3. What is the Circulatory System
The circulatory system is a major transport system in the human body that transports substances
such as oxygen that is important for cellular respiration in combination with glucose transported
from the digestive system. This system also helps tissues get enough oxygen and nutrients, and it
helps them get rid of waste products.
The 4 main parts that make up the circulatory system
The Heart
Blood
Arteries
Capillaries
4. Functions of the Circulatory System
Functions of the Circulatory System:
1.Transport nutrients, gases and watse products around the body.
2.To protect the body from infection and blood loss.
3.To help the body to contain a constant temperature also called
"Thermoregulation".
4.To help maintain fluid balance within the body.
5. The Heart
What is the heart?
The heart is a hollow organ made up of muscle and is also apart of the cardiovascular system, it pumps
blood through your blood vessels that expands throughout the body and beats constantly for your entire
life. It plays the most important role in keeping a person alive
Functions of the heart.
Pumping oxygenated blood to other body parts.
Pumping hormones and other vital substances to different parts of the body.
Receiving deoxygenated blood and carrying metabolic waste products from the body and pumping it to the
lungs for oxygenation.
Maintaining blood pressure.
6. Arteries and Veins
What are Arteries and Veins?
Arteries and veins (also called blood vessels) are tubes of muscle that your blood flows
through. Arteries carry blood away from the heart to the rest of the body. Veins push blood
back to your heart. You have a complex system of connecting veins and arteries throughout
your body.
Importance of Veins and Arteries
The arteries (red) carry oxygen and nutrients away from your heart, to your body's tissues.
The veins (blue) take oxygen-poor blood back to the heart. Arteries begin with the aorta, the
large artery leaving the heart. They carry oxygen-rich blood away from the heart to all of
the body's tissues.
7. Capillaries
What are capillaries and why are they important?
Capillaries are tiny blood vessels that transport blood, nutrients and oxygen to cells
in your organs and body systems. Capillaries are the smallest blood vessels in your
vascular (blood vessel) system. Continuous capillaries are the most common type of
capillary in your body.
8. The blood
What part does blood play in the circulatory system?
Your circulatory system plays a critical role in keeping you alive. The circulatory
system is made up of blood vessels. These blood vessels carry blood to the lungs
for oxygen and they also carry blood away from and towards the heart. Arteries
carry blood away from the heart and veins carry blood back to the heart. Your
heart pumps oxygen-rich blood through arteries to the rest of the body. Your
veins help your body get rid of waste products. The circulatory system carries
oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to cells, and removes waste products, like
carbon dioxide thanks to the red blood cells and the plasma in your blood. The
blood also contains white blood cells the guards that protect the body from
pathogens . It also contains platelets these cells block up cuts and ruptures in
blood vessels .
9. Diseases and Disorders of the Circulatory
system
1. Atherosclerosis
● Atherosclerosis is a hardening of the arteries.
● It is typically caused by a diet high in fat, which leaves fatty deposits on the lining of
the blood vessels. These fatty deposits stick together and make the arteries hard and
less flexible.
● Atherosclerosis leads to high blood pressure, which can damage the heart and
kidneys and even lead to strokes.
10. POEM
The circulatory system controlled by the heart a organ system split into 4 parts arteries
capillaries and veins all controlled by the medulla in the brain
The circulatory system pumps blood though you and me the reason we talk think and see
The blood we have carries oxygen and more though red blood cells in which we store.
The circulatory system works cause the heart always does its part never stopping , always
bobbing
The arteries we have are oxygen rich , which comes from the heart to the body now
enriched With nutrients and oxygen the arteries just ditched .
The blood we have the veins contain the deoxygenated blood from the body to the heart
and the cycle restarts
The circulatory system vital to us all so when you hear a beat in your chest remember your
heart is doing its best
