The Eyes of the Skin Analysis
The Eyes of the Skin of Architecture
Juhani Pallasmaa
This book was written by Juhani Pallasmaa with regard to Polemics , on issues that were part of the
architecture discourse of the time, i.e. 1995. It is also an extending of ideas expressed in an essay
entitled Architecture of the seven senses published in 1994.
As suggested by the title, this piece of literature attempts to highlight the importance of sensory
experience in architecture. It is indeed a response to what the author terms as ocularcentrism of
Modern Architecture. Ocularcentrism is the act of prioritizing visual stimuli to all other sensory
stimuli available to a human perception. He quotes famous German poet, Goethe, in his defense, the
hands want to see, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He emphasises on the presence of and an enveloping satisfaction through multi stimuli in nature;
giving an example of a trek through a forest, and the feeling of being within the space of a clearing
invoked by peripheral vision, complete with the crunching of leaves under the feet and sap smell that
surrounds us through the trek.
Building on this starting point Pallasmaa speaks of the importance of the shadow in creating light. He
suggests that it is the nuances of shadows and the dimly lit which actually tickle the senses, and that
Modern Architecture seems to lack this appreciation of the shadow.
Arguing systematically he takes the reader through all the senses in question; namely, hearing, smell,
touch and taste. For each sense he quotes an example from nature, thus describing how it is an
acknowledgement of all senses that completes a space. He talks of registering the speed of wind
through hearing and detecting the temperature of the same through touch.
Furthermore, he links smell with memory and adds that smell is by far one of the strongest mediums
that add to the memory of an experience. He then brings into his argument the presence of man by
discussing, time and the sense of proportion as man is designed to perceive in comparison to his self
and action where man measures through moving within a space.
In conclusion, Pallasmaa discusses the importance of these senses in the design process. He talks of
the distance created

Over 3000 workers of Lockheed Corporation are unionized under the IAM and are always in track
with the labor union. The union has always negotiated in several instances regarding the welfare of the
workers of Lockheed. In 2009, IAM came under much negotiation with the management of Lockheed
at Fort Worth where the corporation manufactures jets. The issues at play in that case were healthcare
costs and pensions where the workers were over 3,900 people in total opposition with the management
of the corporation. At an address to the workers on 19th April, 2009, IAM President promised the
workers that the union would keenly negotiate for a fair and just contract between the members and
the management of Lockheed (Julian Denver, 2011). The core of the matter in this regard emerged out
of the decision by Lockheed s management to announce that it would eliminate pension programs for
new hires and would also increase healthcare costs for all the workers at the corporation s Fort Worth
plant. The IAM Negotiating Committee promised that it would effectively address the issue with the
parties and warned Lockheed against its wrong moves. There were also allegations that the company
was planning to introduce very expensive healthcare plans if the workers rejected the idea of
elimination of the then present healthcare plan (Sears, 2006). In the course

Comparing Krapp s Last Tape And Embers By Samuel Beckett
Suffering: an endless cycle Through the pieces of Krapp s Last Tape and Embers, playwright Samuel
Beckett explores the infallibility of memory and language. Beckett spent time in WWII as a member
of the French Resistance. His duty as part of the resistance was to type and translate information about
the Germans. World War II s influence on Beckett s writing comes through the character s inability to
articulate the conscious self in the language one wishes to express themselves in. To escape the
constrictions of language, Beckett became a playwright. Beckett asks the reader to grapple with their
own existence and their reliance on memory through Krapp, who is unable to remember his past, and
Henry who is unable to forget. With this reliance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a person refuses to see another person, does that person cease to exist? The obvious answer is of
course not. Closing your eyes to someone doesn t make them disappear to the world. They disappear
in your world. So it is essentially becoming nonexistent. This reminds me of a How I Met Your
Mother episode, the one where Lily tells people, You re dead to me and they make the person she s
looking at blow up and vanish. Or the saying if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it
does it still make a sound. Rational thought knows that just because a person states You re dead to me
that they re still alive and very much there, but they also know the feeling of being invisible and
nonexistent to someone. Henry was locked out emotionally from his father, and felt the pain of being
invisible. His father retracted Henry s existence and Embers seems to be about his trying to reclaim
his life without success. He perpetuated his father s attitude towards him. No matter what he tried to
do, he only continued the cycle of

The Concept Of Hinduism And Buddhism
INTRODUCTION TO THE CONCEPT OF HINDUISM AND BUDDHISM
Hinduism is often called one of the oldest living religions or oldest living major traditions amongst
other religions still being practiced currently, this is due to the fact that certain elements within
Hinduism stretches back for thousands of years.
Hinduism is often referred to as Sanatana Dharma , a Sanskrit phrase meaning the eternal law . Also, it
does not have a single definition mostly because it holds a vast array of beliefs and also because it can
be linked to Buddhism, Jainism etc.
Some schools of thoughts do not describe Hinduism as a religion but rather as a way of worship that
informs you about the duties, life style and vision of living established in the Indian subcontinent.
Hinduism is formed from diverse traditions, as such Hinduism does not have a single founder.
Buddhism is a tradition that focuses on personal spiritual development and knowing or attainment of a
deeper insight to the true nature of life. Buddhists do not believe in a personal God, instead in
Buddhism it is believed that nothing is fixed or permanent and that change is inevitable and always
possible.
Buddhists believe that life is endless and subject to suffering and uncertainty. This comes from the
Buddhist school of thought that teaches that existence is endless because individuals are reincarnated
time and time again thus continually experiencing suffering and pain throughout many life times.
There are different schools of

MARKETING ANALYSIS AND STRATEGY RECOMMENDATION FOR STARBUCKS COFFEE
COMPANY
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this report is to conduct market analysis and recommend appropriate marketing
strategies for Starbucks Coffee.
In the report, we will first look into Starbucks s goal, its product and markets. Then we will look into
the key actions and decisions that lead to the success of the company. After that, we will discuss the
issues that Starbucks is facing in this competitive global market. For each strategic issue, appropriate
marketing recommendations for the company are made respectively.
BACKGROUND AND SITUATION ANALYSIS
Starbucks Coffee starts in 1971 with a single store in Seattle s Pike Place Market. Today, they are
privileged to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This implies that the most important target market for Starbucks are people within this age group. The
two largest ethnic groups in the U.S. are white 81.7%, black 12.9% and Asian 4.2%. (CIA World
Factbook) The ethnic background is important to a company because it influences tastes, trends,
perceptions, values and beliefs of an individual.
_ECONOMICAL FACTORS_
Estimated GDP in 2004 was $11.75 trillion. GDP real growth rate was 4.4% (CIA World Factbook).
The growth rate of GDP suggests that the economy is growing, and therefore there is opportunity for
Starbucks to expand business. A very large per capita purchasing power parity of $40,100 suggests
that Americans have the opportunity to buy specialty coffee drinks from an expensive, quality
intensive organization such as Starbucks (CIA World Factbook).
_3.4 TECHNOLOGICAL FACTORS_
Strategic issues that will challenge Starbucks in the future are related to their tight control and lack of
flexibility, organizational structure, and diversification. First, Starbucks is vertically integrated as they
buy and roast the beans, ship them to the stores, produce, and sell the coffee. They may face
difficulties or have to raise the price of their coffee if the cost of raw beans increases, or there is a
decrease in available labor.
The second issue is that they are centralized around controlling all steps of the distribution

In the Japanese culture it is common for business people to ask direct questions with a new person

Auditioning for the Missouri State Band was a high school dream come true for me. The countless
hours of practice and dedication that I put into my audition material made me one of the potential
candidates to have a seat in the ensemble. To have gotten this far meant that I had been selected to
perform in my district band. However, the audition that I had passed for admittance into my district
band did not prepare me for the challenged that I had before me. Behind the door leading into the

scale, every note that my instrument, clarinet, is capable of playing. Something that outside the
audition room that would otherwise seem elementary for me, however, I was incapable of completing

the previous. Finally, one judicator thanks me and I am shown out through the door by the room

preparing for this audition only to fail in a matter of seconds. When the final callbacks were posted
and my name was not listed I was reminded yet again of my failure. However, I knew that this was not
a true indication of my musical talent. I was accepted in my district band and that is what I am still

Because you tend toward excessive individualism at the best of times, consider the impact of your
decision on the whole community. Sometimes an individual actually benefits by restraining autonomy
for the good of the community. As you consider what your duty is, remember that others may see the
situation differently or need different supports to fulfill their duties. As you learn to consider the
perspectives of others in your decision making process, you will live out the best of your ideals with
compassion and care for others. Core Values | At the very highest level, all of values can be placed
along two continua, the tension between valuing the individual and the group, and the tension between
using reason to determine a course of action and following the lead of our intuition, our heart.
Autonomy includes values such as: freedom, diligence, authority, meritocracy, self control, duty,
independence, accountability, responsibility. Equality includes values such as: fairness, justice,
equitable, propriety, evenhandedness, impartiality, unselfishness, balance, and restraint. Rationality

My Passion For Geology
My wanderlust has brought me to venture to multitude of places throughout my life so far. Having
visited the Swiss Alps, Mount Seorak in South Korea and even Mount Kinabalu from back home, had
always left me with an impression of how awe inspiring Mother Nature is. Other than that, I have also

Letter To Birmingham Jail Analysis
Martin Luther King Jr. went to Birmingham not only because he had ties there, but to lead the fight for
freedom. Fighting for the minorities to have freedom meant a lot to Dr. King, not only does it affect
him but if affects the community. He started boycotting the city s segregated public busses and then
became the voice of Americans civil rights movement. While Dr. King was incarcerated in an
Alabama jail he took the time to write back to some clergymen that had questioned his tactics. In
1963, he wrote a letter to help others, specifically the clergymen, to understand that the time they are
living is rough for the minorities especially black Americans. He called it a phase and that soon it will
work its self out so that everybody will respect one another and things will be different. Although
King knew everybody was against the blacks of the community and him, he used natural law and
getting to know the people that are truly there to help them was used to show they were on their own

Benefits Of The Dice Game
Introduction
Dice game is one of the easiest and convenient games played around the world. It can be played under
any circumstances, quietly or in a noisy place. One can play alone, with a friend or in a group of
friends. It is very beneficial as it improves learning number as well as addition skills (Knizia, 2010)
.The Dice game is one of the oldest of all the games in the world. Records reveal that it has been
played since more than 5,000 years ago. It has been thought to have originated from Egypt and was
very popular with the ancient roman people. It is also a very versatile game (Liberman, 2013(.
Although it may require some level of skill, it can be played by a totally unskilled person on the basis
of luck. It is very flexible and can be played anywhere, on a table, on the floor etc. furthermore, it does
not discriminate players on any basis, be it age, sex or social groups. Anybody, from the age of three

Therefore, if a parent does not want their child overly exposed to violence cable television should not

Sedentary Lifestyle In America
The sedentary lifestyle of so many Americans is really starting to concern me. The average American
now spends more than 8 hours sitting every day. Is this you? That is 122 days per year of sitting!! I
firmly believe that all this sitting is exacting a serious, and previously misunderstood, toll on our
bodies. We have moved from an active, agricultural lifestyle to one of offices and automation. Every
aspect of our day from our meals (drive thru s, delivery) to our jobs (computers) to our home life (TV,
remote controls, computers, shopping online) to our entertainment (plush theater seats) has been
tailored with one priority in mind, our comfort.
Yet, the feeling of comfort is not what people walking though our doors are describing to me. Many
(young and old) are describing what I know to be the repercussions of sedentary behavior resulting in
the muscular compensations and imbalances that follow.
We all must understand that sitting for 8 hours a day can easily put us in the category of sedentary. ...

Becoming An Advanced Mage
Lin Xian had no idea of the effect his honest reply had on the three women before him, nor did he
understand the implications of what he just said. The thoughts running through the minds of the
women were entirely different from his own. An Advanced Mage that did not appear to be older than
20 and not part of any faction was inconceivable! In and of itself, becoming a Mage was a difficult
thing to do. To begin with, someone aspiring to be a mage needed the proper disposition and ability.
Not everyone possessed the determination required to invest significant amounts of time and effort.
Even with those qualities, succeeding at every step necessary to become a Mage was not guaranteed.
Secondly, they needed an ungodly amount of resources. Magi needed to expand their mental space and
force through constant battle. During these battles, a Mage would often become heavily injured, and
tending to these wounds required various healing items or pills. Without proper healing, these injuries
would become hidden and accumulate, making advancement to higher levels much more challenging.
To accomplish all of this without the aid of a faction was something that no one would even attempt.

Essay on Elizabeth s Strength of Character in Pride and...
Elizabeth s Strength of Character in Pride and Prejudice
In her novel, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen used the character of Elizabeth Bennet to epitomize the
harmonious balance between reason and emotion in a woman, making her a truly admirable and
attractive character.
Elizabeth s strength of character is emphasized by its contrast with the weak, naive acceptance of Jane
s, the instability and excess of Mrs. Bennet s and the blind, weak willed following of Kitty s. Her
strength is also shown in her rejections of the proposals of Mr. Collins and Darcy. Unlike her mother,
she does not base her choice of lovers on the financial security they will give her, and has the strength
to reject them. This is especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elizabeth also expresses her rebellion against society by taking little trouble to become accomplished,
as young ladies were expected to then. She devotes little time to becoming skilled at playing the piano,
and has not learnt drawing at all.
Elizabeth s intelligence reveals her to be one of the few reasoning characters of the novel, a sensible
individual in a society largely composed of fools. In this way, this attribute was less a product of the
civilization of her immediate society than of the civilization of the Enlightenment that emphasized the
importance of reason in life and served to educate Elizabeth. As the daughter of Mr. Bennet, her view
of society is a cynical, ironic one, heightened by the presence of brainless family members and
neighbors. It is her sense of irony that enables her to survive in such a society, as she enjoys the humor
of the ridiculous pomposity of Mr. Collins as her father does. [I disagree with the introduction here. A
sense of irony gives Mr. Bennet the ability to survive a disastrous marriage, but Elizabeth does not
share such emotional detachment she is engagé .] However, she does not employ as insulting a tone as
her father does, but chooses to define it as impertinence . After Darcy s proposal is accepted, Darcy
tells her that one of the reasons why he fell in love with her was the liveliness of your mind , showing
that her intelligence adds to her charms as she uses it in the form of [gd.] wit rather

Introduction to Prokaryotes Lab Report
Introduction to Prokaryotes in Different Temperature Environments
Angelina Orozco
Biology 1108
Wednesday 7:30 am
Abstract
Prokaryotes are single celled organisms that can survive in extreme environments. Bacteria is the
more numerous type of prokaryotes. The group hypothesizes that the samples taken from different
environments will all cultivate diverse morphology in fast growing rates in each environment. The
aseptic technique was used to cultivate bacteria from different environments. The diversity of
morphology and the growing rate of the bacteria was different in each environment.
Introduction
Prokaryotes are the oldest known life forms, having existed for the last 3.5 billion years. Microscopic
in size, they are single celled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every environment sample had its own growth rate and bacteria diversity. The primary reason may be
that conditions are rarely optimum. Scientists who study bacteria try to create the optimum
environment in the lab: culture medium with the necessary energy source, nutrients, pH, and
temperature, in which bacteria grow predictably. Most of the strains used in the classroom either
require oxygen for growth or grow better with oxygen. These bacteria will grow better on agar plates,
where air readily diffuses into the bacterial colony, or in liquid cultures that are shaken. Since
diffusion of oxygen into liquid depends on the surface area, it is important to have a large surface;
volume ratio. This means that cultures will grow best in flasks in which the volume of liquid is small
relative to the size of the vessel. Also another factor that affects growth is the nutritional medium.
Bacteria grow best when optimal amounts of nutrients are provided.

Theme Of Oedipus Rex And The Kite Runner
Over the history of man, stories have been told in many fashions, but even through all that time some
basic elements of storytelling hold true. For example, even though Oedipus Rex and The Kite Runner
were written hundreds of years and hundreds of miles apart, they still have similarities. They both use
irony, suspense and other writing methods to present a story in an entertaining and thought provoking
way. Also, between the two books they share major themes. The Kite Runner and Oedipus Rex share
the theme of guilt and shame, as illustrated in the stories ironies, climax, and by the protagonist
actions.
Both stories are full of ironies that contribute to the guilt and shame theme. Oedipus Rex is a prime
example of using dramatic irony to drive a story. Since the audience back when the drama was
released, they would have known the outcome of the story. So, throughout the story the audience
knows that he is guilty, as Oedipus follows down a path that will lead to this horrific realization. Much
of this dramatic irony is what makes the guilt he feels at the end all the more painful, for the audience
wishes does not find out. Also Oedipus s own accusations and condemnation against those guilty of
the murder is ironic when he discovers that he is guilty. Likewise, The Kite Runner uses irony to
further Amir s grief. The biggest form of irony in the book is the fact that Hassan was Amir s half
brother. This adds an additional level of shame for Amir. Now, not only does

Comparing Gary Paulsen s Hatchet And Eragon
For summer reading, I read Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen, and Eragon, by Christopher Paolini. I chose to
do this report about Hatchet, because I felt that it had more impact on me as I was reading it. I also
like reading survival themed novels. Hatchet is a story about survival. 13 year old Brian Robson, a
city boy, gets his whole life turned around when a plane that he is flying in crashes, leaving him
stranded in the harsh Alaskan wilderness, with nothing but a hatchet to aid him in his quest for
survival. The social setting of this book has a huge impact on this story. To start, his parents are filing
for divorce. This often leaves Brian mad, sad, and confused. He wanted to know why his parents are

Crime Statistics Comparison
Comparison of Crime Statistics
Crime statistics endeavour to provide statistical measures of crime in societies. They provide a point
of analysis and comparison, allow countries to form long term patterns and trends and can help to
develop and reform criminal justice policies as well as being more meaningful than raw numbers.
Using the countries of Bahrain and the United States as a comparison point for the following issues
which surround crime statistics such as biases, agendas and general influences like education and
religion; this essay will be focused around analysing the statistical factors and wider influences which
can allow a country to have low or high crime rates.

Wider Influences:
Bahrain is a country which operates on all levels in relation to the teachings of the Qur an. This makes
up the fabric of life for the Bahraini people, the influence of the Islamic religion can be seen in the
economic, political and social pathways of life within the culture of the country. In Bahrain, religion is
the most important structure. The Islamic religion opposes wrongdoing in all its forms and that any
wrongdoing can lead to the downfall of society. The teachings of the Prophet attempt to get rid of all
forms of crime before it happens by influencing the individuals who follow the religion. Acts against
the law therefore is not only a crime against society in the eyes of Bahraini people it is also a violation
of the principles of God. In Bahrain there are even moral police officers who regulate the dress and
public behaviour of citizens (Helal, 1991). As the Qur an provides the basis for society, it also
provides the base for which laws are made. All laws however have major influence from the Western
cultures, apart from marriage, divorce and succession which all fall under the Shari ah. (Souryal,
1988)Therefore religion is a major influence

Thomas Anderson Nationalism Summary
Anderson recognizes the difficulty that arises from attempting to define nation, nationality and
nationalism. Despite its influence on modern life Anderson s aim in this essay is to prove that
nationalism is a created by cultural artefacts . He proposes that a nation is an imagined political
community . This imagined community does not require face to face interactions between its
members. Anderson then goes on to discuss what he terms the cultural roots of which these ideologies
stemmed from. He says the dwindling down of religious beliefs was responsible for the creation of
nationalism and the concept of a nation. My interpretation of this is that because the unifier that
previously existed (religion) was ebbing a new unifier needed to be put into place, thus the concept of
nationalism was created. He points out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One interesting topic that is discussed in this essay is the role that black and white abolitionists and the
civil war played in the creation of Americanism. The Civil War, they say, has relevance because it
brought the two opposing ideas of American identity into conflict. Kazin and McCartin argue that it
was not until the nation s leaders thought the conflict would tear the nation apart that they decided the
solution was Americanization. The authors continue by discussing historical events and happenings
which fluctuated or aided to Americanism such as the issue of immigration, WWI, the Vietnam War
and WWII. The argument proposed in this essay was less apparent to me that that which was proposed
in the Andersons essay. However, what I made of the essay was that the authors recognize that
inequality exists in the United States but they also recognize that there must be some common ground.
Something has to unify the country and that is where Americanism comes into

The Renaissance And The Italian Renaissance
The Renaissance period is known for the revival of the classical art and intellect born in ancient
Greece and Rome. The Renaissance is also a time that is marked by growth, exploration, and rebirth.
The Italian Renaissance started in Florence and progressively made its way into Venice and then into
the great city of Rome. During the Renaissance, Rome was home to some of the most renowned works
of art and the finest architectural masterpieces in the world too many that still holds true today. Along
with the delicate architecture and grand artistry, Rome was also home to a mixture of people and
cultures. It is in this cultural context and through the book A Street Life in Renaissance Rome: A Brief
History with Documents, that understanding how men, woman, and specifically Jews and Christians
lived in Rome becomes important to better understand this period of renewal. Men who were Catholic
in Rome during this period, by far, had the easiest part. For the most part, they had jobs, they were
able to hold property and they could vote. They were also the heads of the households, the owners of
businesses, and often could be seen in brothels. If a man were to go pay for a prostitute nothing was
ever said, men could sleep around with as many women as he desires. Men were also seen less at fault
than women. For example, in Document 11, it presents the testimony from a rape trial. The outcomes
of this trial are still unknown, however, and an important piece is in the preface when

The Icon Of Grease Will Never Lose Devotion
The Icon of Grease Will Never Lose Devotion For a movie released in 1978 it still holds true to the
drama of high school and the cliche of summer love. Grease became a classic for the same reasons as
American Graffiti, it explored the life of teens and culture during the fifties. The film director Randal
Kleiser cast a previous academy award nominee, John Travolta and rising Australian star Olivia
Newton John and it now is the epitome of their careers. The musical is a romantic comedy that takes
place in the late fifties with a summer fling between greaser Danny Zuko and good girl Sandy. They
parted with the conclusion of summer, but when school resumes, they find themselves attending the
same high school. It follows Danny and Sandy as well as the perspective friend groups the t birds and
pink ladies. Grease is a musical that is both iconic and forever relatable with it s lively music, dancing,
humor and simple story lines. Some would consider the casting in Grease to be a flaw because they
are meant to portray teenagers and all the main actors and actresses were well into their twenties.
Stockard Channing, who played Rizzo was thirty three when they began filming, Olivia Newton John
was twenty eight, and John Travolta was twenty three. They cast doesn t even look like they could be
high school students, but I think it was worth it to be able to include good actors and actresses.
Furthermore, from the feminist perspective the movie is categorized as bad because of the

Huckleberry Finn Rising Action Essay
The novel Huckleberry Finn occurred generally in Missouri. Huck and Jim traveled down the
Mississippi River, therefore they would then fortuitously enter states along the River. These states
could include but were not limited to Illinois and Arkansas. The time in which the novel was
foreshadowing was probably the early 1800 s.
The five essential parts of a plot are the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.
In this story the exposition consisted of the narrator telling us a little info about his previous book and
how Huck had accumulated 6,000 dollars. Also it told us about how the Widow Douglas was trying to
civilize Huckleberry. As well, it enlightened us on the fact that Tom Sawyer had a gang and that
Huckleberry was a part of it. This gang contained Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, Ben Rodgers, Jo
Harper, and 2 or 3 other boys. The rising action in this story had many interesting and exhilarative
events take place. First, Pap, Huck s father, had heard that Huck had inherited 6,000 dollars, and he
decided that since he was his father he was entitled to that money. So when he arrived there, the Judge
said that he could not obtain the substantial amount of money. With this abrasive information, Pap
decided that he would abduct Huck, and hide him in a cabin from the rest of the town. The second

Business concerns of firms are channeled more often through formal by BAs to state agencies. Firms
through their BAs make inputs into budget and other policy on formalized basis. Moreover, strong
formal relationship between the executive and BAs such as the investors advisory council have helped
firms stay close to government and bureaucracy. Overall, their findings contribute to understanding
that link between an effective state business relations and economic performance. Their paper adds to
the work done by Qureshi and te Velde (2007) by investigating the key determinants of firm
performance and also assessing the relationship between an effective SBR and firm productivity in
Ghana. The results of their study stress the need for an enabling environment for the private sector.
Experiences from East and Southeast Asian economies have also shown that investment and
productivity growth critically hinges on an effective and vibrant private sector underpinned by a sound
investment climate. Promoting a sound investment climate is one of the core responsibilities of the

growth and poverty reduction. Markets are good but are not without flaws. Thus, in order for

The Importance of Following Orders in the Army
There are many reasons why a soldier should follow the orders they are given and every single one is
important. An order is a tasking given to a soldier of something that needs to be done in a timely and

The key to all of teamwork, leading, and following is adhering to the instructions of those appointed
over you which brings me to my next point. As soldiers we are drilled almost everyday to listen to

more time in service. We are taught discipline from day one in basic training when we hit the ground
the first time doing pushups to the last right face in the last ceremony before we see our families.
Discipline is crucial to following orders effectively, without it soldiers would not react fast enough to
what is being said or would simply not care enough about the task at hand to perform it, weakening
the team it self. We follow our commands from higher because we know that whatever decision it is it

Wind Therapy: The Cure for a Mid Life Crisis
The late humorist, Erma Bombeck (1927 1996) once said, Children make your life important. I
wonder if, when Ms. Bombeck made this claim, she had young children still at home. When my
children were young, they needed much more of my time, which created in me a feeling of
importance; however, as my children became adults, they needed less of my time. When they were
young, my home was always busy and noisy, and I loved it. As the kids grew up, began working,
became more independent, and eventually started moving out, I was left with extra time on my hands.
With fewer people in a home, there were certainly fewer dishes to wash and less laundry to run. A few
years ago, when this transition began, less of my time was spent cleaning, cooking, and rearing
children. With more free time, I had a tendency to worry, and I felt lonely and sort of stuck in the
house. I noticed my anxiety levels creeping up. I looked forward to weekends when my husband
would be home with me and I had someone to socialize with. Enter my mid life crisis! What does one
do to combat the effect of a mid life crisis? One does something reckless, of course. My recklessness
took the form of riding motorcycles. When I decided to take up motorcycle riding, my initial thought
was that I could save money on fuel for daily errands I might run, and I also thought it would be pretty

Music Therapy Reflection
In these last few classes were have talked about dibs, gone over some limit setting, and have music
therapists come to the class. I was really interested in hearing about music therapy because I honestly
did not know anything about it before our guest speakers came in. I was excited to see what it entailed,
and was interested in the audience that they worked with. But when they introduced themselves I
quickly became upset when one of the speakers started talking about the dying children she worked
with. I feel like we should have had a warning that she was going to talk about how she worked with
dying children on a song for their funeral because that was too heartbreaking to handle, especially for
someone who has had a very sick younger cousin who has spent large time spans in the hospital and
have had life threatening complications. On a lighter note, we talked about limit setting in class and I
did find it interesting the rule and regulations that came along with limit setting. I enjoyed the
statement A limit is not needed, until it is needed, because it still allows the autonomy of the children
choosing things while still protecting yourself in situations that are deemed necessary. I did find it
surprising when it was mentioned that some children can spend entire classes setting limits and
making choices on what to do once a limit is not respected. I also like that we talked about how
consistency is key, because that is applicable anywhere in a child s life, they need consistency in their
life to a certain point in order to be well functioning. One of the reading that we did was a print out
combination of powerpoint s and worksheets for limit setting. One new thing that I learned was the
ACT of limit setting, Acknowledge, Communication, and Target. In this the therapist is expected to
acknowledging the child s feelings, State or define the limit, and then provide an alternative for the
child. This made it very clear and helpful to understand how to set a limit in an appropriate and not in
an imaginative limiting way. You acknowledge their feelings and provide them with an alternative to
the behavior that you have deemed unsafe, destructive, etc. I like this because I have tried something

Hidden Truths in The Possibility of Evil” by Shirley...
Underneath a good moral, there could be a hidden truth. In, The Possibility of Evil , Shirley Jackson
shows how the protagonist, Miss Strangeworth presumes she is protecting her neighborhood by
eliminating the evil that exists within her community, but ironically, she is the most evil neighbor of
all. In the beginning, the community considers Miss Strangeworth an old, caring and respected
woman. Throughout the story, a handful of community members realize Miss Strangeworth is a bitter,
insensitive woman, who is creating more evil in the neighborhood. In other words, Miss Strangeworth
s intentions to rid her neighborhood of evil, ultimately has the opposite effect and ironically creates
more dilemma.
To start with, as the story begins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, Miss Strangeworth is considered a respected and caring old woman, which the community can
look up to.
Throughout the story, some community members realize Miss Strangeworth is a bitter and insensitive
old woman, whose intentions to rid of evil backfire and end up creating more trouble for her. Firstly,
Miss Strangeworth writes insensitive and harsh letters to community members, writing letters to her
neighbors with her unwanted opinions. Miss Strangeworth writes a letter to the same young couple
that asks for her guidance, DIDN T YOU EVER SEE AN IDIOT CHILD BEFORE? SOME PEOPLE
JUST SHOULDN T HAVE CHILDREN, SHOULD THEY? (3). Here, Miss Strangeworth expresses
her harsh words to the young couple about their child. She feels like she is giving them the right
advice to raise a child and rid evil from her community, but her harsh words are hurting her neighbors
and creating more trouble for them. Secondly, Miss Strangeworth feels like she is ridding her town of
evil and is the only saviour for the community. Miss Strangeworth thinks it s her duty to keep her
town alert...there were so many wicked people in the world (3). Miss Strangeworth thinks of herself as
the only one attempting to prevent evil as there is too much evil in the world now days. She feels as if
she is doing her job and there is nothing wrong with what she is doing. Lastly, as Miss Strangeworth
thinks very highly of her

My Favorite Poems On The Theme Of Poetry
Together with four classmates in my English class, I created an anthology of five poems on the theme
of Death. The authors of these poems are Alan Seeger, Emily Dickinson, Henry Scott Holland, Pablo
Neruda, and Sylvia Plath. My favorite poem is Death is nothing at all and my favorite authors are
Emily Dickinson and Sylvia Plath.
While going over the poems and learning about the poets, my favorite poem is Death is not all by
Henry Scott Holland. This poem caught my attention because it evokes my thinking. What this poem
is trying to say is that even when you die; your soul stays alive. One of my favorite lines in this poem
is Nothing is past; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before only better,
infinitely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other work that I enjoy from Emily is Success is Counted Sweetest ; this poem talks about not
knowing what you have until it is gone, and not appreciating the things you have. I enjoy this poem
because it is true. It tends to be that those who struggle more to get what they want, tend to appreciate
it more than those who get everything easy. Not everyone appreciates success all the way because
once they have the success they lose the ability to care. I think that when you struggle and go through
rough paths you appreciate more because you will always remember those tough times you had to go
through to be successful.
Another one of my favorite authors in this Anthology was Sylvia Plath. I thought it was amazing how
interested she was in writing, and how she started off with just a journal. Something admirable about
Sylvia is that even though her relationship wasn t great because of personal problems with her
husband; she was still able to publish her first poetry collection, and have her first child. Even though
her relationship was falling apart, she was still able to welcome her second child. What is even more
amazing to me is that even after her husband left her for another woman. She was going through
depression and mental illness, she was able to publish her only novel (The Bell Jar.) It is astonishing
to see how she was able to talk about her life experiences while dealing with a mental

Austins Theory of Sovereignty
John Austin, in his Lectures on Jurisprudence writes : The notion of sovereignty and independent
political society may be expressed concisely thus : If a determinate human superior not in a habit of
obedience to a like superior, receives habitual obedience from the bulk of a given society, that
determinate superior is sovereign in that society: and the society (including the superior) is a society
political and independent . Laws are defined simply as the command of a superior to an inferior. In
Austin s words : Law is the aggregate of rules set by men as politically superior, or sovereign, to men
as political subject . The chief reason for the bulk of a given society rendering habitual obedience to a
determinate human superior is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only a determinate person or body of persons can be sovereign: It means that sovereignty cannot
belong to the general will, as Rousseau said, or to the people or to the public opinion, as it is said by
the advocates of popular sovereignty, or to any superhuman being as is the Islamic view. It belongs to
a determinate human superior, i.e., a definite person or body of persons.
2. The power of the sovereign is legally unlimited or absolute, because the laws which he makes are
obeyed by all, while he himself does not obey any law. Hence there can be no limit to his power. He
makes his own limits. Legally speaking the sovereign is all mighty.
Sovereignty is indivisible: If sovereignty is divided by law between two or more persons or bodies of
persons, then one of the two things would happen. Either one of them will limit the authority of the
other, and thus become the real sovereign, or any other person in a body of MONIST AND
PLURALIST THEORIES OF SOVEREIGNTY. Person who has legally limited the authority of the
others would become the real sovereign. It means, therefore, that sovereignty may be formally
distributed, but cannot be really divided. This is the case in a federal State.
3. State is such a society which is organized by rule and obedience. A law is a command calling for
obedience. State exists only when there is sovereignty and subjection or obedience to the law or
command of the sovereign. Sovereignty is as necessary in the State as

The Importance Of Games In Soccer
El Salvador fans then had the home field advantage and returned the favor by harassing the Honduran
players and fans. Salvadoran fans caused noise in the streets to keep the Honduran players awake just
like the Hondurans did to them. This included the screaming crowd of fans breaking all the windows
in the hotel and throwing rotten eggs, dead rats and stinking rags inside (Carter, 2011). Come game
time there were riots in the stadium with violence between the two sets of fans. El Salvador even
decided to raise a tampered rag instead of the Honduras flag that cause uproar among Honduran fans.
During all the violence, two Honduran fans were murdered throughout the game time festivities. The
El Salvador National Team won the second leg ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only a few days later El Salvador, who had had enough of Honduran violence, committed an act of
war against Honduras officially beginning the war. Rouquié and Vale (1973) recount the war in the
International Journal of Politics. Following the breaking off of all ties between the two countries,
numerous other Central American countries pushed for mediation. This did not help and on June 26,
1969, El Salvador enacted a surprise air raid attack followed by a ground attack on July 14th. The goal
of this surprise attack was to attempt to gain as much land and major cities as fast as possible. For a
geographically small country such as El Salvador, it was important to push Honduras back quickly.
Additionally El Salvador hoped to at least control the land that many Salvadoran immigrants owned
within the Honduras boarder. Following the bombings, El Salvador used their far more powerful army
to invade on the ground, quickly claiming about sixty kilometers of land. Despite lacking in military
strength, the geography of Honduras and the support from civilians helped in slowing down the
Salvadoran army. The following day the Organization of American States (OAS) held an emergency
meeting in which they requested El Salvador to discontinue their attack on Honduras. The
Organization of American States was a coalition of Latin American countries and the

  • 2. The Eyes of the Skin Analysis The Eyes of the Skin of Architecture Juhani Pallasmaa This book was written by Juhani Pallasmaa with regard to Polemics , on issues that were part of the architecture discourse of the time, i.e. 1995. It is also an extending of ideas expressed in an essay entitled Architecture of the seven senses published in 1994. As suggested by the title, this piece of literature attempts to highlight the importance of sensory experience in architecture. It is indeed a response to what the author terms as ocularcentrism of Modern Architecture. Ocularcentrism is the act of prioritizing visual stimuli to all other sensory stimuli available to a human perception. He quotes famous German poet, Goethe, in his defense, the hands want to see, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He emphasises on the presence of and an enveloping satisfaction through multi stimuli in nature; giving an example of a trek through a forest, and the feeling of being within the space of a clearing invoked by peripheral vision, complete with the crunching of leaves under the feet and sap smell that surrounds us through the trek. Building on this starting point Pallasmaa speaks of the importance of the shadow in creating light. He suggests that it is the nuances of shadows and the dimly lit which actually tickle the senses, and that Modern Architecture seems to lack this appreciation of the shadow. Arguing systematically he takes the reader through all the senses in question; namely, hearing, smell, touch and taste. For each sense he quotes an example from nature, thus describing how it is an acknowledgement of all senses that completes a space. He talks of registering the speed of wind through hearing and detecting the temperature of the same through touch. Furthermore, he links smell with memory and adds that smell is by far one of the strongest mediums that add to the memory of an experience. He then brings into his argument the presence of man by discussing, time and the sense of proportion as man is designed to perceive in comparison to his self and action where man measures through moving within a space. In conclusion, Pallasmaa discusses the importance of these senses in the design process. He talks of the distance created ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 2009, IAM came under much negotiation with the management of Lockheed at Fort Worth where the corporation manufactures jets. The issues at play in that case were healthcare costs and pensions where the workers were over 3,900 people in total opposition with the management of the corporation. At an address to the workers on 19th April, 2009, IAM President promised the workers that the union would keenly negotiate for a fair and just contract between the members and the management of Lockheed (Julian Denver, 2011). The core of the matter in this regard emerged out of the decision by Lockheed s management to announce that it would eliminate pension programs for new hires and would also increase healthcare costs for all the workers at the corporation s Fort Worth plant. The IAM Negotiating Committee promised that it would effectively address the issue with the parties and warned Lockheed against its wrong moves. There were also allegations that the company was planning to introduce very expensive healthcare plans if the workers rejected the idea of elimination of the then present healthcare plan (Sears, 2006). • 5. Comparing Krapp s Last Tape And Embers By Samuel Beckett Suffering: an endless cycle Through the pieces of Krapp s Last Tape and Embers, playwright Samuel Beckett explores the infallibility of memory and language. Beckett spent time in WWII as a member of the French Resistance. His duty as part of the resistance was to type and translate information about the Germans. World War II s influence on Beckett s writing comes through the character s inability to articulate the conscious self in the language one wishes to express themselves in. To escape the constrictions of language, Beckett became a playwright. Beckett asks the reader to grapple with their own existence and their reliance on memory through Krapp, who is unable to remember his past, and Henry who is unable to forget. With this reliance ... Closing your eyes to someone doesn t make them disappear to the world. They disappear in your world. So it is essentially becoming nonexistent. Or the saying if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it does it still make a sound. Rational thought knows that just because a person states You re dead to me that they re still alive and very much there, but they also know the feeling of being invisible and nonexistent to someone. Henry was locked out emotionally from his father, and felt the pain of being invisible. • 6. The Concept Of Hinduism And Buddhism INTRODUCTION TO THE CONCEPT OF HINDUISM AND BUDDHISM Hinduism is often called one of the oldest living religions or oldest living major traditions amongst other religions still being practiced currently, this is due to the fact that certain elements within Hinduism stretches back for thousands of years. Hinduism is often referred to as Sanatana Dharma , a Sanskrit phrase meaning the eternal law . Also, it does not have a single definition mostly because it holds a vast array of beliefs and also because it can be linked to Buddhism, Jainism etc. Some schools of thoughts do not describe Hinduism as a religion but rather as a way of worship that informs you about the duties, life style and vision of living established in the Indian subcontinent. Hinduism is formed from diverse traditions, as such Hinduism does not have a single founder. Buddhism is a tradition that focuses on personal spiritual development and knowing or attainment of a deeper insight to the true nature of life. Buddhists do not believe in a personal God, instead in Buddhism it is believed that nothing is fixed or permanent and that change is inevitable and always possible. Buddhists believe that life is endless and subject to suffering and uncertainty. This comes from the Buddhist school of thought that teaches that existence is endless because individuals are reincarnated time and time again thus continually experiencing suffering and pain throughout many life times. A very large per capita purchasing power parity of $40,100 suggests that Americans have the opportunity to buy specialty coffee drinks from an expensive, quality intensive organization such as Starbucks (CIA World Factbook). _3.4 TECHNOLOGICAL FACTORS_ Strategic issues that will challenge Starbucks in the future are related to their tight control and lack of flexibility, organizational structure, and diversification. First, Starbucks is vertically integrated as they buy and roast the beans, ship them to the stores, produce, and sell the coffee. They may face difficulties or have to raise the price of their coffee if the cost of raw beans increases, or there is a decrease in available labor. The second issue is that they are centralized around controlling all steps of the distribution

Elizabeth s Strength of Character in Pride and Prejudice In her novel, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen used the character of Elizabeth Bennet to epitomize the harmonious balance between reason and emotion in a woman, making her a truly admirable and attractive character. Elizabeth s strength of character is emphasized by its contrast with the weak, naive acceptance of Jane s, the instability and excess of Mrs. Bennet s and the blind, weak willed following of Kitty s. Her strength is also shown in her rejections of the proposals of Mr. Collins and Darcy. Unlike her mother, she does not base her choice of lovers on the financial security they will give her, and has the strength to reject them. This is especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elizabeth also expresses her rebellion against society by taking little trouble to become accomplished, as young ladies were expected to then. She devotes little time to becoming skilled at playing the piano, and has not learnt drawing at all. Elizabeth s intelligence reveals her to be one of the few reasoning characters of the novel, a sensible individual in a society largely composed of fools. In this way, this attribute was less a product of the civilization of her immediate society than of the civilization of the Enlightenment that emphasized the importance of reason in life and served to educate Elizabeth. As the daughter of Mr. Bennet, her view of society is a cynical, ironic one, heightened by the presence of brainless family members and neighbors. It is her sense of irony that enables her to survive in such a society, as she enjoys the humor of the ridiculous pomposity of Mr. Collins as her father does. [I disagree with the introduction here. A sense of irony gives Mr. Bennet the ability to survive a disastrous marriage, but Elizabeth does not share such emotional detachment she is engagé .] However, she does not employ as insulting a tone as her father does, but chooses to define it as impertinence . Every environment sample had its own growth rate and bacteria diversity. The primary reason may be that conditions are rarely optimum. Scientists who study bacteria try to create the optimum environment in the lab: culture medium with the necessary energy source, nutrients, pH, and temperature, in which bacteria grow predictably. Most of the strains used in the classroom either require oxygen for growth or grow better with oxygen. These bacteria will grow better on agar plates, where air readily diffuses into the bacterial colony, or in liquid cultures that are shaken. Since diffusion of oxygen into liquid depends on the surface area, it is important to have a large surface; volume ratio. This means that cultures will grow best in flasks in which the volume of liquid is small relative to the size of the vessel. Also another factor that affects growth is the nutritional medium. Bacteria grow best when optimal amounts of nutrients are provided. • 24. Theme Of Oedipus Rex And The Kite Runner Over the history of man, stories have been told in many fashions, but even through all that time some basic elements of storytelling hold true. For example, even though Oedipus Rex and The Kite Runner were written hundreds of years and hundreds of miles apart, they still have similarities. They both use irony, suspense and other writing methods to present a story in an entertaining and thought provoking way. Also, between the two books they share major themes. The Kite Runner and Oedipus Rex share the theme of guilt and shame, as illustrated in the stories ironies, climax, and by the protagonist actions. Both stories are full of ironies that contribute to the guilt and shame theme. Oedipus Rex is a prime example of using dramatic irony to drive a story. Since the audience back when the drama was released, they would have known the outcome of the story. So, throughout the story the audience knows that he is guilty, as Oedipus follows down a path that will lead to this horrific realization. Much of this dramatic irony is what makes the guilt he feels at the end all the more painful, for the audience wishes does not find out. Also Oedipus s own accusations and condemnation against those guilty of the murder is ironic when he discovers that he is guilty. Likewise, The Kite Runner uses irony to further Amir s grief. The biggest form of irony in the book is the fact that Hassan was Amir s half brother. This adds an additional level of shame for Amir. Now, not only does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Bahrain, religion is the most important structure. The Islamic religion opposes wrongdoing in all its forms and that any wrongdoing can lead to the downfall of society. The Renaissance is also a time that is marked by growth, exploration, and rebirth. The Italian Renaissance started in Florence and progressively made its way into Venice and then into the great city of Rome. During the Renaissance, Rome was home to some of the most renowned works of art and the finest architectural masterpieces in the world too many that still holds true today. Along with the delicate architecture and grand artistry, Rome was also home to a mixture of people and cultures. It is in this cultural context and through the book A Street Life in Renaissance Rome: A Brief History with Documents, that understanding how men, woman, and specifically Jews and Christians lived in Rome becomes important to better understand this period of renewal. Men who were Catholic in Rome during this period, by far, had the easiest part. For the most part, they had jobs, they were able to hold property and they could vote. They were also the heads of the households, the owners of businesses, and often could be seen in brothels. It follows Danny and Sandy as well as the perspective friend groups the t birds and pink ladies. Grease is a musical that is both iconic and forever relatable with it s lively music, dancing, humor and simple story lines. The time in which the novel was foreshadowing was probably the early 1800 s. The five essential parts of a plot are the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. In this story the exposition consisted of the narrator telling us a little info about his previous book and how Huck had accumulated 6,000 dollars. Also it told us about how the Widow Douglas was trying to civilize Huckleberry. As well, it enlightened us on the fact that Tom Sawyer had a gang and that Huckleberry was a part of it. I wonder if, when Ms. Bombeck made this claim, she had young children still at home. When my children were young, they needed much more of my time, which created in me a feeling of importance; however, as my children became adults, they needed less of my time. When they were young, my home was always busy and noisy, and I loved it. As the kids grew up, began working, became more independent, and eventually started moving out, I was left with extra time on my hands. I was excited to see what it entailed, and was interested in the audience that they worked with. I did find it surprising when it was mentioned that some children can spend entire classes setting limits and making choices on what to do once a limit is not respected. I also like that we talked about how consistency is key, because that is applicable anywhere in a child s life, they need consistency in their life to a certain point in order to be well functioning. One of the reading that we did was a print out combination of powerpoint s and worksheets for limit setting. One new thing that I learned was the ACT of limit setting, Acknowledge, Communication, and Target. In this the therapist is expected to acknowledging the child s feelings, State or define the limit, and then provide an alternative for the child. • 42. My Favorite Poems On The Theme Of Poetry Together with four classmates in my English class, I created an anthology of five poems on the theme of Death. The authors of these poems are Alan Seeger, Emily Dickinson, Henry Scott Holland, Pablo Neruda, and Sylvia Plath. My favorite poem is Death is nothing at all and my favorite authors are Emily Dickinson and Sylvia Plath. While going over the poems and learning about the poets, my favorite poem is Death is not all by Henry Scott Holland. This poem caught my attention because it evokes my thinking. What this poem is trying to say is that even when you die; your soul stays alive. One of my favorite lines in this poem is Nothing is past; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before only better, infinitely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other work that I enjoy from Emily is Success is Counted Sweetest ; this poem talks about not knowing what you have until it is gone, and not appreciating the things you have. I enjoy this poem because it is true. It tends to be that those who struggle more to get what they want, tend to appreciate it more than those who get everything easy. Not everyone appreciates success all the way because once they have the success they lose the ability to care. I think that when you struggle and go through rough paths you appreciate more because you will always remember those tough times you had to go through to be successful. Another one of my favorite authors in this Anthology was Sylvia Plath. I thought it was amazing how interested she was in writing, and how she started off with just a journal. Something admirable about Sylvia is that even though her relationship wasn t great because of personal problems with her husband; she was still able to publish her first poetry collection, and have her first child. Even though her relationship was falling apart, she was still able to welcome her second child. What is even more amazing to me is that even after her husband left her for another woman. She was going through depression and mental illness, she was able to publish her only novel (The Bell Jar.) It is astonishing to see how she was able to talk about her life experiences while dealing with a mental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Austins Theory of Sovereignty John Austin, in his Lectures on Jurisprudence writes : The notion of sovereignty and independent political society may be expressed concisely thus : If a determinate human superior not in a habit of obedience to a like superior, receives habitual obedience from the bulk of a given society, that determinate superior is sovereign in that society: and the society (including the superior) is a society political and independent . Laws are defined simply as the command of a superior to an inferior. In Austin s words : Law is the aggregate of rules set by men as politically superior, or sovereign, to men as political subject . The chief reason for the bulk of a given society rendering habitual obedience to a determinate human superior is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only a determinate person or body of persons can be sovereign: It means that sovereignty cannot belong to the general will, as Rousseau said, or to the people or to the public opinion, as it is said by the advocates of popular sovereignty, or to any superhuman being as is the Islamic view. It belongs to a determinate human superior, i.e., a definite person or body of persons. 2. The power of the sovereign is legally unlimited or absolute, because the laws which he makes are obeyed by all, while he himself does not obey any law. Hence there can be no limit to his power. He makes his own limits. Legally speaking the sovereign is all mighty. Sovereignty is indivisible: If sovereignty is divided by law between two or more persons or bodies of persons, then one of the two things would happen. Either one of them will limit the authority of the other, and thus become the real sovereign, or any other person in a body of MONIST AND PLURALIST THEORIES OF SOVEREIGNTY. Person who has legally limited the authority of the others would become the real sovereign. It means, therefore, that sovereignty may be formally distributed, but cannot be really divided. This is the case in a federal State. 3. State is such a society which is organized by rule and obedience. A law is a command calling for obedience. State exists only when there is sovereignty and subjection or obedience to the law or command of the sovereign. Sovereignty is as necessary in the State as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Importance Of Games In Soccer El Salvador fans then had the home field advantage and returned the favor by harassing the Honduran players and fans. Salvadoran fans caused noise in the streets to keep the Honduran players awake just like the Hondurans did to them. This included the screaming crowd of fans breaking all the windows in the hotel and throwing rotten eggs, dead rats and stinking rags inside (Carter, 2011). Come game time there were riots in the stadium with violence between the two sets of fans. El Salvador even decided to raise a tampered rag instead of the Honduras flag that cause uproar among Honduran fans. During all the violence, two Honduran fans were murdered throughout the game time festivities. The El Salvador National Team won the second leg ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only a few days later El Salvador, who had had enough of Honduran violence, committed an act of war against Honduras officially beginning the war. Rouquié and Vale (1973) recount the war in the International Journal of Politics. Following the breaking off of all ties between the two countries, numerous other Central American countries pushed for mediation. This did not help and on June 26, 1969, El Salvador enacted a surprise air raid attack followed by a ground attack on July 14th. The goal of this surprise attack was to attempt to gain as much land and major cities as fast as possible. For a geographically small country such as El Salvador, it was important to push Honduras back quickly. Additionally El Salvador hoped to at least control the land that many Salvadoran immigrants owned within the Honduras boarder. Following the bombings, El Salvador used their far more powerful army to invade on the ground, quickly claiming about sixty kilometers of land. Despite lacking in military strength, the geography of Honduras and the support from civilians helped in slowing down the Salvadoran army. The following day the Organization of American States (OAS) held an emergency meeting in which they requested El Salvador to discontinue their attack on Honduras. The Organization of American States was a coalition of Latin American countries and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
