Summary Of The Movie The Bear Came Over The Mountain
Stories can be told in many different ways through different forms of media ultimately trying to
explain the same idea. The short story The Bear Came Over the Mountain and the movie Away from
her are examples of two different ways of telling the same story trying to grasp the same ideas through
different forms of media. In this essay evaluations will be made between two different forms of media
using the short story The Bear Came Over the Mountain and the movie Away from Her . The
evaluation will explain whether or not the film lives up to the short story based on the detail, plot and
imagery.
In the movie Away from her the beginning scenes start off with the past and then head into the future,
then back to the past again , without explaining details that can be crucial to the story. In the beginning
of the short story it begins with the explanation of the characters family foundation where it states
Fiona s past Fiona lived in her parents house, in the town her and grant went to the university. Then it
goes into more detail of Fiona mother and father by stating Her mother was Icelandic a powerful
woman with a froth of white hair and indignant far left politics. The father was an important
cardiologist, revered around the hospital but happily subservient at home, where he would listen to his
wife s strange tirades with an absentminded smile. (Munro, 2013) The movie did not totally explain
Fiona s mother and father only bringing up a small portion that her

Student Learning Assessment
While my student is reading the assigned book, I will use the assessment chart above to assess the
student learning. For instance, I will observe to see if my student is employing context clues to help
her determining the meaning of words and phrases as they used in a text.
Mid lesson assessment: In this process, I will have my student summarize the book using textual
evidence, as well as showing the strategies she used to determine the meaning of words she did not
know. Then, I will have my student discuss about how she could relate the text to either her own life
experience or to a book she has already read. While she is sharing, I will listen attentively to assess her
learning comprehension.

After my student completes the handout, I will ask these following questions:
How did you know the answers?
What did you do to figure out the meaning of tricky words?
What helped you decide which words to use for the sentences?
Why did you the words you put in the sentences?
After my student answer, we will go over the answers.

Comparing The Song Of Creation And The Babylonian Creation...
Creation Myth Paper In this creation myth paper, one can will be comparing The Song of Creation
from the Rig Veda on page 15 in Fiero s The Humanistic Tradition, Book 1, with The Babylonian
Creation myth on page 19 to 20 in Fiero s The Humanistic Tradition, Book 1. The Song of Creation
from the Rig Veda on page 15 originates from India. Meanwhile The Babylonian Creation myth on
page 19 to 20 originated from Babylon. The main differences between these two creation myths is that
the first creation myth is based on the importance of water as the necessary requirement for the
beginning of life. For example, in the Rig Veda, the creation of the world was stated to come from a
watery darkness (Fiero 15). Meanwhile the second myth is more ... Show more content on

The primary source narrates about how back then before the universe was created, there was no
existence, no death or immortality (Fiero 15). It also raises questions about the creation of the universe
such as What covered it? Where was it? In whose keeping? (Fiero 15). These shows the uncertainty of
how the universe came to be. Meanwhile in The Babylonian Creation myth, it narrates or tells the
story about not only how the universe was created, but also how the gods entered the world, how the
earth came to be, as well as the creation of Babylon and humans (Fiero 19). In the first myth, the
universe was created when That One which came to be enclosed in nothing, arose at last, born of the
power of heat (Fiero 15). In my opinion, one canthink that back in the time, the people who created
this myth believed in a geocentric view of the universe where Earth was in the center. And that that
One came to be the sun which gave light to the world and allowed the prospering of plants and life.
Some imagery found in this primary source were darkness wrapped in darkness , only illumined water
cosmic waters, in depths unfathomed, (Fiero 15). These forms of imagery depicts or describes what
the universe was like before the that One arose. The order of creation in this myth seems to be that of
the One being in the empty universe before anything else and then when that One arose, he or she
brought heat as well as light in the world which most likely led to the beginning of light in the world
leading to life. In this creation myth, one can feel like the One is the universe or the creation because
according to lines 23, it states The gods themselves are later than creation (Fiero 15). So one can feel
like the universe created the gods not the other way around. In the text, life began with the arrival

Netflix Is An International Provider Of On Demand Internet...
Introduction
Established in 1997, Netflix is an international provider of on demand Internet steaming media, as
well as provider of DVD by mail, and makes its services available to viewers in various countries
worldwide. CEO Reed Hastings took the leap of faith by stepping into unchartered territory and
reinvented the way that consumers rented moves. His business model was considered to be one of the
most innovative models; he took the standard way of doing business in the movie and rental industry,
and turned it on its side to create a multi billion dollar company. Hastings attributed the success of
Netflix to the following: target a specific niche, stay flexible, never underestimate the competition,
and, there are no shortcuts.
The Firm s Overall Mission/Value/Culture/Objectives
Our appeal and success are built on providing the most expansive selection of DVD s; an easy way to
choose movies; and fast, free delivery . This mission statement not only complimented Netflix s goals
as a company, but was created to explain the value that Reed Hastings saw and believed in with the
creation of Netflix. Hastings, an extremely innovative, involved and engaged leader, believed in a
strong work culture, beliefs which many outsiders thought would lead to the company s demise.
Employees were often given work that three to four people might have been allotted at a traditional
company, and while many speculators felt that this would place an unnecessary burden on Netflix s

How to Reduce Carbon Emissions to Comply with New UK Law...
1.0 Executive Summary
Climate change has been a major topic of debate in the UK over the recent years. The need to reduce
the impact of CO2 and other Green House Gases (GHG) on the environment has pushed the UK
Government to enact legislations (e.g. Climate Change Act 2008) and impose strict regulations on
businesses to reduce emissions. These actions have forced businesses across a wide range of industrial
sectors to rethink and rework their strategies of utilising energy, transport and land in an efficient
manner, which in turn has lead to innovative and at the same time simple yet effective methods to
reduce carbon emissions.

Fourth Amendment Essay
In the late eighteenth century, after the United States of America achieved their independence from
their former ruler, American leaders decided that their country was in need of a new document to rule
over it. They took upon themselves the task of drafting the Constitution, which has been the supreme
law since its ratification. As part of its Bill of Rights, the Fourth Amendment protects American
citizens from unreasonable searches and seizures . While the internet did not exist for a couple more
centuries, this right that citizens have expands and changes as society does, therefore internet
protection falls under the umbrella of the Fourth Amendment. The government monitoring the internet
could be considered illegal under this fourth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This justifies the previous claims that internet protection should be included in the penumbra of the
Fourth and Fifth Amendments. A few years ago, a former employee of both the CIA and NSA, Edward
Snowden, became a whistleblower as he leaked information pertaining to the illicit activities of the
NSA. One of the NSA programs that Snowden informed the public on was called XKeyscore, which
allowed members of the NSA to search through enormous databases of emails, online chats, and
browsing histories of targets, (Business Insider). The government having the ability to investigate the
internet content of ordinary citizens, in any fashion similar to that of XKeyscore, is unjust and denies
American citizens their rights. The uproaring havoc of the public following the Snowden leaks reflects
how Americans today, as a whole, feel about their internet content being watched by the government.
Recently, the possibility of the FCC removing net neutrality concerned many citizens, afraid they were
possibly going to lose their internet privileges. While this does not directly correlate to monitoring the
internet, it goes to show that many Americans do not wish to have a reduction in their internet

Hamlet And Laertes Comparison
Hamlet and Laertes both have a very similar goal of revenge for the murder of their fathers. Although,
the situation and the circumstances of their father s death coexist, they each have individual responses
to the fatalities which are very different, and serve to highlight Hamlet s tragic flaw. When Laertes
hears of his father s death, he instantly becomes caught up with thoughts of revenge. While Hamlet
evaluates the consequences and outcomes of his actions, Laertes acts with no discreetness, saying, Let
come what comes only I ll be revenged / Most thoroughly for my father (IV.v.138). However, his
carelessness allows him to fall victim to Claudius manipulative nature and becomes a puppet in
Claudius plan to kill Hamlet. This emphasizes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of the three, Fortinbras seems to be the most successful in achieving his mission, and is in fact, the
only character in Hamlet who does so and remains alive. He clearly defines his goal on the outset to
recover by strong of hand those forsaid lands / So by his father lost (I.i.102), and then works
towards it immediately by gathering up a band of lawless resolutes (I.i.98), but is hindered when he
receives rebuke from Norway . However he is not deterred and in the end, old Norway Gives him
threescore thousand crowns in annual fee / And his commission to employ those soldiers (II.ii.74), and
finally, is successful in embrace fortune (V.ii.378). This contrasts with Hamlet, who is easily distracted
by his thoughts and emotions. His resolution to set it right (I.v.189), referring to the murder of his
father, gradually weakens following the loss of all his mirth (II.ii.304), the death of Ophelia and his
dialogue with Gertrude. Hamlet s tragic flaw is made even more obvious by Fortinbras success. In the
end, only when he is acting out of character, furious by Laertes betrayal, Claudius underhandedness
and Gertrude s death, is he finally able to succeed, at the cost of his own life. Personally, the most
striking example of the difference between Fortinbras and Hamlet occurs when Fortinbras strides into
the room at the end of the play to become the King of Denmark, showing the failure of the man who
thinks and the success of the man who acted

Invisalign Compare And Contrast
ClearCorrect vs. Invisalign: Which is Clearly the Better Option?
Invisalign is a series of customized clear aligners designed to progressively straighten teeth by
applying gentle pressure to move the teeth over time. Invisalign has been around since the 1990 s and
has earned a reputation for being an invisible alternative to metal braces, but these days, patients have
more options. ClearCorrect works in the same way as Invisalign, but has some clear similarities and
differences with its well known counterpart.
Similarities between ClearCorrect and Invisalign:
Both orthodontic options are virtually invisible, and provide a clear, non invasive, metal free
alternative to braces.

With ClearCorrect, for patients that have paid for full cases, these additional steps are usually free or
very low cost in comparison.
The ClearCorrect trays work in steps and they fabricate a few trays at a time. Therefore, the trays fit
and feel much better for the patient. The Invisalign trays don t fit as well and cause more pain. Mainly
because, they send all the trays at once.
Many patients report the clear aligners from ClearCorrect seem thinner and clearer than Invisalign,
making them less noticeable.
Customer service with Invisalign is typically poor. ClearCorrect has a reputation for excellent

Mentally Insane
Justice s Impact on the Treatment of the Mentally Insane Throughout the ages, society has debated
why mental disabilities occur and how to treat those with disabilities. One big concern is serving
justice when someone who is mentally ill commits a crime. As our society has learned more about
mental defects, the way we treat people with them has to change. As we consider the treatment of the
mentally ill across the ages, we see that justice can bring about more equitable and humane treatment.
Justice plays a huge role in our daily lives, where we have to decide what everyone deserves, and not
what we want to give them. St Augustine said that Justice is the second virtue, and it is the constant
and permanent determination to give everyone his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Durham rule did help people with mental illness and defects plead insanity in court, but it also
broadened the scope to too many people. Since the Durham rule states that an an accused is not
criminally responsible if his unlawful act was the product of a mental disease or defect (Durham v.
United States 1), people argued that being an alcoholic, or a drug addict was a mental defect. This
means that anyone who is an alcoholic can plead insanity, and not be held responsible for their actions.
Because of this, the Durham rule was never really accepted nationwide, but it is still used in New
Hampshire. Even though it was not widely accepted, it brought attention to the controversial case of
pleading insanity. Soon after the Durham rule was released, a group of American law students got
together to try and find a better solution. They came up with the American Law Institute Test (ALI),
that combined the M Naghten rule and the Irresistible impulses rule. The ALI said that the defendant
is not guilty by means of insanity, if they did not know what they were doing was wrong. The ALI also
says that antisocial personality disorder was not enough to deem you insane during an action. The ALI
is still being used

On Wishes By Mahmoud Darwish
Refugees are not terrorists, they are often the first victims of terrorism, was once written by an
anonymous author. Experiencing being a refugee in the middle east during times of war can be
extremely difficult. It can be a time of finding your strength, and building the courage to fight for what
you believe in. Mahmoud Darwish is the author of two poems Identity Card, and On Wishes. Darwish
s village was destroyed from the war, and later became exiled after joining the political opposition.
Darwish s perspective of war and having to mature faster than others are discussed throughout his two
poems. Throughout Darwish s poems he used vivid emotions to express the many struggles you may
run into while living life as a refugee. The first form of anger that Darwish uses to express his feeling
towards being exiled is through repetition. Darwish uses repetition in his poetry as a constant reminder
to himself and the reader that he is who he is, and that he is angry at the Israeli Army. He is stating that
no matter what they try to do that he will still be an Arab. In the poem Identity Card, he repeats the
phrase Put it on record. I am an Arab. Growing up as a refugee, the author most likely faced many
difficult situations based on his country of origin. By repeating this phrase, he is acknowledging the
fact that, although he is a refugee, he too is a human. In the poem On Wishes, the phrase Don t say to
me, is repetitive in the story. The people talking to him

St. Augustine The Human Condition
The major theme, The Human Condition , focused on the difference between the body and the soul as
well as their dualism, the soul being of three types: the nutritive soul, the sensitive soul, and the
intellectual soul. Through the readings of St. Augustine s The Confessions, Augustine leads the
audience to the idea that we are all individuals, but there is something common in our human
experience as he shares and examines the journey of his soul in order for the audience to reflect upon
this and see in his story the journey of our own soul. One story told by Augustine is referred to as the
Pear Tree. In this story, Augustine and a friend steal an unripe pear from a pear tree next door without
the intent of consuming the fruit. The reason

Audrey and Ronald s Children
Audrey and Ronald s oldest son, Robert, continued his career as an ironworker in the Seattle area until
he retired. However, in the late 1980s, his marriage to Sherry ended in divorce, after which he married
Eulah Mann in the 1990s. Audrey and Ronald s daughter, Dixie, never married, remained in her parent

After serving in the army and working briefly with the FBI, Jim married Cheryl Johnson, a former

Abstinence-Only Curriculum
The controversial topic of whether or not sex education curriculum should teach contraceptive use or
abstinence only is heavily debated. In 2013, the U.S. totaled 273,105 babies born by teenagers, ages
from 15 to 19 ( About Teen Pregnancy ). This raises the question: why is the number of pregnancies so
high? Is the reason for that unsettling high, number because abstinence only is being taught or
contraceptive use is being taught? Students who are taught abstinence only are more likely to wait to
have sex, which results in the lowering of teen pregnancy. The abstinence only curriculum also
reduces students sexual activity. The sex education curriculum in the U.S. should consist of abstinence
only education. The abstinence only curriculum of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many think that teaching students about contraceptives will reduce teenagers from having unplanned
pregnancies. Research confirms that education provided by Planned Parenthood, which teaches
contraceptive use, helps increase the use of contraceptives and condoms when students do become
sexually active (Neering). This means that they stress the use of condoms over the idea of waiting.
What happens when condoms or birth control fail? The curriculum of abstinence only believes that
teaching contraceptive use just encourages teenagers to become sexually active (ProQuest). According
to the Center of Disease Control, waiting lowers the risk of unintended pregnancy and sexually
transmitted diseases ( Sex Ed Must Stress Value of Abstinence. ). If they are not in the situation of
possibly having sex, then they do not face having an unplanned pregnancy. Kane 3
Overall, sex education in U.S. schools should remain abstinence only curriculum. Abstinence only
curriculum teaches students to wait to have sex. On the other hand, people believe that contraceptive
use curriculum will teach students to have less unprotected sex. This leaves the possibility of the
contraceptive failing, and having unplanned pregnancy. Abstinence only curriculum teaches students
that waiting is the best option for a good, healthy

Creating An Emergency Response Plan
Creating an emergency response plan is very important in any business. There are different plans for
medical, fire, police, and school. The following plans are imperative in any environment. There are
many things that will happen and Incident Command System (ICS) will help to provide the responders
with an effective system that works. But before we go into the structures, an understanding of an
incident command system needs to be addressed. According to OSHA, n.d., ICS is a standardized on
scene incident management concept designed specifically to allow responders to adopt an integrated
organizational structure equal to the complexity and demands of any single incident or multiple
incidents without being hindered by jurisdictional boundaries . ICS is a sub model of the National
Incident Management System (NIMS), as released by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in
2004.
An incident command system is referenced to an adaptable, scalable response association which
provides a general agenda where people can work side by side efficiently. These people may come
from many different agencies that do not normally work together, and an incident command system is
intended to give regular response and operation procedures to decrease the troubles and possibility for
miscommunication on such incidents. ICS has been summed up as a first on scene structure, where the
first responder is in charge until the situation has been cleared up, a more experienced responder

Good Night Poem
Fighting for Life The loss of a loved one is difficult to endure, but it is more difficult to watch that
loved one suffer through his or her illness. This is what late poet Dylan Thomas faced when he found
out his father was battling with blindness and certain illnesses. To express his feelings about the
situation, the poet wrote: Do not go gentle into that good night . In this poem, Thomas tells his father
to keep fighting for his life because there is much more to life than he knows. Using the structure,
diction, symbolism, and anaphora of the poem, Thomas emphasizes a universal message in Do not go
gentle into that good night : Never easily submit one s life to death because life is worth fighting
for.Notably, the structure of the poem is significant to the message the poem portrays. The poem is
divided up into six stanzas where the first five stanzas consist of three lines and the last stanza consists
of four lines. The first five stanzas tell the reader that the speaker wants someone to keep living and
fight against death. However, in the last stanza, the speaker reveals to the readers that the he is
referring to his father. The last stanza, being comprised of four lines rather than three, further
emphasizes the speaker s desire to have his father fight death and live life.In addition to this structure
of the poem, rhyme also plays an important role in emphasizing the author s message. This poem has a
specific rhyme scheme for the first five stanzas: aba, aba, aba,

Hockley In Titanic
The Titanic Depth of the Heart of the Ocean
Ahh, open your heart to me, Rose, pleads Caledon Hockley of the young Rose
in James Cameron s film, Titanic, just after he gives her a most expensive
diamond. The actor Billy Zane plays Hockley as a callous, jaded, been there done
that sophisticate who seems to want her heart simply because he believes it is for sale
and he has a right to it. His blindness to higher motives in love totally disqualifies him
from being worthy of Rose DeWitt Bukater, played by Kate Winslet. But perhaps it is
also the opaque nature of love itself that defeats him. This scene between Hockley and

The crew is stumped. But then
Rose hears a newscast about it, sees her picture on TV and calls the ship, asking, I
was just wondering if you had found the heart of the ocean yet, Mr. Lovett?
The literal gem, then, serves to drive the plot. People explore wrecks for the
challenge and for scientific purposes, but Cameron has Brock Lovett, played by Bill
Paxton, and his salvage crew searching for a diamond. This motivation works on two
levels. It gives a reason for the dangerous and expensive dive that the people sitting in
the dark theater can appreciate. Many people in this materialistic world can relate to
and understand betting one s life and fortune on a diamond that rivals the Hope
diamond in value. On an artistic level, though, the search for material wealth parallels
the confidence that the Titanic s owners place in material goods and technology. And
of course, just as money and wealth by themselves fail to make life worthwhile for most
people, all of the confidence her owners and passengers mistakenly place in the
integrity of this man made ship cannot keep them warm in ice water.
In addition to driving the plot, the diamond functions on a figurative, symbolic
level. The gem represents the human heart, the repository and driving force behind
people s emotions. Toward the end of

Introduction: The periodic table is the most important chemistry reference there is. It arranges all the
known elements in an informative array. Just like when entering a grocery store similar items are
grouped together which makes an item easier to find. Elements are arranged left to right and top to
bottom in order of increasing atomic number. The different rows of elements are called periods. The
period number of an element signifies the highest energy level an electron in that element occupies.

in many countries within Sub Saharan Africa. This is because teacher salaries have not kept up with
the high inflation rates in these countries, leaving the best teachers to search for better jobs or
emigrate. This then results in less prepared students and by the time they reach grade twelve, the
failure rate has increased to 50 percent. The reason for the high failure rate is most African students
are underprepared due to educationally disadvantaged backgrounds from not receiving proper

Education Industry Laws and Regulations
The education industry has many laws and regulations that protects the teachers and students. The
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was established in 2004. This is a federal law that
governs how public agencies and states serve children with disabilities from birth to age 21. This act
consists of different parts and the second part addresses the education of school age children with
disabilities. This is to ensure that every child with a disability has a free public education available to
them. They also have related services meant to satisfy their unique needs and to prepare them for
employment, a future education, and independent living. Local and state educational agencies receive

Marshals Research Paper
Over the course of the United States history, there have been numerous Federal Law enforcement
agencies that have protected and enforced laws within the United States. The Federal Borough of
Investigation (FIB), Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms (ATF) agency all
play a crucial role in a well ran Nation. There are many other Federal agencies that protect the nation
as well. The Transportation Security Agency (TSA) and customs and immigrations department are just
a few of many who protect the critical infrastructure of the United States. It s hard to believe that there

The west had small towns popping up everywhere and with little to no law, the Marshals were called
in to police the Wild West .
The Marshals duties really didn t with the exception of serving a lot more warrants and the hunting of
outlaws. Some of the famous outlaws hunted by the Marshals include Billy the Kid, Jessie James, and
Butch Cassidy. Marshals such as Wyatt Earp, Wild Bill Hickok and Pat Garret were perhaps just as
famous or infamous as the outlaws themselves. After many outlaw and Marshal deaths, the wild west
calmed down and the Marshals moved into a new century that brought civil unrest.
The 1900 s began with a steel, steel for railroads that is. With the expansion of America west, railroads
became the main source of travel. With no one to protect the railroads from robbers, and natives, the
US Marshals found themselves guarding Americas interest. 1917 brought the first World War and the
Marshals found them selves with new taskings from the justice department. They protected ports and
industries that were crucial to the success of America in the war.
Due to the development of multiple federal agencies such as the FBI, the Marshals fell silent until the
1960 s. The 1960 s was the start of the civil rights movement in America. With all of the unrest, the
Marshals found themselves protecting equality and integration of races. In the late 60 s the

The History And Development Of The Ancient Greek Theatre
Our dramas, plays and theatres today are all originally inspired by the classic Greek theatres. The
classic Greek theatres can be said as the pioneer in theatricals. As early as 700 B.C., ancient Greek
theatre was originated. There are four qualities of ancient Greek theatre which are the occasions for its
performance, competitive element, choral element and the basis of the theatre.
The earliest theatres or dramas were staged during spring to honor the god Dionysus. This festival,
City Dionysia was established by the Athenian ruler named Pisistratus. In Greek mythology, Dionysus
was known as the son of Zeus, the only god who was born by one god and one mortal parent, Semele.
He was also known as the god of wine, fertility and revelry. He was raised by satyrs, killed,
dismembered and was actually reborn. While other gods had temples for themselves, the cult of
Dionysus was hold in the wood. It was believed that he could liberate and inspire man. It was also
believed that he could endow man with divine creativity. Thus, Dionysus was considered as a patron
of arts.
As had been mentioned earlier, the festival, City Dionysia featured competition such as in music,
dance, poetry and singing and prizes were awarded to the winners each year. Actors and playwrights
presented tragedies and comedies during the three days of this festival and they ... Show more content

The earliest example of a circular stage occurs in theatre remains dating back to 330 B.C. Before that
period, stages probably were rectangular and the theatre itself constructed out of wood. Other fixtures
included a large platform on wheels that could be rolled in to show the aftermath of a scene not acted
out in front of the audience, and a device used like a crane to lift actors so they appeared to be floating
in mid air. In some plays this device was used for actors portraying

The Crying Game By Neil Jordan And Loaded By Christos...
¡§Texts both inform us of the social identities available to us, and problematize them; both police our
social selves and subvert them.¡¨
Both texts, The Crying Game by Neil Jordan and Loaded by Christos Tsiolkas, use
characters within the discourse to project social identities that have been
problematized due to social constraints. Throughout this essay, I will focus on
sexuality, as this type of social identity has been depicted as a central theme in both
texts. The characters from the texts work to, police and subvert their own sexual
identities within their social milieu.
¡§To claim an identity as a homosexual is to claim a place in a system of social
regulation¡¨ (Connell amp; Dowsett, 1992). I would firstly like ... Show more content on

Ari states that his
attraction is towards real men and masculinity, ¡§ Every time I look at a gay man, even
if I think he¡¦s attractive, I can¡¦t forget he¡¦s a faggot. I get off on real men,

In contrast, the character of Dil in The Crying Game, was portrayed as a transvestite.
Dil is a man that functions in society as a woman. To encourage Dil¡¦s sexual identity
as female, the film failed to reveal Dil as a transvestite until the latter half of the film,
and lead the audience to believe the she was a woman.
Sexual identities have been problematized due to social constraints. Deconstructionist
theories have given motive as to why such sexual identities have been seen as

considered the social norm and any identities varying from this norm would be
considered abnormal thus experiencing unjustness. Foucault debates that, ¡§the social

Explaining Dinosaurs Extintion
Though there is not one definitive explanation to explain dinosaurs extinction, there are various
theories that attempt to account for the mystery of their extinction. The theories that explain their
extinction at the end of the Cretaceous period are the asteroid, the volcanoes, and the major climatic
changes. The most popular theory for the extinction of the dinosaurs is that the Earth was hit by an
asteroid or a comet. Was the impact actually the cause behind the dinosaur s extinction? Or was it
something completely different? An analysis of the evidence surrounding the extinction of dinosaur s
reveals that there are several different hypothesis that give theory on what might have happened.
Over 65 million years ago, planet Earth consisted of an extraordinary species known as dinosaurs.
During this time something extremely large hit the earth, causing global devastation. 65% of all life on
the face of the planet was snuffed out of existence and the dinosaurs that roamed the planet up to that
point were no more (O Neill, 2009). Curiosity has grown over the past hundred years, and scientists
and researchers have given their life to find out what exactly happened on that mysterious day. A
dinosaur extinction hypothesis is a testable statement describing factors that may have contributed to
the dinosaurs demise and how long the process may have taken. Evidence, observation, and
experimentation can serve to support or disprove a hypothesis. Regardless of its ultimate

The Arthurian Code In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, composed by the Pearl Poet, portrays the story of one knight testing
the Arthurian code. At first no one accepts, until the weakest knight, Gawain, accepts the feat. This
game was a game of blow for blow, one knight may hit the other anywhere with an axe, and a year
later the other knight may return the hit one year later. When purposed, not one of the finest knights to
play, except for Gawain, the weakest of them all. The terms of the game send Gawain into the
wilderness of Britain, testing both his physical and mental skills but also the Arthurian code. The
Gawain poet intends to show the true hollowness of the Arthurian code, and how it does not stand up
outside the confines of Camelot. In the early parts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The text goes on telling of Gawain and his journey to find the Green Knight, as to keep his word true
due to his hubris and not wanting to seen as a coward. As he continues on, he notices the reward for
keeping true to his own chivalric code that is based in truth and reality instead of the Arthurian code.
When he prays to God, he finds the castle of the Green knight. As the story continues on Gawain is
tempted and put under a few tests. The most notable test is during his stay in the Green Knight s castle
he was tempted by the Green Knight s wife s wooing. Although he breaks code by denying the wife,
not being courteous and showing charm, he knew it was not the right thing for him to do. At the end of
the poem, Gawain was spared by the Green Knight, however it was not for his loyalty. The text reads,
It was loyalty that you lacked.... | but you loved your own life; so I blame you less. Gawain stood
speechless for what seemed like a century. (Gawain, ll. 2366) At this point Gawain realized although
his strength was strong, he was very concerned with himself which is not part of the Arthurian code.

The Fifteenth Amendment And Women s Suffrage Movement
Introduction The Women s Suffrage Movement was a political struggle, in which women protested
and assembled to vote and run for office. The idea that women could not vote, run for office, be
represented in the workplace, nor serve on juries contradicted early ideas that the American woman
was a protector of the concepts of freedom and righteousness. The American suffrage movement
originated from the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848 (history.com). At this convention, women
alongside a few men worked to write the Declaration of Sentiments, which would start the initial idea
to fight for the rights of women and provide a list of grievances in reference to the rights of women
such as: voting rights, property rights, and educational rights (Snider 2016). However, women would
not receive suffrage until the post Civil War era. Several leaders as well as movements would have to
amalgamate over the course of several decades for the voice of women to be heard and changes to be
made in accordance to law and society. The Fifteenth Amendment and Women s Rights The concept
of women s suffrage was first questioned under the clauses of the Fifteenth Amendment. Under this
amelioration, the denial of suffrage by the states to any citizen on account of race, color, or previous
condition of servitude was prohibited. However, radical Republicans did not want to handle the plank
of women s suffrage as it was feared that the goal of black enfranchisement would be delayed, as the

A Good Story By Anne Mccaffery
Anne Mccaffery once said that A good story is a good story no matter who wrote it. Well, what is a
good story? More specifically, what is a good short story? A good short story should have intriguing
characters that provide the readers with a rollercoaster of emotions. To make the characters as
interesting as possible, there is also a need for descriptive language and specific sensory details. The
events in the story should engage the reader and lead them into another world, they should let readers
journey through the story with the characters one page at a time. This applies to all stories, but to
achieve this in a short story is harder, since it is shorter in length. Another thing that is important in a
short story is the mood. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, readers are hooked on immediately when the character takes his first risk, You weren t planning
on going after that melon yourself? Well yes, I said, As a matter of fact I was! When the boys in the
story are discussing the great melon that belonged to Mr. Wills in the story, Deal drops a sudden bomb
on each reader. Throughout the whole story, Deal talks of the great melon that no one dares to steal,
then out of nowhere, our main character decides to steal it. This big risk is the start of an exciting,
adventurous story. Since one risk isn t enough, Deal gives the reader risk after risk. An example of that
is shown right after the boy decides to steal the melon, Anybody could steal it on a dark night, I said
scornfully. I m going to take it right out from under his nose. Tonight. This bold and seemingly stupid
response that Deal has inserted in the story is not without reason. This risk shows many emotions of
the protagonist. His loathing towards Mr. Wills and his pride and ignorance as a growing teenager is
what results in this decision. These complex feelings that are slowly shown to the reader makes this
story outstanding. The last and best risk the character takes gives us proof of his great nature, which is
demonstrated when the boy is talking to his father, Because I m afraid he ll shoot me, I said. My voice
didn t tremble much, but I couldn t

Competitive Environment And Maintaining Customer...
1.0 Introduction
In today s competitive environment, maintaining customer relationships is a key to business success
because customers are considered as important strategic resources of a business. However, all business
markets contain many subgroups of customers that behave differently, that have different ambitions,
and have different purchasing behaviours. Hence each subgroup must be treated differently in order to
build strong customer relationships. To compete with rival businesses, it is vital for a business to know
enough about their customers and to know the wants and needs of the customers.

Software Testing
Software Testing

Spring 1999
Authors: Jiantao Pan mailto:%20jpan@cmu.edu Abstract:
Software testing is any activity aimed at evaluating an attribute or capability of a program or system
and determining that it meets its required results. [Hetzel88] Although crucial to software quality and
widely deployed by programmers and testers, software testing still remains an art, due to limited
understanding of the principles of software. The difficulty in software testing stems from the
complexity of software: we can not completely test a program with moderate complexity. Testing is
more than just debugging. The purpose of testing can be quality assurance, verification and ... Show
more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But this alone will not guarantee to make the software better, because the Complexity Barrier
[Beizer90] principle states: Software complexity(and therefore that of bugs) grows to the limits of our
ability to manage that complexity. By eliminating the (previous) easy bugs you allowed another
escalation of features and complexity, but his time you have subtler bugs to face, just to retain the
reliability you had before. Society seems to be unwilling to limit complexity because we all want that
extra bell, whistle, and feature interaction. Thus, our users always push us to the complexity barrier
and how close we can approach that barrier is largely determined by the strength of the techniques we
can wield against ever more complex and subtle bugs. [Beizer90]
Regardless of the limitations, testing is an integral part in software development. It is broadly
deployed in every phase in the software development cycle. Typically, more than 50% percent of the
development time is spent in testing. Testing is usually performed for the following purposes: * To
improve quality.
As computers and software are used in critical applications, the outcome of a bug can be severe. Bugs
can cause huge losses. Bugs in critical systems have caused airplane crashes, allowed space shuttle
missions to go awry, halted trading on the stock market, and worse. Bugs can kill. Bugs can

President Nixon s Involvement On The Watergate Scandal Essay
To further maintain his innocence, President Nixon started creating distance between himself and
those of senior authority within his administration who could be directly linked to the Watergate

justice, burglary, wiretapping, etc, or they were resigning their positions within the administration due
to the overwhelming evidence that was appearing against them in relation to their criminal activities.
Many of President Nixon s aides were either cutting a deal in court or preparing to testify against the

  • 2. Summary Of The Movie The Bear Came Over The Mountain Stories can be told in many different ways through different forms of media ultimately trying to explain the same idea. The short story The Bear Came Over the Mountain and the movie Away from her are examples of two different ways of telling the same story trying to grasp the same ideas through different forms of media. In this essay evaluations will be made between two different forms of media using the short story The Bear Came Over the Mountain and the movie Away from Her . The evaluation will explain whether or not the film lives up to the short story based on the detail, plot and imagery. In the movie Away from her the beginning scenes start off with the past and then head into the future, then back to the past again , without explaining details that can be crucial to the story. In the beginning of the short story it begins with the explanation of the characters family foundation where it states Fiona s past Fiona lived in her parents house, in the town her and grant went to the university. Then it goes into more detail of Fiona mother and father by stating Her mother was Icelandic a powerful woman with a froth of white hair and indignant far left politics. The father was an important cardiologist, revered around the hospital but happily subservient at home, where he would listen to his wife s strange tirades with an absentminded smile. (Munro, 2013) The movie did not totally explain Fiona s mother and father only bringing up a small portion that her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Comparing The Song Of Creation And The Babylonian Creation... Creation Myth Paper In this creation myth paper, one can will be comparing The Song of Creation from the Rig Veda on page 15 in Fiero s The Humanistic Tradition, Book 1, with The Babylonian Creation myth on page 19 to 20 in Fiero s The Humanistic Tradition, Book 1. The Song of Creation from the Rig Veda on page 15 originates from India. Meanwhile The Babylonian Creation myth on page 19 to 20 originated from Babylon. The main differences between these two creation myths is that the first creation myth is based on the importance of water as the necessary requirement for the beginning of life. For example, in the Rig Veda, the creation of the world was stated to come from a watery darkness (Fiero 15). Meanwhile the second myth is more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The primary source narrates about how back then before the universe was created, there was no existence, no death or immortality (Fiero 15). It also raises questions about the creation of the universe such as What covered it? Where was it? In whose keeping? (Fiero 15). These shows the uncertainty of how the universe came to be. Meanwhile in The Babylonian Creation myth, it narrates or tells the story about not only how the universe was created, but also how the gods entered the world, how the earth came to be, as well as the creation of Babylon and humans (Fiero 19). In the first myth, the universe was created when That One which came to be enclosed in nothing, arose at last, born of the power of heat (Fiero 15). In my opinion, one canthink that back in the time, the people who created this myth believed in a geocentric view of the universe where Earth was in the center. And that that One came to be the sun which gave light to the world and allowed the prospering of plants and life. Some imagery found in this primary source were darkness wrapped in darkness , only illumined water cosmic waters, in depths unfathomed, (Fiero 15). These forms of imagery depicts or describes what the universe was like before the that One arose. The order of creation in this myth seems to be that of the One being in the empty universe before anything else and then when that One arose, he or she brought heat as well as light in the world which most likely led to the beginning of light in the world leading to life. In this creation myth, one can feel like the One is the universe or the creation because according to lines 23, it states The gods themselves are later than creation (Fiero 15). So one can feel like the universe created the gods not the other way around. In the text, life began with the arrival ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Netflix Is An International Provider Of On Demand Internet... Introduction Established in 1997, Netflix is an international provider of on demand Internet steaming media, as well as provider of DVD by mail, and makes its services available to viewers in various countries worldwide. CEO Reed Hastings took the leap of faith by stepping into unchartered territory and reinvented the way that consumers rented moves. His business model was considered to be one of the most innovative models; he took the standard way of doing business in the movie and rental industry, and turned it on its side to create a multi billion dollar company. Hastings attributed the success of Netflix to the following: target a specific niche, stay flexible, never underestimate the competition, and, there are no shortcuts. The Firm s Overall Mission/Value/Culture/Objectives Our appeal and success are built on providing the most expansive selection of DVD s; an easy way to choose movies; and fast, free delivery . This mission statement not only complimented Netflix s goals as a company, but was created to explain the value that Reed Hastings saw and believed in with the creation of Netflix. Hastings, an extremely innovative, involved and engaged leader, believed in a strong work culture, beliefs which many outsiders thought would lead to the company s demise. Employees were often given work that three to four people might have been allotted at a traditional company, and while many speculators felt that this would place an unnecessary burden on Netflix s ... • 6. How to Reduce Carbon Emissions to Comply with New UK Law... 1.0 Executive Summary Climate change has been a major topic of debate in the UK over the recent years. The need to reduce the impact of CO2 and other Green House Gases (GHG) on the environment has pushed the UK Government to enact legislations (e.g. Climate Change Act 2008) and impose strict regulations on businesses to reduce emissions. These actions have forced businesses across a wide range of industrial sectors to rethink and rework their strategies of utilising energy, transport and land in an efficient manner, which in turn has lead to innovative and at the same time simple yet effective methods to reduce carbon emissions. • 7. Fourth Amendment Essay In the late eighteenth century, after the United States of America achieved their independence from their former ruler, American leaders decided that their country was in need of a new document to rule over it. They took upon themselves the task of drafting the Constitution, which has been the supreme law since its ratification. As part of its Bill of Rights, the Fourth Amendment protects American citizens from unreasonable searches and seizures . While the internet did not exist for a couple more centuries, this right that citizens have expands and changes as society does, therefore internet protection falls under the umbrella of the Fourth Amendment. This justifies the previous claims that internet protection should be included in the penumbra of the Fourth and Fifth Amendments. A few years ago, a former employee of both the CIA and NSA, Edward Snowden, became a whistleblower as he leaked information pertaining to the illicit activities of the NSA. One of the NSA programs that Snowden informed the public on was called XKeyscore, which allowed members of the NSA to search through enormous databases of emails, online chats, and browsing histories of targets, (Business Insider). The government having the ability to investigate the internet content of ordinary citizens, in any fashion similar to that of XKeyscore, is unjust and denies American citizens their rights. The uproaring havoc of the public following the Snowden leaks reflects how Americans today, as a whole, feel about their internet content being watched by the government. Recently, the possibility of the FCC removing net neutrality concerned many citizens, afraid they were possibly going to lose their internet privileges. While this does not directly correlate to monitoring the internet, it goes to show that many Americans do not wish to have a reduction in their internet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although, the situation and the circumstances of their father s death coexist, they each have individual responses to the fatalities which are very different, and serve to highlight Hamlet s tragic flaw. When Laertes hears of his father s death, he instantly becomes caught up with thoughts of revenge. While Hamlet evaluates the consequences and outcomes of his actions, Laertes acts with no discreetness, saying, Let come what comes only I ll be revenged / Most thoroughly for my father (IV.v.138). Of the three, Fortinbras seems to be the most successful in achieving his mission, and is in fact, the only character in Hamlet who does so and remains alive. He clearly defines his goal on the outset to recover by strong of hand those forsaid lands / So by his father lost (I.i.102), and then works towards it immediately by gathering up a band of lawless resolutes (I.i.98), but is hindered when he receives rebuke from Norway . However he is not deterred and in the end, old Norway Gives him threescore thousand crowns in annual fee / And his commission to employ those soldiers (II.ii.74), and finally, is successful in embrace fortune (V.ii.378). This contrasts with Hamlet, who is easily distracted by his thoughts and emotions. His resolution to set it right (I.v.189), referring to the murder of his father, gradually weakens following the loss of all his mirth (II.ii.304), the death of Ophelia and his dialogue with Gertrude. Hamlet s tragic flaw is made even more obvious by Fortinbras success. In the end, only when he is acting out of character, furious by Laertes betrayal, Claudius underhandedness and Gertrude s death, is he finally able to succeed, at the cost of his own life. Personally, the most striking example of the difference between Fortinbras and Hamlet occurs when Fortinbras strides into the room at the end of the play to become the King of Denmark, showing the failure of the man who thinks and the success of the man who acted ... • 10. Mentally Insane Justice s Impact on the Treatment of the Mentally Insane Throughout the ages, society has debated why mental disabilities occur and how to treat those with disabilities. One big concern is serving justice when someone who is mentally ill commits a crime. As our society has learned more about mental defects, the way we treat people with them has to change. As we consider the treatment of the mentally ill across the ages, we see that justice can bring about more equitable and humane treatment. Justice plays a huge role in our daily lives, where we have to decide what everyone deserves, and not what we want to give them. St Augustine said that Justice is the second virtue, and it is the constant and permanent determination to give everyone his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Durham rule did help people with mental illness and defects plead insanity in court, but it also broadened the scope to too many people. Since the Durham rule states that an an accused is not criminally responsible if his unlawful act was the product of a mental disease or defect (Durham v. United States 1), people argued that being an alcoholic, or a drug addict was a mental defect. This means that anyone who is an alcoholic can plead insanity, and not be held responsible for their actions. Because of this, the Durham rule was never really accepted nationwide, but it is still used in New Hampshire. Even though it was not widely accepted, it brought attention to the controversial case of pleading insanity. Soon after the Durham rule was released, a group of American law students got together to try and find a better solution. They came up with the American Law Institute Test (ALI), that combined the M Naghten rule and the Irresistible impulses rule. The ALI said that the defendant is not guilty by means of insanity, if they did not know what they were doing was wrong. The ALI also says that antisocial personality disorder was not enough to deem you insane during an action. The ALI is still being used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. On Wishes By Mahmoud Darwish Refugees are not terrorists, they are often the first victims of terrorism, was once written by an anonymous author. Experiencing being a refugee in the middle east during times of war can be extremely difficult. It can be a time of finding your strength, and building the courage to fight for what you believe in. Mahmoud Darwish is the author of two poems Identity Card, and On Wishes. Darwish s village was destroyed from the war, and later became exiled after joining the political opposition. Darwish s perspective of war and having to mature faster than others are discussed throughout his two poems. Throughout Darwish s poems he used vivid emotions to express the many struggles you may run into while living life as a refugee. The first form of anger that Darwish uses to express his feeling towards being exiled is through repetition. Darwish uses repetition in his poetry as a constant reminder to himself and the reader that he is who he is, and that he is angry at the Israeli Army. He is stating that no matter what they try to do that he will still be an Arab. In the poem Identity Card, he repeats the phrase Put it on record. I am an Arab. Growing up as a refugee, the author most likely faced many difficult situations based on his country of origin. By repeating this phrase, he is acknowledging the fact that, although he is a refugee, he too is a human. In the poem On Wishes, the phrase Don t say to me, is repetitive in the story. Using the structure, diction, symbolism, and anaphora of the poem, Thomas emphasizes a universal message in Do not go gentle into that good night : Never easily submit one s life to death because life is worth fighting for.Notably, the structure of the poem is significant to the message the poem portrays. The poem is divided up into six stanzas where the first five stanzas consist of three lines and the last stanza consists of four lines. The first five stanzas tell the reader that the speaker wants someone to keep living and fight against death. However, in the last stanza, the speaker reveals to the readers that the he is referring to his father. There are four qualities of ancient Greek theatre which are the occasions for its performance, competitive element, choral element and the basis of the theatre. The earliest theatres or dramas were staged during spring to honor the god Dionysus. This festival, City Dionysia was established by the Athenian ruler named Pisistratus. The idea that women could not vote, run for office, be represented in the workplace, nor serve on juries contradicted early ideas that the American woman was a protector of the concepts of freedom and righteousness. The American suffrage movement originated from the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848 (history.com). At this convention, women alongside a few men worked to write the Declaration of Sentiments, which would start the initial idea to fight for the rights of women and provide a list of grievances in reference to the rights of women such as: voting rights, property rights, and educational rights (Snider 2016). However, women would not receive suffrage until the post Civil War era. Several leaders as well as movements would have to amalgamate over the course of several decades for the voice of women to be heard and changes to be made in accordance to law and society. The Fifteenth Amendment and Women s Rights The concept of women s suffrage was first questioned under the clauses of the Fifteenth Amendment. Under this amelioration, the denial of suffrage by the states to any citizen on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude was prohibited. Enterococcus Faecalis Research Paper Enterococcus Faecalis In 1899, Thiercelin found a new gram positive diplococcus that he named enterocoque, suggesting that he believed that this bacterium had something to do with the intestines. He also described finding this bacterium in patients who had enteritis, appendicitis and meningitis (Murray). In 1906, Andrewes and Hoarder isolated this same bacterium from a patient suffering from endocarditis and they also discovered a relationship with urinary tract infections. They named it Streptococcus faecalis, again because of similarities to the human intestinal tract (Murray). Other early 20th century instances of infection where S. faecalis has been associated but not known to be definitively causative include wound infections after World War I, osteomyelitis, ... • 37. Competitive Environment And Maintaining Customer... 1.0 Introduction In today s competitive environment, maintaining customer relationships is a key to business success because customers are considered as important strategic resources of a business. However, all business markets contain many subgroups of customers that behave differently, that have different ambitions, and have different purchasing behaviours. Hence each subgroup must be treated differently in order to build strong customer relationships. To compete with rival businesses, it is vital for a business to know enough about their customers and to know the wants and needs of the customers. Britain s largest employee owned retailer, the John Lewis Partnership owns Waitrose, a chain of British supermarkets, which comprise the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 38. Software Testing Software Testing Carnegie Mellon University 18 849b Dependable Embedded Systems Spring 1999 Authors: Jiantao Pan mailto:%20jpan@cmu.edu Abstract: Software testing is any activity aimed at evaluating an attribute or capability of a program or system and determining that it meets its required results. [Hetzel88] Although crucial to software quality and widely deployed by programmers and testers, software testing still remains an art, due to limited understanding of the principles of software. The difficulty in software testing stems from the complexity of software: we can not completely test a program with moderate complexity. Testing is more than just debugging. The purpose of testing can be quality assurance, verification and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But this alone will not guarantee to make the software better, because the Complexity Barrier [Beizer90] principle states: Software complexity(and therefore that of bugs) grows to the limits of our ability to manage that complexity. By eliminating the (previous) easy bugs you allowed another escalation of features and complexity, but his time you have subtler bugs to face, just to retain the reliability you had before. Society seems to be unwilling to limit complexity because we all want that extra bell, whistle, and feature interaction. Thus, our users always push us to the complexity barrier and how close we can approach that barrier is largely determined by the strength of the techniques we can wield against ever more complex and subtle bugs. [Beizer90] Regardless of the limitations, testing is an integral part in software development. It is broadly deployed in every phase in the software development cycle. Typically, more than 50% percent of the development time is spent in testing. Testing is usually performed for the following purposes: * To improve quality. As computers and software are used in critical applications, the outcome of a bug can be severe. Bugs can cause huge losses. Bugs in critical systems have caused airplane crashes, allowed space shuttle missions to go awry, halted trading on the stock market, and worse. Bugs can kill. Bugs can ... • 39. President Nixon s Involvement On The Watergate Scandal Essay To further maintain his innocence, President Nixon started creating distance between himself and those of senior authority within his administration who could be directly linked to the Watergate scandal. At this time, many of President Nixon s aides were either being prosecuted for obstruction of justice, burglary, wiretapping, etc, or they were resigning their positions within the administration due to the overwhelming evidence that was appearing against them in relation to their criminal activities. Many of President Nixon s aides were either cutting a deal in court or preparing to testify against the him in relation to their personal knowledge about the details of the scandal and their personal knowledge about President Nixon s involvement. The characters that will be examined were both senior politicians within the Nixon Administration as well as law enforcement agents and high ranking attorneys. They will be investigated to determine their connection to the Nixon Administration and their role in the Watergate scandal. John Ehrlichman was the policy advisor for President Nixon. He was responsible for creating the White House plumbers, which was a group of men who prevented leaks and insider information about the Nixon Administration from getting in the hands of reporters. He was a loyal and patriotic advisor, most of the time using unconventional and illegal methods to secure a victory. Ehrlichman contributed to the cover up as he was the one who told FBI Director L. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
