White People In Sports Essay
White people did not allow black people at first in the sport activity. White people did not want to
have any contact with black community. Black people were only allowed to have their own
leagues. They were not allowed to be in the leagues that they had white athletes. The black people
could only compete with themselves. It was very hard for black peopleto even have any competition
with other races in that period of time. After a while when white peoplestarted noticing that black
people were actually very good at sports, at first they tried to not let them compete with white
people. After some time that black people compete with white people, then they were sure that
black people were actually better than white people at specific sports.

Asthma
1. Discuss the pathophysiology of asthma.
The pathophysiology of Asthma includes inflammation of the airway. The way in which this works
is from an irritant which can include dust, pollen, cedar, or cat hair. When a reaction occurs, the
airways become inflamed and narrow. The narrowing occurs because once the inflammatory
response is triggered by an irritant, histamines, immunoglobulin E antibodies, and leukotrienes are
released. Because of this, mucous production occurs. Since the bronchioles are inflamed and
narrow, breathing becomes difficult. Wheezing sounds can be heard due to the lack of air being
able to easily move in and out of the narrowed bronchioles.
2. Discuss the educational points that should be included when ... Show more content on

Breathing techniques such as inhaling through the nose and breathing out from the mouth slowly
can be helpful for a patient to be aware of. Last, the patient should always have the physician s
information if asthma attacks become more frequent or they believe their inhaler to not be helping.
3. What components of the patient s asthma management plan should be monitored during a home
visit?
When visiting an asthmatic patient at home, it is important to monitor their environment. The
home is a place where people spend the majority of their time and therefore can easily contribute to
the exacerbation of asthma. While in the home environment, monitoring for mold, dust, pets,
cigarette smoke or plants is important. The cleanliness of the home along with the sleeping
environment can be good indicators as to the reasoning behind the patient s condition. This is a
good moment to teach the patient and family members ways to manage asthma based on the home
environment. Explanation as to what irritants are is important. Visiting the home would also be a
good time to observe the way in which the patient uses their inhaler along with other medications
they may be using. 4. Explain the stepwise approach and how it is utilized in care of the asthma
patient.
The stepwise approach is used to adjust the treatment of asthma. Based on the patient s condition,
the medication can either be increased or decreased. This is known as either

The Effect Of Kaolin On The Mechanical Properties Of...
EFFECT OF KAOLIN ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF POLYPROPYLENE
/ POLYETHYLENE COMPOSITE
MATERIAL
Samir Nassaf Mustafa
ABSTRACT : In this work, the mechanical and water absorption properties of polymer blend
polypropylene (PP) and low density polyethylene (LDPE) at constant ratio (50/50) composites as
a function of kaolin powder weight content in the grain size (100,120 Вµm) were investigated.
Polymer composite was fabricated by mixing polymer blend ( PPLDPE) with (0, 1, 3 ,5, 10, 14)
wt.% of kaolin powder to obtain desirable properties. The parameters such as tensile strength,
tensile modulus, elongation at break , yield stress, impact strength, shore D hardness and water
absorption test were carried out on the prepared samples. The results showed that the addition of
kaolin powder to the polymer leads to increase the tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, shore D
hardness and impact strength and it decreases the % elongation at break,. Water absorption of the
composites behaves as function of time (days) has also been investigated, and it increases by
increasing immersion time for the same filler content, while the absorbed amount of water
increases, by increasing the wt% of kaolin at constant immersion time.
Keywords: mechanical properties. polypropylene, low density polyethylene, kaolin, blend, filler.

My Childhood Essay
Memories are all I have. Memories are what I can hold on to. My little boy, not being here
anymore is the worst thing thus far that has happened. I wonder all the time, where he is, if he is
happy, if he is in peace. We have not been the same after the accident, even though it has been five
years.
We celebrate birthdays, and continue to talk as if he is still here. He is still here, I like to tell
myself. He is my angel, my guardian. He looks out for his mother, Ursula and makes sure I am
good to her. Even though on the outside it mainly seems like I am okay, I am mostly not. There is
always going to be a big chunk of my heart missing.
This whole situation is only because of those f**king humans. The god damn boats coming across
the sea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I turn around and notice something different with everything. It is silent. Dead silent. Then
vibrations come from above. Vibrations that feel familiar. That have an emotion of sadness. That
feels like death. A darkness grows from. I look up, seeing a familiar shape. An anger and rage
builds inside of me.
Ursula gives me a look I have never seen before. Go get them, for Billy. she says. I understand
things for the first time in forever. Things are meant to happen. These things come here for a
reason. I rush up to the top of the sea water, but stop as I am about to reach the surface. This is
what I have been waiting for. Five years, gone. This is my moment, to make things right with
everyone. My head slowly rises where the sunlight can hit my eyes. There I see them. The s***ty
humans. I see smiles everywhere. Dancing, happiness. Is this the right thing to do? I examine each
and every human, and how they are talking this weird language, and uses their body parts to
express emotion. I turn around to see is other human. I focus on what he is doing. I see him
throwing things into the sea, like it is some sort of garbage. No I should do this. If not for Billy, for
somebody else who is a parent and cannot bare to lose their child such as I. I quickly rise above the
water and grab multiple people with my several tentacles. Finally, I see fear in their faces. They all
have something to lose. I snap back into reality. I throw everyone I can

Cooper Industries Case Analysis Essay
Cooper Industries Corporate Strategy
Case Analysis
Company Vision
The vision of Cooper Industries, as stated in the case, was to do an outstanding job at the
unglamorous part by making necessary products of exceptional quality. The goal was to operate in
industries that had become somewhat of a necessity for consumers. Examples of such industries
include: power transmission, hand tools, drilling and others. Cooper industries had started in 1833,
as an iron foundry, and had existed most of its 150 years as a small sized maker of engines and
compressors. However, all this changed in the 1960s, when the management decided to expand the
company to lessen its dependence on the capital expenditures of the cyclical natural gas business. ...

Cooper also divested many less profitable businesses over an eighteen year period from 1970 to
1988. The benefit added by the Cooper conglomerate to its business units justifies the costs
associated with a corporate / centralized control. Furthermore, Cooper s corporate management
effectively managed and invested in the best opportunities for growth with little political bias.
Production
In order to achieve its goals clear guidelines were set that specified the degree and timing of
acquisitions focusing only on companies that exhibited stable earnings or earnings countercyclical
to the gas transmission industry. Cooper focused on acquisition targets that possessed strong assets
with high quality manufacturing and market leading positions. Cooper continued to refine this
acquisition model seeking companies with stable earnings using well known technologies that
served a broad customer base. Furthermore, Cooper focused on firms with high quality products and
recognized brand names.
In addition to acquisitions, Cooper brought significant systematic value to its businesses. Examples
of these contributions include, but are not limited to:
Finance
* the flow of financial resources to the individual businesses; * unity of purpose and focus under a
common corporate strategy (further supporting the firm s strategy as it relates to acquisitions and
divestitures); * FMV

The Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Hueshi
Hanif Kueishi s Buddha of Suburbia depicts a young man called Karim Amir and his search for
identity in 1970s London. As the plot progresses, it becomes apparent that Karim does not fall
into a distinct category, defined by sexuality, class, or race. He is a young mixed race man with
fluid sexuality. He is a funny kind of Englishman a product of two old histories (Kureishi 3). He
is placed in the position of a hybrid because of his cultural background, and by the endless racist
encounters that occur in his life. He is not a traditional protagonist who fully belongs to one social
group or identity. The narrative ultimately brings Karim to a realization that it is impossible for him
to find a place in the society. Karim s character dismantles the normativemovement of adolescence
into a societally accepted adulthood, and the societal expectations that discriminate against him
because he is almost English. By residing in a queer space and time in the Buddha of Suburbia,
Karim not only subverts the conventional construction of adulthood, but also withstands the
hegemonies of race that affect him as a half Indian living in London. Often placed as the Other,
Karim rejects both extremes. He rejects England s racialized view of him, and normative ideas of
home, and family. He acknowledges his odd mixture of continents and blood, of here and there, of
belonging or not and sets out to look for trouble, which would distract him from his gloomy, slow
and heavy family life (3).

Compare Sigmund Freud And Alfred Adler
Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler are well known and respected men in the world of psychology.
Both their theories involved the study of the human mind. Freud believed that much of the human
instinct was sexually based and that many problems they suffered were due to this instinct. Freud
concluded that his patients memories reached back to childhood and that many of the repressed
experiences they recalled concerned sexual issues. Adler believed there was more to the individual
but also knew that biology had an influence. He also believed that one s birth order and socially
affected the development of the human personality.
Sigmund Freud is known as the father or the founder of psychoanalysis because he concluded that
psychological problems goes back to sexual issues. Freud was influenced by the works of
psychologists such as Charles Darwin and Ernst Brucke, but Freud s teacher Jean Martin Charcot,
was the one that influenced him the most. Charcot influenced Freud because Charcot used a form
of hypnosis. Freud overheard Charcot talking about how he used this method on one patient and
that that patient had experienced hysterical symptoms. Charcot is only one of the many
circumstances that helped create his belief that there was a relationship that connected neurosis and
unresolved sexual issues.
Freud was interested by how Charcot used a hypnosis to treat hysteria. Freud started to experiment
with hypnotherapy. He concluded that hypnotherapy effected patients and it could be

Five Dimensions Of Hegemonic Masculinity
In depth interviews and participant observation that were conducted confirm that hegemonic
masculinity exists inside rock genre. There are five dimensions of hegemonic masculinity that will
be explained in this study. First, I will discuss about hegemonic masculinity as a tool to ascertain
male domination as previously said by Connell (1987) and Schippers (2002) that takes form in
women s interest on rock music. This domination renders masculinityas the real rock fan identity
(Eastman, 2012). Masculine identity determined by the men causes men to reject or question
women who happen to be in that terrain (Bourdieu, 2001; Yates, 2014). Rejection against women is
not only done by men, but even women do so through judgment towards women who do not display
masculinity (Howe Friedman, 2014). Lastly, women rock fans also concur to this domination
(Gramsci in Adams Dickey, 2000). This consent is given by justifying sexist lyrics and continuing...

I wanna see it painted, painted black : Masculinity as the Norm
The previous point has delineated men s roles as a form of hegemonic masculinity. Hegemony
manifests itself in mass media in the form of rigid gender roles (Schippers, 2002). Bennett (2009)
later adds that hegemonic masculinity is needed inside a community as a conformity towards
cultural identity. This point will later elaborate on hegemonic masculinity becoming the identity of
a group which consists of rock fans.
I gathered that women rock fans associated rock genre with men or masculinity. Tolerance
towards men s position inside rock subculture was also shown by opinions of women rock fans
regarding their identity as The Fallen as a metalhead. The Fallen is the catchy name that Avenged
Sevenfold fans from around the world call themselves. Meanwhile, metalhead refers to rock or
metal fans in general. Women rock fans, even those who are heavily invested in Avenged
Sevenfold or rock genre as a whole, were reluctant to call themselves The Fallen or

The Charter School Lottery Winners And Lottery Losers
Abstract The reading will focus on the overall educational program success of 36 charter middle
schools across 15 states. There will be at least three international standards incorporated with the
reading to shed light on the effectiveness and non effectiveness of the charters school education
programs. The charter schoollottery winners and lottery losers will be statically measured. The
standards that will be focused on are International Standard Organization (ISO) 9001:2008, Six
Sigma, and LEAN (LEAN Enterprise Institute). The reading will compare the purpose, values,
application, relative functionality, and implication of each Total Quality Management (TQM) model.
Keywords: programs, six, sigma, lean, model, charter, schools, standards
Total Quality Management According to Total Quality Management (TQM) (2013, pg 1), Total
quality management (TQM) can help a school monitor and evaluate its effectiveness. There are
various TQM models, but they all have a common focus on customer satisfaction and continuous
service improvement toward excellence. For schools, the customer is the student. When a Total
Quality Management (TQM) is implemented in an institution it can set it apart from the other
institutions. It formulates task teams to manage the institution compared to having a chain of
command. An effective Total Quality Management (TQM) institution Mission Statement is the
foundation of the education process. This encourages the staff

Egypt Culture Vs American Culture
People say that for a person to know where they are going, they have to know where they came
from. To be culturally aware of people outside of your native land, you cannot only study the
people s present state, but you also have to study their past. Learning and understanding the
similarities and differences of other cultures, not only makes us stronger as Americans, but it also
makes the world stronger. This paper addresses Egypts history, present culture and customs, and
explains their military capabilities. To begin with, Egypt has a rich history. Egypt is one of the

Shakespeare s Treatment Of Women In Hamlet
Shakespeare is known for his amazing literary works and his strong, female characters, none of
whom appear in one of his most famous literary works Hamlet. In the tragedy Hamlet,
Shakespeare depicts women as weak lesser beings whose only purpose is to serve men either as
servants, wives or pawns. The female characters of Hamletcertainly leave something to be desired.
Ophelia and Gertrudeare the only female characters in Hamletand are constantly used throughout
the play to further the agendas of the men of Hamlet. Typically the women of Shakespeare are
strong, independent women who don t need a man to rescue them women like Cordelia, Portia, and
Rosalind. It makes a one think that perhaps Shakespeare set strong female characters completely...

her brother in law Gertrude is used throughout the play by her new husband, King Claudius, to

Hamlet has truly gone mad, this plot ends with Hamlet killing Polonius Ophelia starts the play
as the love interest of Hamlet but after he begins his plan to appear crazy to get revenge for his
father s death Ophelia is scorned by Hamlet who constantly demeans her to make himself appear

Polonius, Ophelia s father (Shakespeare, 1750), The death of her father sends Ophelia into
hysteria and ends with her killing herself. Many believe that Shakespeare s poor view of women in
Hamlet is due to his unhappy marriage.
Ophelia and Gertrude are a far cry from other Shakespearean women. Cordelia of King Lear stays
true to herself by not grovelling to her father to gain land and power, instead she tells him that she
loves him as much as being his daughter says she should and he banishes her. Her two sisters then

they throw their father and Cordelia into the dungeons. While he lies defeated in the dungeon

Maturity In Stephen Crane s The Red Badge Of Courage
Throughout life, everyone goes through experiences that reconstruct them from immaturity to
maturity through circumstances and situations life throws at them. In the beginning of Stephen
Crane s book The Red Badge of Courage he shows us this transformation through the protagonist
Henry Fleming s story. From when he enlists in the army, he is faced with the question of whether
or not he should flee from a battle and struggles to face the issue. The Red Badge of Courageis a
story of Henry s personal struggles with conscience, fear and bravery. Henry, or The Youth as
Crane calls him, goes through a psychological transformation from a naive, cowardly individual to
a mature, brave soldier. The challenges he faces in warhelp mold him into his future self, a national
hero.
The story begins with Henry dreaming of becoming a hero like the Greek gods and enlists in the
army thinking of it as an easy way of turning into a hero. From the first time the thought of
enlisting in the army lingered in Henry s head, his mother was against it knowing he was not fitt

Why Did Hitler Become Chancellor Of Germany Essay
The first immediate political consequences of Hitler to becoming Chancellor of Germany was
the Reichstag fire, on the 27th of February, 1933. The reichstag building was the main meeting
place for the government of Germany. Hitler blamed the fire on a young communist, Marinus
van der Lubbe, who was found inside the building, and later used this as a reason to arrest 3000
communists and social democrats. Because of the fire, all political meetings got moved to the
Berlin Opera House, where Hitler passed the act that was commonly referred to as the Enabling
law . The social democrats were against it, but was still able to pass the act, 441 votes to 94. This
law enabled Hitler to make any decisions he wanted without consulting the reichstag. He used this
power to destroy opposing political parties and trade unions. On May 1st Hitler... Show more

Other parties were forced to disband and on July 15th, 1933 al law was passed to ban all parties
except the Nazis. Later the SA grew and became a threat to rival the army, and they began to rebel
against Hitler. Hitler then had 80 leaders of the SA executed by the German army. These
consequences were caused by Hitler becoming Chancellor of Germany because all decisions that
were made by Hitler in order to cause these consequences to happen were carried out using the
authority he had gained as the Chancellor of Germany.
There were many economic consequences of Hitler to becoming Chancellor of Germany. The
primary concern of the Nazis involving the economy was the high percentage of unemployment in
Germany. The total of unemployed people was 5.7 million in January 1933, and the Nazis had no
plan whatsoever. The Nazis were anti communist as well as anti capitalist to attract as much support
as possible. This meant the could not use communist or capitalist systems to fix the economy. This

Why I Want To Be A Nhs Essay

Summary Of The Working Poor
Michael James Ms. Phelps Pols 210 02 The Working Poor Essay The Working Poor is a story of
hard times in our lives, that can vary in times of the poor struggles, middle class struggles, and
just overall all struggles of everyday people whom have difficult times in their lives. In this
reading we found there were difficult things happening to people in this book in different
chapters and nothing really had a positive note from what the basis of the story had led us to
believe. There is some of this story where its chapter talks about money and how it is breaking
down people s lives simply with all aspects that are fairly difficult with money; such as income
tax as its goes into how the people cannot do their tax returns or pay their taxes, people being
scammed out their money, little to no trust in banks, and it even mentions certain tax company
in its efforts to stress the difficulties faced. Another speaks on some people life stories Ms.
Christine, Ms. Debra Hall, and Ms. Caroline Payne. These women faced many difficulties that it
speaks about and it almost becomes a consideration to be a biography in the story in this chapter
really. Later in the chapters it brings on some hardships on the men in the story where some of
these men make difficult decisions and they are not good to be honest they bring hardship to their
families to the next level because these are times where men should have been considered the
workers while they had a wife whom did house work and natured the

mature. To decide based on risks or how one is viewed by others. Choice is complex but
ultimately we do make the choices that affect the direction of our days. These decisions are not
made in a vacuum. Research shows that there are many influences that factor into the process.
From too little information to too much information or even the wrong information. Some factors
are out of our control, such as biological responses and others can be mitigated with education,
insight, and awareness on our part. We assume that having more choices is good, chafing at
whatever might try to limit them. Yet too many choices can inhibit our ability to make good
choices. Choice overload causes us to delay decisions, make poor decisions and be less satisfied
with what we choose. Our upbringing and the environmental context of our lives shape our
understanding of the options available to us. Our moral conscience, our sense of responsibility,
giving consideration to consequences and the effects on others guide what options are deemed
acceptable. They also sometimes show that the only choices available can have no good outcomes.
Do we make our own choices? Yes, we do, but Once we take into account the influences...the scope
of our choices is much narrower than we have long assumed. (Greenfield

Theme Of Symbolism In The Cask Of Amontillado
The Cask of Amontillado , a story of revenge and murder. Montresor tells his tale of revenge
smugly, as he invites the reader to applaud his cunning. By luring a friend into the catacombs of
the Montresors, he sought to take back his family s honor. To do so, he plotted a most gruesome
murder. By telling the story from Montresor s point of view, Poe forces the reader to look into the
inner workings of a murderer s mind through his clever use of symbolism. Everything within Poe s
stories takes on symbolic meaning. Every detail seems to stand for something else or to be
presenting a vital clue. Those that we encounter in The Cask of Amontilladoare no doubt gruesome.
However, these messages that we are compelled to decipher, create the perfect atmosphere. It s
carnival season, what s usually considered a rapturous event, becomes the perfect place for murder.
Starring Montresor and Fortunato, the reaper escorting the fool; we learn of the cask, a coat of arms
and motto, as well as, one s motives. All of these factors come into symbolic play. The setting, the
title, the coat of arms, the motto, the characters names, as well as their costumes, altogether play
parts in helping make the unfortunate murder of Fortunato all the more horrid and ironic.
To begin, the setting plays a symbolic role; representing a jovial time with an ironic twist. One
could get caught up and lost within a carnival, even murdered. It was not uncommon for someone
to go missing after such events. No

Stereotypes Of African American Music In The 20th Century
Up until the 20th century music in North America showed a clear distinction between race and
social class. The music from then has since evolved into many diverse forms and backgrounds of
origin. The most significant impact on music concerning race in the 20th century was African
Americans and the musical traditions, they brought to the music world adapted through the life of
slavery. Before the time era of the 20th century began, bluesmusic was spreading very rapidly
throughout. Blues is a vocal and instrumental musical form which evolved from African American
spirituals, shouts, work songs and chants. (Twentieth century music, n.d.) Blues was a way for
people to sing about their hardships as a way of venting. The origins of Jazzduring... Show more

A Brief History Of Alzheimer s Disease
1. Introduction 1.1A brief overview of Alzheimer s diseases The life expectancy is now doubled
from the last century in the developed countries due to the revolution progress in medicine and
health mainly to chronic diseases. Alzheimer s disease (AD) is one of the most well known and
familiar diseases in the modern societies AD was first reported by Alois Alzheimer in 1907.The
AD is the most common type of dementia and a neurodegenerative disease characterized by the
damage of nerve cells in the cerebral cortex. The health statistics report that AD disease affects
more than 50 million people worldwide in 2003, it is expected this number to increase to 114
million by 2050.(1) It is reported that AD disease affect one in three people over the age 85.(2) The
symptoms of AD include depression, apathy, anxiety, agitation, aggression, delusions,
hallucinations, wandering, and inappropriate sexual behaviours.(3) AD patients suffer from
decrease in cognitive function and short term memory. AD is characterised by the formation of
insoluble clumps of protein or plaques, formed by proteins known as ОІ amyloids. These attach to
the cell surface of neurons and disabled nerve transmission. These plaques have been
demonstrated to contain relatively high levels of Zn2+, Cu2+ and Fe3+ (1 mM, 0.4 mM and 1
mM respectively).(4) While the precise role of these metals is still uncertain, they appear to bind to
so called ОІ amyloid peptides that constitute the bulk of plaque deposits. Cu2+

Enframing
In this quote Heidegger is expressing what the essence of modern technology is. The essence of
modern of technology is Enframing. Enframing is way of revealing, it is an imposition in which
humans view the world as ready to use, standing reserve, and disposable. The reason why
Enframing is challenging is due to the notion that we view nature as a force that can not only be
subdued, but be used to for our benefit. Nature no longer just exists but rather can now be
viewed as a potential power source than can be harnessed, but stored for later use. This notion of
standing reserve has only become more prevalent with the rise of renewable energy, especially
when one considers solar energy. The main benefits of solar power is not only something than can
be extracted for usage while the sun is out, but the fact that it can be stored and exploited when the
sun is not readily available.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heidegger initially states that technology has a instrumental and anthropological definition. The
instrumental definition asserts that technology is a means to an end, while the anthropological
definition states that technology is a human activity. Heidegger makes a move separating the correct
from the true. While they may both be correct definitions of technology, he claims that the
anthropological and instrumental definitions of technology are not its true definitions. Which leads
us to question what is the true definition of technology and is there a distinction between
technology and modern

7.Regulation of CaCCs: The biophysical properties of CaCCs can be determined through varying
alternative splicing patterns on different exons of ANO gene. Though the dissimilar patterns
observed are believed not to change the overall topology of the channel 18,51, it is suggested that
alternative splicing can produce various channels with different biophysical properties, regulatory
mechanisms, and subcellular localizations 18,51,54. The EAVK sequence, as part of the first
intracellular loop in CaCCs, is regulated by alternative splicing 51 and believed to have a pivotal
role in biophysical and gating properties of the channel 43. Besides alternative splicing as a

High throughput screening of CaCCs can help us identify the specific activators and inhibitors of
these channels and with the help of fully controlled electrophysiological experiments combined
with biochemical and biophysical studies, we can unravel therapeutic targets of CaCCs for the
treatment of cystic fibrosis and other diseases related to chloride dysregulation. Though the
discovery of ANO1 and ANO2 as CaCCs has revolutionized our understanding of the great role
that anion s homeostasis could play in different physiological and pathological conditions, there
still are some important questions needed to be answered. In comparison to ANO1, ANO2
activation kinetics are faster 49, ANO2 has less sensitivity to Ca2+ concentrations 27 and provides
smaller single unit conductance 90, issues that should be considered more seriously upon realizing
why the existence of different ANO isoforms (ANO1 and ANO2) with diverse characteristics is
necessary in the cells. It is still unknown if these discrete characteristics can be assigned to specific
modules. In addition to other members of the Anoctamin family, other transmembrane proteins with
ambiguous function should be studied to see if they have the same characteristics of CaCCs or
other related channels and transporters responsible for the flow of Clв€’ and other anions across
the biological membranes. As well, the regulatory roles that cations can play in regard

Normative Ethics Reflection Paper
Ethics surrounds many emotions which are not accepted by morality as not important what is
discussed about it at the moment. It is also regularly used in same manner as with morality.
Ethical concern having largely taken place with friends, family and society as well, preparing a

The type of ethical philosophy that I am interested to me is Changing Modern Philosophy.
Inheriting good things from past is not bad. We human beings we learn from surroundings, our
nature is also with mixture of good and bad. As long as we have the talent to choose what suits us
and does not, we have to choose the one fits us. After reading the unit 2 writings of different
philosophers, I am interested with Changing Modern Philosophy. In 1958 Elisabeth Anscombe,
came with a modern philosophy which changed the way we think about normative theories. Her
critics were the moral philosophy s pre occupation by conceiving laws of ethics. This law deals
with highly regarded rules and regulations. Her critics on theories which were universally applied

Disadvantage Of Instant Gratification
II. Impatience in Singaporeans
In an age where everybody is largely accessible, our environment has become one where it
encourages instant demand, and consequently, instant gratification a mindset of wanting something
at the exact moment of wanting it.
Living in an on demand society, frustrations and complaints will certainly mount when one s level
of gratification is not met. This is even more pronounced in Generation Z, as a significant greater
percentage of children are engaging in the use of mobile phones at a young age, an electrical device,
which encourages instant gratification. In fact, their parents, people of the millennia, have been
seemingly conditioned to a world based on instant gratification. An example would be our

At this point, the paper will be raising the concept of delay gratification the opposite of instant
gratification. In 1970, psychologist Walter Mischel conducted The Marshmallow Experiment,
an experiment famous for substantiating the effects of delay gratification. Children were given
a marshmallow by researchers and told the following: They could eat the marshmallow now and
not get anymore; or if they could wait until the researchers came back and receive a second
marshmallow. The researchers then proceeded to track these children into adulthood, regardless
of whether they decided to wait or not. The results of this experiment showed that children who
were willing to wait and delay gratification ended up having higher SAT scores, lower levels of
substance abuse, a lower likelihood of obesity, better responses to stress, and better social skills.
This was largely attributed to the fact that, if one has the ability to delay gratification of playing
before doing work, one will be more self disciplined to complete the pre assigned

A Connecticut Yankee Character Analysis
Mark Twain combines two distinct time periods in his novel, A Connecticut Yankee in King
Arthur s Court. Born in the 19th century, character Hank Morgan wakes up one day to find
himself in the 6th century. Morgan quickly takes advantage of his newfound place in a primeval
society and establishes power through the introduction of technology. Some critics believe that
Morgan s desire for power leads to his corruption. Two notable critics, Arthur Shattuck O Keefe
and Jane Gardiner, bash Morgan and see through his lies and make believe, asserting how the
Yankee ruined his own vision of bringing the 19th century to the 6th century. As a whole, Morgan s
arrogance and hypocrisy leads to both the growth and eventual collapse of his ideal, utopian
society. Hank Morgan represents a corrupt individual who represses opposing ideologies that go
against his plans for rebuilding society. He shows determination to get what he wants as he makes
change in King Arthurs domain, not letting any opponent stand in his way. Arthur Shattuck O
Keefe takes a close look at Morgan s persistence, causing him to believe that it drives the Yankee
to the point of complete arrogance and desire for absolute rule. O Keefe addresses Morgan s
shift of power in his work, The Morally Imperative Lie in Twain s Connecticut Yankee, stating
that Hank Morgan is a malignant (if not totalitarian) authority figure (O Keefe). It can be
deduced that Morgan uses his power to the highest extent and shows no sympathy as he passes
through the various ranks in King Arthur s court. There is even a point where Morgan passes
the King, as in the book it was mentioned how [He] was no shadow the king... The king himself
was the shadow (Twain 44). It was at this point where The Boss assumes the highest political
power. However, he furthermore looked to make changes with his newfound role. He later plans
possible intrusions with the Church, the most powerful force at the time. He mentions how people
in society see the hand of that awful power, the Roman Catholic Church (Twain 46). It is at this
point where Morgan is just one step away from holding complete dominance. His arrogance blocks
out any outside noise, however, as he was told on numerous occasions to be

Compare And Contrast The Whiskey Rebellion And Daniel Shays
Destiny Manston per.4 Dept, Taxes, and Daniel Shays Daniel Shays Rebellion took place during
the time of America s post war depression that from 1784 1787. The rebellion fits into the theme
of culture and society . The confederation had an enormous debt that had built up during the
Revolutionary War. Congress showed its weakness that weighed heavily on debtors and having
no power to tax. The confederation could only make requisition on the states but even then could
only receive one sixth of the money. Robert Morris and his Philadelphia allies had an idea for a
centralized government after the flaws found in the Articles of Confederation. Because the states
also had post war dept, they had to rely on taxation to get payed back. The increase of taxation
caused Nationalists to became outraged toward the government who felt that they were being
treated unfairly (and in some cases felt that the government was being tyrannical). The burdened
farmers demanded paper money to fulfill the obligations. The effect of the increased burdens of
debt and taxation caused farmers to riot periodically in various parts of New England in the late
1700s. The Dissidents from Connecticut Valley and Berkshire Massachusetts rallied behind Daniel
Shay who was a former captain of the Continental army. An example of something similar
happening was the Whiskey Rebellion. Both revolts include an anarchy that called for the

Long Term Species Is The Main Goal Of Conservation Biology
1.1 Conservation genetics
Long term species persistence is the main goal of conservation biology, and this has been
associated with maintenance of species evolutionary potential (Hamrick et al. 1991), which in turn,
is not unconnected with higher levels of genetic variation in the focal species (Frankel and Soule
1981). Therefore, the field of conservation genetics, defined as the application of molecular genetic
techniques to the conservation of biodiversity (Frankham 2010), was introduced for accurate
understanding of genetic diversity in a focal taxa, and how this can be maintained or amplified, in
order to ensure species persistence, even in a changing environment.
Population genetic theory (Wright 1969) suggests that small isolated populations will undergo
genetic drift, inbreeding and reduced gene flow, resulting in loss of intra population genetic
variation, increased genetic differentiation among populations, inbreeding depression and loss of
fitness (Barrett and Kohn 1991), leading to extirpation (Reed and Frankham 2003). This is also
corroborated from ecological theory that predicted that small populations with small geographical
range and poor dispersal capacity have higher extinction risk (Belovsky et al. 1999). Consequently,
population size is one of the most important criteria in IUCN criteria for red listing of threatened
species (Mace et al. 2008).
Previous studies support the prediction of population genetic theory that rare plant species will
exhibit low

In this modern day and age, there are many possible solutions to many possible questions. A
common occurence recently, has been researchers and archeologists wondering what the next

are being developed. Some examples of such are, the Mailbox tool, Dropsonde Sensor, and the

the Dropsonde Sensor. This conclusion is clearly evident for a number of reasons. For instance,

We as California have at least before the drought did not have awareness of the water problem.
Most average Californians probably did not know about any water issues.

The people of California are the utmost importance to change. With the support of the people
California can do anything. Voting for change is a empowerment the government gives to the
people. Many people can play a key role for example California senators and representatives even
motors of cities will have the challenge of getting the people heard. Getting the people to
support change in this topic it has to be sold to the people. This is a better time then ever to get
the support of the people because of the recent drought. Most people are relatively educated or at
least aware of issues the drought brung. Knowing that the people are no more the ever ready for
change. The obstacle is selling it. The facts need to be shown of the positives a new system would
show.
As a Northern Californian I have an opinion that the twin tunnels project will not solve anything. It
will short term help supply SoCal with sufficient water but at the extent of NorCal. It just moves
the problem somewhere else. So in long term it will cause more problems compared to fixing them.
A plan needs to be put together that can create a steady movement and supply of water but even a
better recycling system. As

The Catastrophe Model
The third instrument measuring anxiety is the Catastrophe model. The purpose of this model is to
find the correlation between physiological arousal and cognitive anxiety and the relationship it has
with performance (Fazey Hardy, 1988; Hardy 1990). The earliest model dates back to the early
1900s when researchers Yerkes Dodson (1908) conducted a study on mice testing punishment
stimulus frequency. Results from the study predicted that very little to no arousal prompts poor
performance, moderate arousal prompts average or decent performance and after that performance
declines after reaching the optimal level (Hardy and Parfitt 1991). As they compared cognitive, a
mental component when athletes become anxious they begin to think negatively

A Comparison Of The Pantheon And The Parthenon
Introduction
With just a quick glance at pictures taken from a distance of the front of the Pantheon and the
Parthenon, one might conclude that they are the same building or the same design. Both have eight
Greek inspired columns topped with metopes and a triangular pediment at the entry portico (front).
However, any other view and a closer look would reveal substantial differences. Even the condition
of the present buildings would indicate that the buildings are from very different times and, of
course, very different locations.
The Parthenon
The Parthenon is a Greek temple constructed in 447 BC. It was designed by the architect/artist
Phidias and commissioned by Perikles after the Peliponnesian War to worship the Greek goddess,
Athena. Reed (2005) The building is a classical Greek structure in the Doric order known as a
peripteral
THE PANTHEON AND THE PARTHENON 2 octastyle Doric temple with Ionic columns.
Wikipedia (2017a) The octastyle designation refers to the eight columns at each end of the
structure. The building ends also have a second row of six columns at the interior of the outer
columns. The interior is divided into two rooms by masonry walls with interior columns in each
room. The building was and is famous for its ornate sculpture on the surface of the temple along the
frieze and pediments as well as sculptures on the interior of the building, namely the
chryselephantine statue of Athena sculpted by Phidias. The building is also said to have been built in

Reflection Paper On Rock Climbing
Reflection Paper #3 During Week 3, we started our day on the bad side due to the lack of sleep,
and the change of weather. Throughout the day our energy level improved as the day went on. The
field activity for the day included rock climbing. Discussion of group dynamics, rock climbing
technique and leave no traces were brought up through out the day.
Group Dynamic The group dynamic was really off since the morning started. Everyone was
gloomy and sleepy. I know that I personally slept for four hours the night before . Which leads
me to almost thought about just coming to class two hours late just because of how
unmotivated my mindset was at the time. Even in the group setting, it was not just me who was
low on morale, it was everyone in class too. This can affect our group s energy and it lowered
morale and excitement within the rank. Sitting inside and listening to presentation all day long
do not help . The idea of going out and moving around have help with our engird level. This is
useful for leading group in time of low energy like what we went through that day. When it came
to lunch time, people were feeling better due to having food in our system, and the active hand on
cooking hlep made us more active. With food in our tummy, we were able to feel the energy to
participate in our rock climbing.
Rock Climbing Technique Rock climbing was a very intense workout. I have not rock climb for a
long time, I remembered the first time that I did, it took me a long time to

Everythingis Bigger In Texas. This Phrase Has Been Said
Everything is bigger in Texas. This phrase has been said or hear at least once by every person in
Texas. Even tourists poke fun at the phrase when they get a chance. Texas is known for the
cowboys, saddle, and horses. Although these are just stereotypes, they are slightly true. Texas
loves its horses, but it also loves it pride. Like many states, it has a long history before it joined the
US. Texasis also a state with many political differences, but it is based around one particular
political culture. Political culture is like a culture itself; many beliefs and habits blended into one
single community, but involving politics. Texas especially, has a variety of international beliefs, but
its politics mainly revolves around one subculture.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the reasons why it has many political views, still until this day. However, as stated
before, it is still dominated by the will to protect personal welfare, and no government intervention.
In class, we had discussed how Texas is individualistic because of its independence traits. Daniel
Elazar describes Texas a the lone star; they are getting help from the government, but in the end,
they prefer to be free of control. One enormous example is the right open carry. Texas is perhaps
the state who exercises this right the most. In 1955, the act was carried and boy, did Texas loved
this law. They felt independent, and like if they were their own protection. They did not need
any form of police force, or the under thought that the government was there to help them. They
were in control of their safety, and will act upon any dangerous encounter. Furthermore, Texas
also love to put that sign, Trespassers will be shot . It is not uncommon to hear a case in court in
which an intruder was shot by a shotgun by the owner, and the citizen is protected by law. There
is a national presumption that Texas loves guns, and they aren t far off. However, guns is a
symbol of freedom, and the feeling to be free from any sort of protection of law enforcement is a
breather for Texans.
Texas is also individualistic in the way that it supports private business, and individual

Ancient Greek Influence On Ancient Rome
There are many Greek myths that were altered or redirected to serve the state of Rome. For
instance, Roman culture borrowed elements of government, religion, and lifestyle. Etruscans were
also an important conduit of Greek influence on Early Rome. In addition, Roman myth is heavily
patriarchal, befitting a society where the male head of the household had the power of life and
death over everyone. The Romans also, culturally inferior to the Greeksadopted Greek literature and
mythology by just changing names and adapting the concepts to fit their ideas and values. In
addition, many gods are believed to have taken part in the founding of Rome. All of the gods were
consulted and honored to make sure that the actions of the state met with divine

Imagination In The Mark On The Wall, By W. B. Yeats
After losing considerably in the war, people had to begin to decide for themselves what was
important. Their identity had been marred by reality and the only way to fix this was to shed
their old priorities and construct new ones. Among these priorities were: creativity, originality,
and possibility. Imagination is simple because one can access it from anywhere. For this reason,
authors utilize it often. This is evident in Virginia Woolf s, The Mark on the Wall and W. B.
Yeats s, Sailing to Byzantium. Woolf s narrator claims, I can think sitting still as well as standing
up which is only made possible by imagination (Woolf 2148). Similarly, Critics writing on [Yeats
s] poem have perceived Byzantium as, variously, a representation of the imagination, the
imaginative act, the soul, the vision, and Unity of Being (Pruitt 225). Of course this Byzantium
Yeats references is only one in the mind slightly based off of memory. This corresponds with
Woolf s work and how she uses memory as a beginning point and, therefore...in remembering the
event the narrator is transported back to the scene so that it seems to her to be happening in the
present, or happening over and over (Cyr 199). Likewise, in Sailing to Byzantium the reader is
invited, to contemplate such an ideal location, projecting it over the past, present, and what is to
come as if it too, is out of the reach of time because it is constantly occurring in the imagination
(Tucker 68). Also using imagination,

The Masses And The Dystopian Novel Elysium Essay
The connection between these texts is they all feature compliancy of the masses, and all feature in
some form of dystopian worlds. The texts all feature varying forms of dystopia, Bioshock features
a dystopia brought on by evolutionary war, whereas brave new world features a world where the
state has unlimited control over the technology and the people that rely on it.
Paragraph 1
In Elysium, the film has an imaginary space station called Elysium this station hold only the
most elite people, everybody else lives in a worldwide slum down on earth. The people on earth
all just try to survive those who have jobs are forced to preform back braking labour for a
minuscule pay, most just accept this fact and occupy themselves with trying to survive. This is
the compliancy of the masses and the dystopian element in Elysium the fact that all these people
lie down and let the elitists walk all over them is depressing. The author seems to be suggesting
that humans will always treat each other poorly and that as people get more power they are more
willing to risk human life for their own benefit. And the author is also showing how if we allow
the masses to become complacent with poor living conditions society will fall into dystopia. Mr
Blomkamp made these ideas apparent by the use of grimy conditions in the film, he also showed
the risk people are put in by having a man fully exposed to lethal amounts of radiation and his co
workers being forced to continue production without

Nike Hyperdunk Ad Analysis

Bennett ReissEnglish 1110Primary Source AnalysisIn 2008, Nike posted various advertisements
for their Hyperdunk basketball sneakers across Harlem. These ads were quickly met with heavy
criticism, as many people interpreted the ads as being homophobic. The aforementioned ad
features the offensive player posterizing the defender. In layman s terms, the player with the ball
ferociously dunks on the defender. The position of the two players gets interesting, as the crotch
of the offensive player is essentially on the defender s face. This positioning conceals the majority
of the defender s head, with exception to his hair. Based off of lighting and shadows, the viewer
can assume that the defender is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I feel like the fact that there aren t any facial features further supports the claim of homophobia, as
this advertisement clearly isn t about basketball. To further the damage, Nike placed That Ain t
Right directly over the the area with the defender s face and the dunker s crotch. The
aforementioned message is written in large, white block letters, essentially taking up about one
third of the entire ad. After putting all of these aspects together, every single time one views this
advertisement they are drawn to the spectacle of the dunker s genitalia in the defender s face.
Immediately after registering this though, they are then drawn to That Ain t Right and that s
essentially all there is to this advertisement. The end product of this advertisement is the viewer
seeing a subtly homosexual act and proceeding to link that concept with That Ain t Right. This
advertisement speaks out against the tantalizing issue of homosexuals in sports, and continues to
belittle homosexuals while sending the message that they don t belong in sports. This is extremely
frustrating, as this advertisement represents the battle that gay athletes have continuously fought,
and to this day have made little progress. This issue is extremely political, especially in the world
of sports. Players should be given equal opportunities, regardless of their sexual orientation. If the
player is talented enough to compete at the collegiate or professional

Rhetorical Analysis On La Perla
La Perla garnered negative press on Twitter after a picture was taken showing one of its
mannequins in the New York store with its ribs protruding. Twitter users were extremely frustrated
and angry with La Perla and created a hashtag implying that they were no longer going to buy La
Perla s products. After being alerted of the issue, La Perla quickly removed the mannequin from its
store and released a statement saying it would no longer use that mannequin. The article highlights
the issue of body shaming and the issue of fashion companies using stick thin mannequins to model
clothing. Many people feel that the use of these mannequins promotes an unhealthy lifestyle and an
unrealistic image for young girls, which can lead to eating disorders

Underrepresentation In Superhero Comic Books
It s a bird, it s a plane, it s a... black Superman? With the representation of all identities growing in
different forms of media, superhero comic books have picked up this trend and have begun to
introduce characters with diverse backgrounds. Due to the previously mentioned occurrence,
readers of different creeds, sexual orientation, and ethnicities are being introduced to the world of
superheroes. With this new trend, many questions arise concerning the impact and necessity of
underrepresentation and fairness. How have superherocomic books widened their depiction of
underrepresented communities, and what role does history play on the characters of comic books?
More specifically, how have Marvel and DC Comicsbeen affected by history, and... Show more

Superheroes such as Miles Morales, Kenan Kong, and Jaime Reyes taking the title of
Spiderman, Super Man, and Blue Beetle all have one thing in common; they epitomize an
underrepresented ethnic and racial community. Axel Alonso, the creator of the half Hispanic,
half black Spider Man (Miles Morales), explains, Miles is but one face in a diverse landscape of
heroes that includes Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), Sam Wilson (Captain America) and Amadeus
Cho (the Hulk), and offers readers of all creeds and colors a chance to see their own reflection
(Moreno, 2016, para. 10). Just like the creation of Batwoman, Miles Morales creation is due to
the fact that creators wanted to be able to reach every member of their audience. However, often
lost in the intersection between superheroes and science fiction is the place race occupies in the
genre, and when it is addressed, the discussion frequently turns to framing the genre as racially
biased, (Nama, 2008, p. 134). For these reasons, many comic book creators refrain from
addressing these issues, since it may lead to them being accused of conforming to a stereotype.
Even so, the audience for comics is a truly multicultural one; in fact, it is more ethnically diverse
than are the heroes the young people read about (Brown, 1999, p.

The Science of Soccer
Soccer is my favorite sport. Soccer is a sport played between two teams of eleven players with a
circle shaped ball. This game is played on a rectangle shaped field with a goal at each end. The
object of the game is to score by using any part of the body (besides arms and hands) to get the
soccer ball into the opposing goal. There are so many things that go into making a soccer game
function. Science, math, and many other things help this game run properly. Weight and massplay a
big part in soccer. Weight is a forcethat is always directed towards the center of the earth. The
weight of an average MLS (major league soccer) ball is about one pound. If the ball weighs more
than it s supposed to, then it will be harder to kick. If a player is weighs more, than their kick is
going to be a lot harder but, they will be slower than the lighter kids.
A soccer ball is hollow and inflated with high pressure air. The weight of the ball is distributed
on single point the outside. Most of us think of the weight a collected and acting through a single
point called the center of gravity. The center of gravity is the average location of the weight of an
object. The center of gravity on a soccer ball is located in the exact middle of the ball. When the
ball is in flight the ball rotates around the center of gravity.
Friction prevents the ball from rolling on forever. The ball rubs against the ground which causes
resistance. That resistance slows the ball down. Eventually, no matter

  • 3. Asthma 1. Discuss the pathophysiology of asthma. The pathophysiology of Asthma includes inflammation of the airway. The way in which this works is from an irritant which can include dust, pollen, cedar, or cat hair. When a reaction occurs, the airways become inflamed and narrow. The narrowing occurs because once the inflammatory response is triggered by an irritant, histamines, immunoglobulin E antibodies, and leukotrienes are released. Because of this, mucous production occurs. Since the bronchioles are inflamed and narrow, breathing becomes difficult. Wheezing sounds can be heard due to the lack of air being able to easily move in and out of the narrowed bronchioles. 2. Discuss the educational points that should be included when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Breathing techniques such as inhaling through the nose and breathing out from the mouth slowly can be helpful for a patient to be aware of. Last, the patient should always have the physician s information if asthma attacks become more frequent or they believe their inhaler to not be helping. 3. What components of the patient s asthma management plan should be monitored during a home visit? When visiting an asthmatic patient at home, it is important to monitor their environment. The home is a place where people spend the majority of their time and therefore can easily contribute to the exacerbation of asthma. While in the home environment, monitoring for mold, dust, pets, cigarette smoke or plants is important. The cleanliness of the home along with the sleeping environment can be good indicators as to the reasoning behind the patient s condition. This is a good moment to teach the patient and family members ways to manage asthma based on the home environment. Explanation as to what irritants are is important. Visiting the home would also be a good time to observe the way in which the patient uses their inhaler along with other medications they may be using. 4. Explain the stepwise approach and how it is utilized in care of the asthma patient. The stepwise approach is used to adjust the treatment of asthma. EFFECT OF KAOLIN ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF POLYPROPYLENE / POLYETHYLENE COMPOSITE MATERIAL Samir Nassaf Mustafa ABSTRACT : In this work, the mechanical and water absorption properties of polymer blend polypropylene (PP) and low density polyethylene (LDPE) at constant ratio (50/50) composites as a function of kaolin powder weight content in the grain size (100,120 Вµm) were investigated. Polymer composite was fabricated by mixing polymer blend ( PPLDPE) with (0, 1, 3 ,5, 10, 14) wt.% of kaolin powder to obtain desirable properties. The parameters such as tensile strength, tensile modulus, elongation at break , yield stress, impact strength, shore D hardness and water absorption test were carried out on the prepared samples. The results showed that the addition of kaolin powder to the polymer leads to increase the tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, shore D hardness and impact strength and it decreases the % elongation at break,. Water absorption of the composites behaves as function of time (days) has also been investigated, and it increases by increasing immersion time for the same filler content, while the absorbed amount of water increases, by increasing the wt% of kaolin at constant immersion time. I wonder all the time, where he is, if he is happy, if he is in peace. We have not been the same after the accident, even though it has been five years. We celebrate birthdays, and continue to talk as if he is still here. He is still here, I like to tell myself. He is my angel, my guardian. He looks out for his mother, Ursula and makes sure I am good to her. Even though on the outside it mainly seems like I am okay, I am mostly not. Ursula gives me a look I have never seen before. Go get them, for Billy. she says. I understand things for the first time in forever. Things are meant to happen. These things come here for a reason. I rush up to the top of the sea water, but stop as I am about to reach the surface. This is what I have been waiting for. Five years, gone. This is my moment, to make things right with everyone. My head slowly rises where the sunlight can hit my eyes. There I see them. The s***ty humans. I see smiles everywhere. Dancing, happiness. Is this the right thing to do? I examine each and every human, and how they are talking this weird language, and uses their body parts to express emotion. I turn around to see is other human. I focus on what he is doing. • 7. The Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Hueshi Hanif Kueishi s Buddha of Suburbia depicts a young man called Karim Amir and his search for identity in 1970s London. As the plot progresses, it becomes apparent that Karim does not fall into a distinct category, defined by sexuality, class, or race. He is a young mixed race man with fluid sexuality. He is a funny kind of Englishman a product of two old histories (Kureishi 3). He is placed in the position of a hybrid because of his cultural background, and by the endless racist encounters that occur in his life. He is not a traditional protagonist who fully belongs to one social group or identity. The narrative ultimately brings Karim to a realization that it is impossible for him to find a place in the society. Karim s character dismantles the normativemovement of adolescence into a societally accepted adulthood, and the societal expectations that discriminate against him because he is almost English. By residing in a queer space and time in the Buddha of Suburbia, Karim not only subverts the conventional construction of adulthood, but also withstands the hegemonies of race that affect him as a half Indian living in London. Often placed as the Other, Karim rejects both extremes. He rejects England s racialized view of him, and normative ideas of home, and family. He acknowledges his odd mixture of continents and blood, of here and there, of belonging or not and sets out to look for trouble, which would distract him from his gloomy, slow and heavy family life (3). ... • 8. Compare Sigmund Freud And Alfred Adler Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler are well known and respected men in the world of psychology. Both their theories involved the study of the human mind. Freud believed that much of the human instinct was sexually based and that many problems they suffered were due to this instinct. Freud concluded that his patients memories reached back to childhood and that many of the repressed experiences they recalled concerned sexual issues. Adler believed there was more to the individual but also knew that biology had an influence. He also believed that one s birth order and socially affected the development of the human personality. Sigmund Freud is known as the father or the founder of psychoanalysis because he concluded that psychological problems goes back to sexual issues. Freud was influenced by the works of psychologists such as Charles Darwin and Ernst Brucke, but Freud s teacher Jean Martin Charcot, was the one that influenced him the most. Charcot influenced Freud because Charcot used a form of hypnosis. Freud overheard Charcot talking about how he used this method on one patient and that that patient had experienced hysterical symptoms. Charcot is only one of the many circumstances that helped create his belief that there was a relationship that connected neurosis and unresolved sexual issues. Freud was interested by how Charcot used a hypnosis to treat hysteria. Freud started to experiment with hypnotherapy. He concluded that hypnotherapy effected patients and it could be ... • 9. Five Dimensions Of Hegemonic Masculinity In depth interviews and participant observation that were conducted confirm that hegemonic masculinity exists inside rock genre. There are five dimensions of hegemonic masculinity that will be explained in this study. First, I will discuss about hegemonic masculinity as a tool to ascertain male domination as previously said by Connell (1987) and Schippers (2002) that takes form in women s interest on rock music. This domination renders masculinityas the real rock fan identity (Eastman, 2012). Masculine identity determined by the men causes men to reject or question women who happen to be in that terrain (Bourdieu, 2001; Yates, 2014). Rejection against women is not only done by men, but even women do so through judgment towards women who do not display masculinity (Howe Friedman, 2014). Lastly, women rock fans also concur to this domination (Gramsci in Adams Dickey, 2000). This consent is given by justifying sexist lyrics and continuing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I wanna see it painted, painted black : Masculinity as the Norm The previous point has delineated men s roles as a form of hegemonic masculinity. Hegemony manifests itself in mass media in the form of rigid gender roles (Schippers, 2002). Bennett (2009) later adds that hegemonic masculinity is needed inside a community as a conformity towards cultural identity. This point will later elaborate on hegemonic masculinity becoming the identity of a group which consists of rock fans. I gathered that women rock fans associated rock genre with men or masculinity. Tolerance towards men s position inside rock subculture was also shown by opinions of women rock fans regarding their identity as The Fallen as a metalhead. The Fallen is the catchy name that Avenged Sevenfold fans from around the world call themselves. Meanwhile, metalhead refers to rock or metal fans in general. Summary Of The Working Poor Michael James Ms. Phelps Pols 210 02 The Working Poor Essay The Working Poor is a story of hard times in our lives, that can vary in times of the poor struggles, middle class struggles, and just overall all struggles of everyday people whom have difficult times in their lives. In this reading we found there were difficult things happening to people in this book in different chapters and nothing really had a positive note from what the basis of the story had led us to believe. There is some of this story where its chapter talks about money and how it is breaking down people s lives simply with all aspects that are fairly difficult with money; such as income tax as its goes into how the people cannot do their tax returns or pay their taxes, people being scammed out their money, little to no trust in banks, and it even mentions certain tax company in its efforts to stress the difficulties faced. Another speaks on some people life stories Ms. Christine, Ms. Debra Hall, and Ms. Caroline Payne. These women faced many difficulties that it speaks about and it almost becomes a consideration to be a biography in the story in this chapter really. Later in the chapters it brings on some hardships on the men in the story where some of these men make difficult decisions and they are not good to be honest they bring hardship to their families to the next level because these are times where men should have been considered the workers while they had a wife whom did house work and natured the ... In 2005 many people evacuated themselves from the New Orleans area in anticipation of one of history s most powerful storms, Hurricane Katrina. Others chose not to until a mandatory evacuation notice went out one day before the storm hit. Despite this order to leave many residents remained in their homes. Some of these people died. Decide to be stupid or thoughtful; shortsighted or mature. To decide based on risks or how one is viewed by others. Choice is complex but ultimately we do make the choices that affect the direction of our days. These decisions are not made in a vacuum. Research shows that there are many influences that factor into the process. From too little information to too much information or even the wrong information. Some factors are out of our control, such as biological responses and others can be mitigated with education, insight, and awareness on our part. We assume that having more choices is good, chafing at whatever might try to limit them. Yet too many choices can inhibit our ability to make good choices. Choice overload causes us to delay decisions, make poor decisions and be less satisfied with what we choose. Our upbringing and the environmental context of our lives shape our understanding of the options available to us. Our moral conscience, our sense of responsibility, giving consideration to consequences and the effects on others guide what options are deemed acceptable. They also sometimes show that the only choices available can have no good outcomes. Do we make our own choices? Yes, we do, but Once we take into account the influences...the scope of our choices is much narrower than we have long assumed. (Greenfield ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Montresor tells his tale of revenge smugly, as he invites the reader to applaud his cunning. By luring a friend into the catacombs of the Montresors, he sought to take back his family s honor. To do so, he plotted a most gruesome murder. By telling the story from Montresor s point of view, Poe forces the reader to look into the inner workings of a murderer s mind through his clever use of symbolism. Everything within Poe s stories takes on symbolic meaning. Every detail seems to stand for something else or to be presenting a vital clue. Those that we encounter in The Cask of Amontilladoare no doubt gruesome. However, these messages that we are compelled to decipher, create the perfect atmosphere. It s carnival season, what s usually considered a rapturous event, becomes the perfect place for murder. Starring Montresor and Fortunato, the reaper escorting the fool; we learn of the cask, a coat of arms and motto, as well as, one s motives. All of these factors come into symbolic play. The setting, the title, the coat of arms, the motto, the characters names, as well as their costumes, altogether play parts in helping make the unfortunate murder of Fortunato all the more horrid and ironic. Alzheimer s disease (AD) is one of the most well known and familiar diseases in the modern societies AD was first reported by Alois Alzheimer in 1907.The AD is the most common type of dementia and a neurodegenerative disease characterized by the damage of nerve cells in the cerebral cortex. The health statistics report that AD disease affects more than 50 million people worldwide in 2003, it is expected this number to increase to 114 million by 2050.(1) It is reported that AD disease affect one in three people over the age 85.(2) The symptoms of AD include depression, apathy, anxiety, agitation, aggression, delusions, hallucinations, wandering, and inappropriate sexual behaviours.(3) AD patients suffer from decrease in cognitive function and short term memory. AD is characterised by the formation of insoluble clumps of protein or plaques, formed by proteins known as ОІ amyloids. These attach to the cell surface of neurons and disabled nerve transmission. These plaques have been demonstrated to contain relatively high levels of Zn2+, Cu2+ and Fe3+ (1 mM, 0.4 mM and 1 mM respectively).(4) While the precise role of these metals is still uncertain, they appear to bind to so called ОІ amyloid peptides that constitute the bulk of plaque deposits. Enframing is way of revealing, it is an imposition in which humans view the world as ready to use, standing reserve, and disposable. The reason why Enframing is challenging is due to the notion that we view nature as a force that can not only be subdued, but be used to for our benefit. Nature no longer just exists but rather can now be viewed as a potential power source than can be harnessed, but stored for later use. This notion of standing reserve has only become more prevalent with the rise of renewable energy, especially when one considers solar energy. • 33. A Connecticut Yankee Character Analysis Mark Twain combines two distinct time periods in his novel, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court. Born in the 19th century, character Hank Morgan wakes up one day to find himself in the 6th century. Morgan quickly takes advantage of his newfound place in a primeval society and establishes power through the introduction of technology. Some critics believe that Morgan s desire for power leads to his corruption. Two notable critics, Arthur Shattuck O Keefe and Jane Gardiner, bash Morgan and see through his lies and make believe, asserting how the Yankee ruined his own vision of bringing the 19th century to the 6th century. As a whole, Morgan s arrogance and hypocrisy leads to both the growth and eventual collapse of his ideal, utopian society. Hank Morgan represents a corrupt individual who represses opposing ideologies that go against his plans for rebuilding society. He shows determination to get what he wants as he makes change in King Arthurs domain, not letting any opponent stand in his way. Arthur Shattuck O Keefe takes a close look at Morgan s persistence, causing him to believe that it drives the Yankee to the point of complete arrogance and desire for absolute rule. O Keefe addresses Morgan s shift of power in his work, The Morally Imperative Lie in Twain s Connecticut Yankee, stating that Hank Morgan is a malignant (if not totalitarian) authority figure (O Keefe). It can be deduced that Morgan uses his power to the highest extent and shows no sympathy as he passes through the various ranks in King Arthur s court. There is even a point where Morgan passes the King, as in the book it was mentioned how [He] was no shadow the king... The king himself was the shadow (Twain 44). It was at this point where The Boss assumes the highest political power. However, he furthermore looked to make changes with his newfound role. He later plans possible intrusions with the Church, the most powerful force at the time. He mentions how people in society see the hand of that awful power, the Roman Catholic Church (Twain 46). • 35. Long Term Species Is The Main Goal Of Conservation Biology 1.1 Conservation genetics Long term species persistence is the main goal of conservation biology, and this has been associated with maintenance of species evolutionary potential (Hamrick et al. 1991), which in turn, is not unconnected with higher levels of genetic variation in the focal species (Frankel and Soule 1981). Therefore, the field of conservation genetics, defined as the application of molecular genetic techniques to the conservation of biodiversity (Frankham 2010), was introduced for accurate understanding of genetic diversity in a focal taxa, and how this can be maintained or amplified, in order to ensure species persistence, even in a changing environment. Population genetic theory (Wright 1969) suggests that small isolated populations will undergo genetic drift, inbreeding and reduced gene flow, resulting in loss of intra population genetic variation, increased genetic differentiation among populations, inbreeding depression and loss of fitness (Barrett and Kohn 1991), leading to extirpation (Reed and Frankham 2003). This is also corroborated from ecological theory that predicted that small populations with small geographical range and poor dispersal capacity have higher extinction risk (Belovsky et al. 1999). Consequently, population size is one of the most important criteria in IUCN criteria for red listing of threatened species (Mace et al. 2008). Clara Schumann was born in 1819, she is also known as one of the most talented musicians in the Romantic era. Being a skilled pianist at such a young age, she excelled throughout her career. Some people only know her as the wife of Robert Schumann, who was also a famous composer in this era. Like Robert, she composed her own music. Clara went through tough obstacles in order to obtain her status. There are many aspects of her life that influenced her and the person she became. To continue, Clara s husband Robert Schumann was unable to compose music after a few years. This is the time that she stepped to make both of their music. Eventually, Robert was diagnosed with depression and had to be taken to a mental asylum. This specific event was very heartbreaking to her and her family. Clara Schumann ... During this era, women had to prove their quality of music was extraordinary. Women were expected to raise a family, not compose music. It was certainly not common at the time to see a woman being a musician. Society was trying to tell her that she was not important enough to go through with her passion. Clara got well known musicians to take her seriously and persuaded them that women could be gifted in music. Clara fought through many assumptions of her and rose to the top. After she became known for being an appreciable pianist, society and male musicians during the period started to see her as an equal. Clara was in a musical society that was entirely conquered by men, getting their praise was a very great point in her life. • 41. California Drought In The United States Compared to more arid areas California has it easy in supply of water. Northern California is a very lush area the issues running through all of California relate to water delivery and recycling. An example of an area not having enough water is Afghanistan. There is only 13 percent of the country that has drinking water available (www.ecorazzi.com). Compared with California the delivery of the water is no drought an issue but it s more of not having water in general. We as California have at least before the drought did not have awareness of the water problem. Most average Californians probably did not know about any water issues. So the idea of conserving was not on their mind. So water smarts were not an aspect of people pre drought. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The people of California are the utmost importance to change. With the support of the people California can do anything. Voting for change is a empowerment the government gives to the people. Many people can play a key role for example California senators and representatives even motors of cities will have the challenge of getting the people heard. Getting the people to support change in this topic it has to be sold to the people. This is a better time then ever to get the support of the people because of the recent drought. Most people are relatively educated or at least aware of issues the drought brung. Knowing that the people are no more the ever ready for change. The obstacle is selling it. The facts need to be shown of the positives a new system would show. As a Northern Californian I have an opinion that the twin tunnels project will not solve anything. It will short term help supply SoCal with sufficient water but at the extent of NorCal. It just moves the problem somewhere else. So in long term it will cause more problems compared to fixing them. A plan needs to be put together that can create a steady movement and supply of water but even a better recycling system. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Catastrophe Model The third instrument measuring anxiety is the Catastrophe model. The purpose of this model is to find the correlation between physiological arousal and cognitive anxiety and the relationship it has with performance (Fazey Hardy, 1988; Hardy 1990). The earliest model dates back to the early 1900s when researchers Yerkes Dodson (1908) conducted a study on mice testing punishment stimulus frequency. Results from the study predicted that very little to no arousal prompts poor performance, moderate arousal prompts average or decent performance and after that performance declines after reaching the optimal level (Hardy and Parfitt 1991). • 43. A Comparison Of The Pantheon And The Parthenon Introduction With just a quick glance at pictures taken from a distance of the front of the Pantheon and the Parthenon, one might conclude that they are the same building or the same design. Both have eight Greek inspired columns topped with metopes and a triangular pediment at the entry portico (front). However, any other view and a closer look would reveal substantial differences. Even the condition of the present buildings would indicate that the buildings are from very different times and, of course, very different locations. The Parthenon The Parthenon is a Greek temple constructed in 447 BC. It was designed by the architect/artist Phidias and commissioned by Perikles after the Peliponnesian War to worship the Greek goddess, Athena. Reed (2005) The building is a classical Greek structure in the Doric order known as a peripteral THE PANTHEON AND THE PARTHENON 2 octastyle Doric temple with Ionic columns. Wikipedia (2017a) The octastyle designation refers to the eight columns at each end of the structure. The building ends also have a second row of six columns at the interior of the outer columns. The interior is divided into two rooms by masonry walls with interior columns in each room. The building was and is famous for its ornate sculpture on the surface of the temple along the frieze and pediments as well as sculptures on the interior of the building, namely the chryselephantine statue of Athena sculpted by Phidias. • 44. Reflection Paper On Rock Climbing Reflection Paper #3 During Week 3, we started our day on the bad side due to the lack of sleep, and the change of weather. Throughout the day our energy level improved as the day went on. The field activity for the day included rock climbing. Discussion of group dynamics, rock climbing technique and leave no traces were brought up through out the day. Group Dynamic The group dynamic was really off since the morning started. Everyone was gloomy and sleepy. I know that I personally slept for four hours the night before . Which leads me to almost thought about just coming to class two hours late just because of how unmotivated my mindset was at the time. Even in the group setting, it was not just me who was low on morale, it was everyone in class too. This can affect our group s energy and it lowered morale and excitement within the rank. Sitting inside and listening to presentation all day long do not help . The idea of going out and moving around have help with our engird level. This is useful for leading group in time of low energy like what we went through that day. Even tourists poke fun at the phrase when they get a chance. Texas is known for the cowboys, saddle, and horses. Although these are just stereotypes, they are slightly true. Texas loves its horses, but it also loves it pride. Like many states, it has a long history before it joined the US. Texasis also a state with many political differences, but it is based around one particular political culture. Political culture is like a culture itself; many beliefs and habits blended into one single community, but involving politics. This is one of the reasons why it has many political views, still until this day. However, as stated before, it is still dominated by the will to protect personal welfare, and no government intervention. In class, we had discussed how Texas is individualistic because of its independence traits. Daniel Elazar describes Texas a the lone star; they are getting help from the government, but in the end, they prefer to be free of control. One enormous example is the right open carry. Texas is perhaps the state who exercises this right the most. In 1955, the act was carried and boy, did Texas loved this law. They felt independent, and like if they were their own protection. They did not need any form of police force, or the under thought that the government was there to help them. They were in control of their safety, and will act upon any dangerous encounter. Furthermore, Texas also love to put that sign, Trespassers will be shot . It is not uncommon to hear a case in court in which an intruder was shot by a shotgun by the owner, and the citizen is protected by law. There is a national presumption that Texas loves guns, and they aren t far off. However, guns is a symbol of freedom, and the feeling to be free from any sort of protection of law enforcement is a breather for Texans. • 47. Imagination In The Mark On The Wall, By W. B. Yeats After losing considerably in the war, people had to begin to decide for themselves what was important. Their identity had been marred by reality and the only way to fix this was to shed their old priorities and construct new ones. Among these priorities were: creativity, originality, and possibility. Imagination is simple because one can access it from anywhere. For this reason, authors utilize it often. This is evident in Virginia Woolf s, The Mark on the Wall and W. B. Yeats s, Sailing to Byzantium. Woolf s narrator claims, I can think sitting still as well as standing up which is only made possible by imagination (Woolf 2148). Similarly, Critics writing on [Yeats s] poem have perceived Byzantium as, variously, a representation of the imagination, the imaginative act, the soul, the vision, and Unity of Being (Pruitt 225). Of course this Byzantium Yeats references is only one in the mind slightly based off of memory. This corresponds with Woolf s work and how she uses memory as a beginning point and, therefore...in remembering the event the narrator is transported back to the scene so that it seems to her to be happening in the present, or happening over and over (Cyr 199). Likewise, in Sailing to Byzantium the reader is invited, to contemplate such an ideal location, projecting it over the past, present, and what is to come as if it too, is out of the reach of time because it is constantly occurring in the imagination (Tucker 68). • 48. The Masses And The Dystopian Novel Elysium Essay The connection between these texts is they all feature compliancy of the masses, and all feature in some form of dystopian worlds. The texts all feature varying forms of dystopia, Bioshock features a dystopia brought on by evolutionary war, whereas brave new world features a world where the state has unlimited control over the technology and the people that rely on it. Paragraph 1 In Elysium, the film has an imaginary space station called Elysium this station hold only the most elite people, everybody else lives in a worldwide slum down on earth. The people on earth all just try to survive those who have jobs are forced to preform back braking labour for a minuscule pay, most just accept this fact and occupy themselves with trying to survive. This is the compliancy of the masses and the dystopian element in Elysium the fact that all these people lie down and let the elitists walk all over them is depressing. The author seems to be suggesting that humans will always treat each other poorly and that as people get more power they are more willing to risk human life for their own benefit. And the author is also showing how if we allow the masses to become complacent with poor living conditions society will fall into dystopia. Mr Blomkamp made these ideas apparent by the use of grimy conditions in the film, he also showed the risk people are put in by having a man fully exposed to lethal amounts of radiation and his co workers being forced to continue production without ... Nike Hyperdunk Ad Analysis Gay Page 5 of 6 ZOOM Bennett ReissEnglish 1110Primary Source AnalysisIn 2008, Nike posted various advertisements for their Hyperdunk basketball sneakers across Harlem. These ads were quickly met with heavy criticism, as many people interpreted the ads as being homophobic. The aforementioned ad features the offensive player posterizing the defender. In layman s terms, the player with the ball ferociously dunks on the defender. The position of the two players gets interesting, as the crotch of the offensive player is essentially on the defender s face. This positioning conceals the majority of the defender s head, with exception to his hair. Based off of lighting and shadows, the viewer can assume that the defender is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I feel like the fact that there aren t any facial features further supports the claim of homophobia, as this advertisement clearly isn t about basketball. To further the damage, Nike placed That Ain t Right directly over the the area with the defender s face and the dunker s crotch. The aforementioned message is written in large, white block letters, essentially taking up about one third of the entire ad. After putting all of these aspects together, every single time one views this advertisement they are drawn to the spectacle of the dunker s genitalia in the defender s face. Immediately after registering this though, they are then drawn to That Ain t Right and that s essentially all there is to this advertisement. The end product of this advertisement is the viewer seeing a subtly homosexual act and proceeding to link that concept with That Ain t Right. This advertisement speaks out against the tantalizing issue of homosexuals in sports, and continues to belittle homosexuals while sending the message that they don t belong in sports. This is extremely frustrating, as this advertisement represents the battle that gay athletes have continuously fought, and to this day have made little progress. This issue is extremely political, especially in the world of sports. Players should be given equal opportunities, regardless of their sexual orientation. With the representation of all identities growing in different forms of media, superhero comic books have picked up this trend and have begun to introduce characters with diverse backgrounds. Due to the previously mentioned occurrence, readers of different creeds, sexual orientation, and ethnicities are being introduced to the world of superheroes. With this new trend, many questions arise concerning the impact and necessity of underrepresentation and fairness. Superheroes such as Miles Morales, Kenan Kong, and Jaime Reyes taking the title of Spiderman, Super Man, and Blue Beetle all have one thing in common; they epitomize an underrepresented ethnic and racial community. Axel Alonso, the creator of the half Hispanic, half black Spider Man (Miles Morales), explains, Miles is but one face in a diverse landscape of heroes that includes Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), Sam Wilson (Captain America) and Amadeus Cho (the Hulk), and offers readers of all creeds and colors a chance to see their own reflection (Moreno, 2016, para. 10). Just like the creation of Batwoman, Miles Morales creation is due to the fact that creators wanted to be able to reach every member of their audience. However, often lost in the intersection between superheroes and science fiction is the place race occupies in the genre, and when it is addressed, the discussion frequently turns to framing the genre as racially biased, (Nama, 2008, p. 134). For these reasons, many comic book creators refrain from addressing these issues, since it may lead to them being accused of conforming to a stereotype. Even so, the audience for comics is a truly multicultural one; in fact, it is more ethnically diverse than are the heroes the young people read about (Brown, 1999, p. ... • 52. The Science of Soccer Soccer is my favorite sport. Soccer is a sport played between two teams of eleven players with a circle shaped ball. This game is played on a rectangle shaped field with a goal at each end. The object of the game is to score by using any part of the body (besides arms and hands) to get the soccer ball into the opposing goal. There are so many things that go into making a soccer game function. Science, math, and many other things help this game run properly. Weight and massplay a big part in soccer. Weight is a forcethat is always directed towards the center of the earth. The weight of an average MLS (major league soccer) ball is about one pound. If the ball weighs more than it s supposed to, then it will be harder to kick. If a player is weighs more, than their kick is going to be a lot harder but, they will be slower than the lighter kids. A soccer ball is hollow and inflated with high pressure air. The weight of the ball is distributed on single point the outside. Most of us think of the weight a collected and acting through a single point called the center of gravity. The center of gravity is the average location of the weight of an object. The center of gravity on a soccer ball is located in the exact middle of the ball. When the ball is in flight the ball rotates around the center of gravity. Friction prevents the ball from rolling on forever. The ball rubs against the ground which causes resistance. That resistance slows the ball down. Eventually, no matter ...
