Foresnic Scientists Investigate Crimes by Collecing...
Forensic scientists investigate crimes by collecting and analyzing physical evidence. They specialize
in DNA analysis or firearm examination. By performing tests on weapons or on substances like fiber,
glass, hair, tissue, and body fluids forensic scientist determine the importance of the substance for a
trial. Forensic scientists prepare reports to document their findings and the laboratory techniques they
used, to give to investigators. When criminal cases come to trial, forensic scientist will give a
testimony as an expert witness on laboratory findings collected at the crime scene. Communication
between other scientists is a key part in being a successful forensic scientist. For instance, they may
consult a medical expert about the exact time and cause of a death, or another scientist who specializes
in DNA typing to match a DNA type to a suspect. Some scientist might be exposed to hazardous
chemicals, or toxic materials. But often are exposed to human body fluids and firearms. These
working conditions pose little risk only if safety procedures are followed correctly (Science Buddies,
n.d.). Forensic scientist work outside in all types or weather, but spend a majority of their time in
laboratories and offices. They work in groups with specialists and other law enforcement, but
specialist work only in laboratories. Scientist working in laboratories usually works a standard
workweek, although they may be on call outside of normal business hours if needed to work

objectives are usually contradictory each others, the optimisation of this problems enter in Decision

of the Estimation of Distribution Algorithm. A definition of the Copula theory. Presentation of the new

problem A multiobjective problem can be viewed as well and if we consider a minimisation problem
for all objectives functions: m functions to optimize and p constraints to satisfy. The main goal of all
optimisation methods is to find an optimal solution of those problems, and we should precise that a
multiobjective problem have many objectives to optimize these functions are mutually contradictory,
so to make a comparison between solution and an other one, we should describe a relation to made
this appreciation, The Pareto Dominance relation can do this. Considering a minimisation problem,
lets u and v two vectors. A solution is an Pareto optimal solution if and only if it doesn t exist an other
admissible solution x where f(x) dominate . So a solution of an Multiobjective problem is a set of
solutions which they are not dominated by any other solutions, we call this set the Pareto front 2

The End of Easy Everything
One of the major issues in global affairs today consists of the supply of energy and other minerals and
commodities. Michael Klare in The End of Easy Everything argues that the transformation from an
effortless to a more resilient resource period will be expensive. Looking at the state of the supply of
energy oil and natural gas today, I tend to agree with the findings as presented by Michael Klare.
Klare explores contentious issues in which easily obtained supplies are terminating. Particularly,
companies that deal in such resources must turn to the more difficult methods to extract sources of oil,
natural gas, and various minerals. This has led to controversial methods such as deep water oil wells,
hydrofracking for natural gas and other energy sources. Also, the acid fracking for copper: which
some environmentalists maintain that these methods cause environmental damage and should not be
permitted.
Klare argues that discovery of a natural resource, for instance, oil, result to producers seeking and
exploiting the most desirable, best quality and those closest to markets. Over time, these resources
become scarce, of poorer quality, harder to extract and extend into the further away area from the
market hence need for discovery of other means of obtaining the resource. These means may cause
several problems, which may include;

Power Of Music Essay
Music has been around for a very long time. Music has a way of influencing each and every one of us
to do things we don t even realize we are doing. There is a big difference between the power of music
and the influence it has on today s society. The world today is not anywhere near perfect, but music is
there to take away the pain. On the other hand, the power of music is endless. It has the power to make
a grown man break down crying or a heartbroken widow smile. It has a way of letting someone who is
hurting inside let out their feelings for the world to hear and be there for them. There is no end to the
power of music, but music cannot fix everything. Bob Marley once said, One good thing about music.
When it hits you. You feel no pain. The world today is filled with so much hate and sorrow, and music
has a way of reaching those who are down in life. Music has endless ways to inspire and cheer up
anyone. The lyrics of a song are a poem that tells a story whether it be a love song or a rap song. If
everyone would take the time of day to listen to the lyrics they would understand and feel the music
on a whole other level. Although if someone is feeling blue, a rap song probably isn t the one for them.
The melody or the instrumental part of the song is mind blowing. Take out the words and there is just
pure music. It can put someone in a trance of just pure imagination. As Elton John once said, Music
has healing power. It has the ability to take people out of

The Process Of Meiosis And Mitosis
In order to better understand the process of meiosis and mitosis, students observed different types of
asci. The arrangement of spores was associated to whether crossing over occurred during meiosis 1.
We tried observing asci, from the mating plate that we did last lab, with a light microscope. However,
the class was unsuccessful and were told to look for images of asci on google images and use these
observations as our data. The observations obtained from google images, showed that 27 observations
were made for asci of type 4:4, 19 for asci type 2:2:2:2 and 14 for asci of type 2:4:2 (Table IB 1). With
these observations, we determined the map distance which was 27.5 map units (Figure 5.4). Since asci
of type 4:4 were observed more, crossing over occurred less, thus producing less asci with different
arrangements. Sordaria also undergo mitosis because the end result of meiosis are four haploid cells
and haploid cells cannot divide by meiosis. Lastly, since more asci with type 4:4 were observed, the
hypothesis was supported more black ascus were also observed which supported the second
hypothesis. Although students were not successful in observing asci during the lab, students were still
able to understand the importance of meiosis and relate it to real life issues. INTRODUCTION
Meiosis is a two part cell division (meiosis 1 and meiosis 2) process that produces four daughter cells,
each having half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell such as the product of

drawbacks related with entrepreneurship. These are discussed in detail below
1) Income Uncertainty Until the venture is solidly placed, there is no kind of certainty to the income

business owners is $30,000, which is about the same as wage and salary workers. Contrast between
the normal wages at posts with the ability of the entrepreneur will be compared with the income from
the entrepreneurship and it often causes a sense of losing out money. The energy that needs to be put

which often reasons the entrepreneurs to lose interest in their venture and therefore intends to move

Being A Waste Of Your Time
No relationship is ever a waste of your time. If it didn t bring what you want, it taught you what you
don t want. There are certain people out there who contribute and mold our personality to construct
who we are. We tend to form relationships with those people, and to fit in we tend to want to be like
them. What, of This Goldfish, Would You Wish , A Visit to Grandmother s , and our two personal
experiences support the very idea that relationships with others define who we are and how we behave
as individuals.
What, of This Goldfish, Would You Wish , is set in the eyes of Sergei Goralick. Based on the story,
you can infer that Sergei is an introvert, he s caring, and most of all he s protective of himself. His
personality tends to get in the way of how he treats others, however he can be seen as a caring man
with a warm heart as well. Sergei Goralick doesn t much like strangers banging on his door. Especially
when those strangers are asking him questions. In the story, he talks about how when he was younger
and lived in Russia with his parents, he detested the people who would come knocking at his door all
the time. Other than that minor flaw of his, you can see that Sergei is a sweet and selfless person. For
his second wish he wished for Sveta s boy to get better from a brain tumor doctors had found but a
few months later she ended up leaving him. In his heart, Sergei kept telling himself it wasn t for Sveta
that he d done it, that he d wished that wish purely

Managing Friendships Can Be A Complicated Process
Managing friendships can be a complicated process as it is a multifaceted topic with various needs
depending on the relationship you are dealing with. Many people are shy or diffident in their abilities
when it comes to social networks and do not know where to start when interacting with others. There
are plenty of guides and words of advice that focus on romantic relationships and being a better
partner, but what is often left out is how to be a better friend. Even looking within friendships, though,
there are various, complex aspects of it, ranging from the degree of similarity between two people to
the extent of honesty and trust between them. But what these facets are rooted upon is expression how
to express these similarities, how to convey trust and loyalty, how to reveal appreciation, and so on. In
a sense, then, the foundation of friendship is communication. As a result, this guide will focus on the
nuanced aspects of communication in order to facilitate strong friendships. Delving into this sphere
and explaining the critical, applicable research on communication will help you decipher strong
communication tactics versus types of communication that can break friendships. The beginning part
of this guide will cover the main ways of self disclosing, or sharing information and feelings with
others, because this is often how close friendships start. Looking into why self disclosing is beneficial
and then exploring the research on being on the receiving end of

The Military Sector Of The Marine Corps
We are losing some of our best Machinists and Welders after their first enlistment due to the lucrative
options available in the civilian sector and the lack of opportunities to display their innovative nature
in the Marine Corps. An additive and subtractive fabricator in the trenches would serve to be an asset
to commanders, because he/she will not be limited by technology or lack of expertise. Both of these
specialties present an opportunity to exploit manufacturing capabilities. After all, exploitation is a
human endeavor and until unmanned technologies take over completely, is it not the Marines using the
technologies that are the assets? In the civilian sector, experience is often necessary in most fields;
however, machining and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, the opportunities to exploit machining and welding capabilities disappear along with the
opportunities to pass down their knowledge and skills through guidance and mentoring. Interestingly
enough the current manpower structure places these two MOS side by side in every ESB,
Maintenance battalion and Ground Ordnance Vehicle Battalions. In an effort to challenge the status
quo and to continue on with the Commandant guidance; what benefits could arise if these two
specialties are aligned together and be allowed to merge at the fifteen year mark?
These two specialties share similar skills in terms of fabrication and metallurgy, including a thorough
understanding of the physical and mechanical properties of metals. They both have a strong
understanding of structural design and manufacturing regardless of material. And one particular aspect
that is often overlooked is the ability to be critical thinkers, as this is inherent with artistic creation
(White, Robinson 2001). Additionally, all the processes used in machining and welding require a level
of critical thinking and creativity in order to maximize efforts and resources. The current employment
of these two specialties is minimal while in garrison; however, while forward deployed, these
specialties become an integral part of combat innovation. Their creativity and ingenuity have made a
significant impact in the

Abstract
Hamilton (Albert) Fish (1870 1936) was an American serial killer, child rapist, and cannibal. He was
known as the gray man, the werewolf of wisteria, the Brooklyn vampire, the moon maniac, and the
boogey man. Albert (born Hamilton) Fish came from a family seemingly stricken by mental illness,
with six close relative in mental hospitals. At the age nine his father died, and Fish was sent to an
orphanage. At that point Fish experienced bullying, and whippings from caretakers. It wasn t until
three years later that his mother took on a government job and was able to take him back. He began a
relationship with another boy, where he was introduced to urine drinking and feces eating. In 1890 he
moved to New York, where he became a prostitute and began raping young boys. At some point he
became interested in penises themselves and began sexual mutilations. In 1917 Fish s wife ... Show

Fish implied the man was mentally disabled. Ultimately, Kedden was taken by Fish to an abandoned
farmhouse, where Fish began a two week process of torturing him, eventually cutting off half the man
s penis and killing him. Afraid of somebody smelling it, if he took the body with him, cut into pieces.
In 1917 Fish s wife left him for a young handyman, taking nearly everything they owned, except for
their six children. Soon after Fish began having auditory hallucinations. At this time Fish began asking
his children and their friends to use a board to spank him, along with self harming himself using
needles, planting them in his abdomen and groin. After his death, needles were found in his pelvic and
groin region by

Break A Leg Identity
A Mysterious Identity and Dark Humor Maintain Suspense in Break A Leg
By: Emma Morgan
Jesse Shamata s Break A Leg, which focuses on a hitman discussing his life philosophy with an
unknown subject, creates and sustains suspense through the combination of a hidden identity and dark
humor.
Concealing the identity of the person sitting with the main character a hitman is what makes this short
film particularly unique and intriguing. It s not often that a film leaves the viewer wondering who the
protagonist is talking to until its last few minutes. This technique builds suspense because the viewer
doesn t know what the hitman s intentions are in talking to this person, if this person will be harmed
by the end of the film, or even what this person looks like.
The extreme close ups of the hitman as he talks about harming people also add to this suspense
because they prevent the viewer from seeing much of the hitman s surroundings at the beginning of
the film. Instead, the viewer is forced to focus on the hitman s hardened appearance and his rough
voice. However, there are some shots of other characters reacting to what the hitman is saying ... Show

The viewer wonders why the hitman is going through the trouble of explaining his craft if his goal is
simply to injure or kill the person with whom he is talking. It seems especially odd that the hitman
would go on an extended tangent about being able to tell if a person is a folder or a crumpler. (This is
in reference to how a person uses toilet paper.) He relates this back to how much control people want
to have in their lives and how this affects them. This sequence, in particular, utilizes a dark sense of
humor. It forces the viewer to laugh at the absurdity of this conversation about bathroom habits, while
they remain frightened for whomever the hitman is telling this

Jerzy Kosinski Jerzy Kosinski was born in Poland in 1933 to Russian parents who had fled the
revolution. He was separated from his family when the Nazis invaded in 1939. For six years he
wandered form village to village scorned by East European gypsies who feared his hawk like face and
penetrating eyes. He survived German terror by his wits and he was struck dumb from the shock that
he underwent from this six year period of wandering. He was mute from age nine to fourteen.(New

Both men were without a traceable past. No one really knows about Kosinski s experiences during the
Second World War or much about any of his pre American life. Many believe that his accounts of his
childhood are untrue and he made them up for entertainment purposes. The same is true with Chance.
Chance is simply a gardener. No one knows where he was born or who his were or anything about
him. Chance himself doesn t even know where he was from. All he remembers is the old man,
working in the garden and watching television. Both Chance and Kosinski lived on a tight rope and
every minute there was the threat of falling. Chance was not even close to the person he was thought
to be. Throughout the whole book the reader is anxious and scared for Chance for there is a fear that at
any minute, someone will find out who chance is and everything will be ruined. Kosinski went
through his whole life with the fear that the reader feels for chance. Starting with Kosinski s
childhood, his life was full of lies. When Kosinski was young, he lied to the Nazis and everyone else
who he encountered. He had to hide his Jewish identity and was always afraid of being exposed.
When he was older, many believe Kosinski plagiarized other s works and required his assistants to
sign false releases for him. He was also a pathological liar. Because of these things, he was at risk of
being exposed just like he had been in his childhood. (JK; pg. 319 329) The

Why Is Consistency Important For Children
In the answers to this topic, there are benefits for you and your children.
Benefits for your Children:
Stability. This is the #1 benefit for your children. The stability of knowing that you are there. You are
able to answer questions, fix boo boos, dry tears and offer support. Your children need you. A lot!
Consistency. Your children can rely on you. They can rely on the consistency of the way you run your
household. You are consistent with mealtimes, baths and bedtimes, organization, chores and
discipline. Children need this consistency. Consistency is what gives them routine in their lives. We all

You know that no matter what...you have a job. You don t have to worry about getting laid off or

own schedule. Consistency. This runs along side of stability. You are in charge! You don t have to

The Fear Of Public Speaking
I ve always felt that public speaking is something that has come pretty natural to me. It was
throughout high school and again in college that I realize not everyone felt the same way. I found that
many people often dread public speaking. In college, it was really exemplified this first semester when
I heard that many people had to take a course called Communications 103, which primarily focuses on
writing and giving speeches. It didn t take this course this semester, so all I knew about it was what I
had heard through my peers. Some had a similar outlook on public speaking and said they didn t mind
having to give speeches, but others nearly had panic attacks leading up to them. It was this mixed
opinion on speeches that made me question why this happens, if there is a way to alleviate the fear,
and if a fear of public speaking is an actually thing.
In Ellysa Gonzalez s journal article Professional Speaker to Give Lecture at Tech about Public
Speaking , she explains how public speaking anxiety or the fear of public speaking, is a real thing. In
trying to explain how exactly this fear exists, Gonzalez explains it is partly because of the human need
to feel accepted . In the journal Gonzalez explains that this fear s technical name is glossophobia . It is
also among the top five most common fears (Gonzalez). After identifying that this is an actual fear
driven by the possibility of one not being accepted by those around them. Gonzalez s article goes on to

Comparing Cyrus The Great Of The Persian Empire And...
Paper #2 The Ancient Roman Poet, Virgil, once wrote, They can conquer who believe they can. King
Cyrus the Great of the Persian Empire and Emperor Caesar Augustus of the Roman Republic/Empire
are leaders whose conviction in their rights to power establish the unwavering support of the people
they lead. King Cyrus the Great rises to the throne of an expansive Persian Empire. As King, he brings
virtually the entire Near East under his control. In 539, claiming to be under the divine right the
Babylonian God Marduk, peacefully conquers Babylon and drives out Nabonidus, the last of the Neo
Babylonian kings. Cyrus the Great produces a clay cylinder denouncing Nabonidus as an impious
oppressor of the people of Babylonia, and of low born origins, making him lesser than Cyrus s kingly
heritage. Cyrus portrays himself as having been chosen by the chief Babylonian God Marduk to
restore peace and order to the Babylonians. It concludes with a description of how Cyrus repairs the
city wall of Babylon and leaves his cylindrical legacy beneath the wall forever. The Res Gestae Divi
Augusti is an autobiography of the achievements of Octavian, who is later named Augustus by the
Senate, during his reign from 44 BC to 13 CE. Following his death, this text is displayed in front of
his Mausoleum and copies are distributed to Roman provinces throughout the empire. The
achievements listed by Augustus provide an insight into the thoughts and beliefs of ancient Romans

Wisdom In Siddhartha
As one matures through life he gets wiser and more knowledgeable. As Siddhartha s long life journey
was coming to a close, he too was becoming wiser and more knowledgeable. Siddhartha learned that
if you search your whole life for wisdom you will miss many steps along the way. Siddhartha s
revelation between the difference of wisdom and knowledge corresponds with his other discovery
which is the difference between finding and seeking. This has been the guide for his way of life. These
differences he has discovered are the main reasons for having several teachers and a radical lifestyle.
Furthermore, this revelation has made a distinct separation between Siddhartha and Govinda. It

Govinda, who has spent time with both the Illustrious One and Siddhartha, thought his teachings were
strange saying, His ideas may be strange, his words may sound foolish, but his glance and his hand,
his skin and his hair, all radiate a purity, peace, serenity, gentleness and saintliness which I have never
seen in any man since the recent death of our illustrious teacher (148). This shows even though
Govinda thinks Siddhartha methods are strange compared to Gautama, he believes Siddhartha has
without a doubt reached enlightenment. Siddhartha believes Gautama had only taught Govinda to be
knowledgeable, while he himself has become wise. This is because the Illustrious one only taught
Govinda how to seek which should be the destination and not what you learn on your journey. This is
just one of many examples where Siddhartha and the Illustrious One disagreed. Others were love, and
the belief in Nirvana. Siddhartha thought love was the most important belief while Gautama thought
this was a great sin and when Govinda heard Siddhartha s proclamation he said, He forbade us to bind
ourselves to earthly love (147). Furthermore, Siddhartha thought Nirvana and Samsara were not real.

Edgar Allan poe is one of the most incredible gothic writers, with a library of many famous works. He
is famous for his dark and ominous way of narrating, as well as his brutal and obscure endings to his
tales. Arguably his most famous works are the poem entitled The Raven published January 29th 1845,
and his short story The Tell Tale Heart published a few years earlier on January 1843. Both of these
pieces of literature pulled the listener directly into Poe s mysterious world, with suspense and intensity
in every line. The Raven and The Tale Heart written by Edgar Allan Poe both develop the gothic
theme of madness by using dark imagery, similar symbolism, and torment.
The Raven follows a man who is tormented by a large raven on top of his chamber door. He recently
lost his lover Lenore, and he believes that this Raven is in his chamber is taunting him, and making
light of his lost love. As the story progresses the narrator starts to drift further and further from sanity
until he can no longer understand the events that are taking place. The Tell Tale Heart the main
character is also driven to madness, but in this case it is by a mysterious eye, to the point where he
must commit murder in order to feel at peace. However this is not the end of this tale. The police
arrive at his house to question him, and just as he was almost in the clear the beating of a heart causes
him to expose the hiding place of the

The Current Great Recession
In the midst of the current economic downturn, dubbed the Great Recession , it is natural to look for
one, singular entity or person to blame. Managers of large banks, professional investors and federal
regulators have all been named as potential creators of the recession, with varying degrees of guilt. No
matter who is to blame, the fallout from the mistakes that were made that led to the current crisis is
clear. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the current unemployment rate is 9.7%, with 9.3
million Americans out of work (Bureau of Labor Statistics). Compared to a normal economic rate of
two or three percent, it is clear that the decisions of one group of people have had a profound affect on
the lives of millions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the lead up to the current recession, when the real estate market began to fall, there were so many
investors shorting stocks and securitized mortgage packages that were already falling, that the market
simply fell further. There were no buyers at the bottom, and the professional investors made millions
off of the losses of others. Beyond this, there was no real federal regulation for securitized mortgages,
since there was no real way to gauge the mathematical risk of any given package. This allowed the
investors to take advantage of the system and to short loans on real people s homes. Once these
securities were worthless, many of the homebuyer s defaulted on their mortgages and were left
penniless. No matter from which angle this crisis is looked at, the blame rests squarely with the
managers who began the entire cycle, the ones who pursued the securitization of mortgages. Their
incompetence not only led to the losses of Americans who have never invested in the stock market,
but to losses for their shareholders. These losses necessitated governmental action in the financial
markets. Companies such as Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns lost all of their stock s value and were
forced into bankruptcy. This risk spread throughout the American banks, forcing the American
government to step in and buy all of the securitized, troubled assets from the balance sheets of

Popular Mechanics Carver
Review of the story Popular Mechanics by Raymon Carver. Raymond Carver creates an atmosphere of
unresolved uncertainty that becomes menacing as the story draws to a conclusion. Carver s method is
to leave out details in the course of dialogue, revealing very little despite the heightened sensitivity for
meaning that the characters display. (Powell, 1994.Absract, p.1) Carver starts the story with a very
significant sentence the weather turned and the snow was melting into dirty water ( Carver,1981. p.1 ),
which makes the reader understand that the story will develop from something positive to negative.
Snow is often considered a pure element and refers to a quite situation. The dirty water, at the contrary
represents the conflict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Raymond Carver uses ordinary language to expose the inability of communicating the reality of
experience through purely referential language. He has been criticized for being a minimalist writer.
Underneath the obviousness of his language, he subverts the simplistic equation of words to meaning.
( Trussler, 1994, p.1 ) Is the evidence relevant? How do I know? The evidence is relevant because it
has been retrieved from the UoPeople Library which provides access to quality resources to support
the academic program of the Univerisity ( Library services, n.d) Have I heard/read anything similar or
dissimilar? What was it? I have never read a similar story, but it has been very interesting. I got a few
information about the author s life and writing style in order to better understand the story, its meaning
and its message. Do I agree or disagree with the views expressed by the author? Why? The author
gives to readers the possibility to have their own point of view, but I think I have catched the feelings
that Carver wants to transmit , which are anger and danger. It follows that I agree with the views
expressed by the author.

Write a paragraph explaining your views on the event of November 16, 1532. What strikes you the
most about this event? Why did Pizarro succeed?
On November 16, 1532 Francisco Pizarro conquered over the Incan emperor Atahualpa. Spaniards
massacre tens of thousands of Indians. At this time the use of steel swords were very beneficial,
because the Spaniards had them where the Incans did not. I believe that the victory of this invasion
was based off of the more advanced ethnic group, because the Spaniards had the more advanced
weapons and technology. This victory is a shock to me, because the Spaniards were un aware of the
terrain and the Incans has the home field advantage. The reason Pizarro succeeded was he had
originally gained the trust of Atahualpa and then captured him and used his advanced weaponry to
conquer the Incans

Q1. How structurally attractive is the Russian ice cream market? Discuss how its industry structure
can be made more attractive? (663 words)
The political and financial instability had greatly impacted Russian ice cream industry. The financial
crisis in 1998 and the devaluation of the ruble had greatly reduced Russian market s consumption
ability. It also increased the production cost of Russian ice cream producers who relied on external
market for raw materials. The shrinkage of frozen import market heavily impacted by the financial
crisis forced the wholesales entered the ice cream market, which intensified the competition in the

They would further squeeze the profit margin of producers. Therefore a lower cost would guarantee
better profit margin. Since consumption in this segment had a strong seasonality, the ability to recoup
the cost of extra producing capacity would be necessary to reduce the cost.
Family consumption segment was relative small, but it was the most promising. Compared with
impulsive consumption segment, it had less seasonality since ice cream was eaten in the warm houses
in winter, which reduced the demand to producing capacity. Shelf space in the super market was
crucial to succeed in this segment. To get this valuable resource, two measures should be adopted.
Firstly, building a close relationship with supermarket was a necessity. This cooperation would
guarantee the shelf space. A strong brand with strong customer preference would pull the demand and
increase the bargaining power with supermarket. Secondly, a special package and longer quality
guarantee period was necessary as well. If the products could be kept long, supermarket would have to
discount the product as the deadline approaching.
Café and restaurant consumption segment was the most lucrative and most demanding segment.
Alignment between the products and lifestyle was the basis in this segment. A high quality product
without a prestige brand could not survive in this segment. Therefore heavy investment on adverting

Dances With Wolves Similarities
History Through Film Compare and Contrast Essay
Over the past nine weeks, we have watched three movies. The two movies that stood out were Dances
with Wolves and Tombstone. Dances with Wolves was released in 1990 by director Kevin Costner and
tells the story of a white army man bonding with the Sioux Indians. Tombstone was released in 1993
by directors George P. Cosmatos and Kevin Jarre and tells the story of Wyatt Earp´s time as officer in
Tombstone. Both movies have many similarities and differences. Some similarities and differences
can be found in the setting, events, characters traits, and directors style.
Dances with wolves takes place in the 1860´s of Colorado. However, the film was shot in North

Tombstone takes place in the 1880´s of a small town in Cochise County, Arizona. The film was also

The retention of the Emperor was crucial to the surrender, as the Japanese believed their Emperor was
a god, the heart of the people and the culture (Long). This Japanese belief is a part of a tradition that
dates back to 660 B.C. when the first Japanese Emperor, Jimmu, who according to legend was a
descendant of the sun god, Amaterasu. So there fore, according to the tradition, the emperor during
this time, Hirohito, was said to be a divine being. It is for this reason that the Japanese sued for peace
based on the Atlantic Charter of 1941 that was drafted up by Roosevelt and Churchill on August 4th,
1941. According to the Atlantic Charter, every nation could choose its own form of government, thus,
if Japan were to surrender based on these terms, they would be able to retain the emperor, their God
(Alperovitz). However, when the United States offered a peace agreement based on Unconditional
Surrender, the Japanese refused this offer as no provisions had been made for their Emperor. As Leon
V. Sigal states,
...one point was clear to senior [United States] officials, regardless of where they stood on war
termination... the critical condition for Japanese surrender was the assurance that the throne would be
preserved
(Alperovitz 31).
It turns out that the unconditional surrender clause of the peace agreement was the major factor that
hindered Japanese surrender at this point in the war.

Essay about Socrates Views on Virtue and Happiness
There are certain truths of the world that cannot be ignored or overlooked. Many philosophers have
spent countless years discussing, debating and evaluating such truths. One such influential philosopher
is Socrates. Born in Athens in 469 B.C.E, he spent most of his time at the marketplace and other
public places engaging in dialogues about truths of life. Among many other things, he discussed virtue
and happiness and how closely they are related. According to Socrates, virtue is absolutely necessary
for perfect happiness because virtue brings a type of happiness that other things could never bring. In
this paper, I will explain the aforementioned idea of Socrates on virtue and happiness and through
evidence from Plato s Apology which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea of goodness and virtue goes anything beyond worldly values and ideals. A good man cannot
be harmed either in life or in death (41d), says Socrates further explaining that no matter what, a better
man [cannot] be harmed by a worse (30d). Having virtue gives you a certain happiness that is well
beyond life or death or worldly values and goods. So, how exactly does a person become virtuous?
Socrates offers suggestions and explanation for this question as well. Socrates claims that one cannot
be virtuous accidentally. Just because you commit a virtuous act does not make you virtuous. An
understanding of the concept of virtue is equally important as the virtuous act itself. One needs to
understand the nature of virtue which requires reflection of virtue and this reflection is only possible
once you grasp your own ignorance about the nature of virtue. This understanding of one s own
ignorance is human wisdom. So, since being perfectly happy requires being virtuous and being
virtuous requires human wisdom, human wisdom is necessary for perfect happiness. So as a person
begins to acquire human wisdom which is merely an understanding and acknowledgment of one s own
ignorance, they are on their road to acquiring perfect happiness. So what happens to people who
cannot acquire human wisdom and in turn cannot be virtuous? Are they denied happiness

Tragedies While Climbing Mount Everest Are Caused by Human Error
Especially in terrible weather, every second counts while nearing the top of Mount Everest on an

thousands of feet into a deep crevasse. Turning an oxygen level the wrong way may leave the air non

Other physical errors involved the precious resource of oxygen atop the mountain. In one instance,
guide Andy Harris refused to believe that a portion of the oxygen canisters stored at the South Summit
contained oxygen, often reporting There s no oxygen here! (qtd. in ITA, 195) After research and tests
other climbers deduced that there was in fact a supply of oxygen just below the top of the mountain
where Harris stood. The misunderstanding by Harris was likely caused by a faulty oxygen register, but
his unwillingness to believe his own tests were wrong confused many struggling climbers. Harris
caused additional trouble while descending the mountain; he turned Jon Krakauer s oxygen level in
the wrong direction on his tank. This caused Krakauer to have a sudden surge of pure oxygen followed
by his canister running out of the gas. The mistakes by Harris and Krakauer caused Krakauer s
schedule of receiving oxygen to be thrown off balance, causing his descent to be severely tougher than
expected.
Climbers neglect of their own physical limitations also caused grief during the climb and descent. The
harsh winds and temperatures of the high altitudes unexpectedly tortured Beck Weathers, who had
undergone eye surgery months before the climb. The conditions caused Beck to lose almost all of his
vision, which obviously impacted his attempt at descending the mountain. If Beck had taken

Thomas Hill Ideals Of Human Excellence And Preserving...
In Ideals of Human Excellence and Preserving Natural Environments , Thomas Hill explores the idea
that those who would destroy natural environments may lack necessary human virtues. He lays out
this idea through these claims:
1. A person who views non sentient nature as a resource may be clouded by self importance.
The idea here Hill highlights as one of perspective the inability to see oneself as part of nature. This
ties in with his next claim.
2. A person who would harm natural environments may lack humility by avoiding seeing himself as
one among many natural creatures.
Hill would make a distinction here from just perspective to one of attitude, if one sees themselves as
part of nature and yet would still destroy it then they are making the value judgment that humans are

There have been numerous laws in the past that have enforced discrimination. One example are the
Jim Crow laws in the south that prevented blacks from obtaining equality in society for about 100
years. Affirmative action of the courts and prison systems which discriminates against Blacks and
Hispanics, gives them 20% longer sentences, targets their neighborhoods, racially profiles, weakens
minority neighborhoods electorally, created the culture of fatherless homes as a reaction to the Civil

The Oompa Loompas In Charlie And The Chocolate Factory
Roald Dahl was a British author, who wrote short stories, poems and screenplays. His books have sold
more than 250 million copies worldwide (www.roalddahl.com). His most famous book was the first
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book which was published in 1964. This book got a lot of negative
feedback not based on the storyline, but based on certain characters in the book. This book focuses on
golden tickets and there are only five, one of them being found by a character named Charlie, who
happens to be poor. The owner, Willy Wonka leads the five winning children on a delightful and
frequently dangerous journey of his factory and only one child wins the big prize which in this case, is
his factory. However, within the factory there are workers called Oompa Loopmas, who are depicted
as black Pygmy people from Africa (Dahl 73). In the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, in
1971, by Mel Stuart the Oompa Loompas are shown as dwarfs with orange skin. Last but not least in
the 2005 film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tim Burton depicts the Oompa Loompas as brown
skin people. Throughout all three different versions of the one story the depictions of the Oompa
Loompas skin color changes, but the power dynamics between Willy Wonka, owner, and the Oompa
Loompa stays the same and that confirms that they are slave workers especially within the 1964 book.

In the end, Tiresias explains that Oedipus is to blame for Laius s death, for he is the murderer. Oedipus
naturally denies the claim and accuses Creon and Tiresias of conspiring against him, so that Creon can

He sends for him, and upon arrival the shepherd was timid to reveal the truth. Oedipus responded by
calling to the guards, Twist his arm back, quickly! (line 1269) In the end of this scene Jocasta, wife of
Oedipus, realizes the truth behind who her husband really is, and that the prophecy had been fulfilled
and runs away. Oedipus then continues to question the shepherd further because he still fails to see
what is right in front of him. This brings the audience to the third and fourth characteristics of
Aristotle s tragic hero: the reversal of fortune and the recognition that it was self inflicted. In a rush of
realization, Oedipus sees the truth that was in front of him and the audience throughout entire play.
Oedipus, in utter agony, cries out and starts cursing the shepherd who had freed his ankles as a child.

Hilton GLBAFF 301 OL Bernard Hilton Robert Weiner February 20, 2016 UMS ID: 00762747 The End of Easy Everything One of the major issues in global affairs today consists of the supply of energy and other minerals and commodities. Michael Klare in The End of Easy Everything argues that the transformation from an effortless to a more resilient resource period will be expensive. Looking at the state of the supply of energy oil and natural gas today, I tend to agree with the findings as presented by Michael Klare. Klare explores contentious issues in which easily obtained supplies are terminating. Particularly, companies that deal in such resources must turn to the more difficult methods to extract sources of oil, natural gas, and various minerals. This has led to controversial methods such as deep water oil wells, hydrofracking for natural gas and other energy sources. Also, the acid fracking for copper: which some environmentalists maintain that these methods cause environmental damage and should not be permitted. Klare argues that discovery of a natural resource, for instance, oil, result to producers seeking and exploiting the most desirable, best quality and those closest to markets. Over time, these resources become scarce, of poorer quality, harder to extract and extend into the further away area from the market hence need for discovery of other means of obtaining the resource. • 7. Power Of Music Essay Music has been around for a very long time. Music has a way of influencing each and every one of us to do things we don t even realize we are doing. There is a big difference between the power of music and the influence it has on today s society. The world today is not anywhere near perfect, but music is there to take away the pain. On the other hand, the power of music is endless. It has the power to make a grown man break down crying or a heartbroken widow smile. It has a way of letting someone who is hurting inside let out their feelings for the world to hear and be there for them. There is no end to the power of music, but music cannot fix everything. Bob Marley once said, One good thing about music. When it hits you. You feel no pain. The world today is filled with so much hate and sorrow, and music has a way of reaching those who are down in life. Music has endless ways to inspire and cheer up anyone. The lyrics of a song are a poem that tells a story whether it be a love song or a rap song. If everyone would take the time of day to listen to the lyrics they would understand and feel the music on a whole other level. Although if someone is feeling blue, a rap song probably isn t the one for them. The melody or the instrumental part of the song is mind blowing. Take out the words and there is just pure music. It can put someone in a trance of just pure imagination. As Elton John once said, Music has healing power. It has the ability to take people out of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Process Of Meiosis And Mitosis In order to better understand the process of meiosis and mitosis, students observed different types of asci. The arrangement of spores was associated to whether crossing over occurred during meiosis 1. We tried observing asci, from the mating plate that we did last lab, with a light microscope. However, the class was unsuccessful and were told to look for images of asci on google images and use these observations as our data. The observations obtained from google images, showed that 27 observations were made for asci of type 4:4, 19 for asci type 2:2:2:2 and 14 for asci of type 2:4:2 (Table IB 1). With these observations, we determined the map distance which was 27.5 map units (Figure 5.4). Since asci of type 4:4 were observed more, crossing over occurred less, thus producing less asci with different arrangements. Sordaria also undergo mitosis because the end result of meiosis are four haploid cells and haploid cells cannot divide by meiosis. Lastly, since more asci with type 4:4 were observed, the hypothesis was supported more black ascus were also observed which supported the second hypothesis. Although students were not successful in observing asci during the lab, students were still able to understand the importance of meiosis and relate it to real life issues. INTRODUCTION Meiosis is a two part cell division (meiosis 1 and meiosis 2) process that produces four daughter cells, each having half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell such as the product of ... Break A Leg Identity A Mysterious Identity and Dark Humor Maintain Suspense in Break A Leg By: Emma Morgan Jesse Shamata s Break A Leg, which focuses on a hitman discussing his life philosophy with an unknown subject, creates and sustains suspense through the combination of a hidden identity and dark humor. Concealing the identity of the person sitting with the main character a hitman is what makes this short film particularly unique and intriguing. It s not often that a film leaves the viewer wondering who the protagonist is talking to until its last few minutes. This technique builds suspense because the viewer doesn t know what the hitman s intentions are in talking to this person, if this person will be harmed by the end of the film, or even what this person looks like. The extreme close ups of the hitman as he talks about harming people also add to this suspense because they prevent the viewer from seeing much of the hitman s surroundings at the beginning of the film. He relates this back to how much control people want to have in their lives and how this affects them. This sequence, in particular, utilizes a dark sense of humor. It was throughout high school and again in college that I realize not everyone felt the same way. I found that many people often dread public speaking. In college, it was really exemplified this first semester when I heard that many people had to take a course called Communications 103, which primarily focuses on writing and giving speeches. It didn t take this course this semester, so all I knew about it was what I had heard through my peers. Some had a similar outlook on public speaking and said they didn t mind having to give speeches, but others nearly had panic attacks leading up to them. It was this mixed opinion on speeches that made me question why this happens, if there is a way to alleviate the fear, and if a fear of public speaking is an actually thing. In Ellysa Gonzalez s journal article Professional Speaker to Give Lecture at Tech about Public Speaking , she explains how public speaking anxiety or the fear of public speaking, is a real thing. In trying to explain how exactly this fear exists, Gonzalez explains it is partly because of the human need to feel accepted . There were no buyers at the bottom, and the professional investors made millions off of the losses of others. Beyond this, there was no real federal regulation for securitized mortgages, since there was no real way to gauge the mathematical risk of any given package. This allowed the investors to take advantage of the system and to short loans on real people s homes. Once these securities were worthless, many of the homebuyer s defaulted on their mortgages and were left penniless. No matter from which angle this crisis is looked at, the blame rests squarely with the managers who began the entire cycle, the ones who pursued the securitization of mortgages. Their incompetence not only led to the losses of Americans who have never invested in the stock market, but to losses for their shareholders. These losses necessitated governmental action in the financial markets. Companies such as Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns lost all of their stock s value and were forced into bankruptcy. At this time the use of steel swords were very beneficial, because the Spaniards had them where the Incans did not. Compared with impulsive consumption segment, it had less seasonality since ice cream was eaten in the warm houses in winter, which reduced the demand to producing capacity. Shelf space in the super market was crucial to succeed in this segment. To get this valuable resource, two measures should be adopted. Firstly, building a close relationship with supermarket was a necessity. This cooperation would guarantee the shelf space. A strong brand with strong customer preference would pull the demand and increase the bargaining power with supermarket. Secondly, a special package and longer quality guarantee period was necessary as well. If the products could be kept long, supermarket would have to discount the product as the deadline approaching. So there fore, according to the tradition, the emperor during this time, Hirohito, was said to be a divine being. It is for this reason that the Japanese sued for peace based on the Atlantic Charter of 1941 that was drafted up by Roosevelt and Churchill on August 4th, 1941. According to the Atlantic Charter, every nation could choose its own form of government, thus, if Japan were to surrender based on these terms, they would be able to retain the emperor, their God (Alperovitz). However, when the United States offered a peace agreement based on Unconditional Surrender, the Japanese refused this offer as no provisions had been made for their Emperor. As Leon V. Sigal states, ...one point was clear to senior [United States] officials, regardless of where they stood on war termination... the critical condition for Japanese surrender was the assurance that the throne would be preserved (Alperovitz 31). Many philosophers have spent countless years discussing, debating and evaluating such truths. One such influential philosopher is Socrates. Born in Athens in 469 B.C.E, he spent most of his time at the marketplace and other public places engaging in dialogues about truths of life. Among many other things, he discussed virtue and happiness and how closely they are related. This idea of goodness and virtue goes anything beyond worldly values and ideals. A good man cannot be harmed either in life or in death (41d), says Socrates further explaining that no matter what, a better man [cannot] be harmed by a worse (30d). Having virtue gives you a certain happiness that is well beyond life or death or worldly values and goods. So, how exactly does a person become virtuous? Socrates offers suggestions and explanation for this question as well. Socrates claims that one cannot be virtuous accidentally. Just because you commit a virtuous act does not make you virtuous. An understanding of the concept of virtue is equally important as the virtuous act itself. One needs to understand the nature of virtue which requires reflection of virtue and this reflection is only possible once you grasp your own ignorance about the nature of virtue. This understanding of one s own ignorance is human wisdom. So, since being perfectly happy requires being virtuous and being virtuous requires human wisdom, human wisdom is necessary for perfect happiness. So as a person begins to acquire human wisdom which is merely an understanding and acknowledgment of one s own ignorance, they are on their road to acquiring perfect happiness. So what happens to people who cannot acquire human wisdom and in turn cannot be virtuous? Are they denied happiness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In one instance, guide Andy Harris refused to believe that a portion of the oxygen canisters stored at the South Summit contained oxygen, often reporting There s no oxygen here! The misunderstanding by Harris was likely caused by a faulty oxygen register, but his unwillingness to believe his own tests were wrong confused many struggling climbers. Harris caused additional trouble while descending the mountain; he turned Jon Krakauer s oxygen level in the wrong direction on his tank. His books have sold more than 250 million copies worldwide (www.roalddahl.com). His most famous book was the first Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book which was published in 1964. This book got a lot of negative feedback not based on the storyline, but based on certain characters in the book. This book focuses on golden tickets and there are only five, one of them being found by a character named Charlie, who happens to be poor. The owner, Willy Wonka leads the five winning children on a delightful and frequently dangerous journey of his factory and only one child wins the big prize which in this case, is his factory.
