially rare scenario, but what if I told you I was
talking about video game players? That is right. Playing video games is not only for kids anymore.
During the last decade eSports (professional online gaming) have grown to an unexpected extent.
Professional players go through intense non stop training every week to keep up with other
teams. Call of Duty, Dota2, League of Legends, these are only a few examples of the most
popular games. Being a professional player is very time consuming and requires a lot of dedication.

I have been gaming for years and tried to go professional in more than one occasion. However, I
lacked the support to achieve so: my family never saw it as a career path that I could follow in
order to have what they considered a successful life, and school was a big impediment that did
not provide me with any help either. I know how it feels to try to go professional but not being
able to only because I didn t have the resources to even try.
First, let s talk about how professional gamers spend their day. The players on Team Liquid, a
professional League of Legends team, practice for a minimum of 40 hours per week and most
play the game far more, (Jacobs) stated Harrison Jacobs in his article Here s the insane training
schedule of a 20 something professional gamer. Harrison followed one of the most popular League
of Legends teams through 2015 s tournament season. They do not have breaks. Even free days
involve playing and discussing strategies. Practicing is a constant effort to avoid falling behind the
other teams and master the changes the game offers every couple of weeks. It is not simply playing
games, it is about mastering something you love. This requires

Ethics In The Crucible
In the concept of modernism there are two ethical ideas: theological ethics and humanistic
ethics. Two big influences of Puritan ideology and these ethics were Martin Luther and John
Calvin. From them came the ideas of limited atonement, irresistible grace, and on the opposite
side of thought, the idea that all people were endowed with grace from God. The three works
that we read all take these ideas into account, and the result is a common theme and ethics
between the reads. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, The Crucible, and The Scarlet Letter
all reflect the concept of theological ethics, or the idea that what God says must be done
regardless of the consequence. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God is a sermon by Rev.
Jonathan Edwards. In it, Reverend Edwards makes an appeal to sinners, in this case the Puritans
of Enfield, Connecticut, by preaching that God will judge them in a fearful and powerful way
unless they repent. He does this by using the idea of theological ethics to back up his sermon by
opening with a Bible verse that says, Their foot shall slide in due time. He then goes on to say that
the verse threatens the Puritan people with the vengeance of God. In other words, it is theological
ethics because he says that the verse... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In short, Abigail tries to claim that many people of the village, including John s wife Elizabeth,
were sinners. She specifically tried to convict Elizabeth because she felt that because she could not
have John, no one could. She does that through a trial where her and other female teenagers of the
village fake visions to convict so called witches. The judges of the trial use theological ethics to
justify the hangings of the witches by using religion and God as their reason. This is similar to how
Jonathan Edwards used the Bible to back up his belief that sinners who do not repent will go to

The Reasons for the Rise of the Nazi Dictatorship Essay
The reasons for the rise of the Nazi Dictatorship of the 1930 s and 40 s have been a topic much
debated upon by historians for decades. Arguably the most prominent theory is the idea of a
Sonderweg or special path taken by Germany that deviates from the normal path to modernity... the
British way, the first and therefore classical model. There is ample evidence of a Sonderweg
throughout Wilhelmine/Bismarckian Germany, from the lack of a real democracy in 1871 to
attempts to repress threats through policies such as Kulturkampf and the anti Socialist laws. There
is also evidence in Weimar Germany, such as the structural weaknesses of the constitution, for
example proportional representation and Article 48. There is, however, evidence... Show more

Another sign of a Sonderweg in Germany during Bismarck s reign was his attempts to repress
threats through force. Bismarck always held that the best foundation for an alliance was to have a
common enemy. This was illustrated in his Kulturkampf policies in which he attempted to appeal
to the Protestant population in the German Empire which made up 61% of the populous by
restricting and persecuting the Catholic population. For example, in 1872, religious schools were
forced to undergo official inspections carried out by the government and religious teachers were
banned from government schools. Then in May 1873 when the May Laws were enacted, nearly
half of all seminaries in Prussia closed as a result. Bismarck s failed attempts to suppress the threat
of the socialists through use of the anti Socialist laws was another sign of a special German path.
The laws did not ban the SPD directly but instead aimed to cripple it, so that it was no longer a
threat, through various means. Groups meeting who aimed to spread social democrat principles
were banned and trade unions were outlawed. Bismarck also introduced old age pensions, accident
and unemployment insurance and medical care in an attempt to win the support of the working
class and keep them content with the current regime. Despite these attempts to cripple the socialists,
the party continued to gain popular support.
During Bismarck s reign, there were attempts made by him to distract

An Analysis of William Edward Burghardt Du Bois Proposed...
Abstract Education is the most important part of any individual s life. It shapes characters and
builds personalities, introvert and extrovert, pessimistic and optimistic, loving and aggressive.
For a better society an improved educational system is a must, a system based on ethics and
knowledge. The paper examines the work and educational principles of W.E.B. Dubois and then
compares his proposed system to the currently prevalent educational system. Introduction
William Edward Burghardt Du Bois is one of the greatest African Americans in history. He was
born, 23rd February 1868 in Massachusetts. Du Bois had an unusual life, in the sense that in his
early years he knew nothing of the racial discrimination prevalent in the South. He lived a life of
privilege for a black in U.S. He faced neither outright discrimination nor economic difficulties. He
graduated as a Valedictorian and the only colored student and even went on to become the first
black to secure a doctorate degree in history, from Harvard. It was during graduation that he got
first taste of the racial prejudice prevalent in the American society. He began educating himself
in the history of discrimination. He took a Bachelor s degree from Fisk University, where he
came face to face with racism and frequent lynching or name calling. He vowed to elevate the
status of his race and help solve what he referred to as, the Negro problem. At Fisk he was part of

Why Might Parents Allow Their Children To Read Gothic...
Why Might Parents Allow Their Children to read Gothic Literature? Some parents may approve
of their children reading Gothic Literature because it teaches them moral lessons that they may
be able to use later on in life. Gothic Literature is a combination of the age of Romanticism and
Gothic elements, all tied into one. When parents allow their children to read Gothic Literature,
they are opening their children s minds up and allowing them to go into the dark world and face
many challenges and experiences in hopes of overcoming and conquering their fears that they may
have once had. Some parents believe that it has a positive effect in children s minds. They believe
that it is used to entertain the mind and teaches children that things are not always what they seem

because they are able to learn from these novels. Karen Sanchez Eppler refers to the passage from

children should be open to the supernatural elements that these Gothic novels portray. They believe
that if they allow their children to read these novels and to set fear in their children s minds that it

Logical Relationship Of Budgeting Management
LOGICAL RELATIONSHIP OF BUGDETINGS
Budgeting management plays critical role in organizations, it can help organizations to allocate
resource, force thinking about future and estimate performance base on benchmark. Normally,
management team and financial function provide budget plans at the beginning of a specific
period. It also plays the role of communication and co ordination around different levels of
organization. Although all of kinds of budget are run respectively, it is important to investigate
interrelationship between them.
The master budget relationship is showed below:
Production budget, which determine number of units the company needs to produce to meet sales
and ending inventory, interlinked sales budget and direct material budget, direct labor budget and
manufacture overhead budget.
We will discuss the logical relationship of budgets.
1.Sales budget
The sales budget reflected sales expectation of a company s for the budget period. The unit result
of sales budget is the basement of production budget. To calculate sales budget, companies need
variety sources of information. The most important source is historical data and marketing
forecast. The sales budget result comes from budgeted sales in units by selling price per unit. It is
clear that the sales budget of new product will have less accurateness then the grown up product, as
there is not much data can be used. The more historical data to be concerned, the accurateness of
result will be higher.

Meiying s Decision
Is love always beautiful? It will be great if it is, but life is not a romantic Disney story. Do not
kid yourself into believing that every love story has a happy ending, because in reality, such
perfection never exists. Indeed, love can sometimes be the cause of one s downfall by turning his
or her life into turmoil. Worst, it can scarily be used to justify one s action in harming others. In
The Jade Peonywritten by Wayson Choy, Sek Lung informs us of the existence of a Romeo and
Juliet kind of tragedy through his narration of the love story of Meiying, his babysitter to whom he
looks up. This forbidden love had unfortunately caused Meiying to be a criminal because her

glinting between [her] legs (Choy 275), showing her effort in aborting her baby. Meiying has
bravely decided to put an end to the life of her own child using her own two hands because of the
external and internal pressures surrounding her pregnancy. Meiying thinks that her pregnancy is
socially unacceptable and it clashes with her interests.

A Visit From St. Nicholas By Clement Moore
Clement Clarke Moore s narrative poem A Visit from St. Nicholas , also known as The Night
before Christmas , was written in order to be read to his children on the night before Christmas. His
poem unintentionally sought its way into publication and introduced America the conception and
perceived image of Santa Claus(St. Nicholas) and established American family traditions with the
retelling of its story. Throughout the world, the poem still is read and recited to children on
ChristmasEve by parents as a tradition of the holiday season. Here, Moore tells the story of one
family s visit from St. Nick on Christmas Eve. The father, set as the speaker of the poem, is
awaken by Santa and observes his arrival, reindeers, appearance, actions and departure. Moore
effectively builds anticipation for Christmas for kids and generates feelings of nostalgia for adults
when he portrays the poem s underlying theme of the childhood innocence. He does so by crafting
his writing to sound enchanting and child friendly, reiterated in his rhyme scheme, structure, and
poetic elements in A Visit from St. Nicholas , allowing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the reasoning for his actions. How he used the C.I.A to target low income African American
communities. Plus, the overall effects this has on the U.S. to this day.
In 1982 the crack epidemic started, which shortly after Ronald Reagan expanded the war on drugs
that Nixon started, one of his top aides admitted that the war on drugs was used to target African
Americans and hippies . The number of incarcerations before the war on drugs was expanded in
1980 was four thousand seven hundred forty nine for drug related crimes, in 1990 that number
increased to twenty four thousand two hundred ninety seven, sixty percent of those incarcerations
were African Americans (sentencingproject.org). If you were caught with one gram of crack you

these that targeted lower income black communities because crack was much cheaper than cocaine

Little Fish and Forrest Gump are both majorly socially and culturally significant with their
portrayals of everyday life struggles, whether that s in Australia or around the world, such as drug

as well as racism, sexism and marginalization of the eras and societies of which these two mind

The impact of these two epic tales socially and culturally on audiences watching these films is
astounding, they make you think about the abuse, violence, marginalization, racism etc. going on
in the world and possibly your back yard so to speak. The actors, specifically Tom Hanks(Forrest

Setting And Symbolism In The Piano Lesson By August Wilson
A haunting of the past
In August Wilson s play, The piano lesson, the author takes his readers on a journey through the
life of the Charles family. Sister and brother battle each other over a piano that tells their family s
history. Through examining their history, Wilson uses setting and symbolism to convey his
personal belief in the importance of one s ancestral family roots and the significant impact it has
in a person s everyday life. The author uses setting to introduce the significance in the ancestry of
the Charles family and further examine the troubling state of the current generation. Wilson grew
up in a non wealthy colored district in which he set most of his plays (Fisher, James), so there is
no surprise that Wilson s play has black roots that are relatable to his past ,also acting as salute to
people of color (Gantt, Patricia). His strong connection to African American roots are why
censors ,who have criticized Wilsons work, applaud him on his capability to make interesting
characters and pull from African American folklore (Bloom, Harold), and in doing so, he shared
much of his native craft and technique (Tracie, Guzzio). A man owns the Charles family, whose
grandparents had ownership of his grandparents, and he happens to also be man who held the title
of Robert Stutter (Bryer, Jackson R., and Mary C. Hartig, Wilson 1.2.8). In the play, a major
flashback occurs on a slave plantation where the older Charles family must to pick cotton (2.1.7).
The setting is critical to the family when it comes to the readers understanding of the present
Charles s past, as their grandparents were slaves which in turn made life for the future generations a
lot harder. Although Bernice lives in Pittsburgh (1.1.5), it is still hard for colored people to make a
living and buy food from white only markets, so instead, their parents teach them things such as
how to kill a chicken (2.2.10). Wilson uses setting to show that even though Bernice lives in a
different environment than that of which her family roots originate, their individualities interrupt
and cross within her own (Lise, Kidergurd), and the physical things, such as her skin color, still
affect her present life. Although Bernice does not wish to

Quantitative Vs. Qualitative
3.2.2 Quantitative VS Qualitative
According to Yin (2003), there are two types of research approach. This includes quantitative
research approach and qualitative research approach. A quantitative research emphasizes on
transforming the data to numbers, quantities and statistics to formulate facts and to uncover
patterns in a research. It addresses research purposes through empirical analysis that involve
numerical measurement, the relationship between variables and analysis approaches (Zikmund et
al., 2010). The sample size being investigated is typically large (Anderson, 2006). Quantitative
research mainly uses questionnaires, surveys and other equipment to collect numerical or
measurable data (Anderson, 2006). On the other hand, a qualitative research typically emphasizes

relatively small samples and is normally not analyzed with statistical technique. This type of
research is normally to answer how or why questions (Yin, 2003). The methods of collecting data
sources are mainly interviewing, focus groups, observation and document reviews (Meurer et al.,
2007). The main purpose of this kind of research is to gather an in depth understanding of the
phenomenon studied and to describe the situation through detailed information (Adar, 2011). The
purpose of this study is to gain insightful information in order to have a better understanding on
how internal and external factors influence SME s in choosing the right market entry mode.

2012 Penny Essay Conclusion
Summary: Each penny had individual measurements taken. The 1984 penny had more mass than
the 2012 penny, which was interesting to discover because the gold coloring added mass to the
penny. In addition, all of the pennies stayed relatively the same in terms of mass, the hundredths
place. The weight difference shows that the pennies mass changed during the changes. Finally, the
gold penny had the largest density. The silverpenny had the second largest density, and the copper
penny had the least largest density. The changes of the penny added density and mass each time.
With the information, it appears that the mass increased by .03 after each change.
Conclusion
The purpose of this lab was to transmute a simple penny from copper to silver to gold using
ordinary chemical and physical changes. To transmute a copper penny into silver and gold, two
trials were performed in order to transmute two of the pennies. The 1985 penny, which remained
copper, was unaffected. The 1984 and 2012 pennies were each turned into silver. Lastly, the 2012
penny was turned silver and then into gold using an extra change. Since the pennies showed a
transmutation, the purpose was proven to be accurate. Since the 1985 penny stayed the same,
measurements were taken immediately. The 1985 penny had a thickness of 0.28 centimeters. ...

The 2012 penny was held, with tongs, in the hottest part of the bunsen burner. The penny turned
uniformly gold. After the penny was rinsed with cold water, measurements were taken on the
2012 penny. The 2012 penny, which was gold, had a thickness of 0.11 centimeters. The mass of
the gold penny was 2.46 grams, with the diameter being 1.89 centimeters. Looking at the results,
the 2012 penny was the least thick of the group. In addition, the 2012 penny was more heavy than
the 1985 (copper) penny, but less heavy compared to the 1984 (silver)

General Sherman And The Match Of The Sea

General William Sherman and the match to the sea
Introduction
General Sherman s contribution to the Civil War will forever be remembered in history, although
he made some miscalculations, his mistakes did nothing to his reputation unlike his brilliance in
strategizing . His military exploits went far beyond getting the attention of American military
historians; it went all the way to the shores of Europe. Military historian Basil Liddell Hart
compiled a list of the best military strategists and General Sherman was among them, along with
others like Napoleon Bonaparte, and Von Clausewitz. General Sherman s effort in this campaign
helped the Union Army deliver the crippling blow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He first saw action in Florida against the Seminole Indians. However, he was not involved in the
Mexican American war like most of his contemporaries. As a result of this he quit in 1853, then
joined his brother in the banking industry.
Sherman s Military Career
During this time he was appointed to the position of superintendent for the Louisiana Military
Academy in 1859. However, after the onset of the Civil War Sherman left his post as the
Superintendent and went north where he became a Colonel in the 13th United States Infantry .
General Sherman later experienced combat at the first Battle of Bull Run, where he led a division
of General Tyler s men. Unfortunately, he lost the battle, but President Abraham Lincolnsaw his
promise and promoted him to Brigadier General on August seventh, 1861.
Before his March to the sea he had accomplished a lot, an example of this is the Atlanta campaign
that took place between May and September 1864. Together with General Grant, they believed that
they had to destroy the Confederacy s capacity for waging war. They would do this by attacking the
economic, strategic, and physiological aspects of the South to bring it to its knees. The strategies
that Sherman adopted could be compared with the scorched earth tactic that entailed destroying
everything. Although he instructed his men to only destroy infrastructure in place where guerrilla
warfare overwhelmed his army . He quickly

The Pros And Cons Of Twin Metals
Copper is a common material used in our daily lives. We use it for electrical generators and
electrical wiring. It is used in our phones and other technology. With the increase in demand for
technology, the need for copper for those products has also increased. Twin Metals is a Minnesota
mining company that wants to open an underground copper mine near the boundary waters. The
Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) is a Minnesota preserve in the Superior
National Forest that has hiking trails and lakes for canoeing. They do not allow motorised vehicles
on the preserve. The question I m investigating is Can Twin Metals open and safely operate a
copper mine near the BWCAW?
Twin Metals has spent more than five years conducting environmental studies that they plan to use
in their Environmental Impact Statement. The copper mine will produce tailings which are waste
left over from mining and extracting resources. Twin Metals plans to store half of the tailings as
cemented backfill in the mine. The rest will be stored in the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF). Twin
Metals also conducted tests that show the tailings will not generate acid. Another pro is that they
will create about 650 full time jobs and 1,300 additional jobs in industries. ... Show more content on

Sulfuric acid is a colorless oily liquid that is corrosive to tissue and metals. If there is a leak
from the mine, because of where the mine would be located, the sulfuric acid could pollute the
boundary waters. This could damage fish and waterfowl. Over 1,000 acres of wetland will be
destroyed for the mine. Mining by products will put humans at higher risk for cancer and other
illnesses. Almost 99% of rocks mined for copper are waste. There have been several instances of
copper mines leaking. In the Coquimbo region, Los Pelambres dumped 13,000 liters into the Choapa

  • 2. What Is The Theme In The Conference Of The Birds Introduction This essay will attempt to delve into the meaning and thus, deliver a commentary on one of the greatest Sufi poems of all times, The Conference of the Birds (Manteq at Tair) written by the great Persian Sufi poet Farid ud Din Attar, who was born during the twelfth century in Neishapour in north west Iran and spent his childhood being educated at the theological school attached to the shrine of Imam Reza at Mashhad. (Darbandi Davis 1). The poem written by Attar can be seen as an allegory of a spiritual pilgrimage, like that of Dante s Divine Comedy and Chaucer s Canterbury Tales. (Davis et al. 401). However, before moving forward, it is imperative to clarify that since the poem is composed of 4500 lines, only a stanza has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Conference of the Birds is an epic Sufi poem, owing to it long length and the narrative that it attempts to knit together. One of the rhetorical devices used frequently by the poet Attar in his works is that of anaphora, which is the repetition of a certain word or phrase over and over again within an extended paragraph or few lines. (Darbandi Davis 9). Moreover, Attar also uses the common masnavi metre of Persian narrative poetry; where the rhymes occur within the line and each line has a different rhyme thereby, rendering it almost identical to the English heroic couplet. (Darbandi Davis 9). Not only that, he also makes use of Persian metaphors in his work which are quite different from that of the metaphors found in the English poetry, as the former juxtapose words in such a way so as to deepen the meanings implied by the passage. • 3. Summary Of Utiima By Ultima In the novel, Antonio s uncle, Lucas, was on the verge of dying due to a curse placed upon him by witches. A priest and a doctor had tried to deal with Lucas illness, but were unsuccessful at their attempts at doing so. It was noted that Lucas had witnessed Tenorio s daughters performing a satanic ritual, also known as the Black Mass . Afterwards, Lucas had tried to test whether or not Tenorio s daughters were indeed witches, but they had ran away once they noticed a makeshift cross. As all other measures had been taken, Lucas brother, Pedro, had asked Ultima to help. Ultima had agreed to help, but before Ultima would attend to Uncle Lucas, she has a confrontation with Tenorio. Within the story, the reader comes to understand that Ultima blames the curse placed on Lucas on the daughters of Tenorio. I have come to lift a curse. (Merriam.com) Hip hop music is one of the most listened to genres in history. Hip hop music started in the mid 1970 s, but some say that it started much earlier. Many people today would argue that Hip Hop is disgraceful now a days, and that it has no positive message given. Me personally, I would agree since the days have changed over time. I could also argue that music as a whole has changed and wouldn t always be the same, but that s not the main point. The main point is to show how Hip hop music is actually positive. For starters, music has always been very special to people. Music can affect people, even more than people affect people. Think about it, even in the bible days, Lucifer was the ruler over music. God s most beautiful angel controlled music and the music set the tone in heaven. Yes, music has a very strong impact on humans, animals, and deities out there. Hip Hop is an awesome form of music. Hip Hop started off from poetry. Yes Langston Hughes would be known as a lyricist in today s era. It was meant to express the troubles and sadness throughout the lives of blacks. Hip Hop has gone through it s changed throughout time. As technology advanced Hip hop has also advanced too an extent . • 5. Summary Of The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock In T. S. Eliot s The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock , the title alone is ironic because throughout the poem Prufrock struggles with being unable to talk to anyone, yet the poem is supposed to be a love song (Eliot). The epigraph of the poem is quoted directly from Dante s Inferno , the translation says If I thought that my answer were being made to someone who would ever return to earth, this flame would remain without further movement; but since no one has ever returned alive from this depth, if what I hear is true, I answer you without fear of infamy (qtd. in Eliot). This quote correlates to the way Prufrock tells us his fears and feelings due to the reader being unable to tell the people in the poem what Prufrock says. In the first line, Prufrock says Let us go then, you and I (Eliot, ln. 1), the you in the poem is not directly referred to as the reader or the recipient of the love song (Eliot). The first stanza sets in place that this is not a love song like the title says. It begins by comparing the sky to a patient etherized upon a table (Eliot, ln. 3) and offers to take the you in the poem down half deserted streets, .... Restless nights in one night cheap hotels and sawdust restaurants with oyster shells (Eliot, ln. 4 7) which are not places you go for a romantic setting. These thoughts lead him to an overwhelming question, but begs do not ask, What is it? (Eliot, ln. 11 12). In the third stanza, Prufrock switches from the present tense in which he says Let us go (Eliot, ln. 1) to saying there will be time (Eliot, ln. 23) which shows how the question he doesn t want to answer is causing him to prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet (Eliot, ln. 27). Every decision he tries to make leads to a hundred indecisions, and time yet for a hundred visions and revisions before the taking of a toast and tea (Eliot, ln. 31 34). This indecisiveness to a lack in self confidence beginning with Do I dare? ...With a bald spot in the middle of my hair (Eliot, ln. 38 40). In these stories Bradbury describes futuristic details relating back to a historical event that happen during the time he wrote the stories. These pieces of literature were influenced by the political, social, and cultural climate of that time period. This helps the readers view both stories through a lens of new historicism by revealing the relation of past wars and the upcoming of new presidents in Bradbury s short stories. • 23. Ethics In The Crucible In the concept of modernism there are two ethical ideas: theological ethics and humanistic ethics. Two big influences of Puritan ideology and these ethics were Martin Luther and John Calvin. From them came the ideas of limited atonement, irresistible grace, and on the opposite side of thought, the idea that all people were endowed with grace from God. The three works that we read all take these ideas into account, and the result is a common theme and ethics between the reads. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, The Crucible, and The Scarlet Letter all reflect the concept of theological ethics, or the idea that what God says must be done regardless of the consequence. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God is a sermon by Rev. Jonathan Edwards. In it, Reverend Edwards makes an appeal to sinners, in this case the Puritans of Enfield, Connecticut, by preaching that God will judge them in a fearful and powerful way unless they repent. He does this by using the idea of theological ethics to back up his sermon by opening with a Bible verse that says, Their foot shall slide in due time. He then goes on to say that the verse threatens the Puritan people with the vengeance of God. In other words, it is theological ethics because he says that the verse... • 24. The Reasons for the Rise of the Nazi Dictatorship Essay The reasons for the rise of the Nazi Dictatorship of the 1930 s and 40 s have been a topic much debated upon by historians for decades. Arguably the most prominent theory is the idea of a Sonderweg or special path taken by Germany that deviates from the normal path to modernity... the British way, the first and therefore classical model. There is ample evidence of a Sonderweg throughout Wilhelmine/Bismarckian Germany, from the lack of a real democracy in 1871 to attempts to repress threats through policies such as Kulturkampf and the anti Socialist laws. There is also evidence in Weimar Germany, such as the structural weaknesses of the constitution, for example proportional representation and Article 48. There is, however, evidence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another sign of a Sonderweg in Germany during Bismarck s reign was his attempts to repress threats through force. Bismarck always held that the best foundation for an alliance was to have a common enemy. This was illustrated in his Kulturkampf policies in which he attempted to appeal to the Protestant population in the German Empire which made up 61% of the populous by restricting and persecuting the Catholic population. For example, in 1872, religious schools were forced to undergo official inspections carried out by the government and religious teachers were banned from government schools. Then in May 1873 when the May Laws were enacted, nearly half of all seminaries in Prussia closed as a result. Bismarck s failed attempts to suppress the threat of the socialists through use of the anti Socialist laws was another sign of a special German path. The laws did not ban the SPD directly but instead aimed to cripple it, so that it was no longer a threat, through various means. Groups meeting who aimed to spread social democrat principles were banned and trade unions were outlawed. Bismarck also introduced old age pensions, accident and unemployment insurance and medical care in an attempt to win the support of the working class and keep them content with the current regime. Despite these attempts to cripple the socialists, the party continued to gain popular support. During Bismarck s reign, there were attempts made by him to distract ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For a better society an improved educational system is a must, a system based on ethics and knowledge. The paper examines the work and educational principles of W.E.B. Dubois and then compares his proposed system to the currently prevalent educational system. Introduction William Edward Burghardt Du Bois is one of the greatest African Americans in history. He was born, 23rd February 1868 in Massachusetts. Du Bois had an unusual life, in the sense that in his early years he knew nothing of the racial discrimination prevalent in the South. He lived a life of privilege for a black in U.S. He faced neither outright discrimination nor economic difficulties. He graduated as a Valedictorian and the only colored student and even went on to become the first black to secure a doctorate degree in history, from Harvard. It was during graduation that he got first taste of the racial prejudice prevalent in the American society. He began educating himself in the history of discrimination. He took a Bachelor s degree from Fisk University, where he came face to face with racism and frequent lynching or name calling. He vowed to elevate the status of his race and help solve what he referred to as, the Negro problem. At Fisk he was part of the Mozart society, editor of college newspaper and a ... A Visit From St. Nicholas By Clement Moore Clement Clarke Moore s narrative poem A Visit from St. Nicholas , also known as The Night before Christmas , was written in order to be read to his children on the night before Christmas. His poem unintentionally sought its way into publication and introduced America the conception and perceived image of Santa Claus(St. Nicholas) and established American family traditions with the retelling of its story. Throughout the world, the poem still is read and recited to children on ChristmasEve by parents as a tradition of the holiday season. Here, Moore tells the story of one family s visit from St. Nick on Christmas Eve. The father, set as the speaker of the poem, is awaken by Santa and observes his arrival, reindeers, appearance, actions and departure. Moore effectively builds anticipation for Christmas for kids and generates feelings of nostalgia for adults when he portrays the poem s underlying theme of the childhood innocence. He does so by crafting his writing to sound enchanting and child friendly, reiterated in his rhyme scheme, structure, and poetic elements in A Visit from St. Nicholas , allowing... • 38. Setting And Symbolism In The Piano Lesson By August Wilson A haunting of the past In August Wilson s play, The piano lesson, the author takes his readers on a journey through the life of the Charles family. Sister and brother battle each other over a piano that tells their family s history. Through examining their history, Wilson uses setting and symbolism to convey his personal belief in the importance of one s ancestral family roots and the significant impact it has in a person s everyday life. The author uses setting to introduce the significance in the ancestry of the Charles family and further examine the troubling state of the current generation. Wilson grew up in a non wealthy colored district in which he set most of his plays (Fisher, James), so there is no surprise that Wilson s play has black roots that are relatable to his past ,also acting as salute to people of color (Gantt, Patricia). His strong connection to African American roots are why censors ,who have criticized Wilsons work, applaud him on his capability to make interesting characters and pull from African American folklore (Bloom, Harold), and in doing so, he shared much of his native craft and technique (Tracie, Guzzio). A man owns the Charles family, whose grandparents had ownership of his grandparents, and he happens to also be man who held the title of Robert Stutter (Bryer, Jackson R., and Mary C. Hartig, Wilson 1.2.8). In the play, a major flashback occurs on a slave plantation where the older Charles family must to pick cotton (2.1.7). The setting is critical to the family when it comes to the readers understanding of the present Charles s past, as their grandparents were slaves which in turn made life for the future generations a lot harder. Although Bernice lives in Pittsburgh (1.1.5), it is still hard for colored people to make a living and buy food from white only markets, so instead, their parents teach them things such as how to kill a chicken (2.2.10). Wilson uses setting to show that even though Bernice lives in a different environment than that of which her family roots originate, their individualities interrupt and cross within her own (Lise, Kidergurd), and the physical things, such as her skin color, still affect her present life. The 1984 penny had more mass than the 2012 penny, which was interesting to discover because the gold coloring added mass to the penny. In addition, all of the pennies stayed relatively the same in terms of mass, the hundredths place. The weight difference shows that the pennies mass changed during the changes. Finally, the gold penny had the largest density. The silverpenny had the second largest density, and the copper penny had the least largest density. The changes of the penny added density and mass each time. With the information, it appears that the mass increased by .03 after each change. Conclusion The purpose of this lab was to transmute a simple penny from copper to silver to gold using ordinary chemical and physical changes. To transmute a copper penny into silver and gold, two trials were performed in order to transmute two of the pennies. The 1985 penny, which remained copper, was unaffected. The 1984 and 2012 pennies were each turned into silver. Lastly, the 2012 penny was turned silver and then into gold using an extra change.
