Who Is Van Gogh A Savage
Since the very young age Van Gogh s art caught my attention. Unique and expressive, Van Gogh
created his pieces to be representations of his mental work and experience. In his painting Dutch
master achieves architectural effects by putting extremely thick paint applications. From my
personal experience it is amazing (I ve seen couple of his works in Russian Hermitage) how he
didn t fear the canvas or paints. People of his epoch, when comparing his works to Monet s
probably thought that Van Gogh is a savage. But this pure energy of a savage had passed through
generations and lives today through many reprints and we study it today. But Van Gogh wasn t just
a savage, he was a master, but he achieved this state of perfection uniquely,

The Cider House Rules Directed By Lasse Hallstrom
Fallible humans are undoubtedly susceptible to forming erroneous judgements or premature
opinions, but it can always be fixed. The Cider House Rules directed by Lasse Hallström is a
film replete with controversial issues still relevant to today, such as abortion, substance abuse, and
morally questionable sexual affairs. I once thought I had critical thinking down perfectly, yet my
reactions to certain parts of the film proved otherwise. On the occasions which I stereotyped
characters, made hasty conclusions, and followed double standards, I recognized numerous
pitfalls within my own critical thinking. When I saw characters that I felt fit a specific category of
people, I often inadvertently stereotyped them to act or be a certain way. Dr. Larch, whom is in
charge of the deliveries and illegal abortions of babies in the orphanage, often abused ether to get
high. Combining the fact that he performed illegal medical procedures, I immediately stereotyped
him as unsympathetic, selfish, and neglectful drug abuser. Because I neglected the contingency of
unaddressed factors, such as experiencing cognitive dissonance or stressing over the demands of
his work, motivating him to behave the way he did, I felt as though my first impressions tend to be
a bit harsh and inconsiderate. Another instance in which I stereotyped was when Homer first
arrives at Wally Worthington s house and family orchard, and it portrays naked black men
showering outside. Without considering the time period and

Essay On Us Foreign Affairs
U.S. Foreign Affairs
The U.S. should rarely be involved with foreign affairs that are international as well as violent.
They should only be involved in specific situations such as when they must save victims in other
countries. Such as the Holocaust and when specific United States Soldiers liberated concentration
camps and save hundreds of thousands of Jewish People, or when the United States decided to take
in refugees from specifically middle eastern countries in war, however the United States needs to
mind their business and not get involved with other countries that are somewhat threatening that we
could possibly get involved with a war with them such as when the U.S. got involved in WWII
which had extremely negative results.

Much like Al Qaeda, the Islamic State (ISIS) is made in the USA, an instrument of terror
designed to divide and conquer the oil rich Middle East and to counter Iran s growing influence
in the region. ( America Created Al Qaeda and the ISIS Terror Group. Global Research,
Sept.2014,www.globalresearch.ca/america created al qaeda and the isis terror group/5402881.)
While the United States was interfering with other nations it resulted with the States not paying
much attention to the Middle East causing a breeding ground for terrorists due to the pre
existential hatred these countries had toward westerners, and directly as a result countries all
around the world are experiencing mass murder terrorist attacks such as the 9 11 attacks which is
when nineteen members of the Islamic terrorist group Al Qaeda perpetrated a devastating, deadly
assault on the United States, crashing airplanes into the Pentagon and the World Trade Center,
killing thousands. These attacks were done by the Al Qaeda which was a major terrorist group
comprised of extremists. The Al Qaeda America s relationship with Al Qaeda has always been a
love hate affair. Depending on whether a particular Al Qaeda terrorist group in a given region
furthers American interests or not, the U.S. State Department either funds or aggressively targets
that terrorist group. Even as American foreign policymakers claim to oppose Muslim extremism,
they knowingly foment it as a weapon of foreign policy.

A Review Of Language Learning Skills Essay
A Review of Language Learning Skills in VoiceThread VoiceThread is a Web 2.0 tool, a cloud
application that gives users many options to communicate. Its unique features give users the
opportunity to communicate by microphone, webcam, text, phone, and audio file upload over a
period of time (VoiceThread, 2016). VoiceThread supports users ongoing communication, and it is
used by teachers in languagelearning classrooms. It aids language teachers by providing a platform
to present, submit, and evaluate language learning lessons and activities which are based on
language learning skills. Specifically, VoiceThread aids teachers when teaching language learning
skills such as listening, speaking, communicative competence and interaction. All of these skills are
equally important for the skilldevelopment of L2 English language learners, however, the ability to
utilize listening skills in this application is the foundation for language learners to respond, speak,
interact, and communicate using VoiceThread. In that sense, listening skills are necessary for
effective interactions in VoiceThread. Explicitly, learners need to use their listening skills in order
to understand and communicate with other learners in VoiceThread. Aisha Walker and Goodith
White echoes this idea when they list all of the listening skills that are needed to understand and
respond to a spoken message in their book, Technology Enhanced Language Learning: Connecting
theory and practice. The

France s Bill Of Rights Document Analysis
Freedom and justice are what England s Bill of Rights, France s Declaration of Rights for Men,
and America s Bill of Right all have in common. All three countries did not like the rules or
leaders at the time thus, revolutions against them occurred. Then, these documents were created
because people wanted change. The first of the three is England s Bill of Rights which inspired
America s Declaration of Independence, which lead to France s Declaration of Right for Men.
Furthermore, I will explain the contents of each document, how all three documents relate to one
another, and which of these I would prefer to live under. The Bill of Rights of England was passed
on December 1689 presented by Parliament to William and Mary. Parliament

It is our contention that RM is inherently an ethical activity, since enduring relationships cannot be
built or sustained without a solid moral foundation. Before moving on, it is important to define
and clarify our view of relationship marketing. As Kotler and Keller (2006), Gummesson (1999)
and others have stated, RM has the aim of building mutually satisfying long term relations with key
parties customers, suppliers, distributors in order to earn and retain their businesses. Norberg
(2001) listed 14 definitions of RM taken from the literature during the last 15 years. Most of the
definitions indicate that there are separate phases of a relationship such as its foundation and
maintenance. Furthermore, elements like trust, equity and involvement tend to foster this bond and
contribute to long term partner satisfaction. This paper is divided into four parts. First, we examine
the historical roots of relationship marketing. The second section characterizes both the American
and European views on RM. Third, we present a model of ethical relationship marketing and discuss
its components. Within the model, the theory of virtue and several relevant virtues that we believe
are essential for successful RM are examined. In the subsequent discussion, we lay the groundwork
for those who might attempt to measure the presence of these characteristics in business and
consumer partnerships that have been claimed to be successful. Finally, we draw implications for

Carly Fiorina Research Paper
Many times it is debated what makes the best president for America. Maybe the ultimate leader
is brash and honest like Donald Trump, or the leader believes in helping the middle class, like
Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. The ideal leader, however, is instead a woman with many
leadership characteristics and experience. She is a woman of confidence and of charity. This
leader, the sole candidate that can maintain America s status as a powerful society, is Carly
Fiorina. Carly Fiorina is a confident business leader with experience at Hewlett Packardwho also ran
many charitable organizations, such as Opportunity International. Because of this, she is the best

capable candidate to take on the responsibility of maintaining America s status as a powerful

Comparing The Lowest Animal And A Time Of Gifts
The Lowest Animal, was written by Mark Twain and it portrays the bad side of man. Twain goes
over the negative characteristics of man in comparison with animals. On the other hand, A Time
of Gifts, by Stephen Gould portrays the good side of man. Gould focuses on the good
characteristics of man and how these good characteristics shine through in times of trial. Both the
good and bad sides of man have importance and each side can be easily argued for. Whether good
outweighs the bad or bad outweighs the good is a controversial debate. In The Lowest Animal,
Mark Twain s story declares that man is not the Top animal, but is in fact the animal of lowest
descent. Twain points out how man is needlessly cruel, greedy, indecent, brutal, etc. Animals do not
have the ability to decipher between right and wrong. They do only what they... Show more content

Gould declares that the goodness in the word overrides all of the bad. In times of crisis, man
will stand together and the good will shine through. Every spectacular incident of evil will be
balanced by 10,000 acts of kindness. (Gould) Whether man is good or bad as a whole comes down
to each individual perception by every person.
Man is good, but man is also bad. Good doesn t override the bad and bad doesn t override the
good. You can not have light without darkness or darkness without light. It is the same with the
good and bad sides of man. One can not exist without the other. The goodness of man should
outweigh the bad but that is impossible. The true nature of man is good but that good can be easily
tainted throughout life. The little acts of kindness throughout the world keep the evil at bay. Good
and evil are at a balance but whether the true nature of man is ultimately good or ultimately bad
comes down to each individual

geriatrics, education, oncology and so much more. I will be explaining what field of physical
therapy that I strongly feel of pursuing and my least favorite field. Then I will give my whys and
why nots feedback for each field that I talk about.
In the area of acute care, physical therapy is provided to patients who are admitted to a hospital for
a short term period of time. They can be admitted for reasons such as an accident, a surgery, or
recovery from trauma. The pathologies often seen in acute care are the following: cardiovascular
atrophy, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, rheumatoid arthritis, amputations, knee... Show

Pediatrics The pediatric physical therapist works with children of all ages and their families in
helping the child to achieve functional movement after an injury or with a disability. Some
pathologies seen in this area include, cerebral palsy, genetic disorders, arthrogryposis, and muscular
dystrophy. The physical therapy will assess or evaluate areas such as the child s joint flexibility,
posture, endurance, balance, coordination, muscle strength, muscle tone, motor control, motor
planning, functional movement, equipment needs, and work to determine if the child would
benefit from physical therapy services in order to help alleviate a motor problem.
Geriatrics In this setting its groups of Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants working
with elderly patients and their needs. Geriatrics physical therapy can take place in a hospital setting,
nursing homes, rehab facilities, and private clinical settings. Pathologies vary from hip fractures,

Internal Tensions Of The Qing Dynasty Of China
The Qing dynasty of China, which began in 1644, was seen as very isolationist and wary of
foreign trade and imports. However, the Europeans were very interested in developing two way
trade with China. Europeans had to pay directly in silver for the porcelain, silk, spices, and tea they
imported from China. This was a significant stress on the European economy, which was already
strained from internal tensions.
In the early 1700 s the Portuguese introduced a new form of smoke able opium to China. The
opium was mixed with tobacco and became a new commodity in China. Opium trade was originally
dominated by the Dutch, but was soon taken over by the British due to British rule in India and the
foundation of the East India Company. The British

Essay on The Deeper Meaning of Frost’s Tuft of Flowers
The Deeper Meaning of Frost s Tuft of Flowers
Robert Lee Frost published his first book of poems entitled A Boy s Will in 1913. From this
collection come one of several poems that critics and anthologists alike highly regard as both lyrical
and autobiographical in nature. One such critic, James L. Potter, in his book entitled [The] Robert
Frost Handbook, explains [that] Frost wore a mask in public much of the time, concealing his
personal problems and complexities from his reading and listening audiences (Potter 48). Through
The Tuft of Flowers, a kind of lyrical soliloquy, Frost half intentionally reveals his personal views
on the theme of fellowship (Potter 48).
In the first of three transitions the speaker, most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker notes that the butterfly flies as far as eye could see / (but) on tremulous wing came
back to me (17 18). Here, the butterfly seems to parallel the thoughts the speaker has about the
field and the delight it brought both of them the day before. The reader can infer from this
comparison that Frost, like the butterfly, has enjoyed great beauty, joy, and love at certain times
during his life but because the grass chokes the beauty in the field, the good times are beset with
feelings of loneliness and grief.
The butterfly eventually turns and leads the speaker to a tall tuft of flowers beside a brook (22).
The significance of the flowers and the brook can not be overlooked, because at this place in the
poem the mood suddenly swings from pessimism to optimism. It seems that God was trying to
send a message to Frost that the field of life can be filled with beauty and he might not always be
alone in his life s work (22). This couplet of the poem is significant because it gives us a clue to
how God reveals to the speaker that, although the field of life appears barren, a brook nourishes
the ground to give life to the beauty he possesses. In addition, through God s infinite wisdom and
mercy, Frost s loneliness and grief will someday again turn back into fellowship and joy.

Nazi Germany And The Nazi Party Essay
Propaganda was significant in Germany in the period of 1933 to 1945 as it affected the people
of Germany greatly since propaganda was presented to people in their everyday lives in some
manner or form, making it inescapable. Propaganda was used mainly to display anti Semitic beliefs
about Jews and others who were thought of as irrelevant to Nazi Germanysuch as the disabled,
mentally ill, gypsies, communists and non Aryans who were all affected greatly by propaganda.
Hitler and the Nazi Party achieved this through their propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels who
used every form of media (radio, posters, newspapers, films, music and the arts) to portray the
greatness of German culture. Though, some of these forms of propaganda displayed different levels
of effectiveness making some forms more significant than others.
One of the most significant forms of propaganda in their impact on Germany was the use of
radio. Radios and radio licences summed to 90% of the ministry s expenses, which show how
Hitler s messages, speeches and Nazi related broadcasts reached such a broad audience of the
German population because radio was extremely accessible. Hitler made sure that radios were
cheap enough for every family to afford so that his speeches were publicised, giving Hitler more
opportunity to manipulate Germany and glorify the Nazi party. The significance of this form of
propaganda is that the radio was such a regular part of family life, and would ve been played

The Impacts Of The 18th And 18th Amendments
The Eighteenth and Nineteenth Amendments The Eighteenth Amendment states that, one year
after the states ratified the article, the making, selling, and importing or exporting of alcohol is
illegal unless for medicinal or religious reasons. Congress can pass any laws it finds necessary to
uphold the Eighteenth Amendment. If Вѕ of the states did not ratify the article within seven years,
then the article would not take effect. (18th Amendment)
One impact of the Eighteenth Amendment was the end, in theory, of the sale and consumption of
alcohol. America had just returned from World War Iwhen Prohibition was started. The men had
gotten addicted to morphine and heroine and could no longer buy those drugs so they bought the
cheapest thing they could find alcohol. This started a wave of drunkenness across the country and
the women were not happy. The women had taken men s place in the workforce while they were
gone and, when the men came back, they lost all their jobs to the men. But, the men were not
working. Instead, they were getting drunk all day, trying to forget what they saw at war. This
angered women greatly. Because the women had gained power from working the men s jobs during
the war, the women used their power to promote Prohibition across the country.
Another impact of the Eighteenth Amendment is the rise of organized crime. It is the law of
supply and demand. When the supply of a product, alcohol, goes down, the demand for it goes up.

Gaol Learning Experience
My three and a half months of working at the Huron County and Huron Historic Gaol have
flown by. Time has gone far too quickly and I cannot believe that my time here has come to a
close. I am so grateful for the opportunity I was given to work at the museum and gaol this
summer. It has been a learning experience that I will never forget. I began working at the
museum and gaol in May. The first month centred on familiarizing myself with the two buildings
and gaining and understanding as to how they function. I spent time learning about the history of
both sites. I took place in an orientation for about the first two weeks of work. The orientation
was led by museum curator, Patricia Hamilton. I was guided through the Huron County Museum,
Huron Historic gaol and Sky Harbour Gallery with the help of Pat and the audio tour mates. Pat
gave us students all of the basic knowledge that we would need to know about the three sites in
order to answer questions from tourists and the general public. I learned a lot about each exhibit
on display, as well as about the buildings themselves. The next part of orientation was performed

records from the gaol. I became extremely invested in the Steven Truscott case, and began

The Neurodevelopmental Disorders ( Asd )
The neurodevelopmental disorders, according to the DSM 5, are a group of conditions with onset
in the developmental period. The disorders typically manifest early in development, often before
the child enters grade school, and are characterized by developmental deficits that produce
impairments of personal, social, academic, or occupational functioning. Autismspectrum disorder
(ASD) is newly classified as such; it was once classified as Asperger s Syndrome. ASD is a
severe neurodevelopmental impairment. The disorder limits the functioning capabilities of
children and their capacity to communicate as well as interact with others. ASD effects how
children perceive the world around them; socializing with others happens to be the most vital
piece of development. Onset for ASD can occur as early as infancy, some children, however, may
develop normal and then begin to suddenly withdraw and become unusually aggressive with those
around them, they also begin to lose vocabulary and language skills they ve once had. Other
medical conditions may be comorbid with ASD; for example, epilepsy, intellectual and structural
language disorders, mental disorders, sleep disorders, and avoidant restrictive food intake
disorders, (DSM 5, pg. 59).
The history of ASD; the word Autism was first used by a Swiss psychiatrist by the name of Eugen
Bleuler. He began using the term to describe one group of symptoms for schizophrenia patients,

A Comparison of Wealth in Antony and Cleopatra and The...
The Importance of Wealth in Antony and Cleopatra and The Tempest
Wealth and it s relationship to poverty figures in heavily in two of the plays we have read thus far
in class. In both Antony and Cleopatra and The Tempest we are treated to characters and situations
that deal with wealth and poverty. Specifically however, both plays have visions of an abundanceof
wealth that seems at times both corruptible and foolish. In Antony and Cleopatra we have their
excessive behavior and flaunting, which proves to be a vice that grips them much to tightly. In The
Tempest, characters stranded on a deserted island have their own unique versions of achieving that
said abundance. Shakespeare treats the topic similarly in both plays, and ... Show more content on

Antony is a soldier foremost, and his actions at the moment, that of wealth and slack are not
becoming of a soldier or, Shakespeare thinks, even a man. This point is made even more solid
when Antony himself says it; O, my fortunes have/Corrupted honest men! (IV.v.16 17). It hardly
gets any plainer than that. The Tempest by virtue of plot seems and even more direct attack on
wealth and abundance. In the play, characters are stripped of their real world places and placed
in an area where everything is quite different. The abundance here becomes for some characters,
the so called hope for the New World that we have discussed in class. But for others, Caliban in
specific, his view is corrupted by these new elements and he begins to crave riches as well. Both
of these wants, however, do turn on to be negative. For example, early in the play, Gonzalo speaks
and says:
I th commonwealth I would by contraries Execute all things, for no kind of traffic Would I admit;
no name of magistrate; Letters should not be known; riches, poverty And use of service, none;
contract, succession, Bourn, bound of land, tilth, vineyard, none; No use of metal, corn, or wine, or

Filariasis, Malaria, Dengue Fever and Lyme Disease
Insects the most diverse group of animals on Earth, are the major group from arthropods class.
Insects could be found in almost everywhere, in any conditions, and environments, which why we
would classify insects as the most successful, and diverse organisms to dominate the earth s
population. However, these magnificent, simple yet sophisticated organisms are capable to produce
massive casualties. The manner of how these diseases are introduced to human through insects will
further be discussed in this paper. This paper will attempt a further analysis on the history, the
distribution of the diseases worldwide, and the further impact noted caused by the diseases.

Filariasis has no clear vaccine. Thus, the best way to eradicate the disease is by eliminating
microfilaria from the infected individuals, which therefore will interrupt the process of transmitting
the infection by the mosquito. Administration of diethylcarbamazine concurrently with albendazole
or invermectin (DEC) is proven to eliminate 99% of microfilaria from the infected individual.
Albeit advance treatment of this disease is currently available, vigorous action should be taken by
the communities and the respective agencies to abolish all potential breeding sites for mosquitoes.
WHO classify this disease a disease of the poor, due to its pervasiveness to occur in remote rural
areas. Thus, if I were to construct two premises on filariasis, I would say; first, to have a
filariasis is to live in poverty. Second, people are infected by filariasis. And therefore, I would
conclude that those who are infected by filariasis are most likely to live in poverty. As has been
stated by the WHO, the fight to eliminate filariasis is also a fight against poverty .
Malaria is another example of vector borne infectious disease that uses mosquitos as vectors and
would infects the blood. Malaria remains a big problem in many sub tropical and tropical
countries. The United States is considered Malaria free since it has been eradicated in this
country since early 1950 s. However, over 1300 cases of malaria, including 8 deaths were reported
in 2002.

Globalization Has Created A Tremendous Impact On The Lives...
Within the past decades, globalization has created a tremendous impact on the lives of women and
men globally. Globalization denotes the process in which economic, financial, and technical
transactions between different countries and communities throughout the world are becoming
increasingly interconnected (Pearson). Yet in the beginning of the millennium, contemporary
globalizationhas additionally taken more of a human form, as it has integrated and interconnected a
collectivistic mass culture (Powerpoint). The phenomenon has shaped gendered relations and

The gendered relations have consequently shaped the cultural and societal norms as result of the
economic forms of globalization. As women are entering the work force, they have become more
autonomous and are able to live [how they] want (Sengupta). What s more, the role of women in
the family is changing because they have reduced domestic expectations. Many women are
deferring marriages, while they make money, obtain higher levels of education, and live lives that
most of their mothers could not have dreamed of. Additionally, in a highly communicative
globalized world, there are new models of attainment with seeing women in roles of leadership,
whether it is politically or economically, women may feel empowered to exercise their desire for
high powers of leadership and to exercise femininity in such an emancipative way. This could result
in increased political representation and participation in feminist movements by woman. On the
other hand, as a result of the women being more financially independent, the transformation of the

Analysis Of My Papa s Waltz
Due to Theodore Roethke s use of imagery, syntax, and diction, My Papa s Waltz continues to
spur passionate academic debate from professors, scholars, and students alike. Roethke uses these
elements to allow the reader to recognize that he is reminiscing the intricate relationship he and his
father shared. Although it is not essential, one could put the historical context into consideration.
Evidently, there will always be individuals that see only abuse or a fond memory; however, we
will never clearly know what his intention was in regards to the purpose of the poem. As a result,
one must come to a realization based on the author s use of diction, syntax, and imagery throughout
the poem broken down line by line; in order to fully... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Typically, when people see signs of abuse, they reach conclusions; especially, because the word
romped has a sexual connotation. To clarify, when the ...hung on like death: is mentioned, an image
of forceful physical contact comes to most readers minds. When slid from the kitchen shelf is
mentioned people immediately assume that he beat his son until the pans slid off the shelf. As for
the positive, it can be assumed that there was simply a father playing roughly with his son. Roethke
mentions, My mother s countenance/ could not unfrown itself. Could it be that his mother was
upset that the father played extremely rough that the pans slid or that she could not do anything
about the fact that her son was getting abused. Was there a possibility that she was getting abused
too? The reader now begins to ponder whether it is a fond memory, abuse, or both are present.
Furthermore, the analysis of the third stanza, relates to the fond memory. Roethke descriptively
mentions, The hand that held my wrist/Was battered on one knuckle; The battered knuckle can be
a sign of the father s manual labor; on the contrary, it can be the beating of his child leaving his
hand injured. Even though, these two points can be argued thoroughly, the following line, At every

Essay Data Mining
Data Mining
Abstract
Data mining is a combination of database and artificial intelligence technologies. Although the AI
field has taken a major dive in the last decade; this new emerging field has shown that AI can add
major contributions to existing fields in computer science. In fact, many experts believe that data
mining is the third hottest field in the industry behind the Internet, and data warehousing.
Data mining is really just the next step in the process of analyzing data. Instead of getting queries
on standard or user specified relationships, data mining goes a step farther by finding meaningful
relationships in data. Relationships that were thought to have not existed, or ones that give a more
insightful view of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Data mining allows companies to focus on the more important information in their data warehouses.
Data mining can be broken down into two major categories. Automated prediction of trends and
behaviors, and automated discovery of previously unknown patterns. In the first category, data
mining automates the process of finding predictive information in large databases. Questions that
traditionally required exhaustive hands on analysis can now be quickly answered directly from
data. In the second category, data mining tools sweep through databases and identify previously
hidden patterns in one step. This category is where the major focus of research has been on.
Discussion
Data mining is a rather new term for a challenge that has been growing for many years: how to
scan very large databases to retrieve the high level conceptual information of the greatest interest
(Lindsay). With the advances in data acquisition and storage technologies, the problem of how to
turn measured raw data into useful information becomes a important one. Having reached sizes that
defy even partial examination by humans, the data volumes are literally swamping users. For
example, large US retail chains now mine their data bases with sophisticated data mining programs
to look for general trends and geographic clustering in purchases that are not easily visible in the
huge multitude of products and sales.

Mass Customisation And Its Effect On The Individual And...
Mass Customisation in Architecture
Introduction
Mass customisation implies a relationship between an individual and the production process.
For mass production to occur a process must be created which aims to fabricate a product in the
easiest and the least redundant way. This process is highly designed to create products which are
virtually identical in mass quantities (Image 01.1). The final outcome caters to the product rather
than to the individual. A process, on the other hand, which allows for a product to be produced
based on the needs and wants of the individual requires a link to be created between the person and
the system. (Image 01.2) For this relationship to exist, the individual must have a knowledge of the

Extrusion moulding, additive fabrication and water jet cutting are the three production methods
which this project will explore in the context of a joint at an architecturally viable scale. In
architecture, joinery exists in wood work and metal and is intended to create a connection between
separate elements. For example a lap joint in wood work or welding, or a metal t plate are intend to
be static joint details which can bring together multiple elements. The ball and socket joint,
however, is a joint type which does connect separate elements, but allows for movement among
them. This can be utilised to create structures which can withstand forces acting from various
angles, or structures which can be dismantled, folded and transported. Thus exploring the ball and
socket joint which is a natural or manufactured joint or coupling in which a partially spherical end
lies in a socket, allowing multidirectional movement and rotation, will allow me to explore these
fabrication methods to their greatest capabilities.
Extrusion Molding
Extrusion molding is recognized as a process of pushing a malleable material, sensitive to heat,
through a plate with a predefined void. As the material is pushed through the die, it takes on the
shape of the void and therefor an object is created with a continuous cross

The Bombing Of Pearl Harbor
It all started the morning of December 7, 1941 when Japanese leaders decided to bomb the
United States. Families were then broke apart and things became much more complex in the
lives of Americans. Pearl Harbor was not just a bombing, but in reality it is so much more. This
bombing had a great impact on the whole world for World War II. The bombing of Pearl Harbor
had many situations before the bombing, during the bombing, and after the bombing. The
bombing of Pearl Before was a bombing that the country of Japan had declared on the United
States and had planned prior to the event. Japanese had many reasons why they bombed the
Naval Base of Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japan following the decision of the
Governor of Premier, Hideji Tojo, that the Roosevelt administration would not abandon the
regions of South East Asia and China to the Japanese military or continue to supply Tokyo with
oil and other valuable resources that they would need in the war. The Emperor of Japan, Emperor
Hirohito, wanted to enlarge the territory and power of Japan. Japan wanted the natural resources of
oil and aluminum that are found in the Netherlands East Indies, but in order to gain these resources
they had to get through the United States first (Quiroz 2). In July of 1939, President Roosevelt
decided to end the 1911 Japan Treaty of Commerce and Navigation with the Japanese. In reaction of
President Roosevelt doing this the Japanese were getting furious with The United States of

The Importance Of Life On Earth
Earth is living and breathing planet, it takes a lot of energy to keep the Earth health, to keep all its

life to thrive. Earth receive a tremendous amount of energy from the Sun, solar energy is necessary
for life on Earth. A planet filled with life needs water, it is one of the essential pieces for all
humans, animals, and plants. Earth is cover primarily by water, a unique substance that keeps
life going. Water is unique in many ways, water is the only liquid found at Earth s surface in
large quantities...is readily converted from one state of matter to another (solid, liquid, gas),
and water s solid phase, ice, is less dense than liquid water (Lutgens 90, 2016). All these unique
attributes of water make life on earth easy for all its inhabitants. On a warm day, a cold drink of
water with ice can be refreshing, just like a dip in a cold late, the same can be said for a warm
cup of tea in the middle of the winter. Water moves through Earth; the process of waters movement
is explained by the hydrologic cycle. The hydrologic cycle is the continuous exchange of water
among the oceans, the atmosphere, and the continents. The hydrologic cycle has several essential
parts, evaporation, transportation, and precipitation. Evaporation is the action of water moving into
the atmosphere where it condenses and forms clouds, moisture is then transported in the
atmosphere all over earth

A nonbiased scientific opinion poll is what is known to be the inquiry or the survey created to
determine the public s perspective concerning a specific subject or sequence of subjects.
Qualified interviewer ask people random questions. Answers are given, and explanations are
made depending on the consequences. It is significant in a random sample that each one in the
population being considered for the study has the same chance of contributing. or else, the
outcome could be biased and, consequently, not representative of the population. Representative
samples are selected to create generalizations about a certain population being studied. Polls tell
us what part of the population has a certain point of view. They do not clarify why respondents
think as they do or how to change their minds. This is social scientists and scholars job . Polls
are basically used as a measurement that informs us of what a population feels and thinks about
any given topic. This can be beneficial in helping variety cultures comprehend one another since
it allows the people to have a chance to speak for themselves and share their perspectives instead of

Color Purple Symbolism
Symbolism in The Color Purple
Alice Walker s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Color Purple, tells the story of a young black
woman in rural Georgia over thirty years in the first half of the twentieth century. Through her
letters to God and her sister Nettie, the protagonist, Celie, shares her struggles against physical,
sexual, emotional and verbal abuse. Through Celie s story and the stories of the other people in her
life, the novel explores the themes of racism, sexuality, spirituality, and gender roles. Walker
enriches the story and advances these themes through the use of symbols such as the sewing of

Stephen King Pen Name
This week the town library is holding an exhibit on pen names throughout the history of writing.
Many authors, even one s popular today, use or have used pen names for some of their novels,
short stories, articles, and etcetera. These writers use pen names for many reasons like trying to
have a fresh start, to avoid being categorized or ignored, to be taken more seriously, and many other
reasons. Authors like Stephen King, J.K Rowling, Benjamin Franklin, and the Bronte sisters have
used pseudonyms in their writing. Many other authors use these aliases when writing as well.
Stephen King is known as one of the most famous and successful horror writers of all time.
Something some fans of King may not know is the fact he has a pseudonym known as Richard
Bachman, in which he has had most of his career. King had a couple reasons for creating this
other identity in the writing world. King first knew that it was only practical to release one book
per year, but with a pen name, he could produce twice as much than before. This name also helped

Rowling, also used a pseudonym in her writing career. Her actual name is Joanne Rowling, but
she feared that her books would end up being categorized to the female gender since she is a
female herself. In sight of this, she made her pen name so it was able to be thought of as either
or gender. She then became so famous with her Harry Potter series, loved by both boys and
girls, that she created yet another alias known as Robert Galbraith. She created this new name in
order to write detective novels, and not have the piggyback from her other popular novels. This
allowed her to have a fresh start in the writing world and to explore a brand new genre without
expectation and to receive feedback based on if they liked the books, not the author himself. In J.K.
Rowling s writing career, pen names were very important because of these

Music In The 1950s, Rock And Roll And Folk
Throughout the history of America, protest music has been used in a wide variety of social causes
such as civil rights, gender equality, anti war, and environment. Through music, artists were able to
reach a wide spectrum of people through aesthetic symbolism. As a result, creating a stimulated
experience helped listeners connect to the musicthrough lyrics and mental visuals. Psychology
suggests that as humans we have an inherent need to symbolize (Hoppenstand, 2009). Thus, music,
through its use of symbolism is a way in which humans can better understand the world. A musician
using symbols is able to share his or her life experience with an audience through a shared virtual

The 1950 s protest music discussed unions and the labor movement. Is there aught we hold in
common with the greedy parasite, who would lash us into serfdom and would crush us with his
might? Is there anything left to us but to organize and fight? For the union makes us strong
(Seeger, 1950). This example comes from the song, Solidarity Forever, written in 1915, and
performed by Pete Seeger in 1950. The song gives a direct political commentary on employers
and unions, one that is not subtle or hidden. However, the song was not effective. As we will see
in the 1960 s the lyrics of the artists reached massive number of people. Therefore, what I can
draw from 1950 s protest music was that they were too specific to a niche audience. For instance,
when I was listing to the song I understood exactly what it was talking about but I did not have an
emotional awaking or realization of thought. All I really got from the song was that it was arguing
how unions are essential to combat the greed of employers. Therefore, this type of protest song I
believe cannot reach a broad audience. First off, the song was specifically targeting a certain
group of people. For one, when I was listening to it I could not relate to the need for labor unions.
I have never been in a labor union and do not have any

Urban planning is an important aspect of city life, especially in light of today s dynamic economy

cities are looking for new solutions to solve these. Large influences on the ideas that are shaping
urban planning today come from urban theorist, Jane Jacobs. Jacobs challenged the way urban

Education And The Current System Of Teaching
In the history of education, there are many events and people which one could say are the most
important in the development of the current systems of teaching. Here, I have put together a
summary of five such monumental events and influential people which I consider the most
important regarding schooling and educationin the U.S.. Starting with the first establishment of
higher education in the U.S., Harvard University, and the first public library, set up in 1698 in
South Carolina, and the evolution controversy, which has been ongoing since 1925, and significant
figures including John Locke, and Christian von Wolff, the following text describes their
importance to the current workings of public school systems in the U.S..
The Massachusetts Bay Colony is responsible for putting into place the first institute of higher
education in the U.S., beginning with nine students in 1836 (History | Harvard University). I
believe this to be an important step in the educational history of the U.S. because today, we have
many post secondary institutions, and the normalization of such education is important. It is
evident that it is being normalized, as Harvard University started with only nine students and
nowadays has more than 20,000 students aiming for a degree (History | Harvard University). In
1690, John Locke, a philosopher and political theorist, as well as a teacher at the University of
Oxford, published an essay titled the Essay Concerning Human Understanding (Connolly). In it,

Neoliberalism In Canada
Introduction Unions have a long and sometimes contentious history in Canada, although they are
also the source of many of the labour laws and standards that we have come to accept as normal.
However, since the 1980s, an increasing trend towards favouring neoliberal policies has erased
many of the social welfare and employment standards gains by unions, with particularly harsh
effects on more vulnerable populations including women, immigrants, younger workers, and
Aboriginal peoples. A striking example of these shifts is seen in the restaurant sector in B.C.,
where recent controversies with Canada s temporary foreign worker program has at least brought
some discussions of worker s rights to the headlines in regional and national newspapers.
Unfortunately, despite this new attention the current political climate continues to be hostile to
workers groups and to workers rights. Changes: Neoliberalism in Theory and Practice in Canada

Underlying Neurobiological Processes
It has been agreed in the literature that memories can generally be defined in terms of time
(Nader, Schafe LeDoux, 2000). Memory is sensitive to disruption soon after learning as it is in a
labile state of short term memory (STM). Conversely, memory enters a stable form and is less
sensitive to such disruptions in long term memory(LTM) at a later stage after learning (Nader et
al.). Research has argued that the process in which labile new memories transform into stable long
lasting memories is known as consolidation (Nader et al.). After memories are consolidated, they
can re enter states of transient instability, making them vulnerable to disruption immediately after
retrieval (Yue et al., 2012; Si et al., 2012). This is known as memory reconsolidation (Yue et al.; Si
et al.). Finally, the re exposure to a particular context without reinforcement can lead to memory
extinction (Merlo Romano, 2008).That is, the temporary weakening of an earlier conditioned
response can lead to extinction (Merlo Romano). However, the number of events or duration of a
single event in that exposure will determine whether memory extinction or reconsolidation is
activated (Merlo Romano).
Although learning to fear danger is essential to survival, many anxiety disorders are underpinned by
the dysregulation of the fear system (OyarzГєn et al., 2012). Accordingly, much research has been
dedicated to developing strategies for supressing fear memories in maladaptive cases (OyarzГєn et

Scottsboro Trial In To Kill A Mockingbird
Ever since the inception of slavery in the United States, white families have falsely accused
black men of rape in order to gain power and demonize their slaves. Rape has been used by white
men in order to gain and keep power since the beginnings of their supremacy (Haynes 1). This is
true for both actual rapeand false rape accusations, as assault takes away a victim s power and a
false accusation takes away that of the accused. As such, white families have accused men,
specifically black men, of raping the white women in their communities and families for centuries.
Almost all of these cases resulted in the death of the defendant, either by lynching (the illegal
murder of a marginalized person) or the death penalty. Of these deaths, 66%... Show more content

This is due to a centuries old racial tension in this part of the country. Subsequently, it is also the
setting for To Kill A Mockingbird. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee uses the trial of Tom
Robinson to showcase how false rape accusations such as the trial of Pleasant, a slave, and the
Scottsboro trials were used as power plays by white families against black men.
In the case of Tom Robinson, Mayella and Bob Ewell used rape accusations in order to obtain
power and control over Tom and the black community of Maycomb, Alabama. Mayella claims
that Tom choked and beat her with his left hand and proceeded to rape her until her father
returned home. However, Tom s left arm was fully twelve inches shorter than his right, and hung
dead at his side (Lee 248). This reveals that her story about him beating her could not have been
true. The use of the word dead is an indication that he has no control whatsoever over his hand.
As his left hand was useless, Tom could not have caused bruising to the right side of her face.
Even after her story was disproven, Tom was found guilty, largely due to the fact that his jury was
comprised of white farmers and not of his peers. According to Scout

Bradbury Thompson
Graphic Designer: Bradbury Thompson
By K. Lee Goodrick
Patrick Kirk
ARTD 201
Due: March 28, 2007 Bradbury Thompson (1911 В– 1995) is often times called the father of
modern design and considered a pioneer among graphic designers (Father). As early as high
school, Bradbury showed a keen talent in the field of graphic design. He jumpstarted his career
when working in New York; and from that point he undertook many projects that made him
famous. Among those projects includes designing stamps for the postal office, redesigning World
Book Encyclopedia, Chicago Daily News, and even the Holy Bible. His work was not overlooked
and Bradbury received several awards for his works. Bradbury Thompson has left a very positive

She enabled him to continue his work and in the year 1979, a decade after Bradbury started the
project, the bible was published and placed on the market. The Bible was a huge success and
collected several awards and publications (Hoffman). In 1980 a second version was published.
This second version was smaller and was targeted to sell to families. Of course Bradbury s
success was not overlooked. In 1950, Bradbury received the National Society of Art Directors of
the Year award. In 1975 he received AIGA Gold Medal award. And finally, in 1977 Bradbury
was placed into the Art Director s Hall of Fame (Pioneer). As for my personal thoughts; besides
being extremely impressed by Bradbury Thompson s success I find it very interesting as to how
broad his different work reached. It really goes to show that graphic design can lead one to
several different types of work. After reading up on Bradbury Thompson I can only be
overtaken by motivation and excitement in hoping that my career can lead me to as many
exciting projects and places as Bradbury Thompson s did. As for Bradbury s work, he truly
makes several masterpieces and deserves all the respect, awards, and recognition. He does very
well at expressing meaningful concepts. I also greatly appreciate his interest in making the English
language easier to understand and read. I am interested to see the bible he redesigned. He must

Green Day Punk Rock Bands
Introduction Punk rock trio from Berkley, Green Day is on the music scene for a whole eternity.
On the radio and other platforms we heard the hits innumerable times that have become anthems
of modern punk rock, such as the Boulevard of Broken Dreams , American Idiot , 21 Guns ,
Good Riddance and Basket Case . Over time, Green Day became an icon of the punk rock genre,
which many listeners like. Everything started more than twenty years ago, in 1987, when 15
years old Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Pritchard formed a band called Sweet Children. After
some time, they were joined by Frank Edwin Wright Jr. and TrГ© Cool (who later replaced the
original drummer). This year, Green Day celebrated two big anniversaries: 21 years since they...

their most complex, most serious, and most powerful album. This is also a rock opera, but the
action is less pronounced and it is only a framework within which the three acts; songs about the
period in America after Bush, the songs in which young people are last on the list of priorities,
and songs about religion and media creators as social consciousness that brainwashes the public.
Lyrics are superb, maybe sometimes a bit heavy, but with the quality they are the top of creativity

The Organizational Culture And Subcultures Within A...
The organizational culture and subcultures within a business determines, to a larger extent, how the
business performs and the quality of people that comprises an organization. Such culture is often
initially created on purpose, but takes on life and identity of its own, developing organically and
eventually controls and cultivates people within the organization.
The case of Lincoln Electric Company is an interesting one, starting from the very early beginnings
when the company was run by the brothers, the original founder John Lincoln who decided to
concentrate on inventions and R D side of things, who handed the helm over to his brother, James
Lincoln. The management system and underlying philosophy at Lincoln can be characterized by
clarity and commitment. The system was instituted with clear priority and purpose and the
management had confidence and courage to commit to the decisions they made. The order of
priority, namely customers first, employees next and stockholders last, makes any subsequent
decision making simple. The values that founded this order of priority, as well as benefits provided
to each of these categories, are based on Christian values, but the empathetic approach that results is
most certainly beneficial to anyone in any of these categories. The caring attitude and evident
sincerity that was demonstrated by actual implementations not only convinced all those concerned
that these were not merely slogans and publicity stunts but became beliefs share

Theme Of Ode To A Nightingale
Ode to a Nightingale by John Keats
Ode to a Nightingale is a regular ode written by John Keats in 1819. The ode is the longest one
with eight stanzas with ten lines each. The poem was composed at Charles Brown s house after
John Keats heard a nightingale bird outside his window singing. This poem expresses different
themes such as the theme of mortality of human life, the theme of unhappiness and happiness, and
various figures of speech like symbolism, to support the themes.
Throughout this poem, Ode to a Nightingale, the author fully expresses the theme of mortality of
human life. In this ode, the speaker convinces himself into believing that the nightingale bird or its
song is immortal. After hearing the nightingale s song, the speaker ... Show more content on

For instance, the word nightingale appears in the title, but it is used as a symbol of beauty,
immortality, and freedom from the struggles of the world. The speaker also uses metaphors like the
metaphor of flight, to describe his imaginative journey to join the nightingale. Keats claims that he
flies on his metaphorical wings:
Away! Away! For I will fly to thee,
Not charioted by Bacchus and his pards,
But on the viewless wings of Poesy, (Keats, 31 33).
The speaker uses imagination to expresses his urge to get away. The symbolism and metaphors help
to show the theme of happiness and express the experience of nighttime through the nightingale
approach, surrounded by dark and fragrant trees. The poem, Ode to a Nightingale expresses various
themes like the theme of happiness and the theme of mortality of human life. Keats compares the
life of the nightingale living in the forest to the human life in the regular world. Throughout the
poem, the poet expresses both manic and quiet mood. Also, the title of the poem lets the reader
know that it is an ode, where he addresses the nightingale. The poet uses different figures of speech

involve the axons of the brain and spinal cord, causing the destruction of the myelin and the

diagnose MS because its signs and symptoms are similar to some other diseases. Metabolomics
is a new method of early diagnosis of many diseases. It is a method of quantitative measurement
and systemic approach to study the metabolic profile in vivo. In the present study, the
metabolome profiles of patients with MS disease were investigated, by applying NMR

An Interpretation of Kant’s Metaphysical Deduction of the...
In what appears to be an important section of the Critique of Pure Reason, when Kant attempts to
show the natural connection between the table of judgment and the table of categories, there is a
cryptic little paragraph:
The same function that gives unity to the different representations in a judgment also gives unity to
the mere synthesis of different representations in an intuition, which, expressed generally, is called
the pure concept of understanding. The same understanding, therefore, and indeed by means of the
very same actions through which it brings the logical form of a judgment into concepts by means
of the analytical unity, also brings a transcendental content into its representations by means of the
synthetic unity of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will provisionally think of it as referring to the faculty of understanding and not solely one or more
of the pure concepts of the understanding.11 The main interpretive dilemma of this passage
revolves around the term transcendental content. It may be the case that Kant wants to contrast the
Transcendental Logic s possession of objective content with general logic s lack of content.
However the term could also refer to the fact that the understanding has a transcendental function,
and could be indicating the transcendental nature of the categories. Each of these interpretations
will be evaluated in turn.
The Argument
At its most basic, with all the explanatory clauses stripped away the argument appears thus:22
P1 The Understanding gives unity to different representations in a judgment
P2 The Understanding gives unity to the synthesis of representations in an intuition.
C The Understanding Brings Transcendental Content to its representations.
Need anymore be said?33 The argument is easier to follow, though by no means clear, if we take
into account a missing or explanatory premise:
PE The very actions that brings the logical form of a judgment to concepts also brings a
transcendental content into the understanding s representations.
The most important element of the argument is the fact that it is the very same actions which allow
logical forms to be used in contentful judgments that necessitate the transcendental role of the

Iraq Invasion of Kuwait vs US Iraq War Essay
Iraq Invasion of Kuwait vs U.S Iraq War
Iraq and Kuwait have a long history; Kuwait played a huge part in the Iran Iraq war, mostly
financially. Open warfare began on September 22, 1980; Iraq claimed Iran shelled a number of
border posts on September 4, 1980. Kuwait funded Iraq during the Iraq Iran war, which caused
tension between the two nations when Iraq couldn t pay the $14 billion dollars back to Kuwait
when it was time to settle their debt. The Iraqi government asked Kuwait to forgive the debt, as
they could not afford to pay, Kuwait refused to forgive the debt, which increased tensions between
the two nations. The United States supported Kuwait when Iraq invaded Kuwait. During the 2003
Iraq War, the United States and United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both the Kuwaiti and Saudi Government refused to forgive the debt, which increased diplomatic
tensions between the three countries.
The United States had to justify the 1991 and 2003 invasion of Iraq. In both cases the United States
used Iraq s history of human rights abuses under President Saddam Hussein. In his speech President
Bush stated,
(1990) First, we seek the immediate, unconditional, and complete withdrawal of all Iraqi forces
from Kuwait. Second, Kuwait s legitimate government must be restored to replace the puppet
regime. And third, my administration, as has been the case with every President from President
Roosevelt to President Reagan, is committed to the security and stability of the Persian Gulf. And
fourth, I am determined to protect the lives of American citizens abroad.
The United States and allies justified invading Iraq because of the importance of oil to the
American and western economies. After annexing Kuwait, the Iraqi government turned its eye on
Saudi Arabia where tensions had existed for many years. The United States felt they had to stand
and defend a very close and important ally. The primary justifications for invading Iraq during
the 2003 Iraq war was, Saddam Hussein was developing weapons of mass destruction. The United
States also used Iraq s history of human rights abuses as and excuse for invading Iraq. Finally, the
United States sought to invade Iraq to rid Iraq of their current regime and promote democracy. This

Racial Differences In Ta-Nehisi Coates s Sonny s Blues
In Between the World and Me, Ta Nehisi Coates depicts how an African American man should
behave in America based on other people s perception of their race. In the essay, he speaks to his
son about how a black man is obligated to be twice as good and how a black man takes
responsibility for another black man. Coates highlights the expectations of black peopleand the
struggle to go beyond what society has labeled them as because of their differences in skin color
and the stereotypes that the majority has perceived them as. In relation to social differences,
James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues, expresses how differences in livelihood metal in between
relationships and growth. The narrator in the story fails to broaden his mindset that his brother,
Sonny, can change from his drug addiction and that his students have more a chance to end up
like Sonny rather than making a positive impact on their lives. My own claim is that alien stories
have hidden meanings of cultural and racial differences to the extent of showing how stereotypes
negatively alter one s mindset of how they will behave towards another group of people because of
the differences they hold. I believe that an individual thinks they have superiority over another and
that is why negative connotations are made. Stanley Weinbaum s A Martian Odyssey, tells the story
of a man named Jarvis who meets an extraterrestrial named Tweel. Although they have physical
differences, Jarvis and Tweel get along. However, Harrison

  • 2. Who Is Van Gogh A Savage Since the very young age Van Gogh s art caught my attention. Unique and expressive, Van Gogh created his pieces to be representations of his mental work and experience. In his painting Dutch master achieves architectural effects by putting extremely thick paint applications. From my personal experience it is amazing (I ve seen couple of his works in Russian Hermitage) how he didn t fear the canvas or paints. People of his epoch, when comparing his works to Monet s probably thought that Van Gogh is a savage. But this pure energy of a savage had passed through generations and lives today through many reprints and we study it today. But Van Gogh wasn t just a savage, he was a master, but he achieved this state of perfection uniquely, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Cider House Rules Directed By Lasse Hallstrom Fallible humans are undoubtedly susceptible to forming erroneous judgements or premature opinions, but it can always be fixed. The Cider House Rules directed by Lasse HallstrГ¶m is a film replete with controversial issues still relevant to today, such as abortion, substance abuse, and morally questionable sexual affairs. I once thought I had critical thinking down perfectly, yet my reactions to certain parts of the film proved otherwise. On the occasions which I stereotyped characters, made hasty conclusions, and followed double standards, I recognized numerous pitfalls within my own critical thinking. When I saw characters that I felt fit a specific category of people, I often inadvertently stereotyped them to act or be a certain way. Dr. Larch, whom is in charge of the deliveries and illegal abortions of babies in the orphanage, often abused ether to get high. Combining the fact that he performed illegal medical procedures, I immediately stereotyped him as unsympathetic, selfish, and neglectful drug abuser. Because I neglected the contingency of unaddressed factors, such as experiencing cognitive dissonance or stressing over the demands of his work, motivating him to behave the way he did, I felt as though my first impressions tend to be a bit harsh and inconsiderate. Another instance in which I stereotyped was when Homer first arrives at Wally Worthington s house and family orchard, and it portrays naked black men showering outside. Without considering the time period and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. A Review Of Language Learning Skills Essay A Review of Language Learning Skills in VoiceThread VoiceThread is a Web 2.0 tool, a cloud application that gives users many options to communicate. Its unique features give users the opportunity to communicate by microphone, webcam, text, phone, and audio file upload over a period of time (VoiceThread, 2016). VoiceThread supports users ongoing communication, and it is used by teachers in languagelearning classrooms. It aids language teachers by providing a platform to present, submit, and evaluate language learning lessons and activities which are based on language learning skills. Specifically, VoiceThread aids teachers when teaching language learning skills such as listening, speaking, communicative competence and interaction. All of these skills are equally important for the skilldevelopment of L2 English language learners, however, the ability to utilize listening skills in this application is the foundation for language learners to respond, speak, interact, and communicate using VoiceThread. In that sense, listening skills are necessary for effective interactions in VoiceThread. Explicitly, learners need to use their listening skills in order to understand and communicate with other learners in VoiceThread. Aisha Walker and Goodith White echoes this idea when they list all of the listening skills that are needed to understand and respond to a spoken message in their book, Technology Enhanced Language Learning: Connecting theory and practice. It is our contention that RM is inherently an ethical activity, since enduring relationships cannot be built or sustained without a solid moral foundation. Before moving on, it is important to deп¬Ѓne and clarify our view of relationship marketing. As Kotler and Keller (2006), Gummesson (1999) and others have stated, RM has the aim of building mutually satisfying long term relations with key parties customers, suppliers, distributors in order to earn and retain their businesses. Norberg (2001) listed 14 deп¬Ѓnitions of RM taken from the literature during the last 15 years. Most of the deп¬Ѓnitions indicate that there are separate phases of a relationship such as its foundation and maintenance. Furthermore, elements like trust, equity and involvement tend to foster this bond and contribute to long term partner satisfaction. This paper is divided into four parts. First, we examine the historical roots of relationship marketing. The second section characterizes both the American and European views on RM. Third, we present a model of ethical relationship marketing and discuss its components. Within the model, the theory of virtue and several relevant virtues that we believe are essential for successful RM are examined. In the subsequent discussion, we lay the groundwork for those who might attempt to measure the presence of these characteristics in business and consumer partnerships that have been claimed to be successful. Finally, we draw implications for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Comparing The Lowest Animal And A Time Of Gifts The Lowest Animal, was written by Mark Twain and it portrays the bad side of man. Twain goes over the negative characteristics of man in comparison with animals. On the other hand, A Time of Gifts, by Stephen Gould portrays the good side of man. Gould focuses on the good characteristics of man and how these good characteristics shine through in times of trial. Both the good and bad sides of man have importance and each side can be easily argued for. Whether good outweighs the bad or bad outweighs the good is a controversial debate. In The Lowest Animal, Mark Twain s story declares that man is not the Top animal, but is in fact the animal of lowest descent. Twain points out how man is needlessly cruel, greedy, indecent, brutal, etc. Animals do not have the ability to decipher between right and wrong. They do only what they... Man is good, but man is also bad. Good doesn t override the bad and bad doesn t override the good. You can not have light without darkness or darkness without light. It is the same with the good and bad sides of man. One can not exist without the other. The goodness of man should outweigh the bad but that is impossible. • 11. Internal Tensions Of The Qing Dynasty Of China The Qing dynasty of China, which began in 1644, was seen as very isolationist and wary of foreign trade and imports. However, the Europeans were very interested in developing two way trade with China. Europeans had to pay directly in silver for the porcelain, silk, spices, and tea they imported from China. This was a significant stress on the European economy, which was already strained from internal tensions. In the early 1700 s the Portuguese introduced a new form of smoke able opium to China. The opium was mixed with tobacco and became a new commodity in China. • 12. Essay on The Deeper Meaning of Frost’s Tuft of Flowers The Deeper Meaning of Frost s Tuft of Flowers Robert Lee Frost published his first book of poems entitled A Boy s Will in 1913. From this collection come one of several poems that critics and anthologists alike highly regard as both lyrical and autobiographical in nature. One such critic, James L. Potter, in his book entitled [The] Robert Frost Handbook, explains [that] Frost wore a mask in public much of the time, concealing his personal problems and complexities from his reading and listening audiences (Potter 48). Through The Tuft of Flowers, a kind of lyrical soliloquy, Frost half intentionally reveals his personal views on the theme of fellowship (Potter 48). The speaker notes that the butterfly flies as far as eye could see / (but) on tremulous wing came back to me (17 18). Here, the butterfly seems to parallel the thoughts the speaker has about the field and the delight it brought both of them the day before. The reader can infer from this comparison that Frost, like the butterfly, has enjoyed great beauty, joy, and love at certain times during his life but because the grass chokes the beauty in the field, the good times are beset with feelings of loneliness and grief. The butterfly eventually turns and leads the speaker to a tall tuft of flowers beside a brook (22). The significance of the flowers and the brook can not be overlooked, because at this place in the poem the mood suddenly swings from pessimism to optimism. It seems that God was trying to send a message to Frost that the field of life can be filled with beauty and he might not always be alone in his life s work (22). This couplet of the poem is significant because it gives us a clue to how God reveals to the speaker that, although the field of life appears barren, a brook nourishes the ground to give life to the beauty he possesses. In addition, through God s infinite wisdom and mercy, Frost s loneliness and grief will someday again turn back into fellowship and joy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Nazi Germany And The Nazi Party Essay Propaganda was significant in Germany in the period of 1933 to 1945 as it affected the people of Germany greatly since propaganda was presented to people in their everyday lives in some manner or form, making it inescapable. Propaganda was used mainly to display anti Semitic beliefs about Jews and others who were thought of as irrelevant to Nazi Germanysuch as the disabled, mentally ill, gypsies, communists and non Aryans who were all affected greatly by propaganda. Hitler and the Nazi Party achieved this through their propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels who used every form of media (radio, posters, newspapers, films, music and the arts) to portray the greatness of German culture. Though, some of these forms of propaganda displayed different levels of effectiveness making some forms more significant than others. One of the most significant forms of propaganda in their impact on Germany was the use of radio. Radios and radio licences summed to 90% of the ministry s expenses, which show how Hitler s messages, speeches and Nazi related broadcasts reached such a broad audience of the German population because radio was extremely accessible. Hitler made sure that radios were cheap enough for every family to afford so that his speeches were publicised, giving Hitler more opportunity to manipulate Germany and glorify the Nazi party. The significance of this form of propaganda is that the radio was such a regular part of family life, and would ve been played frequently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Impacts Of The 18th And 18th Amendments The Eighteenth and Nineteenth Amendments The Eighteenth Amendment states that, one year after the states ratified the article, the making, selling, and importing or exporting of alcohol is illegal unless for medicinal or religious reasons. Congress can pass any laws it finds necessary to uphold the Eighteenth Amendment. If Вѕ of the states did not ratify the article within seven years, then the article would not take effect. (18th Amendment) One impact of the Eighteenth Amendment was the end, in theory, of the sale and consumption of alcohol. America had just returned from World War Iwhen Prohibition was started. The men had gotten addicted to morphine and heroine and could no longer buy those drugs so they bought the cheapest thing they could find alcohol. This started a wave of drunkenness across the country and the women were not happy. The women had taken men s place in the workforce while they were gone and, when the men came back, they lost all their jobs to the men. But, the men were not working. Instead, they were getting drunk all day, trying to forget what they saw at war. This angered women greatly. Because the women had gained power from working the men s jobs during the war, the women used their power to promote Prohibition across the country. Another impact of the Eighteenth Amendment is the rise of organized crime. It is the law of supply and demand. When the supply of a product, alcohol, goes down, the demand for it goes up. The first month centred on familiarizing myself with the two buildings and gaining and understanding as to how they function. I spent time learning about the history of both sites. I took place in an orientation for about the first two weeks of work. The orientation was led by museum curator, Patricia Hamilton. I was guided through the Huron County Museum, Huron Historic gaol and Sky Harbour Gallery with the help of Pat and the audio tour mates. Pat gave us students all of the basic knowledge that we would need to know about the three sites in order to answer questions from tourists and the general public. • 17. The Neurodevelopmental Disorders ( Asd ) The neurodevelopmental disorders, according to the DSM 5, are a group of conditions with onset in the developmental period. The disorders typically manifest early in development, often before the child enters grade school, and are characterized by developmental deficits that produce impairments of personal, social, academic, or occupational functioning. Autismspectrum disorder (ASD) is newly classified as such; it was once classified as Asperger s Syndrome. ASD is a severe neurodevelopmental impairment. The disorder limits the functioning capabilities of children and their capacity to communicate as well as interact with others. ASD effects how children perceive the world around them; socializing with others happens to be the most vital piece of development. Onset for ASD can occur as early as infancy, some children, however, may develop normal and then begin to suddenly withdraw and become unusually aggressive with those around them, they also begin to lose vocabulary and language skills they ve once had. Other medical conditions may be comorbid with ASD; for example, epilepsy, intellectual and structural language disorders, mental disorders, sleep disorders, and avoidant restrictive food intake disorders, (DSM 5, pg. 59). The Importance of Wealth in Antony and Cleopatra and The Tempest Wealth and it s relationship to poverty figures in heavily in two of the plays we have read thus far in class. In both Antony and Cleopatra and The Tempest we are treated to characters and situations that deal with wealth and poverty. Specifically however, both plays have visions of an abundanceof wealth that seems at times both corruptible and foolish. The Tempest by virtue of plot seems and even more direct attack on wealth and abundance. In the play, characters are stripped of their real world places and placed in an area where everything is quite different. The abundance here becomes for some characters, the so called hope for the New World that we have discussed in class. Thus, the best way to eradicate the disease is by eliminating microfilaria from the infected individuals, which therefore will interrupt the process of transmitting the infection by the mosquito. Administration of diethylcarbamazine concurrently with albendazole or invermectin (DEC) is proven to eliminate 99% of microfilaria from the infected individual. Albeit advance treatment of this disease is currently available, vigorous action should be taken by the communities and the respective agencies to abolish all potential breeding sites for mosquitoes. WHO classify this disease a disease of the poor, due to its pervasiveness to occur in remote rural areas. Thus, if I were to construct two premises on filariasis, I would say; first, to have a filariasis is to live in poverty. Second, people are infected by filariasis. And therefore, I would conclude that those who are infected by filariasis are most likely to live in poverty. As has been stated by the WHO, the fight to eliminate filariasis is also a fight against poverty . Malaria is another example of vector borne infectious disease that uses mosquitos as vectors and would infects the blood. Malaria remains a big problem in many sub tropical and tropical countries. Questions that traditionally required exhaustive hands on analysis can now be quickly answered directly from data. In the second category, data mining tools sweep through databases and identify previously hidden patterns in one step. This category is where the major focus of research has been on. • 38. Education And The Current System Of Teaching In the history of education, there are many events and people which one could say are the most important in the development of the current systems of teaching. Here, I have put together a summary of five such monumental events and influential people which I consider the most important regarding schooling and educationin the U.S.. Starting with the first establishment of higher education in the U.S., Harvard University, and the first public library, set up in 1698 in South Carolina, and the evolution controversy, which has been ongoing since 1925, and significant figures including John Locke, and Christian von Wolff, the following text describes their importance to the current workings of public school systems in the U.S.. The Massachusetts Bay Colony is responsible for putting into place the first institute of higher education in the U.S., beginning with nine students in 1836 (History | Harvard University). I believe this to be an important step in the educational history of the U.S. because today, we have many post secondary institutions, and the normalization of such education is important. It is evident that it is being normalized, as Harvard University started with only nine students and nowadays has more than 20,000 students aiming for a degree (History | Harvard University). In 1690, John Locke, a philosopher and political theorist, as well as a teacher at the University of Oxford, published an essay titled the Essay Concerning Human Understanding (Connolly). In it, ... • 39. Neoliberalism In Canada Introduction Unions have a long and sometimes contentious history in Canada, although they are also the source of many of the labour laws and standards that we have come to accept as normal. However, since the 1980s, an increasing trend towards favouring neoliberal policies has erased many of the social welfare and employment standards gains by unions, with particularly harsh effects on more vulnerable populations including women, immigrants, younger workers, and Aboriginal peoples. A striking example of these shifts is seen in the restaurant sector in B.C., where recent controversies with Canada s temporary foreign worker program has at least brought some discussions of worker s rights to the headlines in regional and national newspapers. Unfortunately, despite this new attention the current political climate continues to be hostile to workers groups and to workers rights. • 40. Underlying Neurobiological Processes It has been agreed in the literature that memories can generally be defined in terms of time (Nader, Schafe LeDoux, 2000). Memory is sensitive to disruption soon after learning as it is in a labile state of short term memory (STM). Conversely, memory enters a stable form and is less sensitive to such disruptions in long term memory(LTM) at a later stage after learning (Nader et al.). Research has argued that the process in which labile new memories transform into stable long lasting memories is known as consolidation (Nader et al.). After memories are consolidated, they can re enter states of transient instability, making them vulnerable to disruption immediately after retrieval (Yue et al., 2012; Si et al., 2012). This is known as memory reconsolidation (Yue et al.; Si et al.). Finally, the re exposure to a particular context without reinforcement can lead to memory extinction (Merlo Romano, 2008).That is, the temporary weakening of an earlier conditioned response can lead to extinction (Merlo Romano). However, the number of events or duration of a single event in that exposure will determine whether memory extinction or reconsolidation is activated (Merlo Romano). Although learning to fear danger is essential to survival, many anxiety disorders are underpinned by the dysregulation of the fear system (OyarzГєn et al., 2012). Accordingly, much research has been dedicated to developing strategies for supressing fear memories in maladaptive cases (OyarzГєn et al.; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Scottsboro Trial In To Kill A Mockingbird Ever since the inception of slavery in the United States, white families have falsely accused black men of rape in order to gain power and demonize their slaves. Rape has been used by white men in order to gain and keep power since the beginnings of their supremacy (Haynes 1). This is true for both actual rapeand false rape accusations, as assault takes away a victim s power and a false accusation takes away that of the accused. As such, white families have accused men, specifically black men, of raping the white women in their communities and families for centuries. Almost all of these cases resulted in the death of the defendant, either by lynching (the illegal murder of a marginalized person) or the death penalty. Of these deaths, 66%... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is due to a centuries old racial tension in this part of the country. Subsequently, it is also the setting for To Kill A Mockingbird. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee uses the trial of Tom Robinson to showcase how false rape accusations such as the trial of Pleasant, a slave, and the Scottsboro trials were used as power plays by white families against black men. In the case of Tom Robinson, Mayella and Bob Ewell used rape accusations in order to obtain power and control over Tom and the black community of Maycomb, Alabama. Mayella claims that Tom choked and beat her with his left hand and proceeded to rape her until her father returned home. However, Tom s left arm was fully twelve inches shorter than his right, and hung dead at his side (Lee 248). This reveals that her story about him beating her could not have been true. The use of the word dead is an indication that he has no control whatsoever over his hand. As his left hand was useless, Tom could not have caused bruising to the right side of her face. Even after her story was disproven, Tom was found guilty, largely due to the fact that his jury was comprised of white farmers and not of his peers. According to Scout ... The organizational culture and subcultures within a business determines, to a larger extent, how the business performs and the quality of people that comprises an organization. Such culture is often initially created on purpose, but takes on life and identity of its own, developing organically and eventually controls and cultivates people within the organization. The case of Lincoln Electric Company is an interesting one, starting from the very early beginnings when the company was run by the brothers, the original founder John Lincoln who decided to concentrate on inventions and R D side of things, who handed the helm over to his brother, James Lincoln. The management system and underlying philosophy at Lincoln can be characterized by clarity and commitment. The system was instituted with clear priority and purpose and the management had confidence and courage to commit to the decisions they made. The order of priority, namely customers first, employees next and stockholders last, makes any subsequent decision making simple. The values that founded this order of priority, as well as benefits provided to each of these categories, are based on Christian values, but the empathetic approach that results is most certainly beneficial to anyone in any of these categories. In what appears to be an important section of the Critique of Pure Reason, when Kant attempts to show the natural connection between the table of judgment and the table of categories, there is a cryptic little paragraph: The same function that gives unity to the different representations in a judgment also gives unity to the mere synthesis of different representations in an intuition, which, expressed generally, is called the pure concept of understanding. The same understanding, therefore, and indeed by means of the very same actions through which it brings the logical form of a judgment into concepts by means of the analytical unity, also brings a transcendental content into its representations by means of the synthetic unity of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will provisionally think of it as referring to the faculty of understanding and not solely one or more of the pure concepts of the understanding.11 The main interpretive dilemma of this passage revolves around the term transcendental content. It may be the case that Kant wants to contrast the Transcendental Logic s possession of objective content with general logic s lack of content. However the term could also refer to the fact that the understanding has a transcendental function, and could be indicating the transcendental nature of the categories. Each of these interpretations will be evaluated in turn. The Argument At its most basic, with all the explanatory clauses stripped away the argument appears thus:22 P1 The Understanding gives unity to different representations in a judgment P2 The Understanding gives unity to the synthesis of representations in an intuition. C The Understanding Brings Transcendental Content to its representations. Need anymore be said?33 The argument is easier to follow, though by no means clear, if we take into account a missing or explanatory premise: PE The very actions that brings the logical form of a judgment to concepts also brings a transcendental content into the understanding s representations. The most important element of the argument is the fact that it is the very same actions which allow logical forms to be used in contentful judgments that necessitate the transcendental role of the ... Racial Differences In Ta-Nehisi Coates s Sonny s Blues In Between the World and Me, Ta Nehisi Coates depicts how an African American man should behave in America based on other people s perception of their race. In the essay, he speaks to his son about how a black man is obligated to be twice as good and how a black man takes responsibility for another black man. Coates highlights the expectations of black peopleand the struggle to go beyond what society has labeled them as because of their differences in skin color and the stereotypes that the majority has perceived them as. In relation to social differences, James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues, expresses how differences in livelihood metal in between relationships and growth. The narrator in the story fails to broaden his mindset that his brother, Sonny, can change from his drug addiction and that his students have more a chance to end up like Sonny rather than making a positive impact on their lives. My own claim is that alien stories have hidden meanings of cultural and racial differences to the extent of showing how stereotypes negatively alter one s mindset of how they will behave towards another group of people because of the differences they hold. I believe that an individual thinks they have superiority over another and that is why negative connotations are made.
