Nirvana Essay
For this field trip we visited the exhibition called Shifting objectives held at M plus pavilion. The
show introduces the history of twentieth and twenty first century design in Asia within a global
framework. It was Indeed an eye opening experience to broaden our understanding over those iconic
designs of different countries from pluralistic perspectives. In this report, I would like to compare two
of the Japanese chair designs shown in the exhibition: Zaisu and Nirvana. First and foremost, Zaisu,
which in Japanese means legless chair, is a modern design by the Japanese designer Kenmochi Isamu.
It epitomizes the booming innovative design industry after post war period. The chair was made of
rosewood veneering plywood. In terms of design ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It suffices to question those unnecessary ornamentations of postmodern design. But what is certain is
that the latter blurs the line between art and design. It is reminiscent of the post modernism precursor
Duchamp, whose iconic work Fountain stirs much controversy about the identity of an object. It casts
interesting questions: are things what they perceptually appear to be? Why are things they are?
Although both Zaisu and Nirvana each represents their own stylistic period, they still share a few
things in common. In similarity, both designs feature sleek and inviting design that often appeared in
Japanese style. They have minimalistic geometric shape, and the lines are rounded, rather than
angular. The dark color of both also suggests solidarity and reliability. In reflection, both the modern
and post modern designs inspire me in its own ways. The function and form of modern design creates
the fundamentals of good design that permeates our daily lives. On the other hand, Nirvana reminds
me of exceeding beyond boundary in design, giving new expression and liberating ourselves from
what we know and see every day. It inspires me to view a good design not just based on its
functionality, but also on aspects beyond. The same applies to my work because I now have learnt a
good artist and designer should keep finding new approaches to create their

Theme Of Prejudice In 12 Angry Men
Back in 1957 MGM released a film directed by Sidney Lumet that is considered a masterpiece today
same as it was back then. There is a very good reason for that, this film has aged very well. It deals
with the same topics we have to deal with in today s society. Today it seems people are just as divided
as they were in the 50 s. That is what 12 Angry Men does so well, it handles the topic of prejudice.
How does it show this? 12 Angry Men shows us different jurors with different prejudices that are
revealed through their attitudes, beliefs, and words.
It is easy to spot prejudice through attitude because of the way they act around or talking about the
person or a community they have a prejudice about. Prejudice is an unjustified or incorrect attitude
(usually negative) towards an individual based solely on the individual s membership of a social group
(McLeod 1). In the film almost, everyone is ready to sentence an eighteen year old boy to death for
murder. Most do this just because of the evidence, but jurors three and ten have different attitudes
about the situation. Juror three has a different attitude because of his son and the relationship he
created there. He abused his son and now he has left him, the guilt he has is more than apparent
through his anger. Juror ten also shows anger and it is not apparent as to why until later when he starts
speaking.
The beliefs of the individual characters can say a lot about them because it reinforces their prejudices.

Persuasive Essay On Redemption
In the Bible there is a story about a cruel and hateful man named Saul. He would track down and kill
anyone belonging to the then new Christian faith, and he hated anything to do with Jesus. He would
put both men and women into prison, and he was responsible for approving the stoning of one of the
seven disciples told to go out and tell people about Jesus, Stephen. And he is probably one of the most
classic examples of redemption known to Western Christian civilization. To put his long story
concisely, he was traveling to Damascus and then Jesus approached him from heaven, blinding him
with light and telling him he needed to do what Jesus said. Blind and helpless, he didn t eat or drink
anything for three days, and then Jesus sent a man named Ananias who was actually very much afraid
of Saul to heal his blindness, because God had chosen him to be a disciple. When Saul was healed, he
turned away from his genocidal ways, and eventually became known as Paul, a messenger of the
Good News of Christ and the main writer of a chunk of the New Testament of the Bible. This Saul to
Paul effect, while one of the earlier examples of redemption from evil acts, has certainly not been the
last. Redemption has always been a controversial topic, particularly if one s crimes are numerous
and/or horrific part of the reason the death penalty is so often debated in America for its morality. But
what people have really never agreed on is where the breaking point is of what can be forgiven and

Presentation Of A Cook Is A Person Who Can Change Anyone...
A cook is a person who can change anyone s mood by giving tasty food. Growing up I never thought
that being a chef at a restaurant in the casino was the profession I would have, but here I am. I started
with an interest in art, then acting and poetry when I was younger, then food became my fascination
and cooking became my passion. I find it enjoyable being able to cook for people and provide them
with a sense of satisfaction.
The power to heal others and to offer myself immortality. I in fact love this life and what it, brings.
The good is worth nothing without the bad, and they have come together to be a great experience and
one that I never want to end.
There is a similar goal by all chefs here, and that is to determine how to grow and develop the St.
Louis food, wine and cocktail experience further than anyone s dreams. I am honored to have the
chance to cook in our beautiful city and watch the development of food in St Louis grow.
I observe the young cooks who are just starting out in this business. They are watching all of us
experienced chefs who are running kitchens. I just advise them to devote on their work to become the
best chef of the area. Let me introduce myself my name is Walt and I thought about writing this blog
to share my wisdom when it comes to all things food related.

The Impact Of Coaching On Adults With Obesity
The Impact of Coaching on Adults with Obesity
Andrea Bellamy
Liberty University
Abstract
Obesity is a major issue in the United States. Not only is it a risk factor for other chronic diseases such
as hypertension and diabetes, but it also has a significant impact on a person s long term health and
wellness. Research has identified health coaching as an effective intervention for decreasing obesity in
adults. This paper described the purpose/need of health coaching, effective techniques involved in the
coaching process, its impact on adults with obesity.

Health coaching is client oriented and works to establish behavior changes in order to improve the
quality of a person s life (Kivela et al., 2014). This paper will describe the purpose/need of health
coaching, effective techniques involved in the coaching process, and its impact on adults with obesity.
It will also identify how the effectiveness of health coaching on obesity will impact the author s
coaching business, methods of practice, and the author personally.
According to Wong Rieger Rieger (2013), the addition of health coaching is significantly more
effective than health education alone. Health coaching involves motivating clients to identify and
achieve goals that can help them to improve their health and quality of life (Kivela et al., 2014).
Health coaches help clients to identify and overcome obstacles that affect their ability to make positive
health choices (Kivela et al., 2014). Health coaches are not experts, but rather they work together with
their clients to set goals, problem solve and hold the client accountable for their actions (Wong Rieger
Rieger, 2013).
Because of the significant increase of obesity in the United States, researchers believe that behavioral
factors play more of a vital role than biological factors in the development of obesity (Newnham
Kanas, Irwin, Morrow Battram, 2011). This is why an effective health coaching approach combines

The Joy Luck Club Narrative Style
In The Joy Luck Club, Tan has purposely externalized the eight characters mental world by allowing
each of them to tell her own story in a deceptively simple manner, thus allowing the reader to plunge
into the mind of the characters. The motives, desires, pains, pleasures, and concerns of the characters
are thereby effectively dramatized. This particular writing strategy allows Tan to transcend the
conventional novelistic dichotomy of preferred showing and undesirable telling. The stories thus tell
us a great deal about individual characters, their reaction to each other, and their activities together.
The Joy Luck Club is a bridge uniting both space and time. It connects the sixteen intricately
interlocking stories and helps to reveal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike Tan s other novels, which are based on oral narratives of mothers, this story develops by the act
of documenting past. Ruth who is the ghost writer, major character, starts to amend her life by
initiating a unique creative writing, with all immaculate insight that she has attained about herself. In
other words, by looking back and by the power of recalling past memories, Ruth has obtained a new
vision of future; as she writes the story of her mother and her grandmother, she reveals her vision, in
the closing words of the novel, They write about what happened, why it happened, how they can make
other things happen. They write stories of things that are but should not have been. They write about
what could have been, what still might be. They write of a past that can be changed. Ruth discovers
the answer to her philosophical questions about life. Interestingly, this insight belongs to a feminine
sphere and its instructors are all women who share their memories with their daughters, to protect
them from hazards of life. Therefore, this story develops by the act of documenting past. However, the
written word serves to perform as the savior of ancestral memories and preserves the history of a
family and in larger scale, a

Accuracy Of Wikipedia
Wikipedia is a very popular site that includes very reliable information. In fact, students and
researchers use the site for their individual projects. Certainly, people visit the site for personal reasons
too. For example, to find out more about their favorite sports team or to look up information on a city
that they plan to visit. However, some educators and students got together recently. They proposed a
question. Are Wikipedia articles really that accurate. Some feel that educators and researchers have a
duty or responsibility to make sure that the information supplied on the site is entirely accurate. Thus,
the Wikipedia writing project was born. University students are creating and editing pages to boost the

Dormant Commerce Clause
The decision of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals should be affirmed. The state of Eastland s waste
disposal regulation is neither discriminatory nor protectionist. Historically, businesses and
professionals know that licensing requirements and authority belongs solely to states and local
governments. A state government does not violate the commerce clause when it sets licensing
requirements for incineration and interment of fetal tissues pursuant to its autonomy and police
powers in carrying out local activities that has always been its traditional functions to ensure the
health and safety of its citizens. Also, a state acts legitimately and fairly when having properly taxed

A state or local authority does not necessarily violate the commerce clause when having created a
market through a state funded program requires out of staters to pay a minimal percentage as their fair
share to participate in the program. McBurney v. Young, 133 S. Ct. 1709 (2013). While this
requirement might seem protectionist in a loose sense, it simply reflects the fundamental function of a
state government to maintain an even handed and fair access to state services for the benefit of all
residents. The fee in question is to be applied to an activity with a substantial nexus with Eastland, it is
minimal and fairly apportioned, and it is nondiscriminatory. Furthermore, there is an undeniable
rational relationship between the fee and the activity covered. Trinova Corp. v. Mich. Dep t of
Treasury, 498 U.S. 358 (1991). The citizens of Eastland has already paid their fair quota through the
state tax, which out of staters did not pay. It is only fair that they contribute their fair share to benefit
from the program. Additionally, the money will cover the extra cost necessary to maintain the routine
and proper inspection of the out of state disposal services. Even if, concededly, there is any burden on
interstate commerce, it

Operant Condition Paper
I would like to start off by defining the Operant condition is a method of learning that occurs through
rewards and punishments for behavior. In the operant conditioning, an association is made between a
behavior and a consequence for that behavior (Cherry 1).This theory was made by B.F. Skinner known
as Skinnerian. As a behaviorist, Skinner believed that it was not really necessary to look at internal
thoughts and motivations in order to explain behavior. Instead, he suggested, we should look only at
the external, observable causes of human behavior (Cherry 1). According to the Power Point, there are
three process of Operating Conditions Extinction, Generalization, and Discriminative Stimuli.
Extinction is weakening and disappearance of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next process of Operant Conditioning is generalization which means tendency to make the
learned response to a stimulus similar to that for which the response was originally reinforced
(Chapter 5 Power Point ).According to the text, a great example by describing the less similar the
color the pigeon saw the less it picked. The last process of Operating Condition is Discriminative
Stimuli which means a stimulus that signals whether a response or behavior will be rewarded,
punished or even ignore. When dealing with behavior you ll always have a punishment for a behavior.
When acquired through Operant Condition there are two types of punishments Positive and Negative
punishment. Positive punishment involves the presentation of an unfavorable event or outcome in
order to weaken the response it follows. Negative punishment occurs when a favorable event or
outcome is removed after a behavior occurs. In both Positive or Negative punishment deals with
decreasing of the behaviors. There is also a disadvantage from punishment is that a person may
become very angry, fearful and hostile towards the punisher. When having these symptoms are
emotions it can sometimes result into lashing, or acting out of control. When dealing with these
punishments it can affect the body positively when being applied

Grimm s Fairytales
Introduction: Grimm Fairy Tales is a popular genre to children and society. The stories and remakes of
the fairy tales are the basis of the original. Grimm Fairy tales include Snow White, Sleeping Beauty,
Cinderella, Ariel, Rapunzel and many others. The story usually includes a curse, a fairy or magic, a
prince saving the princess and a moral. Fairy tales have a huge impact on pop culture and how
children and young adults perceive reality and love. For English class, we are presenting a research

During world war two, people thought the fairytale encouraged genocide because of the intense death
in some of Grimm Brothers stories. Bettelheim took a psychological approach in his book The Uses of
Enchantment and believed that fairytales arose from children s subconscious as he sought to
demonstrate fairy tales accurately projected children s psychological needs and neatly describe their
psychosexual desires. (Buttigheimer, Par 17) In contrast, most theorist believed that fairy tales create a
social norm and motifs for children. In modern day, fairytales have more egocentric values. The
stories I chose to research were Little Red Cap, Rapunzel, Little Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, and
Little Briar Rose. Little Red Cap is a tale of a young girl who is deceived by a wolf, who then tries to

How does William Wordsworth s poetry fit into the literary tradition of Romanticism?
Q. How does William Wordsworth s poetry fit into the literary tradition of Romanticism?
A. Romantic poetry was an artistic movement of the late 18th and early
19th century. It dealt with nature, human imagination, childhood and the ability to recall emotional
memories of both happiness and sadness. Before Wordsworth began writing his revolutionary new
style of poetry, all preceding poetry had a very different style.
The reason these poems were classed as revolutionary was because he believed that romantic poetry
should describe incidents of common life and ordinary people and were written in deliberately plain
words. It was what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This shows how happy she is at seeing her cottage, in the countryside that she loves.
However, this soon fades. The images go away and she is sad once again as she goes back to her
unhappy life in the city where she feels trapped. This fits into Romanticism by including most of the
main features. It deals with human feelings and how Susan is sad. It includes memories and the use of
imagination. It also shows probably the most important feature, which is a love of nature. We see that
Susan feels truly happy surrounded by hills and pastures.
We also see this in Wordsworth s most famous and well known poem
Daffodils . Wordsworth thought of his poetry as originating in
emotion recollected in tranquillity . His memories were memories of strong feelings of happiness
brought about by something or some landscape connected to the nature.
In Daffodils , we again see all the features that make this poem fit into the tradition of Romanticism
and Romantic Poetry.
Wordsworth describes nature and says how beautiful it is and the beauty he sees when he looks at the
daffodils.
when all at once I saw a crowd, a host of golden daffodils .
He also uses his imagination to see the daffodils almost as human beings. He describes their

The Conquest Of America Summary
The writings of Tzvetan Todorov, The Conquest of America: The Question of the Other (1984) and
Inga Clendinnen, Fierce and Unnatural Cruelty: Cortes and the Conquest of Mexico (1991) each
address the Conquest of Mexico and how the Spaniards, though weak in numbers and on foreign land,
defeated the Amerindian military power in two years. The authors tend to disagree on why this
conquest was successful. Clendinnen takes on a different account in comparison to Todorov and uses
different kinds of sources such as, the Mexica accounts. Both Todorov and Clendinnen use evidence of
Cortes s letters but, Clendinnen uses information conveyed by eyewitnesses outside of the Spaniards.

The Mexica warriors were accustomed to a specific type of war and the Spanish strategies of ambush,
massacre, and battle ground killing were surprising and unthinkable, causing more unpredictability
regarding the nature of the Spaniards. Eventually, after constant battle the Mexicans submitted to their
fate, when that fate was manifest (Clendennin, 1991, pg 88) and the people left their ruined city. The
different understandings of war that the Mexica had in comparison to the Spaniards proved important
in the reasons the Mexica failed. She claims miscommunications occurred on both sides equally. Like
Todorov she attributes the inability of the natives in predicting Spanish behavior to the destruction of
Indian confidence (pg 74). The miscommunication, between customs of war and the Mexica accounts
show this struggle. Unlike in Todorov s article which depicted Cortes as destined to win and the

Since the crucifixion of Jesus (approximately 2,000 years ago), opponents of Christianity have directly
criticized the religion s foundation, attempting to discount the historicity of Christ s physical

learned that the Earth, universe and everything else was created in seven days, by God, as stated in the
Old Testament. It was not until recently with the rise of scientific reason and equal rights organizations
did these teachings become questioned. The argument spurs from each person s personal belief, and
that is where things get complicated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These principles include a basis in natural law, and science is guided by natural law. Science has to be
explanatory by referencing natural law, and scientific conclusions must lack finality. When they are
proven otherwise, they are open to alteration. In a science course, for something to be taught, as a
science, it must follow these guide lines, yet creationism does not. Creation Scientists will not adhere
themselves or their beliefs to these rules, and therefore creationism can not be taught as a science,
hence the name pseudoscience.
The next debate on why creationism should not be taught in schools is based on The First
Amendment. The First Amendment states that the government shall make no laws endorsing or
prohibiting any religious believe. Public schools are funded by the government. Requiring the Biblical
teachings of creationism to be taught in school promotes the Christian religion. According to the First
Amendment, a public organization that is funded by the government can not promote one religion
over another. For public schools to be able to comply with the First Amendment, they would have to
offer equal time to every religion s view on the creation of life on Earth, which would be impossible
and once again, turn a biology class into a theology class.
This idea was also approved by the US Supreme Court, in the 1987 case, Aguillard v. Edwards. In this
case, it was

Character Analysis Of The Godfather
The Godfather was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and was released in 1972. It starred Al Pacino
and Marlon Brando as the two main characters. This movie is one of the best films to grace the big
screen to this date. It has a very well executed plot as well. I like this movie a lot, portrays generally
unlikeable characters in a sympathetic light and by the end of the movie you are truly rooting for
them. I like that Coppola takes a very unlikeable subject and generally bad people and turns them into
people that you are rooting for and want them to generally succeed. The way Coppola does this is
through the way he develops the characters. The development of these mobsters throughout this movie
is fantastic. Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) is the epitome of this concept. At the beginning he is a
returning Veteran who wants nothing to do with the family crime business. By the end he has
transformed to a ruthless yet caring mob boss. He has a personal conflict that most people can relate
to. He is conflicted between pleasing his parents and pleasing himself. In the end he takes a hybrid
route choosing to be a caring yet ruthless mob boss; separating business and personal matters. Michael
may be the best example, but the whole Corleone family is very relatable. George Ebert would agree:
The movie (based on a script labored over for some time by Puzo and then finally given form, I
suspect, by director Francis Ford Coppola) gets the same feel. We tend to identify with Don Corleone
s family not because we dig gang wars, but because we have been with them from the beginning,
watching them wait for battle while sitting at the kitchen table and eating chow mein out of paper
cartons. (Ebert) The plot starts with Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) taking care of Mob business
during his daughter s wedding. During the wedding, Michael returns home from fighting in World War
2. After the wedding Don Vito is offered to be let in on the Narcotics Trade. Don Vito seeing this as
inhumane refuses the offer. This refusal causes an assassination attempt on Don Vito. While he is
being nursed back to health, his 3 sons (Sonny, Fredo, and Michael) try to take revenge on the
assassin. Unfortunately for them, they hit the wrong people

Jerome David Salinger And Modernism
Jerome David Salinger was an American writer who is mostly famous for writing The Catcher in the
Rye, which is one of the best books ever existed.. About 250.000 books are sold each year with a total
world wide sales over 10 million copies. He was mostly known for writing about kids and teenagers.
Salinger was a writer who influenced many writers and his unique writing style and life experience
made The Catcher in the Rye a great success. Jerome David Salinger was born in New York City on
January 1, 1919. His mother Miriam changed her religion after marrying Sol Salinger, J.D. s father,
and considered herself Jewish since then. As a kid, Jerome Salinger studied in public schools on the

Modernist literature appeared in the late 19th century, mostly in Europe and North America.
Modernism took place right after WWII and is classified by consciously trying to break away from
original styles of writing such as Romanticism and Realism and the other styles that appeared before
them. The modernist movement was driven by desire to talk about new things and express the true
feelings of the age the authors lived in. This was the reason why many modernists wrote about World
War. Modernism is one of the most important styles of writing because it brought a completely new
way of writing which allowed authors to write about anything including profanity. As mentioned
before, The Catcher in the Rye was one of the first modernism books which talked about sexuality and
profanity. Holden openly talks about his sexual relations, which caused a lot of controversy within the
readers. Because modernism was only beginning to develop, society had to get used to new things.
Modernist style of writing nearly doesn t focus on describing the surroundings. It focuses on character
s actions, character s perception of things, moods. In The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger nearly doesn t
focus on describing anything except the main characters. Salinger ties Holden to modernism as a
character who breaks all the rules and refuses being normal. If modernism was a character, it would

The Role Of Self-Interest In Shakespeare s Henry IV Part One
Shakespeare s Henry IV Part One presents a world of social and political change and bloody civil war
where in the struggle for power and ascendency many individuals are motivated by self
aggrandisement, seeking to better themselves and their reputations at the expense of others. Both the
King and his son Hal are opportunistic and self interested, employing self promotion and expediency.
Moreover, the desire for personal gain and power at others cost permeates all echelons of society,
fuelling the actions of both the nobility and those from the inns and taverns. Self interest motivates
nearly all, including those perceived as honourable and those who are known as disreputable.
However, whilst self interest and expediency are foregrounded in ... Show more content on

A pivotal individual in the world of the nobility, Worcester informs Hotspur of Henry s wrongful
acquisition of the throne, also admitting how the Percy family s own hands have helped to make
[Henry] so portly , when it suits his purposes. With Henry no longer favouring the Percy family,
Worcester is again willing to turn on his king, highlighting his fickle nature and willingness to support
those he believes will provide power and favours, denouncing those who do not. Further, Worcester
carefully manipulates his impulsive and imprudent nephew Hotspur, only revealing that King Henry is
an imposter to the throne once Hotspur is furious with Henry he calls him ingrate and cankered
Bullingbrook and thus using Hotspur s anger to his own advantage against Henry. On the eve of the
Battle of Shrewsbury, Worcester s actions again reveal complete self interest, convincing Vernon that
Hotspur must not know of Bullingbrook s offers of peace or single handed combat between Hal and
Hotspur, as he believes he will be undone if Hotspur accepts the king s offers of peace. Worcester s
lies to Hotspur cause the sacrifice of numerous men in battle including the valiant Hotspur. Worcester
himself understands his own self serving intentions, admitting before execution that what I have done
my safety urged me to . Self interest also pervades the lower echelons of society, which are filled with
thieves such as Poins. Caring only about his own financial benefit, Poins presents Falstaff and Hal
with a plan to rob pious individuals, emphasising that the pilgrims going to Canterbury have fat purses
, desiring monetary gain at the detriment of honest people. Such self interested behaviour is rife in the
seemingly lawless world of the taverns, powerfully seen in the two carriers at the Rochester Inn who
are evasive, refusing to lend

The City of Constantinople and Warfare of the Byzantine...
Constantinople was the newfound Christian capital of the eastern Roman Empire, otherwise known as
the Byzantine Empire. Throughout its long history, there have been many different attacks on the
religious capital city. Over a period of 1123 years, Constantinople was a solid city controlled by the
Byzantines apart some small upsets. Multiple attacks and sieges were attempted to overthrow the city,
however, most failed miserably. It wasn t until 1453 that the city finally fell to the Ottoman Empire.
Some victories of the Byzantines may have been caused by a weapon called Greek fire, believed to be
invented around the 650 s AD (Groller). The weapon was similar to today s weapon, napalm. Out of
the many sieges against Constantinople, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the new invention of Greek fire, the Byzantines had a relatively easy time winning the wars.
These two failed sieges stopped the expansion of the Arab Empire for more than 30 years. However, if
the Arabs won, it could have started a chain reaction causing the Byzantine Empire to dissolve and
jump start the Arab expansion into England 700 years early. The Byzantine Empire fought wars
differently then most at the time. Instead of using mass amounts of soldiers to overwhelm the enemy,
the Byzantines used strategy and intelligence gathering to find their enemies weaknesses and expose
them. The genius of Byzantine grand strategy was to turn the very multiplicity of enemies to
advantage, by employing diplomacy, deception, payoffs, and religious conversion to induce them to
fight one another instead of fighting the empire. ... In the Byzantine scheme of things, military
strength was subordinated to diplomacy instead of the other way around, and used mostly to contain,
punish, or intimidate rather than to attack or defend in full force. (Luttwak, 2009, p.415)
These strategies, not far off the ones used today, saved the Empire money and soldiers, a vital resource
to the Empire. In order to maintain the level of soldiers in their army, commanders were expected to
try and find a way to avoid open battles against the enemy s main attack force. They

KRONOS Book Review
An irrefutable quality of a strong leader is an unyielding desire to gain knowledge. Former President
John F. Kennedy himself stated that leadership and learning are indispensable to each other , which
can only further the argument of a necessity for a strong education system to develop a solid base
early in a student s life. Amelia Arcamone Makinano brings forth this debate and discussion in her
book KRONOS: All Devouring Federal Reserve , highlighting the profound implications of the
federal government s grip in the education system. In KRONOS , Amelia Arcamone Makinano wisely
asserts that illiteracy and the lack of education in American public schools has had indirect ties to the
state of the country s welfare and handling of the economy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Amelia Arcamone Makinano brings this issue to light in her extremely informative book KRONOS:
All Devouring Federal Reserve , where she speculates how this very problem has occurred for nearly
50 years in the United States. She juxtaposes many instances of great leadership and strong
educational reforms throughout moments in history, cementing her belief that the literacy of citizens
can be considerably beneficial to a country s success. Arcamone Makinano utilizes a structure of
example followed by analysis to further her arguments of the present day crisis of education, while
citing the main source of constant problems coming from the Federal Reserve Board, whose hold on
the education system has been depleting the strength of the American education system. Though a sign
of a good leader are the inclination to gain knowledge, the United States is losing its desire to gain
knowledge, which is resulting in an increase in illiteracy and a problem that will many future

The Fortunate Mistress Sparknotes
The introduction of the novel within the Restoration time period sparked a literary revolution
involving the ways in which readers and writers alike were able to experiment with the concept of
identity, and begin to examine the possibility of individuals functioning outside of their traditional
societal roles. One narrative in particular, Defoe s The Fortunate Mistress, works to challenge the
prevailing roles of women in society by considering the possibility of a woman that is able to be fully
disconnected from the standards of patriarchal society through the dominance of her finances, sexual
freedom, and overall independence from conventional roles. Since the publication of this novel, the
majority of literary critics have interpreted Daniel Defoe to be misogynist and anti feminist in nature
when taking into consideration how he depicts Roxana at the end of his story. In this manner, when
using the ending of the novel as the focal point in the narrative, the argument can be made that Defoe s
portrayal of Roxana as the female who attempted to go against the societal norms, and failed as a
result of her own vanity, was purposeful for demonstrating that if women rejected their marital roles,
they would be unsuccessful in their endeavors. On the contrary, critics who view the ending in such a
way have belittled the true importance of the narrative, and neglected to recognize the significance of
Roxana s mentality within the neoclassical time period. Roxana s thoughts and

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Personality Traits
Most personality theories share a common interest in traits. Theorists have become fascinated with
traits, as they essentially tell us what makes us, us. Perpetual features within us demonstrated by our
actions within everyday life. Trait theory aims to assess personality, whilst identifying and measuring
the extent of particular repetitive personality traits for example shyness and analysing how much these
traits vary from person to person. Trait theory is perhaps the most widely used perspective when it
comes to analysing personality and it vastly differs in comparison to other theoretical perspectives. In
order to test the validity of trait theories this essay will identify its key theories, focusing on how
personality traits are defined and measured. These will include Allport s central traits, Cattell s sixteen
personality factors, Eysenck s EPQ three dimensions and the big five. Unveiling the differences
between trait theories, looking at application of trait theory, whilst identifying its strengths and
weaknesses, as well as uncovering the personality paradox alternative perspective to trait theory in
order to test trait theories validity.
Allport was a dominant theorist during the early stages of personality analysis within the psychology
field, he searched through a dictionary, choosing from it over 4,000 words which can be used to define
personality. He then took this colossal amount and subdivided it into three key sections. As he
believed personality to

Divorce And Spousal Maintenance Essay
Divorce and spousal maintenance and parenting time and legal decision making and...so much more.
When the marriage ends, an entirely new set of rites, rituals, routines and definitions are suddenly left
on your doorstep. You can try to step over them and ignore them for as long as you can, but the easiest
way to deal with the mess is to figure it out so you can manage it gracefully.
We ve all heard of divorce and have a general idea what it means and entails. In Arizona, couples file
for a no fault divorce. In some ways, this makes obtaining a divorce easier. There is no required
separation period, etc. But there is still a process. For instance, if there are children involved, you ll
both be required to take a parenting class. Don t fight this. It s one of the new and exciting experiences
divorce brings with it that you can t avoid so you might as well embrace it. You ll also need to learn to
accept that your finances are an open book not only to your soon to be ex, but your attorney, their
attorney, the Judge and any other court employees involved in the process. If you didn t learn about
give and take during your marriage, you ll definitely be forced to learn about it during your divorce.

In the international context, the word progress relate to amendment in quality of life, including
improving standards of living in less developed countries. The aim of sustainable development is to
achieve this aim while safeguarding the ecological processes upon which life depends. Locally,
progressive businesses seek a positive treble under line, (a positive offering to the economic, social,

related to energy supplies. We may expect further changes to occur as renewable energy systems

  • 2. Nirvana Essay For this field trip we visited the exhibition called Shifting objectives held at M plus pavilion. The show introduces the history of twentieth and twenty first century design in Asia within a global framework. It was Indeed an eye opening experience to broaden our understanding over those iconic designs of different countries from pluralistic perspectives. In this report, I would like to compare two of the Japanese chair designs shown in the exhibition: Zaisu and Nirvana. First and foremost, Zaisu, which in Japanese means legless chair, is a modern design by the Japanese designer Kenmochi Isamu. It epitomizes the booming innovative design industry after post war period. The chair was made of rosewood veneering plywood. In terms of design ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It suffices to question those unnecessary ornamentations of postmodern design. But what is certain is that the latter blurs the line between art and design. It is reminiscent of the post modernism precursor Duchamp, whose iconic work Fountain stirs much controversy about the identity of an object. It casts interesting questions: are things what they perceptually appear to be? Why are things they are? Although both Zaisu and Nirvana each represents their own stylistic period, they still share a few things in common. In similarity, both designs feature sleek and inviting design that often appeared in Japanese style. They have minimalistic geometric shape, and the lines are rounded, rather than angular. The dark color of both also suggests solidarity and reliability. In reflection, both the modern and post modern designs inspire me in its own ways. The function and form of modern design creates the fundamentals of good design that permeates our daily lives. On the other hand, Nirvana reminds me of exceeding beyond boundary in design, giving new expression and liberating ourselves from what we know and see every day. It inspires me to view a good design not just based on its functionality, but also on aspects beyond. The same applies to my work because I now have learnt a good artist and designer should keep finding new approaches to create their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theme Of Prejudice In 12 Angry Men Back in 1957 MGM released a film directed by Sidney Lumet that is considered a masterpiece today same as it was back then. There is a very good reason for that, this film has aged very well. It deals with the same topics we have to deal with in today s society. Today it seems people are just as divided as they were in the 50 s. That is what 12 Angry Men does so well, it handles the topic of prejudice. How does it show this? 12 Angry Men shows us different jurors with different prejudices that are revealed through their attitudes, beliefs, and words. It is easy to spot prejudice through attitude because of the way they act around or talking about the person or a community they have a prejudice about. Prejudice is an unjustified or incorrect attitude (usually negative) towards an individual based solely on the individual s membership of a social group (McLeod 1). In the film almost, everyone is ready to sentence an eighteen year old boy to death for murder. Most do this just because of the evidence, but jurors three and ten have different attitudes about the situation. Juror three has a different attitude because of his son and the relationship he created there. He abused his son and now he has left him, the guilt he has is more than apparent through his anger. Juror ten also shows anger and it is not apparent as to why until later when he starts speaking. The beliefs of the individual characters can say a lot about them because it reinforces their prejudices. Juror ten ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Redemption In the Bible there is a story about a cruel and hateful man named Saul. He would track down and kill anyone belonging to the then new Christian faith, and he hated anything to do with Jesus. He would put both men and women into prison, and he was responsible for approving the stoning of one of the seven disciples told to go out and tell people about Jesus, Stephen. And he is probably one of the most classic examples of redemption known to Western Christian civilization. To put his long story concisely, he was traveling to Damascus and then Jesus approached him from heaven, blinding him with light and telling him he needed to do what Jesus said. Blind and helpless, he didn t eat or drink anything for three days, and then Jesus sent a man named Ananias who was actually very much afraid of Saul to heal his blindness, because God had chosen him to be a disciple. When Saul was healed, he turned away from his genocidal ways, and eventually became known as Paul, a messenger of the Good News of Christ and the main writer of a chunk of the New Testament of the Bible. This Saul to Paul effect, while one of the earlier examples of redemption from evil acts, has certainly not been the last. Redemption has always been a controversial topic, particularly if one s crimes are numerous and/or horrific part of the reason the death penalty is so often debated in America for its morality. But what people have really never agreed on is where the breaking point is of what can be forgiven and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Growing up I never thought that being a chef at a restaurant in the casino was the profession I would have, but here I am. I started with an interest in art, then acting and poetry when I was younger, then food became my fascination and cooking became my passion. I find it enjoyable being able to cook for people and provide them with a sense of satisfaction. The power to heal others and to offer myself immortality. Not only is it a risk factor for other chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, but it also has a significant impact on a person s long term health and wellness. Research has identified health coaching as an effective intervention for decreasing obesity in adults. Health coaching is client oriented and works to establish behavior changes in order to improve the quality of a person s life (Kivela et al., 2014). This paper will describe the purpose/need of health coaching, effective techniques involved in the coaching process, and its impact on adults with obesity. It will also identify how the effectiveness of health coaching on obesity will impact the author s coaching business, methods of practice, and the author personally. According to Wong Rieger Rieger (2013), the addition of health coaching is significantly more effective than health education alone. Health coaching involves motivating clients to identify and achieve goals that can help them to improve their health and quality of life (Kivela et al., 2014). Health coaches help clients to identify and overcome obstacles that affect their ability to make positive health choices (Kivela et al., 2014). Health coaches are not experts, but rather they work together with their clients to set goals, problem solve and hold the client accountable for their actions (Wong Rieger Rieger, 2013). Because of the significant increase of obesity in the United States, researchers believe that behavioral factors play more of a vital role than biological factors in the development of obesity (Newnham Kanas, Irwin, Morrow Battram, 2011). This is why an effective health coaching approach combines several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Joy Luck Club Narrative Style In The Joy Luck Club, Tan has purposely externalized the eight characters mental world by allowing each of them to tell her own story in a deceptively simple manner, thus allowing the reader to plunge into the mind of the characters. The motives, desires, pains, pleasures, and concerns of the characters are thereby effectively dramatized. This particular writing strategy allows Tan to transcend the conventional novelistic dichotomy of preferred showing and undesirable telling. The stories thus tell us a great deal about individual characters, their reaction to each other, and their activities together. The Joy Luck Club is a bridge uniting both space and time. It connects the sixteen intricately interlocking stories and helps to reveal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ruth who is the ghost writer, major character, starts to amend her life by initiating a unique creative writing, with all immaculate insight that she has attained about herself. In other words, by looking back and by the power of recalling past memories, Ruth has obtained a new vision of future; as she writes the story of her mother and her grandmother, she reveals her vision, in the closing words of the novel, They write about what happened, why it happened, how they can make other things happen. They write stories of things that are but should not have been. They write about what could have been, what still might be. They write of a past that can be changed. Ruth discovers the answer to her philosophical questions about life. Interestingly, this insight belongs to a feminine sphere and its instructors are all women who share their memories with their daughters, to protect them from hazards of life. Historically, businesses and professionals know that licensing requirements and authority belongs solely to states and local governments. A state government does not violate the commerce clause when it sets licensing requirements for incineration and interment of fetal tissues pursuant to its autonomy and police powers in carrying out local activities that has always been its traditional functions to ensure the health and safety of its citizens. A state or local authority does not necessarily violate the commerce clause when having created a market through a state funded program requires out of staters to pay a minimal percentage as their fair share to participate in the program. McBurney v. Young, 133 S. Ct. 1709 (2013). While this requirement might seem protectionist in a loose sense, it simply reflects the fundamental function of a state government to maintain an even handed and fair access to state services for the benefit of all residents. The fee in question is to be applied to an activity with a substantial nexus with Eastland, it is minimal and fairly apportioned, and it is nondiscriminatory. Furthermore, there is an undeniable rational relationship between the fee and the activity covered. Trinova Corp. v. Mich. Dep t of Treasury, 498 U.S. 358 (1991). The citizens of Eastland has already paid their fair quota through the state tax, which out of staters did not pay. It is only fair that they contribute their fair share to benefit from the program. In the operant conditioning, an association is made between a behavior and a consequence for that behavior (Cherry 1).This theory was made by B.F. Skinner known as Skinnerian. As a behaviorist, Skinner believed that it was not really necessary to look at internal thoughts and motivations in order to explain behavior. Instead, he suggested, we should look only at the external, observable causes of human behavior (Cherry 1). The next process of Operant Conditioning is generalization which means tendency to make the learned response to a stimulus similar to that for which the response was originally reinforced (Chapter 5 Power Point ).According to the text, a great example by describing the less similar the color the pigeon saw the less it picked. The last process of Operating Condition is Discriminative Stimuli which means a stimulus that signals whether a response or behavior will be rewarded, punished or even ignore. When dealing with behavior you ll always have a punishment for a behavior. When acquired through Operant Condition there are two types of punishments Positive and Negative punishment. Positive punishment involves the presentation of an unfavorable event or outcome in order to weaken the response it follows. Negative punishment occurs when a favorable event or outcome is removed after a behavior occurs. In both Positive or Negative punishment deals with decreasing of the behaviors. There is also a disadvantage from punishment is that a person may become very angry, fearful and hostile towards the punisher. It dealt with nature, human imagination, childhood and the ability to recall emotional memories of both happiness and sadness. Before Wordsworth began writing his revolutionary new style of poetry, all preceding poetry had a very different style. The reason these poems were classed as revolutionary was because he believed that romantic poetry should describe incidents of common life and ordinary people and were written in deliberately plain words. It was what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This fits into Romanticism by including most of the main features. It deals with human feelings and how Susan is sad. It includes memories and the use of imagination. It also shows probably the most important feature, which is a love of nature. We see that Susan feels truly happy surrounded by hills and pastures. We also see this in Wordsworth s most famous and well known poem Daffodils . Wordsworth thought of his poetry as originating in emotion recollected in tranquillity . His memories were memories of strong feelings of happiness brought about by something or some landscape connected to the nature. In Daffodils , we again see all the features that make this poem fit into the tradition of Romanticism and Romantic Poetry. Wordsworth describes nature and says how beautiful it is and the beauty he sees when he looks at the daffodils. when all at once I saw a crowd, a host of golden daffodils . He also uses his imagination to see the daffodils almost as human beings. He describes their movements as, and compares

The authors tend to disagree on why this conquest was successful. Clendinnen takes on a different account in comparison to Todorov and uses different kinds of sources such as, the Mexica accounts. The different understandings of war that the Mexica had in comparison to the Spaniards proved important in the reasons the Mexica failed. She claims miscommunications occurred on both sides equally. • 23. Creationism and Public Schools Essay example Creationism and Public Schools The issue of whether creationism should be taught in public schools, rather than evolution, is a new one. It has only been in the past fifty years that it has even been in debate. Public school science classes, when discussing the origins of life on Earth, coincided with Sunday school classes. Students learned that the Earth, universe and everything else was created in seven days, by God, as stated in the Old Testament. It was not until recently with the rise of scientific reason and equal rights organizations did these teachings become questioned. The argument spurs from each person s personal belief, and that is where things get complicated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These principles include a basis in natural law, and science is guided by natural law. Science has to be explanatory by referencing natural law, and scientific conclusions must lack finality. When they are proven otherwise, they are open to alteration. In a science course, for something to be taught, as a science, it must follow these guide lines, yet creationism does not. Creation Scientists will not adhere themselves or their beliefs to these rules, and therefore creationism can not be taught as a science, hence the name pseudoscience. The next debate on why creationism should not be taught in schools is based on The First Amendment. The First Amendment states that the government shall make no laws endorsing or prohibiting any religious believe. Public schools are funded by the government. Requiring the Biblical teachings of creationism to be taught in school promotes the Christian religion. According to the First Amendment, a public organization that is funded by the government can not promote one religion over another. For public schools to be able to comply with the First Amendment, they would have to offer equal time to every religion s view on the creation of life on Earth, which would be impossible and once again, turn a biology class into a theology class. • 24. Character Analysis Of The Godfather The Godfather was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and was released in 1972. It starred Al Pacino and Marlon Brando as the two main characters. This movie is one of the best films to grace the big screen to this date. It has a very well executed plot as well. I like this movie a lot, portrays generally unlikeable characters in a sympathetic light and by the end of the movie you are truly rooting for them. I like that Coppola takes a very unlikeable subject and generally bad people and turns them into people that you are rooting for and want them to generally succeed. The way Coppola does this is through the way he develops the characters. The development of these mobsters throughout this movie is fantastic. Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) is the epitome of this concept. At the beginning he is a returning Veteran who wants nothing to do with the family crime business. By the end he has transformed to a ruthless yet caring mob boss. He has a personal conflict that most people can relate to. He is conflicted between pleasing his parents and pleasing himself. In the end he takes a hybrid route choosing to be a caring yet ruthless mob boss; separating business and personal matters. Michael may be the best example, but the whole Corleone family is very relatable. George Ebert would agree: The movie (based on a script labored over for some time by Puzo and then finally given form, I suspect, by director Francis Ford Coppola) gets the same feel. We tend to identify with Don Corleone s family not because we dig gang wars, but because we have been with them from the beginning, watching them wait for battle while sitting at the kitchen table and eating chow mein out of paper cartons. (Ebert) The plot starts with Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) taking care of Mob business during his daughter s wedding. During the wedding, Michael returns home from fighting in World War 2. After the wedding Don Vito is offered to be let in on the Narcotics Trade. Don Vito seeing this as inhumane refuses the offer. This refusal causes an assassination attempt on Don Vito. The Byzantine Empire fought wars differently then most at the time. Instead of using mass amounts of soldiers to overwhelm the enemy, the Byzantines used strategy and intelligence gathering to find their enemies weaknesses and expose them. The genius of Byzantine grand strategy was to turn the very multiplicity of enemies to advantage, by employing diplomacy, deception, payoffs, and religious conversion to induce them to fight one another instead of fighting the empire. ... The Fortunate Mistress Sparknotes The introduction of the novel within the Restoration time period sparked a literary revolution involving the ways in which readers and writers alike were able to experiment with the concept of identity, and begin to examine the possibility of individuals functioning outside of their traditional societal roles. One narrative in particular, Defoe s The Fortunate Mistress, works to challenge the prevailing roles of women in society by considering the possibility of a woman that is able to be fully disconnected from the standards of patriarchal society through the dominance of her finances, sexual freedom, and overall independence from conventional roles. Since the publication of this novel, the majority of literary critics have interpreted Daniel Defoe to be misogynist and anti feminist in nature when taking into consideration how he depicts Roxana at the end of his story. In this manner, when using the ending of the novel as the focal point in the narrative, the argument can be made that Defoe s portrayal of Roxana as the female who attempted to go against the societal norms, and failed as a result of her own vanity, was purposeful for demonstrating that if women rejected their marital roles, they would be unsuccessful in their endeavors. On the contrary, critics who view the ending in such a way have belittled the true importance of the narrative, and neglected to recognize the significance of Roxana s mentality within the neoclassical time period.
