The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Worker Policies
Around the 1910s, America was in a time of industrialization where there was the development of
factory system and mass production, and the increasing growth rate population. While this
transformation may have provided many benefits to Americans, it also carried negative results. For
instance, The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, located in Manhattan, New York City
, managed by Max
Blanck and Isaac Harris, sold shirtwaists, an immensely popular necessity that every women desired
to have in their closet. Since Blanck and Harris were known for operating the largest firm in
business, they were notorious for taking advantage of the enormous amount of immigrants entering
New York during the early twentieth century, and hiring them in a sweatshopthat consisted of poor
ventilation, overcrowded working environment, and dangerous machinery. (Lyons) In addition,
Not only did Blanck and Harris have a suspicious history of factory fires, they were also well
known for anti worker policies. (Downey) On March 25, 1911, The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory
employees were in jeopardy when the building had caught on fire. During the incident, there
were four elevators with access to the factory floors, however, only one of the elevators was
working and it could only hold twelve people at a time. There were also two stairways but one
was locked from the outside to prevent theft or employees ditching work. While Harris and Blanck
received warning and escaped the building, the workers continued

Essay on Stanford Auditing Case
Allen Stanford was, at one point, a successful entrepreneur whose investment company s accounts
totaled in the billions. The aforementioned keyword is was. As CEO of Stanford Financial
Group, Stanford essentially ran a massive Ponzi scheme; he issued certificates of deposit at an
offshore bank that he controlled and illegally used the investors funds. These CD s were appealing
to investors due to their high returns of nearly twice the average rate of return of investments in
U.S. banks. Investors were led to believe that these CD s had such high returns because they were
being invested in corporate stocks, real estate, hedge funds, and precious metals (BusinessWeek).

BDO failed in its responsibilities to act independently and in the best interests of investors.
According to Rule 101 of the AICPA s Code of Professional Conduct, auditor independence is
impaired if during the time of the engagement, the auditor had or was committed to acquire any

By disregarding guidelines addressing audit evidence for investments in securities, BDO violated

Different Approaches For Managing Information System
8.2 COMBINED DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE: Basically there are two approaches to
manage Information System (IS) Personnel. They are: пѓ Combining the development and
maintenance into one part and is sub divided by functional areas. пѓ Advancement and
Maintenance individually. Combining the development and maintenance of system: In this
approach both development and maintenance are combined to organize Information System
Personnel (ISP). Generally, functional area sub divides an area into teams. Each team is assigned
to a system to complete the requests of new development and maintenance. This approach appears
to be logical as the division between new development and adaptive maintenance is arbitrary. The
advantages in this approach includes: пЃ¬Specialized and specific knowledge of functional areas.
пЃ¬Management of systems is easy as each system is assigned to a team. пЃ¬The system
developers and maintainers are same in this approach. пЃ¬The development and maintenance
continuity is a major advantage to manage the ISP. пЃ¬The experience of maintainers with actual
development increases hence there is a decrease in maintenance expenditure. Besides the
advantages there are some disadvantages also for this approach. The main disadvantage is the
maintenance requests tends to be bottleneck to the development cycle. This is because that
maintenance is process of solving or omission of errors and defects which is considered as urgent
situation. At this point the development stage acts as

The Book Of Numbers 22-24 By Calvin Seerveld Essay
In the book of Numbers 22 24, we get a very odd story. A story of a man, angels, a talking donkey,
curses and more! The author also wants to find out how this can help us understand more of the
Bible and Israel. He does this by going through the passage and giving us different ways of
approaching the text. The author is critiquing the approaches to help the reader understand the
good and the bad of each. The author, Calvin Seerveld gives us a good, in depth study of this
passage. In this paper, I will give a summary of what Seerveld is saying on this passage. Seerveld
starts off his book by giving an overview of what the biblical story is about and then moves on to
the anemones/strange things of this story. There are many strange things which require us to look
deeper in the text. At first, it looks like God changes his mind often and being difficult. There are
other small things that seem odd to the story. There are some issues with the way the character
travels, the elders are mentioned in the beginning of the story, then not heard from again, some
repetitious statements and other things. However, it is important to note the story floated around
orally for many years and there were different variations of the story. It took a long time before
they were all written down into a story. In fact, Seerveld argues the third and fourth oracles were
written before the time of Solomon and his kingdom was divided. The first two oracles were not
composed until the late 7th century

Refinancing Your Student Loans
Refinancing your student loans means that a private lender is essentially buying your Federal
student loans, paying them off, and creating a new loan that it will lend to you on new, original
terms.
The new terms of your refinanced loan will be based off your credit reports, credit score, and other
requirements. The new private loan terms include, among other things, a new interest rate and
potentially a new term (the length of time over which you have to repay your loan).
For example, you could take your Federal student loans that have a 10 year term and refinance
them into one private loan for 20 years.
If you have the option to extend the term of your student loan when you refinance, you should
consider a number of factors before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, I m a trained corporate attorney with student loan debt. If I was unable to extend the
term of my loan from 10 years to 25 years, then I probably wouldn t have been able to switch
career paths to a financial planner because I had to take a significant pay cut to make the move.
Because I was able to extend the term of my loan and make lower monthly payments, I have much
greater job and career flexibility.
When your monthly student loan payment is lower, you have more options because your debt
doesn t play as significant of a role in your monthly expenses.
Example of extending your student loan term
Assume Amy has $45,000 in Federal student loan debt at 6.0% interest rate on a 10 year,
standard repayment plan. Amy decides to refinance her loans to private loans to get a lower
interest rate. Amy and her lender agree to a new loan with a principal balance of $45,000 at a
4.0% interest rate for a period of 25 years. Using a simple amortization calculator, I came up with
the following calculations:
Amy s term: 25 years (2015 2040)
Amy s monthly payments: $237.53
Total repaid: $71,257.97
Amy pays $16,585.60 more in her total amount repaid by extending her term from 10 years to 25
years (see the example below), but her monthly

Unbeknownst to Robert and his allies, eyes were watching from the cliffs. When they cleared
the cliffs they came across what seemed to be a swamp with many rivers cut into the earth like
veins of the planet itself. I believe declared the Doctor we may find a viable sample here. It seems

Oh god, what happened!? asked Aaron. They ran from the river bank in fear and hide behind some
shrubs. What was that thing? whispered Aaron.
From the sail on its back I would say Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, or at least on earth it would be.

Create A Resume
The first thing you should consider when looking for a job is your resume. A resume is a
blueprint that details what you have accomplished with regards to education, experience, skills
acquisition, workplace successes, and progressive responsibility and/or leadership (Patricia and
Sherfield 161). Many people struggle with landing a job because of their resume. In my essay, I
will be providing an outline to how to create a resume. I have collected information from online,
personal references, and the class s textbook; AOT 133 Professional Development. To show a
difference from a well put together resume verse a poorly written resume, I created two resumes;
one prior to learninghow to create a resume and one after learning. When you prepare your resume,
keep your future employer in mind. Include your full name and make sure your contact
information is up to date and accurate so any future employer can contact you if necessary. You
should not include your birthday, gender, or address ( How to Write a Resume ).... Show more

An objective is a short sentence that tells the future employer what type of position you re
looking for and your employment goals ( How to Create Your Resume ). It is okay to use the
words, I, me, or my in your objective, but it s best to avoid them (Patricia and Sherfield 158). An
example of a weak objective is, I want to work as a marketing manager with a major corporation .
A strong objective would be Seeking a marketing position that will utilize my organization talents,
oral communication skills, and expertise with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Prezi, and Facebook in a
competitive, engaging, and high energy environment. (Patricia and Sherfield 164). Clarification is
important, especially when including your past education and job history. The second step in

The Importance Of Rain In New Mexico
I saw a difference in all 4 states, maybe subtle differences but New Mexico was flatter, less rocky.
Rain caught us in New Mexico, huge water drops fell on the windows, I was almost afraid it
would break the glass. I was entranced by the view out my passenger side window. Big gray
clouds hung over us, they were so low I could see the water vapor. For some reason, this
interested me so much. Had they ever seen been that low in Las Vegas? It was cloudy the rest of
the way. We stopped at a rest stop where we overlooked the road and I could see in the distance
the town of Las Cruces. I stood there for a second and just thought about what was to come. There
was some sort of energy in the air, maybe it was just the fact that it had rained but it

Devil s Knot Essay
On May 6, 1993, three eight year old boys were found savagely murdered in West Memphis
Arkansas. The investigation lacks hard evidence and a suspect, and the police automatically turn
their focus on Satanism. Unfortunately, three teenage boys became the prime suspects: Damien
Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley. Because they wore black and listened to hard rock
music, they were outcasts. With nothing but circumstantial evidence mounted upon these teenage
boys, the community lets a Satanic Panic outweigh the facts. All the while, there is more than just
circumstantial evidence that points to one of the victims stepfather, John Mark Byers. He had the
means, motive, and opportunity to commit this heinous crime.
It is very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The absence of blood on the bank and lack of mosquito bites on the boys bodies suggest that they
were murdered at another location and simply dumped at the creek. This leads to the speculation
that the boys were with someone that they trusted at another location when they were killed.
Christopher was the only one of the boys that had defensive wounds. This piece of evidence
implies to two things: first, all of the boys were comfortable with their attacker, and second,
Christopher had possibly been abused by the attacker before and knew what was coming (Steel).
This would lead one to believe that Chris was the target.
The police were convinced that they had found their killers in the three teenagers after hearing
and recording Jessie s so called confession to the crime and his tying Damien and Jason to it as
well. Even though alibis were presented by the boys the police ignored them and went ahead
with the arrests. It is rather obvious, that basing the whole case and investigation on the coerced
confession given by Jessie is a seriously flawed decision on the part of the West Memphis police
and brings the credibility of the department into question. Police discovered a knife in the Byers
household belonging to John Mark Byers. Forensics stated that the type of blade on the knife was
the same type used to cut and mutilate the three young boys; yet the blood found on the knife was
never analyzed. When asked about the knife, Byers stated

Reflective Personal Reflection
It is quite fascinating the shifts our minds can create, how frequently we experience behavioral
changes and how much of an impact theses alterations can have on our lives. To me this is how
reflective psychology is in our development as humans. And for a very long time, my interests
have been drawn into the field of care and mental health. In particular, I have fixated my
attention into the growth and development of children. From a very young age, it has been an
interest of mine to understand the complex behavior certain children possessed. I mean the
smallest of tantrums I saw being displayed by my own siblings to me were quite interesting. I
would encounter the bullying of other children because of lack of understanding of the English
language. While at the same time, I would be so drawn and pleased with those who understood
my struggle and tried to educate me. To me, part of my childhood was certainly an amazing
experience. I mean I lived in a Caribbean country where I felt free to play and enjoy life at any
time. Then I migrated with my parents to the United States and I felt like I was segregated from
my own people because of my language barrier. It is so interesting how much a single move can
in a sense traumatize the brain of a child. Even though I am exceptionally pleased with the
arrangements taken by my parents to move us here, in order to give us a brighter future. I felt very
disconnected and confused as to why I had to encounter such a harsh period, when I was

Brandon Teena s Life and Court Case
Brandon Teena was a twenty one year old transgender man: a person who was born female but
who identifies as a male, who was brutally raped and murdered in 1993. After a few friends
found out he was transgender they raped him, beat him relentlessly and then later shot him at a
friends home for filling a police report. His story brought national attention to transgender people
and is the inspiration for two films and a book. His life was not in vain and he still lives on in his
story and the hearts and minds of many.

The hate crime of Brandon brought national attention to the ideal and possibility that someone
would want to change their gender. For many people, this was their first time even hearing about
trans people and the violence against trans people. After his death, his identity was challenged and
argued even though there are quotes from him saying he felt like a man trapped inside a woman s
body. As Karina Eileraas puts it Transgender violence targets both men and women, but Brandon
Teena s case highlights its particularly brutal effects on FTM transgender individuals. Boys Don t
Cry provides a clear political incentive to integrate feminist, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender
concerns in the analysis of violence against women...Serious risks accompany any attempt to invest
the body with particular truths about gender and sexuality . Brandon was not fully accepted in life
or given the support he needed but he is remembered in death and his story continues to inspire
many people whether trans or not.

Observation On Observation
You can answer the following questions. After observing at different schools and possibly different
grades,
1. Do you still want to become a teacher? Why or why not?
After doing my observations, I still want to become a teacher. Going into this class, initially I
was hesitant and unsure if I wanted to pursue teaching, but after one full day of observing a
kindergarten class I am sure this is what I want to do with my life. Seeing the children so excited
to learn really made me happy, and I want to be able to encourage that excitement in children
myself. I think teaching is a very important job, and thought it is a little scary how much
responsibility the career is, I think I am up to the task. I would love to be able to know I am
helping the world by teaching children and giving them knowledge they can use in life, and
encouraging them to learn academics and about the real world so they can grow up and be
successful adults and citizens. I really love working with children, and I think I would enjoy
teaching them what they need to know.
2. Do you still want to teach the grade you originally chose from the beginning of the semester?
Explain. If you did not have a chosen grade, do you have a better idea? Explain.
I still definitely want to teach elementary school, preferably kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade. I was
also slightly considering high school (my sister teaches high school and keeps trying to convince
me to teach high school as well), but after observing a high school class, I know I for sure want to
stick with elementary school. I think I work very well with children and that I could be more
successful teaching small kids, rather than teenagers. I also prefer to be with one set of kids all day,
rather than 5 or more sets of kids for an hour every day. I think it would be difficult for me to get
used to having too many sets of kids, so one set would be the best for me, and I think I could be
more helpful to the children if I was only with one set of kids all day long. I also like that in
elementary school the teacher is responsible for teaching all subjects and can create lesson plans
so all the subjects relate to each other, which I would love to do. I don t have one subject I prefer
over others, so I

Cultural Difference And Decision Making
Assessment Task 2: Group Talk Assignment
What is cultural difference in decision making and does cultural difference influence decision
making?
In today s quick paced, focused and complex environment, decision making aptitudes are essential
qualities that any management must have. As human being, we are not conceived with impeccable
decision making aptitudes; we learn through skills and experiences that begin our primary school
stages to and keep on adapting through to our expert life. Decision making can be hard and
decision incudes a few clashes or disappointment. Decision making is the process of making a one
choice from number of alternatives and committing to a future course of action. In this
multiculturalism world main question in decision making is cultural difference in an any
organization. And does cultural difference influences decision making.
In an illustrative sense multicultural is essentially a term which depicts the social and ethnic
assorted qualities of contemporary Australia. We are, and will remain, a multicultural society. As an
open approach multiculturalism incorporates government measures intended to react to that
assorted qualities. At present Australia s The Commonwealth Government has distinguished three
measurements of multicultural arrangement.

Iron Curtain Speech Research Paper
The Cold War was the state of tension between democratic nations and the communist Soviet Union.
There were two opposing groups in the group. The United States and their allies formed NATO

The NATO was formed to stop the progression of communism throughout countries and the Warsaw
Pact wanted to take over countries to spread communism. The Cold Warlasted from 1945 to 1992.

Bacon s Induction Method Essay
The purpose of this study is to explore the soundness of Baconian induction method and its
contribution to the modern scientific method. The study seeks to answer the question, Does the
Bacon s idea of induction help shaped the modern scientific method.
Time has proven Bacon wrong because as of today, the modern scientific method seems to bear no
resemblance to his inductive method. Nevertheless, during Bacon s day in the late 16th to early
17th century, Aristotelian philosophy overwhelmed all the other intellectual currents. Aristotle s
Physics is to ask a series of whys and answer it methodically. This is also known as the syllogism.
In order to answer the whys, we seek to find a general statement of the nature of the thing about
which we asked the question, the statement is then taken as the premise of an argument, and derive
as a conclusion. Francis Bacon, as the fifth son of Sir Nicholas Bacon, suggests an entirely new
system of logic, which is based on induction rather than on the syllogism.

Bacon argues that syllogism is useless for scientific experiment because they rely on words that
might be too abstract and poorly defined. Moreover, our senses are limited in the manner that they
can be deceived and receive wrong information. Bacon s opinion on sensory knowledge is truly

A Critical Discourse Analysis Framework Essay
Methodology A critical discourse analysis framework News is manufactured industrially and deeply
influenced by the bureaucratic and economic structure of the media industry, by relations between
the media and other industries, and by relations with authoritative apparatuses and institutions such
as government. It reflects the prevailing values of a society in a particular historical context and
simultaneously shapes the society in return (Fowler, 1991/2013). Although we cannot simply
suggest an explicit causal relation between structurally determined material and symbolic resources
and the actual cultural practices, a pure linguistic analysis may still overlook the external
constraints and the effects of the cultural practices. The embryo of cultural studies finds its roots in
the historical context of a social structure shaped by industrial capitalism and the increasingly
commercialized system of cultural production, distribution, and consumption. To some extent, the
reference to power and struggle, domination and subordinations is the mantra to sustain and
legitimatize the existing cultural studies literature (N. Graham, 1999). While avoiding the notion
that Marxism and cultural studies form immediate affinity, cultural studies still has to establish
itself as a worldly vocation by coping with the tension between the study of the text and its
affiliations with institutions, classes, nations, races, and genders, and etc. (Hall, 1999a). The

Shakespeare s King Lear Appearances
In Shakespeare s King Lear appearances are not always reflective of reality. While in many scenes
throughout the play characters are disguised, their identities concealed behind a physical shroud,
the theme of appearances versus reality runs much deeper, making the lines between love and hate,
foolishness and wisdom, and cruelty and innocence ambiguous to both the characters and the
audience. As the play progresses, a veil of ignorance seems lift, elucidating the truth of each matter
to the characters and to the audience. As the curtain rises, appearances immediately rush in to cloud
the truth. In the very first scene of the play King Learannounces he will divide his Kingdom
amongst his daughters, awarding portions of the land based upon their professions of love unto
him. First to speak is the eldest, Goneril, and what she says seems to Lear an honest statement of
adoration:
Sir, I love you more than word can wield the matter,
Dearer than eyesight, space, and liberty,
Beyond what can be valued, rich or rare,
No less than life, with grace, health, beauty, honor;
As much as child e er loved, or father found;

Essay About Marines
The 1985 to 1995 where America has had three presidents, and we have had many hardships as a
nation. There are some cool events about this decade. Some of the places I found to have some
cool events are America, Japan, and Italy. There is a corporation, I found interesting in the decade,
and that was the Marines. My interviewee Edward, who likes to go by Ed or Eddy, is a 34 year old
man. He is my boss at Albertsons. I picked him to be my interviewee because he has a strong work
ethic, has been a marine, has maintained two jobs all of his career, and he is just a wonderful
person to be around.
America. What a wonderful country. The kids in the 1980 s and 1990 s were just having a field
day with all the new toys and wonderful inventions, we had just started to get into. On a hot

His MOS was a machine gunner. He fought in Afghanistan. After that, he decided to go home.
He wanted to see his family, especially his son and his newborn daughter. All in all, it was a very

Tsar Bomba Research Paper
Tsar bomba, a.k.a. Hydrogen bomb, is the most powerful nuclear weapon ever to be created.
The leading scientists for the soviets Andrei Sakharov, Yakov Borisovich Zel dovich, Yulii
Borisovich Khariton, and Yuri Trutnev are the physicists most credited for its creation. The Tsar
Bomba was first tested in 1961 above Mityushikha Bay; all 50 megatons and 60,000 pounds of it
was dropped 13,000 feet in the air and the power from the tsar bomb was 10 times stronger than all
the explosives used in WWв…Ў combined. If the United States were free to study and work for
innovations to excel our nuclear program and keep us on the brink of the future, we would be
second to none and our world would be much safer. But with the above information questions...

because of the effect they have on a country not only are you killing thousands of people

Mrs. Dalloway Paper
Mrs. Dalloway Paper
Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf, was written in 1925, a time filled with many large changes to
civilization. The book was written and set right after the biggest war human kind can remember
which killed millions of people, during the peak of industrialization which caused the mass
production of items and created thousands of new inventions, while modernist arts and thoughts
were growing and, and when national pride was very large for the citizens of the Allied countries
in World War I. Virginia Woolfdraws on many aspects of these changes in Mrs. Dalloway,
especially on the idea of modernism which can be defined as new thought, art, and culture.
Specifically Woolf focuses on how the new technologies brought about ... Show more content on

This face which so many people believe to be of a famous and important person, causes the
citizens who see it to feel pride for England and its achievements, and to generally feel
nationalistic. Another example in the novel where a modern object causes multiple characters to
become emotional is when Big Ben chimes, here Clarissa is thinking about the effects of the
ringing bells, a particular hush, or solemnity; an indescribably pause; a suspense (4). This shows
that another piece of machinery was capable of evoking emotion from the characters in the book.
Woolf also shows how much more significant nature is in the world of Mrs. Dalloway through all
of the metaphors she uses comparing people to animals and how her characters often think about
nature. In the journal entry, Scissors and Silks, Flowers and Trees, and Geraniums Ruined by the
War : Virginia Woolf s Ecological Critique of Science in Mrs. Dalloway written by Justyna
Kostkowska, Kostkowska argues that, By referring to human experience in natural terms, [Woolf]
reinforces the inseparability of nature and culture, and shows their mutuality (187). This argument
becomes more apparent throughout the book when Woolf compares almost every character to
something in nature as Kostkowska touches on later in her article, An overwhelming

Magnificent Seven Satire
Western and cowboy movies are two of the oldest types of movie genres ever made. People have
long had a fascination with the wild west and its lawlessness and often like to revisit it by
watching these kinds of movies. So many have been made that at times it might feel like nothing
new can be added to these stories and an attempt to do so is just revisiting old hat. The Magnificent
Seven makes an attempt at not only adding to the lineage of westernmovies but also retells a story
of a movie considered by some to be a classic. The Magnificent Seven might not live up to the
original movie in the minds of movie critics and typical western movie fans. To the nontypical
western fan that did not see the original it can still hit all the right notes of action, slight comedy,
and violence to keep their interest. Add to that fact we end up watching a truly diverse group of
misfit cowboy grow together to become heroes for a small western town. The total package is

The Magnificent Seven does its share to keep up that trend. Basically, the movie spends the
whole time building up to the climatic and the epic fight between Chisolm, and Bogue. The
fight does not disappoint in any way, shape or form either. It can feel a tad bit too violent, but it
will keep you on the edge of your seat. Aside from the final fight scene, there are plenty of other
action packed, and violent scenes to keep you interested like appetizers before the big feast. You
could include the early scene where one of Rose Creek is brutally killed by one of Bogue s
henchmen with a tomahawk. It s a scene that sets the tone for the violence that is to come. This
movie isn t as much about the depth of its story as it is about action and straddling the line of too
much violence. It might be best described as one movie critic for Rolling Stone writes It s two
hours of hardcore, shoot em up pow and it s entertaining as hell.

Theme Of Chaos In Lord Of The Flies
The quote, Chaos is merely order waiting to be deciphered, by Jose Saramago, explains the
importance of keeping order in civilization. When order does not exist or is not enforced,
civilization begins to collapse or break down, which causes chaos. When Piggy discovers the
conch in the story, Lord of The Flies, by William Golding, he uses it to establish order on the island,
but when he dies order ceases to exist. The first line in the poem, In A Dark Time, is eerily
similar to the boys situation of order and civility on the island. When Piggy first observed the
conch in the beginning of the story, he decided that they should use that conch to preserve order
in the tribe. Piggy explains to the group, We can use this to call others. Have a meeting. They ll
come when they hear us (16). Piggy is the smart one in the group, hence why he thinks to use the
conch to establish order. In chapter 11, Piggy struggles to make his voice heard over Jack and
Ralph fighting. Piggy tried to emphasize the importance of following the rules in order to get
rescued. At the same time, Roger pushed the rocks which quickly descended the mountainside.
The rocks struck Piggy and killed him and also shattered the conch. When this happened, it
symbolized order being destroyed on the island. The poem reads, In a dark time, the eye begins
to see... (Line 1). The part, In a dark time, signified the chaos after they killed Piggy and
destroyed the conch. Chaos broke out on the island and the dispute between Ralph and Jack
worsened. The boys became more aggressive and had they not been rescued, this would be the
beginning of the end. The other part, the eye begins to see, shows that after Piggy died and the
conch broke, there was no more order on the island. Ralph began to realize that he was now
alone and had to contest with Jack and what seemed to be his uncivilized tribe. Jack and his tribe
came to the realization that they could now hunt Ralph. The poem also relates to the story when
the boys were divided after Piggy s death. The boys had split into two groups, Jack and his tribe
versus Ralph who was left alone, after Piggy s death. As Roethke states, Dark, darker my light, and
darker my desire, (Stanza 3) symbolizes that

Similarities Between The Stranger And Waiting For Godot
In Literature class, we read The Stranger by Albert Camus and Waiting for Godot by Samuel
Beckett. The two stories are both similar and different in many ways. I m comparing and
contrasting these stories because they both have existential themes, but the stories are presented
very differently. In this essay, I ll be comparing and contrasting three similarities and three
differences between The Stranger and Waiting for Godot. Repetition is shown in both pieces of
literature. In The Stranger , Meursault s daily schedule is repeated. He goes to the same
restaurant and orders the same meal every day, which is part of his routine. In Waiting for Godot
, the character s dialogues are frequently repeated. Nothing to be done , is one example of
repetition in dialogue. In the first half dozen pages of the play the phrase is repeated about four
times. (Anonymous, schoolworkhelper.net). Additionally, the days in Waiting for Godot are
probably also repeated. In both pieces of literature, the characters freedom is limited but the
form of restriction is different. In the second part of The Stranger , Meursault s freedom is
(physically) restricted by the law. He lost his freedom because he was ordered to go to jail.
Meursault lost his freedom to live at the end of the story. On the other hand, Vladimir and Estragon
s freedom is also limited because they were waiting for Godot.

Gospel Of Wealth And Poverty Analysis
During the time of World War I, the United States was dealing with a lot of internal problems. At
the time before the war, Darwinism is very prominent. The working class looked to those in
poverty as if they were the scum of the earth. Then there was the gospel of wealth. The gospel of
wealth believed the things that you have is a divine blessing and has favor in the eyes of God

settlement house. Settlement houses were sent up in poor neighborhoods to help with the
progressivism (Roark, Johnson, Cohen, Stage, Hartmann, 2014, p.563). Jane Adams and Lillian

Famous American Informative Speech
Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm. That s what Abraham Lincoln once
said when he was alive. There are 3 reasons about why I believe that we should tear down the
monuments of a famous American. What Abraham meant by his famous quote is that people
should defend the right things instead of the wrong issues. My three reasons why include not
recreating the past, a protest between blacks and whites, and nevertheless, another civil war. To
begin with, one of my reasons why I say that we should tear down the monuments is not to recreate
the past. The reason why I say that is because in the past, many things happen to black peoplesuch
as slavery and they ve been dealing with segregation for a long time. For instance, in
Charlottesville over the past weekend, there was a protest between a group of KKK, neo Nazi,
and white supremacists fighting and chanting you will not replace us. We should tear it down so
people won t be able to think about the past and start to say a fight and say hateful things about
other races. Some of the people in the world don t like people going against one of another and
wish that all the people could come together and make peace. That s one of the reasons as to why I

that, freed African Americans have also decided to join them in the civil war in April 12, 1861 until

The Sniper Literary Analysis
What of revenge? Is it appropriate? If yes, is it only appropriate in some cases? These four
literature selections could help one find their answer. The Sniper is a short story written by
Liam O Flaherty about the civil war in Ireland and the revenge incorporated in it. The Cask of
Amontillado was written by Edgar Allen Poe, who tells the story of a man consumed by
revenge. A Eulogy for Martin Luther King, Jr. describes the want and need for forgiveness and
is given by Robert F. Kennedy. Of Revenge is an essay telling of the glory of remission and
forgiveness from Sir Francis Bacon. It is not appropriate to take revenge because there are better
consequences with forgiveness and revenge does damage to others and yourself. To begin,... Show

This is may be true for some individuals, but the benefits of forgiving are greater. A weight can
lift off one s shoulders when they choose to forgive someone of a debt or wrong doing. They will
not hold a grudge anymore and that dark presence in their life can disappear. Revenge still won t
satisfy justice because it will just continue as a never ending cycle. The one that takes revenge
will only be paid back with a revenge in return. The cycle of grudges and violence will never end
until someone forgives. Whatever reasons people may use to validate revenge, they must face the
truth that forgiveness is always a better

My Best Friends Big Day Essay
My Best Friends Big Day My best friend, Malory, and I have been best friends for twelve years.
Malory was like the sister I never had. We did absolutely everything together; you very rarely
spotted one of us without the other tagging along. Sadly, in March of 2014 my best friend was
stolen from me. The thief s name was Jordan. He practically swept her off her feet and took off
running with her. When you were around them you couple almost feel the love in the room, and
when they looked at each other you could see the sparkle in their eyes. On September 7th, 2015
they were on a trip to Fort Lee Virginia. They were out eating dinner and when dessert came out it
was a slice of cake and a plate with the words Will You Marry Me? . Of course she said yes, but
that was the day I realized I was going to have to give my best friend away to her better half. I
could not believe we were planning a wedding; I could have sworn we were just two little blonde
headed goofballs that swore that boys had cooties. It started to sink in the day she picked out her
wedding dress. I was unable to go with her when she picked it out, but when I received a picture of
her in the dress I cried like a baby. The dress was an off white, floor length lace gown that fit her
like a glove. Not only did I cry because she looked beautiful, but because it was one step closer to
the big day. Shortly after she picked out her gown she texted me asking if I would be her maid of
honor. Even though I pretty much

With a full basement, your foundation walls should be high enough so that you have at least seven
feet, four inches of head space in the finished basement. The finished foundation should be
waterproofed from the footing to the finish grade line. The foundation is poured, sleeves are
installed in the forms before pouring for such things as the water supply and the sewage outlet, the
pipe is placed through the hole and the space between the pipe and the wall is patched. This is the
easiest method used to get a tight, waterproof fit. .
7.) Rough In Plumbing: (2 4 days) Once the foundation is in and backfilled and tamped and
possibly soil treated, the plumber needs to install the sewer line and water pipes that will be under

8.) Flatwork for Basement Floors or Garages: (3 days) The top of the slab should be at least
eight inches above the finish grade. There will be a base for the slab, gravel or crushed stone to

A Stanza From The Statue Of Liberty
A stanza from The Statue of Liberty, represents a meaning that many people overlook. In the last
stanza, the poem says, She was built on Liberty Island, and she stands there still to this day. She
represents friendship, freedom, and the American way (Perro 8). This stanza from the poem is
basically stating the whole meaning of the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty was called
Liberty Enlightening the World and was designed to be an international symbol of liberty, justice,
and democracy. It was the idea of Edouard de Laboulaye, a French liberal. He hoped that by
honoring the achievements of the Americans, he would inspire the French people to create their

The poem states, The statue was given to us by all the good people of France to mark 100 years
since we declared our independence (Perro 3). This shows how the poem rhymes with the words
France and independence. There are many ways to interpret what a symbol or subject means.
Another way to interpret what the Statue of Liberty means is by looking at a basic picture of it.
A good picture to describe the meaning of the Statue of Liberty was taken by Cecile Borkhataria.
This picture was taken on June 29, 2017. This picture is related to a news article that is very
interesting and full of useful information. In the news article, there are two separate photos. The
first photo was taken right after the Statue of Liberty was built. The second photo was taken
recently to show the difference between when it was first built and what it looks like now. The
biggest difference between the two photographs would be the noticeable color change that has
occurred. The statue has undergone an amount of weather and pollution (Borkhataria 4). The
technical reason why this statue turns color is because copper gives up an electron and then
eventually turns into Tenorite. Then Tenorite reacts with sulfuric acid in the atmosphere and water
to form brochantite, a blue green mineral (Borkhataria 20). Due to all of this, the statue has turned
from a shiny copper or bronze look to a dull brown, then transforming to a light bluish green

Harvey Milk Gay Rights
Harvey Milk: one of the first elected openly gay officials in the history of the United States, and
the first to be in California. Milk became one of the most important figures throughout the
history of the gay rights movement, and extremely important. He also gained credit for strong
gay rights movements and passed many ordinances for gay rights within the city while in office.
Since his death, he has been highly regarded as one of the most brave and important political
figures in American History. Barack Obama, when mentioning him, said, His voice stirred the
aspirations of millions of people... and his message of hope hope unashamed, hope unafraid could

Most data driven decisions are made through Analytics here at SJU. For example, I was recently
involved in preparing the schedule for Department of Finance for fall semester and we used data
analytics to do so. We ran a query that gave us a list of all students currently enrolled as Finance
majors/minors. With this information, we could get the number of students and their classification
of what year they were in. This information was then used to get the data about all the courses they
have taken and what more courses they are required to take in the upcoming semester. With that
information in hand, a schedule offering the required courses was prepared and resources were
allocated.
Along with offering the courses that the students are required to take in their upcoming semester,
the data queries that we run also gives us information about what program the students are
enrolled in, example if they are enrolled in undergraduate day division or an evening program,
whether it s a PLS/HDC program or a graduate pharmacy program and any other programs that
the university offers. This data will help in us to know what courses need to be offered during
evening for students who are co horts or enrolled in evening program. This is just one example of
how SJU analyzes its data at one of the department level process. Analytics is being used continually

Long Walk And Freedom By Robert Nelson Mandela
Long Walk to Freedom , released in 1995, is a biographical story about the revolutionary and
former South African President Nelson Mandela. The book narrates how Mandela becomes a
remarkable leader in the construction of a democratic South Africa. It chronicles his early life,
growing up, education and his 27 years in prison before becoming President and working to
rebuild the country s segregated society. Mandela begins his book with a description of his
ancestry and later goes on to talk about his early childhood, which mainly consisted on herding
cattle and practicing a traditional southern South African type of martial art. When Mandela
became of age, his father sent him to school, which was a rare privilege for a child in his village.
Mandela transcended at school and his uncle decided to invest on Nelson s school success by
sending him to a series of exclusive boarding schools.
In the following sections of his biography, Mandela describes his young adulthood and his gradual
metamorphosis into a leader of South Africa s freedom and equality movement. As a young adult,
Nelson moved to Johannesburg and became an active member in the African National Congress
(ANC), an organization dedicated to fight for the rights of black South Africans. Mandela joins the

organization, in which he adopted a leadership role.

Class Differences In Sociological Analysis
Social structures are limitations that affect the lives of individuals and groups in the society.
Social structures such as class, gender and ethnicity are the limitations that society has to cope
with in one way or another (Lawson et al, 2002). Class (upper class, middle class, and poor) is a
the most favoured limitation that influence the lives of individuals and groups. Social classis the key
source of economic and material inequality and is found in all societies (Marron et al, 2011).

Bird Imagery in Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
The works of twentieth century Irish writer James Joyce resound vividly with a unique humanity
and genius. His novel, A Portrait of the
Artist as a Young Man, published in 1916, is a convincing journey through the inner mind and spirit
of Stephen Dedalus. Portrayed with incredible fluency and realism, imagery guides the reader
through the swift current of growth tangible in the juvenile hero. Above all heavy imagery in the
novel is the recurring bird motif. Joyce uses birds to ultimately relate Stephen to the Daedelus myth
of the hawklike man; however, these images also exemplify Stephen s daily experiences, and

Joyce s bird imagery bears in this scene a restraint of Stephen s uniqueness by threatening his self
expression.
As Stephen mentally develops in the progression of the novel, he begins his search for the
freedom and power of his soul, as the great artificer whose name he bore would have done.
Stephen is now at the beach, pondering his new sense of maturity as he grows near to the wild
heart of life . Walking down a rocky slope, he takes notice to a girl alone and still, gazing out to sea
. Stephen watches her, and awed by her likeness of a strange and beautiful sea bird, he realizes she
is the epitome of all that is the wonder of mortal beauty . Painted by
Joyce s radiant imagery of the darkplumaged dove he sees before him, this rationalization is the
basis of Stephen s internal epiphany; she is, toStephen, an envoy from the fair courts of life . This
wholesome bird like girl with long

The Pros And Dangers Of Recognition Advertising
The world is intergraded many different techniques to better market their product such as radio
frequency identification devices and facial recognition software. The ability to track via radio
waves with a small microchip that s placed on an item with the capability of being scanned with
a particular device is a radio frequency identification device or RFID (Ferrell Hartline, 2014).
Researchers believe that facial recognition is just a simple measurement of point across that face
that will compile into a set pattern for an individual (Hecht, 2014). In my opinion, facial
recognition advertising would pose more of an invasion of privacythan the RFID. Facial
recognition can happen in many forms such as security cameras which can be in stores, in home
personal systems, phones, and government cameras are just a few. As far as an invasion of privacy
for facial recognition is not unreasonable in its entirety however in the use of marketingin a store
with cameras and using it for add should be noted before someone shopping (Hudson, 2013).
There is individual that are willing going to buy the new iPhone X when it comes out who has the
facial recognition as its primary selling point; therefore, those individuals are accepting of the idea
of their face being part of the program. Furthermore, those cameras that are used in marketing for
stores and billboards taking pictures and facial recognition without customer s knowledge and
having the potential of their system to get hacked

Autobiography of malcolm x Essay
The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley
We re not Americans. We re Africans who happen to be in America. We were kidnapped and
brought here against our will from Africa. We didn t land on Plymouth Rock that rock landed on
us. (Lord, Thornton, and Bodipo Memba, 1992)
Words like those above would engrave Malcolm X into the minds of Americans from all racial
backgrounds and socio economic classes. Malcolm X was certainly not one to mince words.
America would come to remember him as The Hate That Hate Produced , the title of a 1959 CBS
documentary narrated by Mike Wallace which focused on Malcolm s involvement in what was
perceived as the rise of black racism (Lord, Thornton, and Bodipo Memba, 1992).

His reasoning? The injustices dealt him by white Christians. Leaving the pews of the church he
entered the world of the street hoodlum where he would exist until his arrest and prosecution for
armed robbery at age twenty (Allah, 1995). He recalls the 1946 crime in The Autobiography of
Malcolm X :
quot;I had put a stolen watch into a jewelry shop to replace a broken crystal, quot; he said.
quot; Two days later things fell apart when I went to pick it up. quot; (Allah, 1995, PG).
Malcolm recalls that he was armed when he went into the shop and that an undercover policeman
was waiting in quiet for him. Rather than drawing his gun, Malcolm surrendered it without
incident to the officer. He didn t try to flee or to fight back as he was arrested. He pleaded guilty
to numerous burglaries in the area and was eventually sentenced, along with an accomplice, to six
to eight years in New York s maximum security prison in Boston s Charlestown district (Allah,
1995).
It would be while he was in prison for this crime that he would join the Nation of Islam. With the
nation of Islam Malcolm X would find a new, or perhaps an old, focus in life: the white man. The
next twelve years of his life would be devoted to righting the wrongs that the whites had dealt to the
blacks throughout the history of the United States.

Atmosphere
The term atmosphere is described by Wikipedia as An atmosphere (New Latin atmosphaera, created
in the 17th century from Greek бјЂП„ОјПЊП‚ [atmos] vapor and ПѓП†О±бї–ПЃО± [sphaira]
sphere ) is a layer of gases that may surround a material body of sufficient mass and that is held in
place by the gravity of the body. An atmospheremay be retained for a longer duration, if the gravity
is high and the atmosphere s temperature is low. Some planets consist mainly of various gases, but
only their outer layer is their atmosphere.
Air is mainly composed of nitrogen, oxygen, and argon, which together constitute the major gases
of the atmosphere. The remaining gases are often referred to as trace gases, ... Show more content

It is stratified in temperature, with warmer layers higher up and cooler layers farther down. This is
in contrast to the troposphere near the Earth s surface, which is cooler higher up and warmer farther
down. The border of the troposphere and stratosphere, the tropopause, is marked by where this
inversion begins, which in terms of atmospheric thermodynamics is the equilibrium level. The
stratosphere is situated between about 6 mi and 30 mi altitude above the surface at moderate
latitudes, while at the poles it starts at about 5 mi altitude.
Within this layer, temperature increases as altitude increases; the top of the stratosphere has a
temperature of about 29.6В°F, just slightly below the freezing point of water. The stratosphere is
layered in temperature because ozone here absorbs high energy UVB and UVC energy waves
from the Sun and is broken down into atomic oxygen and diatomic oxygen. Atomic oxygen is
found prevalent in the upper stratosphere due to the bombardment of UV light and the destruction
of both ozone and diatomic oxygen. The mid stratosphere has less UV light passing through it, O
and O2 are able to combine, and is where the majority of natural ozone is produced. It is when
these two forms of oxygen recombine to form ozone that they release the heat found in the
stratosphere. The lower stratosphere receives very low amounts of UVC, thus atomic oxygen is not
found here and ozone is not formed (with heat as the byproduct. This vertical stratification, with

The Pros And Cons Of Gun Shootings
The latest mass shootings in aurora, colorado and newtown connecticut leave us all liberal and
conservative, republican and democrat appalled and disgusted at the carnage now some people
want to place the blame for this horror on things like 30 round magazines or semi automatic
rifles. we want to blame something anything we can control, but what we really want to ban is
violence and murder and insanity and we dont talk about that though because deep in our hearts
each of us knows that violence and murder and insanity are built into the human condition and
likely always will be you know there are 2 kinds of animals in this world, no one watches a
leopard chase down a gazelle and denies that the gazelle has a right to use its hooves and horns
to protect itself from the predator but there are people all around the country who deny that
same right to self defense to other human beings such people seem to think that the way to stop
the leopard is to cut the horns off the gazelle, that by somehow making it easier the predator the
predator will simply go away my friends this is insane. When you make it easier for the predator
you get more predators. So lets start with the so called assault weapons more properly known as
semi automatic rifles, in 2011 the total firearm murders came to 8,583 according to the FBI. Now
during that time the total murders committed by rifles alright, not just semi automatic rifles, were

was based in Rome in the early times.
In the movie, the emperor of Rome was Marcus Aurelius. He was a very victorious general. After
his death he wanted Maximus to take the throne, and he wasn t even his son. Aurelius s son was
very power hungry and wanted to rule. His plan was to rule Rome and take the throne. He wanted
to murder the last ruler Marcus Aurelius and then execute Maximus, which was the new emperor

slavery. From there he was forced into being a gladiator. He was trained by Proximo. Later they

achieved this by making jokes, playing games in the terminals, and offering free alcoholic

their job energetically, treated customers with respect, and make flying on Southwest airlines a
unique experience. People enjoyed the light atmosphere; it would help to reduce the anxiety of
nervous flyers. Southwest was known for its stewardess s in knee high boots and colorful
uniforms. Along side the employees, Southwest s distinctive competence was it s shorter and
cheaper travel time, which beat out all major competitors. Southwest had the lowest cost/low price

affordable. Now, they captured more of the market that otherwise would not be targeted. Creating
millions of new customers that would eventually turn into loyal customers. Southwest was the first
airline to introduce ticketless travel. Customers were able to order tickets online and simply use
their drivers license at the airport to confirm their reservation. This innovative technology led to no
lines at the ticket counter and more on time flights. In addition to the time cutting strategies,
Southwest s whole operating system was even the fastest. They used a point to point system

SNITCHING FOR RICHES: WHISTLEBLOWER BOUNTIES AND THE $96 MILLION

Introduction Bounties have been employed by United States government over the history of our
Nation. As differentiated from rewards, which offer payment for accomplishment of a specific act
such as providing information that leads to the capture of a particular criminal, bounties are
tailored to encourage the services or actions by some class of persons in pursuance of a
governmental purpose. One of the earliest examples in the United States is the grant of bounty land
grants during both the Revolutionary War and Civil War. For the purpose of encouraging longer

The FCA enforces this statute, in part, by allowing a private person, typically an employee or other
agent of the violator with particular knowledge of a violation, to bring suit on behalf of the
government, otherwise known as a qui tam action. This qui tam plaintiff, referred to as a relator, is
entitled to a bounty between 15% and 25% of the settlement amount in the situation where the
government proceeds with the action brought by the relator. In the case where the government
doesn t proceed with the action, the relator is entitled to between 25% and 30% of the settlement
amount.
Traditionally there was a bar that limited a relator from bringing a qui tam action under the FCA
and thus being qualified to receive any whistleblower bounty resulting from the settlement. The bar
was basically two fold. The allegations or transactions underlying the action cannot have been
publicly disclosed, unless the relator was the original source of the information. Prior to amendment
in 2010, this bar required the court to dismiss the action if the allegations had been public disclosed
or the relator was not the original source of the information, which resulted in this becoming the
primary defense in FCA actions. However, with amendment in 2010, the power to dismiss was
effectively shifted from the court to the government with the addition of the language unless
opposed by the Government .

Ronald Reag The President Of The United States
Introduction
Ronald Reagan (1911 2004) was the 40th president of the United States of America from January
20, 1981 to January 20, 1989. He was a Republican and served two terms in office. He is considered
by many people as one of the greatest presidents in American history. Section 1 of this paper
begins by explaining why Reagan is considered a great president by many people, and also gives
some background information on the state of the economy he had inherited. Section 2 reflects on
Reagan s domestic record, in particular three negative economic consequences that resulted from
his policies and occurred during his presidency. Section 3 considers two aspects of Reagan s
foreign policy: the US invasion of Grenada, and the Iran Contra ... Show more content on

There are five main reasons why Reagan is admired by large segments of the American public.
Firstly, he is considered to have been a staunch patriot and a charismatic leader (Spinrad, 1991).
These qualities were needed in a president at the time due to the influence of the Soviet Union and
the threat of communism. It was also important due to Americans being demoralised from the
failure in Vietnam. Secondly, the six months leading up to the end of his second term were
characterised by increased cooperation with the Soviet Union s Mikhail Gorbachev to reform the
union. It eventually resulted in the total collapse of the Soviet Union and Reagan is credited for
assisting in the eradication of the communist threat. The third, and more controversial reason for
Reagan s popularity, is the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project funded by conservative Americans
(Norquist, n.d.). The project aims to instil the legacy of Reagan by lobbying to name buildings,
roads, and landmarks after the president. This boosts the image and prestige of the president in the
eyes of the people, especially for people who did not live during his presidency or do not know
much about him.
The fourth reason for Reagan s popularity is that he is perceived to have drastically improved the
US economy and lives of Americans. One of the ways to understand this is by comparing the
shape of the US economy when he took office to its shape when he left. The US

The Negative Effects Of Local Farms
Food is an important necessity which gives our bodies the nutrients it needs to function
properly. It is a great way of breaking bread with people of various social backgrounds and
developing a stronger connection amongst one another. This allows for differences to be put
aside and bring people closer together. The types of produce we consume is important, rather we
buy our foods locally or from the supermarket. Consumers who purchase produce from local farms
are known as locavores. Buying produce locally may have a positive impact on the local
community; however, it could have a negative toll on the overall factors such as the economy,
natural resourceendowments, and transportation, potentially leading to a global disaster.
Local farms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specific crops are meant to be grown in certain regions, if attempting to grow an outside crop from
its originated region, it would be costly to grow and maintain the crops due to an increase in natural
resources such as fertilizer and acres of land. This would increase the price of produce, making it
quite expensive (Sexton, 2011, p. 3). For example, California grows the majority of the produce
such as strawberries. Unlike the state of Utah, California would not need as much acres of land
to be able to grow strawberries and it would cost less to do so. Compared to most states,
California is capable of making the most of its resources efficiently due to its geography. By
having local farms producing outside crops, it would only sacrifice the advantages California
and other states have in producing particular crops (Meyers, Sexton, 2011, p.1). With the prices
of produce increasing due to the increase in natural resources, this makes it a burden on poor
consumers who won t be able to purchase produce locally and have to go to a supermarket which
best fits their means. Decreasing the distances which it takes for produce to travel from farm to
fork (Meyers, Sexton, 2015, p.1) helps to reduce fuel and save the environment. However,
transportation only takes up a total of 10% or less of the energy used to bring goods to market
(Meyers, Sexton, 2015, p.1). This does not consist of

thus inventing the wonderful recreational area that surrounds Patoka Lake.
Patoka River provided numerous amounts of flooding for the areas surrounding it, including the

Gruel was a great luxury in our home in those days, and I bitterly resented having to share any of
it, even with the baby...I am glad that no one told me then that my older sister Sheyna often
fainted from hunger in school (Hitzeroth 13). Golda and her family lived better than other Jews
due to the fathers skills as a carpenter. For this reason they were granted special permission to live
outside the Pale camps. Racism, police brutality and corruption were rampant and this was one
of the main forces that would drive them to flee their home after the Kishinev Pogrom, a three
day riot against Jews where dozens were killed, hundreds injured and houses and business
looted. Many believed was it was sanctioned by the government. Not having enough money for
the four of them to leave together Golda s father, Mosshe, left for America first in 1903 to look
for work, housing and to save and accumulate enough money to get exit visas for the rest of the
family to leave. Leaving for America was perhaps, for them, the best way to break free from their
ascribed status.
Kendall also states that role expectation is a group s or society s definition of the way that a
specific role ought to be played (576). For Golda, her two sisters and her mother, Blume, this
meant they would have to go to the Jewish ghetto and live as role expectation called for in Pinsk s

Examples Of Groupthink Essay
Introduction
For the purpose of this essay I will define what groupthink is. I will describe some important
symptoms of Groupthink with the aid of examples in business and will recommend some remedies
for of Group Think that a manager can decide to do in their organisation.
What is Groupthink?
Groupthink is a phenomenon that happens in an organisation because often required to work in
groups or teams. Almost all organisations work within groups on certain projects to reach a
decision on ideas and plans. Groupthink requires the group to conform to the same beliefs and
requires cohesiveness at all times. Groupthink occurs when a group makes faulty decisions because
group pressure lead to a deterioration of mental efficiency, reality testing and moral judgement
(Irving Janis).
Example: If the group was doing a project and they were finished and then a printer is broken and
must find an alternative to the situation in question.
There are 8 symptoms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Illusion of unanimity
An example of this symptom would be Aras Attracta in Swinford where they thought they were
doing a good job when carrying out their duties on a daily basis however no one expressed an
opinion what was going on. They all did wrong and as a result Groupthink had horrendous
circumstances. Nobody questioned the carer as she victimised the patients. It is a good example in
my opinion of groupthink in recent times.
5.Direct pressure on dissenters
Members are under pressure not to express arguments against any of the group s views.
Example: When the company are deciding between two potential clients and the majority picks one
and the others need to bite their tongue. If they had said something they would say to them if you
are not with us you are against us.
b) What can a manager do about it?
There are a number of remedies I will list 5 of them and use examples of them.
1.Assign more than one person to attend a meeting in the organisation so they can test how they do

Observation And Analysis Of Hispanic Infant Essay
OBSERVATION AND ANALYSIS OF HISPANIC INFANT OR TODDLER 2
I) Introduction
Tre is the pseudonym the parents chose for the anonymity of this youth. Tres means three in
Spanish but was shortened to Tre because he happens to be the third generation with his father s
name. Tre was born in 2012 into a mixed family, the father is a full blooded Hispanic and the
mother is a Caucasian woman, but Tre definitely takes after his father. Tre now looks very
similar to the pictures that his parents presented of the father when he was the same age. Prior
to this observation research was done into the developmental stage of a three year old and upon
observation Tre seems to fit into the normal progressive state that any child of three would go
through. He s smart, imaginative, creative, not at all shy, and seems to be well mannered, but
maybe a little spoiled. Tre was the first baby born and also the first male born into this family in 14
years. Desi has a little girl born from a prior relationship who is now 5. Lucy also has three girls of
her own from a previous marriage. Lucy is even lucky enough to be a grandmother at 40 years
of age to one child with a second on the way. Desi and Lucy are the parents of Tre and who
where in the room when the observation of Tre took place and they were the caregivers later
interviewed. Lucy is the sibling of a co worker as this was the interviewers first ever contact with

  • 2. The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Worker Policies Around the 1910s, America was in a time of industrialization where there was the development of factory system and mass production, and the increasing growth rate population. While this transformation may have provided many benefits to Americans, it also carried negative results. For instance, The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, located in Manhattan, New York City , managed by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, sold shirtwaists, an immensely popular necessity that every women desired to have in their closet. Since Blanck and Harris were known for operating the largest firm in business, they were notorious for taking advantage of the enormous amount of immigrants entering New York during the early twentieth century, and hiring them in a sweatshopthat consisted of poor ventilation, overcrowded working environment, and dangerous machinery. (Lyons) In addition, Not only did Blanck and Harris have a suspicious history of factory fires, they were also well known for anti worker policies. (Downey) On March 25, 1911, The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory employees were in jeopardy when the building had caught on fire. During the incident, there were four elevators with access to the factory floors, however, only one of the elevators was working and it could only hold twelve people at a time. There were also two stairways but one was locked from the outside to prevent theft or employees ditching work. While Harris and Blanck received warning and escaped the building, the workers continued ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Stanford Auditing Case Allen Stanford was, at one point, a successful entrepreneur whose investment company s accounts totaled in the billions. The aforementioned keyword is was. As CEO of Stanford Financial Group, Stanford essentially ran a massive Ponzi scheme; he issued certificates of deposit at an offshore bank that he controlled and illegally used the investors funds. These CD s were appealing to investors due to their high returns of nearly twice the average rate of return of investments in U.S. banks. Investors were led to believe that these CD s had such high returns because they were being invested in corporate stocks, real estate, hedge funds, and precious metals (BusinessWeek). The SEC eventually uncovered Stanford s fraud in 2008. Stanford was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... BDO failed in its responsibilities to act independently and in the best interests of investors. According to Rule 101 of the AICPA s Code of Professional Conduct, auditor independence is impaired if during the time of the engagement, the auditor had or was committed to acquire any direct or material indirect financial interest in the client. During BDO s audit engagements, BDO also took part in Stanford s Task Force. By participating in the Stanford funded Task Force and assisting in weakening Antiguan banking laws, BDO had an indirect financial interest in Stanford Financial Group, thus violating the independence guideline. By disregarding guidelines addressing audit evidence for investments in securities, BDO violated PCAOB s Section 332. • 4. Different Approaches For Managing Information System 8.2 COMBINED DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE: Basically there are two approaches to manage Information System (IS) Personnel. They are: пѓ Combining the development and maintenance into one part and is sub divided by functional areas. пѓ Advancement and Maintenance individually. Combining the development and maintenance of system: In this approach both development and maintenance are combined to organize Information System Personnel (ISP). Generally, functional area sub divides an area into teams. Each team is assigned to a system to complete the requests of new development and maintenance. This approach appears to be logical as the division between new development and adaptive maintenance is arbitrary. The advantages in this approach includes: пЃ¬Specialized and specific knowledge of functional areas. пЃ¬Management of systems is easy as each system is assigned to a team. пЃ¬The system developers and maintainers are same in this approach. пЃ¬The development and maintenance continuity is a major advantage to manage the ISP. пЃ¬The experience of maintainers with actual development increases hence there is a decrease in maintenance expenditure. Besides the advantages there are some disadvantages also for this approach. The main disadvantage is the maintenance requests tends to be bottleneck to the development cycle. This is because that maintenance is process of solving or omission of errors and defects which is considered as urgent situation. At this point the development stage acts as ... • 5. The Book Of Numbers 22-24 By Calvin Seerveld Essay In the book of Numbers 22 24, we get a very odd story. A story of a man, angels, a talking donkey, curses and more! The author also wants to find out how this can help us understand more of the Bible and Israel. He does this by going through the passage and giving us different ways of approaching the text. The author is critiquing the approaches to help the reader understand the good and the bad of each. The author, Calvin Seerveld gives us a good, in depth study of this passage. In this paper, I will give a summary of what Seerveld is saying on this passage. Seerveld starts off his book by giving an overview of what the biblical story is about and then moves on to the anemones/strange things of this story. There are many strange things which require us to look deeper in the text. At first, it looks like God changes his mind often and being difficult. There are other small things that seem odd to the story. There are some issues with the way the character travels, the elders are mentioned in the beginning of the story, then not heard from again, some repetitious statements and other things. However, it is important to note the story floated around orally for many years and there were different variations of the story. It took a long time before they were all written down into a story. In fact, Seerveld argues the third and fourth oracles were written before the time of Solomon and his kingdom was divided. The first two oracles were not composed until the late 7th century ... • 6. Refinancing Your Student Loans Refinancing your student loans means that a private lender is essentially buying your Federal student loans, paying them off, and creating a new loan that it will lend to you on new, original terms. The new terms of your refinanced loan will be based off your credit reports, credit score, and other requirements. The new private loan terms include, among other things, a new interest rate and potentially a new term (the length of time over which you have to repay your loan). For example, you could take your Federal student loans that have a 10 year term and refinance them into one private loan for 20 years. If you have the option to extend the term of your student loan when you refinance, you should consider a number of factors before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, I m a trained corporate attorney with student loan debt. If I was unable to extend the term of my loan from 10 years to 25 years, then I probably wouldn t have been able to switch career paths to a financial planner because I had to take a significant pay cut to make the move. Because I was able to extend the term of my loan and make lower monthly payments, I have much greater job and career flexibility. When your monthly student loan payment is lower, you have more options because your debt doesn t play as significant of a role in your monthly expenses. Example of extending your student loan term Assume Amy has $45,000 in Federal student loan debt at 6.0% interest rate on a 10 year, standard repayment plan. Amy decides to refinance her loans to private loans to get a lower interest rate. Amy and her lender agree to a new loan with a principal balance of $45,000 at a 4.0% interest rate for a period of 25 years. Using a simple amortization calculator, I came up with the following calculations: Amy s term: 25 years (2015 2040) Amy s monthly payments: $237.53 Total repaid: $71,257.97 Amy pays $16,585.60 more in her total amount repaid by extending her term from 10 years to 25 years (see the example below), but her monthly ... Unbeknownst to Robert and his allies, eyes were watching from the cliffs. • 8. Create A Resume The first thing you should consider when looking for a job is your resume. A resume is a blueprint that details what you have accomplished with regards to education, experience, skills acquisition, workplace successes, and progressive responsibility and/or leadership (Patricia and Sherfield 161). Many people struggle with landing a job because of their resume. In my essay, I will be providing an outline to how to create a resume. I have collected information from online, personal references, and the class s textbook; AOT 133 Professional Development. To show a difference from a well put together resume verse a poorly written resume, I created two resumes; one prior to learninghow to create a resume and one after learning. When you prepare your resume, keep your future employer in mind. Include your full name and make sure your contact information is up to date and accurate so any future employer can contact you if necessary. An objective is a short sentence that tells the future employer what type of position you re looking for and your employment goals ( How to Create Your Resume ). An example of a weak objective is, I want to work as a marketing manager with a major corporation . • 9. The Importance Of Rain In New Mexico I saw a difference in all 4 states, maybe subtle differences but New Mexico was flatter, less rocky. Rain caught us in New Mexico, huge water drops fell on the windows, I was almost afraid it would break the glass. I was entranced by the view out my passenger side window. Big gray clouds hung over us, they were so low I could see the water vapor. For some reason, this interested me so much. Had they ever seen been that low in Las Vegas? It was cloudy the rest of the way. We stopped at a rest stop where we overlooked the road and I could see in the distance the town of Las Cruces. I stood there for a second and just thought about what was to come. There was some sort of energy in the air, maybe it was just the fact that it had rained but it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Devil s Knot Essay On May 6, 1993, three eight year old boys were found savagely murdered in West Memphis Arkansas. The investigation lacks hard evidence and a suspect, and the police automatically turn their focus on Satanism. Unfortunately, three teenage boys became the prime suspects: Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley. Because they wore black and listened to hard rock music, they were outcasts. With nothing but circumstantial evidence mounted upon these teenage boys, the community lets a Satanic Panic outweigh the facts. All the while, there is more than just circumstantial evidence that points to one of the victims stepfather, John Mark Byers. He had the means, motive, and opportunity to commit this heinous crime. It is very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The absence of blood on the bank and lack of mosquito bites on the boys bodies suggest that they were murdered at another location and simply dumped at the creek. This leads to the speculation that the boys were with someone that they trusted at another location when they were killed. Christopher was the only one of the boys that had defensive wounds. This piece of evidence implies to two things: first, all of the boys were comfortable with their attacker, and second, Christopher had possibly been abused by the attacker before and knew what was coming (Steel). This would lead one to believe that Chris was the target. The police were convinced that they had found their killers in the three teenagers after hearing and recording Jessie s so called confession to the crime and his tying Damien and Jason to it as well. Even though alibis were presented by the boys the police ignored them and went ahead with the arrests. It is rather obvious, that basing the whole case and investigation on the coerced confession given by Jessie is a seriously flawed decision on the part of the West Memphis police and brings the credibility of the department into question. Police discovered a knife in the Byers household belonging to John Mark Byers. Forensics stated that the type of blade on the knife was the same type used to cut and mutilate the three young boys; yet the blood found on the knife was never analyzed. Reflective Personal Reflection It is quite fascinating the shifts our minds can create, how frequently we experience behavioral changes and how much of an impact theses alterations can have on our lives. To me this is how reflective psychology is in our development as humans. And for a very long time, my interests have been drawn into the field of care and mental health. In particular, I have fixated my attention into the growth and development of children. From a very young age, it has been an interest of mine to understand the complex behavior certain children possessed. I mean the smallest of tantrums I saw being displayed by my own siblings to me were quite interesting. I would encounter the bullying of other children because of lack of understanding of the English language. While at the same time, I would be so drawn and pleased with those who understood my struggle and tried to educate me. To me, part of my childhood was certainly an amazing experience. I mean I lived in a Caribbean country where I felt free to play and enjoy life at any time. Then I migrated with my parents to the United States and I felt like I was segregated from my own people because of my language barrier. It is so interesting how much a single move can in a sense traumatize the brain of a child. Even though I am exceptionally pleased with the arrangements taken by my parents to move us here, in order to give us a brighter future. I felt very disconnected and confused as to why I had to encounter such a harsh period, when I was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Observation On Observation You can answer the following questions. After observing at different schools and possibly different grades, 1. Do you still want to become a teacher? Why or why not? After doing my observations, I still want to become a teacher. Going into this class, initially I was hesitant and unsure if I wanted to pursue teaching, but after one full day of observing a kindergarten class I am sure this is what I want to do with my life. Seeing the children so excited to learn really made me happy, and I want to be able to encourage that excitement in children myself. I think teaching is a very important job, and thought it is a little scary how much responsibility the career is, I think I am up to the task. I would love to be able to know I am helping the world by teaching children and giving them knowledge they can use in life, and encouraging them to learn academics and about the real world so they can grow up and be successful adults and citizens. I really love working with children, and I think I would enjoy teaching them what they need to know. 2. Do you still want to teach the grade you originally chose from the beginning of the semester? Explain. If you did not have a chosen grade, do you have a better idea? Explain. I still definitely want to teach elementary school, preferably kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade. I was also slightly considering high school (my sister teaches high school and keeps trying to convince me to teach high school as well), but after observing a high school class, I know I for sure want to stick with elementary school. I think I work very well with children and that I could be more successful teaching small kids, rather than teenagers. I also prefer to be with one set of kids all day, rather than 5 or more sets of kids for an hour every day. I think it would be difficult for me to get used to having too many sets of kids, so one set would be the best for me, and I think I could be more helpful to the children if I was only with one set of kids all day long. I also like that in elementary school the teacher is responsible for teaching all subjects and can create lesson plans so all the subjects relate to each other, which I would love to do. • 18. Bacon s Induction Method Essay The purpose of this study is to explore the soundness of Baconian induction method and its contribution to the modern scientific method. The study seeks to answer the question, Does the Bacon s idea of induction help shaped the modern scientific method. Time has proven Bacon wrong because as of today, the modern scientific method seems to bear no resemblance to his inductive method. Nevertheless, during Bacon s day in the late 16th to early 17th century, Aristotelian philosophy overwhelmed all the other intellectual currents. Aristotle s Physics is to ask a series of whys and answer it methodically. This is also known as the syllogism. In order to answer the whys, we seek to find a general statement of the nature of the thing about which we asked the question, the statement is then taken as the premise of an argument, and derive as a conclusion. Francis Bacon, as the fifth son of Sir Nicholas Bacon, suggests an entirely new system of logic, which is based on induction rather than on the syllogism. • 19. A Critical Discourse Analysis Framework Essay Methodology A critical discourse analysis framework News is manufactured industrially and deeply influenced by the bureaucratic and economic structure of the media industry, by relations between the media and other industries, and by relations with authoritative apparatuses and institutions such as government. It reflects the prevailing values of a society in a particular historical context and simultaneously shapes the society in return (Fowler, 1991/2013). Although we cannot simply suggest an explicit causal relation between structurally determined material and symbolic resources and the actual cultural practices, a pure linguistic analysis may still overlook the external constraints and the effects of the cultural practices. The embryo of cultural studies finds its roots in the historical context of a social structure shaped by industrial capitalism and the increasingly commercialized system of cultural production, distribution, and consumption. To some extent, the reference to power and struggle, domination and subordinations is the mantra to sustain and legitimatize the existing cultural studies literature (N. Graham, 1999). While avoiding the notion that Marxism and cultural studies form immediate affinity, cultural studies still has to establish itself as a worldly vocation by coping with the tension between the study of the text and its affiliations with institutions, classes, nations, races, and genders, and etc. (Hall, 1999a). While in many scenes throughout the play characters are disguised, their identities concealed behind a physical shroud, the theme of appearances versus reality runs much deeper, making the lines between love and hate, foolishness and wisdom, and cruelty and innocence ambiguous to both the characters and the audience. As the play progresses, a veil of ignorance seems lift, elucidating the truth of each matter to the characters and to the audience. The Magnificent Seven makes an attempt at not only adding to the lineage of westernmovies but also retells a story of a movie considered by some to be a classic. The Magnificent Seven might not live up to the original movie in the minds of movie critics and typical western movie fans. To the nontypical western fan that did not see the original it can still hit all the right notes of action, slight comedy, and violence to keep their interest. • 26. Theme Of Chaos In Lord Of The Flies The quote, Chaos is merely order waiting to be deciphered, by Jose Saramago, explains the importance of keeping order in civilization. When order does not exist or is not enforced, civilization begins to collapse or break down, which causes chaos. When Piggy discovers the conch in the story, Lord of The Flies, by William Golding, he uses it to establish order on the island, but when he dies order ceases to exist. The first line in the poem, In A Dark Time, is eerily similar to the boys situation of order and civility on the island. When Piggy first observed the conch in the beginning of the story, he decided that they should use that conch to preserve order in the tribe. Piggy explains to the group, We can use this to call others. Have a meeting. They ll come when they hear us (16). Piggy is the smart one in the group, hence why he thinks to use the conch to establish order. In chapter 11, Piggy struggles to make his voice heard over Jack and Ralph fighting. Piggy tried to emphasize the importance of following the rules in order to get rescued. At the same time, Roger pushed the rocks which quickly descended the mountainside. The rocks struck Piggy and killed him and also shattered the conch. When this happened, it symbolized order being destroyed on the island. The poem reads, In a dark time, the eye begins to see... (Line 1). The part, In a dark time, signified the chaos after they killed Piggy and destroyed the conch. Chaos broke out on the island and the dispute between Ralph and Jack worsened. The boys became more aggressive and had they not been rescued, this would be the beginning of the end. The other part, the eye begins to see, shows that after Piggy died and the conch broke, there was no more order on the island. Ralph began to realize that he was now alone and had to contest with Jack and what seemed to be his uncivilized tribe. Jack and his tribe came to the realization that they could now hunt Ralph. The poem also relates to the story when the boys were divided after Piggy s death. The boys had split into two groups, Jack and his tribe versus Ralph who was left alone, after Piggy s death. In this essay, I ll be comparing and contrasting three similarities and three differences between The Stranger and Waiting for Godot. Repetition is shown in both pieces of literature. In The Stranger , Meursault s daily schedule is repeated. He goes to the same restaurant and orders the same meal every day, which is part of his routine. In the last stanza, the poem says, She was built on Liberty Island, and she stands there still to this day. She represents friendship, freedom, and the American way (Perro 8). This stanza from the poem is basically stating the whole meaning of the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty was called Liberty Enlightening the World and was designed to be an international symbol of liberty, justice, and democracy. It was the idea of Edouard de Laboulaye, a French liberal. He hoped that by honoring the achievements of the Americans, he would inspire the French people to create their own democracy (Borkhataria 5). In today s society, we have many ways to... Another way to interpret what the Statue of Liberty means is by looking at a basic picture of it. A good picture to describe the meaning of the Statue of Liberty was taken by Cecile Borkhataria. This picture was taken on June 29, 2017. This picture is related to a news article that is very interesting and full of useful information. In the news article, there are two separate photos. The first photo was taken right after the Statue of Liberty was built. The second photo was taken recently to show the difference between when it was first built and what it looks like now. The biggest difference between the two photographs would be the noticeable color change that has occurred. The statue has undergone an amount of weather and pollution (Borkhataria 4). The technical reason why this statue turns color is because copper gives up an electron and then eventually turns into Tenorite. Then Tenorite reacts with sulfuric acid in the atmosphere and water to form brochantite, a blue green mineral (Borkhataria 20). Due to all of this, the statue has turned from a shiny copper or bronze look to a dull brown, then transforming to a light bluish green ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Milk became one of the most important figures throughout the history of the gay rights movement, and extremely important. He also gained credit for strong gay rights movements and passed many ordinances for gay rights within the city while in office. Since his death, he has been highly regarded as one of the most brave and important political figures in American History. Barack Obama, when mentioning him, said, His voice stirred the aspirations of millions of people... and his message of hope hope unashamed, hope unafraid could never be silence. These words perfectly describe Milk s unflinching courage when it came to his activism. Harvey Milk s activism was most likely birthed in 1951, in which he was dishonorably discharged from the Navy for his open homosexuality. This was one of many injustices pinned against not only Milk, but nearly every other openly gay citizen of the United States. It seemed to Milk, in this point in time he had only two choices. In his own words, he said I finally reached the point where I knew I had to become involved or shut up . We ran a query that gave us a list of all students currently enrolled as Finance majors/minors. With this information, we could get the number of students and their classification of what year they were in. This information was then used to get the data about all the courses they have taken and what more courses they are required to take in the upcoming semester. With that information in hand, a schedule offering the required courses was prepared and resources were allocated. • 36. Long Walk And Freedom By Robert Nelson Mandela Long Walk to Freedom , released in 1995, is a biographical story about the revolutionary and former South African President Nelson Mandela. The book narrates how Mandela becomes a remarkable leader in the construction of a democratic South Africa. It chronicles his early life, growing up, education and his 27 years in prison before becoming President and working to rebuild the country s segregated society. Mandela begins his book with a description of his ancestry and later goes on to talk about his early childhood, which mainly consisted on herding cattle and practicing a traditional southern South African type of martial art. When Mandela became of age, his father sent him to school, which was a rare privilege for a child in his village. Mandela transcended at school and his uncle decided to invest on Nelson s school success by sending him to a series of exclusive boarding schools. In the following sections of his biography, Mandela describes his young adulthood and his gradual metamorphosis into a leader of South Africa s freedom and equality movement. Portrayed with incredible fluency and realism, imagery guides the reader through the swift current of growth tangible in the juvenile hero. The Pros And Dangers Of Recognition Advertising The world is intergraded many different techniques to better market their product such as radio frequency identification devices and facial recognition software. The ability to track via radio waves with a small microchip that s placed on an item with the capability of being scanned with a particular device is a radio frequency identification device or RFID (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). Researchers believe that facial recognition is just a simple measurement of point across that face that will compile into a set pattern for an individual (Hecht, 2014). In my opinion, facial recognition advertising would pose more of an invasion of privacythan the RFID. Facial recognition can happen in many forms such as security cameras which can be in stores, in home personal systems, phones, and government cameras are just a few. As far as an invasion of privacy for facial recognition is not unreasonable in its entirety however in the use of marketingin a store with cameras and using it for add should be noted before someone shopping (Hudson, 2013). There is individual that are willing going to buy the new iPhone X when it comes out who has the facial recognition as its primary selling point; therefore, those individuals are accepting of the idea of their face being part of the program. The stratosphere is situated between about 6 mi and 30 mi altitude above the surface at moderate latitudes, while at the poles it starts at about 5 mi altitude. Within this layer, temperature increases as altitude increases; the top of the stratosphere has a temperature of about 29.6В°F, just slightly below the freezing point of water. The stratosphere is layered in temperature because ozone here absorbs high energy UVB and UVC energy waves from the Sun and is broken down into atomic oxygen and diatomic oxygen. Atomic oxygen is found prevalent in the upper stratosphere due to the bombardment of UV light and the destruction of both ozone and diatomic oxygen. The mid stratosphere has less UV light passing through it, O and O2 are able to combine, and is where the majority of natural ozone is produced. It is when these two forms of oxygen recombine to form ozone that they release the heat found in the stratosphere. In the case where the government doesn t proceed with the action, the relator is entitled to between 25% and 30% of the settlement amount. Traditionally there was a bar that limited a relator from bringing a qui tam action under the FCA and thus being qualified to receive any whistleblower bounty resulting from the settlement. The bar was basically two fold. The allegations or transactions underlying the action cannot have been publicly disclosed, unless the relator was the original source of the information. Prior to amendment in 2010, this bar required the court to dismiss the action if the allegations had been public disclosed or the relator was not the original source of the information, which resulted in this becoming the primary defense in FCA actions. These qualities were needed in a president at the time due to the influence of the Soviet Union and the threat of communism. It was also important due to Americans being demoralised from the failure in Vietnam. Secondly, the six months leading up to the end of his second term were characterised by increased cooperation with the Soviet Union s Mikhail Gorbachev to reform the union. It eventually resulted in the total collapse of the Soviet Union and Reagan is credited for assisting in the eradication of the communist threat. The third, and more controversial reason for Reagan s popularity, is the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project funded by conservative Americans (Norquist, n.d.). The project aims to instil the legacy of Reagan by lobbying to name buildings, roads, and landmarks after the president. This boosts the image and prestige of the president in the eyes of the people, especially for people who did not live during his presidency or do not know much about him. Specific crops are meant to be grown in certain regions, if attempting to grow an outside crop from its originated region, it would be costly to grow and maintain the crops due to an increase in natural resources such as fertilizer and acres of land. This would increase the price of produce, making it quite expensive (Sexton, 2011, p. 3). For example, California grows the majority of the produce such as strawberries. Unlike the state of Utah, California would not need as much acres of land to be able to grow strawberries and it would cost less to do so. Compared to most states, California is capable of making the most of its resources efficiently due to its geography. By having local farms producing outside crops, it would only sacrifice the advantages California and other states have in producing particular crops (Meyers, Sexton, 2011, p.1). With the prices of produce increasing due to the increase in natural resources, this makes it a burden on poor consumers who won t be able to purchase produce locally and have to go to a supermarket which best fits their means. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as well as the state of Indiana worked together through the FloodControl Act to create the reservoir, thus inventing the wonderful recreational area that surrounds Patoka Lake. Patoka River provided numerous amounts of flooding for the areas surrounding it, including the town of Jasper, Indiana. According to Michael Steffen, The Patoka river would flood every spring before Patoka Lake was built. Some years it was worse than others, but every year the south part of town ... Making Patoka Lake the 2nd largest operating reservoir in the state of Indiana, the people who worked for the act are responsible for the flooding of Patoka, and the construction of the reservoir. (Source 19), they are responsible for operating, and maintaining any resource development project (Public 1). Originating prices are $10,000,000 or more during these projects (Public 2), however, the Government helps with some of the relocation costs (Sargent and Wallace 10). While the members of the Flood Control Act of 1965 made the construction of the reservoir possible, this process was completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) (Ingle ... • 52. Golda Meir Reached for the Stars Essay Have you ever heard of Golda Meir? If you have then you know why her name and story is recorded on the shelves of time. For me, I have only just learned of this remarkable person as a result of my returning to community college and being tasked with a paper on a woman in history. The analysis of Golda Meir is an enriching experience, and raises questions and thoughts that cross many boundaries of geographic location and time about ethnic reunification, the recreation of a nation, and a perfect platform to see a mired of key words in this chapter s sociology list: ascribed status, role expectation, role exit, role conflict, and achieved status. Meir s story turns these words into real world examples and finally leaves the reader, as it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gruel was a great luxury in our home in those days, and I bitterly resented having to share any of it, even with the baby...I am glad that no one told me then that my older sister Sheyna often fainted from hunger in school (Hitzeroth 13). Golda and her family lived better than other Jews due to the fathers skills as a carpenter. For this reason they were granted special permission to live outside the Pale camps. Racism, police brutality and corruption were rampant and this was one of the main forces that would drive them to flee their home after the Kishinev Pogrom, a three day riot against Jews where dozens were killed, hundreds injured and houses and business looted. Many believed was it was sanctioned by the government. Not having enough money for the four of them to leave together Golda s father, Mosshe, left for America first in 1903 to look for work, housing and to save and accumulate enough money to get exit visas for the rest of the family to leave. Leaving for America was perhaps, for them, the best way to break free from their ascribed status. Kendall also states that role expectation is a group s or society s definition of the way that a specific role ought to be played (576). For Golda, her two sisters and her mother, Blume, this meant they would have to go to the Jewish ghetto and live as role expectation called for in Pinsk s Pale camp with Blume s parents (Hitzeroth). Life here would shape Golda into becoming a world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Examples Of Groupthink Essay Introduction For the purpose of this essay I will define what groupthink is. I will describe some important symptoms of Groupthink with the aid of examples in business and will recommend some remedies for of Group Think that a manager can decide to do in their organisation. What is Groupthink? Groupthink is a phenomenon that happens in an organisation because often required to work in groups or teams. Almost all organisations work within groups on certain projects to reach a decision on ideas and plans. Groupthink requires the group to conform to the same beliefs and requires cohesiveness at all times. Groupthink occurs when a group makes faulty decisions because group pressure lead to a deterioration of mental efficiency, reality testing and moral judgement (Irving Janis). Example: If the group was doing a project and they were finished and then a printer is broken and must find an alternative to the situation in question. There are 8 symptoms of ... Illusion of unanimity An example of this symptom would be Aras Attracta in Swinford where they thought they were doing a good job when carrying out their duties on a daily basis however no one expressed an opinion what was going on. They all did wrong and as a result Groupthink had horrendous circumstances. Nobody questioned the carer as she victimised the patients. It is a good example in my opinion of groupthink in recent times. 5.Direct pressure on dissenters Members are under pressure not to express arguments against any of the group s views. Example: When the company are deciding between two potential clients and the majority picks one and the others need to bite their tongue. If they had said something they would say to them if you are not with us you are against us. b) What can a manager do about it? There are a number of remedies I will list 5 of them and use examples of them. 1.Assign more than one person to attend a meeting in the organisation so they can test how they do their work ... • 54. Observation And Analysis Of Hispanic Infant Essay OBSERVATION AND ANALYSIS OF HISPANIC INFANT OR TODDLER 2 I) Introduction Tre is the pseudonym the parents chose for the anonymity of this youth. Tres means three in Spanish but was shortened to Tre because he happens to be the third generation with his father s name. Tre was born in 2012 into a mixed family, the father is a full blooded Hispanic and the mother is a Caucasian woman, but Tre definitely takes after his father. Tre now looks very similar to the pictures that his parents presented of the father when he was the same age. Prior to this observation research was done into the developmental stage of a three year old and upon observation Tre seems to fit into the normal progressive state that any child of three would go through. He s smart, imaginative, creative, not at all shy, and seems to be well mannered, but maybe a little spoiled. Tre was the first baby born and also the first male born into this family in 14 years. Desi has a little girl born from a prior relationship who is now 5. Lucy also has three girls of her own from a previous marriage. Lucy is even lucky enough to be a grandmother at 40 years of age to one child with a second on the way. Desi and Lucy are the parents of Tre and who where in the room when the observation of Tre took place and they were the caregivers later interviewed. Lucy is the sibling of a co worker as this was the interviewers first ever contact with the couple; the co worker accompanied the interviewer to make things a little more ...
