Jacksonian Democracy Essay
Jacksonian Democracy
Jacksonian (Democracy, Society, etc.) is a term used to describe reform during the time of Andrew
Jackson s Presidency. Specifically Jacksonian Democracy refers to the general extension of
democracy that characterized U.S. politics from 1824 to 1828. Jacksonian Democracy and its support
came primarily from the lower classes as a rebellion of sorts apposing the aristocracy. Even though it
stressed equality, it was pro slavery and anti Indian (not unlike Andrew Jackson). Also there was
change in both the political parties and the social reforms. Jackson was seen as a westerner (even
though he was from Tennessee) and a president of the common man. This we can see when he married
women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Democrats wanted to limit the role of government in the market and wanted to resolve the
tensions among the Northeast, West, and South. Also they wanted to do away with the national bank
(Jackson put a lot of money into city and state bands as a result) and sell land at low rates and leave
internal improvement basically to the states to deal with. The proposed government of the democrats
was one centered in local affairs (one of the most important was slavery). Jackson therefore wanted
weak central government within a permanent union. However soon came up the issue of Nullification
with South Carolinas attempt to nullify the tariff of 1828.
Social reform was underway as well with a number of institutions and social movements being
devoted to improving morals of individuals and society in general. Schools started to pop up around
the country. Public tax supported schools set up by Whigs in the north. The school systems were
centralized at the state level and made attendance mandatory. Temperance was also part of this reform,
and this was the most sustained movement in social history. The good old crusade against the use of
alcohol that began in 1820. The reason for this it was argued was that alcohol led to violence, personal
and social disintegration and was associated with being out of control. This effort was headed up by
the middle class (women mostly) that assumed poverty, crime, and every other thing wrong with
society was a result

Pros And Cons Of Texting On Writing
In the academic article Does Texting Affect Writing? Michaela Cullington weighs the pros and mostly
cons on texting hindering your formal writing. A college level paper is to be considered the first step
in writing at a scholarly level by experts. In high school we write for the recreation with genres like
short stories or poems. In college we are expected to write more for rhetorical analysis or things that
don t include your personal point of view. Texting hasn t been around and as trendy as it is now as the
average person doesn t start texting until their freshman year of high school. Texting use to be frowned
upon as a sort of childish thing but as Cullington states ...and is even becoming popular in the business
world because it allows quick messages to be sent without people having to commit to a telephone
conversation.
Early on Cullington gave us all the contrary implications of texting s effect. Things like Textspeak or
abbreviations and acronyms used in student s formal writing are some of the many negative
connotations of texting. For example teachers we finding that student were using slang like GTG
which is short for the phrase got to go peppered through writing samples. Another disagreement she
had was with the student s misuse of or lack thereof punctuation in their writing. Because texting
doesn t emphasize the importance of the correct punctuation in writing students overlook the simple
things in writing formally. She also feels, like many others, that

Head Start Observation
As I finish up my last two hours at the Early Childhood Center that resides on the university s campus,
it has been an adventure for me. I have acquired many new skills for the classroom, Shadowing for

Winston Salem s University s campus in its own secluded area, where students who attend Winston

rough part of town. Around you can find low income based housing, run down gas stations and ABC

Temple University Personal Statement Essay
Temple University, Japan Campus
Personal Statement for Daniel Zarate
A significant moment in my life is the day I had the good fortune of meeting with Temple University,
Japan Campus representative, Nathan Crowne at Santa Monica College s College Fair last year. I was
immediately connected to Nathan and his enthusiastic introduction of TUJ. TUJ s affordability is most
remarkable to me because as a low income student it will support my financial situation and allow for
me to pursue my goals to travel the world, become multilingual and become an attorney. Ever since I
met with Nathan, TUJ has become my number one choice for transfer. I am writing in hopes that you
will favorably consider my application.
As a first generation American of Salvadorian and Mexican descent, I am fluent in English and
Spanish. Although I am bilingual, Santa Monica College s multinational student body was a culture
shock for me because of the many languages I overheard. I decided to learn Japanese because of my
pleasant and friendly experiences with the Japanese community. With the assistance of my Japanese
friends, I have completed elementary level Japanese 2 from SMC and learned much about the
fascinating culture. This summer I will travel to Japan in aim to visit many Japanese cities, eat a lot of

My goal at TUJ is to obtain a Bachelor s degree in International Business Studies and Japanese
Language. Later, I hope to attend USC Gould School of Law and graduate as an attorney. Finally, I
plan to serve as an attorney on the board of an international company s entertainment department such
as Red Bull, GoPro, or Universal. In pursuit of my goals I volunteer as a Youth Advocate and Beach
Captain for Heal the Bay, serve as President and Founder of the Adelante club at SMC and I have

Divorce Is A Win And A Loss For Parents And Children
Divorce is a Win and a Loss for Parents and Children The divorce rate in today s society according to
Barbara Dafoe Whitehead is higher than ever. Although people have a legal right to file for divorce, it
is still viewed as an ethical problem. Barbara Dafoe Whitehead writes in The Making of a Divorce
Culture , that divorce has become an ethical problem in the United States. In today s society, divorce is
viewed as a social norm, and that couples should have a right to file for divorce with no stigma.
Although Whitehead argues that divorce is an ethical issue, she also shows reasons why couples
should carefully think of filing for divorce before making a final decision such as their children s
consideration. Whitehead successfully presents the divorce culture as a very serious ethical problem
by giving ideas of why parents are getting divorced, and how their children can be effected by it.
Although divorce is viewed as an ethical problem, people still have the right to file for a divorce if it is
for their own satisfaction. We never know what happens behind closed doors between a couple, and
what types of issues they are going through. Whitehead mentions in her article about how abusive and
how demolorizing some relationships can be. In her article, Whitehead states We must assume that
divorce is necessary as a remedy for irretrievably broken marriages, especially those that are marred
by severe abuse such as chronic infidelity, drug addiction, or physical

Naturalisitic Observation Essay
Naturalistic observation takes place as scientists perform observations in a naturally occurring
situation, without becoming actively involved. In performing naturalistic observations, a scientist does
not make an effort to manipulate or change what is occurring. The purpose of this kind of
experimentation is to create a detailed record of the events that happen and of perceptible associations
between events, without having any control on the results. Apparently the objective in performing
naturalistic observation is to arrange the data collection so that what is going on is comprehensible to
the observer, but is not so important or conspicuous that they become the focus of attention or matter
to participants.
Natural observation is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also hypothesize that 80% of these participants who are wearing a seat belt will be Caucasian and
75% of them will be African American.
To gather my data, I began by preparing a chart. This chart included seven columns that described
twenty five cars, a yes and a no column, a female and male column and an African American and a
Caucasian participant s column. I continued my research by situating myself in front of the University
Center at approximately noon on April 28th. . I positioned myself on a bench to the right because that
is where cars enter the parking lot. I sat there with my sunglasses on as if I was waiting for someone
or just catching some sun. As cars came through the entrance, I would glance over in that direction,
with sunglasses on so that it doesn t appear that I looking straight into the car. I recorded in my chart
each time a new car entered. When I had observed twenty five drivers, my chart showed that out of
these twenty five drivers, twelve were women and thirteen were men.
. The observations showed there were distinctions between the number of men wearing seat belts and
women wearing them as well as a difference observed how many Caucasian drivers wore seat belts
and how many African American drivers did. My results conclude that 91.6% of women wear their
seat belts while only 42.6% of males use it. I was also able to conclude that 69.2% of the black

Summary Of The Canterbury Tales And Miller s Tale
In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, there are 29 pilgrims making their way to Canterbury to see the
shrine to Thomas A Becket, who was martyred there. They are accompanied by Chaucer, the narrator,
and Harry Bailey, the host. The host proposes a storytelling contest to help pass the time. The Host is
the sole judge of the contest, and each story is judged on its entertainment and moral factors. The
winner will receive a free meal, paid for by all the other pilgrims upon their arrival back at the inn.
Each Pilgrim was to tell two stories on the way there, and two on the way back. The pilgrims stories
covered a large spectrum of subjects and morals along the way. The wide variety of the stories, in a
way, makes it easier for the judge to judge the stories, but also harder. A good example of two very
contrasting stories in the contest are the Miller s Tale and the Man at Law s Tale. The Man at Law s
Tale would have won the contest. Even though it is not in the same rhyme scheme, has a confusing
storyline and some evil characters, it is far more clean, moral, and appropriate than the adultery, lies,
and scandal of the Miller s Tale. Before The Miller s Tale, The Host encourages him not to go, because
he is too drunk, and will not be able to clearly tell a good story. He tells him, Now hold on, Robin,
dear old brother;/ We ll get some better man to tell another;/ You wait a bit. Let s have some common
sense. (21 23). The Miller responds to this angrily, saying God s soul,

My Out Of Class Speaker Critique Assignment
For my out of class speaker critique assignment, I chose to go and attend the public lecture on campus
by Mr. Jim Davis, the creator of the Garfield the Cat syndicated comics. The event took place in Sursa
Hall inside the Music Instruction Building, and it lasted an hour and half long from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.
This lecture occurred on Wednesday, February 15th. In his speech, Mr. Davis talked about his youthful
years, the initial challenges he faced, the business strategies he used, and the wild adventure he
endured throughout his comical Garfield business adventures. Regarding his desired response from the
audience in his speech, Mr. Davis made it overtly clear that he wanted the audience to listen and learn
from his story. I was able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Otherwise, there seemed to be no significant or obvious distinction amongst members. The attitudinal
makeup of the audience was either neutral or positive, as Davis and his work are most known for
being lighthearted and joyful. Mr. Davis undoubtedly considered these elements when he planned his
lecture, as a large portion of it was centered around the nostalgic feeling the Garfield comics give to
the crowd (C3). Regarding the introduction used during the lecture, I felt that it was more than
effective in its explanation of Davis by showing what he is primarily known for, what the audience
was about to witness, and by creating a favorable atmosphere for the lecture. To gain the audience s
attention, a video demonstrating Mr. Davis s history and accomplishments was played before he began
his lecture. Overall, I thought that it was a moderately effective introduction because it reinforced the
interest of the audience, displayed the significance Davis has to the illustration business, and presented
his credibility as well known illustrator. For example, I thought it was interesting that the
administrator jokingly announced Davis as a man too important to be talking a public lecture. On the
other hand, however, I also thought that the introduction was somewhat ineffective in that it never
overviewed what was going to be talked about in the rest of the lecture (C4). Concerning the support
used in the speech, Mr. Davis relied heavily on qualitative

Internal And External Conflicts In Hamlet
Conflict is indispensable to drama. Show that the inward conflicts are equally important as the
outward conflict in the play.
Hamlet faces both internal and external conflicts from the beginning of the play. In the play, the inner
and outer conflicts of Hamlet seem to arise from the death of his father, King Hamlet, by his uncle,
now King Claudius. Since Hamlets life pervades with conflicts as the confusion he faces essentially
becomes the main focus of the play. However, Hamlet contains a diverse set of conflicts, of which
Hamlet s inner conflicts are as prominent as his conflicts with other characters. As Hamlet deals with
dilemmas within himself, other individuals, and the supernatural figure of his father. Shakespeare

The two characters are facing both internal and external conflicts throughout the play. Hamlet s
madness is portrayed through his thoughts as he is says he can kill Claudius at that moment. Hamlet s
innermost feelings towards Claudius is brought out in his sixth soliloquy. Hamlet s initial thought
being Now might I do it pat (3.3.73) displays his willingness to take action and commit the murder.
However, his conscience stop him from committing the murder as he comes to the realization that
Claudius sins will be exempted if he were to die while striving repentance. Hamlet s desire to punish
Claudius is shown as he wants to ensure the dead of his uncle lasts an eternity and not a moment. This
conflict between Hamlet and Claudius allows the development of the play as it is essentially revolves
around the dead of King Hamlet. The struggle between Hamlet and the forces of nature are brought
upon through the interaction with the Ghost. This is an external conflict as it is a struggle seen through
the communication amongst the Ghost and the protagonist, himself. Hamlet first encounters his father
s spirit and contemplates whether or not he is a demon pretending to be the former King of Dane. The
Ghost reveals his reason of death to be due to being poisoned and murdered by Claudius when he
states, but know, thou noble youth, The serpent that did sting thy Fathers life, Now wears his crown.

Essay on Consciousness As Determined Th
Consciousness is understood in a variety of ways. In one belief, a person is conscious when awake,
but unconscious when sleeping or comatose. Yet people also do things requiring perception and
thought unconsciously even when they are awake. A person can be conscious of their physical
surroundings, pain and even a wish or fantasy. In short a creature is conscious if it is aware of itself
and that it is a physical and emotional being. Consciousness is a psychological condition defined by
the English philosopher John Locke as quot;the perception of what passes in a man s own mind
quot;.1
Consciousness is defined and perceived differently in many psychological view points. For instance
the earlier views around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They held that consciousness was involved with every working mental state. In this view the mind is
transparent to itself that is, it can perceive it s own activity. For three centuries self transparence was
the defining feature of the mind. That conception was sprung through the theories of Wilhelm Wundt
and Edward Titchener who were advocates off a science of introspection.
Early in the 20th century the transparency doctrine came to a setback for three different reasons. The
first reason was Sigmund Freud s compelling evidence that some very important mental activity is not
only subconscious but firmly resists conscious access through repression. At first Freud s idea of
unconscious was treated as self contradictory, but it has since won acceptance as being useful and
entirely possible.
the second difficulty for the transparency doctrine was that it made the mind impossible for objective
science. What is known introspectively to a single person would be utterly private and therefore can
not be viewed scientifically. Scientific method demands objectivity and reportable data. The
behaviorists John B. Watson and B.F. Skinner and the philosopher Gilbert Ryle rebelled against the
idea of an inner sense and denied the very existence of consciousness in the strong sense exhibited by
Locke, Descartes and the introspective psychologists.3 Ryle insisted that mind is an illusory concept
and that it is

Team Feedback Seeking Behavior ( Fsb )
Team Feedback seeking Behavior Feedback seeking behavior (FSB) refers to individuals search for
evaluative information about their performance, internal processes and other behaviors for attaining
valued goals (Crommelinck Anseel, 2013; De Stobbeleir, Ashford, Buyens, 2011). FSB is one of the
proactive behaviors whereby individuals preemptively seek for feedback either by directly asking or
indirectly observing cues in the environment to infer from them (Ashford, De Stobbeleir, Nujella,
2016). Accordingly, team FSB can be defined as team members collective search for evaluative
information about the behavior and performance of individual teammates and the team as a whole (De
Stobbeleir et al., 2011; Robison Weldon, 1993). Intrateam feedback involves team members providing
information about other teammates performance and/or asking input or guidance about their own
performance (Dickinson McIntyre, 1997). Team FSB constitutes goal oriented behavior where team
members aim to improve their chances of attaining their valued objectives, such as skill development,
improved performance, citizenship behavior, or creativity (Ashford et al., 2016; Crommelinck Anseel,
2013). Thus, contrary to the traditional belief that depicts feedback seeking as a strategy to conform to
the requirements of the environment (Parker Collins, 2010), here feedback seeking is used as an
individual and/or a team resource that can help individuals and teams to achieve a variety of outcomes

Female Roles Of Female Mobile Dj Essay
Female what? That s right, DJs. Women are beginning to blossom in an industry highly saturated and
associated with men, proving they can rise to the occasion. Female mobile DJ s, why aren t there
more? I Chose this question because I myself have been wanting to start DJ ing for a while now and
when people think of DJ s I assume they only think of males. This question is a hot topic and also very
interesting to me because I will be soon DJ ing and would like to know why men dominate this field.
As I started conducting research on this question I started to find answers for my question right away.
I also looked up gender diversity which means how different genders are represented in a relevant
setting. Though I am not a DJ yet it seems as if female DJ s have felt like it s close to an impossible
task in front of them. That despite pumping out great mixes and working as hard as you can, the
recognition from booking agents and promoters and the subsequent gigs and success remain elusive.
Why? Why do female DJ s get the short end? Why do many female artists fail to break the top 10 lists
of any kind? Or why can t some female DJ s build brands that help them to achieve huge DJ ing
success? As I stumble across potential answers for my question the only thing that comes to mind is
that females don t think they are good enough because of what society says. And not just in DJ ing
but, beyond in many other fields. Women consistently underestimate their own talents and

Analysis of Relationship Between Modes of Production and Gender Inequality
Amongst societies, there is a great variety of means of survival, all of which are dependent upon
factors influencing the community geographical location and structure of authority, to name a few.
Such factors and the community s ways of survival create the underlying basis of other complex
issues, including the relationship between the sexes. Many anthropological papers that concentrate on
the modes of production of specific groups of people have shown a connection between the modes of
production and the presence or absence of gender inequality. Futhermore, there is also evidence of a
further causality between the two: as a society adopts a more complex mode of ... Show more content

Not only are the Agta women considered as significant providers of daily sustenance for their
respective families, they also have much influence in decision making within both their family and the

foraging. According to Estioko Griffin and Griffin, the Agta women have evidently shown much
participation equal to the men when dealing with hunting and gathering food resources. However, it
has also been stated that there is a slight presence of sexual division of labor. For example, when
hunting, most women do not directly hunt by bows and arrows, traps, or machetes, depending on the
geographical region in which they live. What most do instead is that they assist the men during the
hunt (Estioko Griffin Griffin 2012: 125). Nevertheless, their involvement in the hunting is quite
significant. The Agta women help carry game or wild animals back home, which is no small feat,
since such game consists of hefty pigs and deer. In regions such as the Malibu River, there are women
who are deemed as proficient in hunting with bows and arrows (Estioko Griffin Griffin 2012: 126).
Another means of obtaining food is through fishing, an activity equally performed by both genders.
The only selectivity exhibited is when a woman is either pregnant or physically older; however, such

Midnight Assassin Essay
(hook) Midnight Assassin written by Patricia L. Bryan and Thomas Wolf. Bryan and Wolf showcase
the main characters Margaret and John Hossack in the book Midnight Assassin. As the book tells
about the murder of John Hossack in rural Indianola, Iowa in December of 1900, the book also
includes the countless hours of Margaret Hossack trials where the jury tries to find who is truly guilty
for this murder. Based on evidence in this book shows that Margaret Hossack is the one who
committed this murder and clearly shows her motives as to why she killed her husband John Hossack.
Evidence shows that Margaret Hossack had many reason as to why she killed her husband John

The morning after the murder Lee Braucht and Johnnie Hossack went looking for the ax where they
soon found it thrown under the granary with wet blood and hair on it (25). Margaret claims she didn t
know that the ax was found under the granary, that it had blood spots on it, and that it was confirmed
to be the murder weapon (29). In one of Frank Keller s testimonies he tells about a conversation he
had with Margaret and she admitted that she knew exactly where the ax was under the granary, where
she then answered without hesitation (149). These are key pieces of evidence to the case because the
ax was the murder weapon and they found it thrown under the granary with wet blood and hair on it.
The fact that Margaret denies not knowing anything about the ax shows that she s trying to cover up
her tracks and act innocent to get away with the murder. Then quite a while later into the trial Frank
comes forward with new information about Margaret knowing where the ax was shows that she
committed the crime and knew exactly what the murder weapon was the morning after the attack.

Two-Way Billingual Immersion Programs Create...
Two way bilingual immersion programs not only create higher achieving students, but also more
equipped and confident students. Academically, TWBI students receive higher grades because of the
curriculum. Furthermore, 87% to 93% of past TWBI students stated they would not drop out
(Lindholm Leary). Indeed, the knowledge gained allows students to become more resilient, adapting
to the new language; independent, figuring out the language themselves; and confident, taking pride in
bilingualism. The TWBI program not only teaches another language, but also another culture. One of
the programs goals gears students toward culture awareness by exposing other countries custom

The programs should also start from Kindergarten to Eighth grade, so students can not only have
sufficient time to become bilingual, but also have the opportunity to either continue that language in
advance placement classes in high school or learn another language in their four years of high school.
The program will function with at least thirty percent of one language group with the other language
group in the same class room, despite the program s preference for half and half (Alanís Rodríguez).
There are two different types of two way immersion to choose: 90:10 and 50:50. 90:10 programs
commence with 90% instruction of the foreign language, gradually leveling to 50:50 by fourth grade.
In the 50:50 model, both languages receive equal amount of time across all eight years. While both
types of programs allow students to perform higher on test than any other program, 90:10 students
tend to score higher and be more fully bilingual than students in 50:50 (Lindholm Leary). Iliana Alanís

Chris Ofili Research Paper
In the second chapter of this dissertation it will focus on the work of Manchester born and black artist
Chris Ofili. Most known for his experimentation with elephant dung, Ofili communicates a humorous
and rather stereotypical reaction to how an African man should be painting, You don t exist, unless
you start to build yourself up, and start to work (Ofili 2010). There was much comment about Ofili
becoming the first black contemporary artist whose name and work was known to a wider British
public.
Ofili, compared to Yinka Shoniabre, has never abandoned the idea that notions of race and identity are
important factors within his artwork, Ofili quite simply understands that playing along side his
stereotypes has offered his career for where he is today. ...Portraiture and black subjectivity represent
important philosophical vectors in Ofili s powerful figurative art, as if this conjunction between
figuration and representation were not already visibly defined in the 181 watercolours. (Okwui
Enwezor : Chris Ofili : Tate : 72)
When one thinks back to Ofili s early days in the art world he once strived to be how Yinka Shonibare
communicates his art, not define him as a black artist. Ofili began his journey in Brick Lane market in
London where he had crafted small figurines made from elephant dung, named Shithead . The crafted
balls of dung attached with real teeth and strands of the artists dreadlocks which where held together
with cooper wire. (Figure 3) Alongside some

Benefits And Complications Of A Mechanical Ventilator
Throughout the 1940 s in America the use of Mechanical Ventilation known as a Vent Machine has
been used to sustain life. There is evidence that suggests millions are put on a ventilator each year. A
Mechanical Ventilator is a method to mechanically assist or replace spontaneous breathing. Also, it
delivers a positive or negative pressure directly to the lungs. In addition, breathing may be assisted by
a respiratory therapist, registered nurse, physician, physician assistant, paramedic, or other suitable

(Anzueto) Mechanical ventilators deliver the force needed to distribute air to the lungs for patient with
ventilator failure. Mechanical ventilation redistributes blood flow from functioning respiratory
muscles to other vital organs. The lungs primary function is to add oxygen and to remove CO2 from
the blood passing through the lung s capillary bed. The lungs are comprised of a million alveoli
(bunches of grapes) clinging to each other and emptying into the bronchiolar tree by the tributary
network of airways eventually emptying into main bronchi and trachea. There are multiple modes of
mechanical ventilation support that provide air to the patient based on pressure, flow and volume.
Although lifesaving, mechanical ventilation can be associated with life threatening complications,
including air leaks and pneumonia. I. Effect of multimodality chest physiotherapy on the rate of

Essay On The Colony Of Virginia
The colony of Virginia was founded by a stock company: the Virginia Company. To attract people
Virginia made a wonderful charter. Emigrants who paid their own way to Virginia got fifty acres of
land. There would not be mere tenants. Civil authority would control the military. A council of
burgesses, representatives chosen by the inhabitants of the colony for their government, would be
convened as the House of Burgesses. The governor could veto their actions and the company still had
overall control of the venture, but the settlers would have a say in their own government, including the
right of the House of Burgesses to introduce money bills. The King s court appointed a royal governor,

The governor chose six people in the colony to be in his council. The other fifteen people were chosen
by the king because of their family and wealth. In all, there were twenty two members that attended.
All the representatives were English. Each of the Virginian counties had sent a representative to the
house. The first meeting was on July 30, 1619. It was held in the choir of the church on Jamestown
Island. It lasted for six days, but was cut short by the disease, Malaria. Problems began to strike, like a
massacre from the Native Americans where they killed 400 colonists. As hard as the government tried
to conceal the problems, the king heard about them. He made virginia a crown colony. The king
divided the colony into eight shires. By 1643, there were 15 shires! Most jobs were simply
commanded to people. Only the representatives got votes to represent. Each shire would send a vote
for a representative to go and work in the House, rather than have it be just rich people. White men
that were seventeen years old or older and owned land were able to vote for these representatives. In
1652, Oliver Cromwell forced Jamestown to admit that they had been taken over. However, that did

An anti hero is the protagonist of a book that is the opposite of the hero. They are graceless and

Vonnegut writes, He had been saving Billy s life for days (34). Vonnegut is telling how Roland Weary,
who hates Billy, has to save him over and over again because he is to stupid to save himself. Also, war
is seen as ridiculous because Weary who doesn t even like Billy risks his life to save him just because
of his duty to do so.
Specific parts of the book add to the anti warism that it contains. One of these parts is when Vonnegut
writes, Above all, he wanted to be avenged, so he said again and again the name of the person who
had killed him (79). This part of the novel is telling about the death of Roland Weary. He told
everyone that Billy was responsible for his death. The soldiers should have been fighting the
opposition in the war instead of their own countrymen.

thinks that he is abducted by aliens that transport him to the planet of Tralfamadore. He learns things
about life from the Tralfamadorians and they learn things from him. He is transported many times

The Characteristics Of The School Approach By A German...
Bureaucracy
The principle of bureaucracy was propounded by a German sociologist by the name Max Weber in the
19th century. According to his study, bureaucracy is a formal system of organization and
administration, which is designed to ensure effectiveness and efficiency in organizing (Shafritz, Ott
Jang, 2015). Weber characterized bureaucracy as having a hierarchy or order of authority with explicit
rules, a clear division of labor, and impersonality. He emphasized that everything within a hierarchy
exists with an aim to achieve a similar goal. Nevertheless, bureaucracies are found at the federal, state,
county levels of government, and even at large companies for proper management and organization. In
fact, individuals who work for government agencies from the strategic managers to the subordinate are
called bureaucrats. However, most of the schools are bureaucratic as they follow the basic principles
of bureaucracy as illustrated below.
Schools have formal hierarchical structure, which is the first characteristics of bureaucracy. In a
hierarchical structure, each level controls the level below it, while it also gets orders from the level
above it (Shafritz, Ott Jang, 2015). In a school setting, the organization of the staffs inclusive of the
teachers and the board of governors is hierarchical, where, high officer controls lower position holders
(Ballantine Hammack, 2015). For instance, the school principle controls the teaching subordinates,
and the teaching staffs

Voltaire And Martin s Use Of Optimism In Candide
Candide, a novel based on its author s sardonic view of the philosophy rich 18th century Europe,
illustrates unwavering optimism. Ultimately, Voltaire only disputes living in the best of all possible
worlds when one does not go work in the garden, (Voltaire 144). He believes one has to work and put
forth effort in order for everything to be for the best.
Voltaire created Pangloss to be an optimistic and abstract philosopher that epitomizes the idle thinkers
of the time that he deemed utterly ridiculous; he despised philosophers arguing without understanding
the outside world. Pangloss s ceaseless preaching about everything being for the best keeps himself as
well as Candide from participating in the realm around them. For example, rather than saving the
Anabaptist s life, Candide prioritizes Pangloss s outlook on his death s convenience. It is proved, he
used to say, that things cannot be other than they are, for since everything was made for a purpose, it
follows that everything is made for the best purpose, (Voltaire 20). Thus, it is not until they leave the
castle that they learn anything different. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

As CEO if I were to deny the offer, I would be putting a lot of trust into the potential of the company
and how far it could take all of its employees. I would have to trust that the hot streak this company
will continue to a point where the value exceeds the offer from Emulex. From the employee
perspective I would be happy if the offer was denied, simply because the culture instilled within

work to make Giganet a success, the more wealthy they will get. Knowing that momentum is with
them and that an acquisition would only change the dynamic of the job, I assume that employee would

  • 2. Jacksonian Democracy Essay Jacksonian Democracy Jacksonian (Democracy, Society, etc.) is a term used to describe reform during the time of Andrew Jackson s Presidency. Specifically Jacksonian Democracy refers to the general extension of democracy that characterized U.S. politics from 1824 to 1828. Jacksonian Democracy and its support came primarily from the lower classes as a rebellion of sorts apposing the aristocracy. Even though it stressed equality, it was pro slavery and anti Indian (not unlike Andrew Jackson). Also there was change in both the political parties and the social reforms. Jackson was seen as a westerner (even though he was from Tennessee) and a president of the common man. This we can see when he married women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Democrats wanted to limit the role of government in the market and wanted to resolve the tensions among the Northeast, West, and South. Also they wanted to do away with the national bank (Jackson put a lot of money into city and state bands as a result) and sell land at low rates and leave internal improvement basically to the states to deal with. The proposed government of the democrats was one centered in local affairs (one of the most important was slavery). Jackson therefore wanted weak central government within a permanent union. However soon came up the issue of Nullification with South Carolinas attempt to nullify the tariff of 1828. Social reform was underway as well with a number of institutions and social movements being devoted to improving morals of individuals and society in general. Schools started to pop up around the country. Public tax supported schools set up by Whigs in the north. The school systems were centralized at the state level and made attendance mandatory. Temperance was also part of this reform, and this was the most sustained movement in social history. The good old crusade against the use of alcohol that began in 1820. The reason for this it was argued was that alcohol led to violence, personal and social disintegration and was associated with being out of control. This effort was headed up by the middle class (women mostly) that assumed poverty, crime, and every other thing wrong with society was a result ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pros And Cons Of Texting On Writing In the academic article Does Texting Affect Writing? Michaela Cullington weighs the pros and mostly cons on texting hindering your formal writing. A college level paper is to be considered the first step in writing at a scholarly level by experts. In high school we write for the recreation with genres like short stories or poems. In college we are expected to write more for rhetorical analysis or things that don t include your personal point of view. Texting hasn t been around and as trendy as it is now as the average person doesn t start texting until their freshman year of high school. Texting use to be frowned upon as a sort of childish thing but as Cullington states ...and is even becoming popular in the business world because it allows quick messages to be sent without people having to commit to a telephone conversation. Early on Cullington gave us all the contrary implications of texting s effect. Things like Textspeak or abbreviations and acronyms used in student s formal writing are some of the many negative connotations of texting. For example teachers we finding that student were using slang like GTG which is short for the phrase got to go peppered through writing samples. Another disagreement she had was with the student s misuse of or lack thereof punctuation in their writing. Because texting doesn t emphasize the importance of the correct punctuation in writing students overlook the simple things in writing formally. She also feels, like many others, that ... I have acquired many new skills for the classroom, Shadowing for Ms. Bailey class, room 307 was not an easy process but I got through it. Head Start is located on Winston Salem s University s campus in its own secluded area, where students who attend Winston Salem won t bother. Temple University Personal Statement Essay Temple University, Japan Campus Personal Statement for Daniel Zarate A significant moment in my life is the day I had the good fortune of meeting with Temple University, Japan Campus representative, Nathan Crowne at Santa Monica College s College Fair last year. I was immediately connected to Nathan and his enthusiastic introduction of TUJ. TUJ s affordability is most remarkable to me because as a low income student it will support my financial situation and allow for me to pursue my goals to travel the world, become multilingual and become an attorney. Ever since I met with Nathan, TUJ has become my number one choice for transfer. I am writing in hopes that you will favorably consider my application. As a first generation American of Salvadorian and Mexican descent, I am fluent in English and Spanish. Although I am bilingual, Santa Monica College s multinational student body was a culture shock for me because of the many languages I overheard. I decided to learn Japanese because of my pleasant and friendly experiences with the Japanese community. With the assistance of my Japanese friends, I have completed elementary level Japanese 2 from SMC and learned much about the fascinating culture. • 6. Divorce Is A Win And A Loss For Parents And Children Divorce is a Win and a Loss for Parents and Children The divorce rate in today s society according to Barbara Dafoe Whitehead is higher than ever. Although people have a legal right to file for divorce, it is still viewed as an ethical problem. Barbara Dafoe Whitehead writes in The Making of a Divorce Culture , that divorce has become an ethical problem in the United States. In today s society, divorce is viewed as a social norm, and that couples should have a right to file for divorce with no stigma. Although Whitehead argues that divorce is an ethical issue, she also shows reasons why couples should carefully think of filing for divorce before making a final decision such as their children s consideration. Whitehead successfully presents the divorce culture as a very serious ethical problem by giving ideas of why parents are getting divorced, and how their children can be effected by it. Although divorce is viewed as an ethical problem, people still have the right to file for a divorce if it is for their own satisfaction. We never know what happens behind closed doors between a couple, and what types of issues they are going through. Whitehead mentions in her article about how abusive and how demolorizing some relationships can be. In her article, Whitehead states We must assume that divorce is necessary as a remedy for irretrievably broken marriages, especially those that are marred by severe abuse such as chronic infidelity, drug addiction, or physical ... In performing naturalistic observations, a scientist does not make an effort to manipulate or change what is occurring. The purpose of this kind of experimentation is to create a detailed record of the events that happen and of perceptible associations between events, without having any control on the results. Apparently the objective in performing naturalistic observation is to arrange the data collection so that what is going on is comprehensible to the observer, but is not so important or conspicuous that they become the focus of attention or matter to participants. Natural observation is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I also hypothesize that 80% of these participants who are wearing a seat belt will be Caucasian and 75% of them will be African American. To gather my data, I began by preparing a chart. I continued my research by situating myself in front of the University Center at approximately noon on April 28th. . I positioned myself on a bench to the right because that is where cars enter the parking lot. I sat there with my sunglasses on as if I was waiting for someone or just catching some sun. As cars came through the entrance, I would glance over in that direction, with sunglasses on so that it doesn t appear that I looking straight into the car. I recorded in my chart each time a new car entered. When I had observed twenty five drivers, my chart showed that out of these twenty five drivers, twelve were women and thirteen were men. . The observations showed there were distinctions between the number of men wearing seat belts and women wearing them as well as a difference observed how many Caucasian drivers wore seat belts and how many African American drivers did. My results conclude that 91.6% of women wear their seat belts while only 42.6% of males use it. I was also able to conclude that 69.2% of the black participants wore their ... • 8. Summary Of The Canterbury Tales And Miller s Tale In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, there are 29 pilgrims making their way to Canterbury to see the shrine to Thomas A Becket, who was martyred there. They are accompanied by Chaucer, the narrator, and Harry Bailey, the host. The host proposes a storytelling contest to help pass the time. The Host is the sole judge of the contest, and each story is judged on its entertainment and moral factors. The winner will receive a free meal, paid for by all the other pilgrims upon their arrival back at the inn. Each Pilgrim was to tell two stories on the way there, and two on the way back. The pilgrims stories covered a large spectrum of subjects and morals along the way. The wide variety of the stories, in a way, makes it easier for the judge to judge the stories, but also harder. A good example of two very contrasting stories in the contest are the Miller s Tale and the Man at Law s Tale. The Man at Law s Tale would have won the contest. Even though it is not in the same rhyme scheme, has a confusing storyline and some evil characters, it is far more clean, moral, and appropriate than the adultery, lies, and scandal of the Miller s Tale. Before The Miller s Tale, The Host encourages him not to go, because he is too drunk, and will not be able to clearly tell a good story. He tells him, Now hold on, Robin, dear old brother;/ We ll get some better man to tell another;/ You wait a bit. Let s have some common sense. (21 23). My Out Of Class Speaker Critique Assignment For my out of class speaker critique assignment, I chose to go and attend the public lecture on campus by Mr. Jim Davis, the creator of the Garfield the Cat syndicated comics. The event took place in Sursa Hall inside the Music Instruction Building, and it lasted an hour and half long from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. This lecture occurred on Wednesday, February 15th. In his speech, Mr. Davis talked about his youthful years, the initial challenges he faced, the business strategies he used, and the wild adventure he endured throughout his comical Garfield business adventures. The attitudinal makeup of the audience was either neutral or positive, as Davis and his work are most known for being lighthearted and joyful. Mr. Davis undoubtedly considered these elements when he planned his lecture, as a large portion of it was centered around the nostalgic feeling the Garfield comics give to the crowd (C3). Regarding the introduction used during the lecture, I felt that it was more than effective in its explanation of Davis by showing what he is primarily known for, what the audience was about to witness, and by creating a favorable atmosphere for the lecture. To gain the audience s attention, a video demonstrating Mr. Davis s history and accomplishments was played before he began his lecture. Overall, I thought that it was a moderately effective introduction because it reinforced the interest of the audience, displayed the significance Davis has to the illustration business, and presented his credibility as well known illustrator. For example, I thought it was interesting that the administrator jokingly announced Davis as a man too important to be talking a public lecture. On the other hand, however, I also thought that the introduction was somewhat ineffective in that it never overviewed what was going to be talked about in the rest of the lecture (C4). Hamlet faces both internal and external conflicts from the beginning of the play. In the play, the inner and outer conflicts of Hamlet seem to arise from the death of his father, King Hamlet, by his uncle, now King Claudius. Since Hamlets life pervades with conflicts as the confusion he faces essentially becomes the main focus of the play. • 11. Essay on Consciousness As Determined Th Consciousness is understood in a variety of ways. In one belief, a person is conscious when awake, but unconscious when sleeping or comatose. Yet people also do things requiring perception and thought unconsciously even when they are awake. A person can be conscious of their physical surroundings, pain and even a wish or fantasy. In short a creature is conscious if it is aware of itself and that it is a physical and emotional being. Consciousness is a psychological condition defined by the English philosopher John Locke as quot;the perception of what passes in a man s own mind quot;.1 Consciousness is defined and perceived differently in many psychological view points. For instance the earlier views around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They held that consciousness was involved with every working mental state. In this view the mind is transparent to itself that is, it can perceive it s own activity. For three centuries self transparence was the defining feature of the mind. That conception was sprung through the theories of Wilhelm Wundt and Edward Titchener who were advocates off a science of introspection. Early in the 20th century the transparency doctrine came to a setback for three different reasons. The first reason was Sigmund Freud s compelling evidence that some very important mental activity is not only subconscious but firmly resists conscious access through repression. At first Freud s idea of unconscious was treated as self contradictory, but it has since won acceptance as being useful and entirely possible. the second difficulty for the transparency doctrine was that it made the mind impossible for objective science. What is known introspectively to a single person would be utterly private and therefore can not be viewed scientifically. Scientific method demands objectivity and reportable data. The behaviorists John B. Watson and B.F. Skinner and the philosopher Gilbert Ryle rebelled against the idea of an inner sense and denied the very existence of consciousness in the strong sense exhibited by Locke, Descartes and the introspective psychologists.3 Ryle insisted that mind is an illusory concept and that it is ... Team Feedback Seeking Behavior ( Fsb ) Team Feedback seeking Behavior Feedback seeking behavior (FSB) refers to individuals search for evaluative information about their performance, internal processes and other behaviors for attaining valued goals (Crommelinck Anseel, 2013; De Stobbeleir, Ashford, Buyens, 2011). FSB is one of the proactive behaviors whereby individuals preemptively seek for feedback either by directly asking or indirectly observing cues in the environment to infer from them (Ashford, De Stobbeleir, Nujella, 2016). Accordingly, team FSB can be defined as team members collective search for evaluative information about the behavior and performance of individual teammates and the team as a whole (De Stobbeleir et al., 2011; Robison Weldon, 1993). Intrateam feedback involves team members providing information about other teammates performance and/or asking input or guidance about their own performance (Dickinson McIntyre, 1997). Team FSB constitutes goal oriented behavior where team members aim to improve their chances of attaining their valued objectives, such as skill development, improved performance, citizenship behavior, or creativity (Ashford et al., 2016; Crommelinck Anseel, 2013). Thus, contrary to the traditional belief that depicts feedback seeking as a strategy to conform to the requirements of the environment (Parker Collins, 2010), here feedback seeking is used as an individual and/or a team resource that can help individuals and teams to achieve a variety of outcomes ... Why do female DJ s get the short end? Why do many female artists fail to break the top 10 lists of any kind? Or why can t some female DJ s build brands that help them to achieve huge DJ ing success? The lungs are comprised of a million alveoli (bunches of grapes) clinging to each other and emptying into the bronchiolar tree by the tributary network of airways eventually emptying into main bronchi and trachea. There are multiple modes of mechanical ventilation support that provide air to the patient based on pressure, flow and volume. Emigrants who paid their own way to Virginia got fifty acres of land. There would not be mere tenants. Civil authority would control the military. A council of burgesses, representatives chosen by the inhabitants of the colony for their government, would be convened as the House of Burgesses. The governor could veto their actions and the company still had overall control of the venture, but the settlers would have a say in their own government, including the right of the House of Burgesses to introduce money bills. Problems began to strike, like a massacre from the Native Americans where they killed 400 colonists. As hard as the government tried to conceal the problems, the king heard about them. He made virginia a crown colony. The king divided the colony into eight shires. By 1643, there were 15 shires! Most jobs were simply commanded to people. Only the representatives got votes to represent. Each shire would send a vote for a representative to go and work in the House, rather than have it be just rich people. White men that were seventeen years old or older and owned land were able to vote for these representatives. In 1652, Oliver Cromwell forced Jamestown to admit that they had been taken over. In contrast, Professor Higgins, a distinguished and scholarly gentleman who used language as a career, did not speak kindly to others. It could be that this is his method of making sure that she has a stable home with success. Conversely, he could be trying to tap her later for money, as he replies to an aghast Colonel Pickering that he can t afford (148), manners. Higgins, however, admires Doolittle s rhetorical skill, which is praise indeed from the professor. • 36. The Characteristics Of The School Approach By A German... Bureaucracy The principle of bureaucracy was propounded by a German sociologist by the name Max Weber in the 19th century. According to his study, bureaucracy is a formal system of organization and administration, which is designed to ensure effectiveness and efficiency in organizing (Shafritz, Ott Jang, 2015). Weber characterized bureaucracy as having a hierarchy or order of authority with explicit rules, a clear division of labor, and impersonality. He emphasized that everything within a hierarchy exists with an aim to achieve a similar goal. Nevertheless, bureaucracies are found at the federal, state, county levels of government, and even at large companies for proper management and organization. In fact, individuals who work for government agencies from the strategic managers to the subordinate are called bureaucrats. However, most of the schools are bureaucratic as they follow the basic principles of bureaucracy as illustrated below. Schools have formal hierarchical structure, which is the first characteristics of bureaucracy. In a hierarchical structure, each level controls the level below it, while it also gets orders from the level above it (Shafritz, Ott Jang, 2015). In a school setting, the organization of the staffs inclusive of the teachers and the board of governors is hierarchical, where, high officer controls lower position holders (Ballantine Hammack, 2015). For instance, the school principle controls the teaching subordinates, and the teaching staffs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Voltaire And Martin s Use Of Optimism In Candide Candide, a novel based on its author s sardonic view of the philosophy rich 18th century Europe, illustrates unwavering optimism. Ultimately, Voltaire only disputes living in the best of all possible worlds when one does not go work in the garden, (Voltaire 144). He believes one has to work and put forth effort in order for everything to be for the best. Voltaire created Pangloss to be an optimistic and abstract philosopher that epitomizes the idle thinkers of the time that he deemed utterly ridiculous; he despised philosophers arguing without understanding the outside world. Pangloss s ceaseless preaching about everything being for the best keeps himself as well as Candide from participating in the realm around them. For example, rather than saving the Anabaptist s life, Candide prioritizes Pangloss s outlook on his death s convenience. It is proved, he used to say, that things cannot be other than they are, for since everything was made for a purpose, it follows that everything is made for the best purpose, (Voltaire 20).
