Understanding the Basics of Alzheimer
Alzheimer s disease affects the world greatly, and the numbers of victims are growing.
Alzheimer s disease affects everyone affiliated with the sufferer. Alzheimer s disease devastates
the brain and its ability to function. The issue is sensitive, complicated, and is negatively
impacting the world. Alzheimer s disease may not always be fatal, but Alzheimer s disease has
no survivors. It destroys brain cells and causes memory changes, erratic behaviors and loss of
body functions. It slowly and painfully takes away a person s identity, ability to connect with
others, think, eat, talk, walk, and find his or her way home ( What is Alzheimer s ). This tragic
disease impacts over five million people in the United States. Alzheimer s disease touches all,
and it is essential to understand the basics of Alzheimer s. By the numbers, Alzheimer s disease
looks even worse than it may be. The cost of Alzheimer s overwhelms the caregiver and everyone
involved with the patient. The price businesses pay for Alzheimer s it detrimental to their
industry, show by A 2002 study showed that United States businesses lost $36.5 billion that year
because employees missed work or quit and had to be replaced so that they could care for
someone with Alzheimer s disease (Adams 24). The caregivers play vital roles in the lives of the
sufferer, but the business take an even heavier loss. Heath care is necessary for someone with
Alzheimer s disease, however it can get expensive The costs of

Celiac Disease And Gluten Free Products
That may be a snarky way of saying it, but it s true. Scientific studies have concluded that
sensitivity to gluten for people who do not have Celiac disease may be completely
psychological.Especially relevant in a country where 17 million people may unnecessarily believe
that they are gluten sensitive. (Source: A Mayo Clinic survey in 2012, cited in a NY Times
article.)Especially shocking in a planet that spent $10.5 billion last year in glutenfree products.
(Source: Mintel, a market research company, cited in the NY Times article.)Especially important
because a psychological disease can spread as fast as any virus but be more enduring.Especially
lucrative for all the food companies making tons of money off of people like you.

This disease is largely self diagnosed, and studies are starting to show that it is not real. Professor
and scientist Peter Gibson is a hot shot when it comes to studying gluten. He did a study in 2011
that gave a lot of credit to the belief in (non Celiac) gluteny sensitivity. But when he revisited the
study again in 2013, but with much more rigor given that NCGS was becoming a worldwide
phenomenon. These are the measures he took to get valid results:
Subjects were given every single meal for the duration of the study.Any other potential causes of
bad stomach symptoms were removed from the diet. (Think lactose from milk.)And just in case
you did not think he was serious, Peter collected nine days worth of urine and fecal matter. (Now
that s a topic of conversation.) The results were pretty shocking. They concluded that gluten in no
way could have caused any of the negative symptoms that the subjects were suffering
from.NOCEBO might sound like the name of the latest trendy NYC neighborhood, but it s not. It
is a term that means something HARMLESS that causes harmful effects to people who take it.
For the people in this very thorough medical study, gluten was proven to be a NOCEBO. People
who did not take gluten but thought they were eating it began to get the that list of symptoms you
would not want to wish on your enemies. In the study s own terms, We found no evidence of
specific or dose dependent effects of

Employees In A Works Council
Works councils are expensive and put responsibility on the employer to keep up with the costs
that are associated with the works council. (Befort, 2004). Employees who are members of a
works council are still paid their normal wages, even if they are partaking in works council
meetings. Members of works councils are required to partake in additional training and
apprenticeships which the employer is responsible for these costs (Hubler, 2015). It was found that
companies that have a works council have incurred more net costs associated with training than
companies without a works council (Hubler, 2015). Works councils may cause too much employee
power in larger union industries like auto industry and fast food and cause demands for large

Questions
1. (15 marks) The TLV for carbon monoxide is 35ppm. Define the terms TLV and ppm and
calculate them for the following example:
Answer:
TVL = Term for airborne concentration of a substance, below which all workers are believed to be
protected while exposed to it day after day for 8 hour periods.
PPM = Concentration by volume of one part of a gas, or by weight of a liquid or solid, per million
parts of air or liquid.
A mechanic in an automotive repair shop is exposed to the following carbon monoxide levels over
an 8 hour shift.
1. 2 hours @ 34 ppm
2. 5 hours @ 40 ppm
3. 1 hour @ 20 ppm

Have employees rotate half days exposed to the carbon monoxide and half days on non exposure
duties.
Increase monitoring equipment in the facility.
3. Personal Protective Equipment:
Should only be used in the event that engineering and/or administrative controls are not feasible or
practical.
Use of respiratory assist equipment during peak TVL periods.
2. Referring to question 1, how could you use the elements of the hazard control hierarchy to help
clarify the concept of safety controls for an employee? How might an employee participate in
ensuring their own safety? What other worker rights might you include in this type of orientation to
health and safety training regarding psycho social factors and emerging workplace stressors? (10
marks)
Answer:
We could use the elements of the hazard control hierarchy to help clarify the concepts of safety
controls for employees by reviewing the primary concepts of each of the controls and how they
will related to their roles:
Engineering Controls the modification of work processes, equipment, and materials in order to
reduce exposure to hazards.
Administrative Controls management involvement, training of employees, rotation of employees,
environmental sampling, and medical surveillance to protect individuals.
Personal Protective Equipment should only be used when there is no feasible or practical way to

Police Officers Shift Essay
Falling asleep at the wheel isn t the only hazard posed by tired police. Compared with well rested
colleagues, officers who met the criteria for a sleep disorder were more likely to make serious
administrative or safety errors and exhibit uncontrolled anger toward suspects (Harding, 2011).
Sleep problems had a noticeable impact on the officer s work. Eighteen percent of officers who
were screened positive for a sleep disorderreported making serious administrative errors, versus
13% of those without a sleep disorder, while 24% made other errors or safety violations
attributable to fatigue. Also, 34% percent of officers with a sleep disorder reported losing their

The vast majority of police officers work a variety of shift schedules. Traditional police
organizations separate each day or 24 hour period into three tours also called shifts, watches or
platoons (Dempsey Forst, 2005). Some police agencies employ the traditional 8 hour shift, while
others engage a 10 hour shift or a 12 hour shift has been associated with an increased risk of
cardiovascular and sleep disorders, attributable to its propensity for circadian rhythm dysfunction.
Police officers have been shown to exhibit an increased prevalence of fatigue, which may
predispose them to greater frequency of accidents and workplace injuries (Elliot, 2016, p. 13).
Concerns have been raised over extended work hour, specifically the deleterious effects upon health
and sleep quality that may potentiate fatigue and sleepiness. Despite being used synonymously, due
to symptomatic similarities, sleepiness and fatigue have been found to be distinct and will
compromise an individual s performance. The suggested ergonomic and social benefits not

Category 5 cabling can be purchased from Amazon for $31.99 (See references for link to site). It
is difficult to determine how much cabling is needed at this time to come put with a final
estimate. I would also recommend buying cables in different jacket colors to help differentiate
between network devices if possible. This will help to narrow down troubleshooting issues with in
the office. If someone loses connectivity you will be able to find the root of the issue much faster.

External Scans In A School District Environment
According to Norton (2008), a school districts environment is viewed from two perspectives and
can be clearly identified using the acronym SWOT. The S and W represent Strengths and
Weaknesses which are regarded as internal environmental factors and the O and T represent key
factors of the external environmental scan, Opportunities and Threats. An external scan is used to
prevent any revelations that may affect the overall function and plan of the district. An external
scan is defined as the monitoring, evaluating, and disseminating of information from the external
environment to key people within the organization (Norton 2008). External scans are used to
evaluate trends and occurrences of outside factors that could either pose a threat to

Motives And Motives In Hamlet
No, No, the drink, the drink! O my dear Hamlet! The drink, the drink! I am poison d! . (Act 5
Scene 2 line 302 304) This was a line exclaimed by Gertrude, the mother Hamlet before she
deceased in the ballroom of the castle. Death is a common attribute to appear in Hamlet because
throughout the whole play characters are continuing to pass due to quite violent reasons such as
murder or suicide. After a character passes it is those left in the play that have to cope and react. A
motive is a reason for doing something, especially one that is hidden or not obvious. This causes
many different motives and actions for each individual character. Looking into the play Hamlet
written by William Shakespeare, three characters stand out that have lost their father:
Fortinbras, Laertes, and Hamlet. All three of these men have reacted differently to their loss
based on their relationships and motives. This drives their emotions and actions throughout the
play and ultimately decides the fate of many individuals. Since the beginning of the play straight
from act one Fortinbras has never had a father as he was murdered by King Hamlet. This
although sends a spike of ambition and motivation into Young Fortinbras. He now has the
motive to take over land as it is his duty to avenge his father s death. Since one of Fortinbras
uncles told him he could not takeover Denmark because it was rightfully lost and King Hamlet
still lived. This motive is so strong that it creates actions such as trying to conquer Poland
instead. By doing this aswell it sends rumors and fear into Denmark. Those forsaid lands, so by
his father lost and this I take it is the main motive of our preparations. Horatio (Act one scene one
line 103 104) Fortinbras is filled with aggression and passion to fulfill his father s death with
victory and prosperity. The motive of Fortinbras is to ensure that he fills his duty as son to the king
by continuing to run the country while winning battles to prove that the country is not weak. The
country is still strong and ready to fight for what had been taken from them. While in Poland
although they did not conquer a whole bunch and had paid more in what it was worth this does not
stop this motive from continuing to

Comparing Memory Test Performance
The author of the following excerpt concluded that the study was statistically significant. The
hypothetical research article compared memory test performance between two groups of
participants: those who consumed a caffeinated beverage before the test and those who consumed a
non caffeinated beverage:
An independent samples t test was conducted to examine the difference between experimental
conditions on test performance. The results indicated a significant difference between participants
who consumed the caffeinated beverage and participants who did not, with participants in the
caffeinated group (M = 7.64, SD = 2.41) performing worse than participants in the non caffeinated
group (M = 9.81, SD = 3.16), t (97) = 2.14, p .05.
It tells that the t statistic with 97 degrees of freedom was 2.14, and the corresponding p value was
less than .05, specifically around 0.035. Therefore, it is appropriate to conclude the research study
was statistically significant.
But what does a statistically significant result really mean?
The main purpose of the most researchers in conducting a research study is to achieve a statistically
significant result. When we say statistically significant, it means that the result in a research study
was not attributed to chance. In addition, it also means ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
P value represents a decimal between 1.0 to below .01. Unfortunately, the level of commonly
accepted p value is 0.05. The level of frequency of P 0.05 means that there is one in twenty chance
that the whole study is just accidental. In other words, that there is one in twenty chance that a
result may be positive in spite of having no actual relationship. This value is an estimate of the
probability that the result has occurred by statistical accident. Thus, a small value of P represents a
high level of statistical significance and vice

Questions The Necessity Of Free Will And Its Compatibility...
The fatalism framework assumes that human action is necessitated and therefore, it negates free
will. Fatalism questions the necessity of free will and its compatibility with divine foreknowledge.
Much of medieval philosophy returns to this question, attempting to reconcile these two seemingly
conflicting truths. The Law of Non Contradiction is one of logic s most fundamental ideas. It
claims that something can not be both true and not true. Under this law, no affirming statement can
negate itself. For example, an object cannot be both square and circular. They cannot exist within
the same context and so, a square circle is a contradiction. In Chapter 9 of De Interpretatione,
Aristotle discusses the problem of whether a sea battle... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whichever is true, is true in the past. So, assuming there will be a sea battle tomorrow, it has
always been true that there will be a sea battle tomorrow. And because the past in unalterable, it
implies that human action has no ability to make a sea battle not happen tomorrow. Therefore, it is
necessarily true that there will be a sea battle tomorrow. Augustine says, in Free Choice of the Will,
that divine foreknowledge creates a necessity that is problematic for free will:
God has divine foreknowledge of everything in the future; and we sin by the will, not by
necessity? For, you say, if God foreknows that someone is going to sin, then it is necessary that he
sin. But if it is necessary, the will has no choice about whether to sin; there is an inescapable and
fixed necessity.
This brings up a significant issue. This argument claims that actions are determined rather than
open to human action. If actions occur by necessity, human beings should not be blamed for their
actions. This suggests that God is responsible for the actions of man. This also requires that God
is responsible for evil. However, he is not the cause of evil. God gives man the ability to will but
does not necessitate what he wills. However, humans are still responsible for what they will
because the thing that is willed is not of necessity. For example, Augustine in his Confessions, tells
the story when he stole

The Debate Between Creation And Evolution
The debate between creation and evolution has been around for a long time. For much of it, it has
presented a choice between the two. Some claim that you either believe in God or evolution, not
both. Others, that you have to choose young earth creationism simply because theistic evolution is
not a viable option. Still more present young earth creationismas a naive understanding of both the
Bible and science. However, since each position has evidence in support of it and against it, it is in
no way true that any of them present us with an undeniable position of definite accuracy.
Furthermore, the idea that there is only a choice between creation and evolution is false. Indeed,
there are more positions than even creationism and theistic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is for this reason that the debate is also not between science and Christianity. Each advocate for
each position is attempting to reconcile the apparent differences between science and Christianity. It
is simply the case that they each take a different approach and give different amounts of authority to
science and a literal interpretation of Genesis.
The first position is that of young earth creationism. Additionally, this is what most people mean
when referring to creationism. This is primarily due to the fact that the creationists visible in the
public eye during the creation evolution debate were most likely to hold young earth creationist
views. Additionally, the terms recent earth or recent creation have been used to refer to this same
position. These terms clearly define their position as one in which the creation of the world
occurred somewhat recently, that is, the world is young. However, it obviously doesn t provide us
with much information beyond that. To begin with, how young is the world? In order to help
answer this and other questions concerning young earth creationism, biologist and philosopher of
science Paul Nelson and philosopher John Mark Reynolds, both fellows of the Center for Science
and Culture under the Discovery Institute, present with their viewpoint

U.s. Government s Government

that s no fair for the people.
The public trust in government has declined over the years, and now the people think they can do
little to influence the government actions. According to the book We the people by Benjamin
Ginsberg, in 2013 only 19 percent of americans reported trusting the government with their
decisions in Washington. On the contrary, compare to 1960s and 1970s americans had a lot of more
respect and trust for the american government due to the fact that the government did what was best
for the people. But now, the trust that his great nation once had has been declining in a

Rhetorical Analysis Of Volkswagen
Over 17 million cars and trucks are sold around the world every year. Amongst the plethora of car
companies aiming to convince shoppers that their car is paramount, marketing teams ought to go
the extra mile. By developing a persuading advertisement, companies are more likely to sell their
products. On February 6, 2011, Volkswagenaired a Superbowl commercial for the first time in over
ten years. This commercial would be one that awakens the inner child of millions. By employing
pathos, ethos, and logos rhetorictechniques, Volkswagen is able to appeal to consumers in order to
sell their new car.
In the commercial, a young boy dressed as Darth Vaderfrom the Star Wars films struggles to use
the force on objects throughout his house. After ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By displaying the innocence of the boy, it might help families who watch the commercial relate
to their own children. Secondly, we see the mother in the commercial who appears slightly
irritated with her son since he s been trying all day. This character choice might help other parents
relate to a situation where they ve gotten annoyed when their child gets too involved with
pretending to do something. Finally, we see the father at the end of the commercial who wants to
assist his son when pretending to be Darth Vader. By showing a father who helps his son believe
he was successful with using the force, it demonstrates a loving and caring relationship. This might
make fathers who watch the commercial want to go out and buy the car to be that loving and
caring dad. The advertisement s stylistic choice is effective due to how they tell a story and use
supportive rhetorical techniques. First, Volkswagen does this by pulling people in with the
rhetorical technique of pathos. By creating a scenario within the advertisement which consumers
can relate to, the viewer tends to feel a sense of familiarity and emotional attachment. The scene in
the commercial that acts as the strong emotional trigger is the final scene where the young boy
uses the force on the car. Whether it s a parent watching the commercial or someone thinking back
to their own childhood, there s a way they can relate to it. For parent s watching the commercial,
they might imagine a

The Play “A Midsummer Night’S Dream” By William
Shakespeare
The play A Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare offers a wonderful contrast in
human mentality. Shakespeare provides insight into man s conflict with the rational versus
emotional characteristics of human behavior. Athens represents the logical side, with its
flourishing government and society. The fairy woods represents the wilder, irrational side where
nothing seems to follow any sort of structure. The character of Bottom the weaver is a direct
reflection of these two worlds. He brings the rational and irrational elements of the play together in
several ways. Nick Bottom is indeed one of Shakespeare s most memorable creations. He is first
introduced during the casting of Pyramus and Thisbe (1.2.253). Bottom is... Show more content on

Here he gives us insight into his own personality and almost seems to mock those in love. When
he says let the audience look to their eyes (1.2.20), he is directly touching on one of the themes
in the play: the use of one s eyes in love, which according to Bottom means that people do not use
their heads when in love and that it is an emotion merely based on superficialities. Whatever the
case may be, it is obvious that he is much more of a lover than a tyrant. Bottom proceeds to show
however, that one can love and be a tyrant at the same time. When he is transformed into the ass
and shares Titania s bower, it shows his marvelous adaptability to adapt immediately to whatever
life offers him. His energetic love of life, good nature and eager innocence obtains him this
entrance into the other world so different from his own. Perhaps he is not completely incapable
of feeling or understanding love. Starting from his position as a rock bottom realist, he can, with
the same vigor and joy he brings to whatever he does, respond to this power and believe. The
fantastically transformed Bottom, the least likely candidate for the position in the world before
his transformation, becomes a participator in the fairy world in the incredible role of being
Titania s lover. But we see thus that it was possible after all. He can, in sum, be both a lover and a
tyrant yet he knows that being in

The main objective of this paper is to examine the effects of HIV/AIDS scourge on labour force
productivity of Adamawa state households. 2. Problem Statement The health status of the people
in any country is a critical element in the growth of its economy as well as an important factor in
the overall quality of life. AIDS tend to selectively affect women, youths, which are the vulnerable
groups; it will influence a wide range of social and economic factors. In Adamawa State,
agriculture is the dominant industry; high rate of infection could lead to the stagnation of the
industry. Recent studies have revealed that HIV/AIDS prevalence among women and youths is
increasingly worrisome. The target is the most productive group of the population (15 49 groups).
3. Literature Review and Conceptual Framework Until the early 1990 s, the empirical economic
growth literature focused exclusively on the role of capital and labour (The later often augmented
by schooling and technological change, but hardly ever on health as a key element of human
capital (Baro, 1991). Even where a relationship has been found between indicators of health and
income per capita, it has either been discounted or thought to be an indication of the impact of

Drug Testing And The Workplace
In many years, companies adopted many programs to monitor substance abuse in the workplace.
The implementation of drug testing by companies grew in recent years. American workers have
seen a dramatic increase in the use of drug testing in the previous years. Drug testing is
implemented to assure safe workplaces for American workers. Drug testing can reduce the
company s health care and insurance costs. Even though drug testing has become common in
the workplace, there is little research that exists regarding this matter. Overall, drug testing
affects the decisions of workers by adopting a zero tolerance policy. Experienced users try to
beat these tests by using drug to cancel the tracking of the drug itself. These workers attempt to
avoid the detection of drug use for long periods (Borack, 1995). Literature implies that employee
drug use in the workplace may create high costs to firms in the form of lower productivity,
increased absences, and an increase in workplace accidents. As a response to these costs,
employers have implemented a variety of policies and programs to decrease employee drug use.
Educational programs and standards such as Zero Tolerance policies, employers have turned to
drug testing programs more in the past decades. About 46 percent of American workers report that
their employer conducts drug testing, although other sources indicate that 90 percent of Fortune
200 companies use some type of drug testing (Flynn 1999). The factor behind workplace drug

Kumon Educational Institute

Upon careful review and analysis of the current situation of the Kumon Institute USA it is clear
that there are several problems that should be addressed in order for Kumon Institute to succeed
in the US market. Although Kumon has been in existence in the US for 10 years now, you have
still not implemented a corporate global strategy which will allow for success in the US. You re
currently operating in the same manner as is the Japanese operations, and as a result the same
business level strategy that worked in Japan will not provide the same results in the US. Any

To date Kumon has operated with the program unchanged from the Japanese business model and
this is clearly not conducive to the US educational system. The US educational system is a much
more rewards based system used to motivate the students to work and to improve the students self
discipline therefore, if Kumon is indeed determined to grow market share outside of the Asian
American culture it will be important to understand what works to motivate and encourage self
discipline here in the US. In addition, the change to family culture necessary for the Kumon
program s success should also be considered with the consultant as this is an area where
commitment is hard to maintain due to different lifestyles, whereby both parents often work long
hours outside the home and will have a difficult time committing to the demands placed on them by
the Kumon program. Depending on the direction determined, for example will Kumon focus on
just the Asian population, or will they conduct a full national campaign. So, now in place is a
vision and strategy, so in order to make this vision reality Kumon must implement the strategy
through the use of marketing and advertising campaign that will build awareness of Kumon, appeal
to it s target consumer. In addition, they should focus on gaining the respect of local teachers so
that they can assist in word of mouth campaign. With that in mind, I

A Room With A View Literary Merit Essay
A Room With a View Literary Merit I as a reader enjoy reading, however I do not do it as often as
I would like. I always have trouble starting books, I would say that the first five to chapters are
the hardest to get through. I admire how with reading you are able to make your own depiction
of what s happening, instead of seeing what others envisioned. To me a great book must have
twists and turns to keep me interested. I love being able to get to know the characters, feeling as
if they are apart of your own life, being able to see them as almost a friend in your own life.
Taking their life lessons and putting them to use in your own. I like more romantici books
where they have to get over many obstacles to obtain their great love. I also enjoy reading about
a character who is able to turn their troubles around and become better than they once were. As a
little girl I was always read to; I wish that I read more on my own when I was younger. I think it
would have helped me get over the whole trouble starting a book phase. I do see myself growing
though. I praise older romantic/ coming of age books with their complexity, symbolism, and
messages, they have a certain personality that I adore reading. Finding books like these make me
enjoy reading a lot more than I did, say six years ago. Literary merit to me would be described as
the ability to read a book from the age of 15 to 90 and still enjoy it (you may change meaning with

Exploring The Scars Of Centuries Essay
Yael Pineda
History M151C
Professor E. Avila
8 June 2015
Exploring the Scars of Centuries Human slavery is a phenomenon that has been present since the
times of the Romans and the Greeks. As a common misconception, societies, especially America s
tend to believe that slavery was always black. Throughout a period of enslavement, human beings
have again and again treated slavery and racial hierarchy as an act of the norm embedded in human
behavior, which they use in order to make a clear distinction between them and us to justify such
atrocious and immortal acts. With careful analysis of premature human enslavement, whiteness as
beauty, the west and the rest, disparities between European ethnic groups, the study of
anthropology, white slavery, linguistic movements, popular culture and different political
institutions supported by America s governing law, the creation of the white raceis drawn. With
emphasis on the role played by Irish and Black Americans, the support of structural forces and
cultural practices taken from historical examples drawn from the literary works of Harris, Painter,
Roediger and Katznelson, slavery misconceptions, the distinction between races, the formation of
the white race and its benefits and the homogeneity between black and slavery become apparent.
Taking the broader history of human enslavement into account, slavery seen during the time of the
Greeks and the Romans shows an enormous misconception of slavery: slavery was not

Servant Leader As A Servant
Definition:
Most people define a servant leader as being a servant first. (Crippen, 2004; Grisaffe, VanMeter,
Chonko, 2016; Gyeongchun, 2014; Jit, Sharma, Kawatra, 2016; Parris Peachey, 2013; Russell
Stone, 2002; Spears, 2004; Spiro, 2010; Waterman, 2011; Wilson, 1998; Wong Page, 2003).
Servant leaders are motivated by the need to serve the followers (Blanchard, 2001; Chanhoo,
Kwangseo, Seung Wan, 2015; Crippen, 2004; Grisaffe, VanMeter, Chonko, 2016; Gyeongchun,
2014; Jit, Sharma, Kawatra, 2016; Liden et al., 2014; Parris Peachey, 2013; Rubio Sanchez, Bosco,

It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve. Then conscious choice brings one to
aspire to lead. (Blanchard, 2001; Chanhoo, Kwangseo, Seung Wan, 2015; Crippen, 2004; Grisaffe,
VanMeter, Chonko, 2016; Gyeongchun, 2014; Jit, Sharma, Kawatra, 2016; Liden et al., 2014;
Parris Peachey, 2013; Rubio Sanchez, Bosco, Melchar, 2013; Russell Stone, 2002; Spears, 2004;
Wilson, 1998).
Place emphasis on the development of followers rather than their own gratification (Jit, Sharma,
Kawatra, 2016; Liden et al., 2014; Parris Peachey, 2013; Rubio Sanchez, Bosco, Melchar, 2013;
Wong Page, 2003).
Furthermore, servant leaders feel a moral responsibility to bring success to the organization, the
subordinates, the customers and other stakeholders (Jit, Sharma, Kawatra, 2016; Rubio Sanchez,
Bosco, Melchar, 2013; Spears, 2004; Spiro, 2010; Waterman, 2011).
Overall, Parris and Peachy clearly exemplify that servant leaders are distinguished by both their
primary motivation to serve (what they do) and their self construction (who they are), and from
this conscious choice of doing and being they aspire to lead (Parris Peachey, 2013, p. 379).

To me this is like a very wicked Bible and History book all in one. Just like the Christian Bible it

Personal Narrative Essay On Gymnastics
My brain goes silent. I forget my problems, my issues, my struggles, and everything that makes me

and every moment, gymnastics makes me feel alive.
Ever since I was six, I have been doing gymnastics. I started when I said to my mother I want to
do that with my high pitched little kid voice as I watched the gymnasts fly around the bar. My

US Australian relations are underpinned by the ANZUS treaty, finalised in 1951. The relationship
is underpinned by shared values, culture, social bonds and common strategic interests. However, the
partnership has become a problem within Australian foreign policy for a variety of reasons.
Firstly, there is concern regarding the responsibilities we have placed upon ourselves as an Ally.
Although we are not obligated to join the US in war, we are consistently following them into
overseas conflicts that we otherwise have no interest in. As it currently stands, Australiahas fought
in numerous wars alongside the United States in the years since the conception of the ANZUS
treaty, and we are yet to win one. Australia appears to be under the impression that we are under
the military protection of the US, and this is often stated as a reason for maintaining close ties
with the global power. This is simply not the case; our partnership does not force either party to
come to the aid of the other. The United States will not come to our defence in the case of a conflict
unless it is within their own interests.
Secondly, our alliance with the US has placed a

What Are The Similarities Between America And Usa
In a world with numerous countries and adversities, every country has its different appeal.
Sometimes we find ourselves comparing their similarities and differences, like there topography,
culture, language, and so on. In this essay, based on my experiences and research, I am going to
compare Jamaica and U.S. Although both countries are compelling in different ways, they hold
more similarities than we even imagine. Jamaica and U.S are located in two different geographical
settings. The U.S is a country which consists of 50 states covering North America, and surrounded
by oceans on all sides. It s the fourth largest country in the world with a population of
approximately 318.9 million people. One the other hand, Jamaica is an island which is situated in

A Modern Day Form Of Slavery Essay
Literature Review
While DMST is considered to be a modern day form of slavery, history has recorded that the sexual
exploitation of children has been practiced in America since its colonization. While slavery was
abolished in the 19th century, it did not dissipate completely and it wasn t until the beginning of the
20th century that the issue of child sex trafficking began to receive significant attention. This was in
part due to the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) that was passed in 2000 which
protected victims of trafficking by enhancing criminal penalties under the law as well as made
benefits and services to victims available (TVPA, 2000). Since the act s establishment, the TVPA
has been amended 4 times in order to grow with the changing attitudes, policies, and approaches to
best combat human trafficking (DeCeoursty, 2016). The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001
refueled the United States dedication to sex trafficking by declaring DMST as a threat to national
security which transformed the way human trafficking should be approached (DeCeoursty, 2016).
The post 911 environment embraced a crime control approach by focusing more on combating
organized crime activity instead of the issue of human rights and the recognition of victimization
(DeCeoursty, 2016). However, this crime control approach to human trafficking failed to address
the underlying structural problems, which is the high demand for the sex trafficking industry. Over
time, the Department of

Stereotyping Stereotypes
When we use stereotypes, we are criticizing someone, for example, when we say all police
officers are corrupt, all men who aren t into sports are gay or all blonde women are dumb.
Stereotyping is a result of incompetence on distorted information accepted as a fact without
question. A stereotype is simply a widely held belief that an individual is a member of a certain
group based upon characteristics. Stereotyping can be positive, for example, all Blacks are good
at sports, all Asians are good at math or French people are romantic. Stereotypes can also help
identify how to interact with each other, for example Canadians are exceptionally polite. Either
way stereotyping is morally wrong and judgmental. If your group is positively stereotyped in an
area, then you can endure a lot more frustration and difficultly before you assume or infer that you
don t belong in that domain (Steele, 2010). This paper will focus on the origin of stereotyping, how
stereotypes affect judgement and behavior and will explore profiling versus stereotyping.
Stereotyping is defined as an oversimplified, usually pejorative, attitude people hold toward those
outside one s own experience who are different. They are a result of incomplete or distorted
information accepted as fact without question. A stereotypeis simply a widely held belief that an
individual is a member of a certain group based on characteristics. Due to the process of
overgeneralization within social perception, stereotyping leads to a great deal of inaccuracy in
social perception (Chandler, n.d.). ##My stance is## Stereotyping is always morally wrong and
judgmental. How you reach your opinion of others makes it morally wrong, when you encounter
someone for the first time you should not have a prejudged notion of that person, first impressions
should always start from zero. The most ethical place to begin is to acknowledge that you have
biases and stereotypes and once your interaction starts then place them accordingly. Stereotyping is
a mental shortcut and this isn t always negative although we should be aware that we all harmlessly
do it and must always be conscious of it.
As humans, we want to associate quickly for instance, tiger, danger, don t

Anabolic Steroids And Its Effects On The Brain
Brief History Anabolic steroids are directly related to steroids, and both have similar effects,
however anabolic steroids intensify protein production in cells, leading to enlarged muscles, rather
steroids contain various hormones including testosterone. Both, however exert the chemical
dopamine into the blood stream, negatively effecting the brain driving addiction and abuse. The
steps and action foreshadowing steroids can be traced back to 1849, when a German scientist
named Arnold Adolph Berthold conducted tests and experiments on Cockerels, concluding that
their male testicles contain the necessary factors that make them male. This revelation may not
attribute to the direct creation of anabolic steroids, however it casts a light towards
understanding anabolic steroids and must not be dismissed. With the cooperation of Berthold s
discovery, a German chemist Adolf Butenandt was able to purify and extract testosterone from
urine. With the collaboration of a fellow German chemist Leopold Ruziicka, they were able to
create a synthetic form of testosterone safe for human use in 1935. Their discovery received
international acclaim and they were rewarded the 1939 Nobel Prize for their work in chemistry.
The initial intent of steroids was to help treat men who had growth and development deficiencies.
When World War II broke out steroids were used to help malnourished soldiers gain weight and
increase performance. After the war, steroids were being extensively abused by

Health Care Industry Paper Lucionda Berry HCS/449 May 14, 2013 Dr. Leslie Freeman
Introduction In today s society, healthcare and the issues surrounding the topic has went through
some major changes within the last decade. Some of these changes in my opinion were decent and

Many smaller communities in the United States are already utilizing telemedicine to great
advantage (Burchill, 2010).Although telemedicine is a great way to deliver quality healthcare
in a timely fashion, there is also a downside to the procedure as well. Telemedicine will in some
way hinder the face to face communication between the doctor and patient that is vital in reducing
errors. Most patients have a better understanding of what is expected of them when it is
communicated clearly and effectively by their physician. Communication is the process of
understanding and having meaning (Du Pre, 2005.) and it is also the process of relaying
information between people by the use of words, letters, symbols, or body language (Sallee
Forrest, 2005,). In my opinion I feel that telemedicine will decrease the moral as far as the Dr. and
Patients are concerned. Although telemedicine may decrease a portion of the healthcare cost by
less visits to the doctor, it will lose the value and importance of actually sitting down and talking
with your doctor and receiving that one on one face to face time. Most patients are not even in
tuned with technology and this can result in many errors and communication issues. What role do
you plan to have in the industry? I think once I have entered the healthcare industry I will play a
vital role in implementing fair but tough decision making when it comes to delivering efficient,
friendly, quality healthcare. I feel that I

Witches In Macbeth Essay
Hi, I m Maddy Foster and this is another episode of Which Witch is Which? Today we re going to
talk about the witches, also known as the weГЇrd sisters, in Macbeth.
Macbeth is Shakespeare s shortest play, but arguably his darkest and most powerful creation. King
James I commissioned Shakespeare to write this play for his amusement sometime around 1606. It
deals with an array of themes including revenge, guilt, violence, insanity and also the supernatural.
Shakespeare based Macbeth mainly on an Elizabethan report of Scotland s history called Holinshed
s Chronicles , written by popular a historian at the time pictured here, but also referred to a few
other sources. Macbeth features an interesting hybrid cast between the natural and supernatural. ...

In fact, the witches bear a striking and obviously intentional resemblance to the fates, female
characters who weave the fabric of human lives and then cut the threads to end them. They speak
in almost chant like rhyme with paradox and equivocation, Fair is foul and foul is fair (Act 1,
Scene 1, Lines 11 12) and Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble (Act 4,
Scene 1, Lines 10 11).
At the time Macbeth was written, necromancy was feared and witches had developed into a
serious and ever present social concern. Bear in mind that those accused of witchcraft 90% of the
time were just old, poor, unprotected, single or pet owning women. Nonetheless, witches were
perceived as evil, sub human servants of the devil. Shakespeare therefore introduced the witches
knowing that they would grip an audience, as anything to do with witchcraft would create fear. In
fact, Macbeth is the 17th century s equivalent to a modern day horror

Needless Animal Experimentation is Wrong
If penicillin had been tested on guinea pigs, it might never have reached the public. It is lethal to
guinea pigs, deactivates the blood system of rabbits and is deadly to cats ( Bio Medical Research
). Scientists are pushing for more experiments regardless of the cost to the animal s life. One
expense is the involvement of killing animals in the pursuit of a pine scented air freshener
(Vergoth,p21).
Animals suffering in experimentation labs are in just and cruel to animals. It is wrong to harm an
innocent animal of any wrong doing, when the animal doesn t know right from wrong. It is argued
that people have an obligation to animals, so that we can protect their welfare.

More than five billion dollars of federal tax revenue are spent annually on animal research ( Bio
Medical Research ). With that money there could be drug rehabilitation programs, nutrition
counseling for the disadvantaged, or even improving water and air quality; but instead animals get
experimented on. Animals, like the rest of nature, were understood not have any sort of value,
except to bring enjoyment to lives. Animal life has some value (Frey, p27).
Scientists test products on animals to see if they are safe, or if any side effects may occur. Many
different companies use tests on animals, such as: the Draize Test and the LD 50, or Lethal Dose
50 Percent.
The Draize Test is used to measure the harmfulness of chemicals found in household products and
cosmetics, by observing the damage they cause to the eyes and skin of animals ( Product Testing ).
Albino rabbits are used for the eye irritancy of a solution. The rabbits suffer extreme pain,
mutilation and blindness. Often the rabbits eyes are held open with metal clips. The damage to
their eyes are irreparable and leave the eyes ulcerated and bleeding. At the end of the test, the
animals are killed to see what the internal effects were ( Product Testing ).
The Lethal Dose 50 Test kills half of the test group. This test was developed in the 1920 s, and is
used to measure the acute toxicity of certain ingredients. This test uses 200 animals or more, and

Cystic Fibrosis Analysis
To understand the effects that Cystic Fibrosis has, it is important to discuss CFTR synthesis and
trafficking. Mutations in the CFTR results in protein misfolding, causing a defect in cellular
processing and trafficking that targets the protein for degradation and reduces the quantity of CFTR
at the cellsurface [56]. In order for the CFTR to function correctly, then it must be synthesized,
folded, and transported to the apical membrane of the cell without problem. The CFTR passes
through quality control systems to get rid of misfolded proteins that would not function properly
or that could become damaged [16]. It is apparent that only 33% of CFTR folds correctly and is
allowed to leave the endoplasmic reticulum[8]. The nucleus is the site... Show more content on

One system detects defects in the cytosolic parts of the CFTR while the other detects defects
within the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. It is apparent that ubiquitylating proteins work
with specific factors in order to detect misfolding. For example, Hsp70 detects mutations in the
cytosolic regions of the CFTR. It is suspected that Hsp70 keeps the CFTR soluble until the E3
ligase CHIP binds with it. The complex that forms between these two redirects the CFTR to the
degradation pathway. Derlin 1 is involved with detecting defects in the endoplasmic reticulum
membrane and is involved in the retro translocation of CFTR from the endoplasmic reticulum so
that it can be send to the proteasome for degradation [20]. If the CFTR protein is folded correctly
within the endoplasmic reticulum, then it is sent to the Golgi apparatus. The coat protein
complex II (COPII), which is found within the ER membrane, helps to maintain the correct CFTR
structure and location, conformation, and protein protein interactions as this occurs. Final
processing for the CFTR is carried out within the Golgi, as the CFTR replaces a mannose
enriched side chain with a mature complex oligosaccharide side chain. After this is completed, the
CFTR is moved to the apical membrane where it has a half life of 12 to 24 hours. If a CFTR is
functioning poorly within the membrane, then it can be recognized by Hsc70 and then

Consequences Of The Thirty Years War
The Thirty Years War marked the end of Reformation and was the last major religious war in
Europe. Whilst it started as a religious war between the Catholic Habsburg leader and the
Protestant Bohemians in the Holy Roman Empire, during its progress it became a European war,
where most of the dominant powers got involved. Soon the religious focus shifted and the war
became more about power, influence and territories. The consequences of the war and the Treaty of
Westphalia were long lasting and complex on Europe s international relations.
In order to understand not just the progress of the war, but also the consequences, it is necessary to
consider, what has led up to the breakout of the war. The most uniting power at the time was not
language, but religion, which was conflicting in the Holy Roman Empire. After the Peace of
Augsburg in 1555, cuius regno, eius religio was established. Meaning that the ruler can decide the
religion of the people under his ruling, as either Catholic or Lutheran, but not Calvinist. Despite,
Calvinism spread, including to the Palatinate state, which was among the seven states, which
named the Holy Roman emperor. Additionally he created the Protestant Union, which pursued
support from the French, Dutch and English. Moreover, international tension was rising. Habsburg
Spain was planning to fight against the Dutch, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Scientific studies have concluded that sensitivity to gluten for people who do not have Celiac disease may be completely psychological.Especially relevant in a country where 17 million people may unnecessarily believe that they are gluten sensitive. (Source: A Mayo Clinic survey in 2012, cited in a NY Times article.)Especially shocking in a planet that spent $10.5 billion last year in glutenfree products. (Source: Mintel, a market research company, cited in the NY Times article.)Especially important because a psychological disease can spread as fast as any virus but be more enduring.Especially lucrative for all the food companies making tons of money off of people like you. The same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This disease is largely self diagnosed, and studies are starting to show that it is not real. Professor and scientist Peter Gibson is a hot shot when it comes to studying gluten. He did a study in 2011 that gave a lot of credit to the belief in (non Celiac) gluteny sensitivity. But when he revisited the study again in 2013, but with much more rigor given that NCGS was becoming a worldwide phenomenon. These are the measures he took to get valid results: Subjects were given every single meal for the duration of the study.Any other potential causes of bad stomach symptoms were removed from the diet. (Think lactose from milk.)And just in case you did not think he was serious, Peter collected nine days worth of urine and fecal matter. (Now that s a topic of conversation.) The results were pretty shocking. They concluded that gluten in no way could have caused any of the negative symptoms that the subjects were suffering from.NOCEBO might sound like the name of the latest trendy NYC neighborhood, but it s not. It is a term that means something HARMLESS that causes harmful effects to people who take it. For the people in this very thorough medical study, gluten was proven to be a NOCEBO. Employees who are members of a works council are still paid their normal wages, even if they are partaking in works council meetings. Members of works councils are required to partake in additional training and apprenticeships which the employer is responsible for these costs (Hubler, 2015). It was found that companies that have a works council have incurred more net costs associated with training than companies without a works council (Hubler, 2015). Compared with well rested colleagues, officers who met the criteria for a sleep disorder were more likely to make serious administrative or safety errors and exhibit uncontrolled anger toward suspects (Harding, 2011). Sleep problems had a noticeable impact on the officer s work. Eighteen percent of officers who were screened positive for a sleep disorderreported making serious administrative errors, versus 13% of those without a sleep disorder, while 24% made other errors or safety violations attributable to fatigue. • 10. Motives And Motives In Hamlet No, No, the drink, the drink! O my dear Hamlet! The drink, the drink! I am poison d! . (Act 5 Scene 2 line 302 304) This was a line exclaimed by Gertrude, the mother Hamlet before she deceased in the ballroom of the castle. Death is a common attribute to appear in Hamlet because throughout the whole play characters are continuing to pass due to quite violent reasons such as murder or suicide. After a character passes it is those left in the play that have to cope and react. A motive is a reason for doing something, especially one that is hidden or not obvious. This causes many different motives and actions for each individual character. Looking into the play Hamlet written by William Shakespeare, three characters stand out that have lost their father: Fortinbras, Laertes, and Hamlet. All three of these men have reacted differently to their loss based on their relationships and motives. This drives their emotions and actions throughout the play and ultimately decides the fate of many individuals. Since the beginning of the play straight from act one Fortinbras has never had a father as he was murdered by King Hamlet. This although sends a spike of ambition and motivation into Young Fortinbras. He now has the motive to take over land as it is his duty to avenge his father s death. Since one of Fortinbras uncles told him he could not takeover Denmark because it was rightfully lost and King Hamlet still lived. This motive is so strong that it creates actions such as trying to conquer Poland instead. By doing this aswell it sends rumors and fear into Denmark. Those forsaid lands, so by his father lost and this I take it is the main motive of our preparations. Horatio (Act one scene one line 103 104) Fortinbras is filled with aggression and passion to fulfill his father s death with victory and prosperity. The motive of Fortinbras is to ensure that he fills his duty as son to the king by continuing to run the country while winning battles to prove that the country is not weak. The hypothetical research article compared memory test performance between two groups of participants: those who consumed a caffeinated beverage before the test and those who consumed a non caffeinated beverage: An independent samples t test was conducted to examine the difference between experimental conditions on test performance. The results indicated a significant difference between participants who consumed the caffeinated beverage and participants who did not, with participants in the caffeinated group (M = 7.64, SD = 2.41) performing worse than participants in the non caffeinated group (M = 9.81, SD = 3.16), t (97) = 2.14, p .05. It tells that the t statistic with 97 degrees of freedom was 2.14, and the corresponding p value was less than .05, specifically around 0.035. Therefore, it is appropriate to conclude the research study was statistically significant. But what does a statistically significant result really mean? Even at such speed, probably with more reason, her eyes were watchful, alert. The low plants with the wide leaves and blue spots were harmless and edible, a brush with the tall red sprigs of the reeds in humid areas caused a fever. In the daylight such things were easy to distinguish even in a hurry, but it also meant that she had to be careful with the predators like the one chasing her. The girl reached the clearing, sighing of relief, but she was far from safe. Leaving the bushes and trees behind meant that the creature wouldn t be able to hide, its camouflage rendered useless, but it would also have freedom to move. The birds stopped their chirping, and just the buzzing of mosquitoes in the nearby pond broke the silence, not even her breath could be heard. The predator, a long lizard like being covered in kaleidoscopic feathers stumbled out of the vegetation, its six legs moving in unison, its size almost equal to an Earthly horse. • 15. Questions The Necessity Of Free Will And Its Compatibility... The fatalism framework assumes that human action is necessitated and therefore, it negates free will. Fatalism questions the necessity of free will and its compatibility with divine foreknowledge. Much of medieval philosophy returns to this question, attempting to reconcile these two seemingly conflicting truths. The Law of Non Contradiction is one of logic s most fundamental ideas. It claims that something can not be both true and not true. Under this law, no affirming statement can negate itself. For example, an object cannot be both square and circular. They cannot exist within the same context and so, a square circle is a contradiction. In Chapter 9 of De Interpretatione, Aristotle discusses the problem of whether a sea battle... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whichever is true, is true in the past. So, assuming there will be a sea battle tomorrow, it has always been true that there will be a sea battle tomorrow. And because the past in unalterable, it implies that human action has no ability to make a sea battle not happen tomorrow. Therefore, it is necessarily true that there will be a sea battle tomorrow. Augustine says, in Free Choice of the Will, that divine foreknowledge creates a necessity that is problematic for free will: God has divine foreknowledge of everything in the future; and we sin by the will, not by necessity? For, you say, if God foreknows that someone is going to sin, then it is necessary that he sin. But if it is necessary, the will has no choice about whether to sin; there is an inescapable and fixed necessity. This brings up a significant issue. This argument claims that actions are determined rather than open to human action. If actions occur by necessity, human beings should not be blamed for their actions. This suggests that God is responsible for the actions of man. This also requires that God is responsible for evil. However, he is not the cause of evil. God gives man the ability to will but does not necessitate what he wills. However, humans are still responsible for what they will because the thing that is willed is not of necessity. For example, Augustine in his Confessions, tells the story when he stole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Debate Between Creation And Evolution The debate between creation and evolution has been around for a long time. For much of it, it has presented a choice between the two. Some claim that you either believe in God or evolution, not both. Others, that you have to choose young earth creationism simply because theistic evolution is not a viable option. Still more present young earth creationismas a naive understanding of both the Bible and science. However, since each position has evidence in support of it and against it, it is in no way true that any of them present us with an undeniable position of definite accuracy. Furthermore, the idea that there is only a choice between creation and evolution is false. Indeed, there are more positions than even creationism and theistic... It is simply the case that they each take a different approach and give different amounts of authority to science and a literal interpretation of Genesis. The first position is that of young earth creationism. Additionally, this is what most people mean when referring to creationism. This is primarily due to the fact that the creationists visible in the public eye during the creation evolution debate were most likely to hold young earth creationist views. Additionally, the terms recent earth or recent creation have been used to refer to this same position. What is taking place is something more basic: the departure of an entire generation of lawmakers who have been in control of the legislative branch of government for nearly four decades. For more than 30 years the General Assembly leadership was dominated by a group of Democratic legislators who were first elected around the time that the county unit system was struck down in 1962 and the legislature was drastically changed by reapportionment. Finally, we see the father at the end of the commercial who wants to assist his son when pretending to be Darth Vader. By showing a father who helps his son believe he was successful with using the force, it demonstrates a loving and caring relationship. This might make fathers who watch the commercial want to go out and buy the car to be that loving and caring dad. The advertisement s stylistic choice is effective due to how they tell a story and use supportive rhetorical techniques. First, Volkswagen does this by pulling people in with the rhetorical technique of pathos. By creating a scenario within the advertisement which consumers can relate to, the viewer tends to feel a sense of familiarity and emotional attachment. • 24. The Play “A Midsummer Night’S Dream” By William Shakespeare The play A Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare offers a wonderful contrast in human mentality. Shakespeare provides insight into man s conflict with the rational versus emotional characteristics of human behavior. Athens represents the logical side, with its flourishing government and society. The fairy woods represents the wilder, irrational side where nothing seems to follow any sort of structure. The character of Bottom the weaver is a direct reflection of these two worlds. He brings the rational and irrational elements of the play together in several ways. Nick Bottom is indeed one of Shakespeare s most memorable creations. Here he gives us insight into his own personality and almost seems to mock those in love. When he says let the audience look to their eyes (1.2.20), he is directly touching on one of the themes in the play: the use of one s eyes in love, which according to Bottom means that people do not use their heads when in love and that it is an emotion merely based on superficialities. Whatever the case may be, it is obvious that he is much more of a lover than a tyrant. Bottom proceeds to show however, that one can love and be a tyrant at the same time. When he is transformed into the ass and shares Titania s bower, it shows his marvelous adaptability to adapt immediately to whatever life offers him. His energetic love of life, good nature and eager innocence obtains him this entrance into the other world so different from his own. Perhaps he is not completely incapable of feeling or understanding love. Starting from his position as a rock bottom realist, he can, with the same vigor and joy he brings to whatever he does, respond to this power and believe. The fantastically transformed Bottom, the least likely candidate for the position in the world before his transformation, becomes a participator in the fairy world in the incredible role of being Titania s lover. The implementation of drug testing by companies grew in recent years. American workers have seen a dramatic increase in the use of drug testing in the previous years. Drug testing is implemented to assure safe workplaces for American workers. Drug testing can reduce the company s health care and insurance costs. Even though drug testing has become common in the workplace, there is little research that exists regarding this matter. Overall, drug testing affects the decisions of workers by adopting a zero tolerance policy. Experienced users try to beat these tests by using drug to cancel the tracking of the drug itself. These workers attempt to avoid the detection of drug use for long periods (Borack, 1995). Literature implies that employee drug use in the workplace may create high costs to firms in the form of lower productivity, increased absences, and an increase in workplace accidents. As a response to these costs, employers have implemented a variety of policies and programs to decrease employee drug use. Educational programs and standards such as Zero Tolerance policies, employers have turned to drug testing programs more in the past decades. About 46 percent of American workers report that their employer conducts drug testing, although other sources indicate that 90 percent of Fortune 200 companies use some type of drug testing (Flynn 1999). Throughout a period of enslavement, human beings have again and again treated slavery and racial hierarchy as an act of the norm embedded in human behavior, which they use in order to make a clear distinction between them and us to justify such atrocious and immortal acts. Servant leaders are motivated by the need to serve the followers (Blanchard, 2001; Chanhoo, Kwangseo, Seung Wan, 2015; Crippen, 2004; Grisaffe, VanMeter, Chonko, 2016; Gyeongchun, 2014; Jit, Sharma, Kawatra, 2016; Liden et al., 2014; Parris Peachey, 2013; Rubio Sanchez, Bosco, Melchar, 2013; Russell Stone, 2002; Spears, 2004; Spiro, 2010; Waterman, 2011; Wilson, 1998; Wong Page, 2003). Place emphasis on the development of followers rather than their own gratification (Jit, Sharma, Kawatra, 2016; Liden et al., 2014; Parris Peachey, 2013; Rubio Sanchez, Bosco, Melchar, 2013; Wong Page, 2003). Furthermore, servant leaders feel a moral responsibility to bring success to the organization, the subordinates, the customers and other stakeholders (Jit, Sharma, Kawatra, 2016; Rubio Sanchez, Bosco, Melchar, 2013; Spears, 2004; Spiro, 2010; Waterman, 2011). Overall, Parris and Peachy clearly exemplify that servant leaders are distinguished by both their primary motivation to serve (what they do) and their self construction (who they are), and from this conscious choice of doing and being they aspire to lead (Parris Peachey, 2013, p. 379). Nothing gives me more hope and happiness, then running on floor to hanging on a bar. From the darkness inside comes a light that feels like an eternal flame that can never be extinguished. Nothing can stop me from feelingmore alive. Starting gymnastics has been the best decision I have ever made and has made me the person I am today. With every move, every skill, and every moment, gymnastics makes me feel alive. Ever since I was six, I have been doing gymnastics. I started when I said to my mother I want to do that with my high pitched little kid voice as I watched the gymnasts fly around the bar. • 41. Australian Foreign Policy And Australia s Relations With... Australian foreign policy is characterised by a series of significant issues that are all inter related. This piece will focus on Australia s relationship with the US, Asylum Seeker policy and Australia s relations with Asia. Relationship with the US Australia has had a long and close relationship with the United States. US Australian relations are underpinned by the ANZUS treaty, finalised in 1951. The relationship is underpinned by shared values, culture, social bonds and common strategic interests. However, the partnership has become a problem within Australian foreign policy for a variety of reasons. Firstly, there is concern regarding the responsibilities we have placed upon ourselves as an Ally. Although we are not obligated to join the US in war, we are consistently following them into overseas conflicts that we otherwise have no interest in. As it currently stands, Australiahas fought in numerous wars alongside the United States in the years since the conception of the ANZUS treaty, and we are yet to win one. Australia appears to be under the impression that we are under the military protection of the US, and this is often stated as a reason for maintaining close ties with the global power. This is simply not the case; our partnership does not force either party to come to the aid of the other. The United States will not come to our defence in the case of a conflict unless it is within their own interests. Secondly, our alliance with the US has placed a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. A Modern Day Form Of Slavery Essay Literature Review While DMST is considered to be a modern day form of slavery, history has recorded that the sexual exploitation of children has been practiced in America since its colonization. While slavery was abolished in the 19th century, it did not dissipate completely and it wasn t until the beginning of the 20th century that the issue of child sex trafficking began to receive significant attention. This was in part due to the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) that was passed in 2000 which protected victims of trafficking by enhancing criminal penalties under the law as well as made benefits and services to victims available (TVPA, 2000). Since the act s establishment, the TVPA has been amended 4 times in order to grow with the changing attitudes, policies, and approaches to best combat human trafficking (DeCeoursty, 2016). The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 refueled the United States dedication to sex trafficking by declaring DMST as a threat to national security which transformed the way human trafficking should be approached (DeCeoursty, 2016). The post 911 environment embraced a crime control approach by focusing more on combating organized crime activity instead of the issue of human rights and the recognition of victimization (DeCeoursty, 2016). However, this crime control approach to human trafficking failed to address the underlying structural problems, which is the high demand for the sex trafficking industry. • 45. Stereotyping Stereotypes When we use stereotypes, we are criticizing someone, for example, when we say all police officers are corrupt, all men who aren t into sports are gay or all blonde women are dumb. Stereotyping is a result of incompetence on distorted information accepted as a fact without question. A stereotype is simply a widely held belief that an individual is a member of a certain group based upon characteristics. Stereotyping can be positive, for example, all Blacks are good at sports, all Asians are good at math or French people are romantic. Stereotypes can also help identify how to interact with each other, for example Canadians are exceptionally polite. Either way stereotyping is morally wrong and judgmental. If your group is positively stereotyped in an area, then you can endure a lot more frustration and difficultly before you assume or infer that you don t belong in that domain (Steele, 2010). This paper will focus on the origin of stereotyping, how stereotypes affect judgement and behavior and will explore profiling versus stereotyping. Stereotyping is defined as an oversimplified, usually pejorative, attitude people hold toward those outside one s own experience who are different. They are a result of incomplete or distorted information accepted as fact without question. A stereotypeis simply a widely held belief that an individual is a member of a certain group based on characteristics. Due to the process of overgeneralization within social perception, stereotyping leads to a great deal of inaccuracy in social perception (Chandler, n.d.). ##My stance is## Stereotyping is always morally wrong and judgmental. How you reach your opinion of others makes it morally wrong, when you encounter someone for the first time you should not have a prejudged notion of that person, first impressions should always start from zero. The most ethical place to begin is to acknowledge that you have biases and stereotypes and once your interaction starts then place them accordingly. Stereotyping is a mental shortcut and this isn t always negative although we should be aware that we all harmlessly do it and must always be conscious of it. As humans, we want to associate quickly for instance, tiger, danger, don t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Anabolic Steroids And Its Effects On The Brain Brief History Anabolic steroids are directly related to steroids, and both have similar effects, however anabolic steroids intensify protein production in cells, leading to enlarged muscles, rather steroids contain various hormones including testosterone. Both, however exert the chemical dopamine into the blood stream, negatively effecting the brain driving addiction and abuse. The steps and action foreshadowing steroids can be traced back to 1849, when a German scientist named Arnold Adolph Berthold conducted tests and experiments on Cockerels, concluding that their male testicles contain the necessary factors that make them male. This revelation may not attribute to the direct creation of anabolic steroids, however it casts a light towards understanding anabolic steroids and must not be dismissed. With the cooperation of Berthold s discovery, a German chemist Adolf Butenandt was able to purify and extract testosterone from urine. With the collaboration of a fellow German chemist Leopold Ruziicka, they were able to create a synthetic form of testosterone safe for human use in 1935. Their discovery received international acclaim and they were rewarded the 1939 Nobel Prize for their work in chemistry. The initial intent of steroids was to help treat men who had growth and development deficiencies. When World War II broke out steroids were used to help malnourished soldiers gain weight and increase performance. After the war, steroids were being extensively abused by ... Many smaller communities in the United States are already utilizing telemedicine to great advantage (Burchill, 2010).Although telemedicine is a great way to deliver quality healthcare in a timely fashion, there is also a downside to the procedure as well. Telemedicine will in some way hinder the face to face communication between the doctor and patient that is vital in reducing errors. Most patients have a better understanding of what is expected of them when it is communicated clearly and effectively by their physician. Communication is the process of understanding and having meaning (Du Pre, 2005.) and it is also the process of relaying information between people by the use of words, letters, symbols, or body language (Sallee Forrest, 2005,). In my opinion I feel that telemedicine will decrease the moral as far as the Dr. and Patients are concerned. Although telemedicine may decrease a portion of the healthcare cost by less visits to the doctor, it will lose the value and importance of actually sitting down and talking with your doctor and receiving that one on one face to face time. Most patients are not even in tuned with technology and this can result in many errors and communication issues. What role do you plan to have in the industry? Macbeth is Shakespeare s shortest play, but arguably his darkest and most powerful creation. King James I commissioned Shakespeare to write this play for his amusement sometime around 1606. It deals with an array of themes including revenge, guilt, violence, insanity and also the supernatural. Shakespeare based Macbeth mainly on an Elizabethan report of Scotland s history called Holinshed s Chronicles , written by popular a historian at the time pictured here, but also referred to a few other sources. In fact, the witches bear a striking and obviously intentional resemblance to the fates, female characters who weave the fabric of human lives and then cut the threads to end them. They speak in almost chant like rhyme with paradox and equivocation, Fair is foul and foul is fair (Act 1, Scene 1, Lines 11 12) and Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble (Act 4, Scene 1, Lines 10 11). At the time Macbeth was written, necromancy was feared and witches had developed into a serious and ever present social concern. Bear in mind that those accused of witchcraft 90% of the time were just old, poor, unprotected, single or pet owning women. Nonetheless, witches were perceived as evil, sub human servants of the devil. Shakespeare therefore introduced the witches knowing that they would grip an audience, as anything to do with witchcraft would create fear. • 50. Cystic Fibrosis Analysis To understand the effects that Cystic Fibrosis has, it is important to discuss CFTR synthesis and trafficking. Mutations in the CFTR results in protein misfolding, causing a defect in cellular processing and trafficking that targets the protein for degradation and reduces the quantity of CFTR at the cellsurface [56]. In order for the CFTR to function correctly, then it must be synthesized, folded, and transported to the apical membrane of the cell without problem. The CFTR passes through quality control systems to get rid of misfolded proteins that would not function properly or that could become damaged [16]. It is apparent that only 33% of CFTR folds correctly and is allowed to leave the endoplasmic reticulum[8]. The nucleus is the site... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One system detects defects in the cytosolic parts of the CFTR while the other detects defects within the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. It is apparent that ubiquitylating proteins work with specific factors in order to detect misfolding. For example, Hsp70 detects mutations in the cytosolic regions of the CFTR. It is suspected that Hsp70 keeps the CFTR soluble until the E3 ligase CHIP binds with it. The complex that forms between these two redirects the CFTR to the degradation pathway. Derlin 1 is involved with detecting defects in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane and is involved in the retro translocation of CFTR from the endoplasmic reticulum so that it can be send to the proteasome for degradation [20]. If the CFTR protein is folded correctly within the endoplasmic reticulum, then it is sent to the Golgi apparatus. The coat protein complex II (COPII), which is found within the ER membrane, helps to maintain the correct CFTR structure and location, conformation, and protein protein interactions as this occurs. Final processing for the CFTR is carried out within the Golgi, as the CFTR replaces a mannose enriched side chain with a mature complex oligosaccharide side chain. After this is completed, the CFTR is moved to the apical membrane where it has a half life of 12 to 24 hours. If a CFTR is functioning poorly within the membrane, then it can be recognized by Hsc70 and then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Consequences Of The Thirty Years War The Thirty Years War marked the end of Reformation and was the last major religious war in Europe. Whilst it started as a religious war between the Catholic Habsburg leader and the Protestant Bohemians in the Holy Roman Empire, during its progress it became a European war, where most of the dominant powers got involved. Soon the religious focus shifted and the war became more about power, influence and territories. The consequences of the war and the Treaty of Westphalia were long lasting and complex on Europe s international relations. In order to understand not just the progress of the war, but also the consequences, it is necessary to consider, what has led up to the breakout of the war.
