Organizations Should Make Appropriate And Reasonable...
Furthermore, organizations should make appropriate and reasonable adjustments for physically and
mentally disabled employees, so that they can overcome from the impairment disadvantages.
Organisations are required to protect their employees from both direct and indirect discrimination
against disability. Managers should be notified about such protective measures and company policy
should be very transparent in nature. A quick action team is needed to check if an employee is
discriminated. A very clear and legitimate explanation should be given when eligibility for a
particular job position is decided.
Equality Act permits organisations for taking a positive action if employees who face disadvantages
due to some protected characteristic. Organisations should take positive step and safeguard the best
interests of their employees. Employers should clearly decide the selection criteria for their
particular jobs. Organisations should also not prefer disabled or any candidates, who is suffering
disadvantages because of one or more protected characteristics, over the other equally or more
qualified candidates. If they do so, it will be discrimination to the other candidates. Organisations
should always consider merit and abilities of the candidates regardless of protected characteristics.
Requirement of good policy making and managerial training
Making and implementing a good employment and employee welfare policy is essential for any
organisation. Employees are considered as

Castlerigg Stone Circle Essay
(–– removed HTML ––) Considered to be the most atmospheric by popular consensus, the
Castlerigg Stone Circle, is a structured placement of stones near Keswick in Cumbria, North West
England. Not quite as famous as (–– removed HTML ––) Stonehenge (–– removed HTML ––) , the
Castlerigg Stone Circle is one of the oldest out of 1,300 stone circles spread about within the British
Isles. Also known as Keswick Carle, or Druid's Circle, this Megalithic construction was built around
the Neolithic era around 3,000 BC and consists of 38 stones of diverse heights situated in an oval
shape. The largest stone sits at over 8 feet tall, but the rest of the stones are less than 5 feet in height.
A few of the stones have since collapsed, however the site is in unusually fine condition. (––

Within the stone circle at its core, lies a rectangle of ten smaller stones in an arrangement which has
been labeled "The Cave". A modest mound sits in the center, which has been theorized to be a burial
chamber. Although, the site has never been fullly excavated, there seems to have been only charcoal
desposits which have ever been uncovered. (–– removed HTML ––) (–– removed HTML ––)
Similar to Stonehenge, the Castlerigg Stone Circles has a solar alignment, and seems to have been
used for solstice celebrations. Several stones in the circle have been found to align with the
midwinter sunrise and various lunar positions. These qualities make this stone circle suitable to have
been used as an astronomical observatory. However, a popular local legend states that the stones
were never meant to be built to a specific design, but that men had turned into the stones for fear of
a local monster lurking about. (–– removed HTML

Explain Why Women Are More Religious Than Men
Explain why women are more religious than men?
Keywords  religious = women than Men
Introduction
Miller and Hoffman (1995) stated that women are more religious than men in terms of attendance,
expression to faith and their view of God:
1) Attendance – high church–goer among women particularly Church
2) View of God – men see God as love/ comfort/ forgiveness  linked the women's nurturing side/
traditional expressive role. Whereas men see God as power/ planning/ control.
Statistical Data from US and UK were used to show that women are more religious than men:
In the UK, O'Beirne (2004) – for traditional religions (Church and Denomination) across UK region
 women 83% whereas men only 74%.
In US, Pew Research Centre (2009) – 86% women claimed religious affiliation and only 79% men
claimed religious affiliation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women in the gender stereotyped role is more expressive and nurturing for examples their role as a
mother, expectation to take care of elderly/ disabled. Moreover, female are socialized into
submissive/passive/obedient/nurturing which are compatible with religiosity (Miller & Hoffman)
Greeley (1992) – women's nurturing skills are required by the religion. Since women have those
skills, they translate these skills into religious believing. For example, Christianity attracts more
women as women see the concept of love and care offered by the religion which attracts more non–
working class women who primarily roles  mainly on childcare (Steggerda, 1993)
Modood et al (1997) found that muslim women see religion as very important.

Comparing Constabularies
The City of London and the Lancashire constabularies' route to community policing and equality
and diversity can be seen just by looking at the recruitment of the officers they have. However, there
is a scope for ethnic minorities and gender officers. Out of 43 forces London had the lowest
proportion of 22.5% of female officers compared to Cumbria which had the largest proportion of
35.4%. From this methodology alone, it demonstrates that both constabularies perceive the assorted
qualities inside of the zones which they cover. The likenesses between both constabularies and how
they go about community policing are comparable in a few viewpoints, particularly concerning the
size distinction between what they both spread.
Both hold gatherings in the middle of their constabularies and the community, both have
comparative points in their way of dealing with community policing and both take a major

These are all approaches with differences to help with enlisting minorities from diverse
communities. The enlisting of officers from distinctive strands of different communities serves to
advance community policing; this is a result of the vicinity of a minority officer going into a
community that has for the most part the same ethnicity as the officers, in this manner the
community will put more trust in the police. By far the Lancashire constabulary constantly has been
the best police force in the country by diversity, focusing on community policing and putting the
public first by protecting. That is reason the Lancashire constabulary was nominated for a National
Diversity Award for dealing with serious issues like hate crimes, crimes related to gender, religion,
ethnicity, sexual orientation or disability (Lancashire constabulary,

Where to Build a Wind Farm? – Geography Assessment
In my opinion, the best place to build a wind farm in Cumbria is off the shore of Allonby. This is
because; it has a lot of advantages which suit it, for being the best place to build a wind farm; as of
its location and ingenious ideology behind it. Moreover, it is an offshore wind farm, which means
that it will benefit a lot of homes, as at the sea it is extremely windy. Thus, a lot of electricity is
generated, providing a lot of electricity than usual. However, some people would say that, because it
is near a town, it'll be very noisy and distracting to tourists and residents, and will even be an
'eyesore.' On the contrary, the wind farm will be 3 metres away from the land, so there is the least
possibility of noise pollution and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it has marshland, and a wind farm cannot be built as of its instability and it is close to a
city (Carlisle) which means that, it can possibly disturb tourism activity or increase it, and create
noise problems. Also, it would obstruct birds, ecosystems and plants. Besides, Anthorn was on the
coast and had some roads, so cars can get through for maintenance, however it had some radio masts
and it would interfere with radio signals and be an additional 'eyesore.' Moreover, Skiddaw could've
had the winning chance, but some factors limited it. It had high ground and plenty of spaces, as
there were essentially no buildings and it would not affect anyone in terms of noise, as it was on a
high mountain. However, it is part of the Lake District and the famous town Bassenthwaite is next to
it; and it can be very unattractive. However, as it being closer to a town, it can provide jobs. Albeit,
it cannot be accessible to any transport, as it will be high on a mountain; but a helicopter can be the
solution. However, the problem cannot be sorted out as thorough.
Wind energy is an excellent alternative energy source, as it doesn't harm the environment – it just
uses wind to drive the turbines, which spin around to drive the generator to generate electricity. As
for crude oil and fossil fuels, they are running out and also harm the environment. However, this
clean energy can very easily be generated. UK has a lot of wind energy up in its highlands, so is
ideal for

As The Advent Of The Eighteenth Century Had Came Into...
As the advent of the eighteenth century had came into reality, profound developments in the realm
of the arts began to take hold. Romanticism, as the era was known, shifted the focus from rational
viewpoints to a feel of expressing "...freedom and revolution in their art and politics" (Poets). In
effect, individuality began to take root in writing, an ideal not employed during the reign of
Classicalism. William Wordsworth, one of the numerous promulgators of this era, had set the stage,
writing over the complexity and nature of the world around him. One the most notable poems of
Wordsworth are "London, 1802", which describes the decadence of Great Britain from his point of
view, with notable focuses on its meaning and structure; Wordsworth ... Show more content on

As a matter of personal opinion, this poem seems peculiar with its prophetic undertones. To explain,
a social divide like the one that is depicted by Wordsworth has been taking place in the United
Kingdom. "Brexit", a referendum to leave the European Union that passed during the summer of
2016, mimics the nationalistic fervor that is exhibited in the poem, especially in phrasing such as
"...raise us up, return to us again..." (Meyer 703). In addition, one can infer that since older
generations of voters swayed the decision, they too have a longing for a revived golden age, much
like the plea that Wordsworth has towards the likes of John Milton, who was before Wordsworth
time. Of course, this notable poem could not only be directed to the United Kingdom, but across the
world as well. Across the many systems of governments, an ideological shift towards the right on
the political spectrum has offered growth in terms of their own nation being the first of concern, and
the rest of the world second. Such a shift tries to revive the golden age that Wordsworth has longed
desired. In essence, the poem exhibits a striking resemblance to the world's current ideological shift.
William Wordsworth, living from 1770–1850, was renowned in his establishment of Romanticism,
with most of his works being shaped by his experiences. Having commenced his education at
Hawkshead Grammar School in 1779, he found his love for poetry while discovering how to express
his delight

Watson And The Veganism Movement
There are so many different kinds of diets in this day in age. Lots of people diet because of health,
religion, or just want too. One specific diet/movement is Veganism. Veganism movement/diet that
started in November 1994 by Donald Watson. Its when someone eat no animal product and
byproduct. Some people go to the extent to not even wear any animal product as well. It is very well
practiced today.
The way Veganism got started was by Donald Watson. According from the website "Food for Life".
Donald Watson was born on September 9, 1910 in South Yorkshire, United Kingdom. But sadly he
died on November 11, 2005 in Cumbria, United Kingdom. Also according to vegan society website.

Some reasons are health goals, environmental, and the ethical rights for animals. The environment

affect climate change, water production, and land degradation is because of these livestock farms.
Some of the ethical reasons help make giant organization like Peta to fight for the ethical rights. Peta
makes giant campaign ads for their cause to try to get people to know Veganism. Some companies
like Lush help fight the ethical rights also by making most of their products vegan and not to test
their products on the animals.
The procedures that people take of being vegan are not eating any animal product or byproduct.
There diet are fruits, vegetables, grains, and protein alternatives. Some don't wear any clothing made
out any animal. Like leather, wool, and any animal skin. Also back when it first began there were no
like vegan food. But now there is like most can get turned into vegan products like cheese, ice
cream, milk, cookies, and lots more. Except the down side to that is there more expensive but not by
that much. Some people go to extent by participating in the vegan campaigns for organizations like

Persuasive Essay On Free Schools
The UK Government has recently announced that 102 prospective free schools have been given the
go–ahead for 2013. It displays an increase in the adoption of this particular government initiative
and so it is perhaps an appropriate time to look at what this means for the landscape of the English
schools system.
Now in its third year, the initiative is certainly becoming more popular. The approval system had
given permission to 65 schools last year, of which 50 will open this September (2012). The first
batch of pioneers in September 2011, however, only consisted of 24.

contrast to private individuals attempting to form organisations themselves from scratch.

The largest concentration of schools will be in London (34, 1 in 3), followed by the South East and
North West. Although one of their aims is to improve the education possibilities in particularly
deprived areas, the North East only has 3 opening despite its higher than average levels of depravity.
Interestingly there are pockets of the country where there are no new free schools opening at all
such as in: the southern counties of Wilts, Dorset, Somerset & Hampshire (including the Isle of
Wight); the central midlands (around Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire etc); South
Yorkshire down into Derbyshire; North Yorkshire across into

Summary Of Child's First Tales Annotation
Child's First Tales Annotation: Obviously from the title of this book, this excerpt is intended for
children; for that reason, the text is exceedingly easy to read and understand. In fact, the first thing I
noticed about this particular excerpt is the simplistic sentence structure and elementary word choice.
Since the intended audience is young children, the short sentences and uncomplicated words reflect
that. The author, William Carus Wilson, knew that kids have a very little attention span, so he made
each sentence brief and to the point. And his consideration of children's limited vocabulary made
him use simple words like good or bad to describe objects. Another thing I picked up on in my
annotations, is that the author uses underlying rhetoric techniques to influence the way kids think.
He attempts to convince audience justified racism through nationalism, ... Show more content on

Nationalism was applied by promoting the English culture, and implying through this that other
cultures were lesser than of the correct English way. For example, Wilson writes "good men went
from our land teach [Africans] what is right", which is a nationalistic view. Briefly said, religion is
utilized as a powerful to put down Africans because they worshipped gods of "wood and stone" and
not the God who was popular in England. Lastly, the selective word choice was a rhetorical choice
to persuade the readers to think a certain way about Africans. By this I mean, that the words black
folk, black people, black boys, etc. were rarely seen without the word "poor". The author is trying to
sway the reader to automatically think "poor" whenever the word "black" is uttered. Wilson wants to
have the audience to look upon the

River Tees Drainage Baisin Essay
River Tees Drainage Baisin
The river Tees flows from the Pennines in Cumbria, northwest England, to the North Sea via Tees
Bay. Its length is 130 km / 80 miles. Its port, Teesport, handles in excess of 42 million tonnes of
water per year. Its main tributaries are the Lune, Balder, and Greta. There are many factors affecting
the drainage baiins of the River Tees, many of these are human factors.
Water Barrage and Watersports: Much of the water nearing the sea is polluted with industrial waste,
sewage, and chemicals. The Tees Barrage, which opened in 1995, enables a 16 km / 10 mile stretch
of the river to provide clean, non–tidal water. The barrage was built to improve the river's
watersports ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are several reservoirs in the river basin used to store water to be used for later use. The
reservoirs also helps in flood control. Water levels can rise very quickly following a rain storm.
Storing water in the reservoir reduces flooding in the lower course.
Farming and Irigation Water: A major land uses in the upper Tees is rough grazing for sheep. The
land is too steep to use machinery, the growing season too short and the soils too thin and acidic For
growing crops and so not much water is needed for irigation in comparison to the River Severn.
Only where the land is less steep is the pasture improved by fertilizers, the occasional crop is grown,
requiring some irigation water from the Tees.
Hydro Electric power: There are no power plants along the Tees.
There are also many natural factors affecting the hydrology of the River Tees drainage basin, these
include:
Geology: There is a succession of falls, where the river traverses a hard series of black basaltic
rocks, the water flows fast her due to the steep down slope, the impermiable smooth rocks also
allow fast flow and no infiltration, and so at times of heavy percipitation the water level at these
points in the river will rise sharply and the power and speed of the river will increase. At flatter areas
of these basaltic rocks the river can flood easily.

Explain Why William Became Involved in Wales in the Years...
June 2010 optional question 3 Explain why William became involved in Wales in the years 1066 to
1087 (12) Plan * Wanted to assert his authority over them * Had to keep Wales at bay because the
border kept shifting * Rebels that went against William went to Wales for safety The main reason
that William became involved in Wales shortly after he had taken England was because he would
have seen the Welsh as a threat. Along with many other countries, they would have known that the
situation in England was unstable and William may have thought Wales were planning an invasion.
To assert his authority over Wales, he led a campaign into their country in 1066 and an even larger

Also, Scotland could provide refuge for anyone that had rebelled against William (including Edgar)
which would have furthered the tensions. The disputes of land had also caused problems for
William. Lands such as Cumbria and Northumbria were disputed between Malcolm and William.
This became worrying for William because parts of his kingdom were being threatened to be taken
from him which would give Malcolm more land and support against William. However, the threat of
Scotland was not as substantial as some historians make it out to be. In 1072, William marched
through Scotland with relative ease. Although Williams army was "fearfully exposed" according to
Purser, the Scottish did not capitalize on this opportunity. This could be interpreted as Malcolm
showing he did not want to fight against William. This point links into the treaty of Abernethy. In
the same year Malcolm met William at abernethy and signed a treaty which shown that he
recognised William as his superior. According to purser, in "good faith", Malcolm kicked Edgar out
of his court which would have made further rebellions in the north very difficult. Overall, Scotland
was initially a threat around the time of the Northern rebellion however the treaty of Abernathy
played a main factor in extinguishing the threat of the

The Effects Of Domestic Violence On Children
Introduction.
Domestic violence is a type of abuse which usually occurs between two people who are in a
relationship. There are many types of domestic abuse, not all of which are physical. The types of
abuse suffered by somebody living in a violent relationship could be emotional, physical, sexual,
financial or psychological. Domestic abuse can occur during and after a relationship. Especially if
there is a connection between the two people within the relationship for example children. For many
years domestic violence was seen as something which happened to women only. This is now
understood not to be the case as many men suffer domestic violence within relationships.
The effects on children living within violent, volatile households is a concern for professionals
involved with children. It is now recognised as a form of abuse and any child which is seen to be
living in a dangerous household may be removed for their own safety and emotional well–being.
This can although be hard for professionals to prove as people living in violent relationships often
hide the fact they are being abused and almost protect the offender. Educational settings working
with children are trained to safeguard children within their care although the quality of this training
throughout the country is questionable and improvements may need to be implemented to ensure
children and the victims of domestic violence are being protected and the offenders of this crime are
brought to justice.

Strategy and Eden Bay
Please read the TOWN of EDEN BAY case study on pages 91–92 of your textbook and answer the 4
questions listed at the end of page 92. Make sure to properly justify your answers.
1. Upon investigation, you learn that the town does not have a strategic plan or mission statement. in
your view, does this affect the current situation? Why or why not?
* In my point of view, I think yes without a strategic plan this might affect their current situation;
because having a spreadsheet this make their work more difficult for them. Having a strategic plan is
very important because it helps them to provide direction and focus for all employees. Also, to have

Question 3, Refer to the general steps of preliminary investigation (listed in figure 2–17, page 72)
and the discussion that follows.)
One of the first steps involved in carrying out a preliminary investigation include understanding the
problem or opportunity in sight. The analyst must first identify which department, users and
business processes the system request is involved in to evaluate and assess the causes and effects
related in the proposed system. Defining the project scope and constraints is the second step. With
clear indications of the projects boundaries or extent the project scope is determined, while the
requirements or conditions the system must confer to or achieve determine the projects constraints.
The third step in a preliminary investigation consists of fact finding techniques, that involve the
analyses of charts, interviews with users, managers and review of documents , observing operations
and finally user surveys. Followed by the fourth step that includes the process of evaluating
feasibility. This step consists of evaluating the feasibility of the proposed projects operational,

The Divided Land Summary
The Divided Land Epilogue Lytharón, an ancient land at the edge of the Great Sea, is rich in history
and yet so very young. Lytharón is separated into five factions. In the west, by the sea, are the
Democian people, a strong nation that has proven itself in numerous wars. Democia is the largest of
the five factions, and was founded when their ancestors came from across the Great Sea. Their
territory extends from the western shore, including control over the Sea Isles off the west coast, to
the winding river across the plains. This river runs from the northern mountains straight down the
middle of Lytharón, before the Pondürian Mountains force it to cut southeast. The river continues on
this new course before eventually disappearing underneath ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Gun Control Does Not Reduce Crime Essay
In the United States there are many issues under hot debate. Some people are so set in their belief on
a subject that they won't even consider an opposing argument. Gun control is third on the list of
subjects in which people are not willing to listen to the opposition's argument. One side of the gun
control argument is that we need more gun control. The opposing side says we don't need stronger
laws, or we need fewer laws. My stand on the argument is that we do not need stronger gun control
laws. The thesis of this paper will focus on the argument against tougher gun laws. The anti thesis
will focus on the opposition's belief that there should be stronger gun control laws. Finally, the
synthesis will focus on refuting the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further, despite the fact that gun ownership in the U.S. increased enormously during the 1990's,
there was a consistent, dramatic reduction of criminal violence. In fact, homicide and violent crime
have plunged over the last 15 years. Considering that 18 of 25 countries surveyed had an increase of
violent crime, America's large decline is impressive. Moreover, Norway, Finland, Germany, France,
and Denmark also have a high rate of private gun ownership, and the murder rates in these countries
are as low as or lower than developed nations with less gun ownership (Kates & Mauser, 2007).
Additionally, in states that have laws permitting concealed weapons for those who qualify, there has
been a measurable reduction in violent crimes and murder. There are forty states that allow those
who have permits to carry a handgun. Consequently, there are approximately 3.5 million U.S.
citizens that are permitted to have a concealed weapon on their person, or in their car (Kates &
Mauser, 2007). John Lott and David Mustard conducted a study on the concealed handguns law.
They analyzed FBI crime statistics for the entire United States, covering the years from 1977 to
1992. With conservative approximations, states enacting the concealed weapons law had a reduction
in rape by 5%, robbery by 3%, aggravated assault by 7%, and murder by 8.5% (Lott, n.d.).

Persuasive Essay On Childhood Obesity
Take a look around next time you go to the stores, take a look around next time you go anywhere.
What you will see is something that has become very common in children and this condition effects
over one third of children in the UK. It can put children on their death bed and take away their
childhood. The topic I am speaking about is childhood obesity and how parents are responsible for
this.
Is it the children's fault that their parents feed them adult sized meals? That parents don't know how
to say no without feeling guilty? That McDonalds is a quick, convenient, no cook meal? Is it the
children's fault that roads are built for cars and not bikes? Is it the children's fault that one in five
children have a TV in their room? That on average children are spending 7.5 hours a day on
electronic devices? Is it the children's fault that fields take less priority than parking lots? Is it their
fault that worldwide 34 children are dying every hour from obesity? No, no it is not. All of these
adult made decisions are resulting in children being more likely to have risk factors for
cardiovascular disease, such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure. Social services are now
removing obese children from families that overfeed them, from the fear of their health. The first
reported case took place in 2007 when an eight–year–old girl from Cumbria, who had to wear size

Ecologies along route ways form in local scale ecosystems due to the influences of human activities

Deep Geological Disposal : A Hydrogeological Assessment Of...
Deep geological disposal: A hydrogeological assessment of the Sellafield and Yucca Mountain
repositories The disposal of high level radioactive waste (HLW) is a contentious issue that can have
major environmental consequences. As such, the treatment of such waste is governed by strict
guidelines and protocols. Deep geologic burial is often a solution that appears to satisfy
requirements for safe disposal. Sites chosen as candidates for deep burial must keep the waste
separate from the biosphere for at least 10,000 years. Infiltration of groundwater into a repository
can greatly reduce the time taken for waste to appear at the surface, therefore careful consideration
of past, present and future conditions is of great importance. This essay ... Show more content on

Abstract
Aim: To compare the prescribing quality of ophthalmic and non–ophthalmic prescriptions for
patients admitted into hospital wards.
Methods: All patients admitted to an acute hospital in the North West of England with ocular
diagnoses requiring regular long term eye drops were identified. The first patient cohort comprised
those patients admitted between August 1st and December 31st 2014; following staff education on
ocular medication, the study was repeated for those patients admitted between August 1st and
September 30th 2015. Inpatient drug charts were analysed retrospectively to assess the quality of
prescribing. Comparison of ophthalmic and non–ophthalmic prescriptions was done using the χ 2
test.
Results: 252 and 116 patients were admitted for the first and second cohort respectively. In the first
cohort, 120 (40.8%) of ophthalmic prescriptions vs. 1267 (83.6%) of non–ophthalmic prescriptions
were correct; 48 (16.3%) vs 89 (5.9%) of eye drops vs non–ophthalmic medications were prescribed
incorrectly; and 126 (42.9%) of ophthalmic prescriptions vs 160

There is an old adage that states, "Guns don't kill people, people with guns kill people." This old
saying is the similar to the train of thought that ancient Greeks believed. Greeks believed that the
weapon that was used in commiting the crime was not at fault then the murderer, due to the fact that

Epistolary Of Frankenstein
An epistolary novel is a novel written as a series of documents. The usual form is letters, although
diary entries, newspaper clippings and other documents are sometimes used. Mary Shelley's book is
written in epistolary form because the novel opens with four letters written by Walton to his sister
and letters between the Frankenstein family.

actually the scientist, who embarks on his ambitious quest to obtain the power of God and bestow

Childhood Memories Essay
Childhood Memories Dad said, "We're going for a ride on the bus." "Ride to where," I thought
excitedly. I remember waiting in the bus station; people going about their business. The bus we got
on was huge, with room for at least a hundred people, with plenty of room. It was a cold, windy
evening. I sat at the front so I could see out of the window. Bright lights were heading towards us. It
seemed as though we had been travelling for hours. The bus stopped a few times to pick people up,
on the way. A man got on and sat down near to us. "Hello, young'un," he said. I was too frightened

the electric blankets on for you, your beds will be nice and warm when you get in them tonight."
"Electric blanket," I thought to myself. "We've only got hot water bottles at home." We went into the
kitchen where Nana had made us some supper. The kitchen was huge. My eyes, wandered around. I
noticed that there were some tins on the top shelf. But they were so tall. "Why are the tins so big?" I
asked my Dad, He replied. "They are full of powder, you mix it with water to make soup." "Yuk
powdered soup, how disgusting." As the night wore on my Nana said, "I'm off to bed, I'll see you in
the morning." We said goodnight to my Nana and off she went. She opened the living room door to

must have gone under the stairs to look for something before she went to bed, but didn't come out.

A Study On Annan Academy 's Geography Class
Carlisle is the only city in Cumbria, automatically making it the administrative centre of the county.
Other than administration, Carlisle has several other areas in which its activities are focused, such as
tourism, shopping, and education. These areas are known as settlement functions. Functions tend to
change and develop as a city grows over the years. Carlisle is a successful city, but whether or not
this is due to its changing functions is debatable.
Annan Academy's Geography class went to Carlisle in September 2015 to obtain primary research
data of the city's geographical issues.
Method 1
In order to figure out some of the current main functions of Carlisle, the first research method used
for this report was two RICEPOTS surveys of different areas in Carlisle – the CBD (the square near
the Tourist Information Centre) and the area from West Tower Street to Corporation Road. These
areas were chosen to display a contrast in the land usage of two areas of Carlisle which are close
together. The RICEPOTS surveys were completed by walking around the areas and annotating a
map with the purpose of each building in the area. Once both maps were annotated, the information
was put into a table before being compiled into a comparative bar graph (see: Graph 1).
The results show that West Tower Street to Corporation Road is largely residential, with 35 terraced
houses, and that the square near the Tourist Information Centre is largely commercial with 47

The Factors That Influence The Design Process
P1 –You must describe the factors that influence the design process. There are numerous factors that
affect the design process, and how the design is produced at the end. When buildings are in process
of design they must ensure that the whole building and all the process of the build follow the correct
rules and regulations of legislation. There are an incredible number of enactments that influences the
general outline. Such as The Disabled or Disabilities Act, this ensures that the building is accessible
for wheelchairs. If they do not meet the requirements, the design process, and any other processes
taking place at that time must stop immediately and carry on when the correct legislation is carried
out. There are many more legislations to take into consideration these are only a couple. As you can
see, legislation does influence the design process. An appraisal of the criteria for success is
completed to determine whether the building process can go ahead, this is done in the design stages
of the development. The main purpose for the appraisal is to assess the feasibility, this means
assessing if the build is practicable. When feasibility is completed the design process can then take
off, if not completed this could postpone the process, if not they will decide that the building will
not proceed. Accessibility links with the previous statement above, during the design process they
need to address the specific entrances and exits of the building, such as ramps for

How Did Democritus Contribute To Chemistry
Democritus was born in Abdera, Greece in 460BC and was a Greek philosopher. In 465BC, he
theorised how the world contains a limitless number of atoms moving in an infinite empty space and
that these atoms are invisible and joined particles of matter that are unbreakable. Their different
from one another in size, shape, and position and everything in the world is a various combination
of these atoms. Democritus was convinced that all sensation of touch, was resulted from atoms
colliding. He also stated that the senses come out with a world of colours, smells and tastes,
although in reality, only atoms and the empty space exist. He wrote ethics, physics, mathematics,
literature and language, however only parts of his work remained. He later died in 370BC. ... Show

His theory which was first presented in 1803, stated that each chemical element is made up of its
own kind of atoms, all consisting of the same relative weight. It also explained why a fixed weight
of two substances always combine, when forming a compound. He did this research by making use
of the common laboratory equipment of the day. John Dalton was born on the 6th of September,
1766, in Cumbria, England. In 1794, he published the first major study of colour blindness, an
illness he had. In 1802, he released a law which is now known as Dalton's law of partial pressures.
The law states that the amount of pressure applied by a mixture of gases, is the total pressure for all
individual gases in the mixture. John Dalton later died on the 27th of July,

The Ideal Site For Radioactive Waste Disposal
Define the ideal site for radioactive waste disposal.
In the present day, nuclear power is responsible for generating roughly one sixth of the UK's
electrical energy. We have a total of nine active nuclear power plants distributed around the country,
housing sixteen nuclear reactors. In the US, one fifth of energy is produced by nuclear power.
Nuclear energy production has many advantages compared to other sources. For example, it has
very low pollution levels, unlike methods involving fossil fuels, which produce high amounts of
pollution, therefore harming the atmosphere and environment. Also, nuclear power has a high
energy density production and so less fuel is required; it is estimated that a single nuclear fission
reaction releases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Radiation exposure can cause birth defects, cancer, and in extreme cases, death. The extent of the
damage caused depends on the radioactivity of the substance as well as the length of exposure. The
length of time that a certain type of waste is dangerous depends on the half–life of each isotope in
the waste. During the process of radioactive decay, energy is released as the nucleus of a radioactive
isotope (the "parent") is changed into that of another isotope (the "daughter"). This radioactive
decay from parent to daughter continues until the original parent isotope changes into a stable, non–
radiactive isotope. Throughout the process, energy is released in the form of energetic particles or
rays. Hence, in a sample of uranium, the parent uranium isotopes are constantly decaying until the
sample consists of only lead, the final daughter isotope in the uranium decay series. It takes a very
long time for all the uranium to decay completely to lead, the half–life of the uranium isotope
uranium–238, for example, is 4.5 billion years.
Much research is constantly going into updating and improving disposal schemes for radioactive
waste, in the search to find the ideal site and method. Low–level and high–level radioactive wastes
are handled very differently but it is important that both are safely and securely disposed of in order
to minimize risk of damage to the surrounding population and environment.
Low–Level Waste Disposal

Comparing Constabularies The City of London and the Lancashire constabularies' route to community policing and equality and diversity can be seen just by looking at the recruitment of the officers they have. However, there is a scope for ethnic minorities and gender officers. Out of 43 forces London had the lowest proportion of 22.5% of female officers compared to Cumbria which had the largest proportion of 35.4%. From this methodology alone, it demonstrates that both constabularies perceive the assorted qualities inside of the zones which they cover. The likenesses between both constabularies and how they go about community policing are comparable in a few viewpoints, particularly concerning the size distinction between what they both spread. By far the Lancashire constabulary constantly has been the best police force in the country by diversity, focusing on community policing and putting the public first by protecting. • 42. Where to Build a Wind Farm? – Geography Assessment In my opinion, the best place to build a wind farm in Cumbria is off the shore of Allonby. This is because; it has a lot of advantages which suit it, for being the best place to build a wind farm; as of its location and ingenious ideology behind it. Moreover, it is an offshore wind farm, which means that it will benefit a lot of homes, as at the sea it is extremely windy. Thus, a lot of electricity is generated, providing a lot of electricity than usual. However, some people would say that, because it is near a town, it'll be very noisy and distracting to tourists and residents, and will even be an 'eyesore.' On the contrary, the wind farm will be 3 metres away from the land, so there is the least possibility of noise pollution and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it has marshland, and a wind farm cannot be built as of its instability and it is close to a city (Carlisle) which means that, it can possibly disturb tourism activity or increase it, and create noise problems. Also, it would obstruct birds, ecosystems and plants. Besides, Anthorn was on the coast and had some roads, so cars can get through for maintenance, however it had some radio masts and it would interfere with radio signals and be an additional 'eyesore.' Moreover, Skiddaw could've had the winning chance, but some factors limited it. It had high ground and plenty of spaces, as there were essentially no buildings and it would not affect anyone in terms of noise, as it was on a high mountain. However, it is part of the Lake District and the famous town Bassenthwaite is next to it; and it can be very unattractive. However, as it being closer to a town, it can provide jobs. Albeit, it cannot be accessible to any transport, as it will be high on a mountain; but a helicopter can be the solution. However, the problem cannot be sorted out as thorough. Wind energy is an excellent alternative energy source, as it doesn't harm the environment – it just uses wind to drive the turbines, which spin around to drive the generator to generate electricity. As for crude oil and fossil fuels, they are running out and also harm the environment. However, this clean energy can very easily be generated. • 46. As The Advent Of The Eighteenth Century Had Came Into... As the advent of the eighteenth century had came into reality, profound developments in the realm of the arts began to take hold. Romanticism, as the era was known, shifted the focus from rational viewpoints to a feel of expressing "...freedom and revolution in their art and politics" (Poets). In effect, individuality began to take root in writing, an ideal not employed during the reign of Classicalism. William Wordsworth, one of the numerous promulgators of this era, had set the stage, writing over the complexity and nature of the world around him. One the most notable poems of Wordsworth are "London, 1802", which describes the decadence of Great Britain from his point of view, with notable focuses on its meaning and structure; Wordsworth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a matter of personal opinion, this poem seems peculiar with its prophetic undertones. To explain, a social divide like the one that is depicted by Wordsworth has been taking place in the United Kingdom. "Brexit", a referendum to leave the European Union that passed during the summer of 2016, mimics the nationalistic fervor that is exhibited in the poem, especially in phrasing such as "...raise us up, return to us again..." (Meyer 703). In addition, one can infer that since older generations of voters swayed the decision, they too have a longing for a revived golden age, much like the plea that Wordsworth has towards the likes of John Milton, who was before Wordsworth time. Of course, this notable poem could not only be directed to the United Kingdom, but across the world as well. Across the many systems of governments, an ideological shift towards the right on the political spectrum has offered growth in terms of their own nation being the first of concern, and the rest of the world second. Such a shift tries to revive the golden age that Wordsworth has longed desired. In essence, the poem exhibits a striking resemblance to the world's current ideological shift. William Wordsworth, living from 1770–1850, was renowned in his establishment of Romanticism, with most of his works being shaped by his experiences. Having commenced his education at Hawkshead Grammar School in 1779, he found his love for poetry while discovering how to express his delight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It displays an increase in the adoption of this particular government initiative and so it is perhaps an appropriate time to look at what this means for the landscape of the English schools system. Now in its third year, the initiative is certainly becoming more popular. The approval system had given permission to 65 schools last year, of which 50 will open this September (2012). • 62. Summary Of Child's First Tales Annotation Child's First Tales Annotation: Obviously from the title of this book, this excerpt is intended for children; for that reason, the text is exceedingly easy to read and understand. In fact, the first thing I noticed about this particular excerpt is the simplistic sentence structure and elementary word choice. Since the intended audience is young children, the short sentences and uncomplicated words reflect that. The author, William Carus Wilson, knew that kids have a very little attention span, so he made each sentence brief and to the point. And his consideration of children's limited vocabulary made him use simple words like good or bad to describe objects. Another thing I picked up on in my annotations, is that the author uses underlying rhetoric techniques to influence the way kids think. He attempts to convince audience justified racism through nationalism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nationalism was applied by promoting the English culture, and implying through this that other cultures were lesser than of the correct English way. For example, Wilson writes "good men went from our land teach [Africans] what is right", which is a nationalistic view. Briefly said, religion is utilized as a powerful to put down Africans because they worshipped gods of "wood and stone" and not the God who was popular in England. Lastly, the selective word choice was a rhetorical choice to persuade the readers to think a certain way about Africans. By this I mean, that the words black folk, black people, black boys, etc. were rarely seen without the word "poor". The author is trying to sway the reader to automatically think "poor" whenever the word "black" is uttered. Wilson wants to have the audience to look upon the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many factors affecting the drainage baiins of the River Tees, many of these are human factors. Water Barrage and Watersports: Much of the water nearing the sea is polluted with industrial waste, sewage, and chemicals. Water levels can rise very quickly following a rain storm. Storing water in the reservoir reduces flooding in the lower course. The land is too steep to use machinery, the growing season too short and the soils too thin and acidic For growing crops and so not much water is needed for irigation in comparison to the River Severn. Only where the land is less steep is the pasture improved by fertilizers, the occasional crop is grown, requiring some irigation water from the Tees. Hydro Electric power: There are no power plants along the Tees. There are also many natural factors affecting the hydrology of the River Tees drainage basin, these include: Geology: There is a succession of falls, where the river traverses a hard series of black basaltic rocks, the water flows fast her due to the steep down slope, the impermiable smooth rocks also allow fast flow and no infiltration, and so at times of heavy percipitation the water level at these points in the river will rise sharply and the power and speed of the river will increase. June 2010 optional question 3 Explain why William became involved in Wales in the years 1066 to 1087 (12) Plan * Wanted to assert his authority over them * Had to keep Wales at bay because the border kept shifting * Rebels that went against William went to Wales for safety The main reason that William became involved in Wales shortly after he had taken England was because he would have seen the Welsh as a threat. Along with many other countries, they would have known that the situation in England was unstable and William may have thought Wales were planning an invasion. Also, Scotland could provide refuge for anyone that had rebelled against William (including Edgar) which would have furthered the tensions. The disputes of land had also caused problems for William. Lands such as Cumbria and Northumbria were disputed between Malcolm and William. This became worrying for William because parts of his kingdom were being threatened to be taken from him which would give Malcolm more land and support against William. However, the threat of Scotland was not as substantial as some historians make it out to be. In 1072, William marched through Scotland with relative ease. Although Williams army was "fearfully exposed" according to Purser, the Scottish did not capitalize on this opportunity. This could be interpreted as Malcolm showing he did not want to fight against William. This point links into the treaty of Abernethy. In the same year Malcolm met William at abernethy and signed a treaty which shown that he recognised William as his superior. According to purser, in "good faith", Malcolm kicked Edgar out of his court which would have made further rebellions in the north very difficult. Overall, Scotland was initially a threat around the time of the Northern rebellion however the treaty of Abernathy played a main factor in extinguishing the threat of the ... • 86. The Effects Of Domestic Violence On Children Introduction. Domestic violence is a type of abuse which usually occurs between two people who are in a relationship. There are many types of domestic abuse, not all of which are physical. The types of abuse suffered by somebody living in a violent relationship could be emotional, physical, sexual, financial or psychological. Domestic abuse can occur during and after a relationship. Especially if there is a connection between the two people within the relationship for example children. For many years domestic violence was seen as something which happened to women only. This is now understood not to be the case as many men suffer domestic violence within relationships. The effects on children living within violent, volatile households is a concern for professionals involved with children. It is now recognised as a form of abuse and any child which is seen to be living in a dangerous household may be removed for their own safety and emotional well–being. This can although be hard for professionals to prove as people living in violent relationships often hide the fact they are being abused and almost protect the offender. Educational settings working with children are trained to safeguard children within their care although the quality of this training throughout the country is questionable and improvements may need to be implemented to ensure children and the victims of domestic violence are being protected and the offenders of this crime are brought to justice. Gun control is third on the list of subjects in which people are not willing to listen to the opposition's argument. One side of the gun control argument is that we need more gun control. The opposing side says we don't need stronger laws, or we need fewer laws. My stand on the argument is that we do not need stronger gun control laws. Further, despite the fact that gun ownership in the U.S. increased enormously during the 1990's, there was a consistent, dramatic reduction of criminal violence. In fact, homicide and violent crime have plunged over the last 15 years. Considering that 18 of 25 countries surveyed had an increase of violent crime, America's large decline is impressive. Moreover, Norway, Finland, Germany, France, and Denmark also have a high rate of private gun ownership, and the murder rates in these countries are as low as or lower than developed nations with less gun ownership (Kates & Mauser, 2007). Additionally, in states that have laws permitting concealed weapons for those who qualify, there has been a measurable reduction in violent crimes and murder. There are forty states that allow those who have permits to carry a handgun. Consequently, there are approximately 3.5 million U.S. citizens that are permitted to have a concealed weapon on their person, or in their car (Kates & Mauser, 2007). John Lott and David Mustard conducted a study on the concealed handguns law. They analyzed FBI crime statistics for the entire United States, covering the years from 1977 to 1992. With conservative approximations, states enacting the concealed weapons law had a reduction in rape by 5%, robbery by 3%, aggravated assault by 7%, and murder by 8.5% (Lott, n.d.). ... What you will see is something that has become very common in children and this condition effects over one third of children in the UK. It can put children on their death bed and take away their childhood. The topic I am speaking about is childhood obesity and how parents are responsible for this. Is it the children's fault that their parents feed them adult sized meals? That parents don't know how to say no without feeling guilty? That McDonalds is a quick, convenient, no cook meal? Is it the children's fault that roads are built for cars and not bikes? Is it the children's fault that one in five children have a TV in their room? That on average children are spending 7.5 hours a day on electronic devices? Is it the children's fault that fields take less priority than parking lots? Is it their fault that worldwide 34 children are dying every hour from obesity? No, no it is not. All of these adult made decisions are resulting in children being more likely to have risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure. Social services are now removing obese children from families that overfeed them, from the fear of their health. Deep geological disposal: A hydrogeological assessment of the Sellafield and Yucca Mountain repositories The disposal of high level radioactive waste (HLW) is a contentious issue that can have major environmental consequences. As such, the treatment of such waste is governed by strict guidelines and protocols. Deep geologic burial is often a solution that appears to satisfy requirements for safe disposal. Sites chosen as candidates for deep burial must keep the waste separate from the biosphere for at least 10,000 years. But instead of going upstairs she opened the door beneath the stairs and went in, she must have gone under the stairs to look for something before she went to bed, but didn't come out. That's strange, what could be so fascinating in there that she didn't come back out. Dad said, "Come on son we'll ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Is Graffiti Portrayed In Our Society? 1 Studying Sociology for nearly two years has taught me how society is continually changing and 2 that the principles of the subject are the fundamental building blocks of how the world works. 3 I am interested in how Marxist, Feminist and Functionalist perspectives impact the world 4 today. Topics such as Childhood, Education and the Family have captured my curiosity into the 5 subject and driven me to want to study it further at university level. Childhood was 6 fascinating as it thoroughly evaluates how an individual's childhood impacts their future and 7 how one's childhood experience can differ from the norm. For example, children in third world 8 countries would have a completely different childhood to those growing up in a westernised 9 ... My EPQ question was 33 "How is graffiti portrayed in our society?" which involved understanding the public's views on 34 graffiti and doing in–depth research on Banksy. I am an active member in the Baking Society 35 and the Film Society at Finham Park Sixth form. We host bake sales and sell to the students 36 and staff. The baking society interlinks with the charity committee, which I am also involved 37 with. I would take the opportunity to join a wide range of societies during my university 38 life, allowing me to meet new people who have similar interests and developing my knowledge 39 with them. 40 I would be an asset to the sociology department because I am hard working, determined and 41 motivated in achieving results. In April 2016, I won the Social Sciences Year 12 award, chosen 42 out of the year group, at the Star–Studded Celebration of Success. This was because of my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 142. A Study On Annan Academy 's Geography Class Carlisle is the only city in Cumbria, automatically making it the administrative centre of the county. Other than administration, Carlisle has several other areas in which its activities are focused, such as tourism, shopping, and education. These areas are known as settlement functions. Functions tend to change and develop as a city grows over the years. Carlisle is a successful city, but whether or not this is due to its changing functions is debatable. Annan Academy's Geography class went to Carlisle in September 2015 to obtain primary research data of the city's geographical issues. Method 1 In order to figure out some of the current main functions of Carlisle, the first research method used for this report was two RICEPOTS surveys of different areas in Carlisle – the CBD (the square near the Tourist Information Centre) and the area from West Tower Street to Corporation Road. These areas were chosen to display a contrast in the land usage of two areas of Carlisle which are close together. The RICEPOTS surveys were completed by walking around the areas and annotating a map with the purpose of each building in the area. Once both maps were annotated, the information was put into a table before being compiled into a comparative bar graph (see: Graph 1). The results show that West Tower Street to Corporation Road is largely residential, with 35 terraced houses, and that the square near the Tourist Information Centre is largely commercial with 47 specialist shops ... • 146. The Factors That Influence The Design Process P1 –You must describe the factors that influence the design process. There are numerous factors that affect the design process, and how the design is produced at the end. When buildings are in process of design they must ensure that the whole building and all the process of the build follow the correct rules and regulations of legislation. There are an incredible number of enactments that influences the general outline. Such as The Disabled or Disabilities Act, this ensures that the building is accessible for wheelchairs. If they do not meet the requirements, the design process, and any other processes taking place at that time must stop immediately and carry on when the correct legislation is carried out. There are many more legislations to take into consideration these are only a couple. As you can see, legislation does influence the design process. An appraisal of the criteria for success is completed to determine whether the building process can go ahead, this is done in the design stages of the development. The main purpose for the appraisal is to assess the feasibility, this means assessing if the build is practicable. When feasibility is completed the design process can then take off, if not completed this could postpone the process, if not they will decide that the building will not proceed. Accessibility links with the previous statement above, during the design process they need to address the specific entrances and exits of the building, such as ramps for ... • 150. How Did Democritus Contribute To Chemistry Democritus was born in Abdera, Greece in 460BC and was a Greek philosopher. In 465BC, he theorised how the world contains a limitless number of atoms moving in an infinite empty space and that these atoms are invisible and joined particles of matter that are unbreakable. Their different from one another in size, shape, and position and everything in the world is a various combination of these atoms. Democritus was convinced that all sensation of touch, was resulted from atoms colliding. He also stated that the senses come out with a world of colours, smells and tastes, although in reality, only atoms and the empty space exist. He wrote ethics, physics, mathematics, literature and language, however only parts of his work remained. He later died in 370BC. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His theory which was first presented in 1803, stated that each chemical element is made up of its own kind of atoms, all consisting of the same relative weight. It also explained why a fixed weight of two substances always combine, when forming a compound. He did this research by making use of the common laboratory equipment of the day. John Dalton was born on the 6th of September, 1766, in Cumbria, England. In 1794, he published the first major study of colour blindness, an illness he had. In 1802, he released a law which is now known as Dalton's law of partial pressures. The law states that the amount of pressure applied by a mixture of gases, is the total pressure for all individual gases in the mixture. John Dalton later died on the 27th of July, ... • 154. The Ideal Site For Radioactive Waste Disposal Define the ideal site for radioactive waste disposal. In the present day, nuclear power is responsible for generating roughly one sixth of the UK's electrical energy. We have a total of nine active nuclear power plants distributed around the country, housing sixteen nuclear reactors. In the US, one fifth of energy is produced by nuclear power. Nuclear energy production has many advantages compared to other sources. For example, it has very low pollution levels, unlike methods involving fossil fuels, which produce high amounts of pollution, therefore harming the atmosphere and environment. Also, nuclear power has a high energy density production and so less fuel is required; it is estimated that a single nuclear fission reaction releases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Radiation exposure can cause birth defects, cancer, and in extreme cases, death. The extent of the damage caused depends on the radioactivity of the substance as well as the length of exposure. The length of time that a certain type of waste is dangerous depends on the half–life of each isotope in the waste. During the process of radioactive decay, energy is released as the nucleus of a radioactive isotope (the "parent") is changed into that of another isotope (the "daughter"). This radioactive decay from parent to daughter continues until the original parent isotope changes into a stable, non– radiactive isotope. Throughout the process, energy is released in the form of energetic particles or rays. Hence, in a sample of uranium, the parent uranium isotopes are constantly decaying until the sample consists of only lead, the final daughter isotope in the uranium decay series. It takes a very long time for all the uranium to decay completely to lead, the half–life of the uranium isotope uranium–238, for example, is 4.5 billion years. Much research is constantly going into updating and improving disposal schemes for radioactive waste, in the search to find the ideal site and method. Low–level and high–level radioactive wastes are handled very differently but it is important that both are safely and securely disposed of in order to minimize risk of damage to the surrounding population and environment. Low–Level Waste Disposal The term ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
