EDUCATION FOR ALL (EFA)
&
K TO 12 INCLUSION POLICY
Lesson 3 : Historical / Sociological
What is Education means for
society?
• Education is the basic building block of every society.
It is the single best investment countries can make to
build prosperous, healthy and equitable societies.
Article 26 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human
Rights states that “Everyone has the right to
education.” Today however, 57 million children remain
out of school. Education is not only a right, but a
passport to human development that opens doors and
expands opportunities and freedoms.
What is Education For All?
• The Education for All movement
is a global commitment to provide
quality basic education for all
children, youth and adults.
Where Education For All
originally come from?
• The movement was launched at the World
Conference on Education for All in 1990 by UNESCO,
UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF and the World Bank.
Participants endorsed an 'expanded vision of learning'
and pledged to universalize primary education and
massively reduce illiteracy by the end of the decade
2005-2015. Ten years later, with many countries far
from having reached this goal, the international
community met again in Dakar, Senegal, and affirmed
their commitment to achieving Education for All.
Six Goals of Education for All
(2015)
• Goal 1: Expand early childhood care and education
• Goal 2: Provide free and compulsory primary
education for all
• Goal 3: Promote learning and life skills for young
people and adults
• Goal 4: Increase adult literacy by 50 percent
• Goal 5: Achieve gender parity by 2005, gender
equality by 2015
• Goal 6: Improve the quality of education
Why is Education For All
important?
• To ensure equal chances for every individual,
there is need for education.
• Education drives economic growth and
productivity; it powers the economy.
• Education enables people to make choices with
information.
• When people are educated, they find better jobs
that break the poverty cycle.
Why is Education For All
important?
• Through education, people come to know each
other and this makes societies less prejudiced.
• People who have been educated tend to be
healthier than those who haven’t been.
• So as to promote peace it tries to deal with deep
rooted social inequalities and build up mutual
understanding through dialogues.
What is K to 12 Inclusion
Policy?
The K to 12 curriculum in the Philippines covers
Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education. The
program aims to provide sufficient time for mastery
of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners,
and prepare graduates for tertiary education,
middle-level skills development, employment, and
entrepreneurship.
Why is K to 12 importance?
• Preparedness for tertiary learning
• Readiness to join the workforce
• Skill competency in the global job market K-12
system aims to improve Filipino students’
mathematical, scientific, and linguistic
competence
