Cyra Malfadden On Language Summary
In the article On Language; IN DEFENSE OF GENDER, author Cyra McFadden is trying to start a
discussion on how our language is primarily male oriented, but does not need to change. McFadden
mocks the variations being made to conform to a gender neutral language, including the use of words
like persons . By mocking the use of the neutral words like persons, it obvious that McFadden is
displeased with the changes of taking masculinity out of everyday language usage. The masculine
undertone of the English language and its unwanted changes are being acknowledged and scrutinized
because, of new gender identifiers in the working class, written language, and our spoken language.
The author makes a mockery out of the slashes used for words like he ... Show more content on

This supports the author s goal because, it brings to life her negative thoughts on people referring to
males and females as persons in order to accommodate the sensitivity of the other gender. I disagree
with McFadden s thoughts on referring to people as persons is ludicrous. By mocking the
accommodation of a new gender sensitive language, it s as if Cyra McFadden is bringing women
down, instead of uplifting us. We live in a time where women can be first responders, on the front
lines of war, and have important political power, yet it is easy to see as a woman that we still have to
fight for equality. This is the reason it is imperative to make the changes towards a gender neutral
language.
McFadden makes it known that the gender variations replaced by he slash she are unwelcome and
distracting. She describes the sound of the words he slash she while being read aloud, as a replay of
the Charles Manson killings. McFadden writes about the literary changes as a distraction saying in
print, those person suffixes and he/she s jump out from the page, as distracting as a cloud of gnats,
demanding that the reader note the writer s virtue (McFadden,

Herbal Remedies Should Not Be Legal
A pill for this and a pill for that seems to be all I hear. I say, No, no, no, give me options! It s my
health, and I want choices! Considering herbal remedies have been recorded for thousands of years for
medicinal purposes, I do not understand why I am not given choices for my health therapy. Herbal
remedies should not only be an option in the past, but should be considered and option made
accessible to everyone today. Using herbal remedies and supplements has changed and restored my
health, as I was able to cure my serious health issue without the use of prescription medication. Herbs
and herbal remedies have a long history with favorable results, learning from my personal experience
I believe people should be informed, and offered herbal remedies as an alternative to avert, or possibly
even cure some health issues. Although, herbal remedies may not be the solution to all health
problems, taking into consideration of the history recorded, alternative remedies should be considered
as an option for preventative care and treatment. To be given information on the historical uses of
herbs and herbal remedies, with regards to our health, would be beneficial to us all as this would give
people choices. Plants have been used for medicinal purposes long before recorded history. Ancient
Chinese and Egyptian papyrus writings describe medicinal uses for plants as early as 3,000 BC.
Indigenous cultures (such as African and Native American) used herbs in their healing

Why Children Choose to Murder
The reason for choosing this topic was because I have always been fascinated as to why children do
these crimes, were there warning signs before? I don t understand why children choose to murder; I
also would like to learn what was studied and why young children do such crimes. I would like to also
learn the background of these children, what they were exposed to, what characters they all have in
common.
Adams, K. A. The Child Who Murders: A Review of Theory and Research. Criminal Justice and
Behavior 1 (1974): 51 61.
Child murders come from a different social economic background. It s hard to define what a child
murder is. They often range from different personality some are aggressive, withdrawn, some can be
cruel. Many children who murder usually kill a family member or friends. They are don t have any are
not gang related, or have any affiliation. They murder because they have built up tension, frustrated
and it could take just one incident to trigger the aggregation to kill. In the paper it say that killing to a
child means (1) it s the most complete type of personal revenge the child has heard of; or (2) an
undesired individual disappears forever. Reinhardt (1970) found most child murders show no guilt.
The youths could not give an answer to why they kill . The article also says that children turn to
murder to get away from their present situation; they find that they have no return. It is important to
find out why young children murder what causes the aggression

The Music Of The World Of Music
The world of music has seen many memorable composers such as Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and Vivaldi,
but none of them have a story as amazing as the 18th century classical composer Ludwig Van
Beethoven. His life played out like one of his beautiful symphonies, with unimaginable highs, lows,
victories, and defeats, (Viegas 5). Although he lost his hearing when he was 26 years old, Beethoven
was famous for his nine symphonies, and is also recognized as one of the cornerstones of Western
civilization through the legacy of his music.
Ludwig Van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany. He was the son of Johann, a tenor of the court of
the Elector of Cologne, who also taught violin and piano lessons, and the grandson of the man he was
named after, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His father, Johann, became an alcoholic as a result of never living up to his father s musical
achievements. His greatest hope for success in life now rested on one individual his young son
Ludwig (Viegas 12). He gave Ludwig, music lessons from when he was very young. Many accounts
believe that Ludwig s father was abusive in his lessons. So dedicated to improving Ludwig s
musicianship, he would beat him or lock him in the cellar. Since these events took place when
Beethoven was at such an impressionable age, it is hard to tell how much of his later obsession with
music came from a love of the craft or from a drive instilled by his domineering father (Viegas 13).
Regardless of his father s dominance, Beethoven s musical prodigy was very natural for him. This is
proven by the fact that although his father encouraged him to play pre existing compositions,
Beethoven composed his own. In 1779, German composer Christian Gottlob Neefe took over Ludwig
s father s role as a music teacher. Mild mannered and well educated, he inspired Beethoven to pursue
his talent for composing music further, and in 1782, Neefe decided to publish Beethoven s
compositions. As Neefe began to publicize 12 year old Beethoven s talents, they caught the attention
of Maximilian Franz, the new elector of the region who had an appreciation for music. He had
Beethoven play the viola for his court orchestra and was very

African Women In Colonial Society By Carol Berkin
Essays should have organized thoughts, an interesting writing style, and most importantly get the
attention of the reader. The essay, African Women in Colonial Society, by Carol Berkin was no
exception. The claims were well thought out and clear, and the essay definitely hooked readers in with
an anecdote that led into the story quite fittingly. She had three noticeable claims that were major that
she talks about in the essay, and that is the struggles of African women, moreso compared to that of a
man s, the silver linings that the women found, and finally the unity of the Africans through common
languages and religion. For one thing, women struggled with obstacles, that men could not even have.
Women took a major role in childbirth, but the malnourished, and overworked women were not in the
best condition to have children. Regardless they had many, and that mean a lot of the women and their
children would die during birth. They had about three children in their lifetime, and only two would
survive. Additionally, the laws back then had no care for the wellbeing of the women. This led to
awful laws that actually benefitted the men who would rape and seduce women. Additionally, all of
the adjusting they had to do after their arrival really took a toll on them. Once they came to America
after their brutal transport through the middle passage, they had to immediately be accustomed to a
new language, climate, food, and culture. Once she was sold to her master, a lot of her

Loss Of Innocence In Catcher In The Rye
Justin Hwang Ms. Lydia Wells English 9 10/24/17 Loneliness and Phoniness: Loss of Innocence in
Salinger s Catcher in the Rye Loss of innocence is one of the major elements of The Catcher in the
Rye that make the novel so renowned. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger is about an adolescent
named Holden who wanders around New York City after being kicked out of a prestigious boarding
school in eastern Pennsylvania. While learning more about himself and the adult world, he
experiences alcohol, prostitution, and sexuality. Holden struggles with issues such as identity and
maturity. Eventually, he realizes what it means to become an adult and accepts that maturity and
development is inevitable. Holden suffers from a loss of innocence when ... Show more content on

However, he admits that while the couple s actions are crumby (Salinger 81) and crude, he is still
aroused and wouldn t mind (Salinger 81) doing it, especially to a girl he is attracted to. While Holden
wants to preserve his innocence by not thinking about sex at all, he agrees that he is a sex maniac
(Salinger 81), and is a fiend about losing his virginity. Holden even goes as far as to make rules for
himself. On page 82, he recounts, I made a rule that I was going to quit horsing around with girls that,
deep down, gave me a pain in the ass. I broke it, though, the same week I made it the same night, as a
matter of fact (Salinger). He is slowly losing his innocence, and while he hates to admit it, Holden s
constant thoughts about sexuality is a sign of adulthood. To him, one should only have sex with
someone they truly love. Holden is almost proud of himself for having such a morally correct view of
sex. This is why he is so riled when he discovers that Stradlater had sex with Jane Gallagher. Holden
realized that Jane barely knew Stradlater and felt that he, if anyone, should be dating Jane. His
increasing thoughts on sexuality and loss of a conventional or shielded view of sex show that his loss
of innocence is apparent. Holden also loses his innocence when he accepts the inevitability of growing
up. When he visits the Natural History Museum, Holden notes that the exhibits

Down Syndrome Case Study
What is her age adjusted risk for Down Syndrome? Per ACOG Practice Bulletin #88, (2007) her risk
for Down Syndrome is 1:267, whereas her risk for any chromosomal abnormality at this age is 1:148.
This also translates as the risk of not having a baby affected by Down Syndrome is 266:267 and not
having any chromosomal abnormality as 147:148. How does this compare to the risk of diagnostic
testing? At 11 weeks, her risks of pregnancy loss from invasive testing are greater than those of
finding the anomaly. Non invasive testing, such as Nuchal fold testing and Beta hCG and PAPP A can
be done at this point with no risk to the fetus.
What are the differences between diagnostic and screening tests? Diagnostic tests actually diagnose a
condition by finding the chromosome involved in the defect. Screening tests look for markers that
indicate increased risk of the disorder. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay On Mondelez Pakistan
Unethical aspects in Mondelez
Tax evasion/avoidance
Mondelez in Pakistan are now buying commercials for Cadbury, Tang and Eclairs from Mondelez
India. This means they don t have to waste money for new commercials in Pakistan. The government
is investigating allegations of excise evasion by Cadbury India. Cadbury India is now in the process of
becoming Mondelez International, a name it acquired after being taken over by Kraft and the
restructuring of the latter. Mondelez Pakistan are using television commercials and advertisements of
Mondelez India as the culture in Asia is the same, and this also gets tax evasion for Mondelez Pakistan
from Government of Pakistan. For example Mondelez Pakistan recently buys Indian Cadbury dairy
milk advertisement. So to avoid from high taxes, Mondelez Pakistan use this unethical practice
because the culture of both Pakistan and India are different.
More attention towards shareholders

APRN Case Study
APRN in South Carolina
The South Carolina State Board of Nursing is responsible for licensure of APRNs (American
Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2014). South Carolina (SC) is a restricted practice state, requiring
Nurse Practitioners (NP) to be 1) supervised by, 2) perform delegated tasks from or 3) work as part of
a team managed by, a medical doctor or dentist (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2014).
To obtain an APRN license in SC requires a RN license, in good standing, a graduate degree and

II drugs in limited circumstances (South Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants, 2013). These
include a one time dosing in a hospital setting and renewals of medications prescribed by an MD
(South Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants, 2013). Hopefully, the South Carolina Board of

National Certifying Board Options for South Carolina
There are two main certifying options, the AACN and the ANCC, for the state of SC (South Carolina

To A Mouse, By Robert Burns
In the poem, To a Mouse, by Robert Burns, is one confusing poem. From my understanding, when
someone knows what the poem is talking about it makes more sense. When you hear the poem being
read aloud, you can start to understand exactly what is going at. In this poem, a mouse s home was
destroyed by a farmer. Let s just say that, that farmer was pretty upset doing such a thing. Being a
farmer and not knowing what you are going to destroy, can be devastating, but at the same time you
when you need to get work done, you don t care what is in the way. But there are three important
messages from To a Mouse, the mouse s home gets destroyed, secondly Burns says that we the people
and the mouse have some similar traits, and lastly we also have some differences. ... Show more

Burns now realizes what he has done and he feels incredibly horrible. He realizes that he destroyed a

destroying somethings home. Burns addresses the mouse as a companion he grieves the loss of its
nest. He believes that the mouse is blessed, compared to him. Secondly, we are somehow the same.
Robert Burns talks to the mouse saying how he can relate to the poor mouse s home. We can only
imagine how that mouse felt, losing its home and not having a place to stay during the winter. One
thing that caught my attention was why would the mouse choose the field? Maybe he didn t have any
other place to look and wanted to find something fast and quick. Burns says, But mousie, thou art no

The Overuse Of Antibiotics And Antibiotics
The overuse of antibiotics has been a problem for well over a decade. This misuse leads to many
nonvisible problems arising within the human population. As the use of antibiotics increases, the
number of antibiotic resistant bacteria also increases. When bacteria become resistant to an antibiotic,
another antibiotic must be used to try and kill it and the cycle becomes vicious. Michael Martin, Sapna
Thottathil, and Thomas Newman stated that antimicrobial resistance is, an increasingly serious threat
to global public health that requires action across all government sectors and society (2409).
Take for example MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus), a S. aureus strain that was
discovered in 1961 to be resistant to the antibiotic methicillin. Webmd indicates that MRSA has now
grown its resistance from methicillin to amoxicillin, penicillin, oxacillin and many other common
antibiotics (MRSA). This increase in resistance of a methicillin resistant strain of S. aureus can be
attributed to the increasing use and overuse of antibiotics, not only in the doctor s office but also in
agriculture. MRSA is only one of many antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. New resistant strains are
evolving rapidly. According to Dr. Ed Warren, there are high levels of antibiotic resistance in bacteria
causing common infections (e.g. urinary tract infections, pneumonia, bloodstream infections) in all
regions of the world (21).
In agriculture, overuse begins with nontherapeutic

Stereotypes In Mean Girls
Stereotypically, men and women have very different roles in the eyes of society. Gender roles and
stereotypes have a history in religious, political, legal and economic systems. In reality, men and
women are more alike than most people assume. Throughout the world there are struggles with
identity, power, and violence occurring everyday between both men and women. The film Mean Girls,
directed by Mark Walters, follows a young girl, Cady s, transition from being home schooled to public
high school. Cady enters the school s group of mean girls, otherwise known as the plastics , which
consists of Regina George, Gretchen Wieners, and Karen Smith. Throughout the film each character
struggles with their true identity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to the stereotype of physical appearance connected to identity, appearance is also connected to
power among the girls in Mean Girls. Because of the role appearance plays in one s identity and
power, Regina George in Mean Girls pays close attention to her appearance. While watching Regina
and her friends attend their P.E. class, Janis and Damian explain Regina George to Cady.
JANIS: Regina George. How do I even begin to explain Regina George?
RANDOM COMMENTS ABOUT REGINA: Regina George is flawless. She has two Fendi bags and
a silver Lexus. I hear her hair is insured for $10,000. I hear she does car commercials in Japan. Her
favorite movie is Varsity Blues. One time she met John Stamos on a plane. And he told her she was
pretty. One time she punched me in the face. It was awesome.
Regina s flawless appearance established her power among other girls. Among high school girls,
power is stereotypically established through looks. As shown in Mean Girls, girls will look up the
person they feel has the ideal appearance. The random comments said about Regina indicate that she
is idolized by many of the girls attending North Shore High School. Other girls know everything about
her, because they want to be just like her. This entrenches Regina s position at the school. In contrast
to Regina and other girls from Mean Girls, the boys on the island use fear to establish power. There

The Human Eye Has No Blind Spot
There are approximately 8.5 million known species in the world. Each one sees differently. A few
species vision is more advanced than others; as humans we are very limited to what we can see
compared to other animals. Birds of prey have the ability to see extreme detail at far distances. A bee
has hundreds of six sided lens and together the lenses form a single image. And an octopus s eye has
no blind spot. Each of these species eyesight has evolved overtime to adapt to survival needs.
Most individuals take for granted their ability to see. Eyesight is a major connection to the outside
world; around 80 percent of impressions are through sight, meaning that only 20 percent are from the
other four senses. The human eye has evolved over time to turn into what it is today. Through human s
needs for survival, the eye has changed to suit humans. Two of the most common types of eyes found
in nature are the camera type eye and compound eyes; the human eye fits into camera type eyes
because just like a camera lens focuses light onto something, the eye does a similar thing. The cornea,
a structure in the front of the eye, focuses light onto the retina, and behind the cornea, is a colored
membrane called the iris. It has an adjustable circular opening, the pupil, which expands or contracts
to determine the amount of light that enters the eye.
The eye did not always function this way. To get to this point the human eye has evolved. But scientist
debate how the eye has evolved.

Observing Social Behavior In Better Call Saul
Observing Social Behavior Social behavior is everywhere in society, hence why I didn t go far to
observe it. I observed social behavior by watching the first episode of Better Call Saul with no sound,
observing only the characters actions and the setting, to try and decipher the plot. By doing this, I have
gathered what I trust to be, the plot of the show. I believe it s a flashback to a young lawyer, James
McGill, trying to make it in his field. Between the struggle to make it and present day, something has
gone wrong. He is very skittish and afraid someone is going to come after him. We see this when he is
working at his present job, as a Cinnabon employee, and a man is staring at him. James starts
panicking, you can see him gulp down his spit, he is afraid this man is after him, but then the man
goes to greet his others outside the entrance and James is relieved. He then goes home to an empty
house which is nicer than what a Cinnabon worker could afford and then the scene changes and the
flashback begins. At the time, I couldn t tell this was a flashback, originally believing it was just
another character. Throughout careful observation, I came up with the theory of the show being a
flashback of James McGill s life.
The flashback starts in a court room and the entire room of people look annoyed, as if they are waiting
for someone. The lawyer is pacing back and forth, talking to himself, showing his nerves about the
case in the men s restroom. When he finally enters the

Personal Injury Client Analysis
About five years ago, I put a process in place for new personal injury clients that has resulted in a
substantial increase in the number of referrals that I get from satisfied clients. The process begins with
the initial appointment. During the appointment, I explain to the client the following:
My job is not to just sign an agreement and collect a fee at the end of your case. My job is to coach
you and guide you through the entire process.
Every champion athlete needs a good coach. The greatest basketball and football players need coaches
to guide them. If you go to a foreign country, you need someone who knows what they re doing to

You can t afford to take marginal cases or cases where the client is going to be a high needs client who

As I ve stressed in the past, in order to get to a point where you have a healthy flow of new clients and
a substantial increase income, you need to have several effective marketing systems in place that
automatically generate new calls to your office.
If you want to get to a point where your clients are referring good quality cases to your office, it is
imperative that you put this process in place. If you don t feel as though you have the time or the

It s important that you understand that it s okay for you to give certain clients premium service while

The Midnight Riders
The story of the midnight ride is one of controversy, many wonder who was the one to actually deliver
the message, and which is the most important. All those who journeyed on the midnight ride were
equally important because its story lives in infamy. Charles J. Caes, the author of the article Midnight
Riders, argues that Samuel Prescott is the most important and underrated midnight rider. Caes also
argues that Prescott should receive more credit than the others who joined him on the ride. In actuality,
Prescott is not as brave and heroic as Caes makes him out to be. The things that Samuel Prescott had
accomplished before the midnight ride are not as impressive as Caes makes them out to be. Also, The
fact that Samuel was the one to complete the mission is not as important as the bravery it takes to even
go on the mission. Those that choose their fate are more heroic than those who stumble upon it.
Samuel C. Prescott possesses the same amount of courage as any ordinary man can. Caes chose to
describe Samuel Prescott s retreat from the British as heroic. He used words to create a valiant image,
such as, swashbuckling and daredevil like, in order to pursue his audience (Caes 42). When Charles J.
Caes story is stripped of its frills and opinions, this event is of Prescott fleeing from the British scared
like a gnat in a spider web. Samuel Prescott did not ride, a steed that that flies fearless and fleeting, as
Paul Revere did (Longfellow 76). This quote is more reliable it

Comparing Dreams And Dream Deferred By Langston Hughes
Dreams and Dreams Deferred were written by African American poet Langston Hughes in a period in
time when racism and racial segregation were major problems in American society, and while both
poems discuss dreams in a similar way, there are different perspectives that can be observed when
interpreting them. While they portray the significance and decay of our dreams, an underlying
message or theme could possibly be the meaninglessness of a life without dreams, and that when they
get postponed, or deferred, they start deteriorating and eventually die. When observing the historical
context in which the poems were written, however, one could argue that Hughes is specifically talking
about the struggles African Americans were going through, having their dreams crushed by society
and the justice system of the United States with segregation laws and racism. Hughes uses a very
simple and direct language in both poems, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poet uses interesting similes that illustrate that very precisely, making it possible for the reader to
feel the process very vividly. He says that a deferred dream [dries] up like a raising, [festers] like a
sore, and [stinks] like rotten meat. The use of strands make it seem like the author is trying to
communicate the idea that a dream that gets postponed goes through a chronological process: it [dries]
up, [festers], [stinks], [crusts] and [sugars] over, sags, and finally [explodes]. It starts to slowly
retrograde and eventually disintegrates. The author uses an extremely raw and grotesque style to shock
the reader, warning that once the process starts, there is no going back. The author himself could have
experienced the process in his own life, along with many African Americans that suffered during his
time, and he could be trying to reference that in the

Essay on Cholera
Cholera
The disease, cholera, is an infection of the intestines, caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. As
stated in Microbes and Infections of the Gut, the bacterium is a Gram negative, comma shaped, highly
motile organism with a single terminal flagellum (105). Cholera is characterized by the most
significant symptom that presents with the disease, diarrhea, and victims can lose up to twenty liters of
body fluids in a day. Cholera can be a serious disease, due to the serious dehydration that can occur,
but it is only fatal if treatment is not administered as soon as possible. This research paper includes

However, although V. cholerae is the source of the cholera infection, the deadly effects of the disease
are the result of a potent toxin, called CTX, that the bacteria produce in the small intestine. CTX binds
to the intestinal walls, where it interferes with the normal flow of sodium and chloride. This causes the
body to secrete enormous amounts of water, leading to diarrhea and a rapid loss of fluids and salts
(electrolytes) (Cholera: Causes)
There are other common sources of cholera bacterium are surface or well water, seafood, raw fruits
and vegetables, and grains. In water, Vibrio cholerae can survive for long periods of time, staying
dormant. People in areas with poor sanitation, like crowded refugee camps, are at risk of cholera, due
to the fact that water provided for said community could be a source of contamination of cholera
bacteria. Seafood, when raw or undercooked, can be contaminated by cholera bacteria, if the seafood
came from certain areas with contaminated waters. Since the 1970s, cholera outbreaks in the U.S.
have been caused by smuggled seafood from cholera infected areas, and from the Gulf of Mexico.
Shellfish are especially contaminated, due to the fact that they filter large amounts of water,
concentrating the levels of cholera bacteria . Raw fruits especially unpeeled and vegetables coming
from an area with a source of cholera are another frequent source of the cholera bacteria. Innoculation

Revenge Theme In Beowulf
For my third literary work I chose the old English poem, Beowulf. One of the major themes in this
poem is revenge and how the characters portray it throughout the text. I chose to use this picture from
the internet because it portrays the theme of revenge and how people display it. In the first half of this
photograph it shows a car that is parked in two parking spaces, and the second half is the same car but
it is blocked in by shopping carts. The shopping carts were placed by an unhappy human when they

The Unfair Political System During The French Revolution
Social reform during the French Revolution developed due to the unfair political system, brutality
perpetrated by the first estate, and the living conditions the lower class lived through, nevertheless, the
violence and genocide committed in order to create reform were immoral. Prior to the French
Revolution, people of influence abused the political system in order to allow them to live in luxury.
The government consisted of the first, second and third estate. The First Estate is composed of kings,
queens, and other royalty personnel which is around one percent of the population. The Second Estate
consists of nobles and clergy, which is equivalent to one percent of the population. Lastly, is the Third

During the time of the French revolution people of the first estate, second estate, and citizens who
work for the said estates, were generally murdered violently either by mob attacks or the Guillotine.
The citizens of the third estate essentially wanted revenge on these people. The guillotine originally
was used by the first estate to punish the lower class, for example; if a citizen from the third estate did
not pay their taxes or they somehow disrespected a leader of power they would be sent, as
punishment, to the guillotine and be put to death. Ironically, throughout the duration of the French
revolution, the citizens who were previously affected by this tyranny used the same tactics in order to
create social reform. The citizens of the first estate would brutally force people of power to death or
subdue them to violent torture. An example of this could be when a man named Flouon justly needed
to be punished for crimes he had committed however the mob of citizens brutally murder him by
hanging him on a lamppost and then putting his head [upon] a pike (II.22.223). In addition to this,
another example of the violence and brutality committed in order to create social reform is The
Storming of the Bastille. The Bastille was a prison in France, which essentially represented the
authority of the upper estates, many low class citizens were imprisoned there for unjust reasons. the
time of the French revolution came around the citizen liberating the prison not only freed prisoners,
they killed many of the authority residing there unjustly and

Fall Of Rome Research Paper
Fall of Rome 467 A.D. The Western Roman Empire fell apart after a nearly 500 year run as the world
s greatest power. The fall can be blamed on hundreds of different elements ranging from military
failures and crippling taxation to natural calamities and even climate changes. The most probable
explanation for Western Rome s decline and decay is a chain of military losses sustained by external
forces. After the Battle of Adrianople in 378 A.D., the shocked Romans discussed peace with the
Goths. All the same, the truce would fall in 410 when the Goth King Alaric moved west and sacked

reasons: * From 1976 to 1982 the compound annual growth in net sales was 18.5% and the compound

Contrast of Irony and Style in Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour
Kate Chopin s use of irony in her short story, The Story of an Hour, stands in direct contrast to the
subtle manner in which she tells the story. Strong use of irony in a short story yields more honesty in a
character. She achieves this quality by immediately setting the premise, that Mrs. Mallard s fragile
health would ultimately lead to her demise, upon receiving the news of her husband s death. Before an
immediate assumption can be made about Mrs. Mallard, Chopin begins to start another path. This
divergence is apparent at the point of the story where Mrs. Mallard s reaction is anticipated, yet, She
did not hear the story as many women have heard the same, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The plot is driven by Mrs. Mallard s indulgence in her excitement for new found freedom. She is
building layer upon layer of anticipation for the years to come. That the years indeed will be all hers,
that they will, ...belong to her absolutely (171). When Brently Mallard returns home, the freedom
given birth inside his wife dies with her, while it is believed that she , ...died of heart disease of joy
that kills (171).
The stronger the use of irony, the more honest and true the character becomes to his or her feelings.
The feelings all too often left unspoken are the ones of the most significance, and importance to the
character. For example, in Jack London s To Build a Fire, the main character drives all thoughts of the
pearls of wisdom, and advice from his mind. He expects everything will go his way, but most
importantly his manner of conducting his happy go lucky machismo blinds him from his deepest inner
most instincts. These instincts which are supposed to save his life are repressed until he finds himself
in the utmost of life or death predicaments. The man, who at one point says, Those old timers were
rather womanish, some of them... (a36), when referring to their persistence he not travel alone, is now
a man faced with his inevitable death. The thought of himself lying stiff and dead surfaces, and even at
this most critical stage he tries to repress it, only to find, Sometimes it

Growing up in the fast growing city of New Delhi in India, I have witnessed several children grow in

The Impact Of Air Bags On A Car Safety Device
Impact Analysis of Air Bags
Name : Kevin Agrawal
ID. No 2013A4PS254G
Details of the reference paper used : http://www nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/pubs/806572.pdf Introduction
An airbag is a vehicle safety device consisting of a flexible fabric bag, also known as an airbag
cushion. The airbag module is designed to inflate rapidly then quickly deflate during a collision or
impact with another object or a sudden deceleration. The purpose of the airbag is to provide occupant
protection and restraint during a crash event.
The introduction of the air bags dates back to 11th July 1984 when the United States government
amended (FMVSS 208), to require cars produced after 1 April 1989 to be equipped with a passive
restraint for the driver. Hence an airbag along with and seat belt would meet the requirements of the
standard. The invention of the airbags is credited to the German engineer Walter Linderer and North
American John W. Hetrick who in 1951 registered for the first airbag patents.
The airbag cushions manufactured world wide are constructed with fabric made from nylon 6,6 yarn.
Air bags are actually inflated by a solid rocket booster. Sodium azide (NaN3) and potassium nitrate
(KNO3) react very quickly to produce a large pulse of hot nitrogen gas. This gas inflates the bag,
which literally bursts out of the steering wheel or dashboard as it expands. Airbags need to inflate at
an extremely fast rate in order to be fully inflated by the time a person s body begins to

Wildlife crime is a seriously under researched topic, even though it can be a highly controversial topic,
that has been the focus of the media many times in recent history. By writing the article Techniques of
neutralising wildlife crime in rural England and Wales Enticott begins to explore and open up this area
of criminology, whilst offering a deep insight into how neutralisation techniques can be applied to a
wide variety of crimes.
Enticott begins his article by introducing the idea of rural crime, and what a focus on rural crime could
offer to criminology as a whole. This article focuses on the reasons why farmers throughout England
and Wales illegally cull badgers, keyly it draws on the ideas of Sykes and Matza s (1957) ... Show

This paper may also be of use to wildlife policy makers, as it explains the way in which farmers, who
can commit wildlife crime, feel about committing these crimes and they do it. For those who are
particularly interested in the badger and bovine tuberculosis, as the author is, it may also give the, a
deeper understanding of how farmers would react to new methods of controlling badgers to prevent
the future spread of bovine tuberculosis.
It is evident to the reader from early on in the text what Enticott is arguing within this article, the
thesis is that farmers within England and Wales deploy multiple neutralisation techniques when
illegally culling badgers in order to justify and rationalise their actions. Exploring this thesis is
important to the field of criminology as it can be expanded to the whole of wildlife crime, and show
why various crimes against wildlife are committed.
The article is structured in such a manner that readers are aware of the cultural history of badgers and
the disease bovine tuberculosis, as well as key theories before Enticott goes on to analyse. This
presentation and explanation of these theories are clear and informative, and the use of appropriate
subheadings within the article make it easy for the reader to see the clear structure that the author is

What Is Education
Dear College Bound Student,
You are about to embark upon an important journey. You are going to pursue a higher education. To

ancient Greek philosophers to modern day English professors have evaluated the definition and goal
of education. You must gather the knowledge of these humanitarians to understand the definition
education, thereby directing you down the right path towards an enlightening college experience.
The ancient Greek philosopher Plato describes education in his Allegory of the Cave as a process of

Joon was different from other students who had the potential of enlightenment because he put forth
the effort to understand the information he was given in his courses. When a student puts his need for
entertainment and satisfaction aside, and takes the initiative to gain knowledge, he/she allows the
material to form himself/herself into an intellectual. Joon is a prime example of a student who looks
beyond getting a good grade, and focuses his college experience to acquire an education. If you want
to take charge of your college education, you should model after Joon and pursue the knowledge
presented in your classes. You must look beyond the homework and tests as grades, and perceive them
as academic opportunities for you to utilize your understanding of the material. This is relative to
Plato s interpretation of education, where the prisoner made the effort to achieve knowledge, instead
of returning to the cave, and attained spiritual enlightenment. It can then be said

distinguishes her as a transgressive woman because the role of the conqueror did not belong to women
in the nineteenth century. Simone de Beauvoir explains in The Second Sex that, Man encounters
Nature; he has a hold on it, he tries to appropriate it for himself (159). De Beauvoir also explains that,
Woman is her husband s prey, his property (171). Emma deviates from the women of her time period
because she not only has the ability to appropriate men for herself, but she also takes pleasure in using
men. The men in her life have become prey to her methodical seducing, and she captures them for the

Culture, Core Values, And Cultural Awareness Of Cuba
Cultural Awareness of Cuba Culture embodies a myriad of concepts that include customs, behaviors,
core values, and beliefs which support a specific population within a community or country. Culture is
a well defined set of principles and beliefs which are strengthened by the people who represent these
ideals. Each culture has its own unique and distinctive principles and engages its members as part of a
group whose key ideals are aligned with its beliefs and practices.
Each culture demonstrates its commitment to its people through norms and expectations which impact
its decisions and actions. Culture also signifies languages, religious beliefs, and dietary practices,

Cuba is representative of a different type of society which has in many ways, not embraced modern
technology due to the embargo and the lack of imports into the country; therefore, it falls behind in
many areas due to strict government control and limits the ability of its people to experience
meaningful economic growth (The Heritage Foundation, 2017). In this context, the people of Cuba
face significant challenges because they cannot seek opportunities for growth and development which
have a significant impact on their incomes and families (The Heritage Foundation, 2017). From this
perspective, there are important considerations to make regarding the Cuban economy and its lasting
impact on limiting economic prosperity for its people (The Heritage Foundation, 2017).
The primary language spoken in Cuba is Spanish, and within this culture, it is important for the people
throughout the country to gain access to opportunities such as education, which they believe will
provide them with access to new tools and resources to improve their lives (Donovan). In this context,
education is an essential value within the Cuban culture and provides a means of understanding how
the people of this country thrive, despite their limited economic circumstances and access to many
resources which are readily available to the people of other countries (Donovan). It is necessary that

Sexual Response Cycles
Men and women all go through sexual response cycles. The response cycle occurs in both sexes in
four phases. They are excitement, plateau, orgasm, and resolution. The first phase, excitement can
come from different things such as kissing, sexual thoughts, erotic videos or pictures, all of which can
lead to arousal. During this phase, the body is preparing for intercourse. For both men and women,
excitement causes similar changes to their bodies such as nipples and earlobes swelling. Muscle
tension, heart rate, blood pressure, and blood flow increases. With these changes, it can lead to heavier
breathing as well as a change in color to skin, commonly referred to as being flushed . While both men
and women experience increased blood flow, the increase in blood flow causes different things
between each sex. Men will experience an erection in the penis whereas women will experience
swelling in the clitoris and labia. Also, women s breasts can swell but men will not experience the
same swelling. The next phase, plateau, is before the orgasm. It causes our bodies to react in different
ways, much of which is a continuation of the excitement phase, such as ... Show more content on

This phase doesn t last very long. When men reach orgasm, they ejaculate, or release sperm. Normally
this is a continuation of sexual pleasure and only lasts for a few seconds. For women, the orgasm and
vary from woman to woman. Their bodies react by an increase in lubrication, tightening of the vaginal
walls, and overall pleasure. Orgasms that women experience are typically longer than what male s
experience and doesn t always include female ejaculation. Both men and women experience muscle
contractions during the orgasm phase but in different parts of their body. They also hit the highest
point of blood flow and breathing rate. After the orgasm is over for both men and women, their
genitals begin to return to its original state, which brings us into the next

  • 2. Cyra Malfadden On Language Summary In the article On Language; IN DEFENSE OF GENDER, author Cyra McFadden is trying to start a discussion on how our language is primarily male oriented, but does not need to change. McFadden mocks the variations being made to conform to a gender neutral language, including the use of words like persons . By mocking the use of the neutral words like persons, it obvious that McFadden is displeased with the changes of taking masculinity out of everyday language usage. The masculine undertone of the English language and its unwanted changes are being acknowledged and scrutinized because, of new gender identifiers in the working class, written language, and our spoken language. The author makes a mockery out of the slashes used for words like he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This supports the author s goal because, it brings to life her negative thoughts on people referring to males and females as persons in order to accommodate the sensitivity of the other gender. I disagree with McFadden s thoughts on referring to people as persons is ludicrous. By mocking the accommodation of a new gender sensitive language, it s as if Cyra McFadden is bringing women down, instead of uplifting us. We live in a time where women can be first responders, on the front lines of war, and have important political power, yet it is easy to see as a woman that we still have to fight for equality. This is the reason it is imperative to make the changes towards a gender neutral language. McFadden makes it known that the gender variations replaced by he slash she are unwelcome and distracting. She describes the sound of the words he slash she while being read aloud, as a replay of the Charles Manson killings. McFadden writes about the literary changes as a distraction saying in print, those person suffixes and he/she s jump out from the page, as distracting as a cloud of gnats, demanding that the reader note the writer s virtue (McFadden, ... • 3. Herbal Remedies Should Not Be Legal A pill for this and a pill for that seems to be all I hear. I say, No, no, no, give me options! It s my health, and I want choices! Considering herbal remedies have been recorded for thousands of years for medicinal purposes, I do not understand why I am not given choices for my health therapy. Herbal remedies should not only be an option in the past, but should be considered and option made accessible to everyone today. Using herbal remedies and supplements has changed and restored my health, as I was able to cure my serious health issue without the use of prescription medication. Herbs and herbal remedies have a long history with favorable results, learning from my personal experience I believe people should be informed, and offered herbal remedies as an alternative to avert, or possibly even cure some health issues. Although, herbal remedies may not be the solution to all health problems, taking into consideration of the history recorded, alternative remedies should be considered as an option for preventative care and treatment. I don t understand why children choose to murder; I also would like to learn what was studied and why young children do such crimes. I would like to also learn the background of these children, what they were exposed to, what characters they all have in common. Adams, K. A. The Child Who Murders: A Review of Theory and Research. Criminal Justice and Behavior 1 (1974): 51 61. Child murders come from a different social economic background. It s hard to define what a child murder is. They often range from different personality some are aggressive, withdrawn, some can be cruel. Many children who murder usually kill a family member or friends. They are don t have any are not gang related, or have any affiliation. They murder because they have built up tension, frustrated and it could take just one incident to trigger the aggregation to kill. In the paper it say that killing to a child means (1) it s the most complete type of personal revenge the child has heard of; or (2) an undesired individual disappears forever. Reinhardt (1970) found most child murders show no guilt. The youths could not give an answer to why they kill . The article also says that children turn to murder to get away from their present situation; they find that they have no return. • 5. The Music Of The World Of Music The world of music has seen many memorable composers such as Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and Vivaldi, but none of them have a story as amazing as the 18th century classical composer Ludwig Van Beethoven. His life played out like one of his beautiful symphonies, with unimaginable highs, lows, victories, and defeats, (Viegas 5). Although he lost his hearing when he was 26 years old, Beethoven was famous for his nine symphonies, and is also recognized as one of the cornerstones of Western civilization through the legacy of his music. His greatest hope for success in life now rested on one individual his young son Ludwig (Viegas 12). He gave Ludwig, music lessons from when he was very young. Many accounts believe that Ludwig s father was abusive in his lessons. So dedicated to improving Ludwig s musicianship, he would beat him or lock him in the cellar. Since these events took place when Beethoven was at such an impressionable age, it is hard to tell how much of his later obsession with music came from a love of the craft or from a drive instilled by his domineering father (Viegas 13). Regardless of his father s dominance, Beethoven s musical prodigy was very natural for him. This is proven by the fact that although his father encouraged him to play pre existing compositions, Beethoven composed his own. In 1779, German composer Christian Gottlob Neefe took over Ludwig s father s role as a music teacher. Mild mannered and well educated, he inspired Beethoven to pursue his talent for composing music further, and in 1782, Neefe decided to publish Beethoven s compositions. As Neefe began to publicize 12 year old Beethoven s talents, they caught the attention of Maximilian Franz, the new elector of the region who had an appreciation for music. The essay, African Women in Colonial Society, by Carol Berkin was no exception. The claims were well thought out and clear, and the essay definitely hooked readers in with an anecdote that led into the story quite fittingly. She had three noticeable claims that were major that she talks about in the essay, and that is the struggles of African women, moreso compared to that of a man s, the silver linings that the women found, and finally the unity of the Africans through common languages and religion. For one thing, women struggled with obstacles, that men could not even have. Women took a major role in childbirth, but the malnourished, and overworked women were not in the best condition to have children. Regardless they had many, and that mean a lot of the women and their children would die during birth. They had about three children in their lifetime, and only two would survive. Additionally, the laws back then had no care for the wellbeing of the women. This led to awful laws that actually benefitted the men who would rape and seduce women. Additionally, all of the adjusting they had to do after their arrival really took a toll on them. Once they came to America after their brutal transport through the middle passage, they had to immediately be accustomed to a new language, climate, food, and culture. Holden even goes as far as to make rules for himself. On page 82, he recounts, I made a rule that I was going to quit horsing around with girls that, deep down, gave me a pain in the ass. I broke it, though, the same week I made it the same night, as a matter of fact (Salinger). He is slowly losing his innocence, and while he hates to admit it, Holden s constant thoughts about sexuality is a sign of adulthood. To him, one should only have sex with someone they truly love. Holden is almost proud of himself for having such a morally correct view of sex. This is why he is so riled when he discovers that Stradlater had sex with Jane Gallagher. Holden realized that Jane barely knew Stradlater and felt that he, if anyone, should be dating Jane. His increasing thoughts on sexuality and loss of a conventional or shielded view of sex show that his loss of innocence is apparent. • 16. The Overuse Of Antibiotics And Antibiotics The overuse of antibiotics has been a problem for well over a decade. This misuse leads to many nonvisible problems arising within the human population. As the use of antibiotics increases, the number of antibiotic resistant bacteria also increases. When bacteria become resistant to an antibiotic, another antibiotic must be used to try and kill it and the cycle becomes vicious. Michael Martin, Sapna Thottathil, and Thomas Newman stated that antimicrobial resistance is, an increasingly serious threat to global public health that requires action across all government sectors and society (2409). Take for example MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus), a S. aureus strain that was discovered in 1961 to be resistant to the antibiotic methicillin. Webmd indicates that MRSA has now grown its resistance from methicillin to amoxicillin, penicillin, oxacillin and many other common antibiotics (MRSA). This increase in resistance of a methicillin resistant strain of S. aureus can be attributed to the increasing use and overuse of antibiotics, not only in the doctor s office but also in agriculture. MRSA is only one of many antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. New resistant strains are evolving rapidly. According to Dr. Ed Warren, there are high levels of antibiotic resistance in bacteria causing common infections (e.g. urinary tract infections, pneumonia, bloodstream infections) in all regions of the world (21). A bee has hundreds of six sided lens and together the lenses form a single image. And an octopus s eye has no blind spot. Each of these species eyesight has evolved overtime to adapt to survival needs. Most individuals take for granted their ability to see. Eyesight is a major connection to the outside world; around 80 percent of impressions are through sight, meaning that only 20 percent are from the other four senses. The human eye has evolved over time to turn into what it is today. Through human s needs for survival, the eye has changed to suit humans. Two of the most common types of eyes found in nature are the camera type eye and compound eyes; the human eye fits into camera type eyes because just like a camera lens focuses light onto something, the eye does a similar thing. The cornea, a structure in the front of the eye, focuses light onto the retina, and behind the cornea, is a colored membrane called the iris. It has an adjustable circular opening, the pupil, which expands or contracts to determine the amount of light that enters the eye. The eye did not always function this way. While they portray the significance and decay of our dreams, an underlying message or theme could possibly be the meaninglessness of a life without dreams, and that when they get postponed, or deferred, they start deteriorating and eventually die. When observing the historical context in which the poems were written, however, one could argue that Hughes is specifically talking about the struggles African Americans were going through, having their dreams crushed by society and the justice system of the United States with segregation laws and racism. Hughes uses a very simple and direct language in both poems, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poet uses interesting similes that illustrate that very precisely, making it possible for the reader to feel the process very vividly. He says that a deferred dream [dries] up like a raising, [festers] like a sore, and [stinks] like rotten meat. The use of strands make it seem like the author is trying to communicate the idea that a dream that gets postponed goes through a chronological process: it [dries] up, [festers], [stinks], [crusts] and [sugars] over, sags, and finally [explodes]. It starts to slowly retrograde and eventually disintegrates. The author uses an extremely raw and grotesque style to shock the reader, warning that once the process starts, there is no going back. However, although V. cholerae is the source of the cholera infection, the deadly effects of the disease are the result of a potent toxin, called CTX, that the bacteria produce in the small intestine. CTX binds to the intestinal walls, where it interferes with the normal flow of sodium and chloride. This causes the body to secrete enormous amounts of water, leading to diarrhea and a rapid loss of fluids and salts (electrolytes) (Cholera: Causes) There are other common sources of cholera bacterium are surface or well water, seafood, raw fruits and vegetables, and grains. In water, Vibrio cholerae can survive for long periods of time, staying dormant. People in areas with poor sanitation, like crowded refugee camps, are at risk of cholera, due to the fact that water provided for said community could be a source of contamination of cholera bacteria. Seafood, when raw or undercooked, can be contaminated by cholera bacteria, if the seafood came from certain areas with contaminated waters. Since the 1970s, cholera outbreaks in the U.S. have been caused by smuggled seafood from cholera infected areas, and from the Gulf of Mexico. One of the major themes in this poem is revenge and how the characters portray it throughout the text. In the first half of this photograph it shows a car that is parked in two parking spaces, and the second half is the same car but it is blocked in by shopping carts. The Unfair Political System During The French Revolution Social reform during the French Revolution developed due to the unfair political system, brutality perpetrated by the first estate, and the living conditions the lower class lived through, nevertheless, the violence and genocide committed in order to create reform were immoral. During the time of the French revolution people of the first estate, second estate, and citizens who work for the said estates, were generally murdered violently either by mob attacks or the Guillotine. The citizens of the third estate essentially wanted revenge on these people. The guillotine originally was used by the first estate to punish the lower class, for example; if a citizen from the third estate did not pay their taxes or they somehow disrespected a leader of power they would be sent, as punishment, to the guillotine and be put to death. Ironically, throughout the duration of the French revolution, the citizens who were previously affected by this tyranny used the same tactics in order to create social reform. The citizens of the first estate would brutally force people of power to death or subdue them to violent torture. An example of this could be when a man named Flouon justly needed to be punished for crimes he had committed however the mob of citizens brutally murder him by hanging him on a lamppost and then putting his head [upon] a pike (II.22.223). In addition to this, another example of the violence and brutality committed in order to create social reform is The Storming of the Bastille. The fall can be blamed on hundreds of different elements ranging from military failures and crippling taxation to natural calamities and even climate changes. The most probable explanation for Western Rome s decline and decay is a chain of military losses sustained by external forces. • 33. The Impact Of Air Bags On A Car Safety Device Impact Analysis of Air Bags Name : Kevin Agrawal ID. No 2013A4PS254G Details of the reference paper used : http://www nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/pubs/806572.pdf Introduction An airbag is a vehicle safety device consisting of a flexible fabric bag, also known as an airbag cushion. The airbag module is designed to inflate rapidly then quickly deflate during a collision or impact with another object or a sudden deceleration. The purpose of the airbag is to provide occupant protection and restraint during a crash event. The introduction of the air bags dates back to 11th July 1984 when the United States government amended (FMVSS 208), to require cars produced after 1 April 1989 to be equipped with a passive restraint for the driver. Hence an airbag along with and seat belt would meet the requirements of the standard. The invention of the airbags is credited to the German engineer Walter Linderer and North American John W. Hetrick who in 1951 registered for the first airbag patents. The airbag cushions manufactured world wide are constructed with fabric made from nylon 6,6 yarn. Air bags are actually inflated by a solid rocket booster. Sodium azide (NaN3) and potassium nitrate (KNO3) react very quickly to produce a large pulse of hot nitrogen gas. This gas inflates the bag, which literally bursts out of the steering wheel or dashboard as it expands.
